@ all the Muslims/people who grew up Muslim on tumblr
for non-Muslims who think we're freaking weird, you probably know that pigs and pork are taboo and unclean in Islam. While this really just means it's haram to eat, it also means it's prohibited to call someone else a pig/swine/other such derogatory term. Which is 100% justifiable and I get it. Why would you call someone that in any normal situation, that's rude even if you're not Muslim.
Some families would take it even further and insist you shouldn't watch things involving pigs, such as the kids' show Peppa Pig, even if it's totally neutral. In some cultures, even saying the word is considered taboo altogether. imo that's kind of overkill, because in Islam you definitely don't have to like. deny the existence of pigs, although plenty of very reserved families might act as such.

Remember this shit?
NOT ONLY DID THEY FUCKING FORCE A CHILD INTO AN OFFENCE AND INTO EXTREMISM THEY PUSHED THE TRIALS FORWARD UNTIL HE WAS 14 SO THEY COULD TRY HIM
Fleming found the JCTT also deliberately delayed charging Thomas with offences until after he turned 14, as it made it harder for him to use the defence of doli incapax, which refers to the concept that a child is not criminally responsible for their actions.
THEY LITERALLY GOT HIM TO TALK TO ACTUAL MUSLIMS AND LEARN ABOUT ISLAM IN A HEALTHY WAY WHICH WASN'T FUCKED UP EXTREMISM SO IT LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO HELP HIM
AND THEN THEY FUCKING CREATED ONLINE PERSONAS WHO TOLD HIM TO MAKE A BOMB AND BASICALLY GROOMED HIM
ACAB
PIGS ARE HARAM
FUCK THE POLICE

Save what can be saved: Day 10/48
Hey!
Histology. I've always found histology too detailed and boring, but only after my clinical rotations that I came to realize how important it is. Histology is the basis of medicine.
I didn't finish it yet but hopefully tomorrow? We will see..

November 19, 2022 - Saturday
After a year and some change I’m almost done reciting the qur’an. Reaching halfway thru the 28th juz feels like when you finally make a turn and start recognizing the roads to your house. There’s ayahs stored in brain pathways that haven’t fired for years now, crackling into life as I recite. I remember 7th grade and my friends and with each verse if I close my eyes it feels like I’m at my desk, hurriedly trying to memorize ayahs as the teacher tests another student. ‘Maybe the class will end before it’s our turn,’ I hear, followed by some stifled giggles. It feels like a different life. Like it’s someone else’s memories. And yet if I close my eyes my lips keep moving, reciting the rest of the ayahs, drawing knowledge and memories with it from deep inside a forgotten well.

Hey can I ask jumblr and muslimbr a question? Given our shared Levantine origin, what's the preferred term to refer to people who live in a desert region? I've heard "desert dwellers" but that to me doesn't seem extremely polite, and "desert inhabitants" feels a bit too "BBC Nature".
(context: I was explaining to a friend how turbans became associated with Muslims even though they're more traditionally Sikh because traditionally desert cultures wore them for sun protection)

A lot of information in this minute, long video on the current Gaza – Israel war, but the one thing that startled me is that hamas is beheading IDF soldiers taken hostage. In case you didn’t know, Turkey and Israel have mandatory military service (I think it’s for national unity among other reasons). So these idf soldiers that hamas is beheading are just random citizens that are doing their compulsory military service in some cases.

I am coming to the realization that I really need to read the Bible in order to understand, like, anything about Western literature, because my surface level [creation>exile>Haggadah>wandering>Sinai>Lot at some point>New Testament (Rashamon)>some weird shit about Nero nobody cares about] understanding isn't really going to cut it.
...where do I get an Audiobook of the Bible? Does such a thing exist for free? I'm looking for the Five Books+Four Gospels minimum.

Stealing in Islam
This is lowkey funny ngl
So stealing is haram and the punishment is amputating the arm. Obviously there are basic exceptions like it doesn't count if its a poor person doing it to survive, etc, etc
However these exceptions are funnier to me:
It's not stealing if you don't sneak to steal it (i.e. If you take property by force in front of other people, it's their fault cause they could have asked other people to stop them)
It's not stealing if it's a musical instruments (and also other technically haram things like wine and pigs)
It's only stealing if it's worth over $7.20 USD (for today at least - it depends on the silver prices - but it's 3 Dirhams which is 2.975 or 3 g of silver per coin)
It's not stealing if they forgot to put the thing away, i.e. finders keepers
For your hand to be cut off, they need either the testimony of two qualified witnesses or you need to confess stealing stuff twice
If they don't ask for it back you can steal whatever you like and still keep your hand.
