July, 2024 - “I will continue, I will stay here at this place and as long as I am alive, I will serve my patients and people.” Israeli forces abducted Palestinian doctor Issam Abu Ajwa from al-Ahli hospital in Gaza where he was volunteering as a surgeon, and held him captive for over 200 days. He suffered prolonged torture at the hands of his Israeli captors and lost 37 kg in six months, but now he's back at work in al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital so save Palestinian lives. [video]

repost from @amnestyuk:
Last week, 179 healthcare workers from across the UK gathered outside St Thomas’ Hospital to demand freedom and justice for the 179 Palestinian healthcare workers who are detained without charge or trial by Israeli forces.
Among those in secret detention is Dr. Khaled Al Serr, who was taken in March this year from Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. His family have yet to see him or hear from him.
These healthcare heroes should be saving lives, not facing torture or being criminalised. We urgently call on the UK government to demand the Israeli authorities reveal the whereabouts of these healthcare workers and release them immediately.

I'm just genuinely curious about the person who sent me an anonymous message about Dr. Ira Savetsky, who recently said that he does not want a patient who doesn't "align with his values" and that if they ever ended up in surgery with him that there would not be a "good outcome"... can you please tell me what else you think that connotates?
I also did a bit more research, and I learned a little more about him. He and his wife and children were actually in Jerusalem during the time of the attack. Afterward, he offered his services to people who needed certain types of reconstructive surgeries.
Now offering services to people who needed it after the attack on October 7th, is their right. I just find their very pro-Israel stances to be troubling.
Especially when they/he claims he will help people who have experienced hate crimes and need plastic surgery, but it seems pretty clear he wouldn’t extend his services to people who don't support Israhell... you don't have to look far.
Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim people, who continuously experience forms of Islamphobia by many people around the world but especially by pro-Israeli zionists and the IOF is something that needs to be acknowledged. We should always absolutely keep talking about global antisemitism, as we should any rampant violent racist systems like anti-black racism and Islamphobia, among many.
But you really don't need to read between the lines to see that this doctor is beyond biased to begin with. I just wonder why people like him think that he's automatically a safe space when you also see things like this. His family attended a pro-Israel march a while back:
Lizzy and Ira are outspoken advocates for the State of Israel and even attended the March for Israel rally in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, which saw nearly 300,000 participants.
Tumblr media
And to the follow-up anon who asked me why I deleted the post with the previous question, it's because I wanted to address it here with more information.
I'm not saying he would actually botch a surgery, but to be able to comfortably say this speaks volumes about how zionism has been normalized.

Hello!
I had the honor of attending a film screening today held by the 2 creators of the 2012 film project "the roadmap to apartheid" (linked below!) And I really implore you to watch it too, especially if you are a white, Westerner, young adult like me, who was not taught of Palestine's existence until maybe late high school. Our education keeps us in the dark about these things on PURPOSE and it is our individual responsibility to educate ourselves better.
What I really appreciated about this film in particular is how well it spells out the context, and by God there is a lot of it. It's also incredibly useful to see these issues through a pre-october 7th lens, because it illustrates just how long this atrocity has been in the making and just how intentional every step has been. It draws many comparisons to the apartheid state of South Africa and opens up a side of information and history about this genocide that we are intentionally deprived of. I feel like I understand things better now. Evocative footage and first hand interviews with gazans and Palestinians and even Jewish scholars breaking down exactly WHY the occupation is apartheid, why that's not only immoral but illegal, and how they put these borders up in the first place.

