#So there were cats who figured out the parentage of the three before it was revealed. but you still dont question it.

Do Nightcloud and Leafpool ever talk after the gathering? Or will it be a case of forever misunderstanding?
I think I want to add a moment in Nightcloud's Pannage. I got fixated on it last night and made a pretty rough outline; but a BIG snag I hit is that I don't have a fantastic ending in mind.
I have these little scenes linked together by Nightcloud encountering each humbug, ending with her being injured, saved by Marge, and then spending a week or so recovering with Pickle. But something isn't clicking enough yet. I might get all my ideas together and then release it so I can get feedback.
But anyway-- to answer the question, I think I should have Night and Leaf just chat at a Gathering. SUPER briefly. They'll never be friends, but I think it'll benefit Nightcloud to realize that Leafpool caught SO much more shit than she did. They're both victims of Crowf in different ways, and it was never fair to hate Leafpool for her awful husband's actions.
After a life of hating Leafpool, thinking she was a pawn of Firestar in "finding" the Moonpool, furious of how Crowfeather seemed to be awfully fond of her, going absolutely ballistic when she found out she BIRTHED Crowf's other children; I think it's good for Nightcloud to slow down and realize demonizing her was easy. And Leaf is still dealing with that fallout; even though she's reinstated as a Cleric.

Propaganda under the cut.
Mapleshade:
Ok I also submitted her to the toxic mothers tourney, so my description here is the exact same thing that I submitted there. THIS IS NOT PLAGIARISM. I AM THE ORIGINAL SUBMITTER. Mapleshade was a cat who died several generations before the main series began. She had kids through an illegal relationship with the man who killed her leader’s son, and she and her very young children were ultimately exiled from their Clan when the truth of their parentage was revealed. Mapleshade tried to take them across the river to their father, and all three kittens were swept away and drowned. Mapleshade then went on a grief-fueled killing spree, driven by hallucinations of her dead children urging her to kill the cats she perceived to be responsible for their deaths. Eventually, she confronted her ex and his pregnant mate (bc oh yeah, it turns out Mapleshade was the Other Woman), and the ex was killed protecting his pregnant mate. Mapleshade also died in this fight, but her hatred was so strong that she basically became a demon in cat hell and declared eternal suffering on her ex’s entire bloodline. Two generations later, the ex’s grandson breaks his jaw as a kitten and is rejected by his mother. Mapleshade swoops in as a maternal figure and promises to make the poor kid into the best warrior he can be, despite his broken jaw being a significant disability. She grooms and manipulates him throughout his entire life, and every person he loves dies horribly, one by one. Whether or not Mapleshade actually caused these deaths is unclear, but she does make Crookedstar (the cat she’s been manipulating) believe that she’s caused them. This is because when Crookedstar was a small, rejected child, she made him promise her that he would always put his Clan first. Being a kid, Crookedstar made the promise without a second thought, not realizing that Mapleshade meant that he could never be close with anyone (since that would mean putting his loved ones before his Clan). Therefore, Crookedstar thinks that every death of his loved ones is a punishment from Mapleshade, his maternal figure, for breaking the promise he made as a kitten.
Gertrude Robinson:
She is the definition of the trolley problem. Sacrificing those who trusted her in order to save the world, only to find out the world would have been safe either way.
Gertrude is a badass old lady who killed many people and many monsters, ate people’s fears and forced information out of them. She manipulated folks into doing what she needed, neglected the health of one of her closest allies, and stopped several apocalyptic rituals. She was only stopped because the guy trying to manipulate her into ending the world shot her in the chest three times. Morally gray queen, rest in violence maam
She once dismembered a guy and dumped him in a sinkhole, destroying an entire town, in order to prevent the end of the world. She's dedicated to preventing various armageddons, and her favorite methods to do so involve plastic explosives.

Toxic Lightning Round 1: Warriors
Rainflower vs. Millie vs. Lizardstripe vs. Mapleshade
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why they're the Worst (TM)
Rainflower:
Basically disowned her son after he was permanently disabled due to falling in the river and smashing his jaw on a rock. Had him RENAMED after his injury (Stormkit -> Crookedkit) and said she couldn't love him because he was "ugly". Spent the rest of her life ignoring him and heavily favoring her other son and Crooked's brother. AND YET. SHE STILL GOT TO GO TO HEAVEN???
She didn’t allow him as a small child to sleep in the same nest as her and his brother, basically the cat version of throwing him out on the streets. Rainflower also forced their leader to change his name to something that reflected his disability, and once he was old enough to provide for himself effectively disowned him. This extreme emotional abuse had a huge effect on both of her sons, and caused her disabled son to literally start training in cat hell because he didn’t feel appreciated anywhere else.
read more here
Millie
Treated her daughter's disability as a tragedy and used it as an excuse to neglect her other children. Briarlight deserved better 🔪🔪🔪
Lizardstripe
tw: cat murder)))) let the kitteh win the tournament, she pretty much just hated her kits including a foster kitten she was forced to adopt, and that foster kitten was bullied by her kits and he was blamed for it. pretty toxic mom ngl also she's a kitty look at the lil hissy girl look at her /affectionate (this also goes for rainflower too I just hate her)
Mapleshade:
Oh boy, strap in bc this one’s crazy. So, Mapleshade was a cat who died several generations before the main series began.

As I gently ease myself back into the habit of writing, have a silly pet AU crossover with Dan and Raziel. No proofreading, we write one dumb idea and vanish like men.
*
Transcript of a post on Readthat by moryt666
Help my cat and my friend’s dog are pining for each other. Are they in love?
Before you call me a lunatic, let me give some background. Two months ago my friend got a chance to do a short placement abroad, but she needed someone to look after her dog. I’ve had dogs before, my cats have always got on fine with them, so I agreed to take him on.
[Image ID: A large long haired white cat with amber eyes and a red collar sitting next to a small grey cat with yellow eyes and a blue collar.]
Edit: I’m not a breeder and don’t know Raziel’s parentage. When I got Kain, I was assured he was a three year old neutered male. I only found out that was a lie after he escaped and came back pregnant, and by then I didn’t want to change his name or pronouns. Every kitten in the litter could have had a different father for all I know.
Kiya had warned me beforehand that while he’s loyal and obedient to a fault, Dan isn’t very bright for a collie. It turns out that was an understatement. With absolute affection, that dog is a dumb as a bag of rocks.
To being with the cats ignored him, which was fine. I was busy trying to figure out life with a clingy dog who faced such problems as:
-The catnip mouse won’t play with him
-The doors are in a different place to Kiya’s apartment (he never did figure that one out and still tries to go for walkies through the closet door)
-A door is less than half open and he can’t get through
-He tried getting through a half closed door and shut himself in
-The cats hate him
-Spiders exist. I found this one out when he started howling at 2am. The same dog who once mauled an abusive ex-boyfriend will refuse to be in the same room as a money spider.
Well my clever little Raziel figured out the last one. I heard the start of the Spider Howl, saw a grey blur streak across the kitchen on a search a destroy mission, and the howl stopped. A moment later, Raziel zoomed back in, followed by Dan.
After that, I don’t think Dan stopped following him, tail wagging, except to eat and go for walks. He’d sit at the bottom of the cat tree gazing up adoringly at his saviour, drag his bed next to Razzie’s, and never give him a moment’s peace.
I kept an eye on things because Raziel likes his space, but after about three days of this I found them curled up on the sofa together.
[Image ID: A collie dog lying on a beige sofa with one paw around a small grey cat. Both of them have their eyes closed.]
After that they were pretty much inseparable. Raziel would sit at the door whenever I took Dan for a walk waiting for us to get back. They’d sleep together, eat together and groom each other.
And then Kiya came back home. It’s been three days. Raziel has spent all of them sitting by the front door yowling. Kiya is coming round for dinner every night so they can see each other, because the bloody animals refuse to eat otherwise.
I have no idea what to do. Are we going to have to move in together? Help.

