King of the Day!

Hello and welcome to my Christmas AUvent Calendar! Every day from now until the 24th I will be posting a ficlet that is 500-1500 from an AU I've done over the years.

All stories will be marked with the tag #12 aus of christmas so you can follow along as I will only be tagging my permanent list for this (it would get too confusing otherwise).

The last one on our list is: Steve is Tattoo Artist verse. You can read the story here. All links will be to the first chapter, but the chapter itself will have links to the rest of the story.

The title comes from the European tradition of if the [insert object here] in the cake you were king for the day (I learned about it in my French three decades ago so if I got wrong sorry!).

Steve was facing the dilemma of topping Eddie’s Christmas from last year. Where his band Corroded Coffin got their first gold record, which had gone platinum earlier this year. But if everything went right and Gareth didn’t forget his present to Eddie then he might just win.

But as it was right at that moment it was a disaster.

“What do you mean you lost my order?” Steve asked through gritted teeth. “I called confirmed it only yesterday and every week for the last three weeks!”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Are you sure you’re spelling ‘Buckley’ correctly? It’s B-U-C-K-L-E-Y. Yes with an E. Thank you!”

“No ma’am, I’m not saying that you’re dumb or anything of the sort,” he continued dryly. “I just wanted to make sure it was going to be here on time. It’s already out for delivery. Thank you!”

He set the receiver gently in its cradle and then picked it back up again. Once he heard the dial tone he slammed it several times for good measure.

“You do know that I’ve done this for the last five years,” Robin snarked from the entrance to tattoo shop, “as my job. I don’t know why you won’t let me do it for this.” She walked into the shop and leaned against the counter. “You’re just stressing yourself out over nothing.”

Steve laid his head on the desk with a sigh, letting the cool surface calm his rage. “I just wanted to make tonight special.”

She scooped up his hands in hers. “It will be special because he loves you. Now, let’s see it.”

He reached into his pocket and handed her a small red velvet box. She opened it and smiled fondly. It was perfect. It was white gold with ruby in the middle and framed by four black spinel gemstones, two large close to the ruby and two smaller stones on the outside.

Then she slipped it into her pocket. “I’ll just hold on to this for safe keeping. So what is the other thing you’re getting Eddie for Christmas? Because I know this is for after the gift giving.”

“Gareth is bringing it,” Steve said with a sigh. “Eddie is like a little kid looking for presents all the time and knows all my hiding spots.”

Robin laughed, because yeah. Steve’s boyfriend was like a kid when it came with presents, something Wayne had to warn him for when his birthday came up.

“I’ve been texting him nonstop reminding him to bring it,” he continued and then he handed her his phone. “Then he sent me this.”

It was a picture of Gareth in his car, a stack of presents in the passenger seat, and he’s giving the camera the middle finger. The caption read underneath, “I’ve got it! Quit your bitching!”

“Am I supposed to guess which one is yours to Eddie?” she asked rolling her eyes as she handed it back to him.

Steve rolled his eyes and jerk his head forward, holding his hands out like it was obvious. “Like the one wrapped differently then all the others?”

“Oh.”

The party was in full swing. Everyone was having fun, the booze was flowing, the food flying off the table and into happy mouths.

“I can’t believe you got me the entire new edition of the D&D manuals,” Eddie huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. “Like how am I supposed to compete with that?”

Steve kissed his cheek. “It’s not a competition, love. Despite what you and Gareth think.”

“Bah!” Eddie said. Then he got shy. “You did like your present, right?”

Steve tilted his to the side. Eddie had gotten him a custom apron that said, “King of this Castle” for him to wear while he was tattooing. “Of course I did. I loved it, baby. Chrissy is already trying to convince Robin and Vickie to get her and Argyle similar ones.”

Eddie shoved his hair in front of his face. “Yeah?”

Steve gently took the strand from him and tucked it behind his ear. “Yeah, sunshine. I promise.”

Robin gave him a pat on his shoulder as she passed by them.

It was time.

He took a deep breath and then grabbed his hand. “There’s one more present for you.”

Eddie cocked his head to the side and then his eyes went wide. “Oh!”

