IS~R A~EL 🇳🇬🇳🇿 ADÉSÀNYÀ !!!
By the end of the year, with a win in his rumored upcoming fight vs Dricus de Plessis, Izzy will make history and officially be on his way to becoming the greatest Middleweight of All Time.
with the Dricus win he'll have:
🏅 12 title fights
🏅 11 PPV headliners
🏅 9 title fight wins
🏅 8+ fight bonuses
🏅 5 title defenses
🏅👊🏾 Most Knockdowns in UFC Middleweight History
🏆🏆🏆 3x Undisputed Middleweight Champion
Tumblr media
he is on the verge of Middleweight GOAT status. once he beats Dricus, if he can win the Strickland rematch then turn around and beat the winner of Whittaker vs Chimaev, he'll have tied Silva in title wins at 11. couple that with his résumé, his strength of schedule, his activity, the fact that he did what Silva couldn't by recapturing the title twice, and all of the hype storylines behind a lot of his fights; he could be looking at a pretty strong case for having surpassed Anderson.

Happy 91st Birthday, Jeremy. You are sorely missed.
From JEREMY BRETT PLAYING A PART by Maureen Whittaker. Quotes by Jeremy Brett.
"It all started for me on 3rd November 1933. I began life with everything a child could wish for. We had a huge, glorious, country house on the outskirts of Berkswell, near Coventry, with tennis courts, squash courts, horses and dogs and a wonderful, terraced garden created by my artistic mother, Elizabeth. The family was spoiled rotten, for we had three live-in staff, plus four other people who came in to help. We always seemed to be entertaining a houseful of fascinating people; the door was always open.”
The Grange, where Peter William Jeremy, was born, is a beautiful house with sweet smelling flowering wisteria on the front elevation and nestled in a magical vista of gardens, landscaped by Elizabeth, known as “Bunny”, who was the centre of this loving family.
The Huggins family was a significant part of the delightful Berkswell village in Warwickshire. William and Elizabeth had decided to move to the rambling, attractive Berkswell Grange in 1929 to accommodate a growing family. The three boys, John, Michael and Patrick, needed somewhere to play and to ride, so a large, impressive house was chosen in nearby Truggist Lane. The house featured seventeenth century timber framing, and nineteenth century additions, including a tiled roof.
Due to its grandeur and welcoming hostess, the Grange was the centre of village events, of Christmas parties, of afternoon teas and of music and entertainment.
William and Elizabeth were both keen archers, so it is no surprise that Jeremy took this seriously and belonged to the Woodmen of Arden, a notable club for the sport. “The whole family were taxophilites. Actually, my mother was a brilliant archer, won many awards. She had a special lightweight bow, and when I was growing up, I used her hand-me-downs. Looking back, I must have been about four or five when my father gave me my first lesson. The outfit is really glamorous – Lincoln green cut-away tailcoat, buff waistcoat with gold buttons, shite slacks, shite shoes and a New Zealand style hat that turns up at the side…”
Archery Week was hosted by the Huggins family at the beginning of August each year and to accompany the competitions on the extensive grounds at the Grange, they featured special balls for about 30 or 40 people for dinner, followed by dancing in the ballroom. “The dancing finished so late that breakfast was often served to the guests before they left for home the following day.”
“Naturally, I’d been practising like mad for the occasion. Firing at 100 yards I nervously let the arrow go. It wobbled in the air and my astonishment landed smack in the middle of the target. I was made Master Forester on my first day – a title which carries with it sitting at the High Table. Socially, archery can be pretty heaving going. That day the lunch ran to 12 toasts and I remember staggering out afterwards full of venison and summer pudding, cheeks pink from the port and nose still twitching from my first pinch of snuff…”
He told one interviewer that he had “a marvellous youth with every kind of animal under the sun, from ferrets to rabbits to mice to horses, to monkeys even. It was like a paradise, and a gorgeous home.”
Jeremy had a very special relationship with all animals. He welcomed dogs as earnestly as he welcomed his friends and often on his knees to greet them, face to face. His own dog, Mr. Binks, was a Jack Russell terrier that he affectionately called his “hound of heaven”.
