gladly. i love talking about her

shes a 20 something year old german trans woman living in nz. shes 5'10" (somewhere around like 177.80cm) and a lesbian. she uses she/her pronouns but is fine with being called a guy or people using he/him for her as long as she know they believe her when she says shes a woman (like they dont mean it in a transphobic way). she has a deep voice and a german accent i havent really got much of the worldbuilding down yet but i do have most of her personality down. also her story takes place in some vague year between 2000 and now

shes kinda a huge loser like in the sense that she spends most of her time just sorta sitting around at home drinking beer and smoking while listening to industrial and hardcore and metal and shit (shes almost definitely depressed but im yet to explore that side of her lmao). she drinks and drives, shes incredibly wreckless. she kinda doesnt care that much about others but more in a way where shes just kinda always in her own head only thinking about herself and what she wants but when it comes to the people close to her shes incredibly protective like a guard dog. she acts like kinda a silly idiot around her loved ones but as soon as someone even looks at any of them wrong, shes fully ready to kill them. she clings onto her friends and stuff like theyre the last thing she has left. less in a desperate kinda codependent way and more in a "i could not live without you i will protect you with all i have trust me please stick around and keep me in your life i will make my existence worth your while" kind of way

shes a wannabe badass but also just is a badass. like she acts all cold and stoic but laid back, i guess in a way trying to seem all mysterious and cool but mostly just comes off like a bit of a jackass (cause she kinda is a bit of a jackass but she means well. sometimes.) i havent got to this part of the worldbuilding so i dont have an explanation for why she is this way but im planning that theres something she has to fight against or something like that. i have a bit of a vague idea of what i want but no specifics but she has a side to her where like shes actually kinda badass. she wears a wolf mask and carries around this baseball bat which the tip is like covered in nails and shit. im planning she gets covered in blood often because women covered in blood is awesome. im planning a theme with the group of characters she hangs out with where they all wear some kind of animal mask and each have their own weapon which like reflects their personality and whatnot

she works in a fast food restaurant which i feel like explains a lot about her

she mostly wears the mask to hide her identity but also to just hide her face in general. shes not insecure about how she looks but more just worried about what other people think of her. shes on hrt but she wants to keep her body hair cause she likes her body hair which includes her facial hair though she does regularly shave it cause she knows it gets her misgendered. she also wears a spiked collar and sometimes a leash (if shes not wearing a leash shes wearing some kind of bondage harness thing) both to continue the whole wolf dog thing shes got going on and also for sexual reasons of course

she has a romance thing going on with another oc of mine called blair (the name is a placeholder im so bad at picking names). blairs tiger/big cat coded shes more of the happy-go-lucky chaotic type. sophia goes incredibly soft for her like the whole trying to be a stoic badass thing completely drops around her she would sacrifice herself in a heartbeat if it meant blair was kept alive and safe which worries the fuck out of blair cause half the time she does not need to sacrifice herself but she puts herself in danger for blair often times for no reason cause she believes its what she needs to do to keep her safe. like her life is meaningless without blair so she'd rather be the one to die than live without blair. which like yeah theres a flaw in her logic cause like if she dies shes still without blair and now blairs sad but yknow. maybe she'll figure that out someday not sure tho shes a little stupid

idk what else to write so ill just add little tiny things i added to her for fun her favourite movie is evil dead 2 (this is me projecting onto her), she moans when she pees, she would give everything to be a werewolf, she had her drivers license taken from her she still drives tho. she shouldnt but she does, she hates beer but drinks it anyways. i think she doesnt know theres other kinds of alcohol. no idea how she doesnt know maybe she just hates herself and wants to drink shit that tastes bad for fun,

If there is a seat swap, I reeeally hope it’s Liam Lawson…man has some talent. And I’d love to see someone from NZ back on the grid. Who would you like to see if it happened?

I think if they went for a midseason swap, they currently have two main options - Liam Lawson or *drumroll* Daniel Ricciardo.