“Last year when I gave you my grandfather’s ring,” Steve said, cupping Eddie’s cheek, “I promised that I would get you a ring that was all your own.” He lifted his left hand. “There is only room for one more.” He tapped the ring finger.

“Stevie...” he breathed.

Suddenly he was aware that everyone was watching them as Steve got down on one knee.

“Would you do the honor of being my husband?” He pulled out the red velvet box Robin had slipped him when she passed.

Eddie held his hands mouth, too overjoyed to speak and nodded. Steve slipped the ring on his finger. It fit perfectly and perfectly fit the rest of Eddie’s rings as Steve intended.

“I love you.”

Eddie pulled him to his feet and kissed him senseless. “Merry Christmas, Stevie.”

A cheer went up as Steve blushed and pressed their foreheads together. “Merry Christmas, Eds.”

“Does this make me the royal consort?” Eddie asked with a grin.

Steve threw his head back and laughed. He loved this man so deeply. “Yeah, babe. You absolute drama queen!”

Everyone laughed.

I can't stop thinking abt the gem au help

So... In steve universe the crack in volleyball form is caused by a lot of traumas, and now i can't stop thinking that if the Ace death events happens in this au, the crack in luffy form would start in his gem that is in his chest, but also would seems like his heart is broken

So in the SU universe, volley ball's crack wasn't initially caused by trauma, it just kept manifesting with it. Its implied that Pink hurt Volleyball and gave her that scar. i gave Sabo a crack on his face too, to illustrate that he was hurt at first, but now the scar remains because he has not been able to heal from the event yet.

instead of a crack though, i gave luffy 4 marks that are coming out of his gem. my thought process for it was that it was some kind of corruption coming from the trauma of it all. I was thinking about Spinel from the show's mascara that claws around her face, so like its like that but on his chest and also not mascara but like idk what it is.

idk, thinking back on it, i probably could've done it better with actual cracks instead of the stretch that whatever i have now is.

Last sunrise, A toast to the end.

(I wrote a ficlet)

Somewhere, on a planet far from the Homeworld, an Aquamarine and a Spinel are quiet in a base they built together, In a home that the Aquamarine had once refused to acknowledge, a place the Spinel felt they could be themselves. 

And they know that the next battle may be the last, now that neither side is holding back, now that some pieces of a shattered lapis lay in the desert sands. 

And Scott isn’t with them, but they know that the Sapphire is grieving, watched as he picked up as many pieces he could, and walked back to a flower valley the two of them had once called home.

The Flower Agate would not be helping them anymore, but Scott would, until his last shreds of anger had dimmed, until he felt as though enough damage had been done, for all the damage they did to him, and the Lapis. And that would have to be enough.

The gems of the Crastle would help, would fight beside them, searching for an end to the fight, a final end to the battle, and a new beginning for peace. The carnelian would fight with them, along with the Lime pearl.

The sun rose, and the two of them knew, knew that this was the last day, maybe their last day. 

And they danced.

They spun, in the elegant way that they had created for themselves. A goodbye from the Aquamarine, but a reassurance from the Spinel. 

Two gem’s that ordinarily wouldn’t have been compatible, inseparable by the time they spent together.

The sun rose, and the final battle would be today.

On another side of their lively planet, an emerald and a Ruby thought of similar ideas.

They stood on an altar, and the ruby was scared, terrified of the thought of losing the gem they had fought so hard for. The gem that they had joined in betraying the homeworld with, both tired of the system that seemed so unnecessary to keep.

The Amethyst wasn’t with them, away in that swampy area, an area that the Ruby didn’t really enjoy visiting. The Amethyst was an ally, and that would have to be enough. 

The Bismuth was at the highest point. Maybe sleeping this last day away, or watching to see what their enemies may have been doing.

And The topaz staying with their Amethyst would fight against them, they knew, but the temporary peace, the singing birds around them, convinced them to refrain from doing anything about it.

Their last ally, the Blue quartz, stayed within sight, standing on the neighboring hill, and watching as the first rays of sunshine lit up their sky, signaling the end, what could easily be the last day for anyone.

The ruby and the Emerald spun, vaguely reminiscent of when the Emerald had asked the Ruby to cut him, to poof him. To leave the mark. 