Elizabeth’s reputation was always one of kindness to others, especially towards the homeless in the community. Gypsies and vagrants were frequent visitors expecting to be fed, have a wash or receive fresh clothing, and Williams shirts or trousers, could often be seen on these visitors leaving the Grange. Mrs. Huggins would go out and find Gypsies, taking them back to the Grange – the Colonel would come home from work to find a “Gypsy encampment with great cauldron in the walled courtyard, and clothes being dried in the saddle-room.”
During the Coventry bombing on 14th November 1940, in which more than four thousand homes were destroyed, including the 14th century cathedral, Jeremy’s mother, alerted by the sirens, the noise of exploding bombs and the sight of leaping flames across the open countryside, left her family to drive to the nearby town to what she could to help those who were caught up in the devastation. “The whole city was ringed with leaping flames, bathed in brilliant moonlight and a few searchlights were sweeping the smoke-filled sky.” Consequently, one family was taken into the Grange and 42 members of the extended family lived there until alternative accommodations could be found. There was no question in her mind about the decision; it was simply her first and characteristic response to suffering. “She was a dazzling woman, half Irish and fully Quaker, and ran our home, a large country house deep in the Black Country outside Coventry, in a sort of Flower Power way, always filling it with people that she’d picked up. I remember her bringing home a whole family called Weston during the war, and all of them stayed in our stables.”
Elizabeth Huggins had an enormous effect on the growing Jeremy and some would say that he was very like her in his response to others. “My mother had this extraordinary way of making us flower, and she had open doors and windows in her soul – that’s the only way I can put it. Everybody came to my mother. She was like a light of great warmth.”
What an amazing beginning to a brilliant gentleman.
This is just the very beginning of JEREMY BRETT PLAYING A PART by Maureen Whittaker.

This new interview with Orlando Bloom is quite lovely and interesting. Mostly about his extreme sport doc coming out, but also just about what his career has been like and how it is now. And in particular what that first intense big-budget movie decade was like.
And he had time for some Viggo rainbow farting too:
[LotR] was the most amazing education. That whole team in New Zealand was just like... And Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee. Viggo Mortensen was my mentor basically. He didn't even know it! I used to sit next to him and just absorb his... And that guy, there's a guy who's committed, there's a guy who knows... there's a guy who's an artist.
I love that he's forever such a hero to him. It would be brilliant if Viggo one day would choose to direct a movie with Orlando in it. It somehow doesn't seem completely unplausible now. Or is that just extreme wishful thinking?

11/6/24.
The other day we posted about a CD release from Christchurch, New Zealand band Springloader. The CD is released by longtime label Failsafe Records, also based in Christchurch.
I was further perusing the label's offerings the other day and I came upon this stunning compilation from 1986. This is the 2 CD compilation version. The theme of the CD is bands that went through Christchurch between 1984 and 1986.
This focus led to one of the most stunning compilations I've run across. This is a mix of the known and unknown from the fertile New Zealand scene in the 1980s. You'll find some of the finest Flying Nun bands, but much more. So yes, The Chills, Sneaky Feelings, The Bats, Bird Nest Roys, and The Jean-Paul Sarte Experience are here. But so are The Triffids and This Sporting Life.
Failsafe has another winner compilation, "South Compilation" that also has Flying Nun representation, but less so. And, also check out "Accident Compilation" for a compilation of Christchurch only bands from the early 1980s.

Story time:- Shitting the bed (Disrespectful house guests) CONTAINS NSFW moments
I need to start using my tumblr more... My threapist said I should journal more and tell my life stories because a lot of them are just as absured as this... Okay so this is not an am I the asshole stories because I know I am not. I wrote this last night night whilst stoned. I also wanted to test a new clicky RGB keyboard that my Friend Kendra bought me (She was at this party too and can verify it's a true story...) Here goes
Okay, so... close to a decade ago, now I held a party after the Armageddon expo (Anime and Geek convention in New Zealand) one year.
