Big Announcement: Surmount, the game I've been working on for the past 3 years with my friend Jasper, finally has a release date!
It's coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on May 9th, 2024!
You can wishlist the game on Steam to be reminded about the release! Or try the demo, while it's still up. ;- )

So about the Next Fest
I played a little bit of Surmount, as it’s a game I’ve been excited about ever since I found out it existed. I love climbing games, and this one in specific has a similar shoulder buttons = grips mechanic to what’s seen in Donkey Kong King of Swing and Jungle Climber.
Tumblr media
they’re still very different games though, this didn’t feel like a copy of anything. it’s genuinely just a nice climbing game that happens to take those into consideration (I assume!)
I like it! though in my 30 minutes of game I have to confess it is a little difficult. your character doesn’t spin automatically, you have to do it yourself, which means you have to spin the analog stick and time your jumps... it’s probably something you get used to. also interesting how apparently the levels are randomly generated...

Surmount a unique new action roguelike to get a port
Tumblr media
Surmount mountain climbing adventure game is coming to Linux, but has a Mac and Windows PC Demo. According to further details from developer Jasper Oprel and Indiana-Jonas. Due to make it's way onto Steam this year. Recently, during the Wholesome Games Direct event, developers Jasper Oprel and Indiana-Jonas announced Surmount. They're releasing a demo for their game now on Steam. Ahead of the Steam Next Fest taking place June 19th to 26th. And it's both hilarious and ingenious. Native support is actually in the plans, says the email reply:
Linux support is definitely something I want to do later down the line, probably sometime after launch. But I do want to release on Linux, mostly because I'm such a fan of using GNU Linux myself and have it running on a bunch of laptops and smaller server things.
While this is good news for the Unity 3D game. However, there's a slight hitch. The anticipated native build for Surmount won't be available right at launch. The talented folks behind the mountain climbing adventure are a small but passionate team, and they're facing a bit of a resource crunch. But fear not, they're working to make a port happen in the future. So, there's still plenty to look forward to, even with Proton support for the Demo. Surmount will have you get to climb a gigantic mountain called Mount Om. Imagine the highest mountain in the whole wide world, and that's the one you'll be conquering. But wait, it gets even better. You can play by yourself or team up with a friend and play together in co-op mode. Surmount is all about climbing, exploring, and having a great adventure. As you make your way up Mount Om, you'll come across lots of interesting characters who have their own reasons for climbing the mountain. They're pretty unique and kind of silly, which makes gameplay even better.
Surmount Trailer

Surmount is a platforming adventure, which means you'll be jumping and climbing your way through different challenges. The climbing is also based on real-life physics, so it feels super realistic. You'll have to use your skills and think carefully about each move you make to reach the top. There are different types of levels you will face in this mountain climbing adventure. Some levels are made by the developers themselves, which means they put a lot of effort into designing them just for you. But there are also big areas that are generated randomly, which makes every play through unique. So, you'll always have something new and unique to discover. As you climb, you'll find items that you can collect and use to upgrade your Surmount character. These items will make you stronger and give you special abilities. You can even customize how your climber looks, so you can be the most stylish climber out there. Oh, and if you're not an expert climber right from the start, no worries. Surmount mountain climbing adventure has a design that is enjoyable for everyone. It's not too hard or punishing, so you can have fun while improving your skills. So, gather your friends or get ready to climb solo, since Surmount is coming soon to Mac and Windows PC. Then after launch, a native build. But don't forget to try out the demo on Steam first. It's playable via Proton. So you can get a sample to reach new heights and be the first to conquer Mount Om.

I think what makes Sasuke so painful is that there's no way out. There's no way to recover from what happened to him. There's just no way to exist after your entire family is killed by your favorite person in the entire world.
And then once he learns that it was actually the village's fault? Now the only solace he had. The only place he thought was safe. Is just as tainted. Just as culpable. Fucking of course he unravels further. There's just. There's no way to return from that.
Ultimately, that's why the others can't do anything about it. Because what can you say in that instance to comfort this person? To bring them back to the light? There's nothing you can say because it's just too much. There's nothing you can say that can mean anything real or substantial

Doug used to ask me, “Is today a ‘Why’ day, or a ‘Why Not’ day?” on our walks to breakfast, and lately it’s been mostly “Why” days, but hopefully there are some “Why Nots” remaining this summer.

Why are my favorite ships always:
Different but in the way that they make perfect partners and achieve so much together. Believing in each other when it seems like no one else does. Different and despite that, they understand each other until they completely don't. Some kind of betrayal and at least one of them has abandonment issues. So much emotional constipation and painful pining. Childhood friends to [insert decades long mess here] to finally, finally lovers. "My heart has always been yours. Even when I hated you. Even when there was so much distance between us I thought we'd never pull through. There's no one else in this world for me. So, yes it's you, it's always been you".
And the only two that have qualified so far are Wrightworth (Phoenix + Miles from Ace Attorney) and Baavira (Baatar Jr + Kuvira from Legend of Korra). I love how Wrightworth's partnership led them to find the truth and redeem each other, while Baavira's led them to create a dictatorship and commit war crimes.
If you have any more examples of ships that fit, please let me know.

Do you think, when he was arrested, that Cell was seen as the same as any other prisoners? Do you think he resided in the same places, ate the same food, performed the same work? Do you think the guards saw him and his violent history and let him roam the same as the thieves whose POV we saw it through?
Or do you think they saw this barely 18-year-old, who turned to violence and cannibalism as a means to survive, and recognized the danger he posed? Do you think they held him down, fought against his struggle, and let the other prisoners know that he wasn’t like them?
Do you think Cell was confused, confused as to why he was so different from the other Brazilians that lived in those same conditions? Do you think that he saw them as threats not because they were ones, but rather, because he knew that they lived so much better than him, yet still wound up here?
Do you think this man— if you could even call this teen a man— saw JV, Pac, Mike, and Guaxinim as threats out of jealousy? Empty wishes that he could have lives their lives and made smarter decisions to be a free man roaming the earth?
Do you think he cried when they held him down and put that infernal thing on him?
Não.
Ele é um animal.
Os animais não sentem.