Headcanons for Hel? What about general children of Loki sibling dynamic headcanons.
vans will take this one
muse vans: hellooo idk when this was from but i saw it yesterday for the first time with my name attached so i’m answering it now :D
okay so i’m thinking Hel is the eldest, then Jormungandr, Fenrir, Sleipnir, Narfi, and finally Nari (the parentage of Vali is unclear, but i think Odin is mentioned as his father more times than Loki, so i’m not counting Vali as his son).
also, i think that Hel, Jormungandr, and Fenrir lived with Angrboda when they were children, until they were sent to Niflheim, Midgard and the River Van, respectively- so these three siblings are particularly close.
as the oldest, i think Hel is a leader-type figure. i like to imagine that she takes pride in directing and ordering her younger siblings around.
she enjoys dark humour i think, and maybe she’s a little morbid!! but i don’t think that she’s evil at all, and she’s not cruel- she’s just.. well, she’s just Hel.
i don’t think that Hel is particularly sentimental, but i do think that she values her siblings, and i’d like to think her half-siblings as well :)
another thing about Hel is that i think she hates being wrong and she hates being undermined.. i think she’s a very intelligent and strong young goddess.
also- although she does appreciate being acknowledged for all her skills and work, she can’t be bought with flattery- i think she has a great respect for the laws of the universe and of fate, as evidenced in her reluctance to let Baldr go when he was sent to her.
related to the Baldr myth, i think that Hel knew that Loki would do something to prevent Baldr from returning for real, which is why she made the promise to bring him back if everything in the world wept for him (because she knew it was impossible to do in the first place!).. if she hadn’t been sure of her father’s intentions, then i honestly don’t think she’d have made that kind of promise because she knows that all things have their appointed time.
next is Jormungandr :D i think Jormungandr is generally a pretty quiet kid.
i don’t think he really likes causing too much trouble, and for the most part, is probably the least like Loki.
i think he enjoys jokes and pranks (but not dark ones, the way Hel likes).
one thing that does make him pretty irritated though is... Thor! there are three distinct myths that Jormungandr appears in, and all three of them involve some encounter with Thor.
in the first one- Thor’s strength is tested by some dude who challenges him to lift up Jormungandr.. of course, physically speaking, Jormungandr would never be able to be lifted completely off the ground, so Jorumgandr gets turned into a cat instead, which Thor lifts a lot more easy.
i think after this incident, Jormungandr was really annoyed by Thor, and also he hates cats.
the second incident is when Thor goes fishing and Jormungandr gets caught on the fishing line.
i’d like to imagine when Jormungandr realised it was Thor who caught him, he was just like, “YOU?? AGAIN?!!” poor boy.. he can’t catch a break T-T
the third one and final incident is their meeting at Ragnarok, and i think Jormungandr is probably pretty keen on getting even with Thor after being traumatised countless times by him.
okay then Fenrir! contrary to the rest of his siblings, i think Fenrir originally had really good relations with the Asgardians.
when they were first brought to Asgard, i think Tyr and Fenrir immediately bonded. i’d like to imagine Tyr playing with Fenrir as a little pup and playing frisbee or something,,
i say this because, if Tyr and Fenrir actually had a bond before Fenrir was bounded, it would make sense why Tyr was willing to place his hand in Fenrir’s mouth, and why Fenrir asks Tyr of all the Asgardians to do it- because if Tyr was lying, then the betrayal is just so much more bitter and tragic because the trust and friendship that they had is broken </3
so before Fenrir was bonded, i think he was very playful and fun and lighthearted,, but after he gets chained up, i think he becomes very bitter and angry,, and he probably has trust issues :/
in saying this, i don’t think Tyr really wanted to chain Fenrir up either, but the prophecies about Ragnarok kinda spooked out everyone, so Tyr didn’t have much of a choice.. but he didn’t have the opportunity to explain that to Fenrir, and i think even if he could, it would be too little, too late :/
Sleipnir is the outlier child,, i don’t think he had much time with the rest of his siblings because he was raised within Odin’s palace.. if he did have a relationship with his siblings though, i think that they’d definitely all get along.
i think Sleipnir would be really fun to be around- i’d imagine he’d have gotten along with Fenrir the best ^-^
okiee and now for Narfi and Nari. as Sigyn’s children, i think they’re definitely more sheltered than Angrboda’s children.
they have, for the most part, a much more comfortable and happy life,, and i think that the first time that Narfi and Nari met their half-siblings, it would be very evident from the beginning how different their lives are.
even so, Sigyn has always been a very friendly and kind soul in my head, and i can’t imagine her being malicious or mean to any of Loki’s other children.. in fact, i think she’d be moved with compassion for these children who were forcibly taken from their mother in Jotunheim and moved to a strange new land just so that they can be observed like criminals just because of some prophecy.
i think Sigyn would make sure that Narfi and Nari did their best to get along, and i think this makes all the difference- there is never any need to compare Angrboda’s children’s lifestyles with Sigyn’s children’s.
at first, i think Narfi and Nari are both pretty shy.. but Hel (before she moves to Niflheim) teaches them to be more confident in themselves, because she’s the big sister and she’s happy to take them under her wing.
Hel isn’t overtly sentimental though, so i think she likes to pretend that the family picture Nari drew of Hel, Fenrir, Jormungandr, Sleipnir, Narfi and himself together under a rainbow didn’t affect her.. but secretly she was crying on the inside :)
anyways, this leads me to my final hc which concerns Ragnarok.
i don’t think that Hel, Jormungandr and Fenrir fight on Loki’s side because they particularly care about their father’s feelings. i honestly don’t. that’s not to say that Loki was a bad father or they didn’t look up to him as a father, that kinda doesn’t matter. i think they fight on Loki’s side because they fight for the family that was broken by the Asgardians (as opposed to the idea that they fight just for the sake of fighting and/or bringing chaos to the world).
so, there isn’t really one “real” villain during Ragnarok- it’s really just a culmination of different perspectives and mistakes and misunderstandings.. which, i guess, is what makes the whole thing so terribly sad :///

Ogata’s iconic gesture
We’re all familiar with the way Ogata’s caresses his hair...
...to the point it had become his iconic gesture so that even the first time he shows up on a cover he’s shown doing it...
Tumblr media
...and he’s also shown doing it in a colour illustration which was used as cover for chap 79
Tumblr media
...and in one of the summaries for the skin count.
Tumblr media
It’s clear he doesn’t do it just to comb his hair as he had been shown doing it even when he wears a hat so, more than fixing his hair, it’s clear he’s sort of caressing himself, making that gesture a self comfort gesure he might perform in an unconscious manner.
The movement is likely based on how cats groom their fur...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...a not so indirect reference to Ogata’s nickname, ‘Yamaneko’ (“Wildcat”).
While cats groom themselves for practical reasons, they also groom if they feel embarrassed, anxious, or to calm themselve, which would tie well with this being Ogata’s self comfort gesture.
But let’s look at when he does it through the manga.
Note that there are instances in which it’s actually unclear if he’s doing it so I will leave them for last.
The first time is in chap 43.
Tumblr media
Ogata thinks Tanigaki might have killed Tamai, Noma and Okada and he’s obviously not pleased. Later, he will hunt Tanigaki in retaliation even though it’s completely useless as, as we’ll discover in chap 243, he’s aware Tsurumi already knows of their rebellion and is hunting them, meaning remaining there to hunt Tanigaki is a mere waste of time, a hint Ogata in that moment felt a deep grudge toward Tanigaki if he decided to spend his time so uselessly. As he pats his hair Ogata’s face is shadowed. It’s clear he’s not in a happy mood.
So the grooming can be a soothing gesture for him. He has to keep calm and not shoot Tanigaki right then or he’ll involve Huci too, whom, he’ll reveal, he wanted to spare.
We continue with chap 46.
Tumblr media
In it Ogata does it before praparing himself to face the soldiers Tsurumi is sending against him. As the situation is clearly risky, it makes sense he’s soothing himself with a quick ‘hair grooming’ before facing his enemies.
We move to chap 70.
Tumblr media
For who doesn’t remember it the scene happens prior to Ushiyama listing all the skins they got, pointing out the last one was recovered by Ogata...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...but prior to Ogata casually questioning Hijikata.
It’s hard to say why exactly he’s grooming himself, it can be he’s calming himself a bit before having to question someone like Hijikata, who basically doesn’t trust anyone. Of course it can also be tied to the memories Ogata had of how he got the skin in Barato, where another ‘father’ tried to kill his own son, something which clearly reminded Ogata of his own father.
We continue with chap 78.
Tumblr media
Ogata, who’s cornered behind a table and some stuffed corpses, pats his head when Tsukishima attacks him, saying he’s betraying them to surpass his father. Again his face is shadowed and his expression somewhat pained. If the purpose is to calm himself down it works as he then smiles, dismisses Tsukishima’s words as Tsurumi using stupid cliches and shoots in Tsukishima’s direction although this is one of the rare times in which Ogata completely misses his target.
So to chap 80 we go.
Tumblr media
The situation is clearly unpleasant. Although Ogata survives he claims to have no other choice but to bring Sugimoto’s group along and that’s not even the worst part. He knows Edogai died and Tsukishima might be bringing some fake skins to Tsurumi as they speak. One might need some self confort in such a situation... and if it helps fixing his hair which is likely a mess after his experience in the mine, well, that’s a plus.
And now chap 83.
Tumblr media
The image in its own doesn’t tell us much.
For the context Ogata was about to shoot at the woodcooks when Asirpa stopped him saying even if he were to manage to hit 1 the others would fly away and anyway it’s hard to hit them with the rounds Ogata uses, hence they should use an Ainu method to get them.
Tumblr media
While Sugimoto is amused by Asirpa’s lack of faith in Ogata’s ability, it makes sense Ogata wouldn’t be pleased. Even the sound he makes seems to point at it.
There’s another scene in chap 83 though where he pets himself.
Tumblr media
This time is after he got praised for getting three of them. It’s hard to think at discomfort, unless Ogata is so not used to praises they too make him nervous, so he needed it to later manage to assume a confident pose. Honestly I would say it’s more a self praising move but it’s hard to read Ogata.
Fast forward to chap 88.
Tumblr media
Same as the above this is hard to read. Is he praising himself for guessing right or having the confirmation they’re in the hideout of some Yakuza pretending to be Ainu makes their situation worrysome?
At the list I’ll include a cut scene in chap 101.
Tumblr media
In the volume version this scene isn’t present, but in the magazine version Ogata grooms his hair when he realizes they’re encircled by bears, a definitively worrying situation.
Then we move to chap 108.
Tumblr media
It’s another scene that’s not clear. Is he proud of himself because he figured out why Sugimoto is searching the gold or the thing makes him uncomfortable because he has realized Asirpa has a crush on him and the whole situation reminded him of his own mother?
And then we’ve chap 109.
Tumblr media
Is he proud because he was the first to find him? Or it’s just the situation is troublesome because Ogata would still be of the idea of killing Tanigaki for what happened to Tamai and Co (which he will mention later on to Asirpa and Sugimoto), but killing him would be troublesome because Tanigaki is friend with Asirpa and Sugimoto, whcih are part of the group Ogata is in currently.
And then we get the infamous chap 113.
Tumblr media
Ogata is teaching Asirpa why Anehata just wouldn’t think to consequences before violating animals. While the scene seems funny, his father was also one of the men who didn’t think to consequences before having sex with Ogata’s mother.
On another side I’ve been told Ogata’s words are losely translated as the sentence was pretty unclear in Japanese so...
‘Otoko tte no wa dasu mon dasu to sōnan no yo’
男ってのは出すもん出すとそうなんのよ
“That’s how a man is when he put it out."
And then we’ve chap 128.
Tumblr media
Again Ogata’s parentage is used against him, as Hijikata says due to it is hard to think Ogata might be in this for some gold. And again it makes sense the situation makes him uncomfortable.
So we move to the infamous chap 137.
Tumblr media
Is he praising himself because he got Wilk and Sugimoto? Or is he troubled because, although he got Sugimoto, he knows the bullet might not be fatal which is why he has to remain there and try to shoot Sugimoto some more?
To Karafuto we go and to chap 159.
Tumblr media
And here it’s pretty clear Ogata is uncomfortable at the idea of having to go and apologize.
Chap 170 then.
Tumblr media
We’ve Ogata grooming his hat... because he got praised by Asirpa. Again if he’s uncomfortable (he’s not even meeting her gaze) or if he’s praising himself for his own shoot is up to speculation.
And then chap 180.
Tumblr media
More hat grooming. It was interpreted as a stab at Kiro, who also had to move from Russia because chased... but he’s not even looking at him and Ogata was the one sure Tsurumi would chase him so it might be just a jab at himself.
Hard to say.
We continue with chap 187.
Tumblr media
And this time Ogata don’t content himself with hat grooming, he moved his hat away that’s much that’s needed to confort himself after Asirpa (legittimately I might add) told him to stay away and that he is untrustworthy.
A big fast forward to chap 222.
Tumblr media
And again Ogata is in a clearly discomforting situation as he has to explain Abashiri keeping hidden the role he had in it considering he’s a horrible liar.
And finally chap 257.
Tumblr media
Ogata crossed paths with Kikuta but Kikuta let him go, pretending he never saw him. Either something happened between the two, something we weren’t shown, or still this meeting managed to make him uncomfortable, a clear hint they aren’t on the same side, even if they aren’t at war with each other.
And that’s all, or better, those are all the scenes in which we can be confident Ogata is grooming himself.
There are then some unclear scenes.
Chap 5 for example.
Tumblr media
It might be a ‘proto grooming’ scene. Ogata is clearly not petting himself, he’s scratching the back of his head, which usually is done to imply the character is puzzled but the scene might have inspired Noda into giving him the habit to groom himself.
Then chap 115.
Tumblr media
Some think this is a grooming scene but as Ogata says his head is spinning it makes sense he would touch it (it’s a pretty standard movement), especially since his hand isn’t in the usual grooming position. On the other side having your head spin is clearly uncomfortable so a grooming scene would make sense too but really, I think he’s only touching his spinning head.
And lastly chap 159.
Tumblr media
It could be a grooming scene... but it could also be Ogata pulling down his hood as first he had it raised and then he had it lowered.
Hard to say anyway, if it’s a grooming scene it would again fit in the list of scenes of Ogata doing it after hitting something.
And that’s the end.
As you can notice there isn’t a single grooming scene placed prior to Ogata’s hair growing.
Some assumed he groomed himself when he met his father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Truth is it’s hard to say as it can be he was merely covering his eyes, as when Ogata grooms himself, Noda usually draw his hand in a higher position and with the fingers touching each other.
It’s hard to say but it’s still interesting.
Of course his possible Ogata merely started doing so because his fur... ehm... I mean hair, got longer... I mean... the short hair he had previously might not have been the most pleasant thing to pet... but maybe there was a starting factor. I don’t know, we’ll see.
Well, and that’s all for GK resident kitty. We’ll see if the future will gift us with more grooming moments.

