Valentia Side Material and Translations: Resource Masterpost
This post is to organize links to side material for Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia, much of which Sacred Echoes has drawn upon for additional story and characterization details. In the case of translated material, I will link to the main translator's site; if you worked on these translations and have a Tumblr handle you'd like to be credited under as well, please message me and I'll update the post.
Art Book, Valentia Accordion
Includes concept art, full character biographies, and an official timeline. Information here is considered a primary source.
Character bios and concept art translations are hosted on Kantopia's translations blog. Additional translators assisted with individual pages and are credited therein by their Twitter handles.
Lyrics translations of the songs with vocals are available at the above link and were contributed by @mystletainn.
The official timeline was translated by @vincentasm on Serenes Forest.
Drama CD - "Foreign Skies, Daybreak Forest"
Taking place in Act 4 soon after the Deliverance crosses the Rigel border, this drama CD features Alm, Faye, Silque, Tobin, Kliff, Lukas, Forsyth, and Python, as well as three Rigelian characters not used elsewhere. Information here is considered a primary source, and this is the only quasi-official source of information about Alm's mother.
While Clive and Mathilda return to Zofia to quell dissent among the nobility in the wake of Desaix's defeat, the Deliverance are attacked by Rigelian child soldiers armed with cursed weapons. Alm's compassion and sense of justice lead him to try and reach out to these children rather than attack them with military force, and he discovers that they are orphans marginalized by brutal Rigelian customs and being used as pawns by the Duma Faithful. Alm reckons with the reality that Rigelians are not his enemies, but the systemic oppression they face from the empire and death-cult that rules over them, and through his compassion he meets some kindred spirits. Contains some really great characterizations of the Lukas/Python/Forsyth trio as well.
Text translation was done by @garmmy on their translations blog. A subtitled video playlist was created using garmmy's translations with the original audio by @fudgenomnomnom.
Valentia Comic Anthology
Includes over 100 4koma (4-panel, half-page) comics, as well as longer-form one-shots of 8 or more pages. Material here is more akin to fan comics and is thus considered a secondary source.
The 4koma have all been translated and hosted by Kantopia on their blog.
The one-shots are not all in the same place, and not all have been translated yet. Four have been done by @mystletainn a few years ago, while @hypergammaspaces is picking up the remaining chapters:
As Comrades, by Itagaki Hako - TL: mystletainn. Faye resolves to do whatever she can to help carry Alm's burdens, and brings the Ram boys along. Alm proves he loves his friends as much as they love him.
Sweet Delivery, by Watarizora Tsubamemaru - TL: mystletainn. Atlas fails to guard Mae and Leon's fresh-baked cookies, so he, Saber, and Jesse agree to gather the ingredients to replace them.
Fieldwork in Zofia, by Shiroishi Kotoni - TL: mystletainn. Taking place shortly before Act 3, Kliff ventures out to survey the lands north of Zofia Castle and encounters a certain masked knight who has more in common with him than either of them expect.
Only My Big Brother, by Kirai Yuu - TL: mystletainn. Tired of being ignored by Valbar, Leon ropes Kamui into helping him find the perfect boyfriend.
Know Your Enemy and Know Yourself, by Temo Uchida - TL: hypergammaspaces. Lukas and Forsyth try to encourage Kliff to take his combat duties seriously.
Future Wife, by Reku Hayase - TL: hypergammaspaces. Mathilda navigates her thoughts about her future with Clive as she reconciles Clair's expectations of her. Lukas is there too.
Let's Go To Ram Village, by Kazuomi Mochizuki - TL: hypergammaspaces. Translation is in-progress. Clair, having just met the Deliverance, asks to see what life in Ram Village is like, and Alm agrees to show her. Faye isn't too happy about this, but finds common ground with Clair by the end.
There are at least three more chapters yet untranslated which will be linked here as they are completed.
Rise of the Deliverance DLC
This was a set of four story maps set in the year-and-a-half or so before the events of Act 1. Focused around Clive, Fernand, Mathilda, Clair, Lukas, Forsyth, and Python, this added supports and memory prisms between these characters as well as story map dialogue. Scripts, memory prisms, and additional support transcriptions were found on a Serenes Forest forum post by user godzillahomer.
Gaiden manga
One-volume manga by Masaki Sano and Kyo Watanabe, published by Asuka Comics DX. Partial scans have been found on the Fire Emblem (Fandom) Wiki, but no complete scans or translations have been found as of this post. This is the one where Desaix stabs Kliff to death (hence Kliff joking about "maybe we can all get impaled on the same lance" in SoV). Many characters are entirely absent, while both Deen and Sonya appear in Celica's party.
Gaiden novelization
A light novel with a few illustrations throughout. Based heavily on the author's personal playthrough, Silque thus features prominently as she basically hard-carried Alm's party. Neither English FE wiki has a page about this adaptation. I have an acquaintance who owns it but I'm not aware of any full scans/translations available as of this post. This is the one where Kliff and Silque are half-siblings with the same father.