That being said, I think it would literally be a half season seat warm until they made a solid choice for 24 and on that basis they may feel they might as well cut their losses and stick with NDV until the end of the season.

The fact they didn't trust Liam Lawson enough to give him a shot in the seat anyway kind of works against him in my opinion and for a last minute seat fill they'd probably prefer someone with experience, but I'm not sure Daniel really wants to go back? At least not right this second and I'm not sure how the financials to get him would work either. That being said, if he does want to come back, jumping in that car and nailing it could be the only way he realistically manages to do it in the short term.

I think signing NDV in the first place was a bit of a red flag in many senses, Monza was a very skewed data set and wasn't entirely representative of his true capabilities, and I don't know if the optics of 'red bull taking someone from mercedes stable' kind of... skewed their judgement? Red Bull has a vast junior programme and lots of them just growing out of F2 and the fact they didn't see fit to take a chance on any of them, isn't the most glowing of endorsements for any of them to eventually get an F1 seat.

my glasses prescription is fine i think. my eye doctor said that i get headaches from glasses because... well i tried to explain this and then deleted it all because it was a very scientific explanation when she said it and i zoned out pretty much halfway through and even the part that i did understand i can't translate to english! but it has something to do with the fact that with contacts it's enough to move my eyes in the direction i want to look at and with glasses i have to move my whole head and my brain got so used to contacts that it overdoes it with the eye movements when wearing glasses? i dunno. this is the best i can do in explaining it

i must admit i'm very jealous of the never snows part because while snow is pretty to look at it's absolutely freezing! for the past week i slept under a duvet, three blankets while wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt and i still woke up cold. because for a couple of nights it was around -22°C. it's great

I actually DON’T know the reason behind burma trails. I really don’t. The reason ‘it’s a fun activity!’ seems a little fake. if it’s a fun activity then why did Mrs. G. tell us a horror story about the forest before we went out to navigate said forest at night, blindfolded, surrounded by wildlife and parents supervising (*cough* waiting for the opportunity to jump out at you *cough*) with a teacher at the end waiting to scare us. So we can learn how to navigate the forest in the dark? So we learn how to follow a mysterious rope INTO the forest at night? seems dodgy to me. school camps be like [drives you out to forest] follow this rope and don’t take your blindfold off. like. bruh. i almost DID have a heart attack one time, I got stuck like something was holding my leg. First thought-ah, must’ve got my leg stuck in a big stick. Second thought-maybe this is one of the parents fucking around, it feels more like a grip than a twig. Third thought-I cannot get my leg free no matter what I do what the fuck is HAPPENING so I started crying out for help. When they FINALLY came they found nothing my leg was caught on so that was fun. love that for me. I was able to move as soon as they arrived. That’s not weird at all. anyway.

I think most of my early memories are just from stories I’ve been told and photos I’ve seen. the temperature comment is so funny because during the heart of winter i tend to sleep with a sheet, a blanket, a duvet, then 2-4 blankets on top while in a long sleeve shirt and long pants and sometimes bed socks and often a hottie (i’ve never realised how that sounds out of context...a hot water bottle...is calling it a hottie normal or is a my family thing? is this a nz thing? now i’m questioning myself). in my uni accommodation last year we didn’t have proper heating during most of winter and well. there was a quilt added to everything else. every blanket i could find. how cold does it get here in winter? rarely ever past 0 degrees celsius. I would literally die in your position, clearly. I could not survive that. Props to you for making it through aha.

yesss. Before when I found five dollar notes it’d be on the street and I’d be like oh no! Mum we have to hand this into the police station! It’s a lot of money, someone will be looking for it! Understandably she was like,, lindsey they might miss it but there’s not really any way you can find them,,, I still refused to spend it. That was like my first time really getting that much money for myself. The dairy on main street sold lollies for 10 cents each and they had like, 30 different lil glass boxes so you’d go I want 3 of 26, 5 of 7, ohhh and 5 of 13 please! I dunno if they’re still 10 cents each but I thought it was the best thing ever as a kid. Drabble #2! I think, anytime I get little ideas, I’m just going to jot them down and upload them. I just get little dialogues / scenes in my head and need to share them so!! Here you go.

