I can't tell you how much I don't care about age gap discourse. I don't care that he's 700 years old and she's 17! if it's not something you could criticize in real life then I don't care! I. don't. care!
#if immortals dating teenagers makes you uncomfortable then like okay more power to you#i guess don't read/watch shit with those kinds of age gaps#but like to me it's kind of silly ro nitpick fabtastical age gaps#like there are vampires/faeries/insert immortal beings#i simply do not care to hold those kinds of stories to modern dating morality I'm not sorry#(and tbh I'm pretty forgiving of normal life age gaps if they're handled in interesting and nuanced ways#like if one character is 24 and the other is 16 but there is a moral struggle and resistance there then who cares#would i ever condone that irl? absolutely not! but fiction is fiction who fucking cares#if you personally don't want to interact with those stories then don't but imo they're not inherently problematic just by existing)#anyways that's my rant I'm tired of age gap discourse#make the age gaps larger!! a seven thousand year old wizard falling for a nineteen year old go!#(*actually i do have one caveat#I'm approaching this from an adult perspective and i understand sometimes younger readers are more impressionable#and for younger readers i actually think real life age gaps can't be explored well because younger readers often don't pick up on the nuance#and larger than life fantastical age gaps actually serve the purpose much better in YA)

Once again advising anyone who follows me to read this fic. Its incredible, its a life changing experience. It will alter your brain chemistry, it will remodel your soul.
It's also one of the few multi chapter Barty/Lily fics out there. And is just, genuinely, incredibly written. The characters feel alive, dimensional, layered.
Its also perhaps the funniest writing I've ever come across, so not only is it great to read for the story(amazing), the characters(perfect), the depth(bottomless) its also great to read if you just want to smile!
I just found and caught up with Lily Evans’ Guide to Dissent, Delusion, and Disastrous Men
And it’s literally so good!!! thank you for blessing my bartylily heart with this beautiful work 🙏🏽
ahh thank you !! im so glad you’re enjoying it 💕

Harry Potter Fanfic Idea: One Change, Two Lives.
I want time travel, Tomarry au, where Harry arrives before Tom goes insane. Before he even goes to Hogwarts.
I want an au where Harry is just two years older than Tom, due to the time magic, regressing his soul into a Potter's squib that was thrown away and is at Wool's orphanage with Tom. One where he steps in cover for Tom's accidental magic. One who explains why Tom sometimes wants to do what he does and curve his more dangerous tendencies.
Where Harry goes out to find Tom Riddle Sr. to see if the man is willing (and able because he had a terrible thing happen to him by Tom's mother) to take Tom in. He finds that Riddle Sr. is still struggling with what happened to him but is willing to at least provide for his son, even if he can't stand the sight of him sometimes without panic.
Harry remains anonymous in his role of reuniting the Riddles. When Tom is taken out of Wools into a stable home that has a somewhat distant but loving father, kind grandmother, and proud grandfather, he slowly starts to go from being afraid of dying to being scared of letting them down.
He still has some mental issues, but he's no longer dangerous. His father is coming around and, with Harry's help, has repaired his image with the town. They set it up that the Gaunts were illegally stealing from a Riddle water well on the far end of their property, where Riddle Sr. would be the only one to drink out of after riding his horses.
The well was supposedly contaminated because the Gaunts kept using a bucket made of silver, and that caused "madness". This is years later, but Tom eventually finds out Harry saved his father's image.
Tom sees Harry as this hero-like figure, and when he comes to Hogwarts, he finds that Harry is a popular Gryffindor. Because Harry remained at Wools Orphanage, seeing as the Potters had obliviated the potter squib he took over, he changed his name to Harry Evans and pretended to be a muggle-born.
He is one of the most talented muggle-borns to ever step into Hogwarts, and he makes the Potters sweat because he looks so familiar. They just can't tell where. (The Squib had been seven. He looks different now at eleven when he came back).
As a third-year, he's even Quidditch Captain of the Gryffindor team, and literally half the school is in love with him.
Tom Riddle, who has changed enough to be a hat stall, eventually goes to Ravenclaw because his desire for knowledge for knowledge's sake is significantly larger than his ambition in this timeline. He also discovers that in the Wizarding world, gender norms and views on sexuality are so much different than the muggle ones.
He found out that his having a crush on the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain is not an odd thing. Just a different preference and a few of the boys in Ravenclaw have the same opinion as him.
It takes him until the end of his first year to admit it, though.
Meanwhile, Harry decides to try the theory of "nature vs nurture" and live a normal life while Riddle Sr. deals with Tom. He figures that he will take him out if Tom is still a dark lord after having a different childhood.
He also swore off dating, much to the pain of many young mages. Harry had broken so many hearts that Albus Dumbledore side-eyed him, thinking of him as evil, but Harry finds that before he was the headmaster and hero of the war, Dumbledore didn't have much power over him.
If anything, he reminded him of Snape's potion class.
He just isn't prepared for Tom being....a regular teenager. One that is annoyingly open about his crush on him and, over the years, attempts to woo Harry.
Basically, a time travel Au that leads to Tom and Harry's entire relationship is like this:

Of course, after Hogwarts, Harry can't help himself, so he joins the war and, surprisingly, is the one to take down Gellert Grindelwald after taking his education seriously. He becomes the new professor at Hogwarts to become Headmaster.
He took Dumbldore's future since Dumbldore sacrificed his past.
Tom, meanwhile, is busy preparing to take over the Earlship from his father and chooses to focus his obsession with old magic and historical artifacts to become a magical archaeologist.
He's accredited for being the one to find the Hogwarts Founders' four artifacts. Tom uses this fame to search Hogwarts for the Chamber of Secrets- he knows where it is. It's just an excuse to flirt with Headmaster Evans.

Hinny recs (60k words and on)
✨ The Changeling / 182k / Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.
✨ pick it up, pick it all up and start again / 69k / The thing about war is that it never ends. Not really. The battlefields just change locations. Harry and Ginny after the war.
✨ we can still be, who said we were / 124k / Navigating distances and finding your way back home. Harry and Ginny after the war. Second in the Armistice Series.
✨ in my head we do everything right / 210k / It’s not as easy as it sounds, going from hypotheticals to reality. Harry and Ginny navigate life after Hogwarts. Third in the Armistice Series.
✨ we can't control (watch me unfold) / 73k / It’s a simple arrangement. Between her grueling quidditch schedule and his mysterious auror duties, Ginny and Harry find time to have spectacular sex with no strings attached. It’s incredibly uncomplicated. Except when it isn’t.
(I ADORE THIS FIC. Ginny and Harry’s characterizations are so so SO good. Their chemistry is off charts, and the plot/government conspiracy had me ON MY TOES. Please read it.)
✨ An Hour of Wolves / 110k / Sirius is dead, but Harry's doing alright: between a brand new Quidditch Captaincy, private lessons with Dumbledore, and increasing suspicions about Draco Malfoy, he's got enough to keep him busy. And if an uncomfortable encounter with a classmate ends up leaving him with another challenge to face and even more secrets to keep, well...he's still fine.
Really. He is.
(Handles darker themes like eating disorders and sa, so be aware of that. Mental health is a big part of the story, even more so than the ship itself.)
✨ Noticing / 105k / Ginny suddenly realizes two things, in very quick succession: One, that Harry’s never really looked at her that closely before, and two, that he is absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, doing that. Right now.
This is the story of how Harry comes to notice her... but more importantly, it's the story of how Ginny comes to notice that he noticed.
(An incredibly realistic and hilarious portrayal of teenage struggles, I laughed so much with this one.)
✨ Not From Others / 132k / She may not have been able to join Harry, Ron and Hermione, but Ginny refuses to go down without a fight. As war approaches, Ginny returns to Hogwarts to resurrect Dumbledore's Army and face the darkest year the wizarding world has ever seen.
✨ The Path From You / 142k / At 22, Ginny had lived through several lifetimes worth of misery. She'd been deceived, betrayed, and possessed, her very soul almost wrung out into nothing. She'd been subordinated, humiliated, and tortured, lived almost an entire year surrounded by enemies.
Fought Death Eaters and dementors and giant spiders. Been heartbroken, anguished, and grief stricken. Lost friends and mentors and a brother.
And through it all, she'd survived... because of luck, or sheer force of will.
Maybe a little of both.
If she could suffer and endure and prevail through all of that, she could live through some anonymous wanker plaguing her with badly written poetry.
(An amazing take on Ginny and her struggles post war. Waiting for the author to update 🙏🏻)

