Avoiding Common Mistakes When Buying South Shore Real Estate
Tumblr media
The South Shore is a highly sought-after location for homebuyers. Renowned for its charming coastal towns, top-rated schools, and convenient access to Boston. However, navigating the real estate market can be daunting, particularly for those new to the area or the home buying process. But before that you have to avoid certain things while buying your dream home. From underestimating the costs to failing to do your due diligence, plenty of pitfalls can derail your purchase. By educating yourself and working with trusted professionals, you can avoid these mistakes and find a home that meets your needs and budget.  In this article, we'll cover common mistakes to avoid when buying real estate on the South Shore, helping you make informed decisions and secure your dream home.
Not Researching the Area
Before buying a home, it's essential to research the area thoroughly. Look into the town's schools, crime rates, property taxes, and proximity to amenities like shopping, dining, and public transportation. Taking the time to research the area can help you avoid surprises down the road.
Not Employing A Local Real Estate Agent
Partnering with a local real estate agent with experience in the South Shore market is essential. They can provide valuable insights into the local housing market, help you navigate the buying process, and negotiate on your behalf.
Not Getting Pre-Approved for a Mortgage
Before you begin house hunting, getting pre-approved for a mortgage is essential. This will give you an idea of how much you can afford and make you a more attractive buyer to sellers.
Overlooking Hidden Costs
When buying a home, it's easy to focus on the sale price and forget the additional costs. Don't forget about expenses like closing costs, home inspections, property taxes, and homeowners' insurance. Make sure to budget for these expenses upfront.
Not Having a Home Inspection
A home inspection is a crucial part of the buying process. It may uncover problems with the property that are not apparent during a walk-through. Don't skip this step, even if you're buying a newly built home.
Not Considering Resale Value
Even if you're planning on living in your new South Shore home for many years, it's essential to consider its resale value. Factors like location, school district, and home features can all impact a property's value in the future.
Overlooking Small Repairs
When touring South Shore homes, it's easy to get caught up in the bigger picture and overlook small repairs. While these may seem insignificant, they can add up quickly and impact your budget. So be sure to take note of any small repairs needed and factor them into your decision-making process.
The Final Words
Buying South Shore real estate can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but avoiding common mistakes is essential. Sticking to the above point will increase your chances of finding your dream home on the South Shore. If you're looking for South Shore homes for sale or need assistance with the buying process, consider working with South Shore Sotheby's International Realty. Tim Drake's Mom is actually Lara Croft! AU
After getting pregnant Lara Croft disappears off the face of the earth, takes up a shell company in Gotham left to her by her father, and assumes the identity Janet Drake.
(DC made Timmy's parents archeologists! so Sis it was between Indiana Jones or the Tomb Raider and well here we are!)
___________________________________________________________
Lara Croft has a daring archeological adventure/world saving mission with a dashing man she only knows as N. Drake (if u know u know) and finds out she's pregnant weeks after.
Lara Croft did not expect to be Pregnant. Lara knows that she shouldn't have a baby. She knows this intellectually and emotionally, she doesn't have any family left and after nearly 10 years of traveling the globe and putting herself in life or death situations she knows her life can't accommodate children. Lara knows the responsible thing to do, she makes an appointment with NHS/MSI and focuses on her next project. (TW: Discussion of Abortion)
Lara never gets her appointment. She misses her abortion date in London when she gets caught up in another mad expedition that takes her half way across the world.
On this mission she nearly looses everything, her friends, her own life, what's left of her father's legacy, all for a semi cursed magical artifact that nearly blows up the South American Coast.
Lara's tired, scared, she's been running from Trinity (evil org) for nearly a decade now . She's 29, she's 5 months pregnant, and she's stuck floating on her back in the middle of the South Atlantic sea watching the sky burn.
Lara's rich she could always get the abortion, legally or otherwise, her father left her a billionaire and the souvenirs she'd collected from her travels do nothing but add to that wealth.
Trinity wants Lara Croft dead, they'll never stop chasing, and Lara just wants respite. She wants her quaint childhood in the English countryside with her father, she wants to curl up and sleep for a thousand years. She wants to be someone else, just for a moment.
Her heart beats wildly in her chest and she can almost feel another heart beating alongside it.
Lara Croft makes a decision. She sinks into the sea and doesn't come back up for air even when it burns.
On the shore a nameless woman washes up, water logged and looking for passage to America.
The Croft's have had shell companies for years, one can't be a billionaire these days without at least a few, Medi-industries is an unassuming medical supplier located in Gotham, New Jersey the crime capital of North America. It's the perfect place to disappear.
Janet Drake Lands in Gotham on a gloomy morning in March, she's got enough money to throw around that people forget to ask what family she's from, this is Gotham new money is nearly unheard of.
By mid April Janet has reestablished control of Medi-Industries, Now Drake Industries, and purchased an old English style mansion in Bristol, which the real-estate agent has assured her is a great neighborhood.
Timothy Jackson Drake is born July 19th at nearly 3 in the morning squalling high into the night like a banshee. He is perfectly healthy and perfectly safe in Janet's arms.
It is only in the safety of their home, in the house Janet picked, because it was high on a hill for tactical advantage and had bullet proof glass nestled between quaint wood paneled windows, It is only in the heart of Drake Manor that Lara dares to Whisper her son's name
"Timothy Jackson Croft"
-------------------------
AU ALSO INCLUDES!
Badass Lara Croft being the cool mom TM
A family portrait of the Drakes, Including Janet, baby Tim, and a mysterious Jack Drake (who was a very discreet and well paid member of Gotham's theatre society, and who was also more then happy to pose as a rich ladies dead husband for a day)
A Socttish Nanny/Housekeeper with a very keen eye and discreet mouth who will not tell a soul that she is fairly sure she's employed by Lord Richard Croft's, eccentric billionares, missing daughter.
precocious and slightly British accented baby Tim who gets to have his Mom with him for 10 whole years! before she inevitably runs back off to save the world
Tim being unaware of his mother's past life beyond her name until the age of 13 when he becomes Robin and is able to actually find out what his mom's been protecting him from his whole life.
