Falsettos Characters as Simpsons Quotes
Marvin: For once, maybe someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."
Whizzer (when asked if this was how he imagined his life): Yes, but then I was a very depressed child.
Trina: Sometimes, I feel so smothered by this family I want to scream until my lungs explode!
Jason (when asked what he wants for his birthday): An absence of mood swings and some stability in my life.
Mendel (about Jason): He reminds me of me before the weight of the world crushed my spirit.
Charlotte: Oh, you want lies? Here's a few: medical school is expensive, but it's worth it!
Cordelia (when the adults keep swiping a piece of frosting from a cake that she made): Hey! Hey! Hey! Stop it! I made a special cake for you to ruin-- it's over there.

-dinner in america
CONS: -I think that the use of the n-slur wasn't really necessary??
-Simon saying the f-slur was weird, it goes against punk ideologies, calling her mother a lesbian was also super uncalled for?
-There were times where the dialogue was a bit cringe and very stereotypically edgy.
-The family not batting an eye on Simon got Kevin hooked on pot was kinda strange but that wasn't a really big deal in my problems with it.
OPINIONS ON OTHERS REVIEWS: -I don't really understand why people think that this will be a 100% real, non-stereotype view of punk when it's supposed to be a palatable love story with the very popular 'weird girl, tough guy' trope. In my opinion, there won't be a fully accurate punk-based film when it's made by mainstream companies, it has to be made by people in the community. (I saw someone call Simon the main love interest a nazi in their review??? I could be missing something but out of the two times i've seen this film there has never been any sign that he was?????)
-as someone w autism i didn't see the use of the r-word offensive unless it was obviously aimed to be like when the bullies would say it to her. Autistic people I know get called that by their own friends so it definitely isn't unrealistic or a term that people don't use anymore.
WHY I LOVED IT: -I thought the connection the two had was cute and served to show that even if others think you aren't worth anything, someone out there will.
-From what i've seen and heard in my local scene, I think Simon's band members ratting him out and going against the punk sort of moral code yet still calling themselves punk was pretty real. I know a bunch of people who really suck and are genuine bad people but still listen to the music of the subculture and dress as such despite their own actions contradicting the whole political view.
-I could be totally wrong so forgive me if i am but i think 'My Kind of Women' by Mac Demarco was the only song in it that wasn't written for the film. It being paired with the arcade sequence really made the movie more romantic and we could see the connection grow between the two just from shots of them playing games and the look in their eyes.
OVERALL: I think that it was a cute movie that had a lot of ups, it has the potential to be a popular teen movie where obvious weird shit goes down (dead cat on bullies lol) yet people still love it, but the amount of slurs used were unnecessary.

What is your opinion on Lydia's mom?
Especially in s4 and s5
I feel like there's a lot to think about when you think about how Lydia got the banshee gene from her Dad's mom - and Lydia's parents are divorced since s2? Maybe?
Feels like a lot of strange emotional issues there for sure!
all the parents in teen wolf kind of suck tbh. it's something we should acknowledge more i think. teen wolf deals so much with growing up and part of that is realizing that your parents are humans which makes them flawed and fallible.
natalie martin unfortunately didn't get much characterization until later in the series which makes her hilariously sort of neglectful and checked out in the early days of the show. like girlie pop let stiles into her daughter's bedroom while lydia was in a negligee and drugged up.
but susan walters is delightful and an icon so she became a more and more frequent guest start but lbr she's also married to linden ashby which is part of the equation there.
it's always been an interesting choice to me that they never recast lydia's father. he was present when she was in the hospital in season 2 and than he disappears but yet lydia's banshee powers come from his side of the family.
that alone puts his comments about lydia's behavior in the tell in a different perspective. still shitty but interesting with hindsight.
ms. ramsey: let me tell you, there's plenty to say about lydia. mr martin: did I not predict this? natalie: here we go! total nuclear meltdown, as usual. mr martin: what is it? her grades? concentration issues? erratic behavior? natamlie martin: i'm not the one who told her she had to choose who she wants to live with! as if that wouldn't warp a sixteen-year-old girl. mr. martin: just tell us what the problem is.
i also find the comment elias stilinski made during his lucid moment in sundowning about natalie to be, well, mean but also accurate about her and also about lydia.
elias stilinski: you're natalie martin's daughter. am i right? you look like her. she was pretty once too. she also liked to talk like she was the smartest person in her room.
it's their worst traits. lydia in season 1 is all about this. in the beginning lydia is vain and condescending. natalie can be as well as it's of course where lydia learned it from.
natalie martin is someone who is characterized by her fears in a lot of ways which makes her so very frustrating. especially in the later seasons and her fear pertaining to lydia comes directly from what happened to lorraine.
she's both afraid for lydia and afraid of lydia's abilities. natalie does love her daughter and we see her attempt to support her frequently but it often falls just short of what lydia actually needs. natalie's fear prevents her from fully understanding lydia.
she never quite overcomes this either even though by the end of the show she knows the big secret. she's aware of the supernatural but she refuses to acknowledge it properly even with her own daughter.
forgive this reference, but it's kind of dursley-ish. she wants everything to be very normal thank you very much. she fears how other perceive her and her daughter.
i do give her a few points for not running from beacon hills though. she does try to help the kids out in school. it's not always with the greatest understanding but she did cover up the beast incident and tried to get scott, liam and malia to the end of their high school careers.
so i find natalie martin a frustrating character but i think she contrasts really nicely with the other parents like melissa mccall, the sheriff and the argents.
i also find it hilarious that peter kept trying to date her and melissa to fuck with lydia and scott. it's fucked up and manipulative as scott and lydia are his two favorite chew toys that aren't derek but like it's also really funny.

can you rate comic hawkperson wings. or just the golden age ones that look like a trashbag taped to their back
i can, however because i am not a hawks expert and there are so many different artists i will be ranking an assortment of the ones that are on the dc wiki page's gallery. please forgive me if i mix up some carters and katars and so on. i am also not including the mechanical wings of shayera thal and rebirth kendra saunders, this is for feathered wings only.
very, extremely long post under the cut.
this carter's wings are a solid 7/10. off to a good start. there's clear delineation between the primaries and secondaries and the primary and secondary coverts. the size of them is a plus because they're so big they don't fit in the image. i like how low down they go on his back.
this carter's wings are a 2/10. you can't just make a shape. that's not what wings look like. why are all the feathers the same length. why are they attached with such small points of contact. why is there no humerus. what is going on.
this carter's wings are a 6/10. i don't understand how they're attached to his body and this is another Missing Humerus Incident but i like the way they curve and there's some properly differently-lengthed feathers going on. bonus for dawnstar's in the back also looking pretty off.
this carter's (?) wings are a 1/10. what the fuck is going on. i know you guys had birds in the golden age. go outside and look at them. to make no mention of his ass?? what is Fucking happening
this carter and kendra's wing set is a 3/10. we've got a combo here. i've always really disliked this cover because of the wings. carter's aren't too bad? we have the barest suggestion of a humerus and they're decently long. but they're way too thin and crescent-shaped. kendra's are abysmal. or should i say kendra's single wing is abysmal because i don't know what happened to her other one. why is it so thin! is that feather on top supposed to be the alula? what is happening?
