In the United States, a quarter of Children on the Autism Spectrum are abused physically, mentally, or even sexually. As a consequence, this leads many autistic individuals to later attempt suicide, with the highest number reaching 1 in 10.
Understand the symptoms of autism, and understand the signs of abuse.

This one is important.
So many people, myself included, just want to create something for the sake of creating, but we've never had enough money to never worry about rent. If I could, I would just do art and code all day long.

WEEK 3 - This is How You Connect Practice with Society
This week we talked about “Can I be a Social Agent if I am an Artist/Designer?” and “What is Socially-Engaged Practice?”
First of all, I would like to answer the question, “Can I be a Social Agent if I am an Artist/Designer?” Yes, I think I can be a Social Agent if I am an artist/designer, because it could be said that designer/artist is an intermediary who conveys messages to society through designs and arts.
“What is Socially-Engaged Practice?”, often called social practice or socially engaged art, encompasses any art form that involves people and communities in dialogue, collaboration, or social interaction.
“Barbara Kruger”
She explores and conveys about feminism, gender, consumerism, political, and social through her artworks such as “Your Body is a Battleground” and “You Are Not Yourself”, with her design style using effects and pasting words on the image.
Class Activity : Create 1 - 1.5mins documentary about local issue you consider important to highlight.
We were asked to form a group of 4 and create documentary of 1 - 1.5mins about local issue in 45 minutes, then my group started to discuss on what local issue we should focus on, we decided to do documentary of Singaporean slang words/Singlish as three of us are foreigners and at first we had difficulty to understand Singlish. In the video we mentioned some of the Singlish words such as “Shag” means tired, “Sian” means bored/tired, “Alamak” means damn/an expression of shock, “Phaiseh” means embarrassed/ashamed, “Can One” means sure can, etc. Singapore is a country with a lot of tourists and international students, In my opinion, by using a proper English will help us communication with each other more easily.

Navigating Social Issues: A Closer Look
Social issues have always shaped societies, influencing public opinion, policies, and the way we interact with one another. From economic inequalities to climate change, the concerns we face today require thoughtful consideration and collective action. Understanding these issues is essential for fostering a more inclusive and fair society. In this blog, we will explore some significant social issues while highlighting the importance of informed dialogue and engagement. Additionally, we invite you to sign up for a free copy of George Magazine to stay updated on the latest insights related to these matters.
Understanding Key Social Issues
Economic Inequality
Economic inequality remains a pressing concern worldwide. The gap between the wealthy and the poor continues to widen, leading to social tensions and unrest. Factors such as globalization, tax policies, and access to education significantly influence the distribution of wealth. Addressing economic inequality requires policies that promote fair wages and equal opportunities for all.
Climate Change
Another significant issue is climate change, which poses a threat to our planet and future generations. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and loss of biodiversity are just a few of the consequences we face. Tackling climate change calls for collective action and sustainable practices that prioritize the health of our planet. Communities must work together to promote renewable energy, conservation, and responsible consumption.
Racial and Social Justice
Racial and social justice movements have gained momentum in recent years, emphasizing the need for equality and representation across various sectors. Activism has played a crucial role in raising awareness and pushing for systemic change. Understanding the historical context of these issues is essential for fostering empathy and driving meaningful change.
Mental Health Awareness
Mental health is another critical area that deserves attention. The stigma surrounding mental health issues often prevents individuals from seeking help, leading to increased isolation and suffering. Public campaigns and education can help break down these barriers and promote understanding. Mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health, ensuring everyone has access to support and resources.
Education and Access
Education plays a vital role in shaping societal progress. However, access to quality education remains uneven across different communities. Factors such as socioeconomic status, geographic location, and systemic biases can hinder opportunities for many individuals. Promoting equal access to education can empower individuals and contribute to a more equitable society.
The Role of Media in Shaping Perspectives
The media plays a crucial role in how social issues are perceived and discussed. Responsible journalism can highlight injustices and encourage informed discussions. However, sensationalism and biased reporting can create misunderstandings and deepen divisions. It is essential for individuals to seek out credible sources and engage with diverse perspectives to foster a well-rounded understanding of the issues at hand.

