heres MY rambly black sails analysis for the day, after watching the show twice in as many months i wholeheartedly believe in the "long john silvers quote unquote missus in treasure island is max, not madi" theory

the most obvious thing, as others have pointed out, is that in treasure island long john silver runs an inn with his wife, a black woman, in bristol, which is absolutely not madi behavior-- i cannot imagine madi would take him back in the first place much less move with him TO ENGLAND-- but IS maxs exact area of expertise. but theres so many other things that cement it for me

as early as episode 2, max tries to convince eleanor to buy out the inn and run it together with her when england takes nassau back. this is her dream-- to share power over her life with a woman she loves, free of the pressures of the outside world. (youll note this also happens to be silvers dream for himself and madi. the parallels)

in season 4 shes faced with the suspiciously similar option to take a husband to be the face of her business, completely on paper, for the sake of the public eye. and she refuses! she doesnt want to give a man that kind of power over her. not only that but she desperately wants to retain some kind of truth in her identity-- she admires anne for her honesty, her courage. these are things she can rarely afford to express. in refusing a marriage of convenience, she asserts her autonomy.

But. black sails tells us over and over again that an oppressive society will always find ways to batter down these private boundaries. there is no island safe from colonial rule. mirandas peaceful house in the interior is burnt to the ground. the maroons are forced to accept a freedom that comes at the price of abandoning those still enslaved and taking part in their continued subjugation. the things it takes to make these spaces are terrible, and unsustainable, and when it comes to being gay in the 1700s there is a tightrope to walk between privilege and privacy, one that destroyed flint and the hamiltons, thats even narrower to max as a self-made woman of color.

given all that, i do not believe she can girlboss her way out of her circumstances no matter how many lessons she took from what happened to eleanor. nor do i think the show believes it. i think the political-marriage-offer plot point is another illustration of that theme-- maxs desire, and silvers desire, to build a warm, happy room in the middle of the imperial machine, without meaningfully striking out against the machine itself, is destined to be futile no matter how strong they are as individuals.

max and silver are mirror images of one another. each of them is essentially the narrator of one half of the story. it is absolutely agonizing how BOTH of them tried to convince their lovers to abandon their ambitions, to settle for a quiet life with them, and in doing so saw that relationship destroyed by their own fear of an uncertain future....

....And its even MORE agonizing to imagine them finally securing the trappings of a domestic life... but without the love. and they know the love was what mattered! theyre always going to know!!!

it bookends PERFECTLY with their alliance at the start of the series. theyre right where they started, trusting no one, pretending to be humble and harmless, planning to steal the EXACT SAME TREASURE, except now theyre 50 years old and jaded and bitter and both pining after their lost loves. silver probably pictures madi whenever he tells people about his wife. when he and max have time to themselves they talk solely about finances and nothing else. its honestly impressive how miserable this is for every single person involved. im losing my mind

Tia’s a given since she’s the prefect she’ll be in every event (being the absolute girlboss that she is)

ITS MORNING FOR ME SO I GOT ALL DAY. Well it was when I started writing, lmao.

For the main in-game events we’ve seen? None. Well, excluding Scary Monsters, Beanfest and Port Fest. But, those are like, school-wide participation with mobs so that doesn’t really count, does it? Also Master Chef/Culinary Crucible I can also see happening since that’s also a school thing. …And maybe Spectral Soiree but like, the entire school got kidnapped to sent to the ghost realm for a party, so that probably doesn’t count either. 💀

(I am very much treating them as NPCs who have virtually nothing to do with whatever the main cast do, since… well, they are NPCs in the grand scheme. …With faces.)

With existing events, it’s hard to say, because if it isn’t a schoolwide event, my brain automatically will take in the reality that they well, weren’t there. At least not as mains. But, chalk up my hesitance mostly being from my distaste of throwing characters into situations they weren’t initially present for. If I do do it, I’m very much a “if something gets added in, something else needs to be cut out” for balance reasons. With exceptions of course. I’m not hyper strict “grrr canon this canon that”, I just think having limits nets better results for creative problem solving.

…Though, If I’m reading vignettes, I do sometimes slot the boys onto faceless NPCs if it makes me lawl.

