Love Letter to a Stranger, iv.

Dear Special Someone,

This year I spent my birthday in a strange house in a strange city, but I made it a little bit like home. 

I had so wanted to meet you two and three years ago. Looking back, I feel so foolish and silly. You did not meet me, yet there I was--peering into strangers’ faces and hoping to see your eyes looking back at me. I was woefully unaccomplished, having preciously few little gifts to offer.

I wonder if I have anything more to offer now. 

I am small, but I could become smaller. I could learn to take up less space in your life, if you only had a little place in which to put me. Forgive me for my chatter and for my laughter; I could learn to be quieter for you. I will not put out my light for you, but I could learn to dim its glow.

I am too much and not enough in all sorts of wrong ways, I think.

I will learn to sleep and eat less, surviving primarily on water and salt. I will learn how to love you well, if you would teach me and be a little patient with me.

My little gifts are not worthy of acceptance, but they are yours if you want them.  I do not know what else to say to you, but this: 

I pray you are well. I pray you are healing from the pain in your life. I pray you are caring for yourself well. I pray your family and friends are well. I pray your family and friends treat you kindly and with respect. I pray you are happy, busy with the work HaShem has set before you. I pray you are safe. I pray you are safe, satiated, and serving HaShem to the best of your abilities. I pray you are blessed in all things and all endeavors. I pray HaShem increases your portion of blessing, anointing, and talents. I pray you are filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. 

I pray you may recognize me when you see me. I pray HaShem opens your eyes and heart to me.

I will not need much to survive, my stranger. You may take what you want from me, what you want from my little gifts. 

I shall find a way to fill my own cup while I wait for you. I shall find a way to not need so much in my cup. Eventually, I shall find a way to not need a cup at all. 

Forgive me if I have ever seemed greedy for my cup to be filled; fill yours from mine instead.

This year I spent my birthday in a strange house in a strange city, but I made it a little bit like home. I am slowly learning to live un-presumptuously, without assuming we shall /truly/ meet. 

Forgive me for my earlier presumption. Forgive me for the state of my little gifts. Forgive me for not having more to offer.