this carter and kendra's wing set is a 9/10. alex ross, while i don't care for his interiors much, is a very technically Good artist and he obviously knows what wings look like. these ones actually have humeri and look fully feathered with different feather lengths. the size of them is also great.
this carter's (?) wings are a 1/10. I Know You Had Birds In The Golden Age. Go Outside And Look At Them x2
this carter's wings are a 1/10. they are going to make me the joker. where the BONES. what is happening with the feathers. why are they so small and skinny. kendra's one visible wing is really bad too but carter's are atrocious. do not pass go.
this katar's wings are a 1/10. liefeld appears to have invented several new bones to go in wings that make them bumpy and ropey and has decided that feathers can be accurately represented with haphazard squiggles. nothing here is right.
this katar's wings are a 7/10. i think we're doing well here! the feathers don't have much detail but that's alright and it's enough that we can see the primaries are long and trailing. we have a humerus and i love the way they're tented over his head. it reminds me of a juvenile hawk trying to look bigger.
this sheira's wings are a 8/10. i like them! another Case Of The Missing Humerous (there appears to have been an attempt made at one way too close to the bend of the wrist) but the feathers are fairly accurate and i appreciate the way they bend. i think the more dynamic wing pose helps sell this as a better looking wing.
this shayera's wings are a 4/10. they're suffering from the same stiffness that would later be applied to dcau shayera's due to the limitations of the style, but i do like the sleek look. we have a very floppy radius and ulna though.
this kendra's wings are a solid 4/10. i love the feathers, i love the subtle color differences between the coverts and the primaries and secondaries, but the bones are just a suggestion. i do think the dynamic pose hides some of the bonelessness though.
this kendra's wings are a 1/10. they are actually going to make me lose my mind. that's not how perspective works. what is going on here.
this kendra's wings are a 3/10. we are once again suffering from "feathers that are all the same length" syndrome, and they're super floppy. this is where they get the boneless chicken wings at wingstop from.
controversial take but this kendra's wings are a 7/10. extremely large, clearly have all the right bones, i even see an alula. i like that it looks like she's mantling on prey in a defensive posture. rare rags morales kendra W.
this kendra's wings are a 2/10. i know these are likely supposed to be her more mechanical ones (which i said i wouldn't do up top) so real world wings rules don't really apply, but What the Fuck is happening at the base of them. it's like the artist realized they fucked up part of the way through and had to scramble to make it look normal and failed. not even the alula can save it.
this kendra's wings are a 6/10. why are they so skinny and then suddenly so wide? who is going to solve the Case Of The Humeri now that the thief has struck again? many questions. however, i do like the layering of the feathers and those nice long primaries. the ingredients are there to make these wings good, they're just a bit off.
bonus:
this kendra's wings are a 9/10! the only thing is their size; they should be much larger. however there's that nice layering i've been repeatedly praising between the primaries and secondaries and their coverts, there does seem to be a humerus in each wing in the other angles we get of it, and they even made her tertials fluffy with chick down. i just don't know where they're supposed to be attached to her back. in most of the panels they're kind of... mysteriously floating behind her. oh well. nothing is perfect.
#hawkman#hawkgirl#this is making me want to rank hootie and charlie illustrations#one thing i was doing the other day while reading comics#was turning my computer around and showing my partner whenever there was a new fucked up charlie drawing#since they are an amazing artist and do both digital and physical paintings of birds#they kept going through the five stages of grief#long post#jaclynhyde

I would like to see pieces of what they are, I want to understand it in an accurate sense, it's that sort of desire I have... I want to know what it is, what it's supposed to be, what it's really like...it's not just about a fictional piece, I think I've always had that desire to understand people, make out of what exactly they could be feeling and how things work... Not only in a logical sense but in an emotional sense,
It's a "want" I feel I naturally have, and that mindset extends to so many things I encounter upon. I think that's allowed me to approach and connect with a lot if things.
But it's such a selfish and unrealistic desire too because everyone is so different and it may be imoossible to fully understand that's not yourself. And I'm so far from being knowledgeable, what I know is so limited, so wishing for something like this can be rude to the other party since I'd be limiting them to only what I can make out of them myself. In that case, it's better to just acknowledge I have a certain lens I use to see things, and realize of its limits while trying to improve what it could offer for me throughout my entire life. That's what I think growth could mean, it can be achieved through a lot of ways but this surely is one! :)
Still, most things do have some common ground, so if you think of it positively, you CAN still relate to so many things that aren't you and go even further than that, it helps you discover things you never anticipated it to be there. I do think there is a point in trying to understand one another through the head and the heart.
Maybe that's why we aren't just a single ball of meshed up entity or some sort of hive mind that shares every single thing in common, it's nice things are different and left mysterious because there's always more room for thought and to explore! Whether it be you can accept it or not(but I hope things still don't have to hurt each other abd be cruel.)
Yeah... It's not a bad thing to be different. It may even go as far to being desirable if you take it this way,
But I really want to understand things and get on the same wavelength and level too!! It'd be sad if I wouldn't be able to get what things are and relate to them! I think...I personally think, it could be one of my reason for living... I talked with a friend sometime back and they said they aren't like this so not everyone feels like it, huh? XD Well to be fair, my energy is so limited and I get biased and selective with what I end up struggling to understand in the end.. I wish I could care for every single thing, love every single thing(perhaps it's one of the reasons why I really love seeing characters like that, seeing them do that feels so healing. And it's relatable to a degree although they are saints and I'm not) but... What I have is very limited. My thoughts, insights, knowledge, resources, experiences, it'll never be enough in order to achieve what I want, but I hope to be closer to it day after day as long as I live, or until I lose this will to!
It's such a nice opportunity for it to have had my thoughts flow like this. I really should read more books and increase my comprehension. And I should forgive myself for being wrong about something whether it be about myself or something else. I get too serious about some things that it gets scary~~
I'd like to say I try though! I am very introverted I think, but, I love a lot of things. I notice that I really love little kids and feel an affection towards people in general although it's a vague feeling of connection I have. I wish you all well! Thanks for being kind to me! I've been talking so much lately, hm..I really do hope it wasn't something too bothersome to take, if I could send some type of positivity through it, it'd be nice~ I tend to be really showy about my emotions but I want the good ones to get out there. The good ones can make others happy. Bad ones.. Make people agitated and worry. I just hope the way I see things aren't what make feel for the worse, I want the opposite to happen!
So yeah. I'm really happy when I had people tell me what I drew were healing(The funny thing is, I DIDN'T purposely intend for that to happen!! I just draw out what I think and make out if things!!) so in the end, maybe that's what I want to do in an ultimate sense!! Learn and understand and heal!! Let's see if I can keep doing that in the future and through the course of my life! I will be very happy to cross ways with you through this desire! Hope you have a good life, I hope I do with mine!