“You wanna stick it where?” The confusion on your pretty face, as you sat with your legs extended out on the length of the sofa, made Alfie’s lips twitch. A deep, etched line formed between your brows as you eyed your husband. The opened hard cover on your lap was growing to be quite heavy despite the fact that it only weighed a pound or a little over. Tracing the soft, yellow cover with the pads of your fingertips, you slowly folded the corner to mark your place before slamming it shut and setting it to the side on the brown coffee table. Alfie watched you as you pulled the frame of your glasses off of your face and instead placed them in your hair. “Clarification, baby. You want to stick that,” The tip of your recently trimmed nail ushered directly toward his crotch. “in my rear?” The idea made you feel on edge. “Is that normal?”

Alfie could’ve laughed at the innocence that radiated off of you. Sure it was normal! Wasn’t it? He’d done it before with other women and it had felt quite good. The man adjusted his shirt, lazily fiddling with the buttons on the front of it as he crossed the room and collapsed on the sofa beside you, pausing long enough to where he could lift your calves and set them on his lap.

“Wouldn’t matter if it were fucking normal, would it, yeah, you’re either interested, pet, or you’re not.” His lips rubbed against one another as he eyeballed you, fingertips grazing the ends of his facial hair as he studied the glimmers and flickers of various emotions.

“I’m confused.” It was evident. “What’s the difference in sticking it there versus the normal way.” The question made him straighten. He sensed your hesitation, but he knew it was expected. You hadnt had a very good experience with losing your virginity and you really didn’t want to go through that discomfort again. But Alfie brushed his fingertips along your soft flesh, caressing your leg absentmindedly — tenderly, as if the touch wasn’t a way to lure you in.

“Don’t be confused.” His words were clearly exasperated. You could tell he just wanted to be shoved deep into your bum. You folded your arms slowly and gaze him a very inquisitive gaze. “Right, come here.” His hands moved up to your hips. “Lay down, yeah, I can do all the fucking work, can’t I?” There wasn’t much time to respond before he gripped the backs of your heels and swiftly yanked you down flat on the cushion after maneuvering himself so he rested between your thighs. A little giggle bubbled in your throat before rolling past your lips.

“Honey..” The urge to halt him was strong, but the gleam in his eye told you to just let him have his way. He’d get it one way or another — now or later. “I..” You hadn’t heard of this. Since when did men push their cock’s into a woman’s ass. And since when did they instantly assume they could. “I’m a bit nervous. I’ve never done anything like this before.”

“I have.” Alfie’s words made you tense enviously in the slightest. Envious of all the other women who’d had your husband. He leaned in and brushed his lips against your jaw, all the way up to your ear. “I’ve got you, pet. I’d never fucking hurt you, yeah.” Your nails absentmindedly traced his cheeks and then around to the back of his hair. Inhaling deeply, you shut your eyes and moaned in exasperation.

“You’re just gonna keep asking until I let you, aren’t you?” You could feel his smile against your tender flesh.

“Nah, pet, I know what no means, don’t I?” Your fingers curled in his soft tresses, lazily brushing through them repeatedly.

“I don’t know. Do you? You didn’t know what no meant when I said it wasn’t smart to screw the other day in that tiny dressing room.” You went to sit up, to prove a point that you were still a bit upset that he’d managed to convince you.

“Right, but you didn’t say ‘no’, did you, pet, right, you said it weren’t smart.” He licked his lips and lifted himself off of you in only the slightest, still trapping your form beneath his own. A little furrow formed between your brows as you shifted.

“Well I..” You didn’t want to say ‘no’ to his request. Alfie never asked much for anything apart from sex and you didnt mind ever. It was only when he wanted to bend you over in public places that you tried briefly, and failed miserably, to convince him that maybe it wasn’t the best location. Alfie always got his way. But this, asking for something sexual, it was new. He never asked, he just told. And it was always things you were used to.

