trying to get into the dlc with my caster/ice-bonk build and i. am. struggling. mohg isn't even that hard of a boss, cause at the first phase he literally just gives you full cast-a-tiny-moon time with he's playing latin math and in the second he generally lets you ran away so you can cast comets at his face
i even resorted to the tryhard flask setup and i still mess up the spells and flasks at points. also. i keep getting locked in animations and i can't fucking move. game. pls. let. me. roll-cancel.
I AM STRUGGLING
how do pure casters keep track of everything, i'm in awe of y'all
#elden ring#this isn't a âgame badâ post#this is âpure caster builds that can pull it off are praiseworthyâ post#the problem is that my character is good looking (back đ) and also magic is cool#and the dlc added some pretty neat spells and spell-related items that i want to use#so imma keep beating my head at the wall#but like#remember the memory slots order#remember the flask slots order#remember how long you're locked in the animation for each spell#on top of knowing the boss' attacks and when its openings are#some of y'all are insane for pulling caster builds off#respect

People who protest against bizarre multiclass choices just donât get it sometimes I WANT to combine the hubris of a wizard with the innate superiority of a sorcerer but with the thematic elements of a lawful good warlock with an evil patron
#Rambles#DnD#Anna-Rue#I think abt my girlâs build a lot itâs like a snack for my brain#1 sorc / 4 wizardâŚ. divine soul/divinationâŚ#built as a control/debuff caster. but wait. whatâs that. literally every spell known to man to protect her from getting hit#Mage Armor / Shield / Mirror Image / Sanctuary / Protection from Evil/Good#my girls going to Barovia in the wizard equivalent of an overdressed child on a snow day#my only hope is that her potential/eventual demise is at the hands of her -1 wisdom. as was my intent

So funny that I'm like "oh yeah I'm an int build guy" and I have more faith builds than intelligence builds. Well I feel like pure intelligence is the way to go over the other options and faith pairs well with a lot of different stats.
#more of a caster guy in general I guess#I never do pure physical builds#I did more faith builds and have more faith build ocs for dark souls 3 as well...#but magic kind of sucked in dark souls 3 and there wasn't much benefit to doing a split int build#faith was mostly support spells and sucked offensively so it paired perfectly with strength or dex#going pure faith kind of sucked because of this

I keep forgetting to make a proper post introducing the character I'm playing, but suffice it to say, "I need you alive, you need me strong" is honestly a pretty convincing argument for letting a vampire drink your blood to a woman who has one (1) more hp than the squishy wizard, and who has one (1) cantrip that does damage and zero (0) leveled spells that do damage. That's it. That's all she's got. She's got Eldritch Blast and a rapier. She is a support caster, and the spell of support she's cast tonight is "become juicebox".
#roddy plays bg3#roddy plays bg3: mae#this is in no way a combat optimized build. or an anything optimized build#i MIGHT permit her a second damaging cantrip at level 4. maybe.#tbh. her lower con i'm realizing is an issue for support caster reasons#in that it's gonna be harder for her to maintain concentration on spells#i think the next step is not to increase her con but just figure out how to make her harder to hit#7th level may be the first time i have her take a damaging spell bc Blight is my favorite spell#and i can't get it on my cleric so i've gotta Blight it up now#perhaps. at 5th level. i may permit her Vampiric Touch. bc that is also a spell i really like

suppression spell that causes excruciating pain every time the victim attempts to use magic
suppression spell that drains away the victimâs power and gives it to the caster
suppression spell that latches on to anyone who tries to help the victim remove it
suppression spell that leaves a mark unique to the caster, showing exactly who overpowered the victim
or that marks the victim with a ring around their neck, displaying their powerlessness for all to see
suppression spell that blocks the flow of magic through the victimâs body like a dam, eventually killing them as the pressure builds and builds
permanent magic-suppression spells :)

Valleys and hollows bottom, clough, combe, dale, den, ditch, glen, grave, hole, hope, slade â Examples: Cowdale, Denton, Greenslade, Hoole, Longbottom, Thorncombe
NOTE
These elements are all found in many different spellings. Old English beorg âhill, moundâ, for example, turns up as bar-, berg-, -ber, -berry, -borough, and -burgh. Only one form is given above (Thornborough).
Several items have the same form, but differ in meaning because they come from different words in Old English. For example, -ey has developed in different ways from the two words ea âriverâ and eg âislandâ. It is not always easy deciding which is the relevant meaning in a given place name.
This resource does not distinguish between forms which appear in different parts of a place name. Old English leah âforest, gladeâ, for example, sometimes appears at the beginning of a name (Lee- or Leigh-), sometimes at the end (-leigh, -ley), and sometimes alone (Leigh) (K. Cameron, 1961).

