Was not expecting to bawl my eyes out watching the 2021 Suicide Squad. I saw a clip on tiktok and there was someone that had the power to control rats and she had a pet rat named Sebastian so I just had to watch it. The girl who can control rats was asked "why rats?" because one of the other characters is terrified of them and she countered with "why not rats?". Towards the end, there's a quote her father, the original Rat Catcher, said about rats and WHY rats.

"Rats are the lowliest and most despised of all creatures, my love. If they have purpose, so do we all."

And honestly... they are one of the most despised. And for no good reason. And they do have purpose. They are one of the most affectionate, loving, intelligent, caring, understanding creatures ever. They have more compassion for not only humans but their own species as well. Much more compassion than some humans have for each other, thats for sure. We, as humankind, could learn a lot about love and compassion from rats. They mourn their dead just like we do. They show affection just like we do. They sense emotion just like we do. They know how to care for one another just like we do. And so much more.

People really need to stop using centuries old stereotypes when it comes to rats. Especially ones that are domesticated PETS. Rats deserve so much more love than they're given. I literally have a rat that just wants to give everyone kisses because she's so full of love despite her small size.