I imagine in this AU that eventually Trinity finally catches wind of where Lara is hiding and she has a big confrontation with them in New Jersey. It's way too close to Gotham and Tim for her comfort, she knows this is the only chance she'll get to control the chaos.
So she packs Tim up to move him into the dorms at Gotham Academy and promises she'll write and be home for his birthday in the summer. After she's finished her "company" business first of course.
Tim's confused but he trusts his mom, he gets unsigned postcards from all over the world and pins them above his bed in the dorm and goes to sleep trying to guess what country she's in every night.
The move to the dorm is kind of cool to Tim as well because it means he can start his plan to follow Batman and Robin in the city! (in this AU there's no way Lara wouldn't have noticed him sneaking out at 9, but Gotham academy security? totally oblivious)
Tim celebrates his 10th birthday with his mom at home, he has so many freaking questions about where she was! and she tells him outlandish stories about daring fights and cursed artifacts that he rolls his eyes at but enjoys none the less.
it isn't till he's 15 that his Robin work and his mom's adventures cross paths.
After so many years of close calls, of hiding bruises from his mom with same concealer she uses to hide her own wounds, of wondering if it was selfish to wish his Mom cared a little bit less about the world and would stay with him for more then a few weeks at a time. Finally it all comes to a head in the worst way. Lara Croft's latest adventure puts her right in the middle of a Bat Level investigation. It has Tim near loosing his mind with worry hoping his mom is alive and Lara having the worst freakout/Blow up of her life realizing her son has been putting himself in Danger every night she thought he was safe.
The Drake/Crofts are messy! Bad at communicating! And unfortunately the exact same kind of reckless and self sacrificing!
Fun food for thought:
Lara canonically is a killer, if you've played any of the reboot Tomb Raider series she can be pretty gruesome and efficient! Very cool! Jason would stan! Tim is kind of appalled! Lara is glad Tim's never killed, that he's never had to.
Lara still dies in this AU but it's in a big Trinity X Obeah Man X Captain Boomerang Cluster fuck where Lara finishes off Trinity and Obeah Man for good but looses her own life in the process. Tim is devastated, he feels like they were just starting to really be 100% transparent with each other before her death. Que Tim's not good very bad year!
if you've made it this far in my rambles here's a treat! I actually wrote a lil fuckin blurb for this!
preface: This the first time Robin and Lara Croft have ever met/are on the same mission.
___________
" mom!" Tim shouts, running before Bruce can even properly land the BatJet.
The old temple is ablaze, the ancient structure already half crumbled in on itself with what's left of it is spewing out clouds of jet black smoke.
Tim's mother limps out what was once the front entrance clutching at her ribs.
She's filthy, covered in a thick layer of dirt and grime. but she's got on a triumphant smile like the cat who got the cream.
" Mom!" Tim yells again watching as she does a double take at his choice of moniker.
Her mouth twists in a grimace as she stumbles and Tim dives under her arm quickly moving to support her left side.
Lara Croft meets the white lenses of Red Robin's eyes in confusion
" What'd you call me?" She slurs trying to blink away the smoke inhalation that makes it hard to focus and leaves her lightheaded.
Lara's right ankle which took the brunt of a very nasty dive from a very high perch, not 20 minutes earlier as she raced out of the Dead Kings Tomb, finally gives up the ghost and she pitches forward taking Red Robin with her.
He's young, she thinks, he's very young.
Before either of them can hit the ground Batman intercepts their fall hefting Lara into a secure hold.
Red Robin catches himself and latches onto Lara's hand.
He yanks off one of his gloves and tries to wipe some of the grime out of her eyes.
" Mum" he croaks this time, voice breaking nearly in half on the last syllable.
Lara furrows her brow, the cowl covers so much of this young man's face, from his nose too his brow bone, but his chin is startlingly familiar as is his absolutely atrocious British accent.
He reminds her terribly of Timothy.
" Tim" she says deliriously, Lara tries to smile but her eyes start to droop and her head lolls slack against Bruce's arm. She's clean out.
Tim makes an odd lunge and jerk movement pressing his fingers into her carotid artery to feel her pulse.
He's shaking, more wrong footed and anxious then Bruce has ever seen him.
Batman is extremely grateful when Nightwing comes up behind him and gently pulls his younger brother's hands away from his mother's comatose body.
" She's fine Red. We need to get her on board so we can get her some oxygen though, the smoke inhalation is getting to her. "
" Right" Tim says, still frozen in place. He shakes it off quickly " Right." he repeats pivoting in place and leading their small party through the remains of the ruins and back to the jet.
" I'll prep the med bay."

pics or it didn't happen! (ps, if u wanna write, draw, or HC anything for this AU feel free my lads)

Tidepools of La Jolla, California – Nursery of The Pacific Ocean Marine Life - Torrey Pines, California – San Diego Pacific Ocean Beach Adventure
youtube
To the north and east of the beach Los Peñasquitos Marsh Natural Preserve is one of the last remaining salt marsh areas and waterfowl refuges in southern California. The marsh, coves, and tidepools are rich in sea life: limpets, shore crabs and hermit crabs, mussels, barnacles, sea anemones, and many species of snails and cast-off shells.
This is the perfect place to watch the annual gray whale migration. All year round, you can see Seals, dolphins, porpoises, and sea lions in the ocean. About two hundred species of birds are protected at the reserve, including migratory ones.
Year round Resident shore birds include brown and American white pelicans, black-bellied and snowy plovers, American avocets, western sandpipers, willets, whimbrels, sanderlings, great egrets, and longbilled curlews. Occasionally, visitors may see gray foxes, bobcats, coyotes, and mule deer. Reptile residents include rattlesnakes and various other snakes and species of lizards, including the endangered horned lizard.