And the Ruby only ever knew how to obey. Despite how much he hated it.

And the Red Diamond rose, just as the sun rose.

And everyone knew, no matter what faction, no matter what betrayals and traitors, no matter who was consciously aware or not.

They all knew.

This was the final Sunrise.

Their last Day.

Headcanon Voice: Mabel from Minecraft: Story Mode

Mabel Maples is a character in the Unikitty: Big Bright World series. She is a citizen of the Unikingdom who makes friends with Unikitty. Her voice is similar to Mabel's voice in Minecraft: Story Mode.

Physical Appearance: Mabel is a maple tree being (or a Stumplet, as she calls herself) who is Unikitty's age. Her head appears to be a sideways stump, which her face is carved into. She has light brown eyes with carved "eyelashes" and a small circular nose. She often dabs sparkles onto her face. She has small red maple leaves for hair, and her "space buns" are trimmed to look like larger maple leaves. Her torso resembles a tree trunk with the bark poking out near its bottom. Her arms resemble branches, as they have little maple leaves growing on their sides. Her legs resemble smaller trunks, and her feet resemble roots.

Personality: Mabel is a very open-minded girl. She listens to other people when they need to talk to her. She's good-natured and imaginative, and she always puts her best foot forward. She's quite a hugger as well, and she's known by her friends as giving some firm and strong hugs. Mabel likes to listen to music and learn about it. She plays the clarinet and the piccolo. Mabel‘s super interested in marching bands and what they do, and she is a part of the band at her school. She hopes to become a drum major. 

Mabel is optimistic, walking through life with a smile on her face. She loves to entertain others and find and spread joy. She never shies away from going all out. For this reason, she does whatever she can to make sure people stay entertained, at her band concerts and other occasions. She’s determined to leave a seed of herself in others’ memories, if you know what I mean. Before her life is over, she’ll make her mark on the world, and she swears by it.

Mabel does things with lots of energy, but it’s hard for her to recognize when she’s going too full-throttle. Sometimes, she has to remind herself to slow down.

Trivia

Mabel looks a bit similar to Spinel from Steven Universe and Circus Baby from Five Nights at Freddy's, but this is all coincidental.

Her interests came from Jezabat's idea to create a character who is in band, inspired by her best friend @ra1nb0w-ph0en1x.

One of Mabel's instruments is the piccolo because most professional piccolos are made out of wood.

Her design takes inspiration from the Whittles from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the Mario Party series.

Mabel is sensitive to heat.

If a bug bites her, she'll begin to feel weak and woozy.

Mabel is a lesbian.

Mabel and her family moved to the Unikingdom from Botania when she was about five.

Mabel also appears in Jezabat's Cuckoo Land Pals AU, in which she is an attendee at Camp Action and Artsy Unikitty's love interest.

Jezabat pictures her and Unikitty having a romantic interest in each other in Big Bright World as well.

Relationships

Caine and Bubble: Flexi finds both Caine and Bubble to be entertaining hosts, if somewhat off-putting (mainly Bubble).

Pomni: Initially, Flexi had trouble connecting with Pomni due to the latter's anxiety and desire to escape the Circus. After a heart-to-heart (which would take place after Kaufmo's funeral), Flexi assures Pomni that she's not alone, and will always stick by her side.

Ragatha: Flexi sees Ragatha as an older sister, and always comes to her for emotional support. Ragatha is also the only one (except for maybe Caine) who knows about Flexi's unstable mood swings and depressive episodes.

Jax: Flexi and Jax have a prickly relationship. Flexi tries to be friendly towards Jax, but is shut down by his narcissistic behavior. The few times Flexi gets angry, it's usually due to Jax's shenanigans.

Gangle: Whenever Gangle's mask gets broken, Flexi is the first one to comfort her. During this process, she also angrily demands who broke Gangle's mask in the first place, and threatens the culprit until they apologize.

Kinger: Flexi has been stated to be entertaining and grounding to Kinger. While she won't admit it, Flexi finds kinship with Kinger due to seeing a bit of herself in him with his erratic behavior.

Zooble: Flexi finds it hard to be around Zooble due to their rude and irritable personality. However, this doesn't stop her from incessantly trying to befriend them, even if her attempts are mostly futile.

