forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

You can always send me asks! Getting asks is extremely rewarding and I feel lucky to be surrounded by such chatty and interactive people. You have no idea how much the feedback I receive inspires me.

I read them all and try to answer as many as I can, but unfortunately it's not feasible for me to respond to every one, I'm just one person with limited time and energy. If they're particularly motivating and make me want to draw something, it may take a while for me to get around to it. I regularly dig through my inbox to find old asks that I missed, so if you sent me a long and thoughtful message at some point and I never posted it, I'm very likely still thinking about it and might get back to it eventually.

Finnegrin's Wants

So, I've been thinking a lot about Finnegrin's Wake (what Rayllum fan hasn't and yes, as is usually the case, this is because I'm a-fic-ing in this space), and so I've been pondering what Finnegrin's end game was when it came to Rayla.

Finnegrin is about trying to control everything. His crew, Archdragons, the ocean itself. He of all people knows this is impossible, but he's pretty damn good at working around that. His ship, his crew, and even Scumport marches to the beat of his drum.

So, when it comes to the Dragang, what's his ultimate plan? He wants Callum to give him the Dark Magic spell to take down Domina Profundis, and he seems to think he can bargain for this.

Instead of immediately revealing his trump card with the blood freezing spell, he tries to bargin with Callum, offering freedom for a "simple" exchange.

So, once he realises Callum "completely lost himself" seeing Rayla in pain, why dispose of her? Was it to try and completely break Callum? That runs the risk of only alienating him further, though. Rayla could have been the ultimate leverage. Why not subject her to the freezing spell in front of Callum again? Control him that way?

Or did he want Callum desperate? Did he intentionally leave him with the slugs hoping he'd break, resort to Dark Magic in a desperate bid to free the person he clearly cares so much for? Did Finnegrin gamble on Callum realising he was willing to do Dark Magic if given the sufficient incentive.

Was he bidding on him coming to Rayla’s rescue, only to fall victim to the freezing spell himself?

Was he then planning to subject Rayla to the spell once again, hoping to push Callum to agree to doing his Dark Magic bidding in exchange for her release from torture?

Did Finnegrin ultimately underestimate just how far Callum was willing to go for Rayla? He has no idea this is the same boy who jumped off the Storm Spire for her with only the desperate hope he knew how to do a spell the might save them both.

How could Finnegrin ever have known that the depth of Callum's love for Rayla would allow him to unlock hidden depths within himself and ultimately understand a new Arcanum?

It's so interesting and so exceedingly frustrating how agab is being utilized now within the queer community as a way to isolate and sort nonbinary and genderqueer folks into binary boxes that determine their moral purity levels, and their authority to do and write and exist.

The way nonbinary writers are being put under accusation of fetishizing gay men while their AGAB is continually brought up in a way that feels like queer-space-approved misgendering.

The way feminist circles that are supposedly trans-inclusive will use the word AFAB in a way that implicitly but intentionally isolates nonbinary people who aren't AFAB from joining. It's for women*.

The way the language is already flawed and leaves out intersex folks from the conversations while focusing on a binary of sex that isn't truthful.

The constant obsessing over whether someone is AFAB or AMAB and whether or not that gives them the privilege to join, do, write, or be present in certain spaces really really concerns me. How are we supposed to dismantle a binary system of gender if we can't even move past forcibly assigning and focusing on people's genders assigned at birth?

Yes it's the daily mail, but they have good sports journalists. The Horner email circulated through the whole paddock, so the alleged Mercedes employee could have gotten hold of the email and copied all the recipients from there. Plus the Horner leaks turned out to be true. And other journalists have mentioned the email the day it was sent (June 10) but for some reason there hasn't been a media storm about it - which is suspicious, but Mercedes have probably threatened legal action.

and you don’t think Christian would have threatened legal action? You don’t think any of these journalists, some of whom work for the largest sports media conglomerates in the planet, would risk legal action in order to break what would be one of the biggest stories in recent F1 history?

There hasn’t been a media storm because most of these journalists can smell bullshit and were able to tell that this email was written by a lame fan with way too much time on their hands (but not enough apparently to check their spelling). The only ones who couldn’t happen to work for the one tabloid that I could email right now and say that I’m Kate Middleton’s long lost sister and they’d be interviewing me by tomorrow. Be serious.