Summary:
“Ava hands out affection like it requires no deliberation, as generously as the kindly street hawker a few blocks down from the hospital plops a gratuitously hefty scoop of crispy pork lard on Beatrice’s weekly 车仔面 despite her insistence that it’s more cholesterol than anyone should be consuming in a day, let alone a single meal.”
or: surgeons au, except it’s specifically the universe of a 2019 hong kong drama with multiple mentions of 车仔面 (cart noodles)
CALL FOR ACTION:
at the time of writing, israeli airstrikes have killed dozens in rafah, in the southern gaza strip. rafah is the sole crossing point between the gaza strip and egypt, which is not allowing in palestinian refugees, and rafah is where civilians have gone after being instructed by israeli forces to head south to avoid israeli airstrikes. rafah, now the most densely populated area in the world, is being bombed. this is not self defence — this is not about hamas, nor is it about 7th october. this is murder. this is ethnic cleansing. this is genocide, plain and clear.
here are some ways you can help innocent palestinian civilians:
donate an esim. this helps people in gaza continue to share their experiences with people like you and me. this helps in fighting against the oppression of their voices and prevents authorities from being able to sweep this under a rug and keep the truth hidden.
donate to the palestinian red crescent society (prcs). prcs is part of the international red cross and red crescent movement and is providing humanitarian aid to palestinians. you can find out more about them here. you can also read their emergency appeal launched on 12th december 2023 here.
if it’s safe for you to do so, attend a protest. speak up; use your voice — even raising awareness on social media can make a difference. don’t let the world forget that those in power are allowing this to happen, and that we are all witnesses.

Authorities in “Fascist, Complicit in Gaza Genocide and Nazi Germany” Detained the British-Palestinian Surgeon Ghassan Abu Sittah and Refused Him Entry Into the Country, According to Reports.
Abu Sittah was due to speak at a Palestinian conference in Berlin on Friday. The news was reported by Al Jazeera Arabic and Palestinian journalist Hebh Jamal, who is based in Germany. The doctor has been raising awareness about the impact of “Terrorist, Fascist, Genocidal, War Criminal and the Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐗, Isra-hell’s” war on Gaza, which has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians, since he left the coastal enclave in late November.
In the initial weeks after Israel began its assault, Abu Sittah was the unofficial English-language representative of Palestinian doctors and surgeons treating Palestinians wounded by “Terrorist, Fascist, Genocidal, War Criminal and the Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐗, Isra-helli” attacks. He accused the “Terrorist, Fascist, Genocidal, War Criminal and the Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐗, Isra-helli Military” of using white phosphorus, which is illegal in built-up and populated areas like Gaza, and deliberately targeting children.
Berlin has been a key supplier of armaments to Israel in its war on Gaza and has also been one of its main advocates in the international arena. Germany is currently subject to an International Court of Justic (ICJ) case filed by Nicaragua, which accuses it of "Facilitating" Isra-helli 🐖 🐷 🐗’s Genocide in Gaza. The ICJ is also considering a case filed by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide.
Since the start of the war six months ago, “Fascist, Complicit in Gaza Genocideans Nazi Germany” has justified its support for “Terrorist, Fascist, Genocidal, War Criminal and the Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐗, Isra-hell” by claiming it has a special duty to protect it because of its legacy of the Holocaust, in which the Nazis killed six million Jews.

EMERGENCY!🚨Please do NOT scroll!
This is Alia and her son Yasser. Yasser, his mother, his 3 siblings, and his grandparents were displaced from north Gaza after their home was destroyed by the occupation several months ago. They are currently in Rafah, which is now under heavy bombardment by the occupation, and ground forces are closing in.
Tumblr media
Alia, Yasser, and their family have been struggling with hunger and sickness for months. Now, the occupation has illegally launched an aerial and ground offensive on Rafah.
As part of this attack, they bombed the place where Alia, Yasser, and their family were sheltering. A chunk of shrapnel pierced the thin wall of the tent in which all 7 family members are living and struck Yasser in the torso, seriously injuring him. He had to have major emergency surgery to remove the shrapnel from his small body.
Photo 1 shows where the shrapnel entered the tent, photo 2 shows where Yasser was struck, and photo 3 shows the piece of shrapnel after field surgeons recovered it from his torso.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to the destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure and the worsened food crisis, Yasser’s recovery is heavily stymied. Medical infrastructure in Gaza has been almost completely destroyed, and the last functioning medical centers in Rafah are operating at minimal capacity. Yasser cannot get the treatment he needs, and he is in poor condition.
Tumblr media
Alia, Yasser, Alia’s other children, and her parents are trying to evacuate Gaza so that they can reach safety and Yasser can get the treatment he needs.
Rafah Crossing is still closed, but once it reopens, we want Alia, Yasser, and their family to evacuate. However, they are still very far behind their goal.
Please help this family find safety. If you cannot support them directly, please reblog this post, and repost this link (https://gofund.me/328c6d35) across your social media accounts.
Alia provided a full breakdown of costs on the campaign page.
Thank you
Thank you to @el-shab-hussein for verifying