The Teenage Foolishness
Pairing: Sirius Black x male!reader angst at certain point, kinda smut at another. If you haven't read the previous post/chapter whatever, Y/N is muggle-born
Hope you like it! TW: use of Y/N, internalised homophobia, pining, erotic thoughts, erotic things in general, AMAB! reader, swearing, mentions of war, mentions of toxic family
After the first year, the following two were not particularly remarkable. That is not to say that the days were mundane, or that nothing interesting ever happened; rather, you were immersed in a routine devoid of anything exceptional to distinguish it.
You and the rest of the Marauders—a nickname coined by Lily of all people - "Unbelievable! You cost us 50 points, and for what?! Marauding around the castle like vagabonds… I cannot comprehend what is so special or enjoyable about being as much of a nuisance as Peeves!" - continued to pursue your intention of making the most of your years at the school, pranking those who deserved it (mainly the Slytherins) and not taking life too seriously
At times, you felt that James and Sirius, in particular, went a little overboard in targeting a specific individual, but simultaneously, he gave as good as he got, so you did not see much issue with the clear rivalry between your group and Severus Snape.
You continued to learn, to excel, and to immerse yourself in magical education, relentless in your persuit of knowing everything.
In your third year, you began tutoring some first-years in Transfiguration and Charms. You also encountered your first struggle - Arithmancy.
You chose it alongside Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures as your electives, thinking it wouldn’t be too challenging.
You did enjoy the Creatures class the most and found Ancient Runes, which included lessons on enchanting objects, warding, and curse-breaking, truly fascinating. You were always eager for those classes.
But Arithmancy… You thought it would simply be wizarding maths, but it was far from that. You barely scraped by in it and fully intended to drop it before fifth year. Spell-crafting be damned; if you had to read one more paragraph on the properties of numbers and shapes, you felt like you might spontaneously combust. And preparing for an OWL in it… that would be unbearable.
Another struggle that began in third year was dealing with feelings. Suddenly, you started experiencing peculiar emotions. Of course, there had been boys who caught your eye before, but it had never been significant. However, the affections you might have had, or not, seemed to grow in intensity.
Suddenly, instead of a mere sense of admiration, a deep longing emerged. You would catch yourself imagining how delightful it would be to walk hand in hand with them, to embrace them, to kiss them, to…
Even with the knowledge that your proclivities were not frowned upon in the wizarding world, the years you spent before joining it had conditioned you to feel guilt and denial. It felt as though you were being pushed by shame from one side and encouragement from the other, leaving no space for action.
So you suppressed those feelings, turning to those shameful late-night moments in which you inflicted some self-pleasure upon yourself.
You felt guilty thinking about schoolmates that way. The only comfort was that it usually wasn’t someone you were particularly close with, so objectifying them wasn’t thrown in your face the next morning.
Then the fifth year arrived, and with it, a very changed, taller, better-built Sirius.
He said he had spent most of his summer at his uncle Alphard's house, which had a Quidditch pitch nearby, allowing him to fly and work out every day. Training for his Beater position on the Quidditch team involved a lot of work from his arm and chest muscles.
And what a sight those muscles were, when he took his outer robe off, leaving only a thin dress shirt on. They were enthralling to watch, and it took you greater effort than fighting any duel, facing any Slytherin, or preparing for any exam to avert your gaze elsewhere.
It didn't help that he paid particular attention to you. There was something in his gaze that made you want to squirm.
It's worth mentioning you changed over the summer too. You barely had to lift your head now to look your dad straight in the eyes (which came with your mum droning on about needing to buy an entirely new wardrobe for you since all your clothes were too short). Your face became thinner, and your jawline more pronounced. You would often run, not from schoolmates, but for the simple release of pent-up energy from being deprived of magic (you would curse whoever it was that created the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery, if they were still alive) and worrying about a possible raid from Death Eaters all summer.
You did try to act casual. But you were also 16. And suddenly, when the night came, the only thoughts you had, were of him.
His nature didn't help either. He was always affectionate with touch - an arm around your shoulder when walking together, his head always resting on someone's lap while relaxing on the couches in the Gryffindor common room. He did that with all of his friends.
So it meant he did it with you as well. In those moments, you begged to be back in the Arithmancy classroom, listening to lectures about numerological transcendence or whatever else you couldn't grasp, because it would still be easier than withstanding the force of Sirius Black's friendly affection. Friendly.
You always made sure to keep the outer robes on, so you could cover your crotch and the erection that occured whenever he tugged you closer to him or rested his head on your arm.
After one very close call, when he laid his head on your lap, you realised it had become essential never to sit next to him again. Not as long as you felt the way you did. It didn't help that the thoughts of his mouth so close to that particular area contributed to your unseemly activities later that evening and were followed by a sense of shame when you saw him the next morning while preparing to go down for breakfast.
And even if you told yourself that you were dealing with this insufferable infatuation, you couldn't help but feel jealous of the people who sparked Sirius' interest. You weren't the only person who had noticed how he had changed over the summer, after all.
It seemed every other week there would be a new girl clutching onto him like a lifeline. And considering the affection he showed his friends, you shouldn't have been surprised by how flagrant he was with them.
The shameless make-out sessions, blatant touching, and disgusting displays like feeding each other were hard to ignore. But over time, you got used to it. You didn't accept it, but it was just something that happened, yet another flaw in the world. It still was better than the fact that there was an actual war happening outside the school halls, a war against people like you, or rather, about ridding the world of people like you.
But then, one day, Sirius showed up for lunch with a boy. A Ravenclaw, one year above you. All of you were confused. And confusion turned into many different emotions when the ministrations that Sirius' girlfriends received were extended to him.
If you felt uneasy before, now you were actually physically sick. You wanted to vomit, to break something, or rather someone.
Ironically, one of the few comforts you had in the entire situation was knowing that if you never stood a chance with him, it wasn't because of your appearance or any other personal attribute, but simply because he was exclusively into girls. This made it easier to avoid letting yourself fantasise about being with him. At that point, however, the reality stung more sharply—knowing that he chooses not to have an interest in you, despite being open to it. It just made it all more painful.
So you quickly excused yourself and exited the Hall. You didn't run and cry, thinking about jumping off the astronomy tower like some heartsick, stupid people would do. You weren't sad. You were angry. Furious. Livid. Violent.
You hadn't noticed Remus going after you, all the way to the Forbidden Forest. You hadn't noticed him as you were throwing all known curses and hexes at a large pile of rocks, annihilating it in the process.
But after you were done, and decided to go back, there he stood. With this look of pity. Maybe you weren't as subtle as you thought, or maybe it was him being his usual, too perceptive self.
"I would say that it gets better, but I'm not going to start lying to you," he said.
"Are you- Do you- You too? With Sirius, I mean," you replied.
"Merlin no!" and after a short pause, "Well, maybe a little last year. But it went out the window after he insulted Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, massive turn-off," he said, the last part with a scoff, "And I'm more partial to the fair sex, being honest with you."
"How long have you known?" you asked.
"You know how my senses are heightened? Due to- you know. Well, some stronger emotions have the slightest scents that I can detect. They don't really compare to any normal ones… well, the technicalities don't really matter. Arousal is one of those scents, and I smelled it off of you while you were looking at him in the distance once or twice."
"Well, thank you for not calling me out on it," you said with the slightest of smiles. At that point, you also had to ask, because you knew it would nag you forever, "So if you can actually smell emotions, that means that things like…" You didn't exactly know how to ask whether he could smell you wank in the night, so you just made a gesture. He didn't seem unsettled by your question, to his credit.
"Oh, yeah, at first it was quite uncomfortable, but you weren't the first one to do it... Sirius was always hyper and he is the oldest, I suppose," he said, then continued, "I learned a spell to shield my bed from all smells in Second Year, but I forget to cast it sometimes," he said while rubbing the nape of his neck.
"Well, I've never felt more sorry for you, especially with Peter's dirty socks..." you said.
“Yes, well, it comes with living with four other teenage boys. But I’m the one who’s supposed to comfort you right now, not the other way around,” he said with a small laugh.
“You did say it wouldn’t just get better, as if from experience… Who were you that angry about? You, the calmest, most reasonable and even-tempered Gryffindor in history.”
“There was one particular girl that Sirius had dated about a month ago, and now even if I did try to ask her out, I’d be asking Sirius’ ex out. It did irk me, knowing he would drop her after a week or so anyway.”
“A shame you hadn’t told me; then we could wallow in self-pity together,” you chuckled a little. Maybe Freud was onto something with his “just talk about it and it will get better.” Although, you were also quite tired, so maybe there was simply no energy for anger at the moment.
“Do you want to smash some things too? I could conjure more rocks if you’d like,” you asked.
He smiled. “No, but I will tell you if I do. Let’s head back; I think we’re already late for Potions.”
You groaned. “Fuck Potions, we’re both rubbish at it anyway. Besides, I don’t know if I have it in me not to throw some beetle eyes or something equally disgusting at him right now.” You said this as you started walking back towards the castle.
“I am a prefect, you know,” Remus replied.
“Oh? So I suppose it wasn’t you who turned Mulciber’s hair into snakes yesterday?” you responded with a small chuckle.
He just huffed but didn’t rebut.
______________________________________________________________
What you and Remus failed to talk about and consider were appearances. There was nothing out of the ordinary with Remus’, but you, however, looked as if you’d just emerged from a fighting ring - messy hair, ruffled clothes, and scratches from the rock shards that you hadn’t even registered.
After worried questions stemming from a calm, “What happened?” from Peter, to James’ intense, “Did someone do this to you?! Tell. Me. Who!” you just said you’d fallen down the stairs, and Remus had taken you to the infirmary, which explained your absence during Potions class. And since it was just a theory lesson, you doubted Slughorn noticed or cared much.
The rest of the day, after fixing yourself up in the bathroom, you tried to act as usual. And it mostly worked. But, as seemed to be the pattern of the day, Sirius disrupted your attempts at casualness. It wasn’t his fault per se, since you always sat together in Defence Against the Dark Arts. Normally, you would chat and joke, having already mastered the subject. But today, you didn’t even want to see him, let alone talk to him.
Sirius wasn’t stupid, nor as self-conceited as some believed. He noticed the lack of banter and witty responses from you and asked, “Are you okay? You seem a little off today.”
Clearly he didn’t connect the dots that your being "a little off" might be related to your supposed fall down the stairs. His mind was probably preoccupied with that Ravenclaw arsewipe he had shown up with, making it clear he was bi.
So you simply responded, “I’m fine,” and started taking notes. This really set Sirius off, because you never did that in Defence class. By Fourth Year, you had enough knowledge and skill to score an Outstanding in NEWT for the subject. You had even ventured into Knockturn Alley to buy books on martial magic, most containing curses only found in the restricted section of the school library. He knew why you were so determined to master this area of magic. With raids, disappearances, and murders reported every other day, who wouldn’t be?
Sirius thought that maybe something else had happened other than the fall, but what could it be? No one dared to challenge you to a duel or sneak up on you after you sent the youngest Yaxley brother to the infirmary with so many afflictions and injuries he didn’t get out until a week later (you only got three nights of detention since it was technically self-defence after he tried to use the body-bind curse on you from behind first. The Gryffindor privilege probably played a part in that as well). You didn’t seem to be under a side-effect of pain medicine either.
He only realized the lesson was over because of your abrupt departure the moment the bell rang.
But there was someone with you when whatever happened had occurred - Remus. He had the answers, and Sirius was adamant about finding out the truth. But when he turned towards the desk Remus sat at, it was empty as well.
Suspicious.
Both of you disappearing halfway through the day and then coming back disheveled with a very convenient story... Could you...? Together?
Now, with his mind racing, Sirius reached the only plausible conclusion: it became clear he was into guys too, and one of you must have gotten jealous, so you sorted it out. The idea that Remus could have been the one to be with you like that, while Sirius was left out, sparked something he never wanted to feel about any of his friends - jealousy.
He loved Moony, don't get him wrong. But it was you and him that always had a little stack of letters after the holidays for each other, since neither could send them during the summer. "Merlin! I didn't know we had some summer essays set to write. What will we do, Pete?" James would always laugh. It was you and him that hated going away from Hogwarts because the castle was where you truly felt at home. It was you and him that sat together by the Black Lake in you spot, sharing those quiet moments that seemed to stretch into forever.
Why wouldn't you consider him for something more, then? He wasn't a saint, he knew that. But he also had access to mirrors, and he was a friend as long as Moony was.
