Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses
Social media marketing is a great way for small businesses to reach potential customers and grow their brand. Here’s a quick guide to get started:
Pick the Right Platforms Focus on platforms where your target audience is most active. For example, Instagram is great for visual brands, while LinkedIn is perfect for B2B.
Create Simple, Engaging Content Share valuable and visually appealing posts like product photos, tips, or behind-the-scenes content. Keep it short and relevant to your audience.
Post Consistently Develop a posting schedule and stick to it. Regular posting helps keep your audience engaged and improves your online presence.
Engage with Your Followers Respond to comments and messages to build trust and loyalty. Interaction shows your business is active and cares about its audience.
Run Ads on a Budget Social media ads are cost-effective and allow you to target specific demographics. Start small and track the performance of your ads.
By following these steps, small businesses can effectively use social media marketing to build an audience, increase brand awareness, and grow their customer base.

Here's a lil comic strip about how you can protect your art before sharing it to the public!!!
Against AI and against art theft too!
Click on 'read more' to see the extra tip I mentioned at the end!
Geez been working on this since the Meta AI things blew up but I only finished just now!!
Here's the extra tip I mentioned at the end:
you can use http://haveibeentrained.com to search for your images and find out if your work has been used for AI.
In there, you can choose to opt out, but AI companies are not obligated to respect it so it isn't too much of a protection unfortunately 😭
Also be aware that they are associated with AI and they did try to badmouth glaze so artists wouldn't protect themselves; which's very bad for a company that allegedly are on the side of the artists.
Also!!! There's a new type of AI that I was just made aware of last week, Copainter.
It completes unfinished work, which can be used for 'stealing and claiming it theirs', so put a cat picture in the next wips you post as well!
Funny protective measure I know LOLLLL but here's the tests for yall cynical people:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Perhaps I'll complete this comic with this info one day, but just these 10 slides took a looot of work so probably not happening anytime soon 😭
Thank you for reading everything though, I really appreciate it and hope this will help 🫶 be careful out there, privacy issues have been crazy recently!!!

Working in marketing in this day and age is wild because I get to see upclose the way AI is being pushed as a tool to use to churn out content by our bosses because a lot of companies still have this 2010s mindset that they need to be populating the internet regularly with useless articles on how to do things just to stay relevant on search engines but this takes so much time and effort on the part of humans because the articles have to make at least a little sense and require research on an industry you may know nothing about but marketing firms require you to be able to write a nonsense essay about for the SEO but of course if it's just automated we don't need to worry about it, this isn't a serious writing endeavor intent on helping end users, it's about pushing the product at the end of another 300 word article, living and dying by the whims of yet another algorithm

one of the interesting things about these ‘democratizing’ apps/programs is that sometimes, the biggest consequence isn’t a loss of jobs. sometimes stuff just looks way worse, and no one really notices.
- web designers argued over drag & drop site builders like squarespace. as it turns out, big corps continued to hire them, but now there’s tons of small businesses with poorly laid-out, barely functional shopifys.
- graphic designers challenged picmonkey-esque programs’ claims that anyone could make professional designs, without needing experience. major agencies still contract graphic designers, but we lose the rich oil painting covers on cheap romance novels, in favor of bland 15-minute canva creations.
honestly, i’m an ‘art is art is art’ person who thinks a roomba spilling a cup of juice on a carpet should be considered art. my contention here is that these apps didn’t suddenly give everyone the skills needed to fulfill their artistic visions, they just trivialized the work that goes into so much of the art we see. it then became so obvious that the industry actors who could afford it would keep using the more expensive services, while the rest of us wade through endless mediocre output. it’s like a rich person hiring a well-trained italian barista, then telling you that you’ve been provided for because they gave you a 90s paper-cup drink vending machine. the coffee just isn’t the same.

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?
I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.
A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf
I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
TL;DR yeah etsy and USPS are Both Weird, sorry ; - ; i assure you i hate it even More than you do lmao

I’m very, very sorry I didn’t post new videos to my YT this year but 2023 was intense. I want to be more consistent in 2024. Let’s pray WW3 doesn’t break out.

Death of Twitter and sudden increase in enjoyment of social media
Prior to Twitter dying, I spent about 50% of my time there, and 40% of my time here on Tumblr, and the rest on Instagram.
I always felt a compulsion to be active on Twitter, I felt it would be good for the company, even though it was never terribly enjoyable for me, personally. I don’t have a great reason why. I curated my feed but it always felt like a losing battle.
Since EM bought Twitter, I have been spending about 75% of my social media time here on Tumblr, I keep YouTube on in the background when I’m working, and I’m getting into Pinterest.
Pinterest I feel is going to be extremely similar. I like to browse and file pins for 10 minutes while coffee is brewing or I’m waiting a meeting to start. It feels like “tumblr with broader image discovery.” Prior to this I never went on Pinterest. It had been years since I cracked it open.
YouTube -- I finally replaced my ancient television and after being perplexed with the new options (i am deeply, deeply a book person) -- is great for having in the background. I’m enjoying my time there immensely. I am not an overly active YouTube watcher. Prior to all of this I spent maybe 10 minutes on YouTube a year.
Tumblr -- I post here a lot. I enjoy it. I am using it less as a visual discovery platform than before (Pinterest is taking care of that), but I’m using it more and skipping text posts far less.
TikTok / Instagram -- I’m using Instagram now for more personal rambles, it is easy to format things for cross posting, so even minimal reward to the business is worth minimal effort. I can see myself using both Instagram and TikTok for very casual inking sessions or drawing sessions.
Overall, like I say, I would rate my time on social media to be exceptionally less frustrating and equally-so more enjoyable.
The death (to me) of Twitter has improved my mental health.
I had no idea how much aggravation I allowed/invited with that platform. This is entirely unexpected and I’m sinking it into my brain.
Thank you? Elon Musk I guess?

Hey there! My name is Sam and I'm a candle maker with my own shop called The Merry Wick! I create scents inspired by music and stories whether they be from movies, shows, or books. I get pretty deeply attached to my favorite things and always want to experience them to the fullest extent, hence turning those favorite things into scents! Like 99% of Small Businesses right now, I am super frustrated and discouraged by standard social media, and as a person I am so incredibly exhausted by it. Every day I think about just deleting Instagram ( I already deleted TikTok ) but if I want to have a small business it doesn't feel like it's an option.
I know the middle ground is just to fix my relationship with social media, but since my business is small, I work alone from home and it is the closest thing I have to every day socialization as well. I'm trying to find a space that works for me, where I feel connected and can share the things I create, but not feel like i'm drowning. I'm not sure if that space exists, but heres to trying! ❤️

looks like I can get about 4k views on instagram before someone decides to insult me for daring to be visibly fat on camera. so that’s cool.