Kaufmo: Not much is known about Flexi's relationship with Kaufmo, but it is implied to have been positive due to her grief during his funeral.

Trivia

Along with the aforementioned inspirations, Flexi was also inspired by Mommy Long Legs from Poppy Playtime and Spinel from Steven Universe.

Flexi's voice claim would be Sarah Stiles.

Flexi is neurodivergent (autism, ADHD, and BPD).

Before entering the Circus, Flexi's real name was Alexis, and she looked like this:

If Flexi was in @revolver-d's The Amazing Digital Guardians AU, Flexi's epithet/title would be "Playful Polymorph," she would keep her elasticity and prehensile hair, and her fighting style would be a mixture of Spinel, Luffy, and Kamala Khan.

oh my god im really gonna update my gem au for the first time in years all because i just got some asks about it klsdjfskldjal IM A LITTLE EMBARRASSED TO POST THESE BECAUSE THEYRE SO OLD but i realized these backstory drawings for asl never saw the light of day lol and i guess i never really went into depth with my hcs for these gem’s “purpose” or whatever haha so theres that under cut that i surprisingly remember pretty well

for the sake of this gem au op-verse, gem colonies and humans kinda coexist with eachother as a sort of compromise for the aliens to occupy the world but they still have their own separate societies that a gem breaking away from would be significant (i.e sabo). anyway moving on.

sabo/labradorite were meant to go alongside sapphires’ to assist in their future vision since earth (or whatever the op planet is called) is very unpredictable. sapphires can see the all the possible events and timelines in detail but cannot dictate what is most likely to happen or what would be the more favorable decision to lead to a more favorable outcome. labradorites fill in this gap by having all of their powers focus solely on instinct/intuition. they cannot see the future or know why they are making their decisions but they and the power of a sapphire guarantees that they can make an intuitive but informed decision.

tl;dr in really simplified metaphorical terms: sapphires are the map that shows every possible branching path while labradorites are the compass telling you which way you should go.

similarly to su and op canon, both gems are high ranking in the social hierarchy with labradorites and sapphires often walking around with their arms linked like theyre one single unit. one thing leads to another and sabo grows to detest his noble standing and becomes unable to do his job properly (since the future feeling is based on intuition of whats “good” or “bad” for the gem, sabo’s prediction often wanted them to be pointed in the other noble’s gems demise).

fearing retaliation and no longer wanting to take part in this kind of society, sabo leaves and meets ace. its basically like op canon from here.

ace/fire agate is kinda similar to the whole rose quartz situation in su canon. roger was a gem that caused a massive uprising that caused every other fire agate to be bubbled..........and eventually shattered. ace survived because, as a favor, rouge was a human that basically harbored these gems as fugitives. in desperate measures, the others she was protecting were shattered and she poofed one last gem to save and pass hands to garp. blah blah blah its like op canon from here on.

fire agates are kinda similar to holly blue in su where they are both meant to be leaders that kept other gems in line by being stern and mean. ace’s initial attitude is similar to this until he mellows out beyond his preprogramming of his gem.

luffy...........is special. he is an accident formed from a kindergarten that split due to an earthquake. the leftover drippings from spinel, rubies, and a hint of jasper miraculously re-implanted itself into the ground in a way that could actually incubate a gem, making luffy. red coral, like its real life counterpart, is technically not a gemstone. its..................coral. whatever luffy is technically doesn’t exist so he was dubbed “red coral” since his hole was more lower down on the cliffside of the kindergarten in a sea cave and the leftover goop ended up becoming coral like crystal fixtures.

sabo and ace find luffy after sabo gets a super strong future feeling to go to the kindergarten.

btw, names in this au for the gems are a thing because gems who have defected from gem society often take on human qualities as an act of rebellion! so they often give themselves names or reform with scars as a type of decorative marking in ways as if they were human.

Okay so here's what I'm thinking for what people can be in the garden au

George, Ponk, Niki, and Hannah can all be the garden plant types

Foolish, Sam, Fundy, Purpled, and Jack can all be tinkerers

Eret, Karl, Puffy, and Slimecicle can be dewdrops

Philza, Punz, and Quackity can be avians

Techno and Skeppy can be miners

Sapnap, Bad, And, and everyone else can be human

I tried not to include people that you said were already in a category, like bench trio, but I hope you liked my ideas!

