Skin is the largest organ of a body. It is made up of two layer : Upper Epidermy & the lower Dermis. The lowermost  layer of the epidermis is known as the basal layer. It contains organelles called melanosome. Melanosome contains cells called melanocyte which produce pigment called melanin.

This mite actually lives in your skin and greatly affects people with rosacea. People with rosacea have 10xs the amount of demodex mites then people who don’t. The bacteria that they release contributes to the inflammation that contributes to rosacea. #skinknowledge #masteresthetician https://www.instagram.com/p/CDyrwjLAWb-/?igshid=1vmi8msy9vo5h

Face mapping Also known as mien shiang, which directly translates to “face reading,” is a 3,000 year old Chinese ancient practice. It is a belief that a person’s skin is a reflection of their inner health, and it views the face as a map with each section connecting to different organs. When there’s a bodily imbalance, it’s said that the skin will show this via pimples (breakouts), redness, excessive oil, luster, dullness, color or dryness. The location of these blemishes or conditions on the face supposedly represents the organ that’s affected. There’s no real scientific basis to Chinese face mapping. Instead, it’s based on years of observation and a belief that energy, Qi, flows to and from organs along invisible pathways. This has led to a wide range of techniques designed to help keep your complexion as clear and healthy as can be. Face mapping is one of them. • • • • • • • • • #chinesemedicine #qi #mienshiang #facemapping #organ #organs #ancientmedicine #skincare #skinorgan #healthylifestyle #healthyskin #contentcreators #education #skinknowledge #beautyeducator #deisyinformationclub #esthetician #esthetics #alternativemedicine #bladder #facialmapping #china #facereading #mapping #dtla #usa #beauty #latinablogger #knowledgeispower #losangeles (at U.S. Bank Tower (Los Angeles)) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDM04KXnpgV/?igshid=vh09xya05fj1

Hada Labo Shirojyun Lotion?
I really want to incorporate a product with vitamin c into my routine. However, I use niacinamide in two of my products both morning and night. So, LAA is a no no because I want to avoid flushing in my skin.
With that in mind, I feel like MAP would be a good choice. I know that the Shirojyun line has MAP as well as other brightening ingredients, AND hyaluronic acid. This all sounds peachy to me. I was just wondering what y'all thought of the toner/lotion specifically?
tagging a few skincare blogs I follow for their opinions @skincarejesus @skincarelair @skinknowledge

✨Vitamin E is a key ingredient in many of our products from our body butters or masks✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨Tocopherol, or vitamin E, is a fat-soluble vitamin & is naturally occuring antioxidant, found in vegetable fats and oils, dairy products, meat, eggs, cereals, nuts, and leafy green and yellow vegetables. It is usually present as a mixture of different forms: ▪ alpha-topcoherol ▪ alpha-tocotrienols ▪ beta-tocopherol ▪ beta-tocotrienols ▪ gamma-tocopherol ▪ gamma-tocotrienols ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨Vitamin E is the antioxidant barrier in the stratum corneum and protects the lipid structures and proteins from oxidation by scavenging free radicals and hindering DNA damage and aging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Vitamin E can strengthen your skin’s defenses against the harmful impact of certain environmental factors by serving as a key ingredient in many ’anti-pollution’ cosmetics. ❗❗However, Vitamin E is NOT a substitute for sunscreen! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . . . . #NihuDictionary #VitaminE #HealthyHair #healthyskin #hair #beauty #model #cosmetics #cosmeticdictionary #dictionary #huda #makeupartist #nontoxic #nontoxicskincare #butterskin #summerskin #vitaminc #skinserum #freeradicals #botanical #consumer #detoxmasks #smoothskin #skinroutine #bodycare #skinknowledge #blacknwell #blackchemist #dermatology https://www.instagram.com/p/B0yhY-2JZtM/?igshid=1qdo0lq0ljnyx

Skincare basics
Tumblr media
5 basic skincare steps to consider. Start getting to know your face and giving it what it needs <3
1) Identify your skin type. Your skin need products and care depending on your skin type. Have a quick google if you don’t know your skin type already.
2) Have a routine and be consistent with it. Your skin ideally needs a month of consistent use of a product for it to start being fully effective and seeing results.
3) Stick to basics with your routine until you can build up to different products to tackle specific areas or problems.
-cleanse with a mild, low PH cleanser.
-Tone (not essential but can be very beneficial).
-Spot treat if needed.
-Moisturise. Lock in the hydration and protect your skin.
-Sun protection. An aspect many people (including myself oops) overlook. Especially if you are someone with hyperpigmentation
4) Do not pop or pick pimples or blemishes. I know some people have the mindset of ‘better out than in’’, but that really isn’t the case with your skin. You need to be gentle with it not pushing and squeezing. When you squeeze a spot what comes out is only 30% of the contents, the rest has been forced deeper under your skin, causing more pimples.
5) Be mindful with your diet. What you eat will show on your face. If you’re tucking into greasy pizzas and fast food you will have a greasy oily face. Your skin is your largest organ. Eating lots of fruits and veggies and drinking your water will immensely improve your skin.