Trying to catch up on things and I'm a little confused - how many manga series does Tiger & Bunny have?
I have 7/8 volumes of Tiger & Bunny in English, but your recent ask mentions you're working on volume 7 of what you're translating as well, which from what I gather *has* no english release(?) so I assume it's a different series??
Plus the Anthologies exist, and the The Beginning sides A and B... are there more? What is happening I'm so lost, why is this so underappreciated in the US and hard to learn about lol
YEAH SO. Here's what's officially available in English, to the best of my knowledge:
Tiger & Bunny by Mizuki Sakakibara (9 volumes)
Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning by Tsutomu Oono (2 volumes)
Tiger & Bunny Comic Anthology 2-in-1 (2 volumes) — These are compilations of unofficial 4-komas and short stories that were originally published in Japan by Asuka Comics DX as 4 individual volumes; to this day I'm baffled (although pleased) that this got brought over while Ueda's series was apparently passed over
Aaaaaand...yeah. That's it.
The manga series we're currently failing at translating is by Hiroshi Ueda. Officially it's called Tiger & Bunny: The Comic, but since it once ran in the Miracle Jump magazine you'll often see me refer to it as just "MJ" series" or some variation thereof. (This has fucked me over now that Tiger & Bunny: The Comic 2 runs online for a different publication.**) Whereas Sakakibara's series retells the story of season 1's first cour (albeit with some changes/additions that were apparently discarded ideas from the anime), Ueda's has completely original stories written by Erika Yoshida (one of the anime's screenwriters) that jump around in the series chronology. Frex, one of the earliest stories (both in terms of this comic series and the anime's storyline) explains why Ivan and Pao-Lin aren't around in episode 5 for Barnaby's birthday surprise (with the rest of the chapter showing them trying to make up for it), and then there's also one that's set a month or so before The Rising. Stuff like that.
**Or maybe it's still kinda the same but under a different name? Miracle Jump was previously known as Monthly Young Jump before its rebrand in 2011, and then the website that The Comic 2 runs on is Tonari no Young Jump, soooo.
Regarding Sakakibara's series, there are 4 supplementary volumes that were released collecting the bonus content that ran alongside that series when it was initially running in Newtype Ace, both published by Kadokawa Comics A:
Tiger & Bunny-Chan by Kotoni Shiroishi (2 volumes) — Features primarily 4-komas with a few short stories. And the birth of the entity known as Kittyface Pao-Lin.
Tiger & Bunny Sky High by Virginia Nitouhei (1 volume) — Four short stories featuring Sky High.
Tiger & Bunny Origami by Yanagi Yukisuke (1 volume) — Six short stories featuring Origami Cyclone.
No clue what's been going on with Sakakibara's serialization of the second season, though — haven't been following it.
For the more general unofficial-but-also-official anthologies, BOY HOWDY THERE SURE ARE A LOT... Aside from the 4 that got localized, I currently have 9 in my collection:
Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning Comic Anthology published by DNA Media Comics (1 volume)
Tiger & Bunny Comic Anthology published by DNA Media Comics (3 volumes; missing volume 1)
Tiger & Bunny 4-Koma Kings published by DNA Media Comics (3 volumes)
Tiger & Bunny Official Comic Anthology published by Frontier Works (1 volume; "official" here is written as 公式)
Tiger & Bunny Anthology Comic Go! Go!! Tiger & Bunny published by Movic (3 volumes; missing volumes 1 & 2)
Tiger & Bunny Official Anthology Extra published by Asuka Comics DX (1 volume)
I do have some scattered scanslations on hand from one or two of these volumes (from back in the T&B LiveJournal community days, ha), but before I potentially share them I need to sort out which volumes they actually belong to and make sure that any appropriate credit is retained.
Hope this is helpful!

Polishing a King by Shiroishi Kotoni
Dino: “Woah!”
Dino: “This is a good ore. No complaints about the quality or the size. This one’s worth polishing.” Noctis: “Yeah, good. We had to go through a lot to find it.”
Gladio: “It was your fault that it took that long!” Noctis: “Huh?!” Ignis: “You are as always in the habit of rushing in headlong, and furthermore, your wandering about and searching without a plan caused us to be plagued with numerous battles.” Prompto: “I can’t stick up for you this time.” (Little text: “Sorry.”) Noctis: “HUH?!”
Noctis: “Is that right.” Prompto: “Aw, he’s sulking!” Ignis: “Terrible.” Gladio: “Is he a toddler?” Dio: “Uh, I got another job for you, though.”
Ignis: “Yes, that won’t be a problem. Let us have it.” Dio: “Are you sure? You’re already in the middle of a pretty tough journey...right?”