You cannot tell me that the faceless guy who tripped in Diasomnia and almost sent a plate flying into Malleus’ face wasn’t Cecil sakshshgshsvj (See: Sebek’s Tsum)

BUT… If Fairy Gala having a “Remix” taught me anything, and the many many Halloween events, it’s that completely alternate versions of previous events starring different characters can happen and just kinda be there. I think it would be very funny if they had tsums, that’d be chaotic. It’s a little easier to work with if it’s an alternate version of an existing event or say, a seperate starter concept or Hometown events.

Especially towards plebs who can’t respect good material if it bit them in the face. Aside from that gambit, the plot of this is currently murky.

I just want Cecil to the Ichabod Crane in this situation who is going to be the main brunt of an extremely elaborate prank by Idia. (He has partial inspiration from Ichabod, not huge, but I did look at him in terms of vibes.)

Emilio finally relents to his cousins pestering, and opts to return home for a big ass Carnaval. This really huge country-wide event with loud music, food everywhere, competitions, costumes and all sorts of good times. Most notable for the bedazzling lights implemented throughout. In his town it’s about celebrating light and love between others of all kinds and how it’ll shine forever or something. It’s meant to reflect the standards set by a Queen from legend who wielded a scepter whose love for others and her people was said to be able to control light itself.

This year his cousins family is spearheading the event in his town. She’s more swamped than usual since it’s her first time doing that, and wants Emilio’s help. And Emilio, being the dip he is, drags others with him. Though given who he chose, he might be trying to prove something. Also being crowned King of Carnaval is cool, maybe he wants that. Shenanigans ensue. As any hometowns go, Emilio will be explored further outside of school.

Emilio’s cousin Marisol would be formally introduced.

Himeko is honestly a little worried about your girlbossing shenanigans at first and often asks you to take breaks with her. She isn't the one to really go out for battle, so she only hears of your prowess on the battlefield from reports and always praises you for your achievements, when you come back to her.

She however scolds you sometimes for being too reckless, even if she knows that you are virtually untouchable. She's impressed by your strength, but is also worried that you might get hurt, so having you close to her often helps with that fear of hers.

She's flattered, whenever you protect her on missions. It makes her praise you and dote on you even more, which shows how proud she is of having you.

HERE WE GO!!

Sonic: He's my favourite character of all times! Such a funky fella. I love his way of thinking, (as in everyone deserves second chances and freedom is important) and of acting, with the whole attitude. He gives me a sense of freedom that i haven't felt from any other media at all! Its quite impressive honestly. I could write pages upon pages on how Sonic as a character is like the peak of literature in my eyes, but this post would get way too long. In summary tho, i like almost every aspect of Sonic the Character.

Tails: The baby! I also really love tails! I think his role as a sideckick is very endearing, and is a great balance to sonic in all possible ways. One problem with modern Tails, though. He's portrayed as a coward. And like??? That's not who he is?? Like C'mon sega.

Knuckles: He don't chuckle!! Final part of team Sonic, and Sonic's first rival! I really like the knucklehead. But as is the norm, Sega screwed him up badly on Boom. I despise that they're supposed to be the same Knuckles. Because they're not. I like Boom Knuckles, as his own character, but granted, Boom is an acquired taste.

Amy: Honorary part of team sonic! I love her! Mostly on the IDW Comics. I think they handle her excellently in there. I know that Amy is a hated character by the fanbase because most say that her only purpose is to be the "girl character love interest" and i can agree up to some point in some games, but in IDW she's sooo much better. We stan IDW Sonic.

Shadow: Yet another case of Sega making character assassination. Shadow's like, one of the most complex sonic characters there are, If not THE most complex one. And i love that! Though im very sad that Sega hasn't been able to replicate that SA2 Magic quite as well. Will SonicXShadow (heh) give him justice? Stay tuned.

Rouge: MY GIRL!! Ok so controversial opinion, Rouge's my second favourite sonic character, just because i think its hilarious that she (once) was the leader of team Dark. So She commanded a killing machine and An alien experiment. What a girlboss! 10/10 Character.

Omega: Gotta be honest, not much of an omega fan. But i really like his dynamic w/Rouge and Shadow. It's pretty sweet that they become friens :)

Cream: The other baby! I think she's the sweetest character. Like fr. I really want to see her more often on the games! Though i get why in recent games she hasn't appeared. Suddenly the adventures got way too serious. Still want her back in the games though!