I love this, let me try to describe them-

George: mushroom 🍄. his skin is the colour of a mushroom stalk, and his hair is red with white spots (but you usually can't see it under his mushroom cap-), he has natural darker rings around his eyes making it look like he's wearing goggles. Moss cape

Ponk: lemon 🍋. he still has his tan skin tone to match the bark of a lemon tree. He has white hair with yellow tips to match a lemon flower- yellow eyes- yellow head covering and mask as well

(changing the order for a specific reason :3) Hannah: pink rose 🌷. She has skin that is a very pale baby pink with darker natural blushes (so- it looks more like actual skin and not a sunburn-), with brown hair that matches the shade of rose thorns, but her roots are green like a rose stem.

Niki, but y'know what- she's a garden dewdrop mix: lotus flower 🌸. Her skin is a pale white with baby blue markings all over, looking almost like natural tattoos of flowers. Her hair is a pale pink, with the roots being white

(Onto the tinkerers) Foolish: as a tinkerer he looks fairly similar to Tubbo, with his golden skin, but he has emerald green eyes.

Sam: he has a copper skin tone, but because he's not a kid (once tinkers start maturing this starts to happen- it's not happened with Foolish since he keeps himself clean 24/7) his skin is getting more green and rusted looking (like the statue of liberty-). He has built himself a mask/helmet that helps him reconize the parts he's looking for faster, and he has four mechanical legs he uses to climb around

Fundy: copper looking skin, but he wears some faux fur he took from a human over himself as a cloak.

Purpled: tinker and garden mix. He has purple skin! But he can still use electricity magic, and has antenna with his pale white hair.

(to the dewdrops) Puffy: she's the colour of mud, but like Ranboo has vitiligo making her brown and white

Karl: garden and dewdrop mix. He's a mixture of loads of colours, and the colors on him actually move and change based on his mood because he's part dewdrop! Like water color paint!

Slimecicle: dewdrop and minor mix. He's goop. He's sludge. He came from underground. Dap him up!

Eret: all of them. He's descended from every single type of garden person. That's why he's trusted by all of them to lead. He's the most human looking because of this, but has completely white eyes that can change colour based off his mood

(now to avians) Philza: crow. He's covered in black feathers, and has wings attached to his arms

Punz: dove. Covered in white feathers

Quackity: avian and dewdrop mix!!!!! DUCK

(Minor time-) Techno: very much so bigger then the others, while most garden people have an average height of 4 inches, minors have an average height of 6 inches- Techno is a spinel jewl that is 6.7 inches tall, and very muscular

Skeppy: diamond. He's 6.1 inches tall, but less muscular then Techno, and more lanky in his height (he's still muscular- just- not as much as Techno-)

Then there's the humans. That are just. Humans. Yep.

Hello! I was wondering if you could show me how to draw spinels hair in steps its a bit hard to look at a ref and look back

Do you mean my AU Spinel Bunny? I’m going to go ahead and assume that’s who you mean lmao.

Firstly, I’d recommend you set up your workspace so you can both draw and have a reference next to it (either on the same canvas, same screen, a second monitor, or even just on your phone) It makes things SO much easier.

Her hair is similar enough to canon Spinel’s, just a lot poofier. It has that wonderfully confusing cartoon logic going on as well, something she absolutely does on purpose.

It also looks more like hair and less like... whatever Spinel has going on.

So here’s my process.

I start by just sketching teardrop shapes for her pigtails and marking on her head where her hairline should be.

Starting from the middle and working out, I draw her hair slicked back on her head, it’s pretty messy so it doesn’t have to look perfect. Around where her ears would be, the hair sticks out in little tufts.

Her pigtails are pretty straightforward. They’re just messy teardrop shaped puffs of hair, they can be as detailed or simple as you like.

And it’s a little long in the back as well.

Just have fun! She’s a little hellion and I love drawing her.

Five Years of Universe Falls Celebration!