In the seer au, with Jaypaw going to Windclan and working with Leafpool, would that lead to trouble later on if cats find out about him being Leaf/Crow's kit? Because seers aren't supposed to be in their families clan?
i don't want to say too much about it, lest i show my cards for the next few fics, but uh. okay i'm going to talk about the end of "it's been promised to another" which, if you're not up to date with stoalg, well (a) spoilers but (b) the end of ibpta has discussion both of death/exile and abortion.
anyway so saying the problem here is seers aren't supposed to be in their family's clan is like saying, "yellowstone just erupted, and also there's a power outage."
i mean yeah those two things Sure Are problems, but one of them makes the other basically irrelevant.
as far as the cats are concerned, jaypaw isn't related to crowfeather and leafpool. (short of like. he couldn't have kits with a half sibling that would be Bad.) but squilf adopted leafpool's kits, leafpool's kinship ties are broken, that makes them squilf's kits.
so Even If there wasn't a bigger problem, the being leaf's kit thing wouldn't be an issue.
she didn't even nurse them for longer than like. a quarter moon?
anyway. crowfeather is definitely irrelevant here. he didn't raise them in the Slightest, he's not their dad.
(they have no father, they have two moms. squilf and mothwing. mothwing isn't supposed to be a parent but uh. well. she Loves Them a Lot a Lot a Lot.)
but yeah, nominally at least, the cats wouldn't hold jaypaw's bio parentage against him in any way.
being in windclan is definitely highly sus for him, because they take this stuff The Most seriously, but they also. so as a reminder, the status at the end of iaffl is
mothwing and flamepaw in thunderclan
spottedleaf and kestrelpaw in riverclan
cinderpelt and willowpaw in shadowclan
leafpool and jaypaw in windclan
(some of them may have their full names but i'm being quick.)
and so there's really no possible solution to the problem? like. okay, so...jaypaw and willowpaw are a Potential swap, since both flamepaw and kestrelpaw results in someone returning to their birth clan, but shadowclan wouldn't want to give her up because she knows all the Clan Specific Deal. (jaypaw would know stuff for windclan, but significantly less.)
anyway, you see the difference between ideals and politics here. ideally there wouldn't be a problem, but the clans would not like it.
but of course! leafpool is a seer. and so figuring out What to Do about Her is way much very much the bigger problem.
at the end of ibpta, she basically has three choices: die, be exiled, or abort her kits. she chooses option four: try to avoid her other choices.
like, the clans are uh, very much Not Pro Choice. okay general reminder: my warriors worldbuilding does not reflect my views about the world. i am not trying to build a good world, i am trying to build an interesting one.
anyway.
when your infant mortality rate is ca. 50%, every kit's life is precious. killing kits (including unborn ones) is a crime punishable by Instant Death.
leafpool is a seer so who fucking knows what would happen, because harming a seer is punishable by anything from a Big Time Long Term punishment to Exile to Death. highly dependent on the level of harm (accident, accident but serious, any level of intentional harm), but like. cats know who the seers are. it's important to know before you bring an apprentice to battle.
god it's been Ages since i rambled about stolag's world building. mothwing's piece is like. the biggest chance to expand on that and it's through such a low-battle time it doesn't come up. why must i be like this.
so yeah so! who knows what would happen bc by that logic you get: leafpool kills kits → leafpool must be killed → leafpool either has to kill herself or whoever kills her must be killed
(you might be saying, "wouldn't a murderer for punishment purposes get immunity?" to which i say, "this is not that type of world. the rules about seers trump every other rule. even where it doesn't make sense.")
anyway, obviously that's not super relevant because that doesn't happen.
if leafpool was discovered when she was pregnant or nursing, the kits would have been given to a windclan queen. they may or may not be told about their birth, but the other clans certainly wouldn't.
leafpool would be exiled or killed. it's not super clear what would happen, but either way, she would lose everything.
kestrelpaw is the oldest apprentice, i believe, but willowpaw would be chosen for obvious reasons. windclan is probably best equipt to deal with this Particular situation, because windclan elders share the burden of knowing the whole hymn. so willowpaw would have people to teach her everything she needs to know.
willowpaw would receive her full name after learning the full hymn, and windclan would have to trust that the stars would guide her to oversee the correct rites. (singing days, fasts, and approving names of kits.)
(and who would name her? she would be instructed to pray on it and starclan would give her a name. not sure what i would name her. windclan doesn't have any sense of passing names on, so while if this were in thunderclan or shadowclan she would be named willowface, willowbark, or willowleaf with some level of certainity, there's no such convention.
i might name her willowshine or willowlight.
which might give away that her name isn't necessarily going to be willowshine in stolag.
but i digress.)
anyway! that makes willow the youngest medicine cat, and cinderpelt the oldest (without an apprentice). so shadowclan jaypaw instead.
anyway! yeah the fact that she's his mother is certainly a problem, but it's almost insignificant to the greater problem that a seer had kits.
a scuffed knee compared to a broken femur, if you will.
so yeah, there'd definitely be a problem, it just wouldn't have much to do with the family relationship. if, say, he was a squirrelcrow kit, windclan would be a-okay with him staying, because crowfeather isn't his father in any meaningful sense.
hope that makes sense! sorry i started rambling about politics again.

cloudtail’s daughter: hollyleaf
alright, continuing my long running deluge of words, we move on to hollyleaf.
ah, hollyleaf. canon did you dirty. luckily, given your lifespan, i can do whatever i want with you. as long as you end up in starclan. also i haven't read squirrelflight's hope so i don't know the deal with that.
right. but as far as i'm concerned, i get to do whatever i want to do with her, and that means i'm...less making tweaks to her character and more giving us more of her, and smoothing out her character arc, because it's all a mess, you don't need me to tell you that.
alright, as per usual, warnings/disclaimers/we: this is for my cloudtail's daughter au. this goes pretty off the rails from canon, so i suspect it'll be coherent, but i still think either the main au explanation or the dovewing post is a better place to start.
2.5k words, 10min read. the least organized of all of these (no section headers).
right so i'm not really sure where to begin with hollyleaf, but i think the best place is the earliest one yet: roughly the fire scene. because hollyleaf is breaking one of my cardinal rules: don't mess with what came before, and so it's best we start there, i think.
right, so hollyleaf, as we know, takes the news about her parentage badly. and i'm not taking that away, mostly, but she doesn't devolve quite so quickly. because i just. don't like it.
hollyleaf is smart, she's loyal, it's a reasonable decision for her to fall of the rails as such, but i just really don't like it. i want hollyleaf to fall apart and come back together. i want her to have to deal with the consequences of her actions. and in this essay i will.. no but i'm getting ahead of myself, we'll do all that. first things first, though, hollyleaf keeps herself together, until she realizes ashfur isn't going to let this stay secret.
so she kills him.
and the truth comes out pretty fast. like no one is 100% sure but everybody knows.
and that? that is what really cracks hollyleaf.
right so remember in my worldbuilding post when i said something-something-i-don't-care-about-hollyleaf's-story? yeah turns out that was a fucking lie.
because i realized that i couldn't really make this work unless i knew why hollyleaf came back because well it's kind of a big deal. so i had to figure it out, and i was hyper proud of myself for realizing she could save dovepaw from the tunnels, and then i was like "well people have a lot of questions for her," to the point where one of the chapters in fading echoes is titled "questions" and it's just straight up people questioning what happened to her.
so. she still goes into the tunnels. and she meets fallen leaves. and they hit it off, probably a little faster. (tbh i'm still not interested in writing this, just what happens).
and she chills walright, continuing my long running deluge of words, we move on to hollyleaf.
ah, hollyleaf. canon did you dirty. luckily, given your lifespan, i can do whatever i want with you. as long as you end up in starclan. also i haven't read squirrelflight's hope so i don't know the deal with that.