#random blabbering#you know...maybe this work's been nudging me to learn about life in this sense#it's really intruguing~~ you can learn outta everything~~#but seriously!! seriously come on. hikaai has potential. I see so many lovely things about it.. I just see it...#I'm sure the writers would love them more than I do bc it's their character. their child#and I like them a lot!! so I wanna believe that#despite how terrible and ugly the guy turned out to be maybe it's going to make for a better catharsis#if it ain't-I'll just draw for them them#this post wasn't about that ship but just. honorable mention in the tags because I see good things about them in them#and seeing the good probably isn't usually bad; although I have this huge desire to BE ACCURATE#I AM A PERFECTIONIST!!

Music of the Revolutionary Century: Roslyn Castle
Perhaps tied for my favorite Haunting Revolutionary Tune, Roslyn Castle was used throughout the Revolutionary War as a British march, though it frequently takes the form of a dirge, becoming associated with funeral affairs (in one copybook from the period it is indeed labelled as "a Dead March"). The tune is named for the existing Roslyn Castle in Scotland—perhaps its somber air comes from the fact that the castle was evidently damaged multiple times from the 15th to the 17th century and lay mostly in ruins by the time the 18th century came around, when it was supposedly composed. Allegedly the British played this march in low spirits when they marched out of Hempstead Harbor, Long Island after the war.
My favorite version of this tune is not necessarily a particularly historically accurate one, but it is another instance of a rendition I find captures the tone of the melody so well. Melrose Quartet's version is a supremely emotional one, in the most comprehensive way possible: it is mournful, yet majestic—tragic, yet triumphant.
youtube
For my fellow music nerds out there (forgive while I get technical):
Interestingly, as my fellow fifer pointed out to me when I first mentioned the tune, the fife-and-drum version of the tune excludes the raised leading tone because fifes are tuned diatonically to "folk B-flat" (it's... complicated, I can't explain it fully myself—they're essentially played in the key of D, tuned in the key of Bb, and, like... actually pitched in Ab... it's not important) and aren't capable of playing that D#, which they substitute as a D natural. The result is something rather modal, a little less acute and a little more poignant—all that tension is gone, and that half-step alteration feels, somehow, profoundly resigned, without that painful pull toward the tonic.
#lmao daily reminder that i am also a music major#these posts be like here's some history now excuse me while i wax poetic about leading tones because i cannot be normal about anything#i really do love this tune i wish we played it more#but i should be glad that we don't considering it is quite literally a funeral march lol#amrev#american revolution#revolutionary war#revolutionary war music#18th century music#folk music#18th century#18thc#music#british army#Youtube#music of the revolutionary century#this is your captain speaking#redcoatposting#the captain's lectures#awi

hi luta!
i saw you did some analysis on tharntype and i wanted to, idk, talk a little about type to someone. i understand though if you don't want to reply/read/post this because i'm going to talk about, like, his past, because he's sort of important to me and i really enjoy your analysis
anyway
i know tharntype has a lot of flaws as a show, but as a csa survivor, type is kind of such an important character for me. he's an asshole, and says a lot of bullshit, and sometimes i want to punch him. and i love that about him. like. he's not a "perfect" victim, someone tragic but not traumatized. he's a dick, hard to deal with, and deeply traumatized, and a lot of his more rude character traits come from this. and i love that. i think sky is a more nuanced, refined version of that, but type was the first character i saw that had a similar past to mine and wasn't just a sob story on law&order: svu. he was a fully realized character with a lot of flaws, and he found someone to love him. it made me feel, i don't know, less broken? like i'm still worthy of love, despite my past, despite my trauma? i see a lot of that in sky too.
i don't know. i just had a lot feeling about this character (at least his concept; though i could do without the overt homophobia) and i wanted to talk about him and remain anonymous, i guess.
sorry for the rant, feel free to ignore it.
anyway. thank you so much, i hope you're having a lovely day!
Hey Love!!!
I was really enjoying writing the TharnType analysis, and then Mew had his tantrum. Kind of made the taste bittersweet. I don't need Mew and Gulf together. I'm a realistic fan who would love a love story, but really just wants a good show. However, when all I think about is the drama outside the drama when watching it, it's no longer fun. Anyway, that's why I've taken a break from the analysis, but I'm so glad you found them and enjoyed them.
Type is very important to me too. I think I've explained before that I too was that type of victim. It took me a long time to crawl out of the hate into survivor mode. You ever heard the song Ice Cream Man, by Raye?
And I was seven Was 21, was 17, and was 11 It took a while to understand what my consent means If I was ruthless, they'd be in the penitentiary But all the stress of being honest wouldn't help me I pushed it down, but it was living in me rent-free And then I fell into some things that were unhealthy A place where no one heard me asking them to help me
This song and TharnType help me not to feel so alone. To remember that despite the fact that I am damaged and will always be damaged, I can be loved too. I don't think people realize that most of us truly come out tortured, and we aren't sweet Polyannes that forgive all that is done to us. They see unrealistic portrayals of women just getting over it, portrayals by people who have never experienced SA and think that's accurate. It's not. Type is accurate. Being fucking pissed off and a ball of hate is a very natural reaction. And when we see correct portrayal, it's soothing. It reminds us that we aren't alone.
Thanks for writing to me. Please feel free to any time. 💜💜💜

4, 5, 12, 21 for japhet :)
4. What would your Dark Urge consider to be their greatest flaw? Is this accurate?
I think Japhet would say their greatest flaw is not being strong-willed enough, just going along with what others tell them to do- even though that isn't the case to the level that they think it is.
On one hand, they do bow to Sceleritas' instruction enough to fully intend to kill Isobel when they meet her- but on the other hand they realise it would mean the death of all of Last Light and manage to stay their hand. And yet they beat themself up for even wanting to do it.
Also, with Minsc- Jaheira dies at Moonrise, so they're forced to kill him. At which point they feel Bhaal approving of them for doing so, and they want to save him, and they don't want to do anything Bhaal wants them to do, but they can't find another way out. The Emperor wants them to kill him. Their father wants them to kill him. There's nothing they can do, but that doesn't make it feel any better.
5. What opinion does your Dark Urge have about the Gods?
ok so early in the game i think they have moments of derision looking at books about other gods and such, like "ugh that's such a stupid doctrine. you know in MY religion we.... uh." like they have the vague sense that they were religious in SOME way. as the game goes on, i think they get a sense that they're somehow beyond the reach of the gods. they think that if they prayed to any, there wouldn't be an answer. they aren't a person, they aren't under the gods' dominion- their fate has already been written for them. they're just a pawn in some awful game, trying to break out of it.
