I was asked for ressources on Western Sahara so here is a list.
Context: Western Sahara was colonized by Spain. In 1975 Spain was about to leave and they somehow decided that it was their right to fucking give the land despite the fact that the people did not want it. So Spain kinda agreed to give the land to Morocco (2/3) and Mauritania (1/3). Except they had no right to. Morocco then organized the “Green March” a march during which Moroccan colonizers marched to Western Sahara and settled there. Becoming settlers in a land that did not belong to them. Morocco claims that Western Sahara belongs to them because once a long time ago (in like 1040) the chiefs of multiple Sahrawi tribes allegedly swore allegiance to the Sultan of Morocco. It makes no freaking sense. On top of it the founder of the dynasty to which Western Sahara allegedly swore allegiance was an Amazigh man from Mauritania not from Morocco. Anyway after Morocco colonized Western Sahara in 1975, a war broke. In 1979, Mauritania gave back the land Spain had given them but Morocco still refused to give back their land to the Sahrawi people. They actually decided that if Mauritania didn’t want that piece of Western Sahara then it would also belong to Morocco and they colonized it too. In 1991 a ceasefire was signed under the condition that a vote would be organized for the independence of Western Sahara. Except they never voted… Morocco refuses to. In 2020, the Polisario (the name of the Sahrawi resistance) blocked a bunch of trucks between the border of Western Sahara and Mauritania. Morocco considered that it was a declaration of war and the ceasefire ended.
(If people wanna know how Algeria is involved in all this just tell me I’ll make a post)
Now the ressources to learn more about what’s happening!!
Sons of the clouds, the last (colony of Africa) a documentary in Spanish and Hassania (Sahrawi language) about Western Sahara. The link included subtitles in French.
An article from Amnesty international regarding how a Sahrawia activist, Sultana Khaya, was abused by Moroccans authorities.
The book “Sáhara occidental: un viaje a la libertad” by Taleb Alisalem a sahrawi activist. Only available in Spanish but if you have Twitter you should really really follow him. He shares a lot of information past and current on the subject with sources.
A human rights watch article from 2022 about the situation in Western Sahara (the article mention the Human rights situation in Morocco too)
Because listening to local journalists is very very important here is a Sahrawi newspaper in multiple languages: in Arabic in English in French and in Spanish
The APS (Algeria Press Service) is also a good ressource BUT I wouldn’t suggest to quote it when you’re debating with someone who is pro colonialism. Algeria is 100% pro Western Sahara so people against the independence of Western Sahara don’t consider that Algeria is a reliable source on the subject.
A friend suggested the Book “Sahara occidental: conflit oublié, population en mouvement” by Sébastien Boulay (Western Sahara: forgotten conflit, displaced population) to my knowledge its only available in French maybe in Spanish too as the co-author is Spanish. I personally haven’t read this one yet but I 100% trust the person who recommended me the book.

Could you share some good/cheap/free resources to learn català (preferably in Spanish)? Courses that also share some catalan history are very welcome too! Merci ❤️💛
Hola! I'm very happy to hear about your interest ☺️
Yes, you can find a list of resources in the FAQ. For convenience, here's the beginner resources I recommend the most for Spanish speakers:
The book "Vivir en Catalunya. Aprendemos catalán desde el español". You can get the PDF for free in this link (the document titled "Publicació").
The web course Parla.cat
They're about language and I don't think they go much into other aspects of culture, but it will be easier once you've learned the basics. You can also practise watching Catalan TV, if you already speak Spanish you'll understand it enough quickly (you can activate subtitles in Catalan to read along). The public TV channels from Catalonia, the Valencian Country and IB3 have streaming services that are free. Catalonia's can be installed in the TVs like Netflix, called 3Cat, and is available everywhere in the world for free, but the Balearic and Valencian channels might not be available from everywhere.
Some culture/history programmes on 3Cat are "Batalla Monumental", "Trinxeres", and "Gran Recorregut". La Xarxa de Televisions Locals also uploaded to their YouTube channel their show Comtes. L'origen de Catalunya which is great from a historically accurate point of view.
On the websites you can also stream: Balearic Islands' channel has two series about Balearic legends called Imaginari and Illes de llegenda, in Barcelona TV there's "Va passar aquí", and Valencian Country also has "Va passar ací". You might also be interested in the Valencian podcast "Baix la Lluna" (available in all the main music/podcast streaming platforms) which is all about Valencian legends. Valencian (and all Western Catalan accents) are more similar to Spanish than Eastern Catalan (Barcelona, Balearic, etc) so a podcast might not be too difficult quite early on.
I hope this is useful! Best wishes in your learning!

