THAT ONE TIME NOOTHGRUSH WROTE A SONG ABOUT THE GALAXY'S MOST INFAMOUS TORTURE DROID.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on 8D8 as he appeared in "STAR WARS: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi," also spelled Atedeeate, was an 8D smelter droid manufactured by the Verpine Roche hive, and who was later completely reprogrammed to serve as a dedicated torturer of both droids and organics.
[VERSE 1]:
"Free from the shackles and the double suns, the torture droid scopes out a new domain. Millenia pass and its search goes on for a planet on which to create a world of pain. It spies a sphere, number three of nine, filled with so much life to be enslaved. Unsuspecting, the creatures below are in for a punishment from which they cannot be saved.
[VERSE 2]:
These creatures think they have technology and try to thwart this new robotic plague. With angry screams and glowing eyes, the anti-hero is thrown into a rage. It sends more troops to enslave the world; machines of which the creatures never could have dreamed. As the superscience defeats the beings, the droid delights in hearing their tortured screams.
[END]:
Torn to failure (x2)!! torn to failure, burned into ash, the enemy hesitates, but still we come in last. Man's last hope is to fall."

A war is an ecological disaster as much as it is any of the other kinds. When it is over, when they win, when the Republic becomes the Empire and begins to inflict its peace across the galaxy -
There's an army of men, bought and paid for, that it doesn't need. Can't demobilise or repatriate. Battle droids you can wipe and recycle. Men? Not so much. Especially the ones that are injured too badly to make it as stormtroopers and not badly enough to not be a threat if they chose to organise themselves against the Empire.
In the years of their fighting they have left a considerable mess behind them, across Christophis, Felucia, Geonosis. Convenient, then, fitting, that they're the ones who get to clean it up, ammunition dumps and burnt-out hulks and UXO and the accretions disks of dead capital ships with the frozen corpses of their dead brothers amidst the rest. Exploded buildings and rubble and twisted beams and jagged skyscrapers like broken teeth. Shipbreakers and smelters.
The Empire skimps on their protective gear. Alternatively it is fiscally responsible by mandating contracts are awarded to the lower bidder. Whatever the reason, the clones die to UXO, to vacuum, to dormant commando droids. Not many people care; at least they're being useful. Might has well get all the use out of them while they can.
Some deaths take longer; fine dust to scar up their lungs, or improperly stored tibanna rotting through the tanks to pollute the soil. Felucia's microbes slowly wending their up the spinal cord to erupt in the brain years later.
So they're broken up into smaller groups. Ground down by attrition and exhaustion. Some desert. Some find a place among established scavenger crews. Many die, and their deaths are logged in Imperial spreadsheets by Imperial bureaucrats who go home to their loving families and think nothing of it.
#inspired by finding out there are WWII ships with UXO rotting away in the Thames estuary#and burn pits and the dust of DU and trenches dug in into the soil of Chernobyl#and the Empire needing to do something with demobbed clones#no home to send them to but don't want them to organise#or anyone to organise behind them#use them up and throw them away#post clone wars#what happened to the clones#only the dead know the end of the war#headcanon#meta

There are entire books of fluff dedicated to ultra specific and objectively shitty droids, especially the ones that appear in only a single memorable scene.
"Yeah, this is the KKWWSS Deconstrocteur 01; nicknamed the Fratricide droid. It exists to break down recyclable materials and toss them in smelters. It was programmed to feel better about itself every time it scraps another droid. It's the only droid ever made by Kronk & Khlesk'ss World Waste Solution Systems. KKWWSS is also the company that manufactured the garbage compactors on the Death Star."
Star Wars is truly at its peak when the droids are practical and semi-shitty looking which is honestly just to say that I get an instant boost of serotonin when a gonk droid shows up
Look at this thing it sucks and I love it

Fennec Shand listening to Boba Fett speak with 8D8, a repurposed smelter droid/protocol droid, in the palace on Tatooine. Image from The Book of Boba Fett, Season 1, Episode 3, The Streets of Mos Espa. Calendar by DataWorks.
Grogu thought about that question. What kind of leader would he be? Would he be fair and kind and thoughtful? Would he be humble, a good listener, willing to take action when it was required? Would he share with everyone? Would he help people, even his enemies, to be better and happier? He didn’t know. It wasn’t a mystery or even a puzzle. He had never considered himself a leader and if he was being brutally honest, he’d never noticed anyone but ex-Imps following him anywhere.
Because that was really the thing about being a leader. You can’t be one if no one follows you. You could certainly be a scout or an adventurer. You could be a lot of things, good or bad. But leaders require followers and that was always the problem. What kind of followers would Grogu attract?
Would they be kind? Smart? Funny? Or would they just want to use him for whatever they could get from him? That certainly seemed to be why bounty hunters and a particular flavor of ex-Imperial War Lord followed him around.
That made him wonder if he was Din Djarin’s leader or if it was the other way around? Certainly the Mandalorian had found him on Arvala-7. Then he’d brought Grogu back to Nevarro and handed him off to someone else. The people who had been following him almost everywhere, although they obviously hadn’t worked out that he was on Arvala-7, which didn’t make a lot of sense. But are all followers the same? Probably not.
Certainly the Mandalorian wasn’t. He came back and collected Grogu and they left the other bounty hunters behind. Then they left more bounty hunters behind. Then they left people from the Mandalorian’s past behind. Then, they left both other Mandalorians and whole lot more ex-Imps behind.
So traveling together isn’t really the same as being a leader or a follower with some minor exceptions. Grogu was never given an option of which planet they should head for, which tended to favor the notion that the Mandalorian was the leader. On the other hand, the selections had all been about protecting Grogu as much as possible, which tended to favor that notion that he was the leader, because followers tended to protect their leaders from all manner of harm.
That was certainly the case with Fennec Shand and Boba Fett. Fennec protected the Daimyo from all sorts of bad actors. The assassin sent by the Hutts. The assassin sent by the former mayor of Mos Espa. The Pyke syndicate because they wanted to continue to run spice through Tatooine. Their followers who happened to be all over Mos Espa. But then the Daimyo had to protect himself from that other bounty hunter, Cad Bane. Fennec was busy with other things, as was his dad, who was kind of following the Daimyo, but not really following him. It was strange.
The Mandalorian had found the Daimyo’s armor on Tatooine. Marshal Vanth had it. In trade for dealing with that Krayt dragon that was terrorizing the town, Vanth gave it to Din Djarin. Apparently Boba Fett found out about it from the Tuskens or somehow, who knew, but then they made a deal over it on Tython when the ex-Imps sent the Dark Troopers after Grogu and then fought with the two Mandalorians and Fennec. Because Boba Fett hadn’t been successful at protecting Grogu he felt like he owed something to Grogu’s protector. Of course Grogu didn’t know that because he was playing Toss ’n Imp on Moff Gideon’s ship.
When they cam back and rescued him with help from Cara Dune and Bo-Katan, Grogu figured the debts were all paid, but they weren’t. The Mandalorian convinced him to go to Luke’s Jedi Sleep Away Camp and then, somehow, ended up back on Tatooine, helping the Daimyo and getting Marshal Vanth and the fine people of Freetown to help as well.
Now they were all together and it was clear that Daimyo Fett, Fennec, CobbVanth, Grogu’s dad, and even Bo-Katan, were each leaders in their own ways. Grogu knew he’d rather follow Fett than Kryze, but in the meantime he was just going to stick with his dad who seemed to be a master in his own right at both following and leading. If Grogu was going to be a leader he wanted to be that kind. The kind where people didn’t even realize they were following you while you walked along beside them. That was the Way.

8D8 was an 8D smelter droid owned by Jabba the Hutt. Originally designed to work in smelting facilities, 8D8 was modified for use as a starship repair droid before coming into the Hutt’s possession. The insectoid verpine who manufactured the droid line designed them to resemble the Muun species, creating a somewhat intimidating, emaciated droid. Reprogrammed by EV-9D9, 8D8 became a sadistic torturer, working with both organics and other droids.