“Sh..” He leaned in, warm breaths of his kissing your awaiting lips. “We can try, yeah, and if you don’t like it, pet, I’ll stop, won’t I?” He kissed your lips tenderly before wrapping his hand around your own. The wedding ring that swallowed his finger was cool between your own as he laced your hands together. A soft hum of delight escaped your throat, one that made you all the more willing to do this. He would be so delicate with you. So cautious and considerate. He wasn’t going to hurt you, he’d said, which meant that when there was the inevitable pain and discomfort then he would shower you in all the affection he could muster. You could feel the heat from his hands, seeping into the flesh of your thighs as he sunk them under the fabric of your dress and pushed them further and further inside until he’d reached his destination. Hooking his fingers in the sides of your underwear, he swiftly tugged them down before leaning in and stealing a quick kiss.

The air in the room was cold as it attacked your body. Your skin pricked with goosebumps, bottom lip disappearing between your teeth. You sucked in a deep gulp of air before looking toward your husband as he sank back on his knees to get a good look at the space between your legs, he was now playing with. “How many times?” Your voice suddenly filled the room. His eyes flickered up to your own. Those blue pools held so much depth. He could speak to you without even having to open his mouth. The slight squint that formed, followed by the soft stroking of his beard told you that he didn’t understand your question. “Have you done this before. How many times..” He silenced you then, when realization hit him.

“Oh..” There was a brief silence as he brushed his hands along your legs and down to your knees. He hunched over you before leaning in so your noses could brush. “Maybe only three fucking times, yeah, not many.” The utter shock you felt made your insides twist again with envy. He’d done this three times before? A little wave of nerves flooded you then. What if you couldn’t handle the discomfort or didn’t like the feeling at all? Clearly he did, otherwise he wouldn’t be asking you to do this for him — to try it for him. Your lower lip stuck out in the slightest then. You did your best to give a nod of understanding but Alfie read you like a book, he knew you felt a bit shy over the fact that the pair of you were doing something completely new. His hand lifted to your cheek, stroking the length of it lazily. “S’alright, yeah, we can take our fucking time.” He leaned in for another sweet kiss and you practically melted beneath him. He wasn’t pushing or rushing, he was being so patient. It made your heart swell.

Pain was sure to come, but how much you didn’t know. This was Alfie, the man you loved more than anything in the world — more than should be possible. He would do everything in his power to ensure that the moans that left your lips were ones of approval, not frustration and distress. The man placed his mouth back on your own and kissed you until your lips were swollen, red, and parted so you could pant. Your chest heaved with nerves and lack of oxygen. Little by little, the nerves would fade away and the man was sure that ecstasy would take over.

Garden Report 20.05.15

This isn’t going to be much of a report (more like observation report): taking it easy with a spazzy back so no real work. Lots to be done after the last blow through ripped up so much that was tender and green. But the garden is defiant and just produces more green.

I did stake up with bamboo poles a couple of saplings that needed a little help after being whipped by the kiwi. I swear that monster is going to be the death of too many plants if I can’t get the upper hand with it. But I can’t do ladder time, right yet. I am beginning to understand my uncle: you don’t want a kiwi in your garden because you will need an entire farm for just that plant... slow learner here or just going to do it my way and learn the hard way.

Harvested some lemon balm. Some for starts and some to dry for the pantry. It will produce all spring and some into the summer before it gets too woody but the leaves are still tender.

I have a wonderful crop of burdock in my grow beds. No, I did not plant it there -- those are volunteers. I need to get them up and out because the leaves get huge and the roots (which is the only part I’m interested in) are so invasive. I like them in pots for this reason as it is easy to harvest and I don’t want them in my asparagus bed. I’m already crowd planting to the max.