so you know everything is fine until a thunderclan apprentice stumbles into the tunnels, hurt and scared, unable to protect herself.
hollyleaf and fallen leaves protect dovepaw, a flood happens, i haven't worked out the details and i'm fairly tired ATM, so please forgive my handwaving.
so yeah, dovepaw is with them for three days.
hollyleaf basically gets caught by cinderheart when they're going back, so she's like "well guess now i gotta see my family" and cinderheart is like "yeah u idiot we all miss u n i love u but i am dating ur brother now" and hollyleaf is like "fair enough i have a ghost boyfriend" and they're all good
everyone has a hell of a lot of questions for hollyleaf. i have a whole chapter dedicated to it. here are some of them, and some of the answers.
brambleclaw: why didn't you tell me? (no, he hasn't learned from squirrelflight how unhelpful this question is) hollyleaf: because you're the deputy and there's no guarantee you wouldn't out me, considering you were still disowning me
dovepaw: yo so there was another cat with you wasn't there? hollyleaf: ohhh yeah i have a ghost boyfriend sorry forgot to tell you that
squirrelflight: do you still hate me? hollyleaf: mom i'm so sorry i love you so much
and then hollyleaf is home. i mean jayfeather won't talk to her but that's a few books from now, when they have ghost partners, okay?
but before that, she has to go do beavers, and she never gets a real proper chance to make up with everyone
(don't worry, she'll get the chance before she dies.)
right so dovepaw has her beaver stuff and hollyleaf tags along because Nine Is A Holy Number
really, i just need a narrator on the beaver quest, and for reasons i've mentioned but will explain in a moment, it can't be cinderheart.
so i have this symbolism going where dove/ivy start and end the series (what, i'm big on structural symbolism. i put thought into everything. especially since i'm limited in these books with what/how i accomplish, so the things that are entirely mine, like who narrates what, is carefully thought out). anyway that's because they have turning points in their relationship in the first and last book. they fall apart at the midpoint of growing shadows, and they aren't fully repaired ever, but they get closest at about the midpoint of the last hope. that's a symbolic thing, that they've come back to where they've started, but not quite. can't go back, even if you regret.
regret is a big theme in this series. ivy and dove are a pair in part because they're bound by all of these regrets that keeps stacking up.
now, the natural choice for a narrator of the beavers would be cinderheart. she's a substitude lionblaze as far as this book is concerned. however, cinderheart needs to be the main narrator when she takes dovepaw to the tribe. she just does. so we could do two cinderheart books in a row, but then where do we put lionblaze? he's not really a major character in the second arc, he basically does nothing. i guess we could have him deal with sol, but cinderheart's arc is supposed to be she learns how to solve problems in different ways, and that's why she's able to tackle sol. so, like, fine, what if we make cinderheart and lionblaze arc one narrators, and have sol be a background thing? i mean, if i did it for the dark forest, i could definitely do it for this.
so that does create one problem: regret doesn't bind cinderheart to lionblaze. regret is a theme through cinderpelt and cinderheart. lionblaze is a sexy lamp. he doesn't mean anything, he's just a love interest to challenge cinderheart. so. it feels bad to me to artifiically pair them together and imply they have a dynamic like that.
and the larger problem is what it does to hollyleaf and jayfeather.
see, hollyleaf and jayfeather have this aborted forgiveness arc, that plagues jayfeather. i'm going to write a jayfeather super edition so help me god, but that's for another time. anyway, hollyleaf is trying to make up with everyone, but jayfeather won't let her.
and he's never going to get the chance to make amends, because she dies in the last book.
but anyway, if we make hollyleaf and jayfeather the exclusive narrators of books 4 and 5, we imply their character arc happens. there. and that's...not what happens.
it's aborted. they're decoupled, desynched. they have a moment of synchrony, where they have this shared experience, but it's not enough. hollyleaf is in jayfeather's past, and he's tryign so hard to move forward. it's all ~very symbolic.~
right. back to the present day, hollyleaf has to go to do the beavers mostly because i said so, but also because i'm cautious about drawing false parallels. i think it was cinderheart's essay where i said this is the only part of it i have control over (was it earlier in this essay i've worked on this for like 3 days) and so i want to do it right. but also, she's going to be a good narrator, becuase she's covering a lot of ground, and i think hollyleaf is pretty interesting.
so hollyleaf, my dear, terrified of breaking the code, hollyleaf, watches dovepaw and tigerheart get...close.
and this is. well, hollyleaf has seen what happened when people date illegal options. and it's not good.
so she spends most of the book just kinda panicking, waiting for the moment this goes south.
beavers happen, it's the same as the books, i'm super uninterested in that plotline to the point of memery. hollyleaf is fine, everything is fine, dovepaw is sad now because cats died, everything is fine.
so i mentioned at some point or the other that dovepaw begins sleeping on top of tigerheart. dovepaw, at this point, is fully grown, but she's on the smaller side. she's a standard to small cat. tigerheart is a tigerstar clone, and tigerstar has some maine coon genes or something because he's massive. so uhh you know she probably could literally sleep on top of him but it's not quite that, it's more she's curled up and he's kind of curled up around her, but not as a concious thing. it's similar to when u accidentally wake up cuddling someone bc u shared a bed and that's that. but less awkward.
anyway hollyleaf is like "cinderheart cinderheart we should do something this is a problem," but if u remember from cinderheart, cinderheart is also being nagged by cinderpelt about this.
so cinderheart doesn't want to hear it and hollyleaf is pretty much "whelp guess i'll just die" and by die i mean quietly glare at tigerheart and shower dovepaw in love and affection.
anyway yeah after that hollyleaf does nothing for like two books.
or one book? i guess beavers is book two anyway look she misses her gf but cinderheart is in the mountains and then she's like "oh wait i have a ghost bf i should talk to"
so hollyleaf spends more and more time in the tunnels. this book actually takes place at about the same time as distant whispers. there's not 100% overlap, but it's close.
right so jayfeather (i swear i wrote dovefeather this is the problem with having 3 linked aus god) follows hollyleaf into the tunnels and he has his whole time travel sequence/half of it i still haven't decided what i'm doing with it.
and hollyleaf and fallen leaves have good ole interpersonal drama, where they're trying to be a thing but hollyleaf belongs in thunderclan and yes, this means that hollyleaf is the character who gets the singular book, because jayfeather is extremely isolated from the main plot. in fact, the only reason i keep the time travel plot is because canon. not that i don't like that it exists but for it to have been executed well it needs to be less disjoint. which is why i think i'm breaking A Rule so i can put it all in oots so it's more logical. but that's a different rant.
anyway, there's a quasi-religious conflict where hollyleaf is like "just go to starclan" and fallen leaves is like "my whole problem is how i can't do that"
uh yeah idrk exactly what happens it is once again 3am so uhhh yeah ghost cats she considers leaving thunderclan bc jayfeather won't talk to her lionblaze is away she's still mad at leafpool and squilf is in an abusive relationship and hollyleaf is still pretty young, y'know? that's a lot.
firestar is like "grand daughter i love you dearly but can u maybe uh can u maybe make up your god damn mind"
anyway so hollyleaf and fallen leaves have a bit of a fight, he's like, "i'm keeping u back," she's like "ur not" but she knows he is, etc etc it's very sad and dramatic
so they kind of break up? it's a lil complicated but basically they're not talking to each other for a while, they're on the cat equivalent of "taking a break" ig
alright, so then book 5 happens, and it's jayfeather and cinderheart prepping for the great battle. idk. hollyleaf chills w lionblaze in BGCH and makes friends with ivypool. it's chill. i mean, it's not, but it is.
book six, hollyleaf is the only one to stay in thunderclan. she's kinda j chilling til the battle. and then. and then. oh this is the good part.
she sacrifices her self for ivypool.
yeah. okay, this is super disjoint, so i'm going with it. hollyleaf? done.