No offence but I feel like some people got a little too comfortable with telling people to touch grass and swung all the way round to just straight up shaming anyone who might have a less active social life than them to feel better about themselves. “She should be at the club” was a really funny meme until people started acting like fucking middle school bullies towards people who don’t go out with their friends a lot. All those drinking/drugs/sex milestone polls were fun to engage with until it became a wierd circlejerk making fun of people who haven’t done those things before. People on twitter are once again dogpiling someone for wanting queer social spaces that don’t revolve around alcohol or loud music and telling them it’s their own fault for not having friends.
Like I get that nightclubs and sex have strong ties to queer culture and are often the first targets in the hellscape of respectability politics. It’s important we remember our roots and protect these spaces from conservative scrutiny. I mean that. They are important. But just on a surface level it seems like people are starting to see having an inactive social life as some kind of moral failing which…it’s not. I feel like an insane person for feeling like I have to say this on the fucking queer autism website but like. You aren’t inherently a bad person if you don’t have friends. You aren’t “falling behind” if you haven’t had your first kiss in your 20s or never done drugs. The real world isn’t a movie. And if you see someone who doesn’t go out much and instinctually think “wow what a terminally online loser. I bet their social life sucks because they’re a sheltered creep and not because of systemic barriers beyond their control” you need to have a long hard look at why you feel that way.
There are very real barriers that prevent isolated people from finding community and connection. Do you think you’re superior for being able to breach them? Time, money, sobriety, accessibility, none of those factors were a problem for you, so it shouldn’t be for them, right? Right?
#the wider issue is that there are little to no social spaces that don’t charge you to be there anymore#capitalism has all but eradicated the third space

I’m just here to remind everyone once again that we can’t stop protesting and boycotting and spreading the word for Palestine, even if it’s been a while. The people in power (mainly the Israeli and US governments) are relying on us losing steam.
And I do want to mention that a small bit of hope to be found among all of this is that things aren’t losing steam. I still see dozens of posts about Palestine every day, I see footage of protests almost every day, and the boycotts are working. I just want to encourage everyone that we just need to keep it up! I’ve seen so many social issues fade out over time, a week of outrage and then things settle down, but that isn’t the case here and I really respect everyone who’s still posting and protesting and seeking out information to end this once and for all. Focus on that hope, and use it to keep going :)

EDIT: I've now made a post that you can read here with more information about the ICJ rulings, their powers and what we can do with this ruling here. I had to this morning and will continue to delete, report, and block all comments/asks that are anti-Arab, zionist, Islamophobic, racist, and/or antisemitic.
We already knew this but the ICJ has now ruled that Israel's continued occupation of Palestine is illegal and needs to end ASAP.
They found that Israel's occupation does not give it the right of sovereignty over the West Bank and Gaza and that it is not a temporary occupation but is an illegal, permanent and discriminatory annexation. The ICJ also found violence against Palestinians, Israeli exploitation of Palestinian natural resources, transfer of civilian population (settlers and companies/organisations), extension of Israeli laws to replace local Palestinian laws, forced displacement of Palestinians, confiscation of Palestinian land, annexation. That Israel's 'security concerns' are not valid justifications for any of these measures.
The ICJ has ordered Israel to end its presence in the West Bank and Gaza immediately and to cease all new settlement activity, return all lands and assets to Palestinians that they've ceased since 1967 and that includes archives and items of cultural significance, evacuate all of their settlers from the settlements, pay compensation, and repeal all laws that maintain this occupation and discrimination. The ICJ is not legally-binding but does carry significant political weight and this ruling is important for continuing to advocate for Palestine and to put pressure on our government's to do the right thing and for them to put pressure on Israel. Keep contacting your representatives!

So apparently some Swiss company found out that Brazilian blood has more immunoglobulin (which is used in some medications made by pharma companies) than European blood, and now international pharma companies are lobbying to change Brazilian law to allow them to use our blood as a resource
There is no current evidence that those things are related, but it just so happens that at the same time there is also another law being discussed that would get rid of "bureaucracy" when it comes to ethics analyses of trials on humans. It would also remove the right, which all brazilians currently have, to access to the medication resulting from the trials they participated in
Both sources are in Portuguese because both news have been recently broke by a Brazilian investigative news agency, but if you don't speak it, you can always use automatic translation
I know there's a lot of fucked up shit happening in the world right now, but please pay attention to medical rights in Brasil right now. Especially if you're European, because virtually every company related to this is from your continent and plans to benefit you above all
ETA: using blood as a resource for these medications is not new; however, current law in brasil only allows that use to come from donated blood (because it comes from the plasma and apparently not all of it is used in blood transfusion; I'm not a doctor so I'm not clear on the details but that's the gist of it) and to be processed and used by Hemobrás, the State-owned company that handles this type of medical technology. The new law would allow for private companies to buy our blood from blood banks for their use. It is worth noting that at least one company has already explicitly stated that they won't be making the resulting medication available in the Brazilian market, so, essentially, they will be taking blood Brazilians donated to help other Brazilians and using it to treat immunocompromised Europeans, to the detriment of immunocompromised Brazilians that need the medicine. In the process, they will be making it harder for our State-owned company to use that same blood, forcing us to import from them and therefore making the medication more expensive. They also want to make it possible for Brazilians to sell their own blood - a deeply ethically questionable practice that is discouraged by the WHO and that has led to HIV outbreaks in Brasil in the past