Ignis: “It may stand to benefit us as well. Noct, stand up.” Noctis: “All right, all right. Hands off.” Gladio: “Carrying out what you’ve decided to do is an important thing.” Noctis: “I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it or anything, man.”
Dino: “That’s our next king, huh.”
Noctis: “All right, wiped ‘em out.” Ignis: “As I was saying about rushing in headlong...” Prompto: “Sure, but hey, he took care of it easy.” Ignis: “There is a plan to being your support as well. Can you not act with more consideration?” Noctis: “That’s you guys’s job.” Gladio: “Hey.” Noctis: “Oh hey, isn’t that it? Everything went fine this time!” “Noct! There’s one more!”
Noctis: “Wha.”
“Hopefully the pain will be a lesson to you.” Prompto: “Ahahaha! That bump’s straight out of a manga!” Noctis: “That’s without an elixir.” Gladio: “I said it’s a lesson!”
Ignis: “I may be repeating myself, but you rely overmuch on Warp Strikes. Running out of MP and becoming isolated is a dangerous pattern.” Noctis: “You’re the one who made dinner, and now you’re making me lose my appetite.” Gladio: “Get your head on straight. He’s worried about you! It’s fine when you’re just with us, but how are you gonna be somebody you can be proud of when you meet up with Lady Lunafreya?!” Noctis: “Er,”
Noctis: “Then, I’m gonna try to do my best...”
Ignis: “That...was an unexpected reaction...” Gladio: “Yeah, it wasn’t honest or anything, though... NOCT, BE HONEST (serious face)” Noct: “C c c cut it out! That’s why I keep taking on all these super hard quests, is all!” Prompto: “Ahaha, you are bright red.”
Prompto: “Everybody’s in a pretty youthful mood.” Noctis: “Youthful, huh.”
Noctis: “I have a right to celebrate my youth, don’t I...”
Noctis: “Ah- sorry, sorry. I said something weird! Hrm.” Noctis: “Huh?”
“A Blue Moonstone!”
Dino: “No mistake, it’s the real thing. It’s hard to even look at it. C, can I buy...but, I mean, just holding it now...” Noctis: “Take it.”
Dino: “Wha?!” Noctis: “We just happened to pick it up.” Noctis: “Handling this kind of stuff is what you take pride in yourself for, right?” Noctis: “So, do what you want with it. Hey, guys, let’s go eat.”
Ignis: “Is it really so valuable? Well, go ahead and keep it. You could barely contain your interest.”
Dino: “Inside the Moonstone, there’s a beautiful blue light that makes you think of the nighttime.” Dino: “But polishing it up might take some real elbow grease.” Dino: “Fact is, the stone’s real easy to break. It’s delicate, and there’s a lot of fiddly parts to handling it.” Dino: “I’m glad I got my hands on it, but now how should I polish it to bring out the potential...” Ignis: “Hm.”
Ignis: “Ah, sorry. I had a notion. The polishing is essential.” Ignis: “If possible, not only simply for the fulfillment of his role.”
Ignis: “The path we walk together, as well as the detours we take, and our silly memories as well,” Ignis: “One by one, they polish him...or so I believe.”
"Huh?”
Prompto: “Hey, that’s the thing from before.” Gladio: “It’s his masterpiece. Once he finished it, he gave it to him as a farewell gift. It’s a good luck charm for the trip.” Noctis: “He has some weird good points, that guy.”
Noctis: “He said, ‘You let me ride along on your detour.” “Huh? What’d he mean by that?” “But that’s pretty extravagant, putting three diamonds around it.” “Look how pretty he polished the stone in the middle.” “Hm, he calculated how the light of each stone would reflect on the others.” “He really is devoted to this stuff.”
Noctis: “Hmmmm.” Noctis: “Yeah, it’s not bad.”

what are you guys favorite's tnb characters?
Sakaki (TLH’s translator minion) isn't the type of guy to latch onto any one particular character in whatever he watches/reads/etc., so he likes all the Heroes about the same! Though he says that he has a lot of fun translating Kotetsu's lines.
As for me (Sora, the member of TLH who drinks way too much Mountain Dew), well...there's a reason that TLH's profile pic and banner is this:
(a bit of context: Because I RP Pao-Lin on DW, I always comb through official art & images with an eye towards potentially making icons out of them. As I was going through the 4-komas and supplementary one-shots accompanying the initial serialization of Mizuki Sakakibara’s adaptation of s1c1, I began to notice A Certain Magical Pattern with how this other artist — Kotoni Shiroishi — drew Pao-Lin...
Turns out that the only time Shiroishi actually drew Pao-Lin properly was in the one-shot story where she was sitting with Yuri and complaining about useless drunk Hero adults. Even in other one-shots where the other Heroes are drawn normally, Pao-Lin is always just this kittyfaced fae creature.
I can’t speculate on Shiroishi’s reasons behind this decision...but it is an oddly appropriate one regardless.
See the full banner image here. :3)