12. How does your Dark Urge feel about being a bhaalspawn?
It's worse than what they expected. it's confirmation of what they feared- that they're somehow inherently evil. they'd thought they were cursed in some way, or had some sort of other consciousness foisted upon them- not that the urge was them.
also they totally missed all the signs in moonrise that they had already been there. the closest they got is talking to the Absolute- but they came away from that thinking it was something connected to their patron (great old one). so that very much blindsides them as well
21. What are 2-3 songs that your Dark Urge would relate to?
OKAAAY so im using this as an excuse to plug my japhet playlist :3 but if i were to pick 3 songs:
Needed a Change of Pace - Jhariah
Oh, how could you love me so Oh, with all I've done and the things you know My dearest You better never forgive me Cause if you Forget what I've done I'll do it again
In The Blood - Hades OST
Run all you like From the place you belong It's always there It's in the air Your dearest kin Below the skin It's in the blood
Be Nice To Me - The Front Bottoms
I got boulders on my shoulders Collar bones begin to crack There is very little left of me and it's never coming back There are certain things you ask of me And there are certain things I'll lack The beginning, we were winning But now I'm just making up facts
#TY FOR THE ASK :DDDD#answering the asks late bc i was busy making a delicious cottage pie#added a chicken stock cube for the first time and absolutely blew my own socks off#japhet#hello world#long post

(2/2) those are the best stories because they have such a life and character of their own. you write all your fics masterfully but I have such a soft spot for this particular one. I feel very strongly that this just has to run its course before Big H and D can fall into one another. you've made me truly enjoy a slow burn! p.s. i selfishly can't wait for harry to figure out exactly how much draco likes being dominated. that's going to be such a riveting scene. ANYWAY, til next friday!
basically yes. yes!!! so one of the points this fic makes a few times is that love and forgiveness aren't transactional. they can be earned, but not always as a given. and there's two sides to that point, right? draco's love for younger harry, and the fact that younger harry deserves love and kindness and comfort is treated as a given that draco works in service of for the entire fic, and tries to convince harry of.
the other side to that is that in adult relationships, love and forgiveness isn't a given, it has to be earned and built, and draco now has to work for it. and he's dealing with an older harry who was never given the base of unconditional love that little harry is forming.
tbh this is why i can't give a fully accurate chapter end count yet. it takes time!! i don't want to undermine the work draco has to do to win older harry back, or the work older harry has to do to ever trust draco again. they have to be ready for it!!
(thank you, again, for these lovely thoughts and your shaking fist, i adored these messages so much!)

For the character ask game, would you do Finrod and Finarfin, please?
Of course!!
Finrod
I absolutely love Finrod's aesthetic. He's a snake he's a himbo he's antropologist he's a shiny he's covered in blood. just. top tier
I've actually just remembered this but I did invent a name for him! Tyelpenimer, Silver Shadow, is a name Maglor gives Finrod in my werewolf au
I love fanon vision of Finrod, especially appearence-wise. He definitely wears loads of jewelry, loves laughing and is a sweetheart. However fandom is also 100% WRONG. I don't love it when Finrod's portrayed as this perfect unproblematic cousin, or as holier-than-thou person, or as an optimistic ball of sunshine. My beef is probably with "holier-than-thou", mostly because I picture Finrod as someone who's pretty much able to see his own mistakes and to be fully aware of his wrongdoings. That's why I hate when C&C or, God forbid, Sauron are pictured as having moral high ground because "at least they're aware they did wrong things and aren't hypocritical"
Finarfin
HE'S A LEGEND HE'S AN ICON AND HE *IS* THE MOMENT
the man the myth the blorbo
HIS AESTHETIC ALRIGHT. he's a noldo by heritage, vanya by mother and teler by choice. no one does it like finarfin
NO ONE GETS HIM LIKE I DO (/jk)
No but for real, fandom does him dirty. I rarely see him as something more than a background character, and even then, he's usually kind, quiet and forgiving. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he posesses these traits, and I love that in him, BUT THEY'RE NOT ALL THAT CHARACTERISES HIM!! he's sad he's lonely he's hurt and he's angry!!!! and he has SO much potential. honestly it makes me sad there's not much aracentric fics
his hair glows in the dark. during war of wrath it glows constantly. i will take this headcanon into my grave and make tolkien canonise it
there's not much fanart of him which is a shame, though the fanart that exists is spectacular
there's like ten lines about him in canon. i based my entire personality around those ten lines. can you tell people find me weird
yes fanon is MEAN to him. I still remember vividly his description as a mommy boy, crybaby and a coward, all in one fic that claimed to be "objective" and "historically accurate". i also came across a take that pictured him as a corrupted power-hungry character, worse than both his brothers. though also fandom mostly ignores him which is just as mean because it makes me sad (/lh)
THERE IS SO MUCH PROJECTION. i'm sorry he's just a character that matters a lot to me
all in all. 10/10. the best character ever written, second to maybe hurin. exellent brainrot material, top tier. if you talk to me about him i Will cry of happiness.
#thanks for the ask!!#finarfin#noldo answers#silmarillion#i love how i have a 'finrod stan' in my bio but am actually a finarfin nerd#finrod

if there's one thing i love it's a good show. as television declines, i find myself attaching onto nearly any show that's bottom line mediocre in it's writing. House of the Dragon, Bridgerton, hell even Law and Order SVU. Be sure we'll get to the others soon, today. I have a gripe against Bridgerton.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in love with it. There's something to say about good worldbuilding, and Bridgerton does it well. You're swallowed whole by the show in the best way. It's a well done show. However, when you adapt from a book to a show, everyone will have something they hate about it.
"it's not book accurate" "The characters aren't right" "It's not even historically accurate"
And truth be told, they're valid arguments. I get it. Especially the character thing, and the historical accuracy. And a secret third option, using the other books that exist in the same universe!
In the books, you make up in your head what they look like, yet all the Bridgerton siblings look the same. "Dark chesnut hair" is the most used description. Although, the show did good in differeing Daphne and Francesca, it breaks up how they appear, instead of a wash of similar actors you get a, oh god I hate to say this word, but diverse group of siblings. However, having Violet be a more reddish brown (she was dirty blonde in the books), would be amazing. I digress and bow to the casting director for choosing Ruth Gemmel, she embodies Violet Bridgerton to a near T.
My main issue with historical accuracy is that hollywood doesn't care. It's nice when they take more care into to purposefully making it seem more historical based. God, Pride and Predjudice 1995?? Stunning, Fabulous, I'm so in love it's seeping out of my pores, it doesn't work for Bridgerton. Bridgerton is truthfully a fantasy, casually set in Regency England. The books take a skinny slice more historical accuracy, not much. to me, perosnally, It's really a fantasy romance; therefore, i can slightly forgive how accurate it is. The costuming is by far the most glorious of it. I really want a behind the scenes in making this solely for the costume designs.
I have read so much of this series. All 8 in the OG Bridgerton set, the prequels, and the first book for the smythe-smith (smith-smythe? smythe-smith? I can't remember). The writers had a real chance of sprinkling in this lore of the Rokseby's and the smythe-smith (they did in queen charlotte, that's a whole other thing), and they didn't. It would be such an amazing easter egg to see it done.
AND ANOTHER THING
Julia Quinn's book series, as books would translate terribly onto film if done, scene for scene, line for line verbatim. the only reason it worked for pride and predjuice, is that it was done to a near complete T historical accuracy. (is it fully accurate, no of course not. but damn if it ain't close.). in the first season, the reason why it is the way it is, about 75% of julia quinn's book is smut. season 1 is formatted pretty close to the books. even the books themselves don't have much of a difference in format.
Exhibit A: in the duke and i, about halfway through the book, they get married and the issue of children comes up, and it's all internal thinking done by the characters. which is why what happens, (it didn't need to) but it gives more insight as to why everything happens and how it's resolved. which is why for season 2 they switch it.