I think Brennan did something interesting with the Porter and Gorgug scene in the last episode. Porter is by all appearances a competent Barbarian teacher. He understands the role of Rage and its mechanical combat benefits, and he even recognizes how Gorgug uses Rage to protect those he cares about. But he doesn't understand how multiclassing into a caster fits into that framework.
And it's true! In 5e you can't cast or concentrate on spells in a Rage. But-- Artificers work a little different than other casters! Alchemist Elixirs and Arcane Cannons aren't technically spells. Arcane Armor just works. And so does the Steel Defender.
Of any caster I think the Artificer is probably the best-suited to multiclass Barbarian because their key subclass features are largely not spells. But it also runs into the problem of requiring multiple high stats. Barbarians already want high STR and CON, and Artificers need INT for their spells and spell saves.
And so there's this narrative tension here. Brennan the DM obviously wants to let his player have fun with the character build-- embracing the creative artificer side of himself is a great character moment for Gorgug, bearer of the tin flower. Someone who has always channeled Rage to protect those he cares about but who has also been called to create and preserve beauty.
And yet mechanically, it's a difficult build. We didn't see Gorgug cast anything in the Night Yorb battle, as far as I recall? And in-universe, classes are a formally recognized thing that require approval. But Gorgug can't be the kind of Barbarian that Porter wants him to be. So he has to show that he can be a different kind of Barbarian-- one whose magic integrates and synergizes with his Rage rather than opposing it.
We see Gorgug still insecure about his homunculus and about the solar lasso, even though these are objectively impressive feats. So it's not a skill issue but an internal conflict-- it's only once Gorgug reconciles and synthesizes his magic with his Barbarian side that the in-world powers that be will recognize him for all of who he is.
#fantasy high#fantasy high junior year#dimension 20#dimension 20 spoilers#fantasy high junior year spoilers#gorgug thistlespring#and just to be totally clear this is not a criticism of zac the player! this move made sense for the character#and it set up this great internal conflict for the character to navigate#i'm just remarking on how brennan and zac are using the rules of the system to produce an in-world conflict for the character#which is super fascinating

I do want to say, just in general, that I genuinely think the fandom sorely underestimates Essek in combat because of the specific types of combat we saw him in.
The Nein's caster contingent was so broken by the end that Matt had to build combats specifically designed to hinder a wide range of high level casters, which meant a lot of counterspells and anti-magic. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the reasons Aeor was the setting for the last arc. Essek also has a lot of AOE concentration spells, and that's just not a good move with that many people on the playing fields. On a meta level, DM's curse made him less effectual when using ranged attack spells, but his support casting is clutch. The dunamancy wizard schools are generally very strong subclass options, regardless of stats, and he's got features of both, for no goddamn reason, just because Matt could. He is still a glass cannon but between Mage Armor, Shield, a likely Mote of Possibility, and Chronal Shift he's probably not going down immediately.
In conclusion:
#if you actually get mean on this post I will block you. I am sick of the slander.#anyway l15 essek was built to be a decent (not difficult! but decent!) fight for THE NEIN AS A WHOLE at l11 or 12#his build is actually very strong! I am sick of the slander!#essek thelyss#cr meta#critical role