And he had to admit, when he saw you on the train in September, desire surged through him. But you never seemed to look at him too long, let alone show any sign of actual interest. So he tried what he had seen work on those desperate girls and used all the tricks he had. But those attempts only seemed to turn you off, making you retreat from him. He recalled that evening when he laid his head on your lap, asking you to braid or play with his hair, and instead of blushing and giggling like those girls did, you immediately needed to get back to the dorm, claiming there was "a book you forgot to return to the library, and you better run before Madam Pince closes it" or some other excuse. After that, you avoided sitting next to him, except for during class.
When he saw you could defend yourself from the baby death eaters - commonly known as Slytherins - he stopped pretending not to associate with you. He was openly best friends with a "blood traitor," which, in his parents' eyes, was as bad as being a "filthy little Mudblood." So, he would get punished anyway.
He cherished the surprise on your face when he sat next to you at the Sorting Ceremony, the delight in your eyes when you realised he wasn’t playing the charade he had in First Year.
He was always honest with you. He never felt it important to discuss his sexuality, especially since you never mentioned yours. He assumed you shared his sentiment. But now it was clear that you had discussed it with someone - just not him. Maybe you and Remus had a special spot as well? Or maybe, the spot by the lake was only special to Sirius, and you came there only when dear Remus was too busy, or worse, out of pity, because Sirius would sit there sometimes, hoping you would appear.
He hated that feeling. You were his friends. He shouldn't be mad at you two being close, being together. But he was. He was angry with you, and he was even more furious with himself.
Maybe if he just mellowed down his advances, you would start to show similiar affection towards him as well? Or maybe you did feel it, but was just awkward about it and he hadn't noticed?
And then there were the flings.
So on one hand, you might be plainly uninterested, wanting nothing more than friendship. On the other, you might have been interested, but he had ruined it.
He had ruined it all, just as he always seemed to. His mother had often said so. His father, his br- Regulus, never disagreed.
He didn't ever realise he was now alone, with tears glistening in his eyes, heading towards nowhere in particular
______________________________________________________________
The rest of the week was tense for the Marauders. Sirius retreated as he had after his first Howler back in First Year. Fortunately, this time he already had James. Pete stuck by him too, offering snacks in the evenings and welcome distractions. Both of them knew Peter didn’t need help with Herbology, yet he asked Sirius for it, for example.
Not that you and Remus were there to witness most of these moments. You were cooped up in the library, sometimes together with Lily, Marlene, and Mary.
You didn’t know if it was just instinct or if you were that easy to read, but the three girls took to comforting you as well. Your study sessions continued with the addition of Lily’s dormmates, which made things much more fun, but also much riskier, since Madam Pince didn’t take kindly to any disturbances of silence, and snickering was very much a disturbance.
One evening, Marlene said that when she was sad she did her first piercing by herself. She mentioned it off-handedly, while being scolded by Lily and Mary for getting her nose infected - that attempt was not as successful as the first one “or numerous following ones!” Marlene didn’t fail to add.
So, when you were returning to the common room, you asked her which piercing wasn’t too painful and if she would be willing to do it for you. She eagerly agreed, recommending helix piercings since earlobes were “too obvious.”
And as much as it wasn’t the most pleasant experience, it wasn’t too bad either. You settled for piercings in each ear. Marlene said it was fate, since the Hogsmeade trip would be happening in two days. You would be able to buy your own jewellery, wearing hers for now.
You were barely the first person to have some alterations to their appearance done, so it didn’t gain much attention from most, only your friends, who you didn’t have many of, especially since three of your dormmates seemed engrossed with something they were sharing with neither you nor Remus. Even Mary said you looked "dashing", and with her being one of the icons (Marlene had called her a guru) of style by that point, you knew it really meant something.
You saw the dark circles under Sirius’ eyes, as well as how puffy they were. You wanted to comfort him, truly you did. He was your friend, first and foremost. But now, it seemed he was avoiding you. You thought of cornering him somehow but thought better of it. One can’t make Sirius Black do or say anything he doesn’t want to do. And he did not take kindly to attempts at trying.
So, you left him be and didn’t address any of the occasional looks you got from him with anything else but, what you hoped was, a comforting smile.
The trip to Hogsmeade was as eventful as any other, but with you not only buying earrings but some rings as well. You made sure none were made of silver, mindful of Moony.
The Sunday, however, proved to be something entirely else. You were planning on writing the Potions essay and reading the latest issue of Transfiguration Today. You hoped there would be at least something more than a mere mention of the Animagus process, having found only some sparse remarks on it in the books you’d read in the library so far.
There was always the Restricted Section, but you needed the Cloak for that, and James was always with Sirius.
And as much of a pain as it was to write about the Draught of Peace, it was one of the possible potions to brew for your OWL exam, and you needed one in Potions, no matter how much you loathed the idea of studying the subject at NEWT level. But you needed the NEWT to be allowed into the Auror Training, and complaining would get you nowhere.
But when you were finally done and reached for the magazine on your nightstand, the dorm room burst open, and in came James, Peter, and Sirius. And they came with purpose.
“Right, we’re going to settle this. You,” James pointed at you and Sirius, “will stay in this room until you’re okay again. I will let you starve to death if I have to.” And with that, he came out, locking the door.
You looked at Sirius and didn’t know what else to say but, “Always with dramatics, that one.”
Sirius didn’t respond at first, just looked at you for some time. You avoided his stare, which clearly was the wrong thing to do, seeing what he asked you next.
“Why can’t you even look at me?” he said in a tone much more broken than Sirius should sound like. You had only witnessed a few times over the five years you’d known each other. So you did look at him, straight in the eyes, and responded.
“Of course I can look at you.” You really didn’t know how to handle this. You didn’t even know what exactly it was about.
“Since we returned in September, you don’t want to, though,” after a short pause, he asked, “We’re friends, right? Friends tell each other things.”
“Of course we’re friends. Why would you question that?” you said immediately.
He looked at you, intensely, expectantly. But you really didn’t know what he could want you to say. There was no way he knew about your crush, right?
Seeing that he wasn’t going to receive what he had hoped for, he said with a clipped tone, “Then why didn’t you tell me about you and Remus? Or James and Pete, for that matter?”
Now you were really bewildered. You wanted to ask what he meant, but he clearly wasn’t finished.
“I bet you told Marls and the other two, though, always hanging around with each other now. I mean, I could understand if you’d just started and were figuring things out, but once you’re having sex, I think it’s serious enough to mention it to people you claim are your family!” he finished, shouting.
“What do you- Are- Sex!? With who!?”
“Well, Moony of course, unless you were doing it with Marlene in the third-floor bathroom on Thursday too!”
"For fuck's sake, have you taken something!? Or is this some very elaborate prank!?" You didn’t allow him to respond just yet. "I’m not having sex with anyone, I’m not in a relationship with anyone, Marlene only pierced my ears," you said, pointing at your ears. "And I really don’t think that Remus fetching me from the Forbidden Forest is that significant to mention!"
Sirius seemed surprised. You rarely screamed or shouted, preferring to just hex someone if they were going too far. Of all the questions now flooding his mind, he asked,
"What were you doing in the Forbidden Forest?"
"I was smashing up some rocks, if it’s that important to you. And I left the centaurs one of the phoenix feathers I found last year in the Astronomy Tower, along with a very sincere apology letter the next day, so I doubt they’ll want to hunt me down. It was only a pile of rocks anyway; I made sure not to harm any trees or animals."
"Why?"
"You know centaurs are the ones that planted and protect the forest. They demand respect. I doubt me coming in all unreasonable and entitled to destroy parts of it, even as irrelevant as a pile of-" At that, he interrupted you.
"I don’t care about the centaurs! Why were you wrecking rocks, and if that’s what happened on Monday, why are you cross with me?"
"I— I’m not cross with you, and it doesn’t matter why. It’s stupid, and I’m dealing with it."
"Maybe I could help, you know. Or at least you could have told me."
You were getting sick of his apparent entitlement to all your issues and that, mixed with still not fully gone anger at him over the Ravenclaw, prompted you to say with a clipped tone, "Well, you seem pretty preoccupied these days. I wouldn’t want to get groped by accident."
His eyes widened, cheeks reddened, and his mouth opened and closed in a repeated cycle. He was visibly thinking about what to say next.
"Is that why you’ve been avoiding me? Seeing me with those girls?"
You barely even registered saying, "You forgot the Ravenclaw already?"
At that you saw a hint of a smirk on his face, but what was more noticeable was the step he took towards you. "Did it bother you? Seeing me like that?"
Oh, you definitely didn’t like the direction this conversation was going. So you quickly tried to escape the looming vision of actually confessing your feelings to him.
"Who wouldn’t be bothered? People do go to that Hall to eat their food. You and whoever else was your conquest of the week were trying to eat each other."
He only inched closer. "No one else was demolishing the forest because of that, though, were they?"
You faltered. You were losing this argument, and you’d have to go past Sirius to reach your wand, which you had inconveniently left on the bed.
"You know, a lot of things just started to make sense to me..." He was almost within touching distance.
"Well, enlighten me then," you said, hoping your tone was more confident than you felt.
"The way you distanced yourself, wouldn’t look at me too long... I thought I might have done something bad or wrong, but now I’m realising," and after a pause, in a much huskier tone, "I actually might have done the opposite."
He did touch you now, caressing your arm. "I’m going to ask you something, Y/N, and I need you to be honest." The hand went from your arm to your chin, directing your head to look him in the face. You hadn’t realised you had been looking just past his shoulder for most of that monologue.
The only thing you did realise, was that Sirius was tall.
"If I kissed you right now, would you return it?"
You were overwhelmed. And, more importantly, starting to get hard. No.
But apparently, your subconscious decided to answer for you, and you nodded.
Sirius didn’t wait a second. He leaned in, practically attacking your mouth.
The kiss was rough, with teeth clashing at first. You supposed it was probably clumsy, but you didn’t have anything to compare it with.
You tried to mimic what Sirius was doing, and in a moment of daring (you were still a Gryffindor, after all), you bit his lower lip, eliciting a low groan from Sirius.
You usually learned best through practice, and kissing apparently wasn’t an exception. You became more confident with each second his lips moved with yours, and when you felt his tongue brush against your lower lip, you instinctively opened your mouth.
The tongue slipped in immediately, accompanied by a satisfied hum from Sirius. It was strange, the sensation of it in your mouth at first, against your own. But you quickly found yourself enjoying it, and the fact that his hands were now firmly on your waist, running up and down, certainly didn’t discourage you.
For someone who detested the very thought of being overpowered, you surprisingly enjoyed Sirius’ dominant position right now.
You rested your arms on his shoulders and started running your right hand through the hair on the back of his head, eliciting another groan, of satisfaction, you hoped.
You began to move your tongue along with his, and sooner than you realised, it became a battle. You were growing more and more eager to explore his mouth as well.
The fact that you were currently making out with your long-term crush was not lost on you, nor did it fail to make you even more aroused with each passing second. You had imagined a moment like this many times. In fact, you had imagined many other moments, and seeing how physical Sirius was, there was a big chance of them turning into memories or maybe, if you dared to think, regular occurrences.
In fact, you wouldn’t settle for anything less. You were not interested in becoming one of many in the long line of Sirius Black’s dalliances, as Remus liked to say sometimes.
And so, with great effort - both in actually willing yourself to do it, as well as managing against Sirius’ strength - you pulled away.
His eyes were half-lidded, pupils dilated, but a brow started to rise in question.
"I’m not ruining our friendship for a week of fun with you, Sirius," you said, still breathless, but it was clear you were being frank right now.
"I’m not either," he responded. "I want it to be more," he said.
"What are you saying?" you asked with a smirk, knowing very well what, but still wanting to hear it.
He rolled his eyes playfully. "And you complained about James’ flair for dramatics," he said, and immediately dropped to one knee and took your hand. "Y/N L/N, will you, the breathtaking vision of enchanting beauty, the enthralling light of brilliance, do me the honour of allowing me to become your partner in love and life?" he asked in an over-dramatic tone.
You laughed and said in the same manner, "Sirius Black, your words have melted my heart completely. I’d be thrilled to become your boyfriend."
He pretended to cry, followed by a quite amusing spectacle of pretending to die out of sheer joy, and then stood up, held you to him, and kissed you again, this time more tenderly. This kiss didn’t seem desperate but wasn’t chaste in any way either. You pulled him closer by his shirt, having your chests press together. He seemed very satisfied with it.
He was starting to pull your sweater off when the doors burst open with James in the front yet again, this time shrieking. Remus, who apparently joined him and Peter in the common room during your time alone with Sirius, said, "Turns out you were right, they were suffocating each other... Not in the way you predicted though," he added with a low chuckle.
Peter’s face was as red as a beet, and James just stared. After a while, he said, "I call you both my brothers, so it’s incest, you know. I’ll tell my mum."
"You’re just worried I’ll cut into your cuddle time with him," you said to James, receiving a laugh from Remus and a smirk from Sirius that contradicted his severe tone.
"He could never cut into that, Jamie, you don’t have to worry."
James decided to just shove him with a laugh as a response.