i like delores aesthetically and i enjoy her as a character, but on a surface level i do not like her. i think we’re going too easy on her because she’s hot. the woman was a serial killer and a cult leader. tbh betelgeuse did whatever part of italy they lived in a favor. then she double-serial-killed people in the afterlife. she is EVIL and SCARY.
however, she is fascinating, both for the alternate light she casts existing characters in and in her own right.
this post was going to be about her but i got distracted so everything under the read more is about… geography? i think? and also languages, and also theorizing on how long delores was awake after she died.
based on the the guy who fell down the manhole at the beginning, it seems like wherever you die is directly correlated to what part of the afterlife you end up in rather than where you live. he died in the usa, so he ended up in the part we see, which is english-speaking and mostly has usamerican ghosts.
miss argentina, betelgeuse, and delores are not usamerican. sure, miss argentina’s beauty contest could have been in the usa, but betelgeuse and delores explicitly died in italy, and juno, who works in the usa sector of the afterlife, implies that she knows what it’s like to haunt places in italy. clearly, migration within the afterlife is possible.
re: charles and richard—ok i forgot where charles was flying from when he died. but if it was out of the continent, i think charles probably died close enough to the us that he got sent to that part of afterlife anyway. richard has been dead for years and had time to migrate. maybe that’s why he’s working civil service? as an excuse to switch sections? idk…
throughout both movies betelgeuse consistently displays an affinity for mimicking accents and voices, as well as being multilingual (he at least speaks spanish, italian, english). plus he’s been dead a long time. it’s believable that these combined factors led to him speaking english with an american accent rather than an italian accent. it is worth noting that his diction becomes more poetic and flowery when he’s speaking italian.
there’s also the thing where he says “mazel tov” during the flashback, but we don’t see his face while he says it, so that may not have been actually said at that time.
delores does have an italian accent. doylistically, this is because monica bellucci is italian. watsonian-wise, she’s probably just… not as good at vocal mirroring as betelgeuse. plus she hasn’t been awake for a large portion of her time as a ghost. but, and this is important, she has definitely been awake for some of it.
i do believe delores knew english when she was alive—her poison bottle is labeled in english. as for why she’d be speaking english to everyone around her? the first person who addresses her is the janitor, and he speaks english. from there, she correctly assumes that everyone else speaks english and responds accordingly. she also does the “betelgeuse is mine!” graffiti in english. and when she and betelgeuse are finally face-to-face, she speaks to him in english, too. doylistically, this is because the film is written in english and they didn’t want to overuse subtitles, but it is interesting that she wouldn’t address him in their first language.
still, even if we can’t use the language she speaks as a reason, i believe delores was awake before being dumped into a storage box. she adapts very quickly to the modern things in the afterlife (i don’t know how long spray paint and staple guns have been around, but i’m assuming they were invented post-black death). she doesn’t seem surprised or distressed by the fact that she’s dead or in multiple pieces, or by her soul-sucking / possession abilities. (she moves lydia with possession in the church.) she also navigates the afterlife fairly easily.
there’s also just no reason why she WOULDN’T be awake. the deceased can exist in pieces. look at the chopped-in-half woman in the first film.
so this gives us this mysterious block of time post-death where betelgeuse and delores moved to the usa and delores was eventually forced into the unconscious and separated state she’s in when the movie begins. no conclusion here, just food for thought.
anyway that tragedy sequence was so beautiful aauguhhhhhhhahahshjfjfj