I am just about ready to invest in a New Zealand rat trap (they are actually world wide distributorship but wanted to see what NZ was using since they have invasive species/rat problem). I am just about at my wits in (no jokes about my lack of wit, please ;) ). It has a feeder tube and when they stick their heads up in it to get the chocolate sauce *pow* they trip a piston that kills them instantly Goodnature A24 self-resetting rat trap. I have to get something going as the traditional traps they have learned and are now avoiding the newer jaws of death I have (except to eat the random noob that tries it out). They are violating anything that has sap running right now which means decrease in blossoms which means decreased food for the family and an entry way for disease and fungus/mold for the poor plant. Soon the rats will be in the ripening fruit and about that time the chicks will go out ... I know I provide a great habitat and with all the apartments and their rubbish bins open, its to be expected. In the dawn hours from my front porch, I can see in the distant a barn owl that patrols the green zone through the city. I just wish he would come to my garden. Is there a flag I can raise to call in the owls?! Maybe one made of rat skins and tails? I do have a barn owl nesting box in my closet (long story) but if its accepted, then the neighbors will hate me (more so?) because owls and their owlets are NOISY! And if you don’t know what its like, think scary sounds off a horror flick ... on and off all night long, nails on the chalk board ... for weeks. Yeah, its not going to happen.

I need to invest in more baking soda for the garden. The humidity level with the rise in temp will certainly spawn an outbreak. I am also going to use it as a weed and pesty bug solution. I don’t know, they are probably limiting how much you can buy of baking soda now too with this panicdemic strangle-hold. Please sir, can I have another baking soda ...

This week I started at 87.1kg. Over the week weight dropped to 84.5kg. So why the drop? After I'd already been dieting for 4 weeks and should only see 200 to 300 grams drop week to week. Well there is a number of reasons your weight will fluctuate. Some of these reasons are: 1. You ate more carbs 2. You had more sodium 3. Stressed 4. Sick 5. Hormones 6. You had more artificial sweetener 5. You stressed your body with over training Etc. Etc. So my weight was up on Monday because of reason 1, 2, 4, and 5. Meaning that extra weight is all water retention. This is one of the biggest reasons to not weigh yourself every day if your fluctuations upset you. Weight loss isn't a straight line but will fluctuate as you go depending on your body and what you are doing. Look at the overall trend over weeks. Have a plan and stick to it. If you slip up move on and focus on nailing the next meal. How’s it going, kiddos?! I’m finally back in little ol’ NZ (France was INCREDIBLE) and finally managed to finish this chapter! I want to see if I can finish this in the next few weeks - I’ve never actually finished a fic before and I really want to! As always, likes and replies and reblogs are always appreciated (yes, I read your lovely tags!) and I hope you enjoy :)

A thin slither of light was escaping under the door to Crutchie’s room as Davey came back to the apartment. He unceremoniously slammed the front door shut and threw his bag beside the lumpy couch in the living room. Upon hearing the loud bang, Crutchie turned down the volume of the movie he was watching and yelled out, “Dave, is that you?”

He received a reluctant grunt in response, something out of sorts for Davey. Closing the lid of his laptop, Crutchie swung his legs out of his pile of blankets, grabbing his crutches from where they were leaning against his desk, and made his way out to the living room. He could see the mess of Davey’s black hair sticking up over the couch cushion, accompanied by some soft sniffling sounds. He grabbed the box of tissues sitting on the dining table and shoved them under his armpit, before walking over to and flopping onto the spare spot of the couch.

“How’re ya feeling, buddy?” Crutchie asked, even if he already knew the answer. Davey was swiping at his bloodshot eyes, one knee hugged into his chest, and generally looking pretty miserable. He gently lay his crutches down on the ground and placed the box of tissues between the two of them on the couch, after poking Davey in the side with the box so he knew they were there. Davey let out a couple more sniffles before grabbing for a tissue to blow his nose.