Blaze: Fire princess! I fr am so salty that she isn't as much in the games. Like, what gives? She's such a successful character (With good reason btw) and you arent like, putting her in the stage?? outrageous. But yeah, i really Like Blaze. Her contrast and similarities with sonic are great! They make a great duo too.

Silver: The sweetest most unhinged boi in the sonic canon. I find it very funny that in his first appearance he was all angsty and stuff, but now he's full on optimism and sunshine. I love the juxtaposition on that behalf. Boi is cute but he can mess you up.

The Chaotix: Oh i love the found family trope. Espio's my fave for sure. He's the funny ninja, what else do you want? Though Vector and Charmy are great too. Vector has such a cool ass dad vibe. And Charmy... is Charmy. if yk yk.

And here are my arguments against my own OC that i think she'd get

- Insanely powerful monster girl

- Very Edgy Backstory™️

- Conventionally attractive (pretty, voluptuous, hourglass figure, under 30, fit body, white cough cough) + clothes that compliment her curves

- Broody sarcastic coldhearted girlboss type character

- Local OP protagonist Alucard was impressed by her, took her in and respects her (in his own way)

- Abilities that make her a special outlier in her species from what we've seen in canon (impenetrable skin, surviving silver to the heart, wolf form size)

- Good at fighting, shrugs off pain and "easily" tanks a lot of attacks

- Generally respected in her entourage (like 4 people) and dreaded as an actual obstacle by her opponents (-> could put her on a pedestal)

- Would be in the top 5 of strongest characters if we're being fr (Andercard are having a dickfight for first place)

- Strong Female Character = Mary Sue

bro literally is stuck in a floppy disk and its whole goal is to perform 'the great transcendence' and upload the game its trapped in into the web to copy itself across the entire internet in attempts to be in charge

Ultraman X propaganda:

X canonically lost his physical form and lives in Daiichi's phone. His presence caused Daiichi's phone to turn gold, instead of the standard-issue silver the rest of XIO's employees have. It's possible for XIO's scientists to send powerups to X because he lives on Daiichi's phone. There's also a couple episodes where X gets trapped in cyberspace and Dr. Gourman and friends have to design something for Daiichi to help him escape. (Dr. Gourman is the first to notice Daiichi is secretly Ultraman X. Also in the crossover movie, Daiichi and X got separated and X couldn't live on Daiichi's phone so he jumped to the nearest computer (which belonged to Naomi from Ultraman Orb, air date 2016) and began pulling up photos of Daiichi in a "Have You Seen This Nerd?" sort of way. The enemy goons saw Naomi and her cryptid hunting gang putting up missing posters for Daiichi and tore them down bc they had him captured at their crystal witch's base, a creepy haunted house. Eventually when Daiichi and X reunited as man and lil alien on his phone, they were so happy they ignored everyone else in the room. They were grateful enough to fight alongside Naomi's sad space cowboy, Kurenai Gai, in battle.

He's used the phone's vibration function a few times to try and get people's attention, and he doesn't like being turned face-down because he can't see. In order to take on a physical form he has to essentially fuse with his human partner Daichi. (also they get a power up form after Daichi nearly Dies to save him and it's rainbow themed.) While X is very chatty and enjoys talking with his partner, he's often a formless voice while they're fused.The exception being one occasion where he looks like an entire network. tldr this alien is gay he is very polite and deserves your vote.

these two would probably never get anything done bc they’d be arguing all the time in an epic war to out-sass each other

and Donna would win every time

and Nine would never admit it

if there is ANYONE that could put any Doctor in their place, it’s Donna Girlboss Noble

I’m not sure Nine could cope with Donna for a whole series just in terms of keeping up with her but I think for however long they were travelling together, it would be the funniest pairing in Doctor Who history

Twelve x Martha Jones

first of all, the racism that Ten allowed Martha to experience when he made himself human and chose the time period they’d hide in?? Twelve would NEVER, we saw how he protected Bill!!