Vintage Drarry Fics
Thought I'd put together a list of some of the old Drarry 'classics' of my teenage years, for anyone interested. All posted between 2001-2006, compiled using my (bad) memory, a lot of googling, fanlore.org and numerous different LJ rec accounts (including the incredible @capiturecs). I checked as best I could, but if anyone knows of any fics that their author doesn't want to be shared, please let me know and I will of course remove.
Please also note that these fics are of their era, when attitudes may have been different, and they may not all be grammatically perfect. I haven't reread all, as my own tastes have changed, but most importantly do note that they may not be tagged - don't blame me when, for example, Harry dies tragically on a rooftop at sunrise...
Hogwarts Era (mostly 5th-7th year)
A Thousand Beautiful Things by Duinn Fionn/geoviki (M, 105k)
Draco Malfoy struggles with changed fortunes, shifted alliances, an ugly war, and an unusual spell, with the help of a concerned professor, an insightful house-elf, and an unexpected Gryffindor friend.

Artful Facade by Sky Sorceress (T, 66k)
Sometimes you fly too close to the sun and lose your wings. With sixth year approaching, the danger Harry seeks can be found only in the form of Draco Malfoy. What follows is a twist in the line between hatred, love, and need.
Beautiful World by Cinnamon/Lissadiane (M, 70k)

Beneath You by Cinnamon/Lissadiane (M, 113k)
Draco had no idea that the repercussions of stealing Potter's journal and shoving it down the back of his trousers would be so extreme.
Bond by AnnaFugazzi (M, 173k)
It seems 95% of H/D writers feel compelled to write a "Harry And Draco Are Forced To Be Together By Something Beyond Their Control And Then Unlikely Stuff Happens That Leads To Twoo Wuv" story. Count me among the 95% ;)
Checkmate by Naadi Moonfeather (T, 245k)
Draco has the perfect plan to get Harry Potter and challenges him to a game of Dare Chess. But is it love, or betrayal, he has in mind?
The Cicatrix Cycle by Ivy Blossom (NC-17, long!)
Three parts: Origins, Haven, Belong
Draco In Darkness by Plumeria (T, 41k)
Following an accident in his seventh year, Draco loses his eyesight. After Harry elbows his way into Draco's dark world, both boys find themselves in a strange new friendship, and they each learn new ways to see each other … and themselves.
Eclipse by PhoenixSong/Mijan (T, 287k)

Past, present and future collide as all must consider where their loyalties lie; who they are, and who they want to be. Amidst it all, Harry and Draco begin a dangerous journey of understanding. Is it possible to leave everything you thought you were behind?
Resolution by Frances Potter (R, 322k)
When you've spent six years fighting evil, all you really want is a quiet time. But when your name is Harry Potter the chances of that are very slim. A series of vignettes chronicling Harry's final six months at Hogwarts. Exams, friends, lovers, Quidditch, the war and Draco all conspire to make the year end seem a very long way away.