700 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours and the airstrikes are more violent each night. Gaza's hospitals have fuel left for two more days. Israel only allowed aid into Gaza on the condition they didn't carry fuel. The Indonesian hospital has shut down already, because doctors have no supplies and no choice but to let the wounded die. They're calling it a collapse but the term doesn't do it justice.
Over a 100 incubator babies are at risk. There are 50.000 pregnant women in Gaza right now, and 5.500 due to give birth this month. Menstruating people are taking pills in order to stop their periods, because they do not have pads or water to maintain hygiene. Surgeons are operating without anesthesia. Water is not reaching Gazans because there's no electricity or fuel for water pumps.
There's no excuse for this. Israel justifies the airstrikes by saying they want to destroy Hamas infrastructure and release the hostages, but they have refused to negotiate for their release. Hamas informed Israel they wanted to release two elderly women without anything in return, and Israel refused. Netanyahu said they wouldn't take their own civilians back because it was "mendacious propaganda." When the hostages were finally released, Netanyahu prohibited the hospital from giving press releases. Yocheved Lifshitz went behind their backs and talked to the press anyway, saying she was treated very well by Hamas, but the government abandoned them. They're being used as straw men. Israel is conditioning the entry of fuel to the release of hostages and yet, according to The Wall Street Journal, when Hamas proposed to exchange 50 hostages for fuel they denied. IDF officials have said they fear the release of more hostages because that might withhold the order to their ground invasion. They do not care as long as they can use the hostages as a pretext for their slaughtering.
There's a turning tide for Palestine in public support. Support for Israel was built through decades of propaganda and we are making a dent into it. Zionists are desperate, holding zoom meetings to promote zionism, but we have to do so much more. We have to shame people in power into supporting the Palestinian cause.
Keep yourself updated and share Palestinian voices, looking to inform yourself from the sources. Palestinians have asked of us only that we share, tweet and post, over and over. Muna El-Kurd said every tweet is like a treasure to them, because their voices are repressed on social media and even on this very app. Make it your action item to share something about the Palestinian plight everyday. Here are some resources:
Al Jazeera
Anadolu Agency
Mondoweiss

Palestinian Youth Movement

Al-Shabaka (twitter / instagram)
Mariam Barghouti (twitter / instagram)

Take action. You can participate in boycotts wherever you are in the world, through BDS guidelines. Right now, they are focusing on boycotting (don't be overwhelmed by gigantic boycott lists. Only boycott additional brands if you can):
Carrefour
HP
Puma
Sabra
Sodastream
Ahava cosmetics
Israeli fruits and vegetables
Push for a cultural boycott - pressure your favorite artist to speak out on Palestine and cancel any upcoming performances on occupied territory (Lorde cancelled her gig in Israel because of this. It works.)
If you can, participate in direct action or donate. Palestine Action works to shut down Israeli weapons factories in the UK and USA, and have successfully shut down one of their firms in London. Some of the activists are going on trial and are calling for mobilizing on court.
Call your representatives. The Labour Party in the UK had an emergency meeting after several councilors threatened to resign if they didn't condemn Israeli war crimes. Calling to show your complaints works, even more if you live in a country that funds genocide.