second, she would’ve been saved from heartache with this version of the Doctor

Twelve would actually appreciate Martha, in ways that the heartbroken Ten couldnt 

the fact Martha is so smart and has such a vast medical knowledge? Twelve is ALL about it

he’d meet Einstein just to say “Martha Jones is smartest person in this room, after me.”

he has no regard for whether that’s technically accurate or not

Twelve has every faith that no matter the scenario, Martha Jones is smart enough to figure out a solution

Nine x Amelia Pond

now hear me out, this is an odd combo, but ENVISION IT

Amelia Pond would soften Nine like sun on snow, especially if they had the canon meeting of her and Eleven 

he’s more inclined to be blunt, but I think Amy would become his exception in a similar way to Twelve x Clara

like Nine will go on a rant about how stupid the human race is, but then ends it with “-except for Amelia, obviously.”

he roasts Rory to no end, the two of them are the ears and the nose

River Song slaps Nine more than any other regeneration of the Doctor and that’s canon

and if it had been Nine in a Good Man Goes To War, let’s just say his name would no longer be…

Eleven x Rose Tyler

listen listen listen, I KNOW Rose already got two regenerations of the Doctor but it will never be enough for me Im such a whore for Rose’s dynamic with the Doctor I wont take any criticism goodnight

Rose would be jealous of River to begin with but they’d become besties in no time bc River has obviously heard all about her and is like “You stared into the heart of the Tardis? Slay x”

Eleven and his boyish antics, his bubbling excitement and ridiculous dress sense would have had Rose Tyler GIGGLING

also Eleven could charm anyone, including Jackie Tyler, it’s canon she thinks he’s utterly adorable and actually keeps a supply of jammy dodgers in the cupboard just in case they pop round

also the Scottish accent saying “Rose” would scratch the brain 

similar to Twelve x Clara, except with the canon additions of Captain Jack and Mickey Smith

obviously, Captain Jack still tries to flirt with the Doctor and calls him a “silver fox” and Twelve is like >:( but internally he’s twirling his hair and kicking his feet 

and he forgets Mickey’s name entirely

You know, I feel like they could have made something more interesting with Richard’s/Knight’s S tier skin tbh. I don’t mind if ppl love it, it’s just not for me.

The more devilish or vampiric red colored and royal vibe has been done in previous essences with other characters. So personally, they could have done smth more unique.

At first I thought of his skin being based if a black knight chess piece. But the I realized the whole game chess piece as for inspo for an essence has already been done

And the I tough, what about a dark fae court and a fae court (or like a seelie and unseelie court)?!? Richard being a dark gothic fae would fit so well!!!

I mean, fae are known for being tricksters, stealing names, being proud and mischievous fuckers. That is legit Richard’s whole vibe. Also he literally stoles someone’s name and identity.

Tho tbh I do rrly like Ada’s and Emil’s A skins for the essence, they are the definition of girlboss and malewife

As for how I would imagine him visually? Idk his knight cape could be an insect wing! And his ither wing got torn off! His helmet could be some sort of tiara or crown??? Some parts of his body fade to black, covered in wiltering flowers or gothic flowers, give him elf ears, one of his eyes could be replaced with some flower that is part and spreads through his body? Or it glows like a shiny crystal?? His effects could that be of flower petals or leaves and/or butterflies. Maybe give him a black, silver and cold color palette

My Sol Dimension OCs:

Grim the Goat (He's kinda a replacement for Eggman Nega, so he's the main antagonist in my version of the Sol Dimension. He's a skeleton goat who's a wizard and basically immoral. He's SUUUPER silly tho. He runs a lil ship with his niece, Lanolin (Yeah, I throw her in because she doesn't have a place in this AU) and she's always mega stressed because Grim does the stupidest and wackiest things.)

Cove the Wren (Kinda takes the role of Tikal/Knuckles for the Sol Dimension. He lives on Sky Babylon protecting the Master Emerald. He's actually an adult, so that's why he is the main protector. The rest of the Babylonians aren't extinct though, so good for him!)

Solaris the God of Destruction (I yoinked the name!! She's the Sol Dimension's version of Chaos. She's a wisp and lives outside the Master Emerald. She takes on the shape of a mobian phoenix, and she actually has wings. She's perfect much nonverbal, but she can make sounds like cats would lol, their chirps and hissing. She's attached to Cove, since he's been guarding her so long.)