About your skin issues... Checklist is basically: Were there any changes in your lifestyle recently? Moved places, new make-up, clothes, food etc.? If no, look at your skincare routine (do you have one?) there's a website called skincarisma where you can analyse the cosmetics you're using. It tells you what benefits each ingredient has or whether it's harmful to your skin. Also google the ph of your cleanser, should be 4-5.5. (btw there are skincare tumblrs like skinknowledge and skincarejesus)
no changes in anything. I cut out dairy almost a year ago and noticed how much my skin got better. I do my best to stay away from it, and I constantly drink water. No new make up(I constantly check to make sure allergen free, paraben free, etc)I’ll definitely have to check out that website along with those tumblrs! Thank you so so much!! xxx

*Skin Supplement Warning!*
                                                    Biotin.
Many supplements and vitamins, especially ‘skin, hair and nails’ ones contain Biotin. Biotin is useful for helping to strengthen your hair and to help it grow.
However it broke me the FUCK out.
Large red, under the skin pimples over my cheek. Very usual for me.
Doing a bit of research I found this is common for acne prone people like myself.
So a word of warning. If you are acne prone, oily skinned or have acne currently. Biotin could break you out. Check the ingredients of your vitamins and supplements.

Coconut oil ‘aint that great
I know I know. Everyone is raving about the many wonders of coconut oil. But from a skincare point of view, its not very helpful.
Coconut oil, and products which contain coconut oil high up on the list of ingredients, are comeogenic.
Coconut oil is comeogenic.
Comeogenic means it will clog pores.
So if you’re acne-prone, struggle with closed comodones, black heads, whiteheads. Especially cystic acne. Avoid coconut oil.
Don’t use it on your face, shoulders or chest, it’ll only aggravate your issues.
By all means put it anywhere else. I have heard its good for helping your hair and making it grow.

Top 10 Clear Skin Hacks!
1) Have a routine
Whatever specific products work for you. But a real basic routine should include cleansing your skin, toning, and moisturising/treating.
2) DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE
You’re just rubbing bacteria around and causing yourself problems.
3) Keep your hair out of your face
Your hair naturally has oils on it which can transfer onto your face and clog pores. Along with any shampoos, conditioners or products that you have put on your hair. These touching and rubbing your face will not be good.
4) Diet
For me diet is everything when it comes to my face. Adding greens, fresh fruits and veggies and reducing the junk will help, it may take a while though so don’t expect immediate results.
5) Hydration station
Aim to drink at least 2 litres or 8 cups of water a day.
6) Change your pillow case
I change my pillow case every night. Tons of oils and dead skin cell are left on your pillow every night, as well as it being a breeding ground for bacteria. Flip or change your pillow case nightly and your bedding weekly if you can.
7) Dairy Danger
There is a proven link between dairy and acne. If you can, just cut it out completely. I have been dairy free for a couple years and I can assure you it gets easier. Saying goodbye to milkshakes and cheese is hard at first though.
8) Make-up
If you can use less, or preferably none. But i know this isn’t realistic for many people. If you use a liquid foundation switch to a power one. And always take your make-up off as soon as possible.
9) Cold water
When showering right before you get out and after your face is fully cleansed rinse your face with cold water to help close your pore and prevent bacteria getting it and creating a big ‘ol pimple.
10) Stress
When you have acne or even just one awful pimple you stress. I know. I do it all the time. Try to reduce your stress levels. Stressing will cause certain hormone levels to spike and trigger break outs. Take time out for yourself, read a book, take a bath. Relax.

Thoughts on Accutane
A couple of years ago I had horrendous skin. Acne at its worst. Cysts, nodular pustules, and a permanent carpet of little bumps. And the only thing that helped me was a prescribed drug called Accutane. Accutane is a drug prescribed to treat sever, persistent acne.
But, many blogs, forums, YouTubers and figureheads in the beauty community advises against taking Accutane, and actively campaign for it to be banned. Despite Accutane being one of the most effective drugs on the market, able to quickly clear a person’s lifelong struggle with acne in a matter of weeks.
Despite it having an over 80% success rate Accutane has been discontinued in several countries and has many people wanting it banned in the ones where it is still available. Due to its vast number of extreme side effects, including: birth defects, liver failure, hearing impairments, depression, suicidal thoughts, and suicide itself. This unique effectiveness against acne coupled with its uniquely severe risks poses serious questions for dermatologists and acne sufferers alike.
It’s no wonder Accutane gets a bad rap. But from my experience it really doesn’t deserve the bad press it gets. Multiple documentaries have been made on the dramatic side effects that have destroyed and even ended people’s lives. Just google ‘Accutane’ and you will only find the horror stories and people within the beauty community begging you to never go on Accutane. But there are so few accounts of the success stories. And overall there are far more successes than failings.
Accutane does its job extremely well. The need for Accutane often comes at a time in a person’s life when they are desperate for something to help and, low because of the detrimental effects acne has on a person.
Having Accutane get rid of acne, doesn’t just give you clear skin. I can personally say it gave me my life back. I was not myself because of my acne. I stopped going to school, I stayed at home and wouldn’t see friends. I spent my 16th Birthday locked in my room waiting for all my family to go home because I refused to let them see my face. Accutane turned that all around. My skin was never better when coming of Accutane. I no longer felt inferior.
Accutane needs to stay an option. It cannot be banned. There will be other people out there who will be in the same position that I was and need Accutane as nothing else will work. Having acne has many of the same side effects on a person’s mentality that Accutane has. So why take away what could be a solution?
I am strongly opposed it being banned, knowing full well the trauma some acne suffers would have to go through without it.