Hi there!
First of all, I just wanted to say thanks for being an amazing D&D players and a very kind and open person t the many fans like myself who saw you for the first time in Downfall and were amazed. I wish I got to play with people like you when I play and DM.
I was wondering about something. Ayden is a multi classing masterpiece and I wanted to know if you have any tricks for building a solid multi class that is both interesting and has a fair amount of powerful abilities. Every time I have tried my characters end up not good at anything or really good at a single thing thats not relevant.
Okay! Thatâs all! Thanks for being really cool and I hope you have a great day!
Well firstly thank you. Iâm def gonna deep dive Ayden, but for multi-classing in general I will sort of talk my philosophy. When multi classing it is important to start with what you are hoping to achieve. I personally like multiclasses because I think it tells the story of a character. Mechanically though thereâs a few things to think about. Is the character strictly martial a mix or a primary spell caster? If youâre a primary spell caster then if youâre heavily multiclassing you are likely trading away access to 9th level spells at minimum or simply grabbing something like spell points or a warlock pact. With Ayden being alongside the Archheart and Matron I felt like we had pretty decent 9th level spell access so I wasnât too worried on that front and instead could focus on being as good of a support character as I could manage. A full caster multiclass will still get 9th level spells slots so your spells that scale based on level are still going to be powerful.
Martial or mixed spell casters multiclass builds are not as limited by the spell access issues full casters encounter but do encounter the same feat/ability score issues.
In terms of overall philosophy, first level dips can give a character an unusual saving throw proficiency or skills that might compliment a build. I look for abilities that compliment each other so for Ayden having guiding bolt (proficiency times a day from druid) and commanding rally (proficiency times a day from knight of the crows feat) let him shoot a bolt and then have someone follow up with a free attack with advantage 6 times a day. Look for combos that might take 2 separate 1 class builds working together to achieve, that you might be able to do pull off as a single character. Also coming from 3.5 I am a firm believer in feats. Feats allow you to customize your character in unique ways that can really shine when multiclassing.
And finally have fun! I am a huge nerd and enjoy pouring over books trying to find interesting combos or figure out how to make an idea I have work better, but to be honest few campaigns go from 1-20 so if you wanna play around with multi classes just do it!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! SIAT drarry?
Draco rolls over and looks at Harry. "What are you going to do after we graduate?"
"Be your kept man," he answers instantly.
Draco rolls his eyes. "Sure. You have your own money, you know."
"It's better when it's yours," he says with a grin. "I don't know, maybe try to actually get picked up on a gliding team, like Fleur. Being an auror still sounds cool, but I don't want to go right to training. Are you doing to go straight to studying to be a barrister?"
He huffs and looks back up at the ceiling. "I don't know. That's why I'm asking, I guess."
Harry waits.
"I got an offer for a charms apprenticeship," he says.
"You get lots of offers," Harry points out. "Why's this one different?"
"It's with Mistress Araya," he says, trying not to sound too excited. "She's - really good. She builds charms, and others too, I guess, she has more spells credited to her than anyone else alive."
It's intimidating too. He's a great caster, no point in pretending otherwise, and he's creative with applying the magic he has available. But Mistress Araya is not one that deals with creative application. She's a believer in precise application and if there does not exist a spell that does exactly what she wants, she creates one.
Harry kisses the tip of his nose. Draco hadn't even noticed him moving. "You know your parents don't care. You'll get around to taking the exams and it's not exactly like your dad is eyeing retirement."
It would be easier if they cared. Then he could say no and blame it on them and not on being afraid of looking stupid in front of one of the greatest masters of his craft.
"Yeah," he says, then reaches up to pull Harry down on top of him.
He has time. He'll figure it out later.
There are currently more pressing matters to attend to.

