This was my favourite part of the House of Banksy art exhibition
Tumblr media
I never was in Bethlehem/Palestine, I always wanted to see the local people there and Banksy's hotel. But I was very happy to see even the replica of one of the hotel rooms and the art works in it.
It is called the hotel with the worst view. They even tried to make a window that should replicate the ugly ass wall with Banksy's art.
Tumblr media
Sadly Banksy's hotel closed shortly after the genocide in Gaza started, I mean 2 million lives are literary starved to death or constantly attacked after all... what even more devastating is, that the genocide will continue for almost a year a now. It is just sickening to see that no politician gives zero fucks about it ...
Here are more information about the wall.

Also one of my fav artworks:
Tumblr media
And one of Banksy's recent art works ... it was call for a ceasefire. He posted it on his Instagram. But shortly after he posted it, a fucker stole the stop sign wtf ...
Streetart is made for everyone to see and enjoy. But it is also completely unprotected and has a short live ...
Tumblr media
I need to be honest with myself ... him being pro palestine and including palestinian people in his projects is my main reason why I love his artwork so much.
He built this the Walled of Hotel to help the local people and even made an art gallery inside the hotel to show more about Palestinian history and Palestinian art. The money the hotel earns was used to fund local project and help the Palestinian people.

Also just to be clear, because again, I wrote this ten years ago — there were a lot of Palestinians criticizing Banksy's work from back in 2005 in the west bank.
The one I remembered and that stuck with me was:
Banksy’s conversation with an old Palestinian man emphasizes this bizarre interlacing between aesthetics and protest.
When the man said Banksy made the wall beautiful, he initially thanked him. However, the [Palestinian] man responded,
“We don’t want it to be beautiful, we hate this wall. Go home."
The Harvard crimson
To my knowledge he last painted in Gaza back in 2015, which again, was almost a decade ago so I'm not sure which instance of painting in Gaza and then appearing across the world this person is referring to. It's been a long time.
He also typically stands to profit from the conflict (bizarrely, even as he protests it) because of The Walled Off Hotel. (It's currently closed.) Because he owns a hotel in Bethlehem where all the rooms have a view of the wall for tourists! It's full of his art and is also a museum! You have to give a $1,000 security deposit that only gets refunded after your stay.
The website literally includes this in the FAQ's:
Are you just making a profit from other people's misery?
The hotel is now an independent local business. The aim is to break even and put any profits back into local projects.
THAT DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION???
And it's worth debating! It's a valuable question! The concept is rife for discourse.
But here's the more important questions that are part of my point:
1. How many Palestinian street artists can an average person name? How many Palestinian artists are overlooked in favor of Banksy, who, if nothing else, claims a British identity (whether or not he's actually an artist's collective)?
2. How many people have both seen this art and known anything about its context? Did this actually raise any awareness?

I hope the people here know the difference between graffiti and tagging The latter is: Incredible artists who make stunning wall art and messages that creates vibrancy in a city and bring life to boring buildings. Street art that can be political or simply celebratory. The former is: Gang tags that are sometimes sprayed over vital signage and information, and the more tags, the lower the quality of the area becomes, because businesses don't want to go there due to the chance their shops being vandalised. I'm not talking about the big companies, I'm talking about the corner shops run by independent people, (for you Americans- the momnpop stores), that damage their livelihood and the community around them thanks to the Broken Windows discussion. This theory, introduced by criminologist George Kelling and conservative academic James Wilson in 1982, states that environments that are already polluted attract more dirt. In other words, this theory indicates that urban disorder and criminal activities are related to graffiti – which some may also interpret as street art – leading to a negative perception of these practices up to the present days.
I'm talking about this (the tag with the drawing on the left has potential, shame it's ruined by the other bad tags and scrawled shit).

it's lazy and just there to deface as much as possible. it's a sign of an area that's often ravaged with crime and unsafe areas. I don't look at them and think 'yeah stick it to the man'. I'm not talking about this -
Tumblr media
This shit brings a smile to my face every time i see something like this. This is skill, talent and creativity. This is someone with skills wasted doing just this. This is vibrancy over a corporate machine of banality. (Though spraying over the windows can sometime fuck up anyone with visual accessibility issues).
it's so funny how graffiti is like a non issue that effortlessly reveals peoples' reactionary tendencies.