CUT IT SHORT with SHORT FILMS (1300)
Tumblr media
Short films are favorite movies of mine without caring on the genre as are written short stories. For the sake of argument, lets say It emulates the type of world we live in, FAST and FURIOUS on a short fuse. However, I follow the Spanish saying (lo bueno y breve, dos veces bueno), that is, what is good and brief, doubly good or twice good. I have brought you several short films. Whatever you make of them, they are excellent pieces of work, I consider them a work of art.
Tumblr media
My first story is about Nelly, a girl who locks her mother out or locks herself in, her house on her ninth birthday and starts posting videos on her moms phone on the internet. As the mom attempts to get inside the house, all her attempts fail, the video content becomes increasingly threatening as public services, police, fireman, etc intervene as locksmith was unable to open the doors.
Tumblr media
The director: Jonas Steinacker Nelly's Story (2022)
I lived through a similar scenario, however not so dramatic, when my daughter was 4 years old. A neighbor called at the house in the building I live on the ninth floor. My wife and I at that time were the building's community secretary. A neighbor called at our door asking us to look at something in the hall on the same floor that he thought needed fixing. My wife and I went to see what it was when my four year old daughter slammed the door on us and neither of us had the key to open the door. We used the neighbors phone, called a lock smith, explained and he quickly came over, opened the door, we thanked and paid him, all the while my wife is calming and hugging my daughter. They were anguishing moment but more or less under control. So I can easily relay with the story.

Leaning on sex, style, and tech this cool animated short falls somewhere between MTV's Liquid Television, anime, and THE MATRIX in a neo-dystopian world. Since I hardly understood anything, I went to AI Copilot for help on the matter and here is the conversation that transpired:
Urbance (2015) is a visually striking animated short film created by Joël Dos Reis Viegas and Sébastien Larroudé. The film is set in a neo-dystopian world where sex is prohibited due to a deadly genetic virus. The story revolves around underground nightclubs where teenagers engage in dance battles and consume illegal substances to escape their harsh reality.
The creators, Joël Dos Reis Viegas and Sébastien Larroudé, are talented Canadian designers with experience in Hollywood films like X-Men: Days of Future Past and the Godzilla reboot. They aimed to blend Japanese anime influences with Western urban culture, resulting in a unique and edgy visual style1.
Despite its complex and somewhat chaotic narrative, Urbance has garnered attention for its bold vision and high-quality animation. It was initially funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $200,000 Canadian dollars.

THE QUEUE (2023) I'd give it the highest compliment I can pay to this film. It plays like an episode of a horror anthology series. The high production value and unique story, really help make it stand out from the standard haunted house or slasher fare one comes across online. It should come as no surprise that Michael Rich's film has had a successful film festival circuit run, gaining acclaim and awards. Give this a look if you want to watch a deeply dark yet interesting horror viewing experience!

ngl I absolutely LOVE this MP collage you made a while ago (specifically the collage on MPFC S2Ep2, aka “The Spanish Inquisition”!), aka the one shown below :
Tumblr media
Also ngl, I love that you’ve included the yellow subtitles here as they kinda remind me of the subtitles (which iirc most of them were differently coloured but I think the majority of the subtitles used were yellow coloured iirc?) used for/shown in the low Potato quality uploads of the MPFC sketches uploaded on YouTube in the Days of Yore (aka the mid-late 2000s and early 2010s) and some of them in different languages too! (which, when I watched them a while back this year, it was pretty cool as well since it meant it could accessible to anyone who couldn’t speak English and that they can laugh at the silly Python humour too in their own language!)
This probably wasn’t intentional on your part, but I just thought it was cool detail and I wanted to tell you that just incase!!
Anyway, all in all, you make *mwah* CHEF’S KISS 🤌💋 collages as always 💯💯💯 <33
THIS WAS 1000% INTENTIONAL AND IM SO GLAD SOMEONE NOTICED LOL my first exposure to the pythons was my dad showing me their sketches as a kid on youtube (and listening to their CDs on roadtrips) and I vividly remember the old low quality w the bright yellow subtitles,
I love that someone like ripped the clips from their old VHS tapes just to share, idk why but I find that incredibly sweet? like there were no streaming services if you didnt have the tapes you couldn't watch them, and people found the clips so funny they took the time and effort to share them n just aah <3 its the little things yk?

