I need a verse where Jake has a great family, yes, but a terribly overbearing family. 

That’s why he lives as far away from them as he can and that works! Ya know, for the most part… until the wedding. The moment Bradley proposes, Jake is done for. He’s toast. Slicemav, the Daggers and the ‘86 flyboys don’t understand why Jake is mentally writing his will. 

My family is going to know and kill me for not telling them about you earlier. 

But we haven’t announced it? 

It doesn’t matter, she’ll hear it on the wind. 

Who?

My Ma. 

And sure enough, eight hours later there are eight angry women on Slicemav’s doorstep and his Ma is bemoaning why Jake doesn’t love her anymore. 

He’s getting married! He doesn’t want us at the wedding! Oy my heart! You were supposed to bring me naches (joy)! My only boy! MOSHE OUR SON HATES US! 

And Ice, who is helpfully sipping his tea from the kitchen hears the Yiddish and knows. He looks at Jake from across the room with such knowing horror. He too was Jake at one point. 

Bradley is dying of laughter at watching Jake’s yenta mother squeeze his cheeks and cry about how grown up he is. Bradley doesn’t realize he’s next. 

His seven sisters (ranging from 4 to 28) are all about to passive aggressively plan the biggest wedding bash ever.

Wings AU character bits

Hi this is me trying to get a grip on writing again and getting the characters while also adding the wing bits.

Ice Harpy Eagle

Likes having long nails (harpy eagles have fuckin huge talons), keeps them shaped and neatly painted if he's in the mood when on leave

Likes to keep his nest cool and clean (comfy but practical)

Tall nesting! He always claims the top bunk! 

His childhood bedroom had one of those tall beds with a desk under them because he kept piling stuff up to sleep atop of them and it could fit multiple people 

Sad because Navy bunk beds are small :(

Strong as fuck (he's smaller than Sli but can bench press almost as much) (harpy eagles grab animals as big as them like sloths and carry them) (can carry others while flying if needed just not for lengthy flights)

Very keen eyesight so sunglasses for light sensitivity (maybe reading glasses for near sight focus? I like him with glasses)

Very good hearing (don't shit talk near him he'll definitely hear it)

Hair moves very slightly, similar to feathers (kinda like their facial disk and feather crest) 

*Baby feathers are almost all white with some light gray. They molt usually once a year (sometimes twice) and it takes 5 years to get the adult coloring 

Ice's stayed in a middle coloring and he got insecure. His mom suggested matching his hair and that's how the frosted tips came to exist :D

He's a provider by nature but his little sisters have made him very nurturing and affectionate too (Slider knows this firsthand and thinks it's hilarious how fussy Ice can get)(the others learn with time but first baby goose)

Leaves feathers around the house (perfectly placed thank you very much)

Slider Bearded Vulture

Lämmergeier means “Lamb vulture” (wrong because they don't prey on sheep but shhhhh).  Slider calls Maverick “Little lamb” as a joke because he loves annoying him and wants to eat him up

CAN ACTUALLY EAT BONES!!! (Bone soup is a thing!) Will chew on them till it's painful to watch and will take anyone's bones off their plates to pick the marrow off them

The bone dropping shows a lot in him just throwing stuff. He does it. A LOT.

He also likes to have a tennis ball around to fidget dropping it and catching it when it bounces

Has an actual nest bed. The mattress is on the harder side but it has a shit ton of blankets and pillows (to the point you can't feel the mattress)

There are old feathers around the nest tucked in between pillows (don't tell Ice!!) ⁠(⁠ ⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠-⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠ ⁠)

Very involved into the life of the ones he loves (helpful, affectionate, etc) (this includes parenting looks at baby goose)

His feathers only dye red when visiting his family or on vacation with family because they frequent iron rich waters (his mom loves her red feathers and looking at her baby look like her makes her teary eyed)

Maverick Peregrine Falcon

Very lightweight!!!

He's beauty, he's grace, he'll dive down and kick you in the face (literally, peregrine falcons kill prey by punching them with their closed talons when dividing)

Very keen reflexes (both at ground and on air), will grab anything you throw at him even if distracted

Very! Good! At courting!!!! (Looking at the beginning bar scene)

Small but comfy nest. Very soft and also bunk bed! is perfect

Has a favorite blanket that he will ALWAYS take everywhere, even on deployment 

Cracking his head fuckin open more than once as a kid because he's a menace and small and tried to dive from places he climbed (not his best idea)

crying because he's so small he can't carry goose after the accident and can just grab at him until they get rescued

Now this would be for trans! Mav

To everyone's surprise Mav is as big as he can get (Female birds of prey are bigger than males= bigger wingspan, human height is genetic so for avians is a bit mixed)

Wings don't allow binding (for obvious reasons) but kinesiology tape exists! 