Halloween Costumes (Hayden x FemReader) *Headcanon*
Summary: A certain moose decides to help you celebrate your favorite night of the year right. By fulfilling one of your corniest horniest dreams.
Warnings: 18+ (mdni), because there sooo much of the smut. Lightsaber play, cute couple’s costume, bad puns, and, as always… Hayden’s big, fat dick.
Notes: Happy Kinktober all you, lovelies! 🖤🧡
*Cutesy Scary, SFW*
- Let’s start off with the fact that although Halloween might not be Hay’s absolute favorite holiday (to be fair, he’s more of Christmas man). But that won’t stop him from full-on embracing the spooky season, all for the sake of you. Because nothing make’s dadcula more happy than seeing his little witch get all giddy, smiley…not threatening to put the curse of the dry spell on him.
- The moment you suggest doing a certain ‘star-crossed lovers’ for your couple’s costume…the man is all over it. Finding and ordering you the best ‘aggressive negotiations senator’ dress he comes across, while pulling his own ‘fallen space wizard’ robes from storage. He’ll even go as far as letting that mullet grow out a bit, all because you said you want things to be more fangtastic.
- When the big day finally rolls around, you’re like a stupid teenager again. Sitting on the edge of your bed; legs swinging, giggling. Grinning at his reflection in the mirror; watching him meticulously put on each piece, ruffling his curls to fall just perfectly. Practically jumping his bones when he asks you so sweetly… “Mind helping an old Skyguy draw on his scar?”
- At the party, the two of you are pretty much inseparable. Being that sickeningly cute pair, who’s glued to one another. With you holding onto, pressed into his side. Nails scratching gently at his back, sending shivers down his spine. And Hayden with his arm lazily wrapped around your waist; big, gloved hand resting on your hip. Leather clad fingers giving your handle the occasional squeeze, sometimes slipping a bit lower when he thought no one was looking….causing you to let out some small ‘eeks’.
- Towards the end of the night, after one too many potions. He’ll press a kiss to your rosy cheek, ghost his lips over the shell of your ear…hot breath fanning, goosebumps forming and spreading across your skin. “What do you say? Head back to our haunted house, see if I can make you wail like a banshee?”
*Spooky Scary, NSFW*
- You can definitely feel all of those bubbly potions you downed working their magic. Hell fire burning your cheeks, pooling between your thighs. Making you hastily shed all those heavy layers, tossing them carelessly into a haphazard pile at the foot of your bed. Along with lowering your inhibitions, emboldening you…and him.
- Shoving you against the sheets; tugging at your waist, you obediently raise your hips. Hayden roughly yanks, rips those cute ghosty panties right off your booty. His groans, the soft clinks of his utility belt echo from behind. His long fingers slipping into your needy cunny, roughly and rapidly pumping three. Cool metal brushing your skin; running lazily, ominously up and down your leg. “Babe…babe? What are y-you-”
- “Ssssh, relax…” Pushing those dripping, soaked digits past your lips; forcing you to taste, gag slightly on your own sweet juices. While he prods, teases your clit with the cylindrical object. Sending jolts of pleasure through, body trembling and thrumming with anticipation. Trails of slick trickling out from your empty hole. “This is where the fun begins…”
- A loud whine mixed with a moan bubbles out from your throat as the tip of his lightsaber hilt sinks in, invades your heat. Gummy walls burn, struggle to stretch. The ruff, smooth texture of it scrapes…scratches. Tears of pain and pleasure form, sting at the corners of your eyes. As you suck weakly on his fingertips, reveling in the array of overwhelming sensations…basking in the way he praises you. “Look at you, all spread out for me. Taking my saber so well. Such a good ghoul.”
- Plunging further, thrusting faster. Your breaths grow shallower, come out in ragged gasps. Hips rock back unconsciously, nipples drag across the mattress. Seeking out more friction. Building and hurtling yourself closer and closer towards what was easily going to be a truly frightful orgasm. “Trick or Treat. Gimme something good to…” And right before you tip completely over the edge, he pulls the new toy from your depths.
- Strangled cry escapes you when his mouth meets your drenched folds. Big hands holding you open for him; devouring, lapping at your sensitive bud. Until you burst all over Hay’s tongue, mewling when he groans into your core. Deep voice rumbling, sending aftershocks through your spent form. “…eat.”

a humiliatingly long character analysis of lily evans
Someone sent me an ask that briefly mentioned how misunderstood Lily is, and before I knew it I was typing out this monster. I am. sorry. This is literally just me rambling about her, what I find compelling about her character, and why her character is so often misunderstood.
This is long as hell so I'm putting it under a read more lolol
Part of the reason I like Lily so much (other than my being ginger and projecting onto any redheaded female character I see) is that even though she isn’t explored as much as her other Marauders Era counterparts, we know enough about her to start building the framework for her character. And what I see is a girl who was incredibly interesting, kind, and flawed.
One thing I always think about in regards to Lily is that she was dealt with a pretty unfair hand. As soon as she receives her letter, she’s basically torn between two worlds, both of which have been less than welcome to her. On one hand, we have the muggle world that she’s known all her life, but once she starts integrating into the wizarding world, she likely feels a bit of a disconnect with that world. To twist the knife further, her sister- whom she loved dearly and grew up so close with- starts outwardly resenting her with such unbridled hostility that they likely couldn’t even be in a room alone together without major conflict.
On the other hand, we have the wizarding world– a world she’s not as familiar with and one she soon learns holds a demographic of people who hate everything she is and would rather see her excommunicated or even dead. And even though finding out you’re a witch/wizard is probably such an exciting and life-changing moment, I can’t help but also take note of the difficulties, especially if you’re the only one in your family with magic. You’re essentially uprooted from the only way of life you’ve known at an already complicated age, and now you have to quickly become acclimated to this new world that you only just found out existed. Not only that, but now you’re suddenly attending a school with classes that are primarily focused on this world of magic (which is still brand new to you), and you have to work extra hard to play catch up in order to do well. Like, that all seems like… a lot for a kid to handle.
And then I remember how young she was when she was thrown into that mess. She was only 11, and kids that age desperately crave any sense of belonging. I mean, that’s something that still holds true for adults, but it’s especially critical for a developing child. So imagine Lily, ages 11-15, struggling to stay afloat in this weird purgatory between these two parts of herself, both of which have been the cause for major and traumatic experiences relating to rejection in her life.
(I say it was the “cause” even though it’s obvious that those things were never her fault at all, but when you’re a young kid navigating the world, the only thing you’re able to process is that the common denominator is you, therefore you’re the one who must shoulder the blame.)
So now we have this tween-teenaged girl who has a dysfunctional relationship with two major parts of identity and probably feels absolutely lost.
This is why her hesitancy to end her friendship with Snape makes sense to me. Even though by fifth year he’s already well past toeing the line with the dark arts, Lily was willing to overlook some pretty egregious and troubling things in order to maintain the relationship. I kind of interpret that as her way of desperately clinging on to any sense of belonging she has left; her relationship with Petunia has already been poisoned, and now there are people who resent her existence as a witch; if she loses Severus too, what and who else does she have? And what tone does that set for her, if everyone and everything she’s come to hold close to her ends up turning her away?
It’s also important to note that not only is Severus one of her few remaining connections to the muggle world, but he’s also a wizard who grew up in the muggle world; he understands her, and I don’t doubt that he gave her some stability at times when she needed it (her finding out about her being a witch, her having trouble acclimating to the wizarding world, etc).
I see this as being one of her flaws and I can actually appreciate how relatable and realistic it feels. Lily is not a bad person; on the contrary, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone to describe her as such. Not to get all clinical and boring, but the interesting thing about (unhealthy) coping mechanisms is that it can actually be really hard to identify them in your own behavior. Unless you’re in therapy and/or are actively psychoanalyzing yourself, you likely don’t even realize how many of your common behaviors are born from self defense mechanisms put in place by your brain after past events.
To me, it makes sense why she avoided actually confronting the idea that Snape was too far gone. We know that she was aware of the path Severus was taking, but it almost seems like she was still convinced that she could save him, and could possibly steer him back in the right direction. It’s only when she becomes the target of his bigotry that she realizes that the Snape who called her a ‘mudblood’ was not the same Severus who was the one who held her hand and introduced her to this new, exciting world.

In a general sense, yes, it is selfish, to only take a stand when something starts affecting you personally. But I also think it’s important to note that it’s unlikely that this was a conscious decision on Lily’s part. In my eyes, it was easier to delude herself into thinking she still had a chance to save him before it was too late when she was able to separate him from his actions (considering, a lot of the time, she was only hearing about them after the fact, rather than seeing them firsthand). But the elusion is shattered once she sees that the Snape she grew up with– her friend, Severus– is, in fact, the same person who’s out there calling other students slurs, dismissing the malicious use of Dark Magic on others as just “a laugh”. There we see a Lily who is actually revealed to have been somewhat aware of Snape’s involvement with the darker side of magic, and genuinely feels pretty ashamed about her inaction.

