It's that time of the year again. When opinions collide, lines are crossed, swords are drawn. When pants are tightened, jeans are scrutinized and posture is analyzed. That's right, throw shame and embarrassment out of the window, for its the time to decide once and for all (until the next polling season):

Coming in new this year, are Near and Mello (after the timeskip), Naomi (our first human woman representative), Rem (this year's diversity entry from Shinigami realm defending Ryuk's win from last year), Gevanni (making the cut with his excellent arts and crafts project: the fake Death Note ✨).

Defending their spots are last year's winners: Matsuda and Mogi. L and Light are back again, having Protagonist Privilege™️. Aizawa and Rester have teamed up, hoping to work together to improve their ranking this season.

All our contestants have put their best (and worst) foot forward in order to catch Kira. Now, its up to us to reward their struggle and decide who takes away the crown of fattest ass* this year!

Note (*): all mentions of ass in this poll refers to the body part and not the animal. Any misunderstanding otherwise is coincidental and not intended.

MATT PUPPET HELLO??? I want 5.000 immediately. I also redesigned Mello's puppet to fit my version of him and it triggered a whole train of thoughts about the Mello puppet in general.

Take a look at the canon. Left is Near's puppet. Right is how Mello showed up at the SPK headquarters (aka the only time Near had the time to actually look at how Mello looks like AND DIDN'T EVEN TURN AROUND ONE TIME TO LOOK AT HIM).

Near has surveillance footage of him entering the building though, so he for sure had the footage open for reference when sculpting.

The puppet has this weird cushion pattern on it that Near has no way of knowing, given it wasn't really visible when Mello was there in person. How the hell did Near know about the vest then? I think Halle described him.

"Yeah you know he always has this weird way too short biker vest or something with this weird pattern on it, I don't know how else to describe it but it's... so weird?? And the rosary and the leather in general, it's just... he's so strange."

And I headcanon Matt being at some of the meetings between Halle and Mello too. At least as a driver. So Halle 100% mentions Matt to Near like

"Mello had a buddy with him this time" "... a buddy?" "Yeah, they seemed to be friends." "What did he look like? Did you catch his name?" "No but he looked equally weird as Mello. He had these orange-tinted goggles and a super giddy looking fur vest, smoking..." "Did he have reddish-brown hair? Freckles?" "Uh. Yeah...? Yeah he did??" "Wearing stripes of some sort?" "Yeah??" "Mh. Interesting. Still glued to Mello's butt, huh?"

Near wants to make a puppet for Matt too and asks Halle to draw him, at least make a sketch. Halle can't draw shit.

They ask Gevanni to make a composite sketch of Matt by Halle's description. Halle describes him very unflattering and Gevanni draws the most unsettling portrait of Matt you will ever see.

In 2.1 Mello and Matt make it out of the Takada kidnapping alive and crash at the SPK HQ for a few days. Matt noticed this drawing hanging on Near's desk and goes "WHAT POOR BASTARD IS THIS LOLOLOL" and Mello goes "Matt uhm... I think that's you" Matt is in full fanboy mode, asks if he can keep the sketch, makes Gevanni sign it for him, frames it.

ok so my twin and I (mainly my twin) are several thousand words deep in a gevanni backstory fic and i came to the realisation today that it literally all spawned from the fact that. Hes the only American guy other than Raye Penber to have black hair and blue eyes. Like that’s it. We saw that shit and decided that ‘uhhh ykw gevanni is actually (spins wheel) Raye’s long lost brother and before the SPK he was (throws dart) a career lock pick and counterfeiter who was (picks paper out a hat) disowned at 16 for being gay and also a criminal. Yeah he met Naomi once and they knew who each other was from. Work. But like don’t think too hard abt that. Yeah he made fake id’s during Kira. Yeah he joined the SPK by just sneaking in there one day and near was like ‘I want to keep him’. What do you mean that’s not canon’

and I think that’s beautiful 💕

I tend to believe that Gevanni not appearing in the A-Kira shot (and for like one panel in the C-Kira one) isn't done deliberately. I guess he did his job so well during the Kira case that Ohba found no other purpose in his character other than being The guy who made an exact copy of the Death Note for one night™. But there is something very ironic about how he is also the SPK member who has "unreasonable superiors" in his dislikes in H13, you can't help but see it as foreshadowing.

Even if he‘s as physically inactive as one can be, Near most likely has this adolecent sweaty stench on him. He‘s a teen in the SPK arc after all. Teens stink.
