#text post#idc what others might think#but college is not ALWAYS the end all be all#i know so many people irl close to me who dropped outta college#they just didnt find school to be productive and had little to no benefits for them and what they really wanted to do#they dropped out and started their own careers and businesses#the sorta jobs they wanted to do generally didnt require any form of higher education like a spoecialized college degree#or they just joined their already established family business and are doing just fine#ive wantched and listened to lots and looots of other professional artists viewpoints about art school#it really is a 50/50 thing#if u find it enjoyable and beneficial for your situation then go for it#but if u know you can grow faster in your career and skills learning on your own then you dont really need art school#i think one of the big differences in being a college dropout and being successful#is really just being self disciplined and smart with what you want to do#ig this is a rant lol#but yeah#it all boils down to personal situation#i want to live independently asap#and sadly where i live#having a college degree is a huge advantage in getting local job positions that need specialized skillsets

The kids aren't alright. The kids aren't alright at all. And the worst part is that no one cares.
#narky thinks#almost everyone in a higher position in children's education are there solely to benefit themselves and push what they think is right#and a lot of parents don't really care about the value of education and actually raising their kids#i'm not parroting what i've heard i'm SEEING IT WITH MY OWN EYES#and the kids always get the short end of the stick because it's not like they can advocate for themselves as no one takes them seriously#i fear for the state of things come a decade or two#that is if it doesn't go to shit sooner

assuming that the boomers, en masse, have some wealth as they establish their estate planning, do you bet that a fair amount will look at how many years left and look at their money and in their quest to mentally deal with death, spend a fair bit on their education in their days of retirement?
#i'm just saying. there's a whole bunch of supposedly “liberal arts” schools that are getting turned into machines for education premed#and business educations#in a constant search to desperately appeal to the Consumer.#what if they could appeal to another Consumer with money and leisure time?#you could probably save on having to equip your dorms + gymnasiums with better and better features#and manage to get similar consumer satisfaction by having higher touch academic advisors as a “campus liasion” type situation#hell you could even say that it's a benefit to the bachelors students for the intergenerational knowledge transfer facilitation#(that's got enough syllables right?)

I’m tired of my coworkers not finishing the work they promised and leaving the team scrambling to create curriculum last minute I’m tired of doing the brunt of the work for three different courses when my coworkers are only teaching the one course I’m tired of my coworkers using the work I created and the data I compiled on their gradwork that’ll justify an increase in their pay when I get no pay increases for my own work I’m tired of the workload I’m tired of the hypocrisy I’m tired of the lack of compensation I’m tired of the burnout of education
#personal#why would anyone stay in public education at this point#it’s crushing me#i wish the students were the only stressors#it makes sense when a teenager doesn’t have their shit together#why do i gotta run disaster relief for my coworkers who have higher degrees and get paid more than i do#why do i gotta pay a bunch of money and sacrifice two years of free time to earn comparable pay when my work is so much better#why my coworkers get a masters and get worse at their job like?????#please just finish creating an assignment when you say you’re gonna do it#i can’t very well stare at my students and admit that the test grade assignment our team was supposed to share didn’t get done#i hate making shit up on the spot and watching all the flaws show as the kids try to complete the work#i can’t stay in this field#too much work for no money#and people keep leaving me looking like a fool in front an entire classroom of kids#or scrambling to do work on the weekends like any pay or benefits here justify that kind of overtime#godDAMN