Star Wars Alien Species - Verpine
The Roche asteroid field, sometimes known simply as Roche, was a series of asteroids colonized by the Verpine, including Nickel One (the capital), Slayn, Korpil, Roche G42, and Shantipole.
The Verpine people did not evolve in the asteroids of the Roche system. Each inhabited asteroid was only made livable through the creation of artificial, self-sustaining environments in the interior. Some observers thought that the Roche asteroids were the remains of a Verpine homeworld which had broken up either slowly through natural forces, or suddenly as a result of a catastrophic civil war. Others theorized that the Verpine were descended from extra-galactic nomads who settled in the Roche asteroid field. The Verpine simply told outsiders that they did not know of the location of their original homeworld.
Whether it was due to the after-effects of this ancient civil war, or because of the political uniformity and egalitarianism of their civilization, the Verpine were a peaceful people, expert arbitrators who preferred compromise to conflict. The large insects had long been a spacefaring race and had colonized the Roche asteroid belts before the Old Republic was born.
By the time of the Jedi Civil War, the Verpine were part of the Galactic community. High-quality Verpine-manufactured items ranging from ion blasters to cardio-regulators were widely used. Some of these designs were adapted and improved from other species, such as the Bothans or the Arkanians. Contemporary rumors were suspicious of the Verpine, however. Extrapolating from the Verpine practice of testing ion blasters on active droids, some Verpine weapons and medical technology were thought to have been tested on live sentients.
In later years, Verpine engineering was exemplified by the starship manufacturer Slayn & Korpil, which built the famous V-19 Torrent starfighter for the Galactic Republic and the B-wing starfighter for the Rebel Alliance. Their shipbuilding skills were attributed to the need to produce vessels which could safely navigate the Roche asteroids. The Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines, more commonly known simply as "Roche", was a Verpine-owned droid manufacturer which met with limited success with models like the 8D smelter droid and the J9 worker drone.
During the Galactic Civil War, the Verpine were openly sympathetic towards the Rebel Alliance. However, they did not officially join the Rebellion as a whole, partly due to their natural pacifistic idealism, and partly due to the Imperial "advisors" posted in their system. After the Empire fell, however, the Verpine became supporters of the New Republic, with a close relationship with its military.
In 8 ABY, the Verpines broke a number of contracts with the Barabels to produce starships. They claimed that a "mad" hive mother had taken the ships, and given the nature of their society they were under no obligation to retrieve the ships. The Barabels did not see it in the same light, and began negotiating with Kubaz chefs for the sale of Verpine body parts to use in their cuisine. In response to this, the New Republic planned to send Leia Organa Solo to mediate the situation. The situation deteriorated rapidly when a Barabel ship was discovered with frozen Verpine parts. A fleet was sent to avert a war between the species, and Mon Mothma herself traveled to mediate.
During the Swarm War, some Verpine who were addicted to the Gorog Nest's black membrosia acted on the side of the Killiks, including procuring B-wings and Verpine shatter guns for the Killik forces. The Killiks attempted to invade the Verpine capital asteroid, Nickel One, and overthrow their government. The attempt was foiled by the actions of the Jedi Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker and Jacen Solo.
During the Second Galactic Civil War, the Verpine accused the people of Murkhana of breaking trade agreements by producing technology similar to theirs. They signed a non-aggression pact with the Mandalorians because of their fear that the Mandalorians would expand their borders once again and invade Verpine territory. The treaty was simple: the Mandalorians would supply their best export, military strength, while the Verpines would supply defense technology and quality control.
This agreement was later put to the test when Imperial Remnant forces allied with Darth Caedus attacked the Verpine's home system in an attempt to gain control of their technology. The Mandalorians rushed to their aid and, with the help of Jedi Jaina Solo, the Mandalorians fought to defend the system.
Following their experiences with Imperial attacks, the Verpine developed the IX-6 heavy combat droid to aid in their defense of the asteroid settlements. Sometime after the establishment of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire in 130 ABY, Roche was ordered by Imperial officials to immediately cease the production of the IX-6 and destroy all existing models. Unwilling to succumb to the Empire, Verpine spread the factories throughout the Roche asteroid belt, hiding them deep in the asteroids which appeared abandoned from the surface. When the Empire learned of the defiance, a fleet of Star Destroyers blasted several heavily populated Verpine asteroids to dust. The massacre, however, did not break the will of the Verpine species and Roche continued to produce new IX-6 and smuggle them to anyone who could afford them.
Verpine were thin bipedal insectoids. Unlike many insectoids, including the Kibnon to which they were distantly related, the Verpine had only four limbs (two arms and two legs), though there were instances of Verpine growing vestigial wings. Their heads were dominated by large compound eyes. They also had two antennae, one located behind each eye. Their hardened carapace, composed of a green chitinous substance called carahide, was as flexible as the skin of other creatures, yet tough enough to deflect a blade or even absorb a glancing blaster bolt. The Verpine circulatory system did not contain a heart — at least, not an organ which Human physiologists would identify as a heart.
Verpine eyes were keen enough to pick out microscopic details. Their antennae contained tympanic nerves which picked up sound. Their antennae were also sensitive to radio waves, giving Verpine the natural ability to sense and transmit radio waves to communicate with another Verpine in their language over distances on the order of one hundred kilometers. Some observers mistook this nearly instant, silent communication for true telepathy. Thanks to their natural radio communication network, their colonies were run as a consensus democracy, with all Verpine instantly consulted on questions affecting the hive.
Given their reliance on radio communication, Verpine frequently suffered negative consequences when their antenna were damaged. While researching the Verpine, Leia Organa noticed that virtually all Verpine criminals suffered from a set of damaged antenna.
Verpine came in two types—intelligent, hermaphroditic Verpine and unintelligent worker drones. At the time of their entrance into Galactic society, only five percent of Verpine were intelligent, but the demands of technological civilization required the Verpine to restructure their society. After the change, egg-laying Verpine used a special enzyme to ensure all eggs laid developed into intelligent Verpine. Any drones needed by a Verpine hive were produced via cloning.
When a Verpine hive needed more members, some of the fertile Verpine would be asked to lay eggs, while others would be assigned to fertilize them. The eggs were cared for in colony incubators, and hatchlings were cared for by the entire hive.
Some individual Verpine had genders, either throughout their lifespan or at some point of their existences. A "hive mother" communicated with Jedi Leia Organa Solo during the Swarm War, and mentioned "male warriors." General Airen Cracken referred to Moegid as "he" in his reports.
The fungus Magenge, which grew inside the asteroid colonies of the Verpine, formed the basis of the Verpine diet.
A typical Verpine stands at 1.9 meters or 6.2 feet tall and weighs 60 kilograms or 132 pounds.
Verpines age at the following stages:
1 - 4 Child
5 - 9 Young Adult
10 - 40 Adult
41 - 60 Middle Age
61 - 80 Old
Examples of Names: Garginoolaara, Jurfel, Kyli Ned'lx, Suskafoo, Zix, Zraii.
Languages: Verpine was the native language of the Verpine species.
Although Verpine language was usually spoken, Verpine could also use radio waves to communicate with other Verpine in their language.
Most Verpine were fluent in both Verpine language and Basic, although they were only literate in their own language.

THE MANDALORIAN - A TIMELINE Assumptions this post will make: - It’s possible that they’ll throw out canon/contradict something that’s been established up to this point (I’m hoping not, as Dave Filoni is one of the main people who oversaw the creation of that canon, but it’s still a possibility!), especially as Favreau has mentioned that he wants to recanonize some Legends stuff, but for now we’re assuming canon is canon and they’re going to work with that. This is a post that is focused on what canon and creators of canon have said! - Din Djarin is ~44 years old, as a reflection of Pedro Pascal’s age. - Out-of-universe, Star Wars’ timeline is referred to by BBY / ABY (Before the Battle of Yavin / After the Battle of Yavin) because that’s when the Death Star was blown up/the Rebellion battled the Empire over Yavin IV, which was because A New Hope was the central compass point as the very first SW movie. However, this timeline will focus on The Mandalorian season 1 as Year 0, as I think that’ll make it clearer how everything relates to this show. THE TIMELINE SO FAR: 50 Years Ago - The Child (Baby Yoda) was born, Anakin Skywalker was born in the same year 41 Years Ago - The Phantom Menace ?? Years Ago - The Mandalorian Civil War. There was an insurgency against Satine Kryze’s rule of Mandalore, which eventually required the intervention of the Republic, by sending two Jedi (Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi) to protect her, causing them to go on the run for a year. Obi-Wan later describes this as, "An extended mission when I was younger. Master Qui-Gon and I spent a year on Mandalore protecting the Duchess from insurgents who had threatened her world. They sent bounty hunters after us. We were always on the run, living hand-to-mouth, never sure what the next day would bring. A civil war killed most of Satine's people, hence her aversion to violence. When she returned, she took rebuilding her world alone." Whether he means that the people loyal to Satine were killed or nearly all of Mandalore was killed, it’s hard to say. (Presumably the latter?)
31 Years Ago - Attack of the Clones, the Clone Wars begin, Kamino’s clone army is discovered, they become part of the Republic, which may tie into Dr. Pershing’s arm patch symbol likely being the Kamino emblem.
~31-28 Years Ago - The flashbacks we see in The Mandalorian are likely to take place during the Clone Wars, that the people were attacked by Separatists (hence the Super Battle Droids we see being used) and were rescued by Mandalorians, adopting Din Djarin as a Foundling, raising him in the Fighting Corps. Din would have likely been around 10+ years old? At least one of the Mandalorians in the flashback was wearing a Death Watch symbol, but it’s unclear how the politics of this were going, since they’re fighting Separatists in the flashback and it’s unclear precisely when Pre Vizsla joined with Dooku and the Separatists. (Separatist alliances shifted all the time, so this isn’t hard to work with!)
~31-28 Years Ago - Death Watch, a Mandalorian splinter group, publicly arises as a protest against Satine’s pacifist ways and determination that Mandalore leave behind its warrior past. They bomb targets in the city of Sundari and work with the Separatists to try to kill Duchess Kryze and put their own leader into place on Mandalore proper. Pre Vizsla of Clan Vizsla is the governor of Concordia (a moon of Mandalore), voiced by Jon Favreau, secretly leads the Death Watch and reveals that he has the darksaber when he fights against Obi-Wan Kenobi after its revealed that Pre is part of Death Watch. (Clan Vizsla is one of the most central Clans of Mandalore.) They are not successful in their plot (to have the Republic Senate forcefully invade Mandalore under the threat of Death Watch/the rumor of Mandalore joining the Separatists) and remain neutral in the Clone Wars. It’s also later revealed (a few months later/a season later) that Bo-Katan Kryze, Satine’s sister, is a lieutenant in Death Watch.
28 Years Ago - Darth Maul creates his own Shadow Collective (an alliance of various criminal organizations) by allying with Death Watch and taking over Mandalore. Duchess Satine Kryze is murdered by Maul as part of his takeover of Mandalore/his revenge against Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as Pre Vizsla is killed by Maul when they disagree over the direction/who is leading Mandalore. Maul takes the darksaber. 28 Years Ago - Fenn Rau, as part of Skull Squadron of the Protectors (a group of Mandalorian royal guards), assisted the Jedi in the Clone Wars, including helping out in a fight with Jedi Master Depa Billaba and Padawan Caleb Dume (Kanan Jarrus). 28 Years Ago - The Clone Wars are nearing the end, the Siege of Mandalore happens at the same time as ROTS/Order 66, this is referenced as “The Night of a Thousand Tears” by Moff Gideon, “when gunships outfitted with similar ordnance (to the e-web cannon) laid waste to fields of Mandalorian recruits in the Night of a Thousand Tears”. He doesn’t say who the gunships belonged to, if they were Republic gunships or Maul’s Shadow Collective gunships or something else.
The Siege of Mandalore is basically: Darth Maul has set himself up as leader of Mandalore, so Ahsoka Tano and a battalion of clones (including Captain Rex) lead a mission to retake the planet. While they’re in the middle of this mission, Order 66 happens, where the clones’ inhibitor chips have them turning on the Jedi, including Ahsoka though she is no longer officially a Jedi. During/after this huge shitshow, Bo-Katan Kryze is appointed Regent of Mandalore. 28 Years Ago - Revenge of the Sith, the Republic fell, the Empire rose, the Jedi Order was genocided basically out of existence. 11 Years Ago - The Ghost crew discover Maul hiding out, who still has the darksaber, and they retrieve it. Sabine Wren (of Clan Wren) briefly trains with it, but struggles to decide how to proceed with it and her contentious relationship with her family. Fenn Rau (governor of Concord Dawn, as appointed by the Empire) explains the history behind the darksaber to Kanan Jarrus, that a thousand years ago (give or take) the first Mandalorian Jedi was named Tarre Vizsla who created it as his weapon, that it stayed with the Jedi until a few decades ago, Clan Vizsla stole into the Jedi Temple and took it back, as it was a symbol of House Vizsla and had the power to unite the Clans/Houses in the right hands.
10 Years Ago - Sabine Wren rallies her family into deciding to fight back against the Empire’s occupation of Mandalore and gives the darksaber to an initially reluctant Bo-Katan Kryze. Leaders of several clans of Mandalore swear allegiance to her and they vow to fight the Empire, after many years of living under Imperial rule.
9 Years Ago - A New Hope, Alderaan was destroyed, the Death Star was destroyed, also the events of Rogue One happened. 6 Years Ago - The Empire Strikes Back 5 Years Ago - Return of the Jedi, the Second Death Star destroyed, Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader died, Yoda died, formation of the New Republic 4 Years Ago - The Battle of Jakku, which is the final giant battle between the New Republic and the Empire, where they officially lost (see: Star Wars Battlefront II for the story) 0 Years Ago - The Mandalorian, season 1 THINGS I’M NOT SURE WHERE TO PLACE ON THE TIMELINE: - Din and the other Mandalorians have cultural differences from the Mandalorians we’ve seen up to this point. The tradition of being unable to take their helmet off, lest they cannot put it back on, doesn’t match up with what we see of Pre Vizsla in The Clone Wars, who was the leader of Death Watch, rather than Satine’s New Mandalorians who were pacifists. This also strongly contrasts what we see of Bo-Katan Kryze (who was affiliated with Death Watch) and Sabine Wren (along with her family, who all took off/put on their helmets). Is this a splinter group? Is it different for people who were born Mandalorian vs Foundlings who must prove themselves? Something else? - Satine says that Jango Fett was not Mandalorian, but a regular bounty hunter and she didn’t know how he acquired the armor. Out of universe, Pablo Hidalgo has supported this, but that was years ago and canon evolves over time. Dave Filoni has also talked about how, as far back as Attack of the Clones, George Lucas intended for Jango to not actually be Mandalorian. THE BIG QUESTION MARKS: - Paz Vizla’s name is spelled without the “s” in the credits, is this a reference to the different spelling as used in SWTOR? Or is it a typo? Favreau has been re-canonizing some Legends things, but also the credits for Chapter 5 have “Tuskan Raider”, which is a typo of “Tusken”, so typos are a thing in the credits. - The Great Purge isn’t clearly set within the timeline yet. It does not seem to be the same thing as the Siege of Mandalore or Order 66, because it’s too significantly tied to the Empire.
While the Empire was being created during those moments and it’s possible that Paz Vizla was referring to something that happened in the aftermath of the Siege of Mandalore, something big enough to referred to separately, it might also very well refer to something that happened after Bo-Katan Kryze received the darksaber and united Mandalore against the Empire, as we don’t know how that fight happened, and may little comments in The Mandalorian indicate that seeing Mandalorians is very rare these days. Last we saw them, when Sabine talks about the Imperial Academy on Mandalore or when we see House Wren’s interaction with the other Clans, they don’t seem to be that rare. Paz Vizla says, “Our strength was once in our numbers. Now we live in the shadows and only come above ground one at a time. Our world was shattered by the Empire, with whom this coward shares tables.” and “These were cast in an Imperial smelter. These are the spoils of the Great Purge. The reason that we live hidden like sand rats.“ Unless they are a splinter group, Mandalorians didn’t live hidden away 10 years ago in the events of Rebels.

