Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island coming to PC this winter - Gematsu

Spike Chunsoft will release dungeon RPG Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island for PC via Steam this winter, the company announced. A specific release date and price will be announced at a later date.

The base game will feature all free updates previously released for the Switch version. The paid downloadable content “Plus Pack” will also be available at launch, as well as the digital original soundtrack, which features 109 tracks totaling over 330 minutes.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island first launched for Switch on January 25 in Japan and February 27 worldwide.

Story

A few months after their previous adventure in Tsukikage Village… Shiren the Wanderer and Koppa, his talking ferret partner, received a vision of a distant land and a girl in distress. It led them to the mysterious Serpentcoil Island. But they’re not alone. Rumors speak of lost pirate gold hidden away within the depths of Serpentcoil Island, and a powerful monster at its highest mountain peak, said to hold an exquisite treasure in its belly. Adventurers and warriors have flocked from all over the realm, eager for a chance at fortune. What is the connection between the mystery girl and the monster? What is the truth behind the secrets and treasures scattered throughout the island? A new adventure for Shiren and Koppa begins!

The “Mystery Dungeon” Awaits! – In the Mystery Dungeon, the layout of its many floors, the tools you obtain within, and the presence of both friends and foes are different every time you enter. The situation changes each time, so it’s up to you to prepare and adapt to unexpected challenges as they appear. Arm yourself with knowledge of the dungeon’s threats, collect useful resources, and gather allies to make it through. Strive to reach the dungeon’s deepest depths and highest summits!

Convenient Gameplay Features – Take advantage of useful features designed to make your experience smoother and more enjoyable. Important functions include being able to assign multiple projectiles and magic staves to a hotbar for ease of access or the ability to track your own steps on the mini-map.

Online Rescues! – Should a player collapse in the middle of their dungeon adventure, they can call on other players for a Rescue to get them back on track. Rescued players can pick up right where they left off without losing any progress. There are plenty of new online features to expand the range of gameplay.

About the Downloadable Content “Plus Pack”

Ten new dungeons will be added to the adventures of Shiren and his companions on Serpentcoil Island. In addition, you can play Sacred Tree as Shiren’s partner Koppa and the swordswoman Asuka! You must progress through the story in the main game Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island in order to unlock these gameplay elements.

Such has apparently been the case for the most recent entries in this series as well and is what the team at Spike Chunsoft are most directly addressing with its next installment: Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. We were recently able to have good hands-on time with the game, and it’s looking like the developers’ efforts on that front are paying-off. This new Shiren offers a lean and focused roguelike, dungeon-crawler experience, one that’s likely to please longtime fans and serve as a no fuss jumping-on point for newcomers.

If we want another Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, we need to buy Shiren the Wanderer to prove to TPC that it will sell.

Straight from the devs themselves (1:44:09) So please give Shiren the Wanderer 6 a try when it comes out tomorrow if you can afford it, giving it high sales will send a message.

Just thought I'd mention it to PMD fans who have never tried SMD or even CMD. If Spike Chunsoft can show that SMD6 sells well, PMD5 or a remake of PMD2 might be in the works.

Yesterday I started playing shiren 6 (Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery of Serpentcoil Island). So far, it has lots of classic shiren goodness that I know from shiren 1 and 3 (I met Asuka!). However, I do find the rules of gameplay to be significantly more difficult than other mystery dungeon games like Pokemon, Torneko, and even shiren 3. I'm not sure how far I'll be able to get, so I do think it's kind of cool how the side plots progress as you die a bunch of times lol.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island DLC ‘plus Pack’ Part 1 launches September 10 in the west - Gematsu

Following its release in Japan today, Spike Chunsoft announced that the first part of the Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island downloadable content “plus Pack” will launch on September 10 in the west. The second part will launch day and date with the Japanese release on October 31. The full package containing both parts will cost $14.99. Each part cannot be purchased separately.

Additionally, the third free content update is available now, which implements a number new elements, including three new dungeons and the Gear Rack where you can display weapons and shields.

■ Downloadable Content “plus Pack”

Part 1 adds Koppa as a playable character, and Part 2 adds Asuka. In the Sacred Tree mode, you’ll be able to select a total of two new playable characters. Part 1 features Koppa the Talking Ferret. Although Koppa cannot inflict damage with attacks, he moves at double speed. Since Koppa cannot equip any gear, you’ll advance through the dungeon using special abilities like Burrow and Frantic Fart, which consume Fullness. In Part 2, you’ll get Asuka. Additional details to be announced.

Koppa

A ferret who travels together with Shiren. He is a “talking ferret” that understands human language. *Koppa can be used in the Sacred Tree trials after unlocking Tatsumi Shiren and progressing through the story.

Asuka

She is a wandering swordswoman who is old friends with Shiren and Koppa. She has come to Serpentcoil Island for a specific reason and is reunited with them.

10 New Dungeons

There will be a total of 10 new dungeons: five in Part 1 and five in Part 2. In Part 1 of the “plus Pack,” you’ll find dungeons such as Forest of Frugality, where your items are swapped with each floor you move to, and Peachy Trap Domain, where utilizing traps and transforming into monsters is essential. In Part 2 of the “plus Pack,” we’ll introduce a high-difficulty dungeon called Soul of Serpentcoil Island, which surpasses the game’s most difficult dungeon, Heart of Serpentcoil Island.

“plus Pack” MSRP: $14.99 (includes both Part 1 and Part 2; Part 1 and Part 2 cannot be purchased individually). *Main game is required to play the “plus Pack” season pass paid downloadable content.

■ Third Free Content Update Introduces New Features Available Now

These free dungeons can be played after clearing Serpentcoil Island and progressing through the story.

Go Go Dungeon

A short dungeon with five floors. Monsters get suddenly stronger with each floor. If you clear them consecutively, it will be recorded in the dungeon description.

Wanderers’ Highway

A dungeon featuring Companions and Roamers, easily identifiable items, and narrow floors with good visibility.

Quietude of Serpentcoil Island

A more difficult dungeon based on Heart of Serpentcoil Island.

Gear Rack

Display weapons and shields you have acquired in the newly added Gear Rack, available at the Item Holder in Shukuba Beach. You can take gear from the rack any time.

Additional adjustments and improvements have also been made.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is available now for Switch.