Crutchie leaned into Davey’s side, placing his head on the taller boy’s shoulder. He looked up at Davey’s reddened face and slightly puffy eyes - it wasn’t often that his best friend cried, so he knew it had to be something pretty bad. It was unlikely to be anything about school because they hadn’t had any assignment grades released today, so it had to be something personal. “Is your family okay, Dave?,” he asked softly.

“They’re fine. Well, as fine as they can be alone with Les,” Davey huffed out, a hint of amusement in his voice. He took a deep breath and stared down at his hands. The tight fists he was holding relaxed, showing red crescent moons on his palms. Exhaling loudly, he muttered a singular word under his breath - “Jack.”

Lifting his head up in surprise, Crutchie looked at the side of Davey’s head as the boy in question kept looking down. “Jack?! What did he do? Ya’know, to leave you, like…” He motioned awkwardly up and down, in reference to Davey’s current appearance.

“Like what? Looking like an idiot crying over a boy?!” In a moment of self-deprecation, Davey laughed a little before hanging his head in his hands. “Because that’s what I’m doing,” he groaned, muffled into his hands. As he reached for another tissue, Crutchie interrupted by placing his hand on top of Davey’s, and asking again.

“What happened?”

Davey rocked back, collapsing into the couch cushions and throwing his head back to stare at the ceiling. He whined out, “Oh god, it’s so stupid,” before rubbing the heel of his hands into his eyes. “So, what happened is that Jack asked me over for a study date - don’t look at me like that Crutch, that’s all it was - and it was going fine, until he got a message from this girl, Katherine…” Davey spat out the name like bile, taking an instant dislike for how it tasted in on his tongue. “She was some random chick signing up for his art project on tinder, and he had to go meet up, so he kicked me out of his apartment to go see her. And now… I’m here. Brooding.” He kept his gaze locked on the ceiling, and jumped a little when Crutchie rested his head once again on Davey’s shoulder.

“That really sucks that he’d kick you out like that Davey-“ Crutchie attempted to empathise with his friend, but was quickly cut off.

Davey scoffed, trying not to laugh at Crutchie completely missing the point. “It’s not that, I’m kind of glad we left. I still haven’t met his roommate, and from what I’ve heard, I’m kind of scared to. It’s that he could leave me so easily, and for a random girl? Do I really mean that little to him?” He sighed, utterly dejected. Davey thumped his head against the back of the couch before Crutchie intervened, tutting gently and petting Davey’s arm to distract him from the deliberate killing of brain cells.

“Of course he cares for you, that’s not in question - I see how much you hang out!” A playful punch was landed on Davey’s arm, a yelp and a hint of amusement coming from the afflicted boy. “But you kinda should’ve seen this coming.”

Davey pushed Crutchie off him sharply, a look of incredulous shock on his face. “I’m sorry, what?!” he shouted. “I should’ve seen this coming? What are you saying?! That just because he’s bisexual he’d ditch me for the next hot chick he saw?! That the past few weeks meant so little to him that he left as soon as he got a better offer?!” As Davey’s voice rose in volume, Crutchie was shaking his head in frustration. He had to resort to waving his hands angrily in front of Davey’s face to grab his attention.

“Dude! That’s not what I meant!” He could see Davey about to speak up in protest but had to cut him off, “No, let me finish. I meant, that you signed up to be a part of an art project. You hit it off with the artist too, which is great! But he hasn’t finished the project, so of course he’ll be doing sittings with other people for his drawings. You should’ve known that he’d contact more people.”

As Crutchie talked, Davey visibly withered. Of course. He was so purely focused on the dating part that he completely forgot why they connected in the first place. Jack is an artist, he had to put his art first. But Davey, as per usual, jumped to the defensive and overreacted to something quite simple.

“I just don’t get why you’re so angry about it Dave.” There was a long stretch of silence after Crutchie spoke in which Davey hung his head and began picking at his nails. Wanting to get to the bottom of it, Crutchie softly held on of Davey’s hands in his own in order to refocus his friend. “Davey, why are you angry about this?”