The Sin (1/1)
A/N: this is probably the shortest chapter in the series since in this one the reader was pissed at Mando and left him.
The ride back was silent, Mando didn’t say anything to you and you didn’t say anything to him. You felt rather awkward that the situation escalated like that but you didn’t change your mind this was wrong...
Suddenly a button started ringing Mando presses a button and you see a hologram of Karga come up “Mando, Y/N. I’ve received your transmission. Wonderful news. Upon your return deliver the quarry directly to the client.” Karga lets out a chuckle “I have no idea if he wants to eat it or hang it on his wall, but he’s very antsy.”
You glance over and see the child touch one of the controls of the ship it’s probably interested in the ball you thought. You let out a soft chuckle as you watched it “safe passage! You know where to find me.” Mando turns off the hologram.
He notices your gaze looking at something, he follows your gaze and sees the child chewing on something “it’s not a toy.” He says before taking it away from the child.
You watch as Mando picks up the child from its hood before placing it back inside its carrier, you felt your heart grow heavy you didn’t want to give it to the client.
The child coos as its gaze meets yours, you smile before turning around you watch as the planet approach as Mando pushes a few buttons.
Finally he lands the ship “lets go.” He finally says to you, you quickly rush outside you didn’t want to go with him to see the client it was driving your insane how he couldn’t see how wrong this was!
Before you could make it outside the ship you felt Mando yank on your wrist making you face him.
“You’ve been acting strange.” He says to you. You let out a snarky chuckle “I just don’t want to go with you that’s all.” You tried breaking free from him but continued to hold your wrist “why?”
“You know why.”
“Because of the child? What made you change your mind?” He kept asking you questions and it only drove you more insane you finally yanked away from him.
Never once have you gotten pissed at Mando, you two always did stuff together without hesitation because you two were just great friends like that but.. now ever since you both met this child it basically drove a rift between the two of you.
“Because this is wrong Mando!” You shout at him as he continued to stare at you “this is the way.” He only says as he waits for your responses.
Your fingers trembled as you held back every curse word you could think of to call him “no that’s your way.. not mine.” You say before walking away from him, of course you’d always be there for Mando he’s.. special to you.
But this time you couldn’t stand by him you could only hope that Mando would make the right choice.
You walked away from Mando, and he watched you leave the child whimpered sadly as it looked up at Mando “she’s not coming back..” he mumbled before starting to walk inside the town.
The child stared at everything it saw, it cooed as it looked up at Mando but he didn’t look back down at it. Mando’s mind kept thinking of the things you said his eyes scanned around the town but didn’t see you.
Mando arrived to where the client’s base was, he knocked on the door as a droid popped out from a hole and asked Mando for something, Mando pulled out something and showed it to the droid who scanned it.
The droid went back inside the hole as the door finally unlocked, stormtroopers walked outside before looking down at the child who only lowered its ears.
One of the stormtroopers walked inside as Mando followed behind him the second stormtrooper followed behind Mando as the door closed behind them.
As they walked inside the stormtrooper in front pulled on the child’s carrier “easy with that.” Mando says in a threatening voice “you take it easy.” The stormtrooper barked back at Mando.
The door opened to reveal the client and the doctor, the client quickly got up as he picked up a tracking fob “yes!” He said happily as he walked over to the child.
The tracking fob beats rapidly as he gets closer to the child “yes! Yes! Yes!” Mando watches as the two men watched the child in fascination “yes.” The client said again as the doctor pulled out something to examine the child.
The bright red light reflected against Mando’s helmet as it scanned the child, the doctor smiled “very healthy. Yes.” The client looked up at Mando before giving him a confused glance.
“Where is your comrade?” He asked Mando, Mando looked down “she’s.. somewhere.” The client didn’t say anything before moving onto something else “your reputation was not unwarranted.”
“How many tracking fobs did you give out?” Mando bluntly asked him “this asset was of extreme importance to me I had to ensure its delivery.” The client walks away from Mando “but to the winner..”
The client pulls something from underneath his desk as he places it on top “go the spoils.” The client pressed a few buttons making it open to reveal Beskar, Mando leaves the side of the child as he walks over to his reward, he picks up two Beskars and examines them.
“Such a large bounty for such a small package.” The client says as he stares at Mando, the child lets out a cry as the doctor leads the carrier to another room as Mando watches.
The child only stares and Mando sadly lowering its ears before disappearing into the back room as the door closes, Mando looks down at the Beskar before looking at the client “what are your plans for it?” Mando asked.
The client’s face didn’t change “how uncharacteristic of one of your reputation you have taken both commission and payment is it not the code of the guild that these events are now forgotten?” The door from the other rooms opens as more stormtroopers pour of it and stand behind the client.
Mando eyes them “that Beskar is enough to make a handsome replacement for your armor unfortunately, finding a mandalorian in these trying times is more difficult than finding the steel.” Mando puts the Beskar back as he stares right at the client.
He closes the case of the Beskar before carrying it out the door, he walked back to the hiding place for the Mandalorians as he walked by some Mandalorians he saw that a few glanced at him he knew that they were staring at him because of the reward he was carrying.
He walk over to Armorer as she sat by a table, he placed the bounty reward on the table before opening the case to reveal all the Beskar inside, she took a few as she examines them.
Some Mandalorians walk inside the room as well “this amount can be shaped many ways.” She says to Mando as he places the Beskar on the table.
“My armor has lost its integrity, I may need to begin again.”
Armorer continues to stack the Beskar on the table “indeed I can form a full cuirass this would be an order for your station.”
“That.. would be a great honor.” Mando said to Armorer. She notices more Mandalorians come into the room “I must warn you it will draw many eyes.” She warns him.
Then heavy infantry walks up to the table he picks up one of the Beskar he looks at them before noticing a mark on them he scoffs “these were cast in an imperial smelter.” He shows the other Mandalorians “these are the spoils of the great purge.”
He turns back to Mando “the reason that we live hidden like sand rats.” He said before tossing the Beskar on the table.
Armorer picks up the Beskar as she stacks it on top of the others “our secrecy is our survival. Our survival is our strength.”
“Our strength was once in our numbers now we live in the shadows only to come above ground one at a time, our world was shattered by the empire with whom this coward shares tables.” Heavy infantry got closer to Mando, but Mando didn’t flinch or coward away.
“No wonder your comrade left you in the dust.” Heavy infantry said before going over to remove Mando’s helmet. Mando quickly smacked his hand away as the two began to fight the rest of the Mandalorians and Armorer watched.
Armorer finally got up, Mando and heavy infantry both held daggers right at each other “the empire is no longer and the Beskar has returned when one chooses to walk the Way of the mandalore, you are both hunter and prey how can one be a coward if one chooses this way of life? Have you ever removed your helmet?” She asked Mando.
“No.”
“Has it ever been removed by others?”
“Never.”
Armorer pauses for a bit before saying “this is the way.”
“This is the way.” The rest said.
Heavy infantry and Mando finally put down the dagger away from each other “this is the way.” Heavy infantry said as he stared at Mando then turning his attention to Armorer.
“What caused this damage?” She pointed at Mando’s armor.
“A mudhorn.”
“Then you have earned the mudhorn as your signet I shall craft it.” She said as she sits down.
“I can’t accept, it wasn’t a noble kill.” Mando says as he sits across from her “I was helped.. by an enemy.”
Armorer glances at Mando strangely “why would an enemy help you in battle?”
Mando remembers that day, the child had helped you and him against the mudhorn if it didn’t who know what would’ve happened that day.
“It.. did not know it was my enemy.” Armorer tilts her head “since you forgo a signet I shall use the excess to forge whistling birds.” She says placing a few Beskar aside.
“Whistling birds will do well reserve some for the foundlings.”
“As it should always be the foundlings are the future. This is the way.”
“This is the way.” The group chanted.
“This is the way.” Mando repeats.
Your POV:
You walked inside the bar where usually Karga was at, you quickly scanned the room to make sure Mando wasn’t there and he wasn’t thankfully. You let out a sigh before walking to the bartender to order something “Y/N.” You heard Karga called out to you.
You took your drink over to Karga as you sat across from him “Hey Karga.” He seemed to frown at you “where’s Mando? You two are always together.” You grip your drink in your hand “uhm.. busy.. he’s busy.” You quietly said as you took a sip from your drink.
Karga continued to stare at you, you hated when he did that you weren’t good at hiding your expressions but Karga then smiled at you as he then continued to ramble on about a few things.
After the chat with Karga you decided to leave you bid Karga goodbye as you left the bar you wondered what happened to the child and with Mando, you wanted to see him but the guilt of letting the child go back to the client was eating you away.
There were many reasons why this was bothering you so much, but you couldn’t blame Mando for not knowing things in your past you both never really talked about things like that.
You looked up at the sky it was always gray and gloomy but why did it look more sadder than it did before? You let out a sigh you didn’t want this to tear your friendship apart with Mando it meant too much for it to end.
You were going to find Mando but something odd was happening some of the people in the town were gathering together with Karga.
You got closer to them but made sure to keep yourself hidden “do you really think we’d get a reward if we bring Mando and the child back to the client?” One of the bounty hunters asked.
“Of course! If the child is away from the client that only means the hunt is on.” Karga replies to the other bounty hunter “and if Mando gets in the way just kill him.” You felt a small gasp escape you as you heard him say that.
You needed to find someone to help you! But who?! Everyone was against Mando at this point for the reward that the client would offer, but that’s when you realize the only people who would help mando would be the rest of the Mandalorians.
He told you about them because he trusted you, he always did.. you quietly snuck out of your hiding spot and went to go find the entrance to the Mandalorians. Once you found it you made your way down the stairs.
It was dark and quiet making you more nervous of your movements “hello?” You whispered trying not to spook anyone near by or make them attack you.
“What are you doing here?” You heard someone say making you flinch a bit “I.. I need help, Mando he’s in trouble.” You say you heard more footsteps but you didn’t know where it was coming from until a light shined brightly.
You saw so many Mandalorians looking at you, it surprised you usually there were never this many Mandalorians in one place but yet here they were “You’re Y/N?” You heard a voice come up from behind.
You turned around and saw another Mandalorian but she was dressed differently from the rest “how do you know my name?” You asked her.
“Mando as you call him has told me many things about you, but I’ve heard you said he needed help?” You nodded “please the entire town is against him and me helping him it won’t help him that much.” You said to her.
She glances at the rest of the Mandalorians giving them a nod “this is the way.” All of them said in unison.
“Does.. that mean you’ll help?” You asked hoping they’d said yes.
“For our own yes.” Another Mandalorian replies he was bigger than the rest making him more intimidating.
“Thank you I’m grateful.” You said smiling at him.
“Have you ever flown on a jetpack? Or know how to use one?” He asked you.
“No I haven’t.. please don’t tell me what your going to make me do.”
Third POV:
Shots rang out in the town as Mando ducked for cover, you were right he couldn’t let the child go with the client guilt ate away at him and he didn’t even know why... he wished he could’ve apologized to you but you left and it was his fault.
He looked down at the child as it opened its eyes and looked up at Mando it let out a coo, he needed to protect this child.. he can’t let it go back to the client even if everyone was trying to kill him at this point he’d risk his life for the child to have a normal life.
Suddenly he heard something fly above him as it shot at someone who was standing on top of a building, Mando looked up and saw the Mandalorians on jetpacks fly down and start shooting at the people who were shooting at him.
He was.. shocked he never thought that they would come up from hiding just to defend him.. but one question lingered in his mind how did they know he was in trouble?
He heard a loud shooting and looked up and saw heavy infantry expect.. he was holding someone and that someone was you “I’m NEVER doing that again!” You shout, even if it was for a short time you hated heights!
You saw Mando looking at you, you quickly rushed to his side “Y/N.. you came back?” You rolled your eyes “I was pissed at you Mando, but id never leave you like that.” You said giving him a warm smile.
“Get out of here! We’ll hold them off!” Heavy infantry said running to the moment between the both of you.
“You’re going to have to relocate the covert.” Mando says as he hands you the child, it gurgles in delight as it saw you “I’ve missed you too.” You said smiling.
Heavy infantry and Mando saw the bonding you had with the child “this is the way.” He said to Mando “this is the way.” Mando replies.
You felt Mando grab your hand in his “let’s go!” He shouts, you nod as the both of you start running to his ship “what made you change your mind?” You asked him.
“Things.” He says as the both of you board the ship “well I’m glad those things made you change your mind.” You say.
“Hold it.” Both of you heard Karga say, Mando protectively covered your figure with his “I didn’t want it to come to this, but then you broke the code and now your dragging Y/N into this.” You notice Mando look over at something before using his control wrist to activate the ship’s control as smoke covered the ship.
Mando quickly pushed you to cover you, as Karga shoots his blaster but missed you and Mando he was shaking trying to see through the smoke but Mando shot him right in the chest area making him fly out the ship.
“Are you alright?” Mando asked “y-yeah.. so is the child.” Mando nodded before making his way up to the ship as you followed him.
You sat right beside Mando with the child in your lap as Mando started up the ship, you could see the Mandalorians still continue to fight against the people who shot at Mando.
Mando quickly flew the ship away from the town you let out a sigh, placing the child down on the floor as it started to walk around.
“Thank you.” You heard Mando say but not face you “for what?”
“For.. telling the Mandalorians to help me.”
“You’re welcome..” you mumbled.
You looked outside and saw one of the Mandalorians fly by next to you guys on his jetpack he made a salute to Mando before flying off “I gotta get one of those.. you flew with heavy infantry didn’t you?” He asked.
“He complained about how tight I was holding onto him.” You heard Mando let out a soft chuckle suddenly you saw a small green hand reach up to small ball on the controls of the ship.
The child let out a coo to get Mando’s attention. Mando unscrewed the ball before handing it to the child it let out a giggle before disappearing underneath the controls.
“So.. can I call you daddy Mando for now on?” You joked “unless you wanna be called mommy then no.” You let out a laugh “I really missed you for those few hours Mando.”
“... so did I.”