This may be a dumb question but what's the way for learning Spanish? I work customer service and I'd love to interact my Hispanic customers more.
Hmm ok so my second language is English right and I learned English in high school lol and since I’ve been exposed to English all my life with games and online spaces it was easier to keep it fresh in my mind, that and I have online friends whom I used to video call and talk in English with
Like i’d say try to do the same thing, surround yourself with the language you wanna learn, like I’d recommend watching movies or shows in Spanish with English subtitles to be more exposed to the language, and if you have friends that talk in Spanish then ask them to talk to you in Spanish too
now if you don’t have any base knowledge in Spanish then I honestly don’t know :( I’d suggest duo lingo but I’ve heard they’ve been using AI for their translations so i wouldn’t personally support them, but it is an option
Maybe try looking in YouTube for quick Spanish phrases or words? Like every day phrases you can use with your customers

it is annoying when accessibility tools are either used as a joke or used in ways that infantalizes the user. i have a hard time processing audio, especially when i cant see people's lips, so i always need subtitles, but subtitles often censor swear words and dont add non-english text replacing it with just (speaks in spanish) or whatever. On youtube videos the closed captions sometimes the person uploading it doesnt use the cc for its intended purpose and adds jokes in the closed caption. Like, whats wrong with just having the CC/subtitles reflect what im watching. Am I not mature enough for swears because i need subtitles?? its infuriating.
it's especially infuriating when it's a professional service that you are paying for, like, Netflix is legally obligated to have subtitles, but so often they are completely an utterly wrong and just say "unintelligible" And as you said, "speaks [insert language".

Sit down, we need to talk about Hekimoğlu.
As some of you might know, I found the whole damn thing dubbed in spanish on some turkdrama streaming service, in glorious 1080p, so now I'm working on splicing it with the original audio and providing more coherent subtitles. This of course takes a considerable amount of time.
This source, perhaps in solidarity with my mental health, divides the show into 45-minute episodes. In opposition to the two-hour long 51 episode count your can find on IMDB, this distribution consists of a total of 157 episodes, which I plan on releasing weekly (I have a full time job and a life. wish I didn't tho). I think it'll be a fun way to build expectation, something we can all look up to, maybe it's cheesy, idc.
I'm still ultimating details but I have the first episode done and I would love for you guys to decide which day of the week we could to this in
(just in case, if you vote mondays it doesn't mean I'm going to upload it tomorrow, probably)
I'll probably make another post further along with a few more info and details, I'm considering setting up some sort of patreon or ko-fi, even making a discord server with live screenings, but I don't want to make too many promises <3

