Been seeing some people complaining about Gatwa's sonic screwdriver 'cause it doesn't look like a traditional earthly screwdriver (cylindrical, as almost all the other sonics) and I'm so pissed off about it.

First of all, Capaldi had a pair of sunglasses as a sonic for a while (which was extremely cool of him). Secondly, it's a piece of alien technology. It doesn't need to resemble anything from Earth. And last but not least, what makes a screwdriver a screwdriver is not its phallic shape, but its function!

But I have to admit that calling it a sonic remote is a bit funny, like calling Capaldi's sunglasses a pair of sonic sunglasses.

I got a pair of sunglasses a couple of days ago because they were at a great price and I saw them and they reminded me of the Twelfth Doctor's glasses and every time I put them on or think about them I say to myself "I'm Doctor Disco" and it makes me so so happy. I love them. Best decision of my life.

I realize there are many absurd things in #DoctorWho, things for which you must suspend your disbelief to enjoy the stories, and I've been doing that since the 1980s, but…

I f*cking hate the sonic sunglasses. it's hard to express exactly why but I think I'd feel similarly toward a "sonic iPad" or "sonic beanie". Sonic screwdriver, though. That's in my heart.