Exhibit B: we as viewers flock to rewatch season 2 over and over before considering season 1. season 2 has a stronger B plot (The featheringtons), more filler scenes, and it uses the shitty 8, hour long episode structure better.
Exhibit C: it morphed from a book to screen from season 1 to a drama in season 2. which makes for a better story structure, that's what film is for. To be a tv show, not a book. yes be accurate, but, the truth is, book to screen content exist as a multiverse. NOT an accurate retelling. thinking of it that way is better for your brain. Yes anyone and everyone could sit and talk for hours, and for me days about the inaccuracies, but at some point you gotta except it's a multiverse, not the same thing. and sometimes, it's better that way. (other times not as much, which is my theory on why season 2 is much more different between book and movie)

Also tell me if they need to be more specific but anyone you want from the naruto verse with a s/o with adhd
It’s been a while since I’ve written about a darling with ADHD. I am no expert so please forgive me if something is not accurate in here.
Tw: Yandere themes, unhealthy mindset, unhealthy relationship, possessiveness, obsessiveness, delusions, paranoia, stalking, overprotective behavior, manipulation, threatening, abduction, s/o with ADHD
Darling with ADHD
Hashirama Senju
🌳I feel like if there hasn't been already a diagnosis for ADHD, Hashirama might need a bit until he has discovered what is wrong with his darling. It's not that uncommon for a person to be very distracted and unmotivated or to be really hyperactive and energetic or even a mix of both, depending on which symptoms are strongest. Hashirama adores his darling either way and so it's either up to Mito or Tobirama to realize that something might not be completely right. The Hokage has probably stumbled across the term ADHD once since he is in general a really interested man willing to learn new things to help the village. His knowledge doesn't run professionally deep but the moment he knows that his s/o has ADHD, he memorizes as much as he can since he wants to be able to help.
🌳He grows a tad bit more protective once he has enough knowledge and is fiercely defeating you against anyone who might give you a wry look, especially against the eldest of his clan. His devotion doesn't change a bit and now that he knows that you aren't at fault for the sometimes questionable behavior, he is keen on shielding you from possible rude comments and mean jokes. People with disorders shouldn't be put down and treated like outsiders and I feel like once he gets fully invested because of you into this topic, he'll enliven the development in such areas in his village. Hashirama is also rather careful to not say anything that might sound wrong which is sweet even if considering that he's only praising you. Pesters your doctor how he can help you constantly.
🌳You're inattentive and can't concentrate for a longer time? That sounds scarily familiar for Tobirama since Hashirama tends to be distracted and lazy here and there himself. But that is no problem for the head of the Senju clan, he'll find a solution. Obviously his darling would have troubles being a good ninja under such conditions, Hashirama will help them with finding something fitting though. If they're unmotivated to finish a task he tries to motivate them by promising them to do something they want to do or he does it together with them. He entrusts Mito with you quite often since she's patient and will remind you of things you might forget. He'd rather spare you from the stricter treatment of Tobirama. In a way it helps Hashirama a bit as well since he learns to be more organized.
🌳If his darling shows more symptoms for the hyperactive-impulsive type, Tobirama once again gets a bad headache. Instead of one very active person, there are suddenly two though s/o might even beat Hashirama. He adores his darling in either case but also feels slightly more worried in such a scenario. Due to your impulsive and restless nature, you might end up running around and climbing up things which could end in an accident so he asks once again for Mito or Tobirama to watch over you a bit when he can't because of work. Another thing he does is asking everyone to not say anything rude to you when you're talking with them and end up shouting or interrupting them a lot which comes over as impolite. He's quite concerned about hurtful words others might throw in your direction.
Tsunade Senju
🐌She's called one of the best medics known to the ninja world for a reason, you know? I feel like even if her darling wouldn't have been diagnosed yet with ADHD, Tsunade would figure it out very soon. She's familiar with physical wounds much as she is with any sort of disorder and mental illness. Granted, she is really protective which stirs from her trauma of losing someone precious to her again. But she is never over-anaylzing something since she is a professional with plenty of experience. Your behavior and the symptoms that are giving it away won't be invisible for her eyes and she will run everything with you to confirm her suspicion. Honestly though, she will want to be involved in either case since the lady is confident that she can help with all her knowledge.
🐌If there should be someone who is your doctor and helps you in regards of this problem, she'll just take over their place with the snap of her finger, she's the Fifth Hokage after all! If there shouldn't be that just means she's your personal doctor from the very start. She's attentive, patient and open for all sort of questions from you in regards of ADHD. It's important for her to insure you that she still loves you though, she'll help you through everything. She's mainly in charge but if work keeps her occupied, she'll let Shizune or Sakura take over. Her students are the only people she fully trusts with your therapy, with others she's a bit wary. All of her patience and sweetness aside though, Tsuna is very determined to pull through with her therapy because this is still about your health and life.
🐌Let's assume you're the forgetful and unfocused type. This woman makes sure to arrange a whole schedule for you to remind you of things you are supposed to do. She's not one to overload you with tasks, there are only a few things that she wants you to remember and finish until the end of the day. She won't be exactly disappointed if you aren't able to do it, though you have either her or one of her two students as your motivator throughout the day. If you do it though, she's always rewarding you with something small and sweet. Throughout the day you always have small sessions where you have to focus on something to train your ability to stay a bit longer intent. Tsunade, as sweet as she is with you, can be quite short-tempered if someone says something wrong about you due to your disorder.
🐌I'd say that she definitely keeps the sharper eye on you if you fall more into the symptoms of being hyperactive and impulsive. Being impulsive and unable to stand still means that you're more likely to act rash and hurt yourself in the process. I mean, she'll be able to heal such wounds since she's already made sure that you won't be a ninja, but she can be a bit of a mother hen from time to time. Rather brash and defensive since she knows very well that some people will target you for your inability to stay quiet and motionless since you instead can't sit still and blurt some things just out. The therapy doesn't only include you of course, your family and friends will be forced to join so everyone learns how to behave properly. She believes that with the right therapy, her s/o will be able to live normally.
Sasori
🦂He's quite informed about medical ninjutsu as well and about the human body, but I'd say his limit is there. He's an expert in regards of poison and how to create human puppets so the term ADHD is new for him and that turns into a problem if you don't know yourself that you have ADHD. Sasori isn't violent but he can be quite mean with the words he chooses which means that if you annoy him, and we know that this man has not the best patience, he might end up putting you down. He still has an exceptional intelligence so at one point he will start to suspect that there is something more behind it and since he is a perfectionist he won't stop researching until he has found out what is wrong with his little darling. He prides himself after all in knowing everything about his doll and to keep them pretty.
🦂He is maybe just a slightest bit annoyed with your behavior, tries to keep his tongue tied down though since you don't do this on purpose. Credits to him though since he sincerely attempts to expand his level of patience now because he has to. It isn't only your behavior, it's also the fact that this isn't something he can fix as easily as he could some other things and that bothers him maybe the most. His level of skill isn't enough to help in here which wounds his pride. He isn't a therapist so he can't help you in other ways quite either. Sasori does much though since his darling is his possession and he sees it as his job to take care of them. He doesn't want to alter your entire personality since that makes you so interesting, just enough so he doesn't have to suffer from permanent frustration.