Chapter 3 - The Sin
This is the third episode of the series where I have inserted my OC character (Mando’s daughter) into the Disneyplus television show. With her addition I believe this helps the viewers understand the choices Mando makes in the series. Would love to hear feedback! I do not own these characters and the story and dialogue goes to the respected credit of the screenwriters and creators of the show.
The cockpit stayed silent while Mando flew, his daughter slept in the lower deck as the child watched on from its pod. Suddenly a transmission beeped when Greef Karga appeared in a hologram.
“Mando. I’ve received your transmission. Wonderful news. Upon your return, deliver the quarry directly to the client. I have no idea if he wants to eat it or hang it on his wall but he’s very antsy. Safe passage. You know where to find me.”
Mando shut off the holo, turned and noticed the child right beside him with the nob to the Razor Crests accelerator, unscrewed and in its mouth. The little creature gnawed on the metal ball as if it was teething, but Mando quickly seized it declaring it wasn’t a toy. Sad the child hung its head low as it was placed back in it pod.
The Razor Crest finally landed on Nevarro making port outside of the city, Mando lowered the platform preparing for departure when he was met by his daughter.
“Thank you. I can’t believe all of my supplies are back,” she said knowing she didn’t deserve them.
“I’m happy that you’re happy,” Mando said.
“Why are we back on Nevarro?” she questioned.
Mando stared at his daughter a bit bewildered but answered vaguely, “You know why we’re here.”
“Wait, we’re actually going to hand over a defenseless child to a client we know nothing about, his intentions, his morals.”
“That is not our concern. We track, we obtain, we deliver…”
“Criminals, scum of the galaxy, not an innocent child. We can’t hand it over its not morally right.”
“Morals is not apart of the job, you must set yourself apart.”
“Why is this so easy for you, is it because the baby is a creature and not human? If this were a human child would you feel different? What if this was me, would you just hand me over to a complete stranger whom you didn’t know their intentions?” she was getting worked up, something Mando couldn’t afford.
“You have to separate yourself form your bounties. From all of our years of missions you have witnessed a plethora of encounters, even ones you didn’t agree upon but we still had to fulfill our task. That is our job, our only job, a bond can not be formed with the asset, you must learn that quickly,” Mando made his way down the ramp and programmed the pod to follow, he waited on his daughter who activated the security system and stood behind her father.
“You have no heart,” she said softly with her head down as the hatch closed behind them.
All Mando could do was look down upon his daughter and say nothing, he knew this wasn’t easy, he didn’t like the situation any better than she, but once a task had been accepted through the Guild the mission had to be completed.
Like some of their past assets, Mando knew in time she would forgive him eventually, somehow this child had really made an impact on her when he noticed it might have made one on him too.
He couldn’t allow his emotions to interfere, it had happened once before, a decision he never regretted, but would he become a repeat offender?
The three made their way through the town, silent, young Mando walked a few paces behind hoping her protest would register with her father but he didn’t seem to be bothered. Before they reached the end of the market, Mando turned to his daughter handing her some credits to purchase a few supplies and an item, he knew, she had her heart set on.
“You gave me to many credits,” she said in a dull tone.
“Use what’s left so you can purchase that bind of paper you were wanting.”
“You’re trying to buy my affection? Divert my attention from what’s clearly wrong. You can’t…”
“Enough!” Mando shouted and grabbed her upper arm pulling his daughter close. He never yelled at her, he always tried to keep calm but she was questioning his judgment, “You will go to the covert and wait for me, do you understand?”
Her whole life she had never feared her father, she had tested him many times but he never lost his temper like this, she clearly crossed a line. All she could do was nod her head in agreement and put her head down in shame.
Mando sighed in disappointment with himself and wanted to apologize, but instead let her go as she made her way directly towards the Mandalorian covert.
* * *
Wanting to forget the whole ordeal, Mando pushed the incident from his mind and continued with his mission. He made his way back to the client’s quarters and knocked on the door. The same droid from before emerged from the wall and scanned his chit card allowing him access. Waiting for him this time were two Stormtroopers who escorted him and the child in. They walked down the corridor when one of the Troopers grabbed hold of the pod violently upsetting the child inside.
“Take it easy,” Mando unintentionally said.
“You take it easy,” the Trooper replied appalled that someone was telling him what to do.
They entered the room when the client approached the pod with a fob beeping wildly.
“Yes,” the client said relieved as the doctor scanned the child with a device.
“Very healthy. Yes,” the doctor informed the client in pleasure.
“Your reputation was not unwarranted,” the client said.
“How many fobs did you give out?” Mando asked.
“This asset was of extreme importance to me. I had to ensure its delivery. But to the winner go the spoils,” the client placed a camtono container on the table pressing a few buttons and revealing stacks of Beskar bars inside. Mando approached pulling a few to inspect when the client continued, “Such a large bounty for such a small package.”
Suddenly Mando’s attention was brought to the child one last time, he watched it softly cry as the pod followed the doctor in another room. Again the repetitive memory crashed through his mind, acting like an instinct, trying to remind him of the previous scenario, but he couldn’t act, not this time. Maybe he could get some information so when he saw his daughter he could give her some ease.
“What are your plans for it?”
“How uncharacteristic of one of your reputation,” the client appeared annoyed, “You have taken both commission and payment. Is it not the Code of the Guild that these events are now forgotten?”
A door opened as several Stormtroopers circled the room, Mando could tell he was pushing limits.
“That Beskar is enough to make a handsome replacement for your armor. Unfortunately, finding a Mandalorian in these trying times is more difficult than finding the steal,” the client reminded Mando of his creeds practical extinction.
* * *
Mando collected his reward and left, not wasting time he made his way towards the covert to find his daughter and hand over the Beskar. Meandering his way down Mando knew he would always find his child entertaining the little ones, but not in this case instead she sat alone.
He approached her slowly, unable to read her body language, but her slumped shoulders and bowed head said it all. In a caring attempt Mando out stretched his hand for her to take, symbolizing that their argument was water under the bridge.
She still didn’t know how to feel, especially seeing the camtono in her father’s other hand, she was an accomplice in his crime, she felt ashamed in wanting to know how much was in the camtono, so she took her father’s hand as he lead them to the Armorer.
The two walked side-by-side catching the glimpses of admiring Mandalorians, they continued their journey and sat in front of the Armorer who awaited their spoils. Mando opened the camtono revealing the stacks of Beskar as Mando’s daughter gasped in surprise.
“This amount can be shaped many ways,” the Armorer stated.
“My armor and my daughter’s have lost its integrity. We may need to begin again,” Mando said as his daughter turned to him in silence, surprised he was giving her all new armor as well.
“Indeed. I can form two full cuirasses. This would be in order for both of your stations,” the Armorer continued counting bricks.
“That would be a great honor,” young Mando said to both her father and the Armorer.
“I must warn the both of you. It will draw many eyes,” the Armorer stated as one overly sized Mandalorian picked up a Beskar and scoffed.
“These were cast in an Imperial smelter. These are the spoils of the Great Purge,” the male Mandalorian began drawing a crowd in the Armory, “The reason that we live hidden like sand rats,” he threw the brick on the table, furious.
“Our secrecy is our survival. Our survival is our strength,” the Armorer reminded.
“Our strength was once in our numbers. Now we live in the shadows and only come above ground two at a time. Our world was shattered by the Empire, with whom these cowards shared tables,” when the Mandalorian grabbed Mando by his helmet and the two began to fight, Vibroblade to Vibroblade.
Young Mando quickly sprung to her feet ready to fight and defend her father when she unclasped his pulse rifle from his back, mid-fight, and pointed it over his shoulder directly at his attacker. The fight had come to a draw when Mando and his assailant held their positions with Vibroblades at each other’s throats.
“No fair,” the Mandalorian said when he was looking down the barrel of the rifle.
“The Empire is no longer,” the Armorer began, “And the Beskar has returned. When one chooses to walk the way of the Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey. How can one be a coward if one chooses this way of life?” She turned to Mando, “After your reinstate, have you ever removed your helmet?”
“No,” he replied.
“Has it ever been removed around others, excluding your kin,” she included.
“Never.”
“This is the way,” she ended.
“This is the way,” all the Mandalorians repeated while the three in battle stood down.
“What caused this damage?” she overlooked Mando and his daughter’s armor.
“A Mudhorn,” young Mando informed.
“Then your father has earned the Mudhorn as his signet. Yours will be revealed in time when you reach your age of independence young one. Now I will craft one for your father,” the Armorer said.
“I can’t accept,” Mando stopped her, “It wasn’t a noble kill. I was helped by an enemy,” Mando vaguely explained.
“Why would an enemy help you in battle?” the Armorer was baffled.
“It did not know it was my enemy.”
“Since you forgo a signet, I shall use the excess to forge Whistling Birds.”
“Whistling Birds will do well. Reserve some for the Foundlings,” Mando pointed out.
“As it should always be. Our kin and the Foundlings are the future,” the Armorer glared at young Mando as she felt a chill go down her spine.
Mando could sense his daughter’s unease and placed his hand on hers hoping to bring her comfort.
“This is the way,” the Armorer ended as the group repeated after her.
“This is the way,” they shouted.
“This is the way,” when Mando and his daughter followed suit and repeated the motto, but his daughter had a hard time speaking the words because was this way of life the way?
Was what they did morally right by handing over the child? This Beskar she was about to wear was forged out of a dishonest bounty, what was she to do?
“Whistling Birds are a powerful defense against multiple enemies. Use them sparingly for they are rare,” the Armorer informed when she went to work.
The two sat quietly basking in their own reflections of life, one haunted by the past, where the other haunted by the present. At last their new armor was placed upon them when they made their way out of the Armory and ventured towards the surface, but his daughter lagged behind.
Concerned he closed the gap between them hoping she would confide in him, “What’s wrong?”
“This armor is to heavy,” she said metaphorically.
“You will get use to it.”
“No, I mean this armor is dirty, not a noble reward,” she stated.
“Are you still upset?”
“How is this not riding on your conscious, on any ones? How is this the way, when did our creed lose sight on what’s right instead of what’s owed to us?”
“We must be grateful, they took me in and then they took us in,” Mando reminded.
“No, we were forced back in. Our lives were perfectly fine before they came into the picture.”
“We both knew the day would come where you would get sworn into the creed,” Mando reassured.
“A day I’m starting to regret more and more,” she said in honesty.
“Don’t speak such words. We owe the Mandalorians our lives.”
“Why did they have to rescue you as a child,” she blurted out not realizing the underlining context she was implying.
“What did you say?” Mando couldn’t believe what he just heard, his own daughter wished for his non-survival.
Finally realizing how she spoke her sentence she tried to rectify her words but the damage was done, “No, no, no, Papi,” she reached for his hand when he retracted, for the first time ever, “Please I didn’t mean it in that way.”
“Regrettably I think you did,” Mando said broken.
She knew the damage was done, once again she wasn’t learning from her mistakes, and she was paying the ultimate price.
“I think its best you stay at the covert for awhile,” Mando said a bit heartbroken.
“No, no, please, I’m sorry, Papi, I’m sorry,” she blubbered trying to keep control of herself.
Mando could see her suffering and didn’t want that, no matter how bad her statement hurt him, he couldn’t leave her in turmoil, “I know you are. I’ll come for you after my next job,” he was about to turn away but couldn’t leave her in this state. She would be a danger to others and herself. Showing a sign of his affection he placed his hand on the side of her helmet acting as if he was caressing her cheek.
Young Mando raised her head in hopes because her father always did this as his sign of love, she stood there with a hint of relief but with continued guilt in her belly.
* * *
“Look, I told you. I’m not interested in your excuses!” Greef Karga laid into one of his bounty hunters, “You had your shot, dust breather, but you failed. No pucks for you. Now get outta here,” Karga ended when the door to the cantina opened as everyone watched the upgraded Mandalorian approach Karga.
“Ah! Mando!” Karga greeted while laughing, “They all hate you, Mando. Because you’re a legend!”
“How many of them had tracking fobs?” Mando asked annoyed.
“All of them. All of them! But not one of them closed the deal. Only you Mando. Only you and I assume your daughter. Where is the kiddo these days?” Karga peered around Mando wondering if she was close behind.
“Watching the ship,” was all Mando cared to revel.
“Well I’m sure she is as shiny as you because this has to be the richest reward this parsec has ever seen. Please sit, my friend,” Karga waved his hand for Mando to take a seat opposite of him.
Accepting his gesture Mando sat and wanted to get straight to business.
“They’re all weighting the Beskar in their minds, but not me. No, I for one, I celebrate your success. Because it is my success as well. Hell! Even I am rich,” Karga pulled out two bars of Beskar he kept hidden in his chest pocket, “Now how can I show my gratitude to my most valuable partner?” Karga said loud and eager for the other failed hunters to hear.
“First I don’t appreciate secretive gifts given to my daughter,” Mando pointed out.
“Come on, I knew how you would react, think of it as an early Date of Existence present for her,” Karga tried to explain himself but Mando’s head tilted wondering how Karga knew her day was approaching.
“Don’t give me that look Mando, she revealed nothing, the conversation was vague enough for me to guess that’s all. Come on, the kid has to be one sometimes,” but all Mando did was glare at Karga in silence, “Alright you have my word. No presents unless I get your approval first, message received. Anything else?”
“I want my next job.”
“Next job? Take some time off. Enjoy some quality time with your daughter or I can take you to the Twi’lek healing baths,” Karga suggested believing it had been years since Mando had any other type of affection from another.
“I want my next job,” Mando stated not wanting to repeat himself again.
“Sure. Fine. You hunters like to keep busy, right? Well these are all far away.”
“The further, the better but not…” Mando was cut off as Karga knew Mando’s one stipulation.
“Yes, I remembered, no bounties in the Tolarian system,” which always made Karga curious on why Mando wouldn’t step foot on that planet.
It had become desolate where only the scum now made their secret dealings, but Karga wouldn’t push the matter. He laid out three pucks for Mando to inspect.
“Take your pick. You’ve earned it,” as Mando ignited one, “Ah. That’s the best one of the lot. A nobleman’s son skipped bail. Looks like you’re headed to the ocean dunes of Karnac, I’m sure the kiddo will love the scenery there. Inspire her creatively,” Karga envisioned young Mando taking in the view and replicating it in her own interpretation with his paints, but Mando stopped in his tracks as he got up to leave.
His daughter’s words echoed through his mind, What if the child was me, would you hand me over? The answer was simple, he would die protecting her, so why did this feel similar, he had to see if Karga knew anything.
“Any idea what they’re gonna do with it?” Mando asked.
“With what?” Karga played dumb as Mando faced him.
“The kid.”
“I didn’t ask. It’s against the Guild Code. Is that why the kiddo didn’t show, is she upset?”
But Mando diverted the question stating the obvious, “ They work for the Empire. What are they doing here?” he couldn’t have them meddling.
“The Empire is gone, Mando. All that are left are mercenaries and warlords. But if it bothers you, just go back to the Core and report them to the New Republic.”
“That’s a joke,” he knew to well.
“Mando, enjoy your rewards. Buy a camtono of spice. By the time you come out of hyperdrive, you will have forgotten all about it.”
Understanding he would get know where, Mando left the cantina pondering over many issues inside his mind.