---
stormfrost’s parents were mothmask of shadowclan and smokestream of riverclan. his mother snuck away from camp to give birth in secret with her mate at her side, but the birth was difficult and one of the kits did not survive. it was decided between the grieving parents that one kit would go to riverclan and the other would go to shadowclan, so smokestream brought the newborn stormkit back to riverclan, pretending he’d found an abandoned rogue kit at the border. silversplash, a riverclan queen, had already lost one of her kits, so she adopted the poor “orphan” and raised him alongside her kits. smokestream was also a good father figure for stormkit, but most assumed it was because he was the one who “found” stormkit. his adopted siblings were snowkit and lilykit.
stormkit also grew close with duskkit, who was around two moons older. silversplash offered to tend to him because otterstep, duskkit’s mother, had cheated on his father with a thunderclan cat and had her paws full with raising three newborns. stormkit considered duskkit a brother, but when duskpaw was apprenticed, it became clear how much he resented his half-siblings and half-clan cats as a whole.
stormkit knew he wanted to be a medicine cat from the moment he first stepped in the medicine den, and so he was apprenticed to apollo, a former loner whose talent in healing was so great that riverclan not only allowed him to join, but also allowed him to keep his name and mate (another former loner he’d traveled with named pepper, later peppertail). stormpaw was thrilled by the opportunity, but the shadow of duskpaw’s growing hatred loomed. it didn’t help that his mentor was his furious father troutpelt, who nurtured duskpaw’s resentment into a full-blown hatred for half-clan cats. despite this hatred, duskpaw, snowpaw, stormpaw, and lilypaw still remained close, although the latter three were uncomfortable with duskpaw’s prejudice.
stormpaw didn’t receive his full name until some time after his brothers’ warrior ceremonies. in that time, duskdapple became the youngest deputy in the clans after grayfern passed, and smokestream fell ill with an incurable illness. on his deathbed, smokestream told stormpaw the truth: that he was his father by blood, and his mother and sister were in shadowclan. stormpaw blamed himself for his father’s death and withdrew into himself. apollo named him stormfrost for his cold, guarded demeanor.
even after the truth about stormpaw’s parentage was revealed to him by smokestream, duskdapple made it clear that the three were “good” halfclan cats and thus an exception to his disdain. eventually duskstar became leader and appointed snowfeather as deputy. unbeknownst to stormfrost, duskstar secretly allied with the thunderclan leader foxstar to drive out half-clan cats and their parents. silversplash, mothmask, and tawnyclaw had all vanished without a trace. stormfrost was most worried about silversplash, but he couldn’t help but fear for his estranged biological family as well.
starclan sent snowfeather and stormfrost, along with cats from the other four clans, on a journey to retrieve their lost clanmates. starclan specifically chose stormfrost because they knew he would be able to heal the exiles, even if he didn’t know it himself. he was prickly at best with everyone but especially found lightningclaw of skyclan insufferable. the two bickered and bitched the entire mission, but the more they talked, the more they realized how much they understood each other. by the time they returned home, they were close friends, and perhaps even something more.
unfortunately for lightningclaw, stormfrost was also in love with willowleaf, the young and pretty medicine cat from skyclan. sadly she didn’t return his feelings and never even knew how hard young stormfrost was crushing. one day, stormfrost offered her help with herb-gathering and planned to use their alone time to confess; however, this plan went horribly wrong. they had accidentally gotten too close to a fox den, and poor willowleaf was caught in its jaws. she yowled for stormfrost to run, and in his panic he obeyed, running as fast as he could back to the skyclan camp. by the time he returned with a patrol of warriors, it was too late. willowleaf was dead, and skyclan had no medicine cat.
stricken with grief, guilt, and shame, stormfrost felt more lost than he ever had. duskstar had shunned him and snowfeather and hinted that he planned to “take care” of the two. the black and white tom could take no more of this, resolving to do the only thing he believed he could to make it up to willowleaf. one quiet night, he informed snowfeather that he was leaving to join skyclan and he wasn’t coming back. snowfeather pleaded with him not to go, but stormfrost hardened himself and turned away, snapping at his brother to “open your eyes before you let duskstar destroy riverclan.”
jaystar of skyclan was unsure what to do when the riverclan medicine cat showed up again in her camp so soon after willowleaf’s death, and there was considerable debate in the clan. among the loudest of voices in support of stormfrost was lightningclaw, the newly appointed clan deputy, and so it was decided that stormfrost would be allowed to join skyclan permanently and take willowleaf’s place. Warriors Rewrite Pt 9: Power of the Stars
Quick notes: this part is a mashup of The Power of Three and Omen of the Stars since both on their own get boring with 6 books each. The Four main cats represent the wise monkeys: Hear No Evil (Dove), Speak No Evil (Holly), See No Evil (Jay), and Do No Evil (Lion). Also, this part is the last true installment to my series of rewrite posts. Maybe I will make another if I read A Vison of Shadows, buut I intend for the end of this arc to be the end of the series (as I'd thought it'd be when the canon books originally came out). I might also post about ideas for Super Editions in my rewrite, but that's about it for this series. I hope you've all enjoyed my ideas, and will like these ones as well!
The first half of the arc follows The Three. They are the children of Tawnypelt and Squirrelflight. Or so they think
In reality, The Three are not siblings, but cousins. Squirrelflight is the biological mother of Hollykit, who's sired by her mate Crowfeather. Crowfeather is also Tawnypelt's mate; the three are in a secret poly relationship. Hollykit is mostly black, but has small ginger spots on her face that look like berries, and a fluffy red tail which is oddly similar to Redtail's despite not having any biological relation to him, also her eyes are green.
Jaykit is actually the love child of Emberpath and Primrosetail. He is a blue-gray tabby with fur a very similar shade to Bluestar's. He has blue eyes like in canon with dilated pupils since he is blind.
Lionkit is the son of Leafpool and Rowanclaw, conceived while they were away from the clans. Lionkit is a large broad golden tom with amber eyes; his resemblance is very close to his namesake Lionheart
Squirrelflight, Primrosetail, and Leafpool's kittings all pretty much happened around the same time. Squirrelflight and Leafpool had hid in the forest together to give birth, while Primrosetail ended up having her kit on the Gathering Island-where she and Emberpath would meet in secret. Sensing that his sisters have given birth, Emberpath brings his little family to them so they could all be together. While staying in the hollow tree, during a nap, Leafpool receives the "kin of your kin" prophecy. When she wakes, she tells her siblings. She insists the kits be raised together so that the prophecy can be better fulfilled, and so their secret relationships wouldn't be revealed. They all agree to allow Squirrelflight to raise Lionkit and Jaykit, since no cat will question their origins due to the clan believing she was impregnated by an unconnected, unknown donor.
When The Three are apprenticed, things go a bit different than they do in canon. Lionpaw becomes the medicine cat apprentice, and Jaypaw trains as a warrior under Brightheart. Although, Starclan still tries to convince Jaypaw to be a medicine cat instead.
The toms' powers stay the same, and Hollypaw gets a power too. These powers, however, come with down sides. Jaypaw can walk in other's dreams, memories, and converse with Starclan/the Dark forest, but can never have his own normal dreams. Lionpaw is unable to be harmed in battle, but gets tired easily when attacked. And Hollypaw has the power of truth; cats can't lie to her and are more likely to divulge secrets to her. However a cat can tell her something that's actually a lie if they believe its the truth
In this rewrite, Hollypaw is the one who discovers the tunnels. Here she starts meeting up with Breezepaw, who also discovered the tunnels through Windclan territory. No, they don't have any romantic feelings for each other like their counterparts Lion/Heather do in canon, because that would be extremely gross
Breezepaw is still Crowfeather and Nightcloud's son, but things go a bit differently between them. Nightcloud is a lesbian and mates with Sorreltail. The couple really wanted to have kits, so Crowfeather volunteers to sire a litter for them, with Squirrelflight and Tawnypelt's blessing. Nightcloud lets it slip that Crowfeather is his biological father, and Breezepaw, despite having two loving mothers, feels like he should have a bond with Crowfeather too. But Crowfeather doesn't feel a connection to Breezepaw. Breezepaw's sense of entitlement is what fuels his rage and hatred for the older tom, and causes him to become a secondary villain in this series
As warriors, The Three are named Jaystrike, Lionflower (after Goldenflower and because he's a sweetheart in this rewrite), and Hollysong
Despite the strength of his powers, Lionflower uses his abilities for good. He charges into battles head on to heal the injured, even if enemy warriors try to attack him. Since he can't get hurt, he can be right on the frontlines
Jaystrike trains in the Dark Forest with Tigerstar and Mothwing as an apprentice. He wants to make up for his blindness, and so he trusts the dead leader to teach to him be stronger. He also trains there to spite Starclan, since they tried to tell him he couldn't be a warrior, he had to be a medicine cat. But one day, Jaypaw somehow manages to pull his mamma Tawnypelt into his dream with him. She sees what her son is up to and warns him of her kin's evil. She scares him pretty good; this ends up being the last time Jaypaw visits the Place Of No Stars. But because of Tigerstar's teachings, the blind warrior receives the name Jaystrike for being fierce in battle
Hawkfrost in this arc, like in the last one, is Ashfur's equivalent. He traps The Three in a fire in an attempt to kill them to hurt Squirrelflight. This is where Squirrelflight's forced to admit The Three are not her kits. When they all escape, however, she gathers them, Emberpath, and Leafpool together so the triplets can fully explain what their situation was.
Within the next day or so Hawkfrost approaches The Three, threatening to reveal the secrets of their parentage at the upcoming gathering. Jaystrike jumps into the tom's memories to see that he'd been spying on the Fire Triplets' meeting.
The next day Hawkfrost is found dead. After some investigation by Hollysong, it turns out Lionflower is the murderer. Upon his siblings' discovery of this heinous crime, he runs away into the tunnels. His adopted littermates assume he is dead, and wonder who the third cat in the prophecy will be now
The last three books of the arc follow Dovepaw and Ivypaw. They are Cloudtail and Brightheart's kits, birthed by Cloudtail this time, and sired by a random kittypet. Dovepaw is a fluffy, mostly white dilute calico with folded ears and hazel eyes. Ivypaw is a mostly white and gray dilute tabby calico with a gray tail and blue eyes; surprisingly she shares a bit of resemblance to Whitestorm.
Dovepaw is chosen to be the new medicine cat apprentice. It's obvious early on that she is the new third cat in the prophecy as well, made clear by Starclan, and discovered by Jaystrike after walking in her dreams. Dovepaw's powers are the same as in canon; she can hear and see things that are far away. The downside is she has trouble with memory. As a full medicine cat her name becomes Dovelight
Dovepaw is nervous about being a prophesied cat and tries to confide in her sister about this, telling her all the secrets shared by Hollysong and Jaystrike.
Ivypaw is jealous of her sister being part of The Three though, and turns to the Dark Forest to grow strong and to feel important. She divulges the secrets entrusted to her by Dovepaw to Mothwing. Soon though, Jaystrike finds out about this-via walking in the molly's dreams-and holds an intervention with the help of Tawnypelt. Ivypaw, now a warrior called Ivyshade, works as a double agent
In the second half of the second to last book, Lionflower returns from the tunnels just as The Three receive news of there being a fourth cat destined to hold the power of the stars in their paws. Reunited, the four cats along with Ivyshade devise a plan on how to fight against the Dark Forest
Also, the Dark Forest has a powerful living ally. Sol is conspiring with the Place Of No Stars, and figures out a way to summon the evil spirits to fight the living world. It can only happen on the night of the lunar eclipse, when Starclan has no power. After trying to convince the clans to stop believing in their ancestors, Sol sees this as the only way to get them to give up their faith
Before the battle, at the beginning of the last book, Jaystrike, Hollysong, Lionflower, and Dovelight go missing. Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Emberpath, Cloudtail, and Brightheart are incredibly worried about them as the time for the Great Battle draws nearer. But Ivyshade knows the truth and assures her kin that this is all a part of The Four's plan.
When the battle takes place, Skyclan arrives to help aid in the fight, rather than Starclan jumping in. They are led to the lake territories by The Four. The group found the distant clan by using their combined powers, and by recalling the stories told to them by Firestar. Emberstar leads the charge, joining her brother to fight Tigerstar and Sol. With the fifth clan joining them, the living clans are able to face off against the Dark Forest and win.
Emberstar and Firestar lose their last lives together at the end of the Great Battle. Skyclan decides to stay by the lake when all is said and done. The Four keep their powers, and decide to put them to better use by taking over for their parents as mediators in the other clans. Dovelight is the exception; she joins Skyclan to be both their medicine cat and mediator, and Ivyshade takes over for Squirrelflight as Thunderclan's mediator

