At this point, it doesn't sound like a deal can be reached any other way, but I've been wrong before.

losing it at him talking about knockoff merch with his pr officer (who doesn't speak spanish) sitting right next to him
– When I arrived at Interlagos, I saw all the street vendors selling knockoff merch and thousands of argentinians saying "Give me a Colapinto cap! A t-shirt!". Only one vendor had it and he said "I traveled by car, they confiscated all my caps, so I don't have caps but I have t-shirts!", we were like "how did you do it then?!" and he said "I wore all 150 t-shirts!". There was the Colapinto t-shirt, all argentinians going crazy! He sold them out! – What a genius. It's incredible. I'm sure the sold out was insane. The amount of people was impressive, I've never seen something like that. Well, in Argentina if someone's not making money it's because they don't want to! Everyone finds a way to be there, to support, to sell, in any situation they always come up with something. – Besides, you had endorsed the bootleg merch! You had endorsed it! – I endorsed it, I gave them some publicity! They have to thank me! I'm currently wearing the original... They're next to me- [subtly points at his PR officer] – Yes, I don't want you to get in trouble!

Watching this all very carefully. It seems all the Speaker candidates have promised to kill any attempt at an omnibus spending bill.

There are reports the Super PACs negotiated in terms of supporting moderate or freedom caucus candidates in open house seat elections. Super PACs are supposed to not be mingled with actual elected officials or those running for office. This is mostly not true, but we had the freedom caucus Super PAC negotiating with a McCarthy moderate Super PAC for the speaker votes.
Our campaign finance laws suck, but this is next level bullshit.
After a chaotic floor fight, the new speaker won by making a series of concessions to far-right rebels. Democrats say they will make the House ungovernable.
WASHINGTON — After four days of deadlock and embarrassing defeats not seen in a century, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy finally carved out a path to placate a faction of rebels and secure the job early Saturday, with promises that could come back to haunt him.
McCarthy flipped 14 of his holdouts and convinced the rest to stand down, securing election as the 53rd speaker of the House on the 15th ballot after overcoming a last-minute wrench that scuttled his best-laid plans on the previous ballot. In doing so, he made a series of concessions that weaken the power of his office and expand the clout of far-right members of the House Republican conference, which critics say could complicate his job of governing under a wafer-thin majority.
McCarthy and his allies sensed they were on the verge of a breakthrough on Thursday night after Rep. French Hill, R-Ark., and others tapped by the now-speaker met with a group of right-wing holdouts — including Reps. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Chip Roy of Texas and Byron Donalds of Florida. The mutiny was led by members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, which is known for wielding raw power and having a high tolerance for chaos to force House GOP leaders to bend to their wishes.

One month to go
We are exactly one month away from the end of the Continuing Resolution. Over the past 18 days since its passage, no action has been taken to pass any of the spending bills, due to the upheaval within the House of Representatives.
The vote on Speaker is about to commence. Here's my preferred viewing link: https://www.c-span.org/video/?531158-1/house-session&live#
I hope you have your popcorn and a beverage ready

Booking Speaking Engagements for Fall/Early 2025
One of the coolest things about trying to analyze pop culture and society is the privilege of presenting those ideas to others via public speaking.
For me, the venues have run the gamut - from addressing students at Harvard, Duke and Columbia universities to helping anti-drug task force members learn to talk about tough subjects across race and class lines and outlining prejudice and stereotypes in media with employees of Progressive auto insurance company and members of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors.
Here's a sample of a TEDx talk I gave near my alma mater, Indiana University, on how to talk about race -- successfully -- across racial lines.
youtube
So, if you need an engaging speaker for keynote, presentations or other events, I am booking for fall/early 2025.
I started doing this in 1990, so I have decades of experience as public speaker, TV/radio/podcast host and facilitator w/past jobs ranging from Harvard to CNN and SXSW.

To tack on to the ask you had about Carlos being white: your anon wasn’t entirely wrong and neither are you, but there’s more that some fans—especially European fans—may not recognize about certain prejudices and misconceptions that exist outside of Europe.
While it’s true that Carlos is white (both ethnically and in privilege) and therefore can’t really experience racism, prejudice always exists in context. Carlos is a Spanish-speaker. White Americans typically associate the Spanish language with latine people, who are regular targets of white racism on this side of the Atlantic. Carlos can’t personally experience racism since he’s white, but he can still be (and is, I see it all the time) the target of racist sentiments from white American fans, usually online. This doesn’t hurt Carlos directly I think so much as it affects anyone passively absorbing those kinds of sentiments while they’re scrolling their feed.
So no, Carlos could never be a victim of racism the way Lewis, Alex, Checo, Zhou, or Yuki are. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t fans implicitly or explicitly spitting racist shit at him.
I actually had these same thoughts while responding to that previous ask and that’s kind of why I brought it up in the first place, because I come from a culture where, even though Carlos is white, he would still be the target of racist sentiments and prejudice. Racists in the US probably can’t distinguish between latine and Spanish people and I do think it’s very likely that there are American F1 fans who treat Carlos differently compared to other European drivers because they don’t understand that he’s as culturally white as any of the paler Europeans on the grid.

so ive been thinking about this this morning and what classifies as "white people music" tho? like what are the qualifications? does the song also have to be made by a white person(s) or is it just primarily enjoyed by white people? are we just basing it off of vibes? if so, what are the vibes?

“He works brilliantly with the sponsors, he engages with the media, explains things not just about Williams, but about what’s going on on track. He engages with fans — I love him on social media because he actually engages directly with the fans. People are inspired by him and I think he will go on to be one of the top team principals at a top team in three or four years time."

Can you guys rb this or comment with how you pronounce “Goncharov”? I didn’t really think anything of it until one of my friends said it out loud and I was like huh? I think it’s interesting how people can have different pronunciations of a word or name they’ve never heard out loud in their head an not question it. For reference, I’m a native Russian speaker and I’ve always read it like gohn-CHArohv and my US American friend said GAHNCHA-rahv.