Davey mumbled something under his breath, and although he couldn’t hear it, Crutchie could still sense the irritation in his voice.

“Sorry, I didn’t hear what -“

“He kissed me, okay?!” Davey burst out, throwing down Crutchie’s hand. His roommate’s face changed from an expression of confusion to elation - to Crutchie, this was amazing news! Letting out all the built up energy from that secret, Davey explained further. “A couple of weeks ago, after my sitting, Jack kissed me… I mean, only on the cheek, but still. I thought that meant something.”

“That totally means something!” Crutchie was practically bouncing from excitement, and Davey couldn’t help but let out a little groan. Why did he pick such an overexcitable best friend? “He has to like you Davey I’m sure of it. Have you told him that you like him?”

All the noise in Davey’s brain screeched to a halt at that. No no no, there was no way he could tell Jack that he liked him. That he really really liked him. “What? Pfft, no! Of course I haven’t!” Davey tried to play it off with nonchalance, but an audible hitch in his voice at the end of the sentence gave his nerves away.

“But you’re going to, right?” Crutchie was staring up at Davey with such excitement in his wide open eyes. God, could he be any more of a hopeless romantic? “He kissed you Dave, that’s amazing! You have to tell him you feel the same way!”

Just the simple idea of confessing his feelings made Davey’s heart rate go through the roof. There was no way he could do that. Jack was his first serious crush and he had no clue as to what he should do. But he wanted to avoid this gross nervousness as much as possible. He shifted his gaze back to Crutchie, still looking at him with awe. He just needed some time to process everything. Alone.

Despite the smidgen of sympathy that Crutchie had given him, he also received a much needed metaphorical kick in the ass. Davey knew that he should tell Jack how he felt, but at this point in time, he really didn’t want to. This was all completely new and he was terrified. He wanted to take his mind off of everything that has happened, and he knew just the people to talk to.

“Crutchie, ya know, it’s a Friday night and it’s getting late. I gotta go call my parents for Shabbat… I’ll see you in the morning.” He pushed himself up off the couch, grabbed his bag and retreated to his bedroom.

Calling out a distant, “Good night,” from the couch, Crutchie couldn’t quite believe the emotional whiplash they went through in the past few minutes. First Davey was sad, then angry, then some kind of mixture of nervous and aloof. He didn’t even seem overly thrilled at the idea of kissing Jack, even if Crutchie was overjoyed for him. Maybe Davey’s feelings for Jack were messier than he originally thought.

Davey reached into the front pocket of his bag, searching for his phone. He yanked it out once he found it, zipping up his bag and placing it beside his desk. Trudging over to his bed to get comfy for the phone call (his mom could talk for hours during their Shabbat catch-ups, and he wasn’t prepared to do that without a blanket to cozy into), he flicked through his notifications. He found a text that came in 12 minutes ago from Les, telling him that they were ready for him to call home, a few Facebook tags from Crutchie, but another message caught his eye.

Mixture should be thick but run slowly off the fork once mixed. Too much liquid will make the cake not cook right and you'll have to scoop parts out then cook the rest of the mixture. Too little liquid will make the cake very dry. You can always add Almond milk after it's cooked if you find it too dry though. It'll take some experimenting as different protein powders mix differently and cook differently. But if you stick to these you can't go too wrong: USN @musclepharm @prosupps @muscletech @bioLogix (anything that when mixed with water and is still relativity thick) Bake for 20 min at 170C degrees (depending on your oven) Test the mixture with a cake poker at 15 min. then every 4-5 min after that as it will cook quickly all of a sudden. Tips and tricks from my travels

Interrupting the usual posting schedule for something a bit different (I’ve got time up my sleeve and thought it would be handy to document my packing list for later on).

My packing list!

Clothing:

7x tops (light/short sleeved)

3x sports tips

2x thermal tops

1x long sleeve top

1x 3/4 sleeve top

2x bikini top and bottom

1x full piece togs (with sleeves to avoid jelly’s!)