The Torrey Pines 2,000-acre reserve contains about 300 endangered and protected species of native plants. These vanishing habitats are home to sand verbena and beach primrose on the beach, as well as California sagebrush, California buckwheat, black sage, and coastal barrel cactus. On the cliffs other high elevations there are many chaparral plants, including chamise, manzanita, ceanothus, California scrub oak, toyon, and mountain mahogany. Many of these scrub plants in particular provide the refreshing herbal fragrance that mixes so incredibly with the ocean breeze.
Before this area was colonized by Spain, the Kumeyaay tribes migrated lived here, and migrated between here, the deserts, and the mountains throughout the seasons. The land was bountiful, and the Kumeyaay would have fished, hunted, collected crustaceans, and gathered seeds, fruit, roots, to create probably a very healthy and tasty diet. The Kumeyaay have left an indelible archaeological and cultural legacy here in San Diego county and they continue to be a strong tribal nation today both here and south of the border in Baja Norte state.
The water is usually so clean and clear here, and because of the lack of shoreline development, and the underwater marine reserve, this constantly ranks as one of the 3 cleanest beaches in SoCal. This is a wonderful rare instance of extremely valuable real estate, both being a wildlife refuge and habitat, and a beautiful escape from civilization for people to enjoy for the most part in harmony.
It’s been an incredible day on the coast here in Torrey Pines and La Jolla, and I’m so glad that we were able to explore my favorite beach together. You can enjoy my series: Torrey Pines – La Jolla, California – San Diego Pacific Ocean Beach Adventure, full length, 3 glorious days on the North County coast, and experience all of the different moods and landscapes from the ever-changing interplay between the coastal inversion and sunlight.

Heading to California
The mister and I are driving to California tomorrow. It's not nearly as exciting as you might think, it's just a town in southern Maryland.
Tumblr media
We're going on a fact-finding mission. We might want to live there. It's early days yet, NOTHING is happening, but we'd like to have a look around. It would offer a lot more than what we have here in Denton (restaurants, shopping, medical care, etc) and we'd still be about an hour from the Edgewater gang. Bonus, we wouldn't have to worry about Chesapeake Bay Bridge traffic all summer. Not gonna' lie, when I google the town and see that they have everything from Belk to JoAnn's to Sally Beauty, it sounds like every convenience I left behind in Mt. Juliet. Man, do I miss that ease of living. There's a Lowe's, a Home Goods, a movie theater, a couple of malls, five grocery stores, a Target, and so on. The reason that this small town offers so much is that it's rubbing shoulders with Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Unfortunately, the closest airport is Reagan National in D.C., about 65 miles away. I think BWI (Baltimore) is 75. Not ideal, but not any worse than what we're dealing with now. I've been looking at real estate online, and at the moment it's in our price range. Before I build this up in my mind as the answer to everything that is wrong here in Caroline County, we're going to have a look around. I know the grass always seems greener elsewhere, but folks, we hardly have grass here. Literally and figuratively. If nothing else tomorrow I get to stop at a Home Goods (Halloween stuff!) and a Sally beauty (hair stuff!). I miss civilization so much. Our plan is to ditch Denton first thing in the morning and head over the bridge and turn south.
Tumblr media
We'll explore, have a little lunch (so many restaurants to choose from!), and then head back home. Feels like the Amish on Rumspringa. I'll report our findings here on the ol' blog and let you know if it was much ado about nothing or has some potential. Our choices in Maryland seem to be dense urban or the sticks. This might be a happy medium. Scratch that, I do like Easton (here on the Eastern Shore) and really like their Talbot County property taxes. There's plenty to consider, and we're willing to explore the possibilities. We've been in Maryland just over two years, and I really think there's a better life for us outside of Denton. It's sure worth a look. On that note, I'll wrap this up. I hope that you keep your hearts and minds open to change. Don't be afraid to admit that you need to make changes. This may or may not be something we'll pursue, and if we do, it won't be right away. We're just in the talking stages. We do know that we need more than this. We also know that although we worked hard to make this house very pretty, it's not a house we can live in at 80 or 85. Ideally we'll need a one story house, or at least a home with the primary suite on the first floor. We're not at that point yet, but we also don't want to have to make that move when we're really old. Is it silly to think of that at 60? I don't think so. Better than 80. Those are the thoughts rattling around in my head, so I just dumped them all out for you. Pick through the mess and keep what you like. Sending out oodles of love tonight, I hope you feel it. If you need to make any changes, I'll be your cheerleader. Do it! Follow your dreams! Get what you need! Be brave!
Tumblr media
There's always one.
I'll let you know how our adventure unfolds. Until then, stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

Important Tips for Moving to Burlington, VT
Burlington, Vermont, a picturesque city nestled on the shores of Lake Champlain, is a vibrant and charming place to call home. Known for its stunning natural beauty, vibrant arts scene, and friendly community, Burlington offers a unique blend of urban and rural living. If you're planning to move to Burlington, here are some important tips to make your transition smooth and enjoyable. Additionally, we'll explore transportation options, including the Burlington to Stowe shuttle and car service in Burlington, VT, to help you navigate your new home.
1. Understanding Burlington’s Climate
Burlington experiences a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters can be long and harsh, with average temperatures in January hovering around 20°F (-6°C). Snowfall is common, so be prepared for snow removal and winter driving conditions. Summers are warm and pleasant, with average temperatures in July around 70°F (21°C). The fall foliage is spectacular, making it a popular time for outdoor activities.
Tip: Invest in high-quality winter clothing and gear. A good pair of snow boots, a heavy-duty coat, gloves, and hats are essential. Also, ensure your vehicle is equipped for winter driving with snow tires and an emergency kit.
2. Finding Housing in Burlington
Burlington offers a variety of housing options, from historic homes in the Hill Section to modern apartments downtown. The South End is known for its artsy vibe and proximity to Lake Champlain, while the Old North End offers more affordable options with a diverse community.
Tip: Start your housing search early, as the rental market can be competitive, especially in the summer months when students return to the University of Vermont. Websites like Zillow, Craigslist, and local real estate agents can be helpful resources.