🦂He finds your lack of motivation and interest in his art insulting even if he knows why you are like this. His puppets are his pride though and he finds himself being fond of the thought of explaining the skills of each puppet to you and maybe even teaching you how to create them. He hides it well but he kinda wants the ego boost of having you being all amazed with his skill. Initially he wanted to force you to focus better, gave that up after a while though since it was the closest thing to giving him as a living puppet a headache so he does what he isn't good in: trying to be patient. It's tiring but his attempt alone proves that you mean something to him even if you're slow and constantly forget things of which he has to remind you all the time. Sasori complains quite often about it, somehow he has to let some steam off.
🦂If you are maybe more energetic and hyperactive there is a chance for an increased interest in his art and craftmanship which is a easy way to have him warm up and engage in a good conversation. He hates being interrupted whilst talking or working and here comes the next problem. His darling constantly rambles about things that come randomly to mind and are always moving to the point where he considered tying them up or injecting them with something to help them calm down and relax, he is good in creating poison and medicine after all. It's quite risky to have someone as impulsive running around in his workshop filled with weapons, poison, puppets and bodies. A scratch could literally be lethal and on top of that he'll throw hands if his perfect doll does as much as cut themselves.
Kakashi Hatake
📖He reads lots of books, just not the kind of book that would help him when he is faced with his darling and their disorder. He knows a ton of jutsu but ADHD is something new for him and when he realizes that he knows little about it, he feels sort of ashamed and wounded in his pride as well. Kakashi wants to be able to protect his s/o and take care of them yet he lacks the needed knowledge about ADHD at first which he must have in order to treat you the right way. What the jonin does notice even without the complete knowledge are the couple of symptoms and the special behavior you show which tends to make you stand out so even if he won't be able to instantly assume specifically what it is, he at least has a hunch that something is going on with you.
📖He's quite determined to know what this disorder is about though so days and nights are spent reading books, stalking you and your sessions with your doctor and asking either Sakura or Tsunade about more details. Kakashi has a great memory so he knows about anything he has to know after a while, though the actual handling is something entirely different. Kakashi has the advantage that he is a chill dude though who has a good amount of patience for you, he has his worst experiences with loud or unmotivated kids. There is no denial that he grows significantly more protective over s/o after he knows how some symptoms could lead them to do something that might end in an accident or how some people might look at them the wrong way. Kakashi tolerates none of it.
📖Being unmotivated isn't the biggest problem. Kakashi finds it easier to convince you into staying inside his house where he can just relax with you which satisfies him discreetly. As long as his darling doesn't neglect to take care of their health he doesn't complain as much about it, though since he doesn't do the chore as daily as some others and since his darling loses motivation and interest after a while, the house looks accordingly messy. Both parties seem to be able to live with it though. He can handle just as much the fact that his darling constantly forgets things. It all results in him never really leaving the room you're in though out of the slight fear that your ignorant and inattentive behavior might result in something bad. Pakkun and the other dogs are usually there to remind you of things you have to do.
📖With the more hyperactive type of ADHD comes a little bit more exhaustion from Kakashi's side since he sometimes just wants to relax with you, he's used to it due to a blond student of his though. Kakashi is more careful in here though since you always run back and forth and find yourself unable to stand still, leading to scenarios where your impulsive nature ends in you attempting to do something that isn't safe. Kakashi has his hands full with you and is quite frankly worried that the therapy still won't stop you from doing something really stupid which would be Kakashi's cue to abduct you. He even turns the whole place as safe as he can so you don't even get a real chance to attempt anything. Normally not the very energetic and boisterous person, your personality is quite the contrast.
Deidara
💥Deidara is a worshipper that lacks the sharp eye and medical knowledge that Sasori has so chances are that he will never notice it on his own if his darling doesn’t tell him about it. If they aren’t aware of it either then both parties will just live an oblivious life together, forced or not. The man glorifies his darling and their entire personality, everything is adorable and cute and he remains blind to the flaws since he either doesn’t see them at first or calls them perfect in the end as well. So even if his s/o would sit down with him and explain to him what ADHD exactly is and that they’re diagnosed with it, he wouldn’t see it as a problem or probably just not take it serious. As long as it doesn’t threaten their health seriously and affect them, he doesn’t overreact. He just brushed it off.
💥What’re you talking about? You are perfect in his eyes and that will never change. He doesn’t even want to give you a therapy if you want to continue one. It’s sort of hard for him as an Akatsuki member to find a doctor and to top it, he is against the idea of changing you since he adores you and your traits. It isn’t achieved with much begging or an accident that does hurt you because you couldn’t control your behavior properly that he might consider it. Even then his delusions remain an obstacle since Deidara views himself as your knight in shining armor. As your lover and partner he should protect you and take care of you and everyone who says something against you gets blown up. He doesn’t let things stay with a simple warning like Sasori. You are the finest art in his eyes.
💥He loves his darling so much so even if they’re forgetful, unmotivated and can’t focus properly, he doesn’t mind that much. Sure, he gets sort of pouty and grumpy when his s/o gets distracted whilst he shows them his art but it’s relatively easy to soothe him and he is quick to cool down on his own before he smothers his s/o once again in affection. He is incredibly pushy though and has too much enthusiasm and motivation so he drags his s/o along or does activities he likes together with them, whether they want too or not. Never stops annoying them if they can’t finish the task either. Admittedly, he tries to cheer them on but his inability to realize when enough is enough turns it all quickly annoying. He strikes me as a spontaneous person so there isn’t such a thing as remembering certain things since he comes up with most stuff on the spot.
💥The chemistry with the hyperactive and boisterous type is honestly just perfect though. He is a sucker for their energy which hypes him up even more in return. He does a lot with his darling because of their energy which is infectious. Everyday he has is spend outside and watching fireworks. He doesn’t even really realize or mind the fact that his darling interrupts him or sometimes accidentally shouts at him which might actually be good if s/o feels scared or insecure because of their impulsive behavior. Careful how much you tell him though. Not only will he drown you in his affection, he’ll also bombard a house or two if he has to. Maybe it is because he can be so incredibly alike to his darling that he doesn’t mind at all. The only times he actually stops his darling from doing something is when even he considers it too risky.

