BNHA 420: Nothing About This is 'Okay'

It never fails.

After BNHA 420, I'm definitely done. The only thing that's stopping me from being OFFICIALLY done is the sunken cost fallacy. And some nostalgia in that I used to LOVE BNHA. I mean I still do, I love early BNHA, but the ending is really bad.

This last chapter pretty much did everything I feared. And I was just about to eat a slice of humble pie when it SEEMED like the author faked out the idea that Eri's Rewind would be utilized. But as it turns out... I WAS RIGHT! XD They used her after all.

For once I am not happy to be right. Because what went down was just so WRONG.

Because Eri almost seems GLAD to be used. And these so-called heroes are ENCOURAGING it. She literally mutilated herself just because she thought it would 'help' Deku and the others. This child hurt herself, a child way, way younger than the high-school aged 'heroes', hurt herself. And nobody's worried about it. Not even Aizawa! I don't count that look of shock as worry, otherwise he would have been a lot more upset with her.

But no, he just accepted what this little girl did to herself. No moral qualms about it whatsoever.

Using Eri no matter what was always going to be horrible, but the way it's been done is even more horrible than I could have ever imagined. And it has an extra horrible implication.

Hurt yourself to help people, and let that person hurt themself, even if they're SIX YEARS OLD because it's a 'rational' decision. That is such bullshit btw, how in the hell is that 'rational'? That's actually extremely concerning and yet nobody is even concerned, they just think it's a heroic act? My ass.

I'm still pissed that this little moeblob is truly an example of a perfect little victim who just seems innately good even though she really shouldn't be after everything she's been through. It makes ZERO sense and I really hate it.

I really don't like Eri or her role in this arc as many others are saying now, and I never have. People love to give me flak for it, but I don't care anymore. This is definitely the last straw for me and it just validated that my concerns were right all along.

An adorable little plot device that was always meant to be used for Deku and the heroes. Even though she was used by Overhaul, it apparently makes it 'okay' if the heroes use her because they're heroes. If anything, it not only makes them just as bad as Overhaul, it actually makes them WORSE than Overhaul.

Overhaul at least never pretended that what he was doing to Eri was okay, but the heroes are such hypocrites that they're using her too and calling it 'rational' and an act of heroism on her part. It's not.

And the worst part is the fandom seems to believe that this makes Eri 'so good' when no, it's deeply concerning for a child to do such a thing to herself. Her actions should NOT be praised, and I don't like the kid, but that doesn't mean I want to see her hurt herself!

It's not okay. None of this is okay. And I am once again, really not okay with this.

First off, Yaz has just like, apologized for being an absolute d!ck - which, she kinda was ngl - and honestly I feel for this girl still. She did something right an absolute value of ONCE, notices it went well, then overdoes the HELL out of it trying to do more right things but inevitably ends up screwing everything up. I swear to jesus they really did make her the most relatable character ever. And look at her face in the first few frames. Girlie looks so sad and regretful.

And when Sammy goes in to hug her, I'm 110% convinced Yas was thinking Sammy was going to attack her or something. She has her arms up when Sammy gets to her, and going off the theory she was definitely not expecting a hug, it kinda makes me think it was a subconscious self-defence action which is just...sad. There's like, genuine fear in her eyes, girlie who hurt you :(((

And then she realizes it's a hug and for the first few moments, you can just see this "Oh...we're still okay. You still want to hug me uwu." which quickly turns into this beautiful shy smile Yaz gets whenever she's around Sammy.

Then because Netflix has ZERO chill, Sammy just pulls her closer and kinda nuzzles into her neck which is just the sweetest. And Sammy's a generally touchy person, but when she hugs Yaz it's just different.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of your thoughts on Disney movies and I was wondering what you thought of the movie Enchanted(assuming you have seen the movie xD)? I rewatched it recently and I really enjoyed it(I personally like that even though Giselle does evolve throughout the movie, her wish of finding true love stays the same) so I was curious to know your thoughts :)

Enchanted.

Morgan is the kid that represents Disney’s audience. Robert is the well-meaning parent of that kid, who is missing the point of the Disney movies. Giselle is the Disney movie.

I love it. It’s so good. It ranks right up there with Mary Poppins, in my mind, as Disney getting itself right.

Disney has been accused of two things, prominently. On one side, you have people being like “oh Disney doesn’t have any courage to do new things, they’re just bowing to whatever the culture says, they’re remaking everything, etc.” That’s nowadays.