3. Navigating Transportation
While Burlington is a walkable city, having access to a car can make life more convenient, especially if you plan to explore the surrounding areas. Public transportation is available through Green Mountain Transit, which offers bus services around the city and to neighboring towns.
Tip: Consider using a car service in Burlington, VT, for reliable transportation. Local car services provide comfortable and efficient travel, whether you're heading to the airport, a business meeting, or a night out.
4. Utilizing the Burlington to Stowe Shuttle
Stowe, a popular destination for skiing and outdoor activities, is just a short drive from Burlington. The Burlington to Stowe shuttle is a convenient option for those without a car or who prefer not to drive in winter conditions.
Tip: Check the shuttle schedule in advance, especially during peak seasons, to ensure availability. The shuttle provides a hassle-free way to enjoy a day trip or weekend getaway to Stowe’s renowned ski slopes and hiking trails.
5. Embracing the Local Culture
Burlington has a thriving arts and music scene, with numerous galleries, theaters, and live music venues. The South End Arts District is a hub for creativity, featuring local artists and makers. The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts hosts a variety of performances, from Broadway shows to concerts and dance performances.
Tip: Get involved in the local community by attending events, joining clubs, or volunteering. The Burlington Farmers Market, held year-round, is a great place to meet locals, enjoy fresh produce, and discover handmade goods.
6. Exploring Outdoor Activities
Burlington’s location on Lake Champlain offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are popular activities in the summer. The Burlington Bike Path, which runs along the waterfront, is perfect for cycling, jogging, or leisurely walks.
Tip: Take advantage of the numerous parks and natural areas around Burlington. Oakledge Park, North Beach, and Red Rocks Park are just a few places where you can enjoy the outdoors and stunning views of the lake.
7. Understanding the Cost of Living
Burlington's cost of living is higher than the national average, particularly in terms of housing and utilities. However, the quality of life, safety, and access to amenities often justify the higher costs.
Tip: Budget accordingly and explore cost-saving measures, such as carpooling, using public transportation, or shopping at local markets and thrift stores. Consider energy-efficient appliances and practices to reduce utility bills.
8. Getting Involved in the Community
Burlington is known for its strong sense of community and civic engagement. Numerous organizations and initiatives focus on sustainability, social justice, and community development.
Tip: Attend city council meetings, participate in local events, and join community organizations to stay informed and get involved. The sense of belonging and contribution will make your transition smoother and more rewarding.
9. Accessing Healthcare and Education
Burlington is home to the University of Vermont Medical Center, providing high-quality healthcare services. The city also has excellent educational institutions, including the University of Vermont and Champlain College.
Tip: Establish a relationship with a local healthcare provider and explore educational opportunities, whether for yourself or your children. The city offers a variety of programs and services to support lifelong learning.
10. Enjoying Local Cuisine
Burlington’s food scene is diverse and vibrant, with numerous restaurants, cafes, and breweries offering a wide range of cuisines. From farm-to-table dining to international flavors, there’s something for everyone.
Tip: Explore the local food scene by visiting popular spots like Church Street Marketplace, where you can find a variety of dining options. Don’t miss out on trying Vermont’s famous maple syrup and cheese.
11. Staying Informed and Connected
Staying informed about local news and events is crucial for new residents. Burlington has several local news outlets, including the Burlington Free Press and Seven Days, that provide comprehensive coverage of local happenings.
Tip: Subscribe to local newspapers, join community social media groups, and sign up for newsletters to stay connected and informed. Engaging with local media will help you integrate into the community and stay updated on important issues and events.
12. Preparing for Emergencies
Burlington is a safe city, but it’s important to be prepared for emergencies. Familiarize yourself with local emergency services, including fire, police, and medical facilities. The city also has resources for natural disasters, such as flooding or severe weather.
Tip: Create an emergency plan for your household, including contact information, meeting points, and essential supplies. Stay informed about local emergency alerts and weather updates.
Conclusion
Moving to Burlington, VT, is an exciting adventure filled with opportunities to explore new landscapes, cultures, and communities. By understanding the local climate, housing market, transportation options, and community resources, you can make a smooth transition and fully enjoy all that Burlington has to offer. Whether you're using the Burlington to Stowe shuttle for a weekend getaway or a car service in Burlington, VT, for your daily commute, you'll find that this vibrant city has something for everyone. Embrace the local culture, get involved in the community, and take advantage of the natural beauty that surrounds you. Welcome to Burlington!

Experiencing Narcissism 101 - Part 3
Tumblr media
June 24th, 2024
Here we are nearing the end of Pride Month. I’ve challenged myself to write everyday and I’ve found it very useful in examining my past and realizing that I am actually very resilient. Yesterday I wrote about events leading up to the point of coming back from a trip with John. Today, the story continues.
I put my plan into action and began taking steroids above and beyond what I needed for Testosterone Replacement Therapy. I was taking injections because my testosterone was low due to my HIV medications. I supplemented with street testosterone as did John. In the course of my doing so, I put on more than 25 pounds and ended up at 250 pounds at my maximum. I continued abusing them up until 2013 when I moved to Nova Scotia with John.
John convinced me that I should be reducing the amount of time that I worked. At that time, I was a full-time teacher, a group fitness leader at a community centre and also a mentor for a master’s program at a university. The only real solution he suggested was to move from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. The reason was due to other cities didn’t seem inviting for either of us. I did suggest Montreal, but John didn’t speak French and thought it wasn’t a good idea. That summer, we jumped on a plane and took a quick trip to Nova Scotia. We explored a place called Annapolis Valley, which is fertile area of the province. We even looked at homes, but didn’t find anything that we liked. We returned home and made our decision.