That moment in SWM is probably somewhat of an epiphany to her. It’s like a dam that’s been broken, and now she’s overwhelmed with the realization of exactly how much she overlooked in order to keep their friendship afloat. And for someone like Lily Evans, someone whom we know is opinionated and unafraid to call others out on their bullshit, that can be hard to swallow and feel pretty mortifying and shameful. And I think this was a huge turning point for her- at that point, she doesn’t have the luxury of avoiding uncomfortable truths anymore and now that she’s getting closer to graduating and being thrown out into the world on the brink of war, this was probably a really sobering discovery.
This is where we don’t have as much info to go off of, and a lot of it is up to interpretation. But we actually have little crumbs to go off of following her graduation and leading up to her death.
One of my favorite little tidbits isn’t in the books, and @seriousbrat's post reminded me about it. Here's the actual entry on Pottermore for anyone who's interested, but I'll summarize: after James and Lily began dating, Lily brings James to meet newly engaged Petunia and Vernon. Everything goes downhill, because Vernon is a smarmy asshole, and James is still pretty immature and can’t help but mess with him (which… fair, I guess). Petunia and Vernon storm out after Petunia letting Lily know that she had no intentions of having her as a bridesmaid, which causes Lily to break down into tears. I mention this because I also think it’s a pretty important aspect of her character; like we’ve seen in her past friendship with Snape, Lily seems more than willing to forgive others most of the time. Petunia is a bit of a complicated character herself, but she was objectively very cruel and unfair to Lily once it became obvious that she was a witch and Petunia was not.
Something that always stands out to me is just how desperate Lily is to earn Petunia’s trust and approval again. Even up until her death, she was more than willing to mend the relationship, were Petunia ever to consider.
This is a detail about Lily that I feel is misunderstood quite a bit. I’ve seen a lot of instances of her character being reduced to a one-dimensional archetype with little to no complexity. And often, that archetype is “know-it-all, prudish, self righteous bookworm who is also a goody two-shoes with a stick up her ass”. What annoys me is that the reason for this is most definitely the scene in which she blows up at James in SWM for bullying Snape, and hurls quite a few insults at him directly after an extremely devastating and overwhelming situation for her. This frustrates me because we know for a fact that she’s the polar opposite of this archetype I’ve seen her reduced to.
In actuality, she’s referred to as popular, charming, witty, bright and kind. From flashbacks we also are shown that she’s opinionated, bold, and not afraid to challenge others. With other context, like her interpersonal relationships, we can also see that she’s pretty emotionally driven and wears her heart on her sleeve.
(I know Remus didn’t mention Lily much in the books, but I really love how he described her in the movies. He tells Harry that the first thing he noticed about him was not his striking resemblance to his father, but his eyes, the same eyes Lily had. He also calls her a “singularly gifted witch” and an “uncommonly kind woman”.
“She had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even and perhaps most especially, when that person could not see it in themselves.”
I know there are mixed feelings on whether or not the films count as canon source material, so take it with a grain of salt, but I personally cannot see a world in which Lily and Remus didn’t become close friends.)
Here we have a direct description of what she was like and who she was, corroborated by recounting of memories of her, and yet for some reason, this feels like the thing that is most commonly lost in translation.
I don’t think I can say why I think that is without mentioning the dreaded M word (misogyny- it’s misogyny), but I also don’t want to get too off topic so I’ll be brief: female characters are typically not given the same grace as male characters. When we have an undeveloped male character, he’s awarded the assumption that despite his lack of depth, there still exists a complex and multifaceted character– it’s merely just potential that hasn’t been tapped into. Whereas when we have underdeveloped female characters, they are taken at face value, meaning that not much exists beyond the little information we have of them. They are not presumed to have a life or a story that exists beyond the surface of what we know like male characters are. That’s why I think characters like Regulus, Evan, or Barty (just to name a few) are more popular than Lily, despite being less developed than she is.
(Before anyone gets defensive, no, I don’t think it’s an individual problem that you alone need to be shamed for. I think it’s the result of a deeper issue regarding misogyny in media as a concept; these are things that we’ve all unknowingly internalized and while it’s not our fault, we still have to do the work to deconstruct those learned prejudices.)
What I find really cool about her character is that despite how much she’s been hurt, she’s also still known as one of the most loving, kind, and considerate characters. There were so many times in her life where the love she received was conditional and ripped away from her– and I think that’s what makes her sacrifice even more poignant. She was able to protect her infant son from an extremely powerful dark wizard, wand-less, knowing that her husband was just murdered in cold blood, just from how much love she felt for Harry. Her love was a force of nature on its own, and I just think that’s such an amazing thing about her.
I know I’m biased, given that she’s one of my favorite characters, but even upon delving into this, I still just find it so incredibly hard to understand how anyone can actively hate her (not indifference, but actual dislike). In my opinion (again, no one is unbiased, and she is a favorite character of mine, but trust me when I say that I’m trying to be objective as possible when I say this), she’s probably one of the most likable characters of the Marauders Era. I think perhaps a lot of people haven’t given her a chance or really taken the time to learn about her character, but it could be a myriad of other reasons that I’ll never understand.
There's so much more I could say but this is long enough and I will stop myself
Lily Evans, u will always be famous to me
#lily evans#character analysis#harry potter#i am a little embarrassed that i got so invested in this. i hope at least one person enjoys this insane essay that no one asked for

S15 Round 1*
Found and long-lost (and doomed)
cw: manipulation, child death, spoilers
Lime is a teenage girl who just watched her older sister die horribly. Seeing how traumatized she is, everyone is quick to pity and comfort her. She gets along with everyone easily, but she forms a special bond with Key, a young man who turns out to be a shady, sketchy liar. Everyone is quick to accuse Key of manipulating Lime and try to get her away from him. But no matter what they say, she can't bring herself to think badly of him. Below Key's dark façade, he's hiding a pathetic weakness that he knows will be the death of him, and yet he genuinely cares for Lime and does his best to protect her.
Things come to a head when one or the other must die. They both insist on sacrificing themselves to protect the other. Lime insists that Key has more useful skills for the group's survival, and Key asks why would anyone send a teenager off to death?
Should Lime survive, she later learns that Key was her biological brother. She's much more hopeful now that she has two siblings watching over her.
Should Key survive instead, he is *furious* and wants to kill everyone. And that's before he finds out Lime was his sister.
Doomed Fairytale
The Knight and the Wizard are childhood friends, who grew up together in the same small village and were each other's first love. The Wizard's home life in particular was, putting it kindly, a mess, falling apart more and more by the day as he struggled to keep everyone together. The Knight did what he could to help his friend, and as they grew they became closer and closer, best friends and lovers in equal measure. But, nothing lasts forever, and they eventually parted on good terms when they realized they were meant for different paths--the Knight left to train with the sword, and the Wizard left to hone his magical prowess.
While they were apart from each other, the Knight flourished, finding great success and acclaim, while the Wizard floundered, struggling under the weight of his own failures and grief. They stayed in touch through letters, and the Knight watched his friend grow angrier and angrier, sadder and sadder, by the day. He feared where this path was taking his dear friend, and so eventually, he set out to speak with the Wizard and find a way to help him. Only, when they met again, the Wizard was far too lost in himself to see the concern as anything but pity, and he lashed out violently and angrily. The two fought, and both were left heartbroken. The Knight left, for good this time. Or so he told himself.
Less than a week later, the Wizard was dead. The news broke what was left in the Knight's heart, and he drowned in the sudden tide of guilt and grief--*it was all his fault.*
*Ship does not have to be romantic.

I assaulted @vellaphoria with the notion of how fun a sort of goofy Frog Princess situation with Dick would be. I needed to scratch the itch.
Tim dropped into a roll as a bolt of energy shot overhead. Somewhere above him, Nightwing was hanging onto a drain pipe, primed for a jump. Their assailant–a teenage girl in what looked like a navy uniform with a red bow at her white-collared neck–was firing wildly from a brass sceptre in the shape of a cobra. They'd been looking into an evening of sudden disappearances Downtown and found this delight.
"Hold still," she commanded, lifting her arm to fire off some shots at Dick as he leapt above her, spinning through the air to land just a metre or so behind her.
Providing a distraction, Tim sprinted towards the girl in a wide arc, calling, "What's that thing do anyway?"
"What?" She spun back towards Dick who had drawn his escrima sticks. They sparked in the damp air, lighting his face in a mask of pure menace. Tim pushed off his left leg, darting in the other direction to draw fire. They were closing in on her.
"I mean–eep!," Tim yelled as a shot flew by his ear. "I mean, is it like a blown to pieces situation or more of a 'hijinks ensue' type thing?"
She was unimpressed. "Hijinks? I'm a serious mage from one of the most reputa–"
"Hey, you ever think about what the difference is between a mage, and a wizard, a warlock and a witch?" Tim asked, narrowly avoiding another blast with some hip work he was rather proud of.
Her full lips pulled back into a snarl. "Doesn't he shut up?" she demanded of Dick.
Dick chuckled. "He's actually the quiet one."
Dick was within touching distance of her now. One jab of those sticks would put her out for the count. At least they hoped. As she turned, blonde hair whipping to target Tim again, Dick rushed her. In her haste to face him, she left her arm with the sceptre exposed. Tim caught it in an iron grip, grimacing as shot after shot was fired uselessly at the sky, just millimetres from his face.
"Nighty night," Dick said, pressing the stick to the girl's low back as she struggled like a wild thing. She folded immediately, eyes rolling up in her head. But, as Tim quickly observed, there were two issues.
One, her finger frozen with the charge to the sceptre's fire mechanism. And two, how she folded like a marionette at the knees, her back dropping down towards the grimy concrete and the sceptre firing directly over her head as Tim fell forwards on top of her.
"Ouch," Tim grumbled, rubbing at his eyes to get the motes of green-yellow light out of them. "You okay, Nightwing?" he asked as he rocked back on his haunches.
"Of course," Dick answered, voice cracking a little. Must have been the strain, or the weather. It was so miserably damp.
Tim nodded and leaned forward again to make a cursory check of the girl's pulse. All fine, of course. He glanced up finally. But where he expected to see Dick, there was only empty space. No, not empty. A Nightwing suit–one devoid of Nightwing. Ah. Mostly. There was something.
"Uh..."
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" asked Dick, who was, presently, a little green frog.
Tim didn't want to be speechless–he wanted to comfort Dick, naturally. He tried to telegraph as much to his mouth without success.
"Is it bad? It's bad, isn't it? You can be honest." The frog swallowed, its throat bubbling then deflating again.
"Hijinks ensue..." Tim muttered and dragged a hand down his face.

