HEY this is a valid feeling and impulse and you ARE ALWAYS allowed to leave, but here are some social scripts to also not be hurtful to people or leave them anxiously wondering what they did wrong:

If you CAN verbalize

"Thank you for having me over but I'll have to head out early. We should meet up again, though!"

"You can [hang out/ make yourself comfortable/have snacks] for a bit, I'll just need a moment to recharge, and I'll be right back"

"This was really great [dinner/party/hangout] but I'm pretty tuckered out now. Let me know when we can do this again!"

If you CAN'T verbalize, these are messages you can send after you've left

"Thank you so much for having had me over! I'm really sorry I had to leave early, I was feeling [overwhelmed/tired] and just needed to bounce before the good times turned bad. It was really fun, please let me know when we can this again next!"

"I really appreciate the invitation and I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer! I wasn't feeling too well and had to split. But let me know when we can meet next, I'll bring snacks!"

As an autistic myself I have a LOT of anxiety (and RSD from other conditions too) because I never know if I missed a social cue and made someone so uncomfortable they had to remove themself from the environment, so I tend to use these whenever I need to bounce myself in case other people in my life have the same anxieties. It's also good to avoid bad work/networking/formal event scenarios

john seems like he listens to mcelroy fam podcasts religiously. like just all the time. binges like ten straight episodes of sawbones with sherlock because he's a doctor and sherlock just likes learning weird shit. he and mariana listen to taz and mbmbam together for fucking sure. just... the mcelroys and john and mariana' senses of humor mesh so well. they all sit there and listen to wonderful for the serotonin after a rough case. john pointedly listens to shmanners sometimes when he's annoyed with sherlock's social interactions.