But in the early 2000s, when Enchanted was released, it was much more punk rock and edgy and popular to criticize Disney for not being “feminist” enough, for having characters who are stupid or silly—“what, they fall in love in just one day? What, they sing about their feelings? Look at all the dippy magic in their movies! Ha! Corny! Cheesy! Kiddie! Gag me!”

But then Disney whips out Enchanted.

Enchanted is Disney saying “Yeah our princesses have undying faith in love, and to them, magic is normal, and that’s a good thing, and our world needs more of it.”

Giselle is this character who is (at first glance) the typical Disney Princess: that is, she’s all about faith. Having a dream of the special someone you’re destined to be with is one thing, but believing he’s out there in real life and you’ll find each other? You kind of have to believe in a higher power (fate, destiny, a horse, a wishing star, God) making that happen to get there. And then, what comes with faith, is this positive, joyful, innocent happiness that she carries everywhere.

When she meets somebody new? She trusts them to help her. When she calls to vermin? They answer her and befriend her. When she gets lost? She trusts her friends or her Prince will come find her. No need to be suspicious, to pretend to be something she’s not, or to despair; everything will work out, because life is full of wonderful things happening, and she knows that love exists and that love is often directed toward her—so why worry?

That’s so Disney. (The REAL Disney.) “Maybe something wonderful will happen.”

Enchanted celebrates that ideology by having her teach it to a guy who is from our world—and he’s basically the opposite of Giselle in every way.

He’s been hurt by someone he thought loved him (his ex wife.) He works with people who used to trust each other and spends all day helping them legally dismantle their once-loving relationships. He has his own girlfriend, but he is way too uptight and controlling to take the next step with her—because he’s afraid. Afraid, afraid, fear, fear, the opposite of faith.

Giselle has that belief in the good, the beautiful, the true, in the world. Robert has zero belief. He thinks that kind of faith is just going to get everyone hurt by the cold hard ‘real’ world. But she teaches him that the most real things in the world are the good, the beautiful, the true…

She really does love him truly, there really is magic, and those two facts really do have power. That he’s the one who hasn’t been seeing things 100% “how they are,” because he leaves love and faith out of the picture.

…and we have to talk about what he teaches her. Which is that there’s something worth getting angry about and protective of—before him, none of her beliefs were challenged. I really think by getting angry with him specifically because he refuses to take that leap of faith and believe in anything (which is exactly what his current girlfriend is angry with him about), she realizes that she can be angry with him, that she can disagree with him—and like him anyway. That it’s a choice, to love someone—which is what everyone thinks fairy tale princesses don’t have, and they couldn’t be more wrong.

Meeting a man and finding out enough about him on your first day to love him isn’t “boy meets girl, therefore they must end up together.” It’s her, knowing what is good, being insightful enough enough to see it in him even in a brief interaction, and then what ladies and gentlemen? Choosing to love him. So there’s Giselle, proving us all wrong about fairy tale princesses again.

I think it’s so good, because while he does help her to think more deeply and realize things about herself, he doesn’t change that joyful, faithful part of her. He just deepens it. It’s like a real life object lessons why “compare and contrast” is such an effective way to exercise your belief in something. Giselle believes in true love. Robert doesn’t. But she’s never met someone who doesn’t. By interacting with someone who’s trying his best, but is getting it wrong, she has a better appreciation for what she already knew was right.

I mean you could say “no she just realized that she has a right to be angry, women don’t have to be positive all the time” but that’s totally out of context. What’s she angry about? She’s angry that he keeps refusing to have faith, when she knows it would be good for him. It’s anger, for something worth being angry about.

And the songs are so good.

“That’s How You Know” is such a good song to refute critics of Disney Princesses and explain faith. Faith is believing what you know to be true and acting on it regardless of how you feel in the moment. In ‘That’s How You Know,’ Giselle is proving that princesses do actually need that truth component to have faith. It’s not blind faith.

It’s Ariel saying “I know humans are good because Truth 1: they make beautiful things, Truth 2: I saw one risk his life to save an animal, so I’m going to choose to love him.”

It’s Belle saying, “I know the Beast looks vicious, but Truth 1: he’s kind, he gave me a library and my freedom, Truth 2: he’s saved my life, and even though I’ve seen him break furniture and fight wolves, I’ve also seen him try to eat with a spoon and dance with me gently, so I’m choosing to love him.”