Winifred (Winnie) Zhao → Michaela Conlin  → Witch
→ Basic Information
Age: 510
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Pansexual
Powers: Dream Manipulation
Birthday: June 1st
Zodiac Sign: Gemini
Religion: Taoism
Mark: Lee/Ee
Generation: 2nd generation
→ Her Personality
Winnie never tries to be anything other than who she is and she has a deep respect for people who do the same. She’s the kind of person that will give you advice you didn’t ask for but more often than not you’ll be glad she did. You could say she is a truly open book when it comes to herself but when it comes to other people's secrets she’s more like a bank vault. Her candour can surprise people sometimes, which secretly she kind of likes, as she will tell you most anything about herself if asked.
She doesn’t like stress or pressure, going out of her way to build a life for herself that will contain as little of either as she can manage. Any amount of stress brings out the insomnia she is prone to, and she won’t thank you if you’re the cause of it. She’s very much a people person though, enjoying chatting with people about their lives and their dreams for the future. With her power though she is very respectful of boundaries, not wishing to use it on people without their permission.
→ Her Personal Facts
Occupation: Overnight Caregiver (Taker of Nightmares) and Maker of a holistic sleep products line available at Wondering Worlds of Magic
Scars: None
Tattoos: Delicate tattoo of the moon phases on her left side rib cage
Two Likes: Stargazing and Fruit Tea
Two Dislikes: Television and Pineapple
Two Fears: Being trapped in a dream and Prolonged, Extreme Insomnia
Two Hobbies: Tarot and Painting
Three Positive Traits: Honest, Insightful and Liberal
Three Negative Traits: Changeable, Opinionated and Shameless
→ Her Connections
Parent Names:
Caihong Zhao (Mother): She was not a cruel woman but she was never a close to Winnie as she was with her other children. Winnie could never understand this until she learnt the truth about her father. Since then their relationship has improved but they’re still not close.
Luca Tovani (Father/deceased): She only met her father in what were to be the later years of his life as he’d had no idea she existed till she tracked him down. They had a few years together before he was tragically killed and Winnie enjoyed getting to know him.
Guozhi Zhao (Step-father/deceased): Through her early years she believed that he was her actual father. He was a kind man and funny man. He adored Winnie and she adored him in return.
Sibling Names:
Jianyu Zhao (Brother): Out of all her family, he is the one she is closest to now. Jianyu takes after his father in his kindness and humour, and even after the truth was ousted about Winnie’s real father he still treated her the same. To this day he is the most understanding of her.
Kang Zhao (Brother): Kang was always a bit of a bully and Winnie always detested him for that. He’s mellowed as he’s gotten older but he treats her as below him now he knows about her father.
Li Na Zhao (Sister): When they were little Winnie and Li Na were inseparable, Winnie often protecting her from Kang. However the two have barely spoken in the centuries since Winnie’s true parentage came to light. It still breaks Winnie’s heart that her sister reacted like she did.
Children Names:
None
Romantic Connections:
Kady Gaines (Ex-girlfriend): The combination of Kady and Winnie’s personalities lead to a very passionate relationship but in the end neither of them were ready or willing to settle down. Both ran from the idea of anything serious to the point they avoided each other when then broke up. That was a long time ago though and they have found enough time has passed for them to start to be friends again.
Farrokh Alvi (Old Friend): Farrokh and Winnie have been friends for a very long time. There’s always been the hint of something between them but neither has ever taken it further than the odd bit of flirting or a kiss under the mistletoe.
Platonic Connections:
Catherine Barr (Friendly): The two women met at a women's rights protest. Winnie had just been passing by and stopped to see what was going on. Cat was the person she asked. Since then they’ve shared the occasional cup of coffee when they’ve bumped into each other.
Ronan Cleirigh (Former Mentor): Winnie enjoyed her time mentoring with Ronan. He was a great mentor in her eyes, who helped her hugely with her powers. She only left so she could study under a mentor who would help her learn more about the craft of potions.
Minsky Edison (Former Mentor): With his specialty for mentoring mental powers Minsky was the perfect fit for Winnie’s final years of training. He helped her reach the master levels of her abilities. Whilst he was a strict teacher she swears she wouldn’t be the witch she was today without him.
Kenneth ‘Ken’ McStevens (New Acquaintance): Winnie found out pretty soon after meeting him that he is Benevorous but she doesn’t care. She thinks he’s got a fun soul and enjoys being round him.
Chiara Ricci (Friend): They met at a spiritual shop when Chiara was shopping for a Tarot deck. Winnie offered to pick and buy one for her as it’s always better when they’re gifted to you. They’ve been friends ever since.
Lyra Cleirigh (Friend): Winnie met Lyra whilst she was mentoring with Ronan. They bonded right away over their shared interest in art and their friendship grew from there.
Talia Cleirigh (Good Friend): Winnie was introduced to Talia by Ronan as they share the same ability. It was the first time Winnie had met anyone like her and it felt so good to be able have someone who fully understood what it was like.
Kaylor Genesis (Friend): Kaylor is another friend that Winnie made thanks to having Ronan as a mentor. They’d see each other often during those days and their friendship formed naturally and easily.
Harry Reeves (Client): Harry has recently started to come to Winnie for help with his insomnia.
Briar Larson(Friendly): Winnie has sold a few of her art pieces through Briar in the past. She enjoys talking to her about art and thinks they could become friends.
Jia Hu Cleirigh (Friend): At first Winnie and Jia bonded over their native language but a friendship quickly grew from it and has continued to flourish since.
Hostile Connections:
Roman Cleirigh (Distrusts): One of the ghosts attached to Roman, Justin, possessed her. It wasn’t a pleasant experience and Winnie is still upset that Roman didn’t warn her it could happen.
Pets:
Gabriel: a black void of a cat that loves cuddles and will sit on the empty chair at the dinner table when Winnie eats.
→ History Winifred was born with the name Genji in Zhujiajiao, a water town near Shanghai. It was the perfect home for a family of elemental witches, which is what she was expected to be given she was a second generation member of the Ee mark. Both her parents were, as was her older brother, and from a young age both her younger siblings started to display the tell tale signs of their elemental magic. This wasn’t the case for Winnie. Growing up she always presumed this was the cause of her mother's distance from her. She always paid a lot more attention and gave a lot more time to her other three children and the mentees she took on that she did her eldest daughter. It made Winnie feel she had failed somehow but her father always sought to show her she was wrong. Guozhi always adored her and made sure he made up for the lack of attention her mother gave her.
Whilst she didn’t display any signs of being able to control any elements it was clear there was something special about her. Her parents would often find her in the beds of her siblings in the mornings, even Kang who she never got along with. When asked what she was doing she would shrug and say they needed her. It was one of her mother's mentees who finally figured it out after they themselves woke up with Winnie curled up next to them. They suffered from terrible nightmares and that night was the first time in a long time they hadn’t woken from them. In fact they couldn’t remember having them at all. She was one of the first witches to show signs of a mental power in the family which confused everyone greatly and resulted in her mother becoming even more distant. After that it wasn’t long before they realised Winnie was a dream manipulator.
It is a tradition of the Ee family that members are trained within the family for the first 300 years and despite Winnie’s unusual power the head of the family declared she would be no different. When she was of age she was sent to train with her uncle, which only meant going to the house on the opposite side of the small river their home sat on. Her uncle was fascinated by her, often treating her more like some curiosity than his student. He was not an unkind man though and Winnie grew to rather love how he made her feel like she was something remarkable. It was also his influence that gave her the freedom to speak her mind as she was always getting told off for doing at home.
Life passed rather quietly for the first few hundred years and whilst Winnie started to crave more she never would have imagined what was to come. Guozhi, the man who had raised her, died suddenly. The whole family was thrown into turmoil by what would follow it. Naturally Winnie was heart broken. The nights were the worst though. Her insomnia got worse and when she did finally fall asleep she couldn’t stop herself from slipping into her family's dreams. There were nights where she felt like she was drowning under the weight of those grief driven dreams of the people around her and she frequently woke up with her bedroom full of water. One morning when she broke down in tears after slipping into the daydream of her mother whilst making tea her mother finally snapped. She accused Winnie of having no right to her grief and finally letting slip that he wasn’t her father at all.
Her mother practically ignored her for a week after that. In that time her younger sister also stopped talking to her and her younger brother started speaking to her like she was the staff. It was only her older brother, so much like his father, that stuck by her side. Eventually Winnie was able to get her mother to tell her the full truth. Guozhi had been away in Shanghai for some months on family business when a stranger entered her life. His name was Luca and he was a merchant from Italy who was travelling the Silk Road. He was handsome and charming and swept a lonely Caihong off her feet. Before she realised what she was doing she’d spent the night with him. In the morning he continued on his travels and she got back to her daily life. She tried to bury the shame of what she’d done but when she found out she was pregnant she knew it was his. It was her belief it was the god's punishment for straying from her marriage.
Winnie was furious, having spent her life thinking she’d done something to disappoint her mother but all along it was the woman's own shame that had caused her to treat Winnie as she did. With the name of her biological father and the city he was from she left that spring, travelling along the Silk Road to Italy. It took her a year to track down Luca Tovani but when she did he welcomed her with open arms. She found he was from a family known for their mental powers and he offered to take on the responsibility of her mentoring. It was here that she started going by Winifred. Luca had no other children but confessed to her that if he had he’d always liked the name Winifred. Wanting to show that she wasn’t just a Ee, that she was his daughter too she decided to take on the name.
They only had a few short years together before he too was killed. Once again she was heartbroken but she was also so thankful that she’d gotten to spend any time with him at all. She stayed on in Italy, being mentored by one of her father's oldest friends and exploring the country he’d called home.
Eventually she travelled back to her own home to reconnect with her family. Her two youngest siblings still treated her with disdain but her older brother was overjoyed to see her. Even her mother showed more warmth towards her than she ever had before. But she felt in her heart that she couldn’t stay there permanently. So she travelled to America where she could continue her training.
→ The Present Winnie only finished her training ten years ago, at which time she decided she wanted to stay in Chicago. One day she’d like to become a mentor herself but right now she’s enjoying the freedom completing her own training has given her. She likes having more time to indulge in the things she enjoys and to develop her own business. She’s been slowly building a client list of people who she helps with sleep and nightmare issues. Alongside this Winnie is enjoying developing a line of teas, candles and bath products to aid sleep and good dreams. She’s been selling these concoctions and potions through Wondering Worlds of Magic.

Amy Dunne was submitted without propaganda.