Mando made his way to the Razor Crest, sadden that he was leaving his daughter behind but knew it would be the best. She believed he didn’t have a heart by allowing the child to be obtained, if only she knew.
Mando powered up the ship, igniting the engines to life when he reached for the accelerator noticing the top knob was missing. The child had been intrigued with the shiny object. The child. No, he couldn’t allow it, but his decision was already made. He powered down the ship and ventured his way to the client’s quarters.
* * *
With ease Mando found his way but knew he needed a plan, he went around back when he noticed the child’s pod vacant in a dumpster. Immediately this angered him, he knew what must be done.
Mando climbed a top the opposite building and pointed his pulse rifle at the client’s occupancy. He was able – through comms - to intercept the client and doctor’s brief conversation.
“I don’t care,” the client could be heard, “I order you to extract the necessary material and be done with it.”
“He has explicitly ordered us to bring it back alive, to Tolarian,” the doctor added.
“No, we will finish the business here, but quickly, as I no longer can guarantee your safety,” when Mando shut off his comms, they confirmed it for him, it was happening again.
* * *
Mando knocked on the client’s door forcefully, the door droid popped out but lost its head in the process from Mando’s grip. Walking off, two Stormtroopers emerged declaring to check the perimeter.
Mando made his way around back creating his own entrance by blasting a hole in the wall. He was met by several Stormtroopers, but nothing he couldn’t handle, one by one he took them out as he made his way through the facility and then came across a locked room. With one shot of his blaster to the controls the door opened revealing an armed guard and Dr. Pershing. The Trooper got off one lucky shot but it hit Mando in the Beskar, he quickly reacted blasting the Trooper back when he pointed his weapon at the frantic doctor.
“No, no, no, please, please, no, no, no,” the doctor pleaded while an interrogational droid flew towards the unconscious child.
Instantly Mando became furious shooting the droid happily while buried emotions surfaced, again he turned his weapon at the doctor as he continued pleading.
“Please, no, please, don’t hurt him, he’s just a child,” the doctor shielded the little one with his own body but Mando shoved him aside as he fell to the floor.
Mando overlooked the device the child was strapped into and questioned the doctor, “What did you do to it?”
“I protected him. If it wasn’t for me, he would already be dead. Please,” the doctor painted a picture, but once he looked up the Mandalorian and the child were gone.
* * *
Mando began his journey back but it wasn’t easy, he had to take out several Troopers in the process by either blaster, electric shock, or flame thrower. Silently he found his way back to the very room the negotiations took place but was met by four Troopers who wasted no time and encircled him.
“Freeze. Don’t move!” one of the Stormtroopers commanded.
“Hands up! Drop the blaster,” another shouted.
“Wait,” Mando said with his gun upright to surrender, “What I’m holding is very valuable. Here,” Mando kneeled, placing his blaster and the child on the ground when a Trooper demanded for Mando to face him, but instead the Troopers were met by Whistling Birds.
One by one each Trooper was taken out by a missile and sent to the ground, Mando gathered his blaster and scooped up the child when he stood and exited the premises.
* * *
The Guild cantina was lively, everyone busy with chatter and enjoying their drinks when suddenly one fob began beeping, then another, then another, suddenly everyone’s fobs started blinking red as Karga stared at the one Mando turned in with distain.
* * *
Mando attempted to make his way to the covert so he could obtain his daughter, but yet the heat on him would be too great, should he put her through that exposure? He was conflicted when he began to notice a tail on him, he quickly dodged the covert’s entrance and instead beeped a secret code through his comms. Their range should be close enough for her to hear when he requested her to meet him on the Razor Crest.
With out hesitation she beeped back but could tell by her father’s distress call something went array. Deep down her inner voice commanded her to inform the Mandalorians of her father’s situation and the fact that they needed the Tribes help.
Mando walked cautiously, he had the child in one arm and his blaster in another. One by one, hunter after hunter encased Mando in the street as Greef Karga blocked his way of exit.
“Welcome back, Mando!” Karga greeted sarcastically, “Now put the package down,” his hand went to his gun.
“Step aside. I’m going to my ship,” Mando demanded.
“You put the bounty down and perhaps I’ll let you pass.”
“The kid’s coming with me,” Mando declared.
“What kind of example are you setting for your own child, think of her Mando. Now if you truly care about the kid, then you’ll put it on the speeder and we’ll discuss terms,” Karga hoped he would get through to him if he spoke about Mando’s own flesh and blood.
“How do I know I can trust you?”
“Because I’m your only hope.”
Truly thinking about the outcome Mando felt torn, he had his own kin to protect, but all his daughter wanted was for the child to be safe as she was. Mando made his way towards the speeder and glared down at the child. It’s tiny frame cradled in his arm reminded him of when he use to hold his own, so trusting she was of him, still with him and she trusted her father to make the right decision.
Without hesitation Mando flipped into the speeder blasting a few hunters, he set the child down and declared for the R2 unit to drive. Fearful the droid beeped “no” when Mando threated to blast it himself, not wanting to be destroyed the R2 unit followed orders and drove off. Along the way Mando continued shooting and taking out anyone in his path.
Finding his window of opportunity, Karga followed the droids path with his blaster and took the shot, the droid ignited in sparks and immediately powered down.
Trapped Mando pulled out his pulse rifle and began disintegrating anyone in his scope. Quickly taking cover, the bounty hunters took refuge behind anything that would shield them from the others fate.
“That’s one impressive weapon!” Karga shouted.
“Here’s what I’m going to do,” Mando started, “I’m gonna walk to my ship with the kid and you’re gonna let it happen.”
“No. How about this? We take the kid, and if you try to stop us, we kill you and we strip your body for parts,” Karga said cynically.
Unable to answer, Mando got ambushed from behind but took them out by electrocution, seeing the hunters circle closer Mando fired his flame thrower sending them back a few feet but the flames didn’t last long. Realizing all hope was lost, Mando glared down at the sleeping child apologizing to it internally, he then apologized to his daughter for the inability to save this one.
The firing of guns continued all around him, seeing no window of opportunity to escape Mando would go down fighting but then, from above, blaster fire rained down. A dozen Mandalorians – on jet packs – maneuvered their way through the sky taking out their targets below.
The bounty hunters realized they were fish in a barrel when Karga strategized a new plan and left the scene to take matters into his own hands.
“Dad!” a voice called for Mando, “Dad!” she repeated in worry looking anywhere and everywhere on where her father could be.
“Here!” Mando exclaimed while covering her as she made her way towards him.
“Papi you’re alright, you’re alright,” she wanted to hug him but definitely knew this was not the time, “What I said, I meant none of it. Honestly, I am blessed that the Mandalorians found you and no one else, because otherwise I wouldn’t be one. I realize that now. This is the way. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, plus you have the biggest heart of anyone I know.”
“I appreciate this moment we’re having but now is not that time, here,” Mando scooped up the child and handed it for his daughter to safe keep.
“Get out of here! We’ll hold them off,” the male Mandalorian, whom Mando had gotten into a scuffle with in the Armory, said.
“You’re going to have to relocate the covert,” Mando informed.
“This is the way,” the Mandalorian replied.
“This is the way,” Mando said back as him and his daughter ran for the Crest while the battle continued behind them.
Young Mando ran ahead to unlock the ship and open the hatch, quickly she made her way to the cockpit to fire up the engines as her father followed. Going unnoticed another climbed on board and made his presence known.
“Hold it, Mando,” Karga pointed his blaster at Mando ready to fire, “I didn’t want it to come to this, but then you broke the Code.”
“I’ve broken Codes before,” Mando had enough, with the release of his grappling hook it triggered the carbonite device filling the ship with blinding smoke. Taking no chances, Karga shot rapidly hoping to hit his target. Mando waited patiently and took his only shot, hitting Karga in the chest and out of his ship.
The Razor Crest wasted no time and took flight, the impeding battle below started to break apart while a disgruntled Karga awoke to examine his wound, but to his surprise he pulled out the bars of Beskar which took the blow.
The cockpit door opened when young Mando moved so her father could pilot, the Razor Crest was his ship, she wouldn’t be surprised if he loved it more than her, but she knew that wasn’t true. Maybe someday she would get her own form of transportation, but for the mean time she was content co-piloting whenever he needed her assistance.
She took her usual seat as the child was placed in the other, the Razor Crest flew high in the sky when they caught a glimpse of the Mandalorian, who lead the charge, soaring with his jetpack outside their window.
The Mandalorian saluted the two and then flanked out of sight, Mando spoke unknowingly out loud, “I gotta get one of those,” when his daughter heard him and added.
“With a rocket, no jetpack is complete without a rocket.”
He turned towards her able to envision her smile; his smile. Her attention was quickly turned to the little hand that was reaching up for something, knowing exactly what the child wanted Mando unscrewed the tiny metal ball and dropped it into the child’s hand. Not understanding the context, young Mando shrugged off the interaction as she watched her father take them into orbit and then directly into lightspeed.

Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Opening August 29th 2019
At long last we have an opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. And it's sooner than we expected. The new super immersive land will open at Hollywood Studios, Disney World Orlando on August 29th 2019. Disneyland in California has an earlier opening date of May 31st 2019.
This is going to be a totally unique and immersive experience like no other. Think Wizarding World of Harry Potter on out of this world, galactic style steroids. It's the largest and most technologically advanced single-themed land expansion ever in a Disney park.
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World in Orlando will be opening in two phases:
Phase One: On August 29th, you'll be able to visit the remote planet of Batuu. You'll get a senses overload of unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes. And you'll become part of the story as you sample galactic food, sip exotic beverages and explore unique merchant shops.
You'll also be able to take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
Phase Two: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined, is set to open later this year. No set date as yet. This fully immersive ride will put you right in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Access:
Visitors to Disneyland between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the new Star Wars land. At this time, no reservation is offered or required for Disney World in Orlando. Although a similar system could be launched to control crowds.
Disney Parks Blog has a paragraph that tells us: Capacity for the parks, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its experiences is limited. Access to the park, land and experiences may be restricted or unavailable depending on guest demand and other factors.
Welcome to the Edge of Wild Space: Black Spire Outpost on Batuu
Batuu is a far-flung destination along the galaxy’s Outer Rim, located between Unknown Regions and the Frontier of Wild Space.
This remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes. Its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel.
Today, Batuu is home to Black Spire Outpost, an infamous port for smugglers, traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the ever expanding reach of the First Order.
The modern village was built on the remains of crumbling structures by a long-extinct civilization. The landscape is dominated by the petrified remains of towering ancient black spire trees.
As you stroll through this thriving port, you might encounter some familiar faces, from Rey, Finn and Poe to BB-8 and Chewie.

Two Attractions Bring Star Wars Adventures to Life
For the last four decades, Star Wars fans could only imagine what it would be like to blast across the stars inside the Millennium Falcon. Or race through the halls of a Star Destroyer.
Once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is fully open, two signature attractions will surely delight fans.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, will open on August 29th. You'll be right in the cockpit of “the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.” Take the controls of the Falcon in one of three unique and critical roles as the ship hurtles through space.
You could be a pilot, a gunner or flight engineer. There will be multiple ways to experience this attraction.
Height restriction for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is 38 inches.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open later in 2019 and will place you right in the middle of the Rebellion. You'll play an active role in the fight against the First Order.
Fancy a faceoff with Kylo Ren? Your journey will take you right inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge FastPasses:
At this time, no attractions in the new Star Wars land are included in the Disney FastPass+ system. However, Disney have announced they will "continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great Guest experience”.