I get where you're coming from, but that's kind of the problem? I don't know about the others, but I personally want to do better. The movie studios and tv channels have enough money to do their research yet they refuse. I've got nothing but time, might as well do as much research as possible. There's no way everything will be 100% correct, of course, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't at least try. This doesn't extend fully to other people's works, though. Suspension of disbelief is an existing term. Then again, if there's a glaring mistake that wouldn't even have needed proper research (vikings and horned helmets are my fave example), there's no way I can forgive that. I've thrown out books after such mistakes, fics aren't any different.
idk man, no one is telling you, specifically, not to research. you are also not obligated to read or watch anything you don't want to.
but as you say, suspension of disbelief is a thing and what matters to me in stories is the narrative and the emotional beats. yeah sometimes an error is so glaring it will throw you off beat completely, but more often that not, if deviating from Facts TM makes for a better story, i will happily let it slide. i think many other people are that way too -- my parents are both doctors for example and yet house was our collective favourite show growing up.
i also fully admit it--for me, i have to balance writing against a demanding job so i don't have loads of time for research and i do the bare minimum to get by. but in other instances, and i suspect for many shows and movies, it's not that they are too "lazy" to do research; it's just that sometimes being super factually accurate does not make for the best narrative and they choose to sacrifice the former for the latter and i think thats perfectly fine. 🤷♂️
#you neither have to agree nor read or watch any piece of fictional narrative#to each their own 🤷♂️

Death of the Author is interesting. I agree art can be whatever to anyone for unlimited reasons. Subjectivity is good. I think death of the author has made people just ignore the original intentions though and those are still important. If the author made those curtains blue to invoke this feeling on purpose and someone feels something else entirely. That persons feelings aren't wrong, but don't disregard the authors intention when talking about the curtains entirely.
Considering that the concept exists as a means of preventing limitations in literary criticism—there is not one fixed, “correct” reading of a text based on an author’s life/say-so—yes, absolutely. We should no more fully reject the author’s intentions than we should fully reject interpretations that function counter to their intentions. The point is that they’re all able to exist simultaneously.
For me, what’s significant about authorial intent is that it shouldn’t hold more weight in our minds than the reader’s response (even though it sometimes does). Let’s say the author wrote about blue curtains because they wanted to evoke feelings of sadness… but the reader ends up laughing during the scene. It could be a purely subjective response, you’re the only one who is interpreting the moment “incorrectly,” or it could be an indication that the writer hasn’t achieved their goal. If the writer is in a writing class and says, “I meant to achieve X” and the class responds with “Well, you actually achieved Y,” then that means they need to revise if they still want to have X occur. Intent means nothing when put up against the final product. We see this A LOT in mainstream media, with viewers responding with, “Yeah that twist didn’t land” and “Was that supposed to be funny…?” and instead of acknowledging that their work should have been improved, authors dig in their heels with some version of, “Well that wasn’t my intent, so you all are in the wrong here.” Intent is somehow supposed to act as a replacement for what we actually got, but when it comes to an artistic craft, intentions are only worthwhile if you accurately convey them.
As for the negativity example, that produces even more harmful scenarios than just a joke that didn’t land. Let’s say you write something that’s horrendously racist. You didn’t mean to… but you did. Yes, intent holds some weight here. You can announce to your audience that you were ignorant in this regard, but you obviously still have to do the work of acknowledging the problem, apologizing for the harm you caused, and working to do better in the future. Some creators are great at this and there’s actual growth that we should uphold as examples of how to improve as an author. Others? Not so much. Because they use intention as an excuse rather than an explanation. There’s a difference between, “Whoops! I didn’t mean to bump into you. Sorry about that. I’ll slow down in the future” and “Look. I didn’t mean to bump into you. Why are you mad? Why are you attacking me for something I didn’t mean to do? Get over it!”
Depending on the severity of disconnect between the intention and the end project, I do think people have a right to resentment. If you put something racist into the world, homophobic, ableist, whatever it is we might be dealing with, that’s harmful. And people have the right to react negatively to that harm regardless of whether you consciously intended that outcome or not. In the same way that people have a right to react negatively to a shitty finale, even though every TV writer ever obviously means to create a fantastic one. That’s simply not the product we got, so why should we provide a reaction that doesn’t fit? In the case of things like racism, this is especially true when we consider how many creators hide behind ignorance or straight up lie, claiming they didn’t mean to do something only after there’s a big backlash against it. Resentment is sort of the representative equivalent of someone’s right to be annoyed that you bumped into them and spilled your drink, regardless of whether that act was intentional or not. The emotion is valid and whether you maintain your annoyance or ease into forgiveness depends on those intentions, the severity, and what the person does next.
So for me, authorial intent comes in many varieties. These being just three of the most common. There’s, “Huh. I meant to write it this way, but you interpreted it that way. I see how both can work!” There’s, “You intended to do this…. but you only achieved that. And now it’s hurting the rest of the work in some way.” And there’s, “You say you intended to do this, but you actually did that, hurting a good chunk of your audience in the process. You have to do more than simply state intentions right now.” It’s the latter two that I’m not willing to hand-wave away with, “Well. They didn’t intend it so it’s fine.”

I'm starting to think that Venomous and Shadowy Figure aren't twin brothers but one of them is the turbonic form of Laserblast. It's hard to say for sure which one is the turbo form because while Venomous is similar in personality to Laserblast ( Calm and collected, likes cute animals, romantically attracted to those who show strength. ) it feels like Shadowy Figure is more actively fit, carefree, goofy, and seems to genuinely care for K.O which gives him heroic traits.
I think Venomous and Shadowy Figure are brothers (maybe nottwins), and Shadowy Figure is Laserblast. However, Shadowy isn’tturbo!Laserblast. Which sounds confusing, but I’ll try to explain.
(longish post under the cut)
Coincidences happen all the time in real life. But OK KO isa story, and coincidences don’t happen nearly as often in stories. This storyhas only two purple snake people. Not two prominentpurple snake people, two purple snake people period. And they’re both voiced by Steven Ogg! They’re connected somehow. To fit with the show’s themes of family and identity, they’re either related orthe same person. (If someone can think of a third option that would fit, I’dlove to hear it.)
Ven and Shadowy aren’t the same person. Shadowy is veryfixated on KO and his power. Wouldn’t figuring out how to obtain it be aninteresting and complex project for Ven? But Ven had been dealing withlong-term boredom as of “Boxman Crashes”. Wouldn’t he have at least mentionedbeing frustrated at “not making progress” or being “stuck on a problem”? Thosetwo puzzle pieces don’t fit together.
Also, Shadowy Figure made a huge tactical blunder that wouldn’t have happened if he wasVenomous. When Fink was upset she couldn’t go to the party in “Villain’s Night In”, Ven apologized for disappointing her (via text, but still an apology). Every good parent knows the powerof an apology. And from a strategic standpoint, Shadowy should have apologizedfor hurting KO. I doubt he feels guilty about it, but when has the idea oflying ever stopped people like him? The second time he interacted with KO wasin “Let’s Have a Stakeout”. He acted manipulative, insulted KO, and physicallyattacked him. What if he hadn’t done that? What if he had met KO in the sewersand said, “I’m sorry”?
“KO, I’m sorry for what happened to the Plaza. If I hadknown the true extent of your power I would never have pushed you so hard inthe first place. I wanted to help you, but I wasn’t careful enough and wound uphurting you and many others instead. This is all my fault, and I am so, sosorry.”
Suddenly KO doesn’t feel quite so guilty for wrecking thePlaza, because Shadowy has taken the blame instead. Suddenly this guy isn’t anenemy, but a potential ally who just made a mistake. People forgive KO when hemakes mistakes, shouldn’t he do the same? And so what if Shadowy’s POW cardsays he’s level negative eight? KO’s card obviously isn’t accurate, so maybeShadowy’s isn’t either!