We talk so much about Sneep (all hail the Sneep) is very feminine, even from childhood - wearing his mother's clothes, fantasizing about his walking in his mother's magical path, making friends with primarily girls, having a soft voice, having very feminine handwriting, etc. A lot of people even headcanon Sneep as being transfem post-war. However, if Sneep were a cis girl, would she be super feminine or a tomboy? Sneep leans feminine, so would fem!Sneep love being feminine with heels and dresses and long hair? Or, would she long for the freedoms of a man after being raised by a lenient/absent father and an overbearing or abusive mother? And, if we flip the gender, would Eileen give fem!Sneep the standard order mommy issues? Would her friendship with male!Lily (Leon?) be different in terms of power balance?
I think fem!Snape would have struggled with the beauty standards of attractiveness in the same way canon!Snape did. She wouldn't have been super pretty (at least by Harry's standard at least if we take into account what he said about Severus's mother)(and I do think she would have looked like a carbon copy of her mother expect for her nose). Now I do think she would have tried to conform herself to some of these standards but found some compromises as well. I don't think she would have been hyper-fem since she wouldn't have felt comfortable embracing garnments that wouldn't suit her peculiar beauty and I don't think she'd have been super interested in fashion either because of that. Of course Lucius/Narcissa would have gifted her some exquisitely tailored dresses and robes but I think she'd never wear them as she'd struggle too much with her feminity.
Because of course she'd consider herself absolutely repelling as she'd have been teased endlessly about her nose and lack of curves. Which is bullshit as we know.
Now it's interesting to imagine fem!Sev as some sort of tomboy, especially because of her childhood in Cokeworth. I can imagine her teenage self with a ponytail, beating the shit out of some guy because he insulted her family. I can see her wearing worn out jeans and oversized shirts in the same way his male self is often pictured.
But in the wizarding world I think she'd fully embrace the feminine-cut robes, even if she'd still drown her thin silhouette under her cloak. I imagine her hiding her curves and frame in a cloud of black to the point of people wondering what she might actually look like. I'm just wondering how she would wear her hair. To me it's either they're super long and lanky (hi Sadako) or she'd wear it in a tight and severe bun like McGonagall (maybe with two large strands on each sides to still be able to hide behind it).
She wouldn't wear jewelry. Or maybe earrings gifted by the Malfoys (it's silver and black of course, and I'm imagining clip-ons and nothing that would dangle) or a family heirloom from her mother.
Of course she'd have mommy issues. Truth is we have no real idea what Snape's mommy issues are like, but I'd suspect maybe she'd have been even more determined to not repeat her mother's mistakes? Depending on why her parents got together, she'd maybe vow to not fall in love or absolutely never get pregnant and be terrified of a man tying her down. Maybe she'd have been a raging misandrist. I can imagine her as being ready to bite really fast when feeling threatened by a man and this would have been quite disastrous for her relationship with the Maraudeurs and Leon as well.
Speaking of Leon she could have seen him as 'the only nice guy' she ever met for a long time and by the time their fifth year comes around and their friendship is dwindling, she'd have to face the fact that no, Leon wasn't that nice. But maybe she'd be in denial about it as well. We could imagine romantic of platonic feelings but the outcome is the same.
I think she'd be still quite feminine coded but more open with her anger. She'd have developed a really tough skin in Cokeworth and somehow I see her as less soft-spoken than male!Snape. She'd be more openly angry at life, less controlled.
Also not to be too cliché but as a woman, I can't help but think that her hormones would indeed make her more prone to fits of anger and be more emotional ateast once a month.
She'd still manage to become a really impressive occlumens but it would maybe take her a bit more work. But she'd really need it to also not be pointed as being a hysterical harpy.
#i have more and more fondness for fem!snape#she would have been so much angrier#or maybe more open with her anger#somehow she's more vicious#she doesn't care about not fitting in with the girls as much where male!Snape was beaten up by patriarchy#severus snape#hp#snape fandom#pro severus snape#pro snape#severus snape fandom#snape community#anon ask#ask answered#snapedom#fem!Snape

I know it prob wouldnt make sense for them to meet but do you think if Aku from the Kage and Hikari au met Scaramouche they could hit it off?
(reference posts for anyone who missed this AU)
Not to spoil my plans for where the AU's gonna go, but circumstances do occur which could allow them to cross paths. And although I don't officially plan for them to meet, you bet I've thought about it. In like some AU of the AU.
Scaramouche is programmed to be unwaveringly, unquestioningly loyal to Aku—and as a side effect of this programming he's also absolutely delighted to be around Aku.
Scaramouche is not programmed to categorize different Akus as different people or to only apply his loyalty programming to his Aku. His programmers didn't really expect more than one Aku to be walking around at one time.
If he meets Kage, as far as he's concerned, that's his boss. Like, he knows and understands that this is a different Aku—from the past or from a parallel universe or something—but he just isn't designed to care. A different Aku is an Aku. This one gets equal loyalty. If the Akus ever give him contradictory orders he'll sort it out then, until then he doesn't care.
So: here's Kage, a teenage version of Aku that's spent his whole life wearing a human mask because nobody wants to see his true face, struggling to shrink his shape and personality to fit in with humans, and when he discovers his "as far as I can go" is only 90% of the way to humanity's "good enough" he's treated with frustration and avoidance. The only person who's consistently happy to see him is his brother. He grew up nearly friendless.
And suddenly this knight of shining armor waltzes up and enthusiastically goes "I didn't know you were here! Man it is good to see you out of the fortress, babe!! What's with the human getup? Don't I get to see Tall Dark & Handsome in his full glory?"
Within five minutes he's learned this guy is a "robot," which is some kind of demon made out of metal, created by humans with wires, lightning, and rituals written inside his body (very similar to Kage: a demon made out of wood, created by humans with arrows, fire, and a ritual prayer); like Kage, he's also a wizard; he's basically a samurai (he serves a shogun and he fights with swords!); his job is to kill anybody his master wants, a job he performs with great pleasure and skill and no moral qualms; and by the way his master is Kage; and by the way he really is that delighted to see Kage.
Kage's neck deep in teenage first crush puppy love before he's even figured out how to pronounce Scary-Mushi's name.
#(hikari: 'why is his name Scary Bug?' kage‚ confidently: 'he's european')#anonymous#ask#kage and hikari au#scaraku

i get so overwhelmed whenever i think about how complex of a character severus snape is
this is basically my thought process when thinking about his character:
wow he spends his whole adult life bullying children that’s sad
well it’s only to make up for the fact that he has nobody else that loves him, and the only person that did died years ago and stopped caring for him even more years ago. and the worst part is he has to see her through her son everyday.
okay but he’s like 40, adults should be responsible and considerate with their actions despite any of their struggles
yeah well it’s probably cuz he was bullied by the kid’s dad for all of his teenage years. and he was in love with the kid’s mom. so his bestfriend and old crush ended up having a kid with his bully. why wouldn’t you hate the kid?
okay nope stop right there, it’s technically his fault. nobody asked him to get involved in the pureblood supremacy business, did you expect her to fall into your arms when you called her a mudblood? ofc she goes running to the man who actually tries to change yourself. meanwhile what are you doing? you’ve barely changed. you’re still high on that power that voldemort’s little cult gave you.
no no wait he did try to change! he was one of the most important factors leading to the second wizarding war’s victorious end. he was a double agent! he did have a change of heart
no he didn’t. he only did that for lily
yeah, for love!
no, for his obsession. like i said he was STILL high on whatever powder he could scramble from voldemort’s feet in his lonely bitter adult years, but his obsession for lily — i refuse to say love because love is not accepting ideologies that discriminate against that person — was just stronger. he’s completely unhealthy
well yeah of course he’s unhealthy!!! he grew up in an abusive household and was bullied just for existing.
yeah, true. i don’t know man edit: by the way this wasn't like an invitation for arguments i was only braindumping while half-asleep, i dont really care if there are inconsistencies or mistakes 😭 but if it lets you get out your deeper thoughts, i'm glad

IMAGINE Human Turned Vampire Shoto Todoroki
Takes place at the university level; there is some lore about him. Here is some lore of the University, it is open ended though.
Here is Ghost Izuku, and Werewolf!Katsuki
Word Count: 680+
Human! Shouto comes from an interesting, complicated family. He wasn't always a vampire. He was human, just like everyone in the world, along with his siblings. In short, his mother's vampire genetics were dormant growing up just like the rest of his siblings.
Human! Shouto grew up in a town filled with monsters seeking refuge, trying to hide away from his father. It was a town where supernatural creatures resided and protected each other. His father was a human wizard who was obsessed with creating powerful beings. He almost killed Touya when he was a teenager.
Human! Shouto has a vampirism virus running through his veins. The only way to awaken that virus is by dying. However, his body is already acting as if he is a full-fledged vampire; his body craves drinking blood.
Human! Shouto and his siblings would have to resort to drinking a special drink created by a witch to make it more manageable. It satisfies the hunger for blood. They would also have the same struggles that vampires would, like being deathly allergic to real silver and not being able to be around certain flowers.
Human! Shouto remained human until he turned 20 years old. On his birthday, he turned into a vampire due to a fatal mistake made by a hunter who was following him and his group of friends. The hunter was truly aiming at one of Shoto's friends but missed fatally injuring Shoto.
Vampire! Shouto surprisingly adjusted to being a vampire very well and quickly since he has been taught self-restraint since he was a toddler. He keeps his new fangs to himself and buys blood bags along with the special drink from the local witch shop near campus.
Vampire! Shouto wasn't expecting to fall in love with you, his classmate who is considered to be Normie at Arcane University. A human who doesn't know anything about the supernatural. It was one of the transfer students that Arcane University had to let in to avoid suspicion from the government.
Vampire! Shouto feels like he is human again around you. He gets that weird sensation in his gut whenever he is around you, especially when you are smiling and laughing.
Vampire! Shouto guards his water bottle that has human blood with his life depending on it. He subconsciously places it beside him and away from your reach. It became a habit when he started dating you.
Vampire! Shouto had to leave abruptly during your first makeout session with you in your dorm room. His fangs popped out and cut your lip by accident. He was too relaxed and excited all at the same time. His fangs just popped out. He was also overdue to get some human blood in his system.
Vampire! Shouto's actions made you believe that he was scared of blood, but it was far from the truth. He liked your blood. If a vampire finds someone attractive, their blood is much sweeter to them. The way he left in the dormroom so fast that he had left his wallet and keys.
Vampire! Shouto felt a certain way at the sight of you dressing up as a vampire in the modern age for Halloween.
Vampire! Shouto was terrifying in the hide and seek game. He makes people scream in terror, feeling him hanging upside from the balcony with glowing eyes in the plain darkness of the night. It was the glowing eyes in the dark that looked terrifying. He is a monster of the night.
Vampire! Shouto is a monster of the night. He was using this game to let out that pin-up predator drive of hunting down prey. It explains why his eyes were glowing so menacing, making people feel trapped and small. That night was the birth of the rumors about him being some sort of demon.
Bonus:
Your words were playing on repeat in his mind for the rest of the night that you found him handsome with fangs and all. You were flustered at him when he smiled or smirked throughout the night.
It was attractive—unknowingly, it was his real fangs.
Please feel free to ask me anything to request anything within this universe. I am sucker to supernatural au.
Next: Vampire! Touya