We decided we would move to Windsor, Nova Scotia in October 2013. We also got married as it seemed the right thing to do. I resigned from the school board and put the house up for sale. It sold while we were enroute. We climbed into my truck with two dogs and a cat, travelling across Canada to Nova Scotia. During the trip, we argued a lot. The shouting continued and I decided that it was just part of my new life and bit my tongue. John did berate me for being quiet, which in my mind was better than screaming back at him. We found an apartment - literally on the fly - as we went across Canada. The hardest part was finding a rental unit that accepted dogs.
We lucked out and stayed in a place in Windsor until early 2015 when we found a house on the South Shore - which later became known as Otter Cottage. During the time in Nova Scotia, John had problems finding a job. I was accepted as a substitute and started working. He didn’t and that left him open to do other things. In fact, I caught him cheating on me several times. So, we negotiated an open relationship where we would explore together to fulfill everyone’s needs.
During our time there in Windsor, I got a phone call from my doctor. She told me to go to the hospital immediately because my bloodwork indicated that I had had a heart attack. We went to emergency immediately and I discovered that I had an enlarged heart due to the large amount of steroids. I spent four days in the hospital while they did tests. John visited everyday, but complained constantly about having to drive into the city. With supervision, I weaned myself off the steroids and reduced my testosterone to the appropriate level and quit the street steroids. It was clear that I had almost killed myself. I began kicking myself for having been so stupid to abuse steroids that much to satisfy the wishes of another person.
Once into Otter Cottage, I got a job in the Halifax and ended up with a permanent position teaching French Immersion. John then decided to become a real estate agent. So, I paid for his education. During the time of moving to the South Shore, our relationship was really strained. John was constantly getting angry at just about everyone - of course, including me. He constantly seemed frustrated and I did everything I could including buying antiques for him and giving him a room to decorate. That didn’t help and we argued constantly. Several times, I told him that I had had enough. Suddenly, John would turn back to a charmer and everything was great - for a few short weeks or month.
John finished his real estate school and managed to sell at least three properties, using a car that I had bought for him. At the same time, I discovered that he was still cheating on me. In late 2016, John mentioned that his former employer in Montreal had suggested offering him a job. I had had enough of all the nonsense. When I heard that, I told John that I wanted him to take the job and be out of the house by next week. So, he packed the car with everything he could and then moved everything he thought belonged to him into the antique room he had decorated. He went to Montreal and suddenly I felt a real relief - until the divorce proceedings started.
In the six years we were together, John paid rent three months in the time we were in my house in Vancouver. He bought groceries maybe twice. In Nova Scotia, he paid for nothing. I didn’t see any of the profits from the sales of the properties he had sold. I got a lawyer and proceeded with the divorce. We had to live apart for at least a year before we could legally divorce. That year was a year from hell for me.
John, now in Montreal, would contact me and screamed at me for not moving the stuff he wanted to Montreal. I told him that the lawyer told me to do that until we had settled the divorce.  His request was half of everything. I provided all my receipts for everything, showing that John had paid little. He never paid for heating, mortgage payments, gym fees, and much more. During that time, John began a classic narcissistic pattern - he tried to show me how he was a victim. He sent me pictures of him in the hospital. He sent me pictures of his empty fridge. He called me constantly asking for money. I had to continue to say no. He turned several local friends against me saying I was withholding his belongings. I told those local friends that they didn’t know what was really going on. Needless to say, I didn’t continue those friendships.
The calls continued along with emails, texts until I had to block him. He even called my school during a lesson and interrupted. He called me at the gym as well, asking an attendant to find me. I put a stop to all of that. At the end of the year apart, I made him an offer and let him know that he would get nothing more. He begrudgingly accepted it and immediately demanded his things sent. I had packed them into a pod as I was sick of seeing the pile of things in the living room. In typical fashion, he demanded that I allow one of his friends to sit and watch the pod be repacked so that his belongings would be safe. Ironically, the movers told me that I had done an amazing job and that repacking wasn’t necessary! At this point, I didn’t care; he had to pay for the moving costs.
Even after the papers were signed and we were officially divorced he continued to harass me with phone calls and texts on anonymous lines. I was so tired of it that I went to the local RCMP and lodged a complaint and asked the calls, texts and emails stop. The Sûreté du Québec (the provincial police in Quebec) paid him a visit and told him that if he contacted me again, he would be arrested. That was the last time I ever heard from him. In that year and a half, he contacted me more than 668 times by various methods.
In 2018 I was officially free of John. Otter Cottage was in my name, the car payments for John’s car were now his responsibility and I began my new life as a divorced gay man. As a side note, that fall as I was cleaning the gardens, I found a pile of broken mugs, coasters and John’s medication all thrown into the bushes. It seemed that whenever he was angry, he would throw things off the verandah - just like when he used to go out and scream at the top of his lungs at the people he hated.
So what was it like to live with a narcissist? Looking at the 9 points of Special Me, I saw countless examples of all 9 points and more from him. He always though he was the most important person at all times. He felt entitled to everything without having to work for it. He was exploitative, arrogant, lacked empathy and always showed off so that others could admire him. He also was easily able to play the victim and everything that he did was turned back on my so that it was all my fault. Anyone who didn’t agree with him immediately became the enemy - me included.
I saw a counsellor and learned to deal with the aftermath of living six years with John. The counsellor suggested I buy a book called “Stop Walking on Eggshells: Taking Your Life Back When Someone You Care About Has Borderline Personality Disorder.” All what was discussed in the book, I found in John. The only thing the book didn’t help me with was getting along with him and thankfully I never wanted to do so. In the end, I believe he was also obsessive compulsive as well.
During my counselling time, I came to acknowledge my part in those six years. I had been codependent and allowed him to do all of those things. I also discovered that I had to learn to love myself, always take care of myself first before helping others and learning how a narcissist latches onto a caregiver such as myself. I forgave myself for almost killing myself on steroids to please John. I watched my health and have not abused them since.
At that point, I was really sure that I knew what the signs were and vowed to never get involved with a narcissist. Did I succeed? I’ll leave that to tomorrow’s blog… For Pride, I am celebrating my inner self and my self love. Now that I have worked on myself, someone like John would never be able to pry their way into my life.