The lead up was that I was working on an assignment for Uni that needed to be in before Sunday. Sunday was Armageddon, and I was hosting an after-party for cosplayers and furries at my parents' house.
It was a sleepover, and I had worked extra shifts to afford a boat load of Kai to feed everyone. My folks were away in the UK. They knew about the party and they knew about my rule.
If you stay cooked, breakfast is at 10 am because you can sleep in. After that I will give you a job cleaning the house. This had worked previously to great effect.
My folks' house can comfortably sleep 12 (in beds) + more on couches.
The whole of the local furry community was invited, and my best friends at the time had helped me plan.
I get my assignment done at 3am after much tinkering and fuckwittery with word counts as Uni had fucked up the brief and there was ambiguity about word count. Fuck it! It's 3am, it is done. I need to sleep and get ready to let off steam.
Arrive at Armageddon, meet friends, and help friend Cosplay as Totoro in a big fursuit. Meet more furries, including draw fest artists. Fuck it! Invite them. This party is going to be the ultimate nerd fest.
And that's when I meet AL... AL is a dragon furry, who is so up himself his fursona has two dicks... I didn't know this at the time. AL asks if he can come. I had only met him once previously but had interacted well enough online and he seemed cool.... Say fuck it! Come along.
Start getting messages out of the blue from a Trans friend, B, who had just gotten back into the country after a messy break up. Say Fuck it! She can come too. It'll do her some good!
Fast forward to the party. Everything is going swell. I am the perfect host. I'm nervous because my parents' house is full of people I have had next to no sleep and a full day of convention. I'm knackered, my best mate. Let's call him Phoenix. He has packed me a joint. Instantly feel better.
Start to notice something is off...
Notice AL and B are making out like it's an Olympic sport. They are all over each other, and it's squicking out my guests...
Ask them politely. Hey guys... It's not that kinda party. We got people playing fucking Yu-Gi-Oh! And drawing furries and you're... You're doing that...
It gets later, and people start to trickle out. The stayers are watching anime on a projector in the living room that Totoro friend, had brought over.
I'm like, sweet. This is my time for another joint, and I'll set up beds. I walk into the kitchen, and what do I see? B An 8 foot transwoman in heels sucking off AL...
I am beyond mortified and beyond words... AL smug face says something to me, which I forget.
Anyway I tell them that it's not appropriate quietly and again not that kinda party. No other party guests saw that, thankfully... Read the room seriously!
Move on to allocating beds. Okay, so let's put them separately...
B pipes up. "Um... I will have anxiety if I don't sleep away from other people who I don't know" sounds fake as fuck.
Okay, you can have the room my GRANDMOTHER sleeps in when she visits... and my room is ABOVE YOU...
Everyone hears this... Everyone goes to bed. I go upstairs when they do. Spend a little more time with core friends. Break down and tell them what happened... and how mortified I am.
They ask me why you did not tell us? Because I didn't want to ruin the party...
Go sleep. Hear fucking. PISSBOILED! I am so angry! Angry cry self to sleep listening to Weezer. "I am the greatest man that ever lived" (I was masc at the time...) more on that story later...
Skip ahead to the morning. I am up first as I had not slept, nor had they. (The headphones did not hide the fucking...!)
Here I am, angry breakfast! Thankfully, due to many doors between guests and them (except for me... I AM THE ONE WHO HEARD EVERYTHING!)
It was awful... Thankfully, everyone helped clean and was grateful for breakfast. EXCEPT FOR THEM!
THEY DIDN'T GET OUT OF BED UNTIL MIDDAY!
I had shit I needed to do! Everyone did! Everyone knew this. It was on the invites! I purposefully sent the invites. Because in the digital age, respect the party rules!
And I made it very clear 3 TIMES!
☆♤♧◇♧♤♡☆
NOT
THAT
KIND
OF
PARTY!!!
☆♤♧◇♧♤♡☆
They have the AUDACITY! the AUDACITY! to ask where's BREAKFAST!
After a brief explanation... AL, to his credit, helps a little with the last of the cleaning....