Severus's life if Tobias was an actual decent father and husband headcanons
When he finds out that Eileen and Severus are wizards, he takes a minute to take in the information (i feel like he is more the religious type) and even goes to church.
At first, he was angry that his own wife would hide that from him, but after much time and talking with a reasonable, open-minded, understanding priest, he went home and he and Eileen had a long talk.
He is a hard worker at the factory. He goes to work early but comes home late, and Eileen always makes him breakfast, lunch, and dinner and barely drinks but still drinks every now and then.
After Eileen told Tobias everything, he told her to educate him on the Wizarding world so he could have a better grasp of it.
After Tobias was educated on the Wizarding world, he did not like how relationships like his and Eileen's were looked down upon, which made him worried for Severus, especially when he got accepted into Hogwarts.
Severus still wears hand me downs but he does get some new clothes since they don't have a lot of money.
Tobias would be that husband and father that would glare or yell at someone who gave them looks or said/whispered something about them.
Tobias would not be afraid to fight somebody, magic or not. (YOU DO NOT MESS WITH THIS MAN'S FAMILY)
Whenever Severus comes back and he is acting different, he notices. He knows what being bullied looks like, and he talks with Severus about it
Tobias teaches Severus how to defend himself and shows him a couple of moves he learned in the military (the man obviously served)
Eileen would be more involved in Severus's life instead of being afraid.
When the "prank" happened, they immediately found out and gave Dumbledore h3ll for this. And they immediately pull Severus from hogwarts (but not before Tobias is about to give the marauders an old school a$$-whooping)
Eileen and Tobias transferred him to Durmstrang, where they kept a close eye on him (they are helicopter parents now, and u can't tell me otherwise)
Severus obviously noticed the struggle that his parents were facing, not just prejudice but the money struggle. So, growing up, he would always help his mom around the house, help cook and clean, and even sell some potions here and there. (He sells his potions to Tobias's work buddies)
Severus gives his dad potions to help his health and even casts a few spells on him to help him at work (Tobias even after all these years is still not used to it but is impressed by his son's brain)
When Severus graduated, a lot of potion masters wanted him, but he knew he couldn't afford it. So his parents both worked to scrounge him enough money to pay for his apprenticeship (severus helped, he's not letting his parents do all the work)
Severus's summer job as a teenager was helping out at either his father's factory or working at a bar
When Severus came out that he liked both girls and boys, both his parents weren't surprised. They found out a looooong time ago and had their time to process it. And they learned to accept him and his Sexuality in their own way.
Severus is a potion master, has his own apothecary, and his parents couldn't be prouder. He also has a medical and chemist degree. (So if anyone needs a doctor, he's your guy)
When Eileen passed away, Tobias was distant from Severus, but eventually, he learned to be close with his own son again for his wife's sake.
Tobias and severus visit Eileen's grave every year on her birthday.
After Tobias passed, Severus visits their grave in his free time just to talk to them and tell them about his life.
Severus is happier, calmer, and less depressed but still our favorite Sarcastic sharptounged Slytherin
He wouldn't join the deatheaters unless they threatened his parents. He would protect them with his life
Hope you guys love this little headcanons. Enjoy

Hi, Im not sure if youve written anything about this before (I had a quick look but couldnt see anything), but I find Hermione's relationship with her parents kinda interesting. Obviously they're pretty chill with her being a witch — they go to diagon with her at least once and seem quite interested in that sort of thing, they're obviously very proud of her — but by about gof and ootf theyre completely absent from her life. Hermione doesnt seem to go home during that summer holiday and seems to spend the rest with the Weasleys which I find incredibly odd. Her parents were obviously not abusive, nor were they in any sort of danger until dh when Hermione goes on the run (and of course she oblivates them and moves them to Australia first). Voldemort doesnt even make any attacks until hbp because hes lying low. I just cant think why shes suddenly estranged from her parents to the point where they allow their only teenage daughter, who already spends majority of her time in Scotland, to spend her holidays with a family thats already financially struggling?? Surely no actual parent would do that. Of course it could be lazy writing by JK or the rising popularity of Hermione after directorial choices in the films which called for more page-time, but Id be very interested to hear your opinions on the topic because for the life of me I can't figure this out.
(sorry for the long ask)
Hi, no problem about the long ask.
I think Hermione's parents are probably one of the things JKR didn't think through, but I like looking at things like that froma an in universe prespective. And in universe the relationship between Hermione and her parents, while not abusive, has been estranged from day 0.
What I mean by it, is that I don't think Hermione was ever very close to her parents. We see how a muggleborn who is close to his parents acts with Colin Creevey:
“So I can prove I’ve met you,” said Colin Creevey eagerly, edging further forward. “I know all about you. Everyone’s told me. About how you survived when You-Know-Who tried to kill you and how he disappeared and everything and how you’ve still got a lightning scar on your forehead” (his eyes raked Harry’s hairline) “and a boy in my dormitory said if I develop the film in the right potion, the pictures’ll move.” Colin drew a great shuddering breath of excitement and said, “It’s amazing here, isn’t it? I never knew all the odd stuff I could do was magic till I got the letter from Hogwarts. My dad’s a milkman, he couldn’t believe it either. So I’m taking loads of pictures to send home to him. And it’d be really good if I had one of you” — he looked imploringly at Harry
(CoS)
He tries to keep his muggle parents up to date with his life in the wizarding world. He brought a camera explicitly for that purpose. Hermione, on the other hand, never really included her parents in her life. They try to be supportive, they go with her to Diagon, but I'm convinced they know very little of what's going on at Hogwarts with their daughter.
I mean, she probably tells them about her high grades and about Harry and Ron, but she probably never told them about Voldemort, or at least, not much. Or about the bigotry she has to deal with as a muggleborn. I'm also pretty sure she didn't tell them how dangerous Hogwarts is or that she got petrified in 2nd year. I mean, I don't know about you, but if my daughter told me everything that happened to Hermione, I would start asking about alternative magical education that isn't Hogwarts.
I think Hermione was always a lonely child, her parents were likely at work or conventions more often than with her and she is used to hiding things from them. Hermione 100% used to be bullied in her muggle primary school, you see it in how she acts, and I think she didn't tell her parents about that either. So Hermione and her parents were never close in my opinion.
And then, you take this girl who is used to hiding the less pleasant aspects of her life from her parents and send her to the wizarding world. And she's smart, she quickly realizes no one wants to hear about dentists and that she doesn't belong. So she shuts up, she stops bringing her parents up since everyone thinks surgeons are just maniacs who cut into people. So she reads up, she studies everything she can so she would belong, because she never found herself in the muggle world and she loves magic. She loves the wizarding world and chooses to be part of it, even at the price of cutting her parents out of her life.
In first year, Hermione goes back home for Christmas, but from year 2 and onwards she stays at Hogwarts becouse she doesn't want to miss out in that year's mystery, or time with Ron and Harry. She, like Harry, doesn't want to leave the wizarding world for a world they consider worse.
And the fact she does her best to spend more and more time in the wizarding world is an extension of that. It's not that she hates her parents, she loves them, but she loves them less than she loves the wizarding world.
I think, the moment in book 4 in which she took the chance to fix her teeth magically against what her dentist parents would think is right, is a moment that shows that clear choice. Mr. and Mrs. Granger clearly care about Hermione and want what's best for her, but Hermione thinks she is better than them because she is a witch. She treats her parents like children who don't know what's good for them. She knows because she's a witch, so she can send them away for their safety. They might think using magic on her teeth is dangerous, but they're muggles they don't know better. Even Hermione falls into this prevalent mindset among wizards that they know better than muggles.
The Creevy brothers wanted to keep both the wizarding world and their parents. Hermione chose the wizarding world. She figured that if she truly wanted to belong and be up to date with everything, months in the muggle world would make this assimilation harder, so she stayed in the wizarding world. And when the time comes to make a hard decision to Obliviate her parents and send them away, it is easier to rationalize. She hasn't been part of their life for so long anyway, they would hardly notice the difference, besides, she's the witch, she's the one in the know, not them.
It's quite sad, but it's a result of Hermione's decision to assimilate into the wizarding world as if she was always there which is, I think, influenced by the bigotry that is everywhere. I mean, even the Weasleys look down on muggles:
“Are they doctors?” he [Harry] asked Ron quietly. “Doctors?” said Ron, looking startled. “Those Muggle nutters that cut people up? Nah, they’re Healers.”
(OotP)
So, yeah, Hermione chose to be a witch, and to her, that means cutting her parents she was never too close to out of her life.