Star Wars: Best Bounty Hunter Stories
https://ift.tt/2KjetVF
With the release of The Mandalorian, it's time to take a look back at the best Star Wars bounty hunter stories!
facebook
twitter
tumblr
With The Mandalorian exploring a lawless corner of the galaxy far, far away, bounty hunters -- the scum of the galaxy -- are now at the forefront of the Star Wars universe. Certainly, it's been a long time for fans of the most famous bounty hunter of all, Boba Fett. But, as the famous scene in The Empire Strikes Back shows, there's a whole stable of bounty hunters working across the galaxy for the highest bidder.
Besides Boba Fett, the other intergalactic scum only had a few seconds of screen time in The Empire Strikes Back, but those brief ticks of a clock were unforgettable. The image of a few alien toughs, some truly salty looking armored humans, and even a few droids fueled the imaginations of Star Wars fans for generations. So we thought we’d take this opportunity to spotlight some of the coolest Expanded Universe tales featuring Dengar, IG-88, Boba Fett, Bossk, Zuckuss, and 4-LOM.
Stream everything Star Wars with a FREE TRIAL of Disney+, on us!
Now remember, most of these stories were wiped out of continuity when Disney took over the galaxy far, far away, but that doesn’t make them any less readable and awesome. And yeah, we may even have a few that are part of the current Star Wars canon.
We promise there will be no disintegrations as we turn back time and examine the coolest bounty hunter stories of the Star Wars galaxy:
Dengar
Ah Dengar, we know kids of the 80s probably referred to you as Diaper Head, but you are still badass. Dengar was front and center when Vader gave the bounty hunters their marching orders and could also be seen chilling out in Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi. Dengar was played by Morris Bush, an actor who also appeared in Hammer’s Scars of Dracula (1970), the Christopher Lee pot boiler Creeping Flesh (1973), and the bizarre Ringo Starr musical comedy Son of Dracula (1974). Interestingly enough, Bush worked as a stand in for David Prowse in Star Wars (1977). According to Prowse, that is Bush’s foot you can see kicking Obi-Wan’s cape after Luke’s mentor is struck down by the Dark Lord of the Sith.
But where can you read about ‘ol Diaper Head? In the 1996 Kevin J. Anderson-edited Tales of the Bounty Hunters anthology (get ready, this isn’t the only time I’m going to mention this collection in this article), author Dave Wolverton related Dengar’s origin in a short tale entitled "Payback." In this piece of essential Dengar fiction (yes, such a thing exists), Wolverton details that Dengar used to be a swoop bike racer who was injured as a teenager by his racing rival. Of course, that rival was none other than a young Han Solo. Wolverton makes Dengar’s vendetta against the captain of Millennium Falcon very personal.
Read More: Star Wars Movie and TV Release Date Calendar
But Wolverton’s hyper-readable story isn’t our Expanded Universe essential Dengar pick. That honor goes to the season four episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars entitled "Bounty." In this toyetic installment of Clone Wars, an aimless Asajj Ventress joins up with a band of roguish bounty hunters that includes a teenage Boba Fett, Bossk, and the grizzled, weathered Dengar. Dengar plays a secondary role in this episode (doesn’t he always) to Fett and Ventress, but when Dengar springs into action, he truly shines. Better yet, Dengar is voiced by lifelong Star Wars lover Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek), and you just know that when Pegg was a wee lad he took his Kenner Dengar figure on many adventures. Pegg’s Star Wars enthusiasm shows as he fills the once tabula rasa Dengar with a salty, badass personality. "Bounty" was a Dirty Dozen-like adventure through the underbelly of the Star Wars galaxy and finally gave fans a sense of who the bandaged badass of Star Wars truly is.
IG-88
With a scant few seconds of screen team, IG-88 showed the world that not every droid in the Star Wars universe is cutesy. Yeah, we saw a few black imperial R2 and R5 units and a smattering of Death Star sroids, but IG-88 was a different mechanical animal all together. IG-88 was all sharp edges with a surreal design and multiple big honking firearms. Fans only got one quick glimpse of this death machine, but it was enough to emblazon this oddly shaped engine of destruction in fans’ minds forever. IG-88 was built and operated by puppeteer and effects guru Bill Hargreaves, and by operated I mean that Hargreaves moved IG’s head a tiny bit in Empire. But, damn, what a creation!
So we’re going to take IG-88’s chosen chronicle from the aforementioned Tales of the Bounty Hunters. In a short story entitled "Therefore I Am," it was revealed that everyone’s favorite murder droid had a great deal in common with Marvel’s Ultron. You see, in this tale, it was revealed that there were actually four models of IG-88 that shared the same malevolent consciousness. The IG master intelligence wanted to kick start a droid revolution and conquer the galaxy, but when it was activated, IG-88 murdered its creators and then built three duplicates of itself. One of those duplicates answered Vader’s call for bounty hunters while the others began plotting for the droid uprising. After Vader gave his marching orders, IG-88 stealthily downloaded Imperial files off the ships’ computer. Through this data theft, the assassin droid discovered top secret plans detailing the construction of a second Death Star.
Read More: Star Wars Movies Disney+ Streaming Guide
After IG sent that info to his duplicates, it tracked Solo to Bespin where it had a violent encounter with Boba Fett. Hey, remember the IG carcass in the background of the Ugnaught smelter sequence in The Empire Strikes Back, the one where the little pig people played keep away with Chewbacca? Yeah, this short story explains that carcass, as Fett blasts the IG unit to oblivion. But there were still three IG-88s out there. Two of them went after Fett but the last remaining IG-88, get this now, downloaded itself into and took over the freaking Death Star. Yes, according to Anderson’s "Therefore I Am," at the end of Return of the Jedi, the Death Star gained sentience thanks to IG-88. Of course, this was right before Lando Calrissian, Wedge Antilles, and Nein Numb blew the sucker up, but still, a malevolently intelligent Death Star is about as badass as it gets. That certainly would have led to the droid uprising, if not for fate and a fateful, last ditch bid at freedom by a desperate band of rebels.
IG-88—from a blink and you’ll miss it first appearance to a bee’s eyelash away from wiping out all non-mechanical life in the galaxy. Awesome.
Boba Fett
Can you imagine Star Wars without Fett? Honestly, the whole saga wouldn’t have been much different on screen, but it certainly would be fundamentally altered in the hearts and minds of fans, because Boba Fett’s legend lives in the Expanded Universe, or fans’ own personal expanded universes at least. There is a mystique to Fett. Maybe it’s because Boba Fett was the first mail away action figure which signaled to SW fans everywhere after 1977’s Star Wars that there would be more adventures in a galaxy far, far away to come. Perhaps it’s the fact that the Fett figure was supposed to feature a rocket-firing backup until Kenner grew worried that kids would choke on Fett’s spring loaded missile. Dude, Fett is so dangerous he was considered a threat to real world children before he made his film debut. Take that Dengar!
Perhaps it’s that badass souped up Stormtrooper like armor that Fett wears or perhaps it is because every inch of this gravelly voiced outlaw is covered in dangerous armaments. There are countless reasons that the whole world has a Boba Fettish and the stories we are about to list take advantage of this rarified adoration. It’s hard to narrow down just one great Boba Fett Expanded Universe story, so we won’t. We’ll hit you with a few.
Boba Fett was played by Jeremy Bulloch in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. For years, no one knew the lethal bounty hunter’s origins until George Lucas detailed Fett’s clone birth in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002), but before that, Fett was a mystery than many Expanded Universe creators tried to shed some light on.

First up is a yarn entitled "Prey" that appeared in Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars Tales #11 (2002). This flashback story written and drawn by Kia Asamiya features Fett being dispatched by Moff Tarkin to retrieve Han Solo after the future hero of the Rebellion defects from the Imperial Navy. Darth Vader disagrees with giving this assignment to a bounty hunter and goes after Solo himself. This leads to Fett and Vader engaging in an eye popping lightsaber battle in the middle of the Mos Eisley Cantina! Fett, who had procured a lightsaber from a dead Jedi (awesome), held his own against Vader, proving that this bounty hunter backs down from no man. Solo escaped by attaching his ship to a Star Destroyer and floating away when the warship dumped its garbage. Hmm, that sounds familiar, huh? This battle also built that subtle grudging respect that can be felt when Vader addressed Fett aboard the Star Destroyer Executer in Empire.
From the Dark Horse era to the first Marvel Comics era, let us go back in time to Star Wars #81 (1984) by Jo Duffy, Ron Frenz, Tom Palmer, and Tom Mandrake. There have been a number of Expanded Universe accounts of Boba Fett escaping the Sarlaac Pit, but this semi-classic published by Marvel just happens to be the first. The issue was entitled (get ready for it) "Jawas of Doom!" Let that sink in for a moment.
The story takes place just after the Battle of Endor and sees Han Solo searching for some extra cash. Han, Chewbacca, Leia, R2, and C-3P0 fly to Tatooine so Han can withdraw his credits from a Mos Eisely bank. Sadly, Han’s credits were frozen at the same time he was (in carbonite, natch!). Meanwhile, Boba Fett was spat out by the Sarlaac Pit and picked up by aggressive Jawas. It seems that since Jabba the Hutt’s demise, the Jawas have become more and more aggressive. In other words, the only thing that was keeping these hooded desert rodents in check was a mob boss, and now that Jabba is gone, the Jawas have become a gaggle of little murder bundles. So the Jawas droidnap R2-D2 and Boba Fett, whom they mistake for a droid due to his strange armor. Boba Fett has amnesia because comics and becomes the Jawas hapless prisoner (this is like an action figure adventure I would have had with a 103 degree fever).

Han, who sets on a rescue mission, boards the Sandcrawler and is shocked to see Boba Fett. The two former enemies work together to defeat the Jawas (no, really) until Fett regains his memory and takes a pot shot at Han. Han leaps to safety just as the Sandcrawler plummets into, you guessed it, the Sarlaac Pit. Wahh-wahh-wahhhhhh! What a strange little must-read story. First off, it featured the first post-Return of the Jedi appearance of Fett and, secondly, it then almost turned Fett into a kind of tragic hero before depositing him back into the same pit of death in which he met his ignominious film demise. One has to wonder if Marvel was under marching orders by Lucasfilm to make sure Fett stayed in the Sarlaac, and if so, what kind of plans did Lucas have for the fan favorite hunter killer back in 1984? And what about those killer Jawas. How are you not eBaying this right now?
Let’s move on to some alternate escapes from the Sarlaac Expanded Universe fiction, shall we? We have discussed Tales of the Bounty Hunters ad nauseam (and we will again), but now, let's take a look at Tales from Jabba’s Palace (1996), another Kevin J. Anderson-edited anthology. In "A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett" by J.D. Montgomery, readers get to experience Fett’s time in the Sarlaac. This short story features the most backstory that was ever revealed about the mysterious bounty hunter pre-Attack of the Clones, as fans are welcomed into Fett’s thoughts for the first time. Most of these thoughts consist of “Oh my lord, I’m slowly being digested over a period of a thousand years. It hurts. It hurts. Solo is a dick!” but there is also a great deal revealed about the heart and spirit of the hunter.
This tale mostly takes place within the Sarlaac, as a trapped Fett is able to converse with the Pit’s first victim, a being named Susejo. Through Susejo, Fett learns how hopeless his plight truly is—but guys, this is Boba Fett, the most lethal bounty hunter in the galaxy, a walking weapon, the first mail away action figure! Fett isn’t having any of that noise and tricks the Sarlaac into digesting his rocket pack. Well, Kenner was right, that backpack was dangerous, and when the thing explodes, Fett is freed of the Sarlaac. Pretty intense and much better than dying while fighting rabid Jawas. Montgomery’s tale really highlighted what Star Wars fans new all along—that nothing can stop Boba Fett, the most lethal bounty hunter in the galaxy.
Boba Fett is so badass he couldn’t even be stopped by the The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). For real, the haphazardly animated nine-minute animated short featuring the introduction of Boba Fett is the only watchable part of the infamous Christmas special. In this short, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker fall victim to a sleeping virus and Chewbacca and the droids must team with a mysterious armored figure named Boba Fett to save the heroes.
Over the course of the stiffly animated feature, Fett fights a lizard dragon thing and is still a menacing presence despite the fact that he barley moves in this unbudgeted production. Now imagine, kids everywhere sending away for the Kenner figure and encountering Fett for the first time in the Christmas special. Even though the rest of the special is unwatchable, Fett’s animated debut must have been pure magic for Star Wars fans of a certain age. And that’s why we love Fett and his mystique, because his uniquely marketed pre-The Empire Strikes Back introduction into the Star Wars galaxy introduced the very idea of an Expanded Universe. Expect more Fett very soon, possibly in his own feature length film in the next few years.
Bossk
Bossk, possibly the most fearsome looking bounty hunter to gather on the Executor in The Empire Strikes Back, has long been an iconic but minor adversary in the Star Wars saga. Like Fett, Bossk was a Kenner mail away action figure, which just adds to the aura of this Trandoshan villain. Bossk is so tough, he doesn't have time for footwear, and his arms and legs barely fit into his famous yellow space suit. You just know that Bossk ripped apart some poor pilot to score his flight gear, and the lizard-like bounty hunter really pops in the few seconds he is onscreen in Empire.
Played by British actor Alan Harris, Bossk also pops up in Return of the Jedi and has appeared in many Expanded Universe tales. By the way, that Bossk’s famous space suit was a leftover costume used in the 1966 Doctor Who episode "The Tenth Planet Part 1" is pretty cool sci-fi synergy, huh?

