I was reading Brightest Night and I noticed how Sunny describes Smolder’s voice as sarcastic-sounding, even if he’s not necessarily being sarcastic. Idk I thought it was funny 😅

I honestly dislike that one ABLEIST quote that Smolder said within Book 5, The Brightest Night.

And if you don’t know what quote I’m talking about, I completely understand why, since it’s possibly and/or maybe quite a minor quote that occurred within the series.

Within Chapter 10 of The Brightest Night, Sunny and Smolder walk next to and see a taxidermy Toothless and Clawless MudWing.

And when Sunny asked what happened to him, Smolder reply to her is…this:

““The seller said his egg was animus touched.” Smolder said. “Or rather, animus cursed. Some kind of vengeance thing maybe.

❗️Who would want a dragonet without claws or teeth? How could he live? He was destined to end up here eventually.”” ❗️-Page 106, TBN.

Like, I get that Smolder possibly has this mindset towards disabled dragons like this MudWing due to the fact that the majority of the dragon tribes probably and/or possibly became a war-based society by fighting within the SandWing Succession War-

But the fact that Smolder stated that a disabled dragon is literally DESTINED to literally DIE and become a TAXIDERMY dragon within Burn’s Weirdling Tower because of the fact that Smolder can NOT image or believe that ANYONE would ever want or love them and that they wouldn’t EVER be able to live a happy life solely because of the fact that they’re disabled, honestly feels quite ICKY and even ABLEIST point of view to have.

And what really upsets me about this is that quote is NOT corrected and/or shown to be a INACCURATE and/or INCORRECT thing to state within the writing.

It’s instead is used as a plot point within Sunny’s character Arc, making Sunny think that she could be “useless” and be destined to become a taxidermy dragon too, and wonder if her being animus touched is the reason why she looks so “weird”.

But it’s written in a way that the character(s) and/or even the writing itself do NOT ADRESS IT as a BAD, or even NEGATIVE thing to state about that - and ANY - dragon with a severe disability.

So the fact that Smolder said a literal ableist quote, that wasn’t addressed by a character and/or the writing as a bad or negative statement, honestly quite irritates me.

Please note though that while I am neurodivergent, I’m NOT physically disabled, so if there’s anyone who reads this who is physically disabled, feel free to inform people by adding your input about this confession and whether or not it’s flawed, bad, or incorrect in any way.

I remember when I was first reading the first WoF ark and thinking of why sunny was different from the other sand wings. So here’s my old theory

So I thought her father was Smolder and he was having a secret relationship with a skywing, which would explain why she’s so yellow. The skywing would fly from the sky kingdom just to see smolder, but when she got pregnant she began to question how safe her relationship is with the brother of Burn ( her being very adamant about “sandwing purity”)and if it would be a good idea to bring a child into it. So she decided to cut things off with Smolder before he found out. She flew one last time to Smolder to tell him they were breaking up and on the way back she ended up laying her egg in the desert. She decides to leave it there to save herself future questions on why her child looks different and who’s the father. She also doesn’t want to bring up her child while Scarlet was queen and was working with Burn and feared the possibility that her child would be found and killed. She might had also did the math and found out her egg was due on the brightest night. Wich would mean her egg wouldn’t even get the chance to hatch in the skykingdom

I also thought if this was true, then Sunny would find out she was a princess and would name herself queen to stop the war. But she would know that she wouldn’t make for a good queen so her first order as queen was to make Thorn queen.(at least I kinda got that right lol)

Don't remember what the fuck I was on when I made this wof headcannon.

Smolder lives a secret double life where he runs a steak house, and puts on live performances while he cooks the steak that he sells. Idk if you know what jenpachi is but it's basically that but Chinese food. And its pretty cool.

But yeah he basically puts on a performance while cooking peoples food in front of them.

i finished the guide book. Not nearly enough MudWing lore, but what we got was great so that’s good!

but my favorite section was the Smolder and Rose section, and him being so depressed but finding the will to live to keep Rose alive. Because like, yeah man, I get it. I related to that haaarrrrd. Keeping my pets or friends going has kept me going before.

The more I think about it, the more I believe Thorn x Onyx would be a good ship because it’s compelling but mostly because it would be hilarious. Imagine being Smolder and you’re falling in love with the new SandWing queen and then one day out of the blue your secret daughter shows up, tries to kill her, fails epically, lives in the palace as a freeloader for a while, and then somewhere along the line steals your girl right from under your nose. How humbling.
