Stricklake Month week one: Myth/Technology

I finished it and man, I am exhausted. But here it is:

So it is just a short little animation kind of thing. It shows Barbara reading an old Book about Trolls and Changelings and finding a depicted of Walter...In a different way...

It took me SO long to do all of that. Anyways, ig you wanna see a little more of creepy Troll Walt then let me know. I would enjoy writting my thoughts and process to his new form. Well anyways, closeup:

Yes I did wrote all of that on trollish...until I gave up. Translation:

Hello to all fellow Stricklake fans!! Once again it's time to get excited for Stricklake month this August! This year I will be hosting the upcoming month long event, and I hope by releasing the prompts a month in advance like last year, it gives all of you who are interested in participating this year time to prepare!

The event will start 1st of August, and finish on the 31st of August. Our prompts this year are as follows:

Week one: (August 1st - 6th) Myth/Technology

Week two: (August 7th - 13th) Shipwrecked/Resort

Week three: (August 14th - 20th) Sunlight/Moonlight

Week four: (August 21st - 27th) Blood/Healing

Final roundup: (August 31st)

For those new to Stricklake month, all mediums are welcome as long as the focus remains on the relationship Barbara Lake/Walter Strickler and you are welcome to fill in as many or little prompts as you like, from any of the weeks. There's no obligation to do all!

Lost on vacation 🌴🌴🌴🌱

My contribution for week 2 of stricklake month... Shipwrecked!

On their way to a well earned vacation at a tropical island resort, Walter and Barbara were in a shipwreck and ended washed up on deserted tropical island...

Whereas Barbara is set to a more practical approach using the tools she has at her disposal to make themselves shelter, a fire and maybe (hopefully not, concerning her cooking skills) a meal, Walt seems to have already letting his wild side take over, fully channeling his inner Lord of the Flies 🪰 (his attire, at least, is heavily inspired by the 1963 British movie version... 😉).

But don't worry, all is well as long as there are no beasts (besides Walt of course) lurking in the dark. And I am sure being stranded on a tropical paradise can be quite fun too! A vac on the wild side of some kind... And, Walt still being Walt, he has at least some fitting travel reading at hand!

I deliberately chose a more sketchy look in this drawing to get the jungle feeling with the leaves an the lighting.  I give you also a version ony with them so you can see all the wacky little details I tried to give them...

Attempting to do Stricklake month! Here is my first offering, with the theme Utopia.

Utopia: an imagined state of things in which everything is perfect.

I feel like Barbara and Strickler would imagine everything being perfect with Strickler in a human form. Walter seemed to be more comfy in human form for a while there, and while Barbara and him definitely adjusted their definition of perfect as their love grew I feel like around the eclipse event the perfect state of things would be having a NORMAL wedding. Human to human, just two sweethearts in love.

So I drew this trying to show the imagined utopia vs the reality around the edges. my composition skills are NOT all that great and some stuff doesn’t really make sense, but I am overall satisfied. I gave up on making a background but I think in future ones I will put more time in! Maybe i will even color lines…

i made Barbara kinda battlescarred in the reality because I was timeslotting this around the big fight

Yoyoyo! First week of #keenswimmers2023 aka Stricklake month! Here is my contribution to a dystopia! I imagined it a very steampunk world and nothing is a bit of a sketchy drawing but I hope you can appreciate!!<3

Stricklake Month Week 4 pt 2: Healing

There were a few reasons the original one shot that went with this was abandoned. The biggest one being that I couldn’t bring myself to leave Walt dead. Barbara worked her damndest to keep him alive and he was fine. Jim also didn’t kill anyone and, at this point, just wants snuggles.

Week 2 /Royal AU

While drawing it I couldn't stop myself from thinking about dynamic relationship between princess and gargoyle or some another gentle beast who protects castle from invaders (hello gargoyles series 1994's fandom)

At the first time lady Barbara would be a bit afraid of mysterious creature that protects her castle at night, but she is brave woman and she should be grateful to her heroes. So she started getting closer to Walter - you know, she turns out to be extremely curious about his nature; for Stricker it is very unusual experience to connect with a human (very pretty one by the word!)

I guess I really liked this prompt because I did another take for Healing. After fighting the titans, many members of the family were injured, including new addition Skrel. Though she had some help from Morgana and Lenora, Barbara did most for the healing and was particularly exhausted once everyone was stable and on the mend.

Manifestation of love

Stricklake month week 1: Myth

I chose  (maybe not so surprisingly) a Greek myth for my first contribution for stricklake month 🙂. It is the story of the sculptor Pygmalion which is told in Ovids' Metamorphoses. Pygmalion creates a very lifelike ivory scupture depicting the woman of his dreams and subsequently falls deeply in love with his creation. He wishes nothing more than his lover to be real. The goddess of love, Aphrodite, eventually grants his wish and the sculpture comes to live. The drawing shows exactly the moment of the statue starting to become human.

I think this story of finding love unexpectedly is quite fitting for a stricklake scenario although the roles here are somewhat reserved because Walt is the artist and Barbara the one made of stone...oh, and there is, also a broken statue of the minotaurus in rhge back as kind of a vanitas Chiffre for Walters self perception as a monster and his, self doubt... But don't worry, despite this being a Greek myth all turns out well here for the lovers

Ehy! I was thinking of doing something sad for the third keenswimmers2023 theme, BUT since I LOVE comedy and need to make it up to you for skipping the second theme (I've been too busy forgive me) here is the "stranger" theme with a role-play of this couple. (Yes I was watching Modern Family again and the idea came to me from there).

I mean who having a boyfriend who has had a thousand different identities wouldn't want to have some fun with one of them to experience something new?

Also enjoy the bonus vignettes, I hope you enjoy them^^
