the whole tiktok ban situation is super crunchy and I'm conflicted. Because on the one hand...it does feel startlingly close to a kind of censorship and I think the whole 'chinese government links' thing is pure scaremongering. But on the other hand I genuinely think that tiktok has accelerated the rate of enshittification of so, so many things. Like it has been a net harm in basically everything. Even the publishing industry is suffering now. As someone who wants to get novels published, the entire state of the publishing industry catering to tiktok and the quality of even bookbinding rapidly deteriorating in the past couple of years, I've been reconsidering and thinking about simply setting up a website/archive to self publish my work.

So...I don't know. It's not as if other social media sites (X, Facebook, etc.) haven't done harm, and it's not like huge media giants like Google haven't caused possibly irreparable damage to how things work now, but...I just distinctly remember a pre-tiktok, pre-covid world and things legitimately weren't as bad online then as they are now. Tiktok actually feels uniquely bad. The change happened so rapidly, too. At what point do we decide that a product causes enough visible harm that it needs to be removed? Because that's what tiktok is, at the end of the day. It's a product. We don't have the same clear measurement as we do with, say, lead paint on children's toys, but idk idk idk...

Personally I think the death of internet forums has ruined what a fandom used to be, because we now got everyone in one pot chewing each other’s head off. You can’t talk about how YOU interpret your favorite media without some idiot coming to forcefully agree with their take. I think we gotta start saying make your “own damn post” like yes im disagreeing with you but also get the fuck out of here this post is not for you and you clearly have a different opinion than mine. i used to hang out on a dumb fandom forum where, without fail, everytime the topic of de came up, someone would come in like 'i refuse to play that game because the characters and art style are positively ghastly! no matter how much it's recommended i simply cannot subject my tender eyes to that affront to style!' like every fucking time it came up they would barge in to remind everyone of their wounded aesthetic sensibilities. so like when you guys are dunking on one tumblr post that thought harry was ugly, you have no idea how much worse it can get

Well I mean I think they're kind of still around just maybe not using that term anymore since it became associated with some very hardcore weirdos who used that term to instill a sense of like... Life experience and safety that they often used to be very weird to kids and teenagers. So like the idea of the fandom mom dying is maybe a good thing.

But if the question is just "why don't older women seem to be in our corner of fandom spaces anymore" it's probably because there's been a precedent in fandom for years that women over 30 deserve to be made fun of for being "old" women with interests other than raising their kids. Cannot imagine that I would want to stay in a place like that either if I were them

Anyone else think the purified Spirits of Darkness in Digimon Frontier look like they've been switched around? The Human Spirit looks more like KaiserLeomon than the Beast Spirit.

Opinions on Secret Level Mega Man?

If I have to be completely honest, I cannot say I have any real excitement for this iteration. Most of my past experiences with any film-based, streaming-service-based adaptation for any video games have not been good ones. And while creative freedom to make changes to a new adaptation is one thing, what I've come across so far feel like they miss the "core" of the source material, so it's as though I am not watching something from said series but something completely different with the same name.

Could I be too hard on a simple teaser? Maybe. But the last time I had huge hopes for something I liked, the people behind it seemed to think their changes were fixing problems that didn't exist.

Also I think that kid that may be the Mega Man in question looks like Lionsgate Pinocchio. It's giving too much "corporate-realistic" cartoon style that I'm not fond of.

nosy anon again making a return because i think what my brain did was read that i helped find some kind of writing and then did not fully process what the writing was?? but upon rereading i am very intrigued if you ever get the urge to share i will be all eyes/ears/senses required to enjoy things!!

I GET TO DO WIP WEDNESDAYYYYYY!!! the writing exists mostly in the form of a tag (fantastic! 'verse) and also a thirty-two page doc of snippets and planning, so the sense you will be using most is imagination:

don't think i have ever actually formally written out anything about fantastic! 'verse but! the tl;dr of it is that it's a semi-college au: joel is still a hockey player for the lv phantoms, but morgan is a college student-athlete. it's incredibly relevant to the plot that joel falls in love with morgan in the check-out line of a wegman's, lies a little bit, and ends up going back to get his degree.

most of it is just good fun about college kids growing up, but i think there's a lot of parallels between making your way through a development system where traditional "success" isn't always guaranteed (ahl -> nhl, completion of higher education -> pursuit of a career) because that development system isn't always designed for you to "succeed" or have opportunities. heavy quotation marks around success because part of that struggle is learning what you want in life and how you define success. are your dreams achievable? are they still the same dreams you always used to have? it's infinite branching universes of would you still love me if i was a worm (ahl player forever) (a college dropout) (a college graduate) (older) (realizing the fallibility of your body) (uncertain of the future) (human).