Stray thoughts on Dead Boy Detectives
So, five years after getting Gay Married, I am getting Gay Divorced. I'll be moving out in about a month but until then, my spouse/soon-to-be-ex and I still live together.
One of the things we can still do together is watch TV. We are overall rather different from one another in the way that we enjoy watching TV; my spouse largely prefers shows that are easy to digest and don't require reading subtitles, while I like to get totally absorbed by TV shows and don't mind subtitles. However, there are a couple of types of shows that we both love. Aside from Swedish gardening shows, we both like watching British crime stories and camp/kitschy supernatural stories.
So, right now, we are watching Dead Boy Detectives. We love it. One episode left, which we will watch later.
Something I am thinking about as I watch: Sometimes I like very realistic shows. And sometimes I love it when a TV show is like an anime, or a comic book. My spouse and I have several times commented upon how much the cinematography - the angles, the colours - remind us of the imagery in The Sandman, and that era of comics overall. I haven't read all of the original Dead Boy Detective stories, but I did read the Sandman parts of them, and I really enjoy the call of making them older teenagers and find a different death for Charles. It's a whole other story and I like it.
Various thoughts (MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD):
I find it funny that Edwin has so many boys fawning over him, but it seems like he has a lot of fans on Tumblr and a lot of people love him and how many boys want him so I will take it as fan service. Not a bad thing, I just... I know he is supposed to be a character that rubs others the wrong way but is likeable for the audience but I find him hard to like. Not hard to feel for, he has clearly suffered, he is not a bad person, but I just can't really like him. Sorry.
Charles, on the other hand... he is so lovely??? Can't tell if I want to be him or if my inner teenager wants him. The best acting in the show, too, so maybe that's part of why he steals all the scenes. He kind of reminds me of this boy from my gymnasiet Spanish class. I had a huge crush on him but he liked... real girls I guess.
Charles' reaction to Edwin's confession was so, so good. Couldn't have been better. I honestly hope their relationship stays platonic. Just for once, I want to see someone fall for his friend and then get over it and find someone else to be in love with all while maintaining a healthy friendship. I am generally for The Gay but I would genuinely be disappointed if they get together in a later season lol
The librarian looked so straight. The only character in the show to do so. She was styled 100 % like a heterosexual Swedish HR dept employee with one OR three children (not two) and a husband that works with... I don't know, industrial economy or something. They go on trips to go skiing in the Alps together in the winters and they used to go on a sailing trip every year together when they were younger but now the husband is the only one that goes. I was really annoyed by this at first but when she turned out to be a crazy stalker I was happy about it.
When I was younger I used to wear my hair similarly to Jenny's and Niko's and I also used to colour coordinate a lot more and now I miss it so much??? It is extremely impractical how I both want to cut my hair short like Charles again and let it grow out to Niko hair again. Maybe this is my queue to start wearing wigs.
I want a whole mini-series about just Jenny and her emotional life.
Not sure how I feel about Niko as a character. I've seen some people appreciate her as a Japanese-American character and as an autistic-coded character. Personally I don't know what to think. I don't really like how pretty her weirdness is. She feels like a cute Goodnight Moon ASMR character [edited for tempering] and not necessarily in a good way. Still, she’s kind of relatable [edited] and I suspect that I would have been obsessed with her if I’d been a teenager.
Oh god wait I struggle w Niko and I struggle a lot with Edwin and now I realise they’re probably the two characters that are the most similar to teen me????? Help?????
My spouse was so moved that they cried during the scene where Crystal meets her ancestors. I really liked the scene, but the one of her scenes that I enjoyed the most was when she and her ancestors pushed David into the ground. Loved the juxtaposition of the serene beauty of the tree and the physical brutality of their entrapment. It made the tree - she and her powers - scary and powerful. In a good way.
Speaking of brutality, I love the witch so much. I love how she is full on a hag - strong and violent, beautiful and disgusting, funny and horrific. It's not hard to imagine her eating babies.
I am not saying that this is badly casted, because it's not - but I notice how hard I find it to actually see these teenage characters as teenagers and not as being in their mid-twenties, like the actors actually are and look like. However, this is a common trouble I have with shows of this type.
I would have fucked the Cat King.

With the recent removal of the English Mutant Busters dub from the Planeta Junior YT channel, I decided to research some places where you can STILL watch the show! ______________________________________ YouTube Channels: Mutant Busters Official Channel Spanish Dub, Free to Watch
Tumblr media
Of course, Mutant Busters in its entirety (52 episodes + Logs) is accessible for free on the OFFICIAL Mutant Busters channel! However, only the Spanish dub of the episodes are available. Some of the other official videos, on the other hand, are available in English AND French
Giggle Mug English Dub, Free to Watch
Tumblr media
Alongside the archive channel, Giggle Mug is also reuploading the English dub! However, it's not the only thing they upload, and as of writing this, not all of the episodes are currently available on the channel
Mutant Busters ARCHIVE English Dub (For Now), Free to Watch
Tumblr media
I've talked about this channel in a previous post, but I'd still like to include it here. Unlike Giggle Mug, Mutant Busters ARCHIVE is EXCLUSIVELY Mutant Busters, and has the full 52 episodes & Logs of the English Dub. However, I'm working towards making this a complete Dub archive. I'm currently hunting for the Dubs, and already have 2/3 of the French Dub on DVD, and was able to find the Italian Dub up until Episode 14 (Supercool). If you happen to know where to find the dubs (either on DVD or online) let me know! Anything helps when it comes to archiving the show!
CARTOONLND(?) Italian Dub, Free to Watch
Tumblr media
Upon further investigation, I found new channel called CARTOONLND that seems to be reuploading the Italian dub of Mutant Busters! The videos are a little over a week old, and they claim to have up to season 2 (if they reach 20 subs, they'll upload it, as per their community post)! Hopefully, they'll upload more, because it would be great to have the other dubs available!
OTHER PLACES TO WATCH ATRESPlayer Spanish ONLY, SUBTITLED, Subscription Based
Tumblr media
One of the few streaming services that has Mutant Busters still available, however it IS subscription based. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, though, it at least offers Spanish subtitles AND is internationally available, unlike Roku.
ROKU CHANNEL/ROKU.COM Spanish, Free to Watch w/ Ads REGION LOCKED (USA, UK, Canada)
Tumblr media
One of the other streaming services that still provides Mutant Busters in full, Roku offers all 52 episodes + Logs in Spanish. Unfortunately, though, the service IS region locked, and if you're outside of the aforementioned countries, you would need to use a VPN to access this service.
I'll update this thread accordingly as new places & ways to watch are found! If you have any suggestions/leads, don't be afraid to drop them in the notes or reach out via DM! Happy Busting!