B does a sneaky exit but gets caught at the door by me. She says , sheepish and fake sad sounding "Bye...." *Sad eyes look away* ME ME me me me kinda look.
Leaves... Whatever screw her! She's out of my life now...
Meanwhile, other guests start to ship out and thank me for my hospitality and grace, humility and kind hosting, and network skills, etc...
AL and core BFFs last to leave (Phoenix, and Rei) after knowing what has happened asked me if  I wanted to stay with them. Say yes please. AL hears this (he's still not left yet) and says he'll travel with us...
Que? No, me gusta!
Does not get hint. Walk to.bus stop is silent.
Get to bus. AL invites himself by stating “Am I coming to [PHOENIX and REI'S HOUSE] with you?”
Rei who has had it at this point states “I don’t know… Are you?” and glares at him.
Finally getting the hint AL gets off the bus.
Watch him leave… Continue Bus journal. All of us are gobsmacked… GAGGING!!!
Continue to my friend's house. Phone blows up. Messages from B saying how much of a shit host I was and how unwelcome she was made to feel… CALL OUT HER BULLSHIT! Phoenix is cheering me up by making me laugh about the whole thing calling it the "Kitchen BJ saga" Rei is pouring me a hair of thedog bloody mary and a cup of tea
Come home a day later. Shit stains on the bed….  I AM FUCKING LIVID THEY LITERALLY SHIT THE BED!!
End up charging both of them for the price of entirely new bed sheets… AL reluctantly pays as he has rich parents, find out later that he payed for B too.
Never hear for B again, except randomly bumping into her in the hospital (I am an RN) No words were spoken but I honestly hope she is well… AL occasionally pops up in online circles, Never let him live it down. Trues to laugh about it because “LOL It’s been close to a decade” NO! YOU SHIT THE BED! I’m never letting you or anybody else forget it!
If you read this far you are a saint. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest
Peace and love tumblr!
MAY YOU NEVER SHIT THE BED!

welcome!
this blog loves planet earth and the people in it.
some notes:
I generally try to identify places + groups
I try to make conscious decisions about tags that respect cultural identities, consider historical context and reject imperialism. I realize this is impossible and messy and doomed to be inconsistent. choices I've made include one Korea, one Ireland, and multiple tags for separatist states, i.e. Scotland, Catalan Countries.
I am currently unsure when or if it makes sense to tag the "bigger" nation in a post about an autonomous region, ex. China and Tibet, Faroe Islands and Denmark. I want to respect widespread independence movements, but also not become bloated with regional tags. Tibet deserves to be free of China but I have to laugh at modern Texas separatism.
Israel does not get a tag. Jewish diaspora, Free Palestine, genocide, USA, or anti imperialism are used.
I am not always sure when to use the indigenous peoples tag. if I am unsure I will probably leave it out.
except the history and prehistory tag, I currently am not tagging things that no longer exist, ex. Soviet Union, Roman Empire. I may instead tag with related tags, ex. Russia, Greece
Tags like EU, UK, Africa, Asia, Latin American, Polynesian, etc. are used in posts that refer to many places/groups collectively ex. Lunar New Year in Asia
I try to tag the country/group that an artist/writer/creator belongs to, ex. a post featuring Baldwin tagged with USA, literature, black diaspora

i’m a tumblr noob but thanks for the tag @gladyssite
Q1: are you named after anyone?
Nope, although when I was in the consideration of the “what should I change my legal name to” process, I did consider “Puck”, after @/AnotherPlumbob, so I guess that kinda counts lol.
Q2: when was the last time you cried?
A2: Probably in my second-to-last year of high school. 2020 was a rough year.
Q3: do you have kids?
A3: nope and i don’t plan to have any.
Q4: do you use sarcasm a lot?
A4: I don’t really use sarcasm unless I need to.
Q5: what sports do you play/ have played?

Q7: eye color?
A7: Brown, with a sort of amber starburst colour
Q8: scary movies or happy endings?