1x denim skirt

1x denim shorts

1x jeans

1x full length tights

2x 3/4 length tights

1x sport shorts

1x elephant pants

1x wool stockings

1x normal stockings (I find these good to wear under jeans to make them warm)

2x dresses

14x underwear

4x bras

2x sports bras

2x sneakers (I left with one and bought a second in LA. My ones I bought with me have lived a good life so second was in case they die)

2x jandals/sandals (again left with one but on the road realised my sandals weren’t waterproof so new jandals were needed for showers. Picked some up for 28 pesos in Mexico!).

Accessories:

1x travel pack (I went with the MacPac Orient express as it felt the best when I put it on. It’s 65L including the smaller bag)

1x day pack (mine came with my big bag)

1x drink bottle (stainless steel/insulated to keep whatever is inside cold/hot - which ever it was to begin with!). This is one of my absolute must haves and it surprised me others aren’t travelling with them. Mine as a wee handle and I loop it to my bag with a carebena

1x travel pillow

5x luggage (TSA approved) locks. My large pack uses two, small pack one. Then two spares. One is for on lockers at hostels. The other has a longer loop which Kimberley said was handy to have in India for long bus journeys. Haven’t used so far but nice to have.

2x random shoppings bags (to use for beach or food carrying)

1x headlamp

1x torch

1x money belt (I got the gotravel one as it truely can’t be seen under clothes)

2x hat (1 is a sports one so good for sweat and water)

1x fast dry towel

1x sarong (I picked this up in Mexico to use as a beach towel)

1x sleeping bag sheet

1x sunglasses

1x 5 pack of carebenas from Kathmandu

Bathroom:

Shampoo/conditioner - I don’t use sunsilk at home but discovered they do 200ml bottles the day I left (and I couldn’t fit my 350ml bottles I normally buy!)

Moisturiser

Face wash

Razors

Toothbrush x3 (I don’t like using a tooth brush for too long, especially on the road)

Toothpaste

Floss and floss sticks (I love these!)

Hair brush (mini) and wide tooth comb

Hair ties

Face wipes (you could use baby wipes!)

Cotton buds/pads

Nail polish (purchased a mini one on the road)

Sunblock - one large liquid and also a large aerosol spray (so I can do my back alone). Also special face sunblock.

Medication:

Vaccinations - I went to the doctor and was topped up on everything needed for stock standard vaccines you get at home. I had done this also for Asia a few years back so it wasn’t many.

Research research research!

I ultimately went with Cigna because they would cover hikes at altitude from 4,000m - 6,000m above sea level (if you’re with a guide company).

Usually I go with Southern Cross Travel Insurance (without thinking about it) but they didn’t have any kind of cover for high altitude cover from what I found/spoke to them about. I also spoke to 1Cover and they suggested their sister company itrek. I found itrek to be double the price and seemed to need go be booked from Australia. Cigna was a last minute find! But a good one.

As they say if you can’t afford travel insurance you can’t afford to travel.

Doctors visit

See medication section of my packing list for both the drugs I took with me and the vaccines I got.

Highly recommend seeing a travel doctor (only they can do the yellow fever injection in NZ / I went to WorldWise in New Market).

However for prescriptions I went to my normal GP as this way they are subsidised to 5$ per script. Travel doctor prescriptions aren’t subsidised (this is what they told me). But they will help you figure out what prescriptions you need.

For melatonin, I picked it up in the USA last year. You can get it in NZ (prescribed) but it’s more expensive (5-15$ a pill versus I spent that amount on 100 in the USA). I prefer melatonin to other sleeping pills that the doctors offer which are subsidised. I only really use it on planes to help with time shifts).

Also, book doctors appointments as early as possible.

Rabies is typically 3 shots over a month plus there is currently a shortage in NZ. I was only able to get it because they gave me another type of vaccine (4 injections in a week in your skin rather than muscle) and because the particular vile had previously been approved and I was deemed high risk (given length I’m away).