Oh boy, strap in bc this one’s crazy. So, Mapleshade was a cat who died several generations before the main series began. If you were to rewrite New Prophecy and Power of Three/Omen of the Stars, or if someone else wanted to use the rules of the amendment to pick up where you left off, what changes would you make to the plot, characters, or storytelling? What would certain names change to? Who would parent whom? How would the move to the Lake turn out? Would you remove the tribe? (please do) What about the Three's parentage? You don't have to answer this, I'm just curious about the sequel potential.
Initially, I was going to say that I can’t answer this in detail, but I guess I had more thoughts than I suspected! Deux’s still got the technical continuity, so this is just purely what I’d do. Any similarities are purely coincidental, I promise.
Also, this got long, so I’m going to post the third arc in another post.
My first change would be to have the second arc happen waaaayyy after the first. Generations, if we can help it. I’ve never been wild about everything happening so close to each other that cats who saw the rise of Tigerstar also saw the return of SkyClan. I feel like the Clans should have a long stretch of peace before shit just goes haywire again.
That of course means a largely different cast of characters, which could be difficult, but if you just change the names and some relations, you can pretty much copy-paste the main crew into new names with similar personalities. Making the cats all purebred of their Clan would be top priority. It irritates me that exactly one cat in the entire canon traveling group doesn’t have ThunderClan in their blood. That’s just bullshit and totally ruins the idea of cats from different walks of life getting together and forging a bond past what they have with their Clanmates.
Speaking of, as I talked about here, the cats should grow much closer to each other than they did in canon. Their conflicts and personal beefs would erode as they go through so many hardships and forge a bond built by suffering and triumphing together. The loss of one of their own breaks them all equally, yet only tightens their relationships as they grieve and move on together. When it’s time to split again and rejoin their Clans, they’re conflicted – they simply can’t separate enemies and friends like they used to. This would cause problems with their native Clans and possibly lead to moments where they fight together as a team or leak information to each other to prevent war.
The Clans already lost a lot of cats before the six come back for them, and by the time they make the long trek to the lake and settle down, a third or possibly even a little under half of the cats are dead to sickness, starvation, injuries and infections. The cats that make it are underfed and stressed beyond belief, so their aggression is upped a little. When they figure out their borders, they protect them with a particular fierceness that hasn’t cropped up in a long time. This makes things awkward when the Leafpool equivalent and the Crowfeather equivalent have a fling out of emotional turmoil, panic and start to leave the Clans to avoid the fallout, only to make themselves go back and go their separate ways. Not to mention that the main cast is under a lot of scrutiny to make sure they don’t pull anything and try to help their friends.
Tigerclaw would not make another appearance, but there could definitely be a living cat or two, such as Mudclaw or Hawkfrost (or whatever he’d be called) that aim to take advantage of the situation and gain more power so their Clan can have the most territory around the lake. Their ambition would be powered by paranoia and panic, rather than malice; they’ve gone through a heavy loss of their numbers and their old home, and no one knows if StarClan or the Three are around to protect them anymore. Securing a lot of land or forcibly subsuming other Clans would help keep their Clan strong, no matter what happens. The resulting battle and death of the antagonist leaves everyone relieved that the fight is over, but the cost is just too high to feel happy about it.
In general, I’d want to make the second arc more melancholy. A theme of loss, friendships and relationships that are not meant to be, trying to run from your problems and having to deal with them and move on would permeate the story. It would end on a bittersweet note – the Clans are alive and there’s a faint hope for the future, but the friendly relations between them are destroyed, a lot of cats are dead, there’s doubt that StarClan will show up in this new home, and the main cast has to say goodbye to their new friends to keep the peace. It’d be a bit of a bummer ending, but it’s a pretty dark concept of a story to begin with, so I feel it fits.
And as for the Tribe? I honestly don’t know what I’d do with them. Maybe have a loose group that slowly becomes the Tribe after influence from the Clans? I have no idea. They’d probably get taken out unless they’re a good source of conflict.

Only Human: Part 8: Epilogue “The Family of Storm’s End”
Here is the epilogue!! So I am like seriously considering a sequel for this with the children that Arya and Gendry have, but it won't be a multi chapter (I say that, but let's be real, it probably will be) and may just be a one shot. I have had this idea for like a future story with the kids of Arya and Gendry, so I may decided to write that in the near future. I also want to give an update on AUJ. I have about half of the next chapter written and am planning on uploading around 4th of July weekend. But let me know, seriously, if you guys want to more of Bella and her siblings (note: she had four other siblings). I just have to have a big family for them, considering Arya comes from one and I feel like Gendry would want one. Also, this part was literally put together because I was at Pride all weekend here in Florida and I am hella exhausted. My feet hurt, but my heart is screaming with joy! This was my first Pride parade and I loved it!! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this and let me know what you think! As always, happy reading!!
Epilogue: The Family of Storm’s End
It had been six moons since Arya showed up at Storm’s End and she was finally beginning to settle with ease. It had taken some time for her to become familiar with routine, but once she did she found it embracing. For most of her life she had been on the run; trying to escape the demons of her past. Now that she had time to still, she appreciated the life that was around her. She was still that uncage wolf that she would always be, and Gendry understood that.
The first moon in Storm’s End had been hard on Arya and all she wanted to do was escape. She had gotten up in the dead of night in no more than in her sleeping gown and made her way to the busy shores. She needed to look out at the sea; to see the waves crash against the side of the castle. She had missed the open waters and running a ship.
She didn’t want to have an excuse to run away, so she had given her ship to Aries. He was very much like her and couldn’t sit still for long. He wanted to continue what she started and find west of Westeros. Arya had given him her blessing and gave her ship to him for good measure. He was grateful and had promised to return it in one piece. Aires’ lover, Donovan had intended to go with him but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work in the kitchens at the castle.
It was a momentous goodbye. Arya, Sienna, and Alyse had joined Donovan at the dock at Griffin’s Roost. Gendry had been hesitant, but agreed to let Arya take young Bella, so long as he joined them. There were tears and laughter as they watched their dear friend depart on his journey. Donovan had been a mess, tears and snot running down his face. Arya couldn’t help but laugh at the confusion upon Gendry’s face.
Later that night, when they were staying at the inn half way between Storm’s End and Griffin’s Roost, Arya had explained to her stupid bull that Donovan and Aries were very much like his Uncle Renly and preferred the company of men. His cheeks went bright red and they laughed through the night.
There were more times since, that she would wake and sneak out of the castle to sit on the sands and watch the reflection of the moon on the water.
By the time the third moon came, Gendry had begun to sense Arya’s absence in the bed beside him. He woke just shortly after she had made her escape and had a feeling on where she would be. He made his way out of the castle and around to the beaches below. He saw her small figure sitting on the shore just before the waves could reach her feet. She had her knees pulled up to her chest with her chin resting atop of them.
There hadn’t been too many times in Arya’s life where someone could sneak up on her, but that night, Gendry had. She was startled by his sudden presence beside her but was glad that he finally was able to find her. She rested her head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arms around her small frame.
“You finally found me.” She said to him, pressing further into him.
Gendry sighed, “Aye. It only took three moons.”
Arya gave a small chuckle and continued to gaze out at the sea.
“And what about Bella?” She asked after short time of silence.
“I woke Sienna before I left. She is watching her.” Gendry paused. He knew why she was on the beach, but he needed to hear it from her.
“What is going on Arya? Do you regret staying?” He asked her.
Arya lifted her head from his shoulder and looked him dead in the eyes.
“I do not regret anything. I…I just miss it. I miss the freedom it allowed me to have; being on the sea. I just feel like I am suffocating at times.” She confessed.
Gendry placed a small kiss on her lips.
“If you need time, I will give it to you. If you have to escape for a few weeks at a time, let me know. I will never hold you back.”
Arya returned a kiss to him, the smile on her face never leaving.
“I know you will never hold me back, but there is someone who will, and she is sound asleep in her cot up there,” Arya pointed to the castle towering above them.
Gendry let out a laugh, “Yes, because she is a demanding babe. I’ve seen you feed her, she eats like your teat will run away! And even though she loves her mother, I’m sure that Alyse and Sienna will be more than happy to help with her, if ever you feel the need to escape for a bit.”
Arya ley out a sigh, “I know they would, but I just can’t leave her. Not yet. Maybe when she is older, where she doesn’t rely on me as much. But for now, I stay here with her and with you.”
“If you say so.” Gendry teased.
Arya gave him a slight shove and they stayed there on the beach for some time, just watching the waves move against the sandy shore. By the time they decided to return, the sun was just beginning to rise above the horizon.
That was three moons back and Arya was now able to spend her time wisely. She trained young men and women in the art of water dancing and was even teaching Alyse a few things to protect herself as any woman should know how to.
She even helped Gendry in the day to day runnings of the castle. A few of the liege lords were weary but took her in with open arms. There was one liege lord who had questioned the parentage of Bella, and Arya was quick to let him know otherwise.
“Call my child a bastard again, Lord Estermont, and I can promise that my dagger won’t miss your head a second time.” She had told him coldly.
Her Cat’s Paw dagger has stuck in a banister right behind the lord’s head. She had thrown it at him the moment that word left his mouth. His face went pale and he gave a quick nod of his head. She never heard that word come out of his mouth again.
After that moment, the lords new better than to question Lady Arya Stark.
Mya had a harder shell to crack. She was extremely protective of her brother and doubted Arya’s intentions on more than one occasion. She didn’t fully trust Arya and it would take time for her to completely open herself up to her.
Arya knew that Mya was would be the oil to her water. They didn’t seem to mesh well with one another and avoided each other at all costs. Mya even started to avoid Gendry, consider Arya was always with him. They hardly spoke and last full conversation they had was when Arya first arrived.
Mya fully believed that Arya would disappear on night, and never return; breaking her brother’s heart like she had just a few years prior.
When Gendry came to her one night asking for her advice in marriage, she quickly tried to shut down the idea.
“Don’t be stupid, little brother. If she didn’t want to marry you then, she doesn’t want to marry you now. What is the difference?” She chastised.
“The difference, Mya, is that we have a child together and I truly believe that she’ll stay. The people love her and even the lords have come around. She won’t leave Bella, at least not yet, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her.” Gendry confessed.
Mya groaned in frustration. Gendry had told her about the night he found Arya on the beach. He told her the conversation that they had nearly three moons ago. She had told him then to not be surprised if he woke and Arya was truly gone. She even called him an idiot for allowing her to leave like that, if she chose to.
“Do what you want, Gendry. I don’t care. Just don’t come to me when she leaves again.” Mya stormed out her own room and headed towards the kitchens. It had become her favorite place here of late, and it was the only place in the castle where she could drink her ale without any interruptions. But that night she was joined by none other than Arya Stark.
She was waiting for her at a small table seated by the hearth where the cooks baked their bread. There were only two seats and Arya was occupying one of them. She had two goblets of ale sitting atop the table; one in her hand and the other in front of the empty seat.
“Seven hells, can I have not one place to myself?” Mya exclaimed.
“I am not staying long, just want to talk.” Arya explained.
Mya took the seat across from her and downed the goblet of ale. She grabbed the near by pitcher and refilled her cup.
“What do you want to talk about?” Mya’s tone was a bit harsh and she didn’t care.
“I know what Gendry asked you. I have had a feeling he’s been wanting to ask me again for some time. Well, that and I also found a small box in his chest that housed a ring. That stupid bull! I don’t need a ring.” Arya took a sip of her goblet and cringed at the taste. She never really liked ale, she preferred wine, but thought it best to have Mya’s favorite drink for the situation.
“So, you are going to say no.” It wasn’t a question.
Arya cocked her head and raised her left eyebrow, “I never said that. I just said that I didn’t need a ring.”
Mya was beginning to get frustrated with the conversation and wanted nothing more than escape the suffocating interaction.
“What do you want, Arya? Do you want my blessing? Well, sorry, I won’t give it. I worry for him and I worry that you’ll break his heart again. I can’t have that.” Mya confessed, her voice slightly cracking.
“I know how it is to worry and to protect your brother. I did the same with mine and in the end, he became more broken than before. But I want you to know that I will never hurt him again. I’ve thought about leave for some time when Bella gets older, but the more I think about it, the more I hate the idea. I can’t leave him. Not again. I love Gendry and I want to marry him.” Arya opened her heart to Mya, hoping that she would believe the words that she was saying.
Mya sighed. She could hear the truth behind Arya’s words and it aggravated her. She wanted so hard not to believe her, but she couldn’t help but see the emotion on Arya’s face. There in front of her, sat a girl that had become vulnerable, when it was nearly impossible for her to do so.
“Alright. But if you do anything to hurt him, I promise I will gut you myself.” Mya stated.
Arya let out a small chuckle, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The two women remained in the kitchens for a time, just talking and genuinely getting to know one another.
After their conversation, Mya had begun to care for Arya like any sister would and started to truly believe that she was here to stay.
She enjoyed watching her brother and Arya interact. She could see the true love that each of them had for the other. She could see the way Gendry would stare adoringly at Arya when she would be in the training yard or how Arya would look at Gendry when he was in the forge working on whatever weapon a liege lord had ordered.
It was the type of love that she hadn’t seen and hoped that she would never lose to see.
She even began to love Bella in a way that she didn’t know she was capable of. It was a different kind of love than the one she had for her brother or even Arya. This love was that of a mother and child, and even though Bella wasn’t hers, she would love her just as fiercely as her parents did.
They had become a family, the lot of them. It wasn’t just Arya, Gendry and Bella. It was Alyse, Sienna, Donovan, and Mya too.
Arya didn’t think that she would be this lucky and gain a family that loved her just as much as her other family had. It was perfect for her, and she didn’t need anyone else.
So, just a moon later, she married Gendry with only her family in attendance. She didn’t need a large party or celebration, all she needed were the people that mattered most to her. Even her brother, the king and her sister, the queen were in attendance. She had sent a raven beyond the wall to let Jon know of her nuptials and had received one back congratulating her on her happiness. Gendry had also received a letter from Jon, which he had yet to share with Arya.
The wedded, celebrated, and bedded; becoming joined as husband and wife.
Several years had gone by and Jon had been given a pardon to visit Arya on Bella’s third nameday. It had been a happy surprise and one that Arya would never forget. Jon stayed with them for three weeks and when the time came to bid farewell, Arya had cried into his chest as if she were a little girl.
“I’ll see you again. Take care, and make sure you keep Gendry in his place.” Jon had smiled to her.
Arya nodded and gave her big brother a soft kiss of the cheek.
She saw Jon leave the gates and didn’t tear her gaze from his back until he had disappeared over the horizon.
She wiped the tears from her face and made her way to the training yard.
Gendry knew better than to disturb her when she was emotional and thought it best to avoid her. Although Bella had yet to learn that skill.
She toddled down to the yard and grasped her mother’s leg.
“Don’t cry, mama.” She whined into Arya’s leg.
Arya lifted her child into her arms, hugging her.
“I’m not, my sweet. Now, where is your father? He should have been watching you.”
As if summoned, Gendry had made his appearance.
“Bella, what have I told you about wondering off. I’m sorry, Arya, she is a quick one. Much like you.” He leaned forward and planted a kiss of her lips.
“Mhh, she is like me. I just hope the next one is like you.” Arya said smoothly.
It had taken Gendry several moments to realize what Arya had said. His eyes widened, and his mouth became slightly agape.
“Are you certain?”
Arya nodded, “The maester confirmed that I may be three moons along.”
Gendry’s face broke out into a wide grin. He lifted Arya into his arms, with Bella still in Arya’s. The two girls giggled as they were being twirled around.
He gently set them down on the ground and Gendry gave Arya another sweet kiss.
“Eww, papa!” Bella squealed.
Gendry laughed and turned his attention to Bella, “I’ll show you eww.”
He began to tickle her profusely, giving her small kisses on her cheeks. Bella giggled and wiggled out of Arya’s arms, running away from her father. Gendry followed behind her, chasing her into the main courtyard.
Arya smiled at the pair and couldn’t help but feel her heart swell with joy, and although the thought of another babe had scared her, she was truly excited to see what the future help for the family of Storm’s End.