Hi! Sorry to be the guy who is fun at parties! But upon seeing this post I realized/thought something 'wait, flags kind of originated with european kingdoms, no?', so I decided to fact check my assumption.
A brief history of flags: No one really knows where flags came from, though flag-like symbols have been described in civilizations such as 11th century B.Ce. China, and ancient Egypt and Rome¹.
And I realized some of these flags look, well, very Contemporary². And I understand indigenous people's aren't a thing of the past! There are thriving communities. So please, don't take this as me saying those flags aren't 'authentic' or whatever that might mean, I just wanted to see more about them, their origins, and whether or not people from those communities recognize them as Symbols representing them!
For example, the Anishinaabeg people, pre-colonization, used pictographs, and also the thunderbird is considered important to their creation mythos, so the thunderbird is often regarded a symbol for the Anishinaabeg. This post is already going to be pretty long- So I won't summarize the history of different symbols for these different indigenous groups, but I'll try my best to summarize the origin of these flags.
--
Māori: That is the Tino Rangatiratanga Flag of the Maori sovereignty movement. Recognised as the national Maori flag of Aotearoa by the NZ Cabinet in 2009. (Source.) Flag was designed "Sometime in 1980". Older than me! (Source.)
Kalaallit Nunaat: Also the flag of Greenland. It was adopted in 1985 and designed by Thue Christiansen. (Source.) Haudenosaunee: Also called the "flag of the Iroquois Confederacy". Designed by Rick Hill, a Tuscarora artist, along with Harold and Tim Johnson, father and son, who are Mohawk. Designed in 1980 for a lacrosse team. (Source.) (Fun fact: The Māori flag was also used by a sports team! The New Zealand Māori rugby league team.) Nunatsiavut: Became an official symbol in 2005. The colors are purposefully reminescent of the Labrador flag. (Source.) I actually cannot find any information on who designed the flag. Though this website has a lot of information on other first nation's flags. Australian Aboriginal: This flag actually inspired the Māori flag. Designed by Harold Thomas, a Luritja man, in 1970. (Source.) In 1995 it was recognized as an official flag of australia. January 2022, the Commonwealth of Australia acquired the copyright of the Aboriginal Flag. This makes me beyond mad. Although I cannot do much except for spread this information. More information about the copyright holders in the previous link. Harold Thomas was also a member of the Stolen Generations. Torres Strait Islands: Flag was designed by Bernard Namok, who passed away in 1993. (Source.) It was adopted in 1992. It was the the winning entry in a competition run by the Island Coordinating Council. The flag was legally recognized in 1995. (Source.)
Rapa Nui: Also called the Te Reva Reimiro. It was created in 1880. (For reference, the 50-Star US flag was adopted circa 1959.) Although its design has changed over the years. (Source.) (Source.)³
Kurdistan: Flag adopted around 1927. (Source.)⁴ Created by the Society for the Rise of Kurdistan in 1920. This one has lots and lots of variants. And is also adopted by different states. Sami: The first Sámi flag was designed by Sámi Politician Marit Stueng in 1962. The design was used locally in Kárašjohka. The first time a Sámi flag was officialy recognized was in 1986. (Source.) Ainu: Designed by Bikki Sunazawa in 1973 and was flown in the same year. (Source.) It is rarely seen at Ainu gatherings. In 2020, Bikki's son Jin Sunazawa claimed copyright ownership and requested disuse of the flag. (Source.) Mapuche: Also called the Wenufoye. 500 designs for it were presented in 1991. It was based on the Nagche regional flag. (Source.) A supposed flag/symbol/emblem was described in a 1569 poem!!! (La Araucana) And there is also the Guñelve, also called the Star of Arauco, it represents venus, but has been mistaken for the flower Drimys winteri, as it is also sacred to the Mapuche people. (Source.) Guaraní: Actually the flag for the Weenhayek, Tapiete and Guaraní people. It is the official flag for the Guaraní Charagua Iyambae autonomous territory. (Source.) (SVG on Wikipedia) The designers are sourced as the 'authorities of the National Assembly of the Guaraní People', it seems to have been designed sometime in 2015, and adopted in the same year, depending on what authority we are considering. There are many Guaraní flags! (Example 1) (Example 2)⁵ Comechingones: The flag is depicted as having the Cruz del Sur on the black, left side of the flag Here. There is also this more specific Comechingones flag listed on the same blog. A defunct link lists Silvio Alfredo Fernández as the designer. The flag linked in this post does not seem to be used in any wikipedia article, and I cannot find it used anywhere else with a reverse image search. (I'd suggest using the one with the Cruz del Sur on the other half?) Tehuelche: There are multiple Tehuelche flags! The one in the post is the Mapuche-Tehuelche flag (Source), officialy recognized in 1991. (Source 1.) (Source 2.) One of the Tehuelche flags is entirely white! There is also the Bandera del Pueblo Tehuelche de Santa Cruz. (Video about it here!)