My Future Timeline OC:

Steel the Hedgehog (She's Silver's mother, and since this AU is a DADow AU... You can fill in the blanks. She's courageous and kind of impulsive. She's somewhere on the Aroace spectrum, but she fell for Shadow after he saved her once. She's kinda insane but she's a girlboss for it. She gets killed by Mephiles when Silver is an infant LOL.)

Main AU OC:

Zurui the Chameleon (She was in the Dojo that Espio grew up with, and she was one of the people who trained him. Idk if she was his mother or what. The dojo was really strict, actually abusive when people didn't meet the standard, so Espio left.)

Spirit the Hedgehog (Weak kid with a few health problems. He's the result of Project Spirit, and was made to see spirits, hence the name. He is the first successful attempt, but is physically weak because of it. Shadow rescues him and Spitfire from whoever made them, and so Spirit grows up normally, taking interest in stuff like art, literature, and mechanics. When Spirit starts seeing ghosts, he gets to interact with Maria, whose ghost was still hanging around Shadow since she hadn't moved on yet. Spirit and Maria get to interact, and they become friends, telling each other things. Scares the hell out of Shadow tho LOL. Eventually, Spirit learns how to project spirits using chaos energy, and Shadow almost CRIES LOL... HIS SISTERRRR)

Spitfire the Hedgehog (Spitfire was made to defend the lab and is more of a power type, but was taken away as an infant. As she grew up, she had to start defending Spirit, since he's weak and kinda strange lol. When Spark comes into the picture, she has to make sure Spirit doesn't get hurt, or worse. Spark only being interested in Spirit makes Spitfire insecure, since she starts to think she isn't good enough. It's okay she gets a girlfriend who's very nice. Spitfire is very energetic and a thrill seeker, she's a bit crazy but she's a good person.)

Spark the Hedgehog (The youngest and fastest of the three, made from the leftover DNA of Sonic and Shadow, but he was altered enough so he looks their age. Spark sees himself as a pawn, just a tool to be used, he believes he doesn't have autonomy and just bends to the will of who's commanding him. He was created for the sole purpose of retrieving Spirit due to Spirits abilities, but has been stopped by Spirit's family. I've thought about having something where Spark injures Spirit, and it breaks his worldview a bit)

Silvaze:

Smolder the Hedgehog (He's the heir to the throne of Soleanna (I use the name for Blaze's kingdom bc I wouldn't use it in my 06). Oldest of 3, and the one without powers. He has a physical prowess though, so that makes up for it. He's responsible and booksmart, he wants to prove himself to be a good role model and eventual ruler.)

Ash the Cat (Middle child, who was originally going to be the youngest until I made Ember, lol. She's transfem, and her parents are very supportive of her. She's currently the least fleshed out, since Ember took a lot of her concepts lol. She has psychokinesis tho! I really really need to flesh her out...)

Ember the Cat (Youngest child, she was trained to guard the Sol Emeralds, and has pyrokinesis. She also is being trained to keep relations and communication between Sky Babylon and Soleanna, becoming great friends with Tide, who is in line to be the next protector of the Master Emerald. Her and Tide end up dating btw 💕. Ember is shy but appears reserved and mature. Ember's "burning" form is called "Ignited Ember".)

Sonilver:

Cobalt the Hedgehog (Created when Silver and Sonic used the Time Stones simultaneously. They have control over time, freely passing through it. They have seen a lot of history, and has found it interesting, but hadn't truly befriended anyone. Silver eventually finds them, and offers them a choice to live with him. They eventually decide to reach out, and they do become like family to Silver, and eventually to Sonic too. Silver and Sonic aren't together tho lol. Cobalt is AMAB but is kinda genderfluid/gender apathetic and goes by all pronouns. They identify with different parts of masculinity and femininity)

Tide the Dove (The student of Cove's successor, who is going to be the guardian of the Master Emerald one day. He's shy but polite, appearing awkward at times. He had a crush on Ember for a while, but Ember actually asked him out first lol.)

Hearts the Chinchilla (Very polite and friendly, and she has a interest in baking and crochet. Spitfire fell for her and now they're girlfriends. She's very different from Spitfire, and that's why Spitfire likes her. She also gets along with Spirit.)