Well ya’ll, this September will mark 5 years, half a decade since I started writing Universe Falls. And in light of that, I wanted to share that milestone with all of you with another celebration! The whole zine thing last year went a little... less great than expected, so I decided to make this announcement a lot sooner so people can get started working on submissions for it a lot sooner! 

So how’s this years celebration going to work, you ask? Well its sort of similar to what was done for the 3rd year anniversary. Each week of September will have a different UF-related theme and for each of those themes, you’re free to create whatever you’d like in line with them (fics, art, HCs, general thoughts/feelings/opinions, any other creative work you’d like to submit). This year’s themes are all focused on what I consider to be the very heart of UF itself, its characters, specifically certain sets of them. Those sets (and the weeks that fall in line with them) are as follows: 

Week 1 (Aug. 30-Sept. 5): Mystery Kids: We’ll start the month off celebrating everyone’s favorite plucky set of precocious youngsters! The focus here is on our beloved Mystery Kids: Dipper, Mabel, Steven, and Connie (and Pacifica if you’d like to include her in the group as well). This also includes any of the MK specific fusions: Stevonnie, Stepper, Maven, Convenper, Dipevebel, Mabonnven, Stonipbel, and so on ^_^

Week 2 (Sept. 6-12): Gems: A week to celebrate Gemkind, both good and bad, Crystal and Homeworld. Anything goes here, from Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, to Lapis and Peridot and Jasper, to the Off Colors, the Diamonds’ Pearls, Bismuth, even Gems that haven’t appeared at all yet like Spinel or Amber! You can focus on your favorite(s) or on a bunch of them, whichever you’d like, its all free game. And once again, this includes any and all fusions, even fusions that might not happen in UF canon itself. 

Week 3 (Sept. 13-19): Humans: To celebrate all of the unique and varied humans that appear throughout UF, from Stan and Ford, to Greg, to Wendy and Soos, Lars and Sadie, even the most obscure side characters are all game here! You can write or draw them interacting any way you please :) 

Week 4 (Sept. 20-26) Villains: A time to honor the evil side of UF. You can have your pick of Bill Cipher himself, or maybe you favor the Great Diamond Authority instead! Or perhaps on a lesser scale you’d like to have some fun with the likes of Gideon or Jasper, even a more obscure baddie like a corrupted Gem or one of GF’s several antagonistic monsters. There’s plenty for you to choose from when it comes to UF!

Bonus week! (Sept. 27-Oct. 3) Animals/Magical/Inter-dimensional creatures: Because there’s so many other characters besides just those four groups this is kind of the catch-all for everything else. Maybe you’d like to create a tribute to our beloved pink friends Lion and Waddles? Or examine any theories about the role the Axolotl might play in UF’s future? Or draw a lovely portrait of Jheselbraum the Unswerving? You’re free to tackle whatever doesn’t fall within the above groups right here ^_^

Now, keep in mind that you’re free to work within whatever AU or set of circumstances you’d like for each of these weeks. Like say you wanted to do week one with the base UF MK, but then week 2 you wanted to do something with the Swap Crystal Gems, that’s fine! Feel free to be as free and flexible as you’d like with this. You can also do things like pay homage to your favorite pre-existing scenes from UF or make predictions to upcoming scenes and such. Also, these themes aren’t mutually exclusive. If you’d like to write a drabble that involves a little crossover between these weeks, such as the MK interacting with one of the bad guys or something, that’s perfectly fine! It’s something that can be released in either week so that’s totally up to you. :) Most ships (appropriate ones at least) are also acceptable to be factored in here. 

As for the specifics when it comes to submissions, you can submit stuff either to me personally or you can post things to your own blog and tag me or PM me links since I wanna collect everyone’s work and show it off! Or if you’re on the UF Discord, I’ll be reopening the UF celebration channel for submissions to be posted there! But for now, you’ve got about a month to start planning so go ahead and get to it! I’ll be immensely looking forward to seeing what you all come up with this time around (especially in light of UF’s most recent bundle of game-changing chapters... ;) As always, if you have any questions about all this, feel free to ask! Anyone’s welcome to participate so please, don’t  hesitate to let your creative juices flow! Have fun! :D