He already used KTape before joining the navy and top surgery so he's used to just strutting around shirtless (we stan a short confident king! It's honestly so freeing to tape and be shirtless I might just leave him pre surgery for next fanart pieces)

Goose Emden Goose

Literally a Mother Goose™

Has learned to deal with Maverick and not only does he not get surprised by his antics, he can predict them and is already prepared for them (aka get ready to scoop tiny ass Mav if he gets in trouble or hurts himself)

The good part is that it has made him baby proof. He can deal with a child he's been dealing with Mav!

Terrified. Absolutely terrified. Because his beautiful baby gosling is as much a little shit as his wife and best friend. If his wings weren't already white they'd for sure be by now ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

I need to think more about Mav and Goose but that involves looking for Peregrine Falcon and Geese facts

Flufftober 2024 - Day 6: Cuddles

The first time Ice really thinks everything will be okay again is on the transport plane back to Miramar after the Layton mission. He's won the Top Gun trophy. Maverick is flying again. He's friends with him now, or so it seems. Ice doesn't know exactly but it feels like it. Wingmen.

Maverick, Mav is sitting on his right side, Slider on his left, both of them napping, both of them slightly twisted towards him, as far as that's possible with the seat belts, their knees bumping against his each time there's a slight rumble. Their heads are dangerously close to falling down on each of Ice's shoulders, too. He wouldn't mind though, not at all. 

Across from him, Hollywood is grinning at him. He's in a similar position, Wolfman sleeping on his shoulder. They are an open secret. Nobody talks about them. History will simply say they were close friends but yet, here they are, definitely more than friends. It'd be a lie to say Ice hasn't thought about both Slider and Mav in a similar way. Ice smiles back at Wood. 

Almost demonstratively, Wood wraps his arm around Wolfman, then points with his eyes first at Slider, then at Mav, then back at Ice. 

Ice understands and wants to put his arms around both of them, hold them close, cuddle them. And actually why not? If Wood and Wolf can do it, why not them, too? Ice shuffles a bit and manages to wriggle each of his arms around their backs, hands resting on their hips. Wood nods, smiling knowingly. Then he rests his head on Wolf’s and closes his eyes. 

Simultaneously, Mav's arm wraps around Ice's belly and his head drops against his arm. As if he'd only waited for it, Slider's arm follows suit, resting on top of Mav's, while his head falls on Ice's shoulder. A warm tingly feeling arises in Ice's belly. 

Cargo plane seats are uncomfortable as hell but here and now, being cuddled by these two menaces of men, he wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

extremely busy with travelling currently, but i thought i should share some tiny headcanons that mean absolutely nothing while i have some free time!!<3

mav is lactose intolerant but still drinks/eats heavy dairy products.

ice is allergic to pollen, it makes him sneeze a lot, in the spring, mostly.

some of bradley’s friends from when he was in middle school/high school had a crush on mav (opportunity for a hangmav pining fic? maybe?)

chipper sleeps whenever he can, which could be at literally anywhere. (because he has insomnia)

mav is sort of bipolar (taking this headcanon from steve randle because i love crossovers)

when bradley was born, goose & mav almost weren’t there for it. but mav yelled at multiple people and sped through traffic for the birth of his godson, even if he wasn’t allowed in during.

wolfman and hollywood weren’t together during top gun, they just playfully-sexually teased one another. (they didn’t confront each other until they watched ice & mav at the layton)

mav is a baseball guy, slider likes football, ice likes basketball and the world hockey juniors. (he forces mav & sli to watch them with him every year)

ice doesn’t follow nhl, only the world juniors.

carole and goose would watch the olympics together, they enjoy the summer ones more than winter.

mav keeps a book in his duffel bag incase he gets really bored. he’s surprisingly read a few.

maverick gets hit on constantly when he’s at the gym that’s not on base. (especially when he’s doing squats)

he only uses the public gym when he either doesn’t want to be on base, or wants to show off. (it’s usually the latter)

sundown and chipper were paired together on their first deployment, and they’ve never been with anyone else since. they have too much trust in each other to let go.

ice takes very long showers. like, the forty-minute kind. with the water scorching his back and turning his skin bright red till the water runs cold.

Slider used to be PAINFULLY homophobic

Despite that, He actually wasn't open about it.

Especially after he found out ice and a few of his other friends were queer as well.

It was only after he found out ice was gay when he started to have second thoughts on his opinions towards the LGBTQ+ Community.

He never once suspected he was gay as well, Even after coming to accept the gay community and after realizing he never really felt attraction towards many (if any) women.

But then he started to notice more and more about both Iceman and Maverick.

Next thing he knew he was suddenly cuddled up in bed with the two, Ice in the middle and maverick on his friends left, both fast asleep.

SOMEone let it slip that big bad Iceman goes a bit wobbly over fangs~ Slider and Mav (werewolf and succubus flavor respectively) very benevolently strive to meet Ice's needs as often as they can, they're good like that.