Carpe diem, everyone.

My personal ranking of homes in Skyrim:
Lakeview Manor: Easily #1. Fairly secluded with a wonderful view of Lake Ilinalta. In the woods, so you can go hunting right out your front door. However, troubles include a neighboring conjurer (possible necromancer?), occasional bandits, and occasional giant.
Breezehome: #2. Would place at #1 if not for LM's seclusion. The OG starter home. Whiterun as a whole is beautiful. Farms and wild game all around so you don't have to worry too much about food. Very competent and wise government with Balgruuf as Jarl. Just don't get involved in the Grey-Mane/Battle-Born dispute. Trust me. Also, house is made of wood and in a dry environment. Be wary of stray flames.
Heljarchen Hall: #3. Basically on Whiterun/Pale border. Again, be wary of flames. Wide, open land so you can hunt fairly well. Or start a farm (Heljarchen Farm mod is right beside Heljarchen Hall).
Proudspire Manor: #4. Beautiful architecture. In Solitude, so you are arguably in the safest city. Real-estate price is egregiously high, though. Politics are fairly mild aside from the war, and Falk is a pretty competent steward. Just avoid Erikur at all costs. 100% recommend attending the Burning of King Olaf festival.
Windstad Manor: #5. Hjaalmarch is mostly swamp to the North and snowy mountains to the South. Windstad Manor is on the Northern end of the swamps on the coast, so be ready for exceptionally cold winters. Beautiful view of Solitude and the Sea of Ghosts, though. (Additionally, neighboring the Windstad Mine mod area.) Be wary because it has the High Gate Ruins on one side and Ustengrav on the other. The swamp is also filled with frostbite spiders and the occasional chaurus.
Severin Manor: #6. Large, spacious interior with wonderful Dunmer architecture. All utilities you could need. House Redoran is a fairly competent local government. However, almost no work since the mine closed. Ash is everywhere from Red Mountain, so be sure to have something to cover your mouth and nose. Also, try not to wake up working on some strange shrines against your will.
Hjerim: #7. Beautiful architecture. Windhelm as a whole has wonderful architecture and rich history. However, it is very cold and the other residents are very unpleasant. If you're looking for an empathetic population, do not come to Windhelm. Additionally, beware of a killer on the loose.
Honeyside: #8. Only below Hjerim due to the presence of the Thieves Guild and the Black-Briars in Riften. Otherwise, very nice home. Back door leads right out the the shore of Lake Honrich, so prime fishing spot. Most likely humid with occasional rotting wood, though.
Vlindrel Hall: #9. Dwemer architecture is fascinating. However, doesn't really have anything else going for it. Forsworn are all throughout the Reach, including inside Markarth (don't let the guards lie to you). The Silver-Bloods are arguably worse than the Black-Briars. More likely to get killed than in Windhelm, and more likely to end up in prison than Riften. Plus, Thalmor actively reside in Understone Keep. Avoid Markarth unless absolutely necessary.
Winterhold: No home in Winterhold. Residence at the College doesn't count. 0/10.

An actor known for a character who hunts ghosts on the show "Supernatural" has a new house in the state of Connecticut — also famous in pop culture for alleged “haunted” happenings.
Jensen Ackles, his wife Danneel Ackles and their Stone Park Trust Agreement purchased the historic Gold Coast mansion at 1143 Sasco Hill Road in Southport in July for $9.375 million, according to mortgage and warranty deeds that are publicly available for viewing by the town of Fairfield. The property had previously been on the market for $14 million.
Jensen Ackles portrayed Dean Winchester on all 15 seasons of the drama series "Supernatural" and its 2022 spinoff, "The Winchesters." Dean Winchester alongside his brother Sam Winchester hunt a variety of malevolent entities on the show. Some of the villains have been inspired by Connecticut legends, such as season one's Woman in White, a ghost who appears in the center of roads to lure in victims. The fictional brothers also traveled to the Nutmeg State to face ghosts during season two and a shapeshifter in season 10.
Aside from his over 15-year-long role as Dean Winchester, Jensen Ackles recently appeared in "The Boys," a show about villainous super heroes. He portrays Soldier Boy, a World War II veteran and father of Homelander, the show's main antagonist.
The Ackles’ new property was once the centerpiece of one of the most expensive estates along Connecticut’s Gold Coast. Real estate company William Raveis told Hearst Connecticut Media in February that the estate was split into seven lots. The complete property last sold for nearly $50 million in 2001 and was listed at $62 million in 2013. This most recent sale was for the main house.
The Elizabethan Renaissance-style mansion sits on 3 acres of land and has more than 30 rooms across four stories and more than 19,000 square feet. It has nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. An elevator transports residents between levels from the basement — with a safe room, large recreation area, storage rooms and halls — to the third floor and its numerous bedrooms, gym, game room, study and more. The grand entrance on the first floor leads to a library, movie theater, wine-tasting room, grand ballroom and more.
New York architect Henry C. Pelton built the estate for Benjamin DeWitt Riegel and Leila Edmonston Riegel in 1923. DeWitt Reigel was a mill owner and businessman who split his time between Manhattan and Ware Shoals, South Carolina, according to preservationists at Historic New England.
The home stayed in the Riegel family for decades. In 1997, Katherine Riegel Emory, daughter of the original owners, deeded a conservation restriction to the Aspetuck Land Trust protecting nearly 2,000 feet of waterfront from development to serve "as one of the last remaining examples of the gracious and expansive open spaces on Long Island Sound that were traditionally a part of the large estates that formerly flourished in the area," according to the deed.
"The views of this open space have given pleasure, not only to generations of owners and their families, but also to generations of the public, who enjoy the sight of the scenic, undeveloped shoreline from two nearby public beaches, from the public road past Southport Beach, and from the waters of Long Island Sound,” Emory wrote in the deed. “In an area as rapidly and as intensively developing as the Connecticut shore, this remaining, highly-scenic open space is a unique treasure which provides pleasure and spiritual renewal to many, as well as sanctuary to birds and animals."