Some motherFUCKER called Marcilleâs practical magic skills questionable and Tumblr refreshed before I could finish reading the goddamn post
(Very good points otherwise about Laiosâ general party makeup and Kabruâs interpretations of this I wanna see the rest )
And listen
LISTEN
Full graduate of magic academy, renowned researcher, Learned Every Single Spell She Ever Used For The Dungeon Overnight, WENT TOE TO TOE WITH THE LITERAL DUNGEON LORD ON SPELLS NO ONE HAS SEEN BEFORE WHILE SAID DUNGEON LORD IS ACTIVELY CONNECTED TO INFINITE MAGIC Marcille Donato
Marcille Donato did fucking nothing to deserve being questioned like this
Her practical DUNGEON skills are a little questionable (she did die her first time out) but thatâs because sheâs still running the standard rulebook everyone Except Laios and Senshi have been using like âbring own rationsâ and âdo not worry for health and safety of monstersâ
Sheâs even better at explaining magic to Laios specifically, because Falin tried and failed at that preseries and Marcille gives him a single lesson and he can do healing spells
She doesnât perform support and healing the same way Falin does because sheâs a combat caster, not a support, and her main job is Explosions and DPS - thatâs why they have two casters in the same group, they have different specialties and yeah, sheâs being treated as interchangeable by her party because she can also cast the spells outside of her specialty
(Also the way Falin does her healing spells is actually super unsafe so itâs not even that Marcille canât heal the same way itâs an intentional choice not to)
Marcille UNDERSELLS her competence significantly but because literally no one else in the current party understands magic even a little
(And before that only Falin ever did understand)
They just assume sheâs bragging instead
Sheâs literally in the process of planning to build her own dungeon From Scratch as a fucking experiment to see what makes the immortality magic work
Not a tiny sprite dungeon. Full thing.
This is literally the problem with her practical dungeon skills, she thinks of all the monsters and threats of the dungeon as configurable challenges; sheâs playing Rollercoaster Tycoon but the show is playing Slime Rancher
Tbh I think she and Shuro are the two highest levelled characters from the old party, and theyâre both at least 5-10 levels above the others - Shuro is always the kill shot, Marcille is the nuke
#dungeon meshi#marcille donato#marcille dungeon meshi#but seriously if you know the post i wanna find it again

for this (first) spotlight group, who is in what class in D&D/RPG? Like who's a healer/cleric, bard, rogue/thief, fighter/barbarian, wizard/warlock/magic user etc etc,
Danny the Boss: Wizard
Danny would wanna be a wizard. After watching the Overlord series, he grew a fancy to the mc Ainz ooal gown. And is dead set at attempting to make a build based off the cool OP spell-caster. Plus heâd rather not work up a sweat and instead cast spells from the sidelines.
Harumu the Homewrecker: Cleric
Harumu would be the cleric of the team, and would be awfully OP. The reason being none other than him appraising himself for having unmatched beauty above all other peasants. He shanât worship a god when he could just believe in himself.
Lynx the Harpy: Bard
As a harpy heâd gravitate towards being a bard. Simply due to his joy for singing and using the gift his ancestors gave him to bewitch his poor enemies to their deaths. He could just snatch them up with his talons and airdrop them but whereâs the fun in that?
Nokka the Husband: Barbarian
This is self explanatory, this manâs favorite weapon is his hands. Would wear brass knuckles and automatically pummel anybody to death. In the team heâs the most hotheaded and stubborn, as he just wants to be at home with his wife. And nothing would ever get in the way of that.

Lost Pages loves grimoires. The Book of Gaub (2021) is their most ambitious grimoire to date. Itâs an expansion of the systemless magic system initially laid out in Wonder & Wickedness and Marvels & Malisons. Casters can cast one of these spells for every level they are; they can ignore the casting rules as well, as the risk of catastrophes (of which the book provides 100 horrific examples that serve as both a warning and an invitation). There is also a bunch of monsters, adventure hooks and magic items as well.
The main attraction, though, is the hand of Gaub, or, more accurately, the seven fingers of Gaub, which amount to seven different collections of seven magic spells. Gaub is not really defined, but we can intuit from the awful nature of the magic here that whatever it is, it isnât pleasant. So we have the Finger Under the Floorboards and the Finger That is Not There and the Finger Gnawed to the Bone and so on. Each is written by a different author â I donât recognize most of the names aside of Lost Pagesâ own Paolo Greco and Charlie Ferguson-Avery (Into the Wyrd and Wild), but thatâs OK since there is no clear credit for who wrote what anyway.
The result is extremely grimoire-ish. The names of spells are deeply obscure: âDeartuate,â âFilodictate,â âVisamnesium.â Most are accompanied by an evocative micro-fiction. The spell descriptions, however, cut through the foggy obfuscation with clear prose. That last spell, for instance, creates, after a week of labor, a fixed sigil within a building or structure that will erase all memory of the place and what happens there when a person sets eyes on it. Thatâs not super horrible, though. But âPamphagousâ is: that causes the victim to have a ceaseless hunger for the duration of the spell, and to eat anything within reach, even if it would kill them; theyâll rise as hungry undead if they die while under the spell. Now thatâs nasty.