Hi, I've been trying to download Trust, but the sites I normally use aren't letting me. May I ask, what did you use to watch or download the show, and does it have english subtitles?
hi!! i streamed it on tinγzοnetv*dot*se. unfortunately subs only begin from ep4 on (yes, on all p*rating sites that i looked on) but its hd. if you understand Spanish i know lookmovie has subs for every ep but for some reason some eps are in spanish dub😭. but as someone who usually NEEDS subtitles and english only being my 2nd language, it was fine actually! theres some mumbling but nothing of importance. also the parts were they speak Italian have integrated eng subs.
i know it legally streams on hulu US, with subtitles most likely. its up for sale on prime video in some countries too, maybe check justwatch if its available free in your country or a streaming service u might have.

What I love about not using streaming services ever is you end up watching shit in such weird ways. Had movies last night that I watched in a 2 part daily motion upload that were reversed, one on YouTube with Dutch subs and 240p quality. I experienced cats 2019 with a Spanish dub no subtitles and didn't notice for a while bc the songs were still in English. Right now the only way I can watch the movie I'm watching is on a German server so it's dubbed in German but there's a wide variety of languages being used in the film so it makes it rally interesting. Genuinely would never go back bc while convenience for certain things may be there, it's so much more fun to watch things in a memorable way like this.

✨💙 HEAD CANNON TIME! 💙✨
If you are a fan of Wakfu/Dofus you may recall a foreign race of demons known as Shushu’s, but if you are not I will try my best to explain!
Shushu’s are devious, selfish, and plainly evil, they love nothing more than to cause destruction and havoc. There are certain rankings of these demons such as Rubilax (a character from Wakfu and is one of my favs) is a level 4 Shushu, and is watched over by Sir Percedal of Sadlygrove. (My favorite Iop-brain!)
Then I got thinking, how can I tie this in with my AU, then it hit me, the troublesome trucks love to cause confusion and delay, they love nothing more than to cause chaos for the steam engines, kinda like ShuShu’s!
So, I’m planning on making the troublesome trucks (aka Dæmmöns) for my AU!
And you remember Hector the Horrid? How absolutely H U G E he is compared to the other trucks/cars? Well, he’s gonna be a level 4 Dæmmön like Rubi, but with a few twists! Which I hope you’ll all like!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Shushu’s have the ability to possess people/objects, which I absolutely love! So here’s what Thomas will look like when Hector possess him in the later chapters coming in the near future!
Tumblr media
(I apologize for the little side notes, they’re kinda for me so I don’t forget anything!) 😅
Tumblr media
And if you’re wondering where to watch Wakfu it is on Netflix! (So far it’s the only streaming service I know of that has it and I HIGHLY recommend to check it out!)
Here’s a link to help further explain how Shushu’s possess things https://youtu.be/3rpWmi-gFg0
youtube
This is from Season 1 ep. 19 of Wakfu, the video is the original French dubbed with Spanish subtitles, I like to watch the whole thing but if you want to cut to the chase and see Percedal being possessed, jump to timestamp 8:10!