Introducing my mesmer character: Grace Alderspin
Nickname: Abyss Lady
Tumblr media
Grace is third scion of a noble krytan family, her early year were very sheltered, growing up on her families estate and learning to read, write and practice magic from her mother. While talented at mesmer magic, her real love was writing. As her elder siblings were slated to take over the estate, she was free to practice her passion, becoming a bestelling author of several mystery novels including 'Murder on the road to Lion's Arch' and 'The monster of Viathan Lake'. However, her success left her dissatisfied with her lot in life and she began to wonder if there was more she could do. She recieved her answer when, on a research to to Kessex Hills she witnessed the destruction of Fort Salma by mordremoth. Horrifyed by the destructive potential of the dragons, she returned home to Divinity's Reach and joined up with the pact, leaving her final novel unfinished.
Training hard, she was eventually selected to be among those aboard the pact fleet as it took on mordremoth, and just like the rest the pact she was torn from the sky over Tangled Depths when mordremoth retaliated. In the chaos she was thrown from her ship and down a sink hole and into a deep watery cavern, just about managing to swim to shore before blacking out completely. She awoke alone, in a dark hostile environment where EVERYTHING wanted to kill her. She should have died, in every other world she would have died but somehow, she managed to survive and learn to live in the cavernous abyss se found herself in.
Her magic began to change too, before she relied on tricks and deceptions but she found them unsuitable for the beasts roaming the depths, she began to favour more direct mental assaults, firing phantasmal thorns to tear apart the minds of jungle beasts and mordrem alike, becoming something akin to a virtuoso.
Tumblr media
She started being sighted by pact soldiers as they recovered and prepared to move south to take on Mordremoth, and rumors began to circulate about a woman rising from the caverous abyss to fight attacking mordrem before vanishing back into the depths just as quickly, earning her the nickname of 'Abyss Lady'. Grace stayed in the jungle for a year, honing her survival skills, not knowing that mordremoth had been slain and only finding out when she made contact with the Nuhoch who told her the good news and giving her supplies to make her way back home.
Returning to Divinities Reach she found that home no longer appealed to her. She wasn't the novelist who left home over a year ago and she could no longer sit still in the comfort of her house. So once again she left, deciding to seek out further challenges and hone her craft in the most dangerous environments on Tyria
Tumblr media
TL:DR: Novelist turned Bear Grylls style survivalist wanders Tyria seeking out challenges

Iyla lives in a classic, 1893 New England style home on World's End Isle. She could have paid full price for it, but instead she came to a deal with a client soon after she moved into town. It was her first job as a fury in White Crest and Iyla forgot to get a pool out of the deal.
The home boasts 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms and has a perfect view of the south shore of the Island. A certain real estate agent undervalued it at 7 million a few years ago.
Her favorite thing about the house is the winding, almost overgrown path down to the beach. If she ever catches her neighbor's yippy papillon doing his business on her stretch of beach, she will not hesitate to annihilate it.

Portofino : ep197
I feel kissing on my neck and ear lobe to gently wake me up.
Cheyenne: Baby, wake up. I think we died at sea. The boat must have sank last night.
I’m really groggy trying to wake up, but I’m not buying her story. Me: I don’t feel dead honey, come back to bed.
Cheyenne: Look out the porthole, we died and went to heaven.
Me: Shy, we’re living in sin. If we died in a shipwreck, we’d wake up in hell.
Cheyenne: There’s no way that there is any place on earth that is actually this beautiful. I’m pretty sure we’re in heaven.
Me: That’s just Portofino honey.
Tucked into a tiny spit of land about 10 kilometers south of Genoa along the northernmost coast of the Ligurian sea, Portofino is one of the most scenic ports in the known universe. The actual port covers land equivalent to a few football fields (or over here, football pitches) and nearly every square meter is occupied with a yacht. Three sides of the port feature high walls, like an amphitheater, and the northern wall has a picturesque waterfront with buildings in Mediterranean hues of yellow, burnt orange and gold.
Our sailing yacht is huge, so we’re anchored just outside of the harbor in about 30 feet of warm crystal blue water.
I throw on shorts and a t-shirt and tell Cheyenne to put on her bikini under her exercise gear as I dart out the door.
“I’ll be right back”
I return a minute later and get some running shoes on, gather up Cheyenne and head for the deck. By the time we emerge from our suite, Filet has pulled together a tiny breakfast picnic for us and put it into a shopping bag. I tuck breakfast into a rucksack, then we hop in the dinghy and the captain whisks us off to shore.
Cheyenne: What are we doing?
Me: We’re going to hike up to the lighthouse before everyone else wakes up.
Cheyenne: This is breathtaking. I honestly didn’t know that places this beautiful actually existed in real life. I thought it was just in screensavers and photoshop.
Me: Remember Henrik’s Ferrari? The one called the California? When they discontinued it, do you know what they replaced it with?
Cheyenne: No. What?
Me: A model called a Portofino.
Cheyenne: Gawd can you imagine driving Henrik’s Ferrari around here?
Me: Somebody at Ferrari obviously did.
Cheyenne: Wow. Apropos!
The land on the little peninsula above Portofino is ultra-premium A+++ real estate, but somehow it hasn’t been overdeveloped with mega-mansions. There is a rustic trail that ascends to a ridgeline. Each cobbled stair step is two steps deep, but only about one half step up. So it creates an odd cadence. Step forward, step up, step forward, step up. So you’re always stepping up with the same foot. We pass terraced gardens of grapes and olives, and an ancient castle called Castello Brown before reaching the lighthouse.
The Faro di Portofino is a bright white lighthouse that sits proudly on the rocks at the end of the peninsula. From their terrace bar, there are nearly 360 degrees of sweeping ocean views. It’s beauty that defies description. There’s a cocktail bar that opens for tourists at 10am, but we’re here well before they open, so we commandeer a table and enjoy our breakfast picnic of yogurt parfait, fresh fruit, and orange juice.