Maybe KO starts to trust Shadowy again, putting him in theideal situation to be manipulated. Carol and Gar and everyone else would thinkhis new friend was evil, so KO can’t tell them he’s visiting Shadowy. Shadowywants to fix this, so maybe it’s okay for him to take a few hair and salivasamples. Both want KO to use this power responsibly, so maybe he’d considerpracticing with it… just a little…
But Shadowy isn’t Venomous, so he messed up and none of thathappened. It would have been so cool, though.
Since Ven and Shadowy are not the same person, they must berelated. I only call them brothers for convenience, they could be cousins orsomething.
Where does Laser fit into this? Well, he’s not dead. Acharacter isn’t confirmed dead if nobody finds the body. And it doesn’t makesense for him to have said “screw this” and gone off to chill on a tropicalisland for the past six to eleven years without letting anyone know he wasokay. He must still be relevant. “Where did Laser go?” and “Where did Shadowycome from?” are questions that easily answer one another.
Both the blue and green orbs activated in the “Let’s Take aMoment” flashback. It’s possible the red orb also activated, removing Laser’spowers. Laser is clearly KO’s father. Children tend to inherit their powersfrom their parents. Shadowy wants KO’s power, but we don’t know the reason. Laserhas a reason, though. Them being the same person would fill in that blank verynicely.
While Shadowy is morecarefree and goofy than Laser, Shadowy isn’t under the pressure of Being a GoodExample, Not Disappointing Foxtail, and Not Blowing His Cover. I’m much morepolite and formal at my job than I am at home. This difference in personalitycan likely be chalked up to a difference in environment. Goofy isn’t inherentlya heroic trait either, Boxman is very goofy but he is absolutely a villain.
I don’t see any evidence for the Laser=Ven idea. While theirpersonalities are similar, it’s possible that’s just due to being raised in thesame environment. Sure, Ven has something to do with turbo power, but hisinterest in KO specifically is minimal, even though KO is apparently a sourceof it. He doesn’t seem to prioritize antagonizing KO over Rad or Enid. He hasno reason to attack the Plaza or its members other than to have fun withBoxman. We haven’t seen him interact with or comment on Carol. His opinion onP.O.I.N.T. seems to be wholly negative instead of wistful or bittersweet. Therearen’t enough strings linking the two for me to think they’re the same person.
Laserblast is Shadowy Figure, and that person is Venomous’brother. “Shadowblast” wants KO’s power so he can restore his own. But thepower he wants isn’t just turbo power. In “Boxman Crashes”, Venbecame more snakelike when he lost his temper. Ven has shapeshifting abilities, but he doesn’t use them a lot because he fights with science instead of hisbody. His brother Shadowy may have also had shapeshifting abilities. But sinceShadowy is a physical fighter, hewould have had more incentive to train and improve his powers.
Perhaps he got so good at shapeshifting he could change intoa human form?
And that is where“Laserblast” comes from. No turbo power, no two identities housed in one body, just regular-ass shapeshifting and a whole lot of lies.
KO’s eyes are typically brown (like Carol’s?), but have beenred, purple, both, or a mix when influenced by turbo power.
Maybe Shadowy hadpurple eyes and tried to change them to red to match Laser’s visor beam, butcouldn’t do it fully? Laser always hid his eyes because one was stuck atpurple. We could see this heterochromia in modern day Shadowy and that will beThe Big Reveal.
But why wouldShadowy undergo such a dramatic change for such a long period of time?
My theory is that Ven and Shadowy are from a formerlypowerful villain family. Shadowy had a mission to infiltrate P.O.I.N.T., butcouldn’t complete it because he lost his powers and permanently reverted to hisoriginal form (except possibly for his red eye). His failure disgraced thefamily. Ven often wears a hat and glasses in public and Shadowy Figure wears ahood because they don’t want to be recognized as members of the disgracedfamily.
Shadowy wants his powers back so he doesn’t have to sneakaround everywhere. Perhaps he even wants to become Laser again, to make up astory about why he was gone so long and return to his former friends. Cob knowshis family won’t take him back.
Shadowy had major shapeshifting abilities, while Carol hasnone. This gives KO minor shapeshifting abilities. Because the abilities are sominor (and possibly because he doesn’t know he has them), they only manifestwhen boosted by turbo power. We can see this in “You’re Level 100”, when KO wasusing turbo power before TKO had fully formed. His eyes, teeth, and claws areclearly different.
KO’s minor shifting powers with enough turbonic energyshould get Shadowy back to his original ability level.
“But David!” you ask. “If Shadowy’s power is onlyshapeshifting, then where does KO’s turbo power come from?”
It comes from Carol. And I know that sounds like a reach, but hear me out. Carol can mimic any combat move she sees. We see this mostoften when she copies Gar’s signature move. But it’s not your standard elbowattack- it also emits a pink energy. This suggests Carol could mimic otherenergy emitting moves.
Remember that turbo collar Ven made for Fink? It worked very well! The only reason it stopped was because it ran out of power. There weren’t any glitches or malfunctions. That means it probably isn’t the first iteration of this project. Perhaps he’s had prototypes for years and years, but hardly made useof them because he a) didn’t have a stable glorb supply, b) doesn’t dohand-to-hand combat himself, and/or c) didn’t trust anyone he might have beenworking with to use it. But he let Fink have it because she’s loyal and theynow have access to Boxman’s glorbs.
The tree under the Plaza is a source of glorbs. Presumablythere’s another one somewhere else underground, as suggested by the glorbcluster Gar sealed up in “GarQuest”. There are likely more of them scatteredacross the world. If we’ve noticedthe similarity between glorbs and the colored orbs, P.O.I.N.T. may have too.Carol’s new outfit in the “GarQuest” flashback suggests she still did somenon-secret hero work after Laser’s death, presumably until she realized she waspregnant. I think she was sent on a mission to make sure a glorb tree didn’tfall under villain control, and got in a fight when she arrived; perhapsagainst Venomous himself, perhaps against someone he used to test the collar on.If Carol fought a collar-powered villain while in a glorb-rich environment, shecould have used her ability to temporarily go turbo herself.
Which could do odd things to a fetus.
While KO has a weaker version of his father’s power, he alsohas a weaker version of his mother’s. “Copycat” becomes “Imprint”. He can copyan energy-emitting ability… but only once, and then he’s stuck with it.Normally he wouldn’t have been able to do this until after he was born, butsince he was essentially soaked inturbo power, he imprinted early.
This would explain why his standard power fist is blue- it’sthe color of a normal glorb. Only under special circumstances can he use theturbo version. It might also be why PKO’s headband and wristbands are blue.
That’s why Carol has no fucking clue what’s going on withher kid. It wasn’t a particularly memorable mission, and she was focused on hergrief. She has no reason to connect it to KO’s situation six to eleven yearslater. Maybe now that Foxtail’s done a heel face turn we can get access to someold mission files.
I’d say, “this is a bit complex for a children’s cartoon”,but Gravity Falls and Steven Universe pulled off some wild shit. It couldhappen!
This was probably way more of a reply than either of us were expecting, haha. But that’s my take on things! Y’all are welcome to bring up new evidence, alternate theories, corrections, etc.