Meanwhile Ice is very aware of what they are doing and even though he's kinda offended they think he's that easy, he's infuriated to admit they're 100% right uwu ♥

Me, sobbing as I imagine an AU where Rooster runs away at seventeen, once he finds out that Mav, Slider and Ice pulled his papers.  

Where Rooster meets a girl who treats him like shit, so desperate to be loved that he puts up with it, and then — there's a baby. 

A baby boy that Rooster spends over twenty-two years raising all by himself after she leaves them, begging for help from the baby’s maternal grandparents because he has no other option. 

A perfect little boy that makes Bradley understand everything that Mav, Ice and Sli gave up to raise him, after his Mom died when he was little. He forgives them somewhere between his little boy’s first day of kindergarten and the first time his baby looks up at a jet plane and says “I wanna fly too, Daddy!”

His baby boy, who grows like a weed and then there's NROTC, college in two years flat and his little smarty pants graduates Top Gun the youngest ever — as a wizzo. His baby boy is a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) and gets the callsign Kiwi for his big green eyes and love of the damn things. Bradley spends hours laughing his ass off, the minute he realizes a Kiwi is also a little fluffy bird. 

I need this AU so much, you don't understand. 

I need them to pull Bradley’s baby boy for the Dagger mission as a spare wizzo. 

Because you know who is going to have to demonstrate the same techniques in a F-18 single and double seater? Mav. 

You know who isn't prepared to get a backseater for the first time in decades? Mav. 

Especially not one named Nicky Bradshaw.

Flufftober 2024 - Day 7: Protective

Layton is a turning point in the relationship between Ice and Mav. Sure, they still bump their heads and challenge each other boundlessly but they are friendly now. Maybe even more, sometimes it seems like it. Mav isn't sure. He only knows that if he wants to spend time with Ice, he has to spend time with Slider, too. That's just how it is. Ice and Slider are a package, you only get both - or none.

Mav doesn't know what to make of it at first, what to make of Slider, that is. He's a dickhead and loud and boisterous - all of that in a good way though. He's also goofy and funny and… even cute. That you only get to see when he’s friends with you and the more time Mav spends with him, he realizes it's not just Ice's company he seeks. It's also Slider’s. He misses him when he's not around, just like he misses Ice when he's not there. By then, it's pretty obvious to everyone around them that two plus one have become three, a unit, inseparable. He had been one with Goose but he hadn't seen it coming with Ice and Slider, at least not so soon after.

But somehow it actually is Goose, though, who brings them even closer together. One night, the three of them are watching a movie, almost huddled up together on Slider's not-made-for-three-people couch. The whole situation isn't anything special, the movie is good, Mav feels comfortable between his two friends, when suddenly his brain takes a leap and he can't help but think how much Goose would've loved the movie. He tries to blink the tears away that instantly shoot into his eyes. He tries to keep his breath steady. He tries to pretend that everything is fine.

Next thing he knows, though, is Slider pausing the movie and Ice placing his hand on Mav's shoulder, big and warm and gentle and making his floodgates open completely.

“We miss him, too,” Ice whispers, while Mav can't hold back the tears anymore.

“Yeah,” Slider agrees, rubbing Mav's knee soothingly. His soft voice is a stark contrast to his usual loudness. “So much.”

It's only then that Mav realizes that they understand. They've been friends with him, too. They had been there when it happened. They understand - knowing that calms him down instantly although it doesn't stop the stream of tears running down his cheeks. But Ice and Slider hug him and guide him through his wave of grief.

Later, when Mav's tears have subsided and they have finished watching the movie, this becomes the first night in which the three of them share a bed and when Mav wakes up from a nightmare with a start, sitting up straight, his whole body quivering and a new stream of tears running down his face, it's Ice and Slider who put their arms around him again.

“Shh, it's all okay,” Slider mumbles. “We’re here. You're safe.” He cradles the back of Mav's head, gently runs his fingers through his messed up hair.

“You're not alone,” Ice adds, rubbing Mav's back and placing a soft kiss on his shoulder.

“We protect you,” Slider says from the other side, shuffling a bit closer and kissing his temple.

“We protect each other,” Ice expands on Slider's words. He takes Slider's free hand, one of Mav's and joins them together with his, resting them on Mav's thigh.

It's the first time they share that kind of affection with each other, this kind of touch, this kind of intimacy. Ice gently thumbs his tears away and Slider softly kisses his cheek. Mav doesn't complain, not at all.

Months and years later, they all will agree that this was the night they became more than friends, their anniversary, and when somebody asks how they got together, they all answer, without a doubt but with smiles on their faces, that it was Goose's merit.

Hi trying to find a top gun fic I read a couple years ago about Ice & Slider being murdering anyone who hurts Mavs feelings

huh- well I personally can't recall reading that one, but it certainly sounds familiar. Maybe the wonderful tumblr folks can help, they're always so great with helping me anytime I lose a fic!