Me: You know what baby?
Cheyenne: What?
Me: You may have been right.
Cheyenne: Told ya’ …
We died and went to heaven.

Living the Dream: Ocean View Apartments in Goa
Goa, often referred to as "India's paradise," is famous for its golden beaches, vibrant nightlife, and laid-back lifestyle. But there's another aspect of Goa that many dream of: owning an ocean view apartment. Imagine waking up to the sound of waves crashing, feeling the cool breeze of the sea on your face, and enjoying sunsets from the comfort of your home. An ocean view apartment in Goa is not just a place to live; it's a lifestyle.
Why Choose an Ocean View Apartment in Goa?
1. Scenic Beauty & Tranquility One of the main reasons people are drawn to Goa is its natural beauty. Ocean view apartments offer an uninterrupted view of the Arabian Sea, where the horizon meets the sky in a breathtaking panorama. Whether you’re sipping morning coffee on the balcony or enjoying an evening glass of wine, the ocean is your constant companion. The sight of the waves rolling in creates an atmosphere of peace and serenity, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
2. Excellent Investment Opportunity Goa is not just a vacation destination; it's also a growing real estate hub. With a steady influx of tourists and expats, the demand for properties with ocean views is on the rise. Buying an ocean view apartment can be a wise investment, whether you plan to use it as a vacation home or rent it out for short-term stays. Properties with scenic views tend to appreciate faster, making them an attractive option for investors.
3. Resort-Like Lifestyle Ocean view apartments in Goa are often designed with luxury and convenience in mind. Many come with high-end amenities such as infinity pools, spas, fitness centers, and landscaped gardens. The lifestyle here is akin to staying in a resort, with facilities that let you live your best life. Whether it's enjoying the sunrise from your balcony, taking a dip in a pool overlooking the sea, or indulging in gourmet meals at an on-site restaurant, the ocean view apartment becomes a sanctuary that offers both relaxation and entertainment.
4. Perfect for Holidaymakers and Expats For those looking to escape the mundane, an ocean view apartment in Goa provides an idyllic setting for holidaymakers. It's an ideal base for exploring the state's many beaches, markets, and cultural attractions. Expats, too, are increasingly making Goa their home due to the relaxed lifestyle, beautiful surroundings, and favorable weather. Living in an ocean view apartment allows you to embrace the slow-paced Goan way of life, where time seems to slow down as you enjoy the simple pleasures of life by the sea.
5. Prime Location for Beach Lovers Goa's coastline stretches over 100 kilometers, with some of the most popular beaches being Baga, Anjuna, and Palolem. Ocean view apartments are often located in prime spots along the coast, putting residents just a stone's throw away from the beach. Whether you prefer the lively beaches of North Goa or the serene shores of South Goa, there’s a perfect location for everyone. Being so close to the sea means you can indulge in water sports, beach walks, and sunset views, all just steps from your front door.
What to Expect from an Ocean View Apartment in Goa?
Ocean view apartments come in a range of styles, from cozy studios to luxurious penthouses. Here’s what you can typically expect:
1. Spacious Interiors These apartments often feature spacious layouts with open-plan living spaces, large windows, and balconies that maximize the view of the sea. Many modern apartments have contemporary designs with sleek finishes and top-notch appliances. Whether you're looking for a minimalist design or something more traditional, you're sure to find something that fits your style.
2. Stunning Balconies The balcony is where the magic happens. It’s where you’ll spend most of your time enjoying the view and soaking up the atmosphere. Ocean view apartments in Goa are known for their expansive, sometimes wrap-around balconies that offer the perfect setting for outdoor living. Imagine watching dolphins playing in the distance or having a BBQ with friends as the sun dips below the horizon. The possibilities for outdoor enjoyment are endless.
3. High-End Amenities Many ocean view apartments are part of gated communities or resorts, providing access to high-end amenities such as concierge services, 24/7 security, and parking facilities. Some complexes even offer beach access, ensuring that you are always just moments away from the water.
4. Modern Sustainability Features As the world moves toward sustainable living, many ocean view apartments in Goa incorporate eco-friendly features like rainwater harvesting systems, solar panels, and energy-efficient appliances. These properties allow you to live sustainably while enjoying the luxurious aspects of coastal living.
Things to Consider Before Buying an Ocean View Apartment in Goa
While the idea of living with an ocean view may seem like a dream come true, there are some factors to consider before making a purchase:
1. Budget Ocean view apartments can be more expensive than inland properties, so it's important to assess your budget. Prices can vary depending on the location, size, and luxury of the apartment. For example, properties in popular tourist areas like North Goa tend to be pricier than those in more secluded locations.
2. Maintenance Costs Owning a property by the ocean comes with its own set of maintenance challenges. The salty air can be corrosive to the building materials, and the constant exposure to moisture may require more frequent upkeep. Be prepared for higher maintenance costs, especially for properties located near the sea.
3. Weather Conditions Goa’s coastal weather is mostly pleasant, but it can get quite humid during the monsoon season. Heavy rainfall and strong winds can be a concern for oceanfront properties, so it's important to ensure that your property is built to withstand these conditions.
4. Local Laws and Regulations When buying property in Goa, make sure you understand local property laws and regulations. Foreign nationals, for example, may need to meet certain requirements to purchase real estate in India. Working with a local real estate agent who understands the legalities can help you navigate the process smoothly.
Conclusion
An ocean view apartment in Goa offers more than just a place to live—it’s an opportunity to embrace a coastal lifestyle. Whether you're looking for a vacation retreat, a peaceful home, or a profitable investment, an oceanfront property in Goa can fulfill those dreams. With its combination of natural beauty, luxury amenities, and excellent potential for appreciation, an ocean view apartment in Goa could be your gateway to a more relaxed and enriching way of life.
If you're ready to make the dream of coastal living a reality, consider exploring the available options for ocean view apartments in Goa. It may just be the best decision you ever make.