To find our Bossk highlight, we look to the recent past and to the young adult Star Wars Rebels novel Ezra's Gamble by Ryder Windham (2014). Before this EU tale (which is part of the new Disney canon), Bossk was traditionally portrayed as an almost mindless, cannibalistic brute. While this has added to the infamous legend of Bossk, it didn’t leave room for character subtleties. Windham took care of all that by portraying the Trandoshan as a morally ambiguous hunter with a unique sense of honor.
In this recent prose Rebels adventure, Bossk is depicted as a reluctant anti-hero with a conflicting sense of right and wrong. Bossk helps Ezra Bridger and is presented to fans in a heroic light for the first time. But in Empire and in other Expanded Universe fiction, Bossk is a flesh-hungry monstrosity who uses his personal ship, the Hound’s Tooth, to track his prey across the galaxy. So whether you like the new, more complex Bossk or the slavering, blood hungry scum of yesteryear, you've got to admit that with a few short seconds on screen and one garbled line that almost caused ‘ol Admiral Piett to poop his Imperial trousers (Res luk ra'auf!), Bossk has long captured the imagination of Star Wars fans.
Zuckuss and 4-LOM
Before we delve into our final pair of bounty hunters, let us play the name game. When Kenner produced its last two bounty hunter action figures in 1982, the toy company made a bit of a boo boo. Kenner used the Zuckuss name for a character that was clearly a droid and used an alpha-numeric droid designation for a character that was clearly an alien. Yes, according to Kenner, 4-LOM was an alien and Zuckuss was a droid, but history now tells us that Kenner done screwed up. In recent years, 4-LOM has been correctly identified as the bug eyed droid aboard Vader’s Star Destroyer in Empire, and Zuckuss has become the robed, bug eyed alien and all is right with the galaxy.
But this name confusion just adds to the mystery of these two strange beings. The two bounty hunters in question appear in the same shot together and thus, have always been associated with each other. So when the two made their first appearance in the Expanded Universe, they did it as partners, as the Lenny and Squiggy of the Star Wars universe, but with an intense blood thirst and lots of guns. Before we delve into our 4-LOM and Zuckuss highlight, let us mention that 4-LOM was played by actress Cathy Munroe while Zuckuss was played by Chris Parsons (who also played the white protocol droid that appeared on Hoth, K-3PO—because if we’re going to go SW obscure, we might as well take it all the way to the extreme).
Okay, of course our 4-LOM and Zuckuss tale comes from Tales of the Bounty Hunters because quite frankly, neither of these scums has made many Expanded Universe appearances. You would have thought that with their really awesome costumes 4-LOM and Zuckuss would have popped up in Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi, but nope, it was one and done for this pair of assassins.

In the Tales of the Bounty Hunters story, "Of Possible Futures: The Tale of Zuckuss and 4-LOM" by M. Shayne Bell, fans learn the complex histories of both of these blink and you’ll miss ‘em bounty hunters. 4-LOM and Zuckuss ambush a group of Rebels as the freedom fighters are attempting to escape Hoth during the first act of The Empire Strikes Back. The pair planned to sell the captives to Vader and the Empire.
During the mission, fans learn of the background of both bug-eyed bounty hunters. 4-LOM was once a simple protocol droid whose programming became compromised. At first, 4-LOM began stealing from passengers of a luxury liner he worked on and before long became proficient in all sorts of mayhem. Eventually, 4-LOM embarked on a career as a thief and a bounty hunter and became so infamous, that even IG-88 considered recruiting 4-LOM into the droid revolution but thought better of it because the former protocol droid’s personality was too unstable.
As for Zuckuss, this diminutive killer was a member of the Gand species, a group of insectoid aliens that breathed pneumonia and had to wear specially-made breathing apparatuses or suffocate in oxygen rich atmospheres. Gands also used special chemicals called the Mists to help them reach precognitive trance states. Whether Zuckuss really had mystical powers or just kind of got high and hunted people is unclear, but it was clear that this alien and droid made a formidable pair.
In Bell’s tale, Zuckuss and 4-LOM are also shown to have a sound moral compass as, after the bounty hunting duo capture the Rebels, they free them and help the fugitives escape the Empire. So there you have it, according to the now out of continuity Expanded Universe tale, two of our infamous bounty hunters in question possessed the heart of heroes even though they looked like things that crawled out of an H.R. Giger fever dream.
Most of these Expanded Universe tales are now expelled from the Star Wars canon, but the wonder that surrounds these six bounty hunters remains. As we move towards countless more Star Wars films, books, comics, and cartoons, you can be assured that these six characters that captured fans imaginations in about six seconds will continue to fascinate Star Wars fans of every age. Happy hunting.

Here’s what we know, as of Chapter Three of The Mandalorian: - The Beskar that Mando retrieves is stamped with an Imperial signet and was gathered during the Great Purge - Heavy Infantry says, “These were cast in an Imperial smelter. These are the spoils of the Great Purge. The reason that we live hidden like sand rats."
- The Mandalorian Armorer says, “Our secrecy is our survival. Our survival is our strength.” Heavy Infantry: “Our strength was once in our numbers. Now we live in the shadows and only come above ground one at a time. Our world was shattered by the Empire, with whom this coward shares tables.”
- In the flashback to when (presumably) Mando was a child, we very, very clearly see a B2 Super Battle Droid, opening up the hiding place he was in.
- Precisely what this means is still up in the air. The Mandalorian takes place in 9 ABY, which puts it five year after the end of Return of the Jedi. (Whether the Empire ended in 4 ABY with the death of the Emperor over the forest moon of Endor OR the Battle of Jakku in 5 ABY probably depends on who you ask, in universe.) This means, the Empire was formed 28 years ago from the point of The Mandalorian. Depending on the character’s age, unless he’s in his 20s (mid-20s at the very most), the flashbacks cannot be during the Empire’s time. But, if he’s around Pedro Pascal’s age (44) then, assuming he’s at most 10 years old in the flashback, but possibly as young as 5 years old, that would mean Mando was born 16 years before the Empire was created, in 35 BBY. The Clone Wars started in 22 BBY during Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace takes place in 32 BBY.
So, assuming some ages here, that would put the timeline as: - 10 years old in flashback, it’s 34 years ago, 25 BBY, three years before the Clone Wars started - 5 years old in flashback, it’s 30 BBY, eight years before the Clone Wars started It’s totally possible to massage those numbers though, maybe Mando’s younger than 44, maybe he’s older in the flashback than 10, it’s hard to say. - Heavy Infantry is GIVEN A NAME IN THE CREDITS:
HIS CHARACTER’S NAME IS PAZ VIZLA. Which is way too close to “Vizsla” to not around some heavy suspicion, given how important the Vizsla clan is to Mandalore, as well as Jon Favreau himself voiced Pre Vizsla in The Clone Wars. (Is it a different spelling? A related/offshoot clan? A typo in the credits? Another bit of Legends being re-canonized?) Some general conclusions to be drawn: - Whatever’s happening in the flashbacks, I think can’t really be related to the Great Purge, the timeline definitely wouldn’t be flexible enough for that, UNLESS that’s not Mando in the flashbacks and they somehow account for a B2 Super Battle Droid to be there (which wouldn’t be hard to do) and he plays a different role in those flashbacks. - The Great Purge is connected to the Empire and I see two main roads it can take. 1. Whatever it was that happened post-Rebels, after the clans of Mandalore decided to stand up to the Empire, now that Bo-Katan Kryze was given the darksaber. and Clan Vizsla (among others, including Clan Wren and Clan Saxon) gave their support to her. 2. This is an off-shoot of the various Mandalorian Clans and Houses we’ve seen so far, that instead of being a continuation of the events of Rebels, it’s instead some faction within the Mandalorians that has separate goals and structure. Both have their merits--this would be a chance to finish telling the story of what happened to Mandalore and its people after Rebels showed them ready to fight the Empire, certainly Favreau and Filoni both have a heavy invested interest and experience with that area of the franchise. (Dave Filoni being the one who basically oversaw the creation of it, Favreau being a longtime friend, even voicing a character from that era/area.) But it would also mean relying on those events that many, many people watching The Mandalorian would have have seen and they’re not going to make people do a ton of homework just to watch this show. Which doesn’t necessarily preclude that it’s connected to Rebels, certainly they didn’t need to explain in detail what happened to Maul in The Clone Wars to have him cameo in Solo, you could glean all you needed to know from the movie itself. Possibly that’s what they’ll do here as well. Of more interest is that, even four-five years after the fall of the Empire, the Mandalorians are still in hiding. Who are they hiding from, now that the might of the Empire is gone? Are they truly all that’s left of Mandalore? Five or six of them, while they were once an entire planet? Or are they the only ones left of their offshoot of Mandalore? Rebels took place from around 5 BBY right up to 0 BBY, just before A New Hope and the Bo-Katan stuff was near the end--did the Empire wipe them out in the four years between ANH and ROTJ? Or is something else going on? (I’m leaning towards them being an off-shoot, but YOU NEVER KNOW.) HARD TO SAY, BUT THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR. GOOD JOB, FAVREAU AND FILONI, I’M HOOKED AND WANT ANSWERS.

8D smelter droid, kind of an oddball dude. Always hated the way he tortured that poor Gonk.