How UK University Rankings Are Calculated: The Effect of Internationalization 🌍
In an increasingly globalized world, universities are not just judged by their academic reputation and teaching quality—they are also evaluated on how well they embrace internationalization. 🌎 This includes attracting international students, building global collaborations, and fostering cultural diversity. Wondering how these factors influence rankings? Explore the full breakdown here: How UK University Rankings Are Calculated.
For students considering UK universities, understanding the role of internationalization can help you make more informed choices. Let’s dive into how internationalization impacts rankings and why it matters to you.
Why Internationalization Matters in University Rankings
Internationalization isn’t just a buzzword—it's a core element in how universities are evaluated. Ranking agencies like Times Higher Education (THE), QS, and others incorporate internationalization metrics to assess a university's global influence.
Here’s why it matters:
Diversity: A diverse student body enhances the learning environment, fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Global Collaborations: Partnerships with international institutions boost research impact and visibility.
Employability: Graduates from globally connected universities are often more appealing to employers.
💡 Did You Know? Some UK universities have over 50% of their student population from outside the UK!
How Internationalization Impacts Rankings
1. International Student Enrollment
Ranking providers assess the percentage of international students as a measure of diversity. A higher percentage indicates:
Global appeal of the institution.
A culturally rich campus environment.
Example: Universities like University College London (UCL) and Imperial College London rank highly due to their large international student communities.
2. Global Collaborations and Partnerships
Collaborations with international universities, industries, and research institutions add significant weight to rankings. These partnerships result in:
High-quality joint research publications.
Opportunities for student exchange programs.
Enhanced international reputation.
Example: The University of Oxford’s partnerships with top universities in the US and Europe boost its research output and global visibility.
3. International Faculty
Universities with a globally diverse teaching staff often rank higher. Why? Because:
International faculty bring diverse perspectives to the classroom.
They often attract international students and research opportunities.
Example: London School of Economics (LSE) consistently ranks high in international outlook due to its globally recruited faculty.
4. Cultural Diversity on Campus
A culturally diverse campus environment enhances the student experience by:
Encouraging collaboration among students from different backgrounds.
Providing exposure to various cultural perspectives.
Ranking agencies like QS and THE consider cultural diversity as part of their “International Outlook” metric.
5. Research with Global Impact
Research that addresses global challenges—such as climate change, public health, and technology—often garners international recognition. Ranking agencies evaluate:
The volume of internationally co-authored papers.
Research collaborations with global institutions.
Example: The University of Cambridge excels in international research due to its collaborations with institutions worldwide.
The Benefits of Internationalization for Students
For students, internationalization means more than just better rankings. Here’s why it’s crucial:
Broader Perspective: Studying with peers from around the world fosters global thinking.
Enhanced Career Opportunities: Employers value graduates who can work in diverse teams and environments.
Exchange Programs: Opportunities to study abroad at partner institutions enrich the academic journey.
💡 Pro Tip: Look for universities with a strong international reputation if you plan to work globally after graduation.
How UK University Rankings Are Calculated with Internationalization in Mind
Universities striving to improve their rankings often invest in:
Scholarships for international students.
Initiatives to hire global faculty.
Programs that encourage international research partnerships.
Learn more about these efforts in our detailed blog: How UK University Rankings Are Calculated.
Final Thoughts 🌟
Internationalization is more than just a ranking factor—it’s a reflection of a university’s global influence and commitment to diversity. For students, choosing a university that values internationalization can open doors to unparalleled opportunities.
When selecting a university, remember to consider its international outlook alongside other factors. After all, studying in a globally connected environment could be the key to your future success! 😊

Decides to go on a semester abroad > has to decide on courses to follow > decides to follow a language course because it sounds like easy credits + useful to learn things on the society of the place > what do you know, this language is fun and not so difficult and I'm doing well at it > comes back and keeps at it > needs reading practice > switches phone settings to the language > gets recommended news in that language > is now invested and vaguely up to date with the things going on in academia from that country
#bro I don't think I even know this much about the Italian situation wrt higher education and research 💀#my post#These help with my reading comprehension and the course I follow at uni helps with the listening+speaking part :3#Once again shoutout to German guy I met abroad. Others would tell him 'wow you learnt so much in so little time that's impressive'#And he was like 'thanks. But it's not that hard tbh'. Upon which I was like 'I want to be able to do that too'#And so I did ta-da. I do believe this language is learnable at a decent+useable level in around a year#+ I think at this point I'd benefit incredibly from immersion alone tbh#It'd be incredibly tiring and overwhelming for a while but it'd do wonders I think :)

stupidest dilemma ever but if i even manage to graduate at the end of this year, do i go for one year at a preparatory course that'd be really good for work ethic and all the stuff i really struggle with, but 1) makes me stay in my hometown (which means, at my parents' place) for one more year and 2) makes me effectively lose a year of tertiary education bc no way in hell i'm starting out in year 2 of a licence afterwards, or do i immediately go for the three year cursus i'm aiming for, in a different city, but missing out a very needed crash course in organization and discipline and all related stuff.
#pros of preparatory class: will be with a friend from high school. excellent on the resume. sounds fun to work so much.#cons: unsure it's actually like objectively good for me. it's in my hometown. makes studies a year longer. might crash and burn idk.#I DONT KNOW#is six years of higher education a reasonable time?#it feels wasted it feels so wasted i can't be wasting my parents money for a degree for such a bullshit job right#im too weakwilled for healthcare and not math-proficient enough for any kind of engineering#whats left#the trades? im scared and also realistically i'm assuming as long as they've got a supply of people who followed the high school cursus#theyre not just going to accept any random 20yo with no prior training#or i do go for some bullshit job in linguistics which im barely smart enough for anyway#and i waste my parents money on a degree that only ever benefits ME#broadcasting my misery#vent
