Trump Wins Again - 02/28/2024
Good news, 82-year-old Mitch McConnel, Rhino, is stepping down as the senate GOP leader this November. They're talking about replacing him from a selection of three candidates; John Thune, John Barrasso, and John Cornyn. Cornyn is the more likely because of the three he's the biggest Trump supporter. I personally would like to see Ted Cruz or Jim Jordan as their leader. It's a long time until this November so a lot can happen, you just never know, especially in politics. One thing I know that is pretty certain, almost 100% that Nikki Haley will not be nominated in the republican primary this year. Donald Trump won Michigan last night, getting 68.1%. Nikki Haley got 26.6%. That's a victory margin of 41.5 percentage points. It's time for Nikki to go home, but apparently, she's hanging around at least through Super Tuesday on March 5th. Even if she does go the distance it looks to be impossible for her to win. What is possible is for her to lose all 50 states. I seriously doubt that she'll stay in it to the end. By losing her home state of South Carolina where she was elected twice for Governor, she may have already put a nail in her political coffin.

Today is Super Tuesday. It's more than just presidential primaries.
Last night Rachel Maddow spotlighted some of the wack Republican candidates and wove them together to describe how bizarrely extremist the GOP has become. This is NOT your grandmother's Republican Party which gave us sane people like Gerald Ford or George Pataki.
If you are not taking the threat seriously then you just haven't been paying attention.
Ms. Maddow goes on to say that it's up to us to stop a MAGA Republican takeover of the US. We cannot rely on some legal gimmick to stop Trump.
In the words of civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson: "Nobody will save us from us but us."

I hate how necessary it is that we vote for Biden, but it’s *so* necessary. If Trump gets re-elected and project 2025 gets started, best case scenario we face war. #VoteBlueNoMatterWho so we can still legally criticize our government

I worked with some amazing folk to do polling shifts yesterday for Super Tuesday and people said some really fucked up shit to some of my people! stuff like “they don’t need a ceasefire they need to be beaten to death” meanwhile the person we were campaigning for is Jewish…
its honestly fucked how many people mindlessly support Israel’s genocide, not because they care at all about the Jewish diaspora, but because they just hate Arabs and/or Muslims and want to see them wiped out. It’s fucking bizarre to see so many conservatives who parroted antisemitic conspiracy suddenly flip the script and start caring a whole lot about fighting ‘antisemitism’ at universities/in the workplace when they really mean anti-war protests. They are not just incredibly racist and Islamophobic, but antisemitic too because they would rather Israel wipe out Palestinians completely so that the US can have a stronghold ally in the Middle East and because they see it as a place to ship Jewish people off to

I don’t know who needs to hear this but John Oliver’s “incremental change is possible and valuable” quote from his Hot Ones episode is the edict people should be living by right now.
You do not have to be thrilled with your options but do recognize one represents a threat that can be dealt with and challenged and the other one cannot.

Fact checking Donald Trump is a full time, even overtime job. He told over 30,000 lies just during his term.
The problem with live news coverage of Trump is that he gets to spew lies and that the factchecking has to wait until he shuts his porcine mouth or producers cut him off.
Low information voters are therefore likely to hear Trump's semi-coherent rants but miss any attempts to call out his lies.
Having said that, MSNBC on Super Tuesday night did a decent attempt at countering a few of Trump's main lies.
Joy Reid is pointing something out that Democrats need to do much more. Trump TOTALLY botched the US pandemic response right from the start. A reminder of what Trump said at CNBC on 22 January 2020 – the day the first COVID-19 case appeared in the US.
Tumblr media
Of course it wasn't just fine under Trump.
The Obama administration, which limited the 2014-2016 Ebola pandemic in the US to under a dozen cases, had put together a pandemic playbook. You can read it here. Trump totally ignored it. He spent 50 days after the first US COVID case doing typically idiotic Trump stuff like criticizing 2020 Oscar Best Picture winner Parasites. And afterwards he became preoccupied with quack cures for COVID as it spread throughout the US.
People who claim they had it better under Trump are hoping that the memories of voters are as impaired as Trump's cognition.
We need to be prepared to offer clear fact checks to anybody hearing Trump's lies. Of course convincing MAGA zombies is a waste of time. But when around low information voters who may not be part of the Trump cult we need to be able to offer convincing short refutations. Pointing out that Trump did nothing for the first 50 days of COVID in the US is a good start. So speak up!
Trump's lack of a competent COVID response led to a cascade of acute economic problems which took several years to sort out.
