Happy to share, ARTEMIS is now published at NAR!
https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkae758
ARTEMIS is a new tool for RNA/DNA 3D structure superposition and structure-based sequence alignment. Our benchmarks show that it outperforms the existing tools for both sequentially-ordered and topology-independent alignment.
ARTEMIS allowed us to identify an intriguing structural similarity between Lysine and M-box riboswitches (see the figure) and to describe the minor-groove/minor-groove helical packing motif. ARTEMIS is the first tool able to report several alternative superpositions, which makes it suitable for structural motif identification tasks.
ARTEMIS is available at GitHub: https://github.com/david-bogdan-r/ARTEMIS
Thanks to Davyd Bohdan, Janusz Bujnicki, & International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw!

trying to read a fiction workshop book that’s required for my creative writing class, but I disagree with some of the author’s advice so harshly that I find myself frustrated/struggling to consider the rest of his advice.
Idk. He’s saying that if you’re lacking inspiration, then listen to OTHER PEOPLES’ orally told stories and… write those ???? And not even like, draw inspiration from them. Just full on write them. Put them into another story (I guess so he has his own words surrounding it ??) and draw some deeper meaning I guess?? What the fuck are you saying man. Don’t do that.

tere are lots of mysteries where the audience knows ewho did it from the beginning. most columbo episodes worjk this way
so i have literally written whole paragraphs at this point about how:
a) discussions of genre will often use words in a very specific way, but not everyone will adhere to this usage.
b) genre itself is a fiddly thing - in my last post or two I've been discussing the formation and formalisation of the Detective Mystery in the 20th century as a format for written fiction.
It shouldn't be surprising if, over 50 years later, modern examples of/homages to the genre are innovating and drawing from other (sub)genres (in this case, imo, Noir).
You would expect that, but it doesn't change that (i) the archetypical Cosy Detective Story is something you can point to, that has a given structure, or that (ii) in discussion of Crime subgenres, 'Mystery' often specifically refers to stories that have a specific structure. I've outlined this usage in detail by now I think. It's a 'Mystery' because you are supposed to be trying to figure out the answer. In this context, it doesn't make sense to say "ah, but Columbo is a Mystery, and it doesn't have that format!" because what you are saying, tautologically, is that (that episode of) Columbo is not a Mystery.
Some people might describe Columbo as a "mystery" because (as I understand it; I don't watch it myself) it shares a lot of thematic ground with Detective Mystery/Murder Mystery/Cosy crime fiction. Sharing a lot of thematic ground with and appealing to fans of Cosy detective stories while not precisely replicating the Detective Mystery format in every single episode is a pretty common way to be for a crime procedural. My understanding via osmosis of Columbo suggests that 'crime procedural' is the correct classification of Columbo.

Ditw also shows that back then grisha and humans were infinitely more divided than during the trilogy. Heck grisha were even divided amongst themselves. It was a dog eat dog and every man for himself world.
yeah fair enough! I actually got a copy of ditw as a gift today so I'll be able to talk about this with more accuracy soon, but again it comes down to time and changing social attitudes
I don't doubt that there was severe prejudice against grisha in the past! I also don't doubt that there is prejudice against grisha in the time of canon!
however if the prejudice was as severe as you're describing, then grishas' situation clearly seems to have improved over time

I'm looking for that data if anyone has good references, I would love to do a data science project on this, rigorously answering the question, do more medical errors occur later in the personnel's shift?
I've always said this too, and one of the many reasons given is that there's just such a shortage of workers that they need to have these practices; yet my question is, don't those practices scare away most workers?!?
I mean, let's imagine a boss who physically bleeds his workers until they almost pass out as part of their job, and the boss laments, "Well there's a worker shortage! So if I don't take extra blood from my existing workers, I won't have enough blood at all!" Like bro, did you know that most people are looking for work? There are so many people fucking looking for work, it's really more that you don't want to train them and you don't want to provide safe working conditions but you DO want to bleed them dry until they pass out on the job with someone's life in their hands, that's why 99% of people don't want to work in the medical field, the training is privatized and madly overpriced and then they make you work insane hours for like 90 hour weeks, and you can still save more lives as AN INVENTOR than you can AS A DOCTOR because we're literally living in MIDIEVAL times compared to where we will be within the next 5 decades, trust me on this and I am leading the charge to innovate and extend life expectancy.
Fucking hell why are we making people in hospitals who are responsible for the health and wellbeing of everyone work 12 hour shifts with no breaks I feel like I'm going insane does no one else see the problem here??

The four golden threads that weave through ecosystem design
I closed out my posts in 2023 reflecting on the “golden” threads that need to weave through innovation business ecosystems. So equally I share these four threads here again as they are so important to Business Ecosystem thinking and design going forward. I raised the ecosystem thinking and design story ““At the heart of this story lies the understanding that innovation is NEVER a solitary…