Some more indigenous south-american peoples' flags Here, here, here, and here. (Sorry for not delving into these- We are running on a budget!)
And last, but not least:
Congo:
Tumblr media
It was adopted in 2006. Though a similar flag was flown from 1966 until 1971. (Source.) Couldn't find the designer's name.
Palestine:
Tumblr media
Used since 1920. It uses the pan-Arab colors. Israel outlawed it. (Source.) Couldn't find the designer's name. And as far as I know, since it was designed during the 1936 Arab Revolt, it's possible the designer will never be known.
Sorry for the long post. I just hope someone out there learned something new today, and I believe learning about indigenous peoples' cultures is important. Their history has been erased time and time again, I felt I should do my part to spread this information. Homework! (Or, things I'd recommend you research if you liked this post!): Looking into the meaning of certain symbols in these flags! Flags are all about semiotics! For example, the Comechingones' flags' stars represent the Cruz del Sur, it's a constelation that can only be seen in the southern hemisphere, and much like the North Star, it can be used to determine where the south is!

Flag | heraldry. Encyclopedia Britannica. Retrieved February 15, 2019. Smith, Whitney (1975). Flags through the ages and across the world. Internet Archive. New York. p. 41. ISBN978-0-07-059093-9. (Admittedly, copied from Wikipedia.)
As we may know, as the computer got more popular, many flags got digitalized and standardized, and a lot of governments have specific instructions on how to construct a flag, this is mostly a gut-feel, as I am not immune to bias. I'll admit that it was the Guarani flag that set off this instinct— As it has intricate patterns that are hard to sew and pastel-ish colors, which made me speculate about it being digital in origin.
3. The only wikipedia source is paywalled, and I am broke. Although I have trust in the people. So, if anyone wants to check it out for themselves: Cornejo, Cristobal; Salinas, Julio Hotu (6 September 2011). "Campaña promueve uso de banderas de pueblos originarios: Sepa qué significan". El Ciudadano (in Spanish). Retrieved 20 June 2020.
4. I do not speak Kurmanji, so once again, I trust the people. As per usual, it is what wikipedia cites- I am sorry if my research sounds lazy, I'm just trying to be as quick and as concise as possible. If I wanted to go into deep dives into each of these flags, I would try to track down more sources, though this post is very- Very long. If you do have any corrections feel free to do so in reblogs, I won't take any offense. Veroj, Sêid (17 December 2021). "Seîd Veroj/ Ala Kurdistanê; berhemê têkoşîna netewî ya miletê Kurd e û berê sed (100) sal hatîye çêkirin". Kovara Bîr (in Kurdish). Retrieved 28 December 2021.
5. Lists a now defunct website. :( It saddens me how I could not find a designer for many of these flags.
My deepest apologies for not posting every one of these link's information for redundancy- I understand that if these sites get wiped this information is lost, and I am not an archivist, and this post is long enough as is. If you want to do your part— Of course, if you have the time and energy, you could archive any of these in the waybackmachine. I'm sure it would be appreciated, and as long as you message me I can append the waybackmachine links in my post. Thank you for your attention, have an amazing day.
Seeing a lot of posts about the Palestinian flag, and it got me thinking about indigenous flags around the world.