yeehaw so a long while ago, before mapleshade’s vengeance came out, we were all terrified of what the novella was going to do to the only (at the time) female villain the series had - lets be real, the erin’s track record is very, very bad.
so i wanted to do my own mapleshade story! and i did - for a while, anyway. i got busy, personal life stuff happened, and i dropped the project. the blog still exists with a portion of the story, though, if anyone is interested. i did my best at the time to piece together a pre-bluestar’s prophecy story before one existed!
now, mapleshade’s vengeance is a decent novella - one of the best, tbh. so i dont really intend to keep going with my imagining (or re-imagining i guess now) of the tale - so i guess ill just dump all the details i remember, because im bored.
the prologue of the story sees redwillow, a new member of the now-defeated dark forest, wandering about in his new home and considering what led him to this point. he runs into mapleshade, they sass, and mapleshade, tired and fading, settles down to tell redwillow her story.
it begins with maplekit and sweetkit as the kits of dapplestar, thunderclan’s current leader. a heavy leaf-bare has struck thunderclan, leaving prey scarce. maplekit is born with a sickness that makes it hard for her to breathe and move - she is confined mostly to the nursery, with sweetkit and the queens.
dapplestar is not the best mother - she focuses her energies on her clan rather than her children, so maplekit and sweetkit are often left by the wayside, much to the dismay of the queens and some of the clan. dapplestar, however, seems very blind to it all.
thunderclan and riverclan are in conflict - riverclan is responsible for the death of dapplestar’s deputy and mate, snowtail, but thunderclan holds sunningrocks because of him.
maplekit’s sickness makes every cat question whether or not she can be a warrior - she’s smaller than sweetkit, having not had as much of a chance to develop her muscles. however, when newleaf comes, maplekit’s illness doesn’t seem to return, and dapplestar makes her kits apprentices.
the story kind of falls off here - maplepaw and sweetpaw meet other apprentices at a gathering, like applepaw of riverclan. maplepaw strives to do her best to get other cats’ attention, because she hates that her sickness made her weaker than others. she is visited by a “starclan” cat who trains her hard to help catch her up.
i wanted an odd alliance between thunderclan and shadowclan, something that the books never really had happen - because riverclan is demanding sunningrocks back and windclan is backing them.
despite their clan’s alliances, maplepaw and sweetpaw meet up with applepaw and other apprentices after a gathering and train together. sweetpaw doesn’t like the thought of sharing battle moves with other clans and refuses to go again, but maplepaw is pleased to show off her strength - especially when it gets applepaw’s attention.
maplepaw’s desire for attention and strength drives a wedge between her and sweetpaw very quickly - but maplepaw is bolstered but her progress and her mysterious mentor and quickly becomes a rising star in thunderclan. sweetpaw feels like she hardly knows her sister anymore, but doesn’t tell her clan that maplepaw meets with applepaw and the others.
eventually the fighting between thunderclan and riverclan comes to a head. maplepaw and sweetpaw earn their warrior names - mapleshade and sweetbriar. its the last thing the two sisters truly do together.
mapleshade continues to meet with applepaw, now appledusk, and their relationship turns romantic. sweetbriar takes a mate and moves into the nursery. mapleshade thinks her sister is weak for wanting to have kits so soon, and mapleshade’s mind quickly turns to ambition and power, wanting to take her mother’s place as leader one day and knowing she can, because she is considered thunderclan’s strongest warrior.
sweetbriar catches appledusk close with another riverclan she-cat at a gathering and tries to tell mapleshade, but mapleshade refuses to listen. sweetbriar calls her a hypocritical fool and the two properly cut ties, though sweetbriar wishes things were different. sweetbriar has her kits - pinekit and other kits that don’t make it through leaf-bare.
dapplestar sees the death of her grandkits and declares all out war on riverclan again, driving thunderclan warriors to their deaths and losing several lives herself trying to keep sunningrocks on thunderclan’s side. the clan is not happy with this, but mapleshade is - more of a chance to prove herself as thunderclan’s best.
mapleshade, however, is taken out of the fighting when she realizes she’s having kits. she meets with appledusk, who seems excited - mapleshade, for once, thinks of the kits’ lives and wonders if they could go away and start a clan of their own. appledusk refuses, and mapleshade wonders back to sweetbriar’s warning that appledusk might be cheating on her.
it is confirmed at a gathering when riverclan’s leader announces appledusk’s kits
mapleshade, furious, attacks and kills appledusk on riverclan territory. no riverclan cat knows who did it, but they know a thunderclan cat to be responsible. thunderclan is confused at the accusations. mapleshade does not care for the lives of her kits but she is forced to stay in the nursery, where she gives birth to her three kittens.
sweetbriar one more time tries to mend their sisterhood, and only gets out of mapleshade that she wishes she’d listened to sweetbriar moons ago, looking down at her kits with sorrow and scorn. sweetbriar puts the pieces together and realizes that mapleshade killed appledusk, and tells her that such a secret could not be kept for long. mapleshade insists shell silence any cat who threatens her, even sweetbriar.
the kits grow, and eventually their parentage is revealed. mapleshade is reviled for her treason, and when riverclan’s medicine cat is told he realizes that mapleshade killed appledusk. by riverclan’s decree, thunderclan trades mapleshade and her kits for sunningrocks.
mapleshade is exiled from riverclan immediately, chased from the territory by cats who threaten to kill her. her kits are kept in riverclan, lost without their mother and hated. mapleshade, despite her prior feelings, had grown to love her children. they were all she had, even if she wished they didn’t look like appledusk. spurred on by her dark forest mentor, mapleshade seeks out members of riverclan and thunderclan and begins to murder them - she kills riverclan’s deputy and appledusk’s riverclan mate, and eventually makes her way to murdering dapplestar, who exiled her from thunderclan.
she tries to reach her kits but they fear her - and mapleshade is cast away, dying from horrible wounds. she dies alone, swearing vengeance on both thunderclan and riverclan, but sweetbriar finds her sister’s body and buries her beside their favorite training log, wishing her sister had been different but still loving her all the same - which leads mapleshade to seek out sweetbriar’s grandson, tigerkit, for training.
...
obviously this is rough, messy, and way, way longer than a novella would be. there were just elements i hadn’t yet figured out and mapleshade’s vengeance did a pretty good job with her story that for once i didn’t feel the need to try and revive this concept.
i dont even know if this is better than what mapleshade’s vengeance brought us, but there it is! if you made it this far, thanks for looking over this garbled plot dump!