It’s Jasmine saying “I know this Prince Ali lied to me once already, but Truth 1: he saved my life and shared that he knows how I feel, and Truth 2: he keeps showing me the new things I want to experience without letting me get hurt in the process, so I’m going to trust him.”

It’s Snow White saying “I know I’m homeless in the woods and my only caretaker is trying to murder me, but Truth 1: I’m engaged to a Prince who promised to give his heart to me, so I’m not going to act despairing and fearful.”

Before the song starts, Robert is assuring Giselle that his girlfriend Nancy knows he loves her. But he doesn’t tell her all the time. He doesn’t do anything to show her. Because that would be vulnerable, and he’s a self-protective guy. Self-protection is the opposite of selflessness, and selfless action is love. So Giselle is telling him, “you have to do something, love is an action, and that action shows Nancy a truth she can base her faith, faith in your love for her, on.”

Not to…over-analyze a really catchy song.

But they’re all like that. This is the whole movie. The whole movie is Giselle being the Disney movie, walking and talking, proving the people who don’t get Disney movies wrong.

It is that deep!

And guess what? Robert, the guy who doesn’t get Disney movies? He falls in love with Giselle, the walking talking Disney movie. So there.

We haven’t even talked about the villains or Pip or Edward or Nancy, but they’re all amazing, they’re all perfect for this movie, but I’ll save it for another post.

I love Enchanted.

Hello Moon,

Connie has always struck me as the type of guy who gets on slightly better with girls than he does with men, such as with his friendship with Sasha and all that, and I could see Him, Pieck, and Annie regularly getting together.

Maybe Pieck has a movie night where they do chick flicks and rom-com musicals. Connie would be the first to arrive with all the snacks, singing along loud and proud to every song.

I can see Connie, Annie, and Pieck regularly sitting together at lunch, talking office gossip, whether it be telling Pieck that the minister they just met with spent most of the meeting trying to look at her ass or warning Annie that the new intern has the hots for Armin and she needs to SHUT IT DOWN!

I can also see Connie being present when Annie selects wedding dresses; having been present in several of Armin's drunken rants about why he loves Annie, he would provide invaluable insight toward helping her find a dress that Armin will adore.

I could also see Annie and Pieck lovingly blackmailing or bribing him for intel on what Armin and Jean plan for special occasions like their birthdays or anniversaries. Maybe one time, Connie lets it slip that Armin is getting a dessert from a high-end bakery for Annie’s birthday when she offers to introduce him to the daughter of the baker she regularly frequents whom she knows he has been eyeing. While he curses himself for telling her about the cake, he can take solace in not telling her the whole plan: Armin is taking her on a beach picnic where he plans to propose to her.

Hello again!

I'm a big fan of the idea that post-canon Pieck grows close to Connie first... because he's just so easygoing and friendly, you see? She finds it easy to get along with him and strike up conversations and hobbies - Connie's just very warm like that. The two become very thick friends, often getting into loads of trouble haha xD

And Connie, having zero fear of anybody, including Annie, and also having a "history" with her, effortlessly slips into this "I've-got-your-back-and-also-up-for-anything" brother figure for her. He notices when she's not feeling good, he's always ready to support her - he's just very cool and loud and neat! He's annoying enough when Aruani have fights that they don't really get to act all "tough" and "detached" and "mad" the way they'd planned lmaooo.

So I can see Connie becoming very close with the two girls, yeah. Slightly unrelated, but I also think Pieck's friendship would come to matter a lot to him and Jean. She settles between the both of them the way Sasha did, and for her too, the boys are a much-needed source of comfort, the way Porco and Zeke were to her. Don't get me wrong, none of them are replacements. But it's like a puzzle piece finding another place to fit into, even if a little wonkily.

Ngl, Éngel probably is very slightly luckier than Lawfully Kidnapped Wifey, because in the grand scheme of things, all she has to do is to hold her breath and outlive König The Heretic and she'll regain her halo and wings after a little while of repenting and then she's back to enjoying her life again being spotted in random forests. While IOFAB darling has to deal with König of The Flesh and Blood (I'm having fun with doing Arknights Alter names) for the rest of her life.

I can't imagine being stuck inside the house forever, man 😭😭😭 No amount of forest walks, garden walks, and touching grass will replace ACTUALLY being outdoors and talking to your friends about your hyperfixations for HOURS. The helper can't take care of me in that way cuz they can't even understand me.

Imagine being able to have somewhat financially stable adult money and still not be able attend cons and watch theater musicals live on stage or plain shopping random shit u like because some extremely selfish middle aged man decided that “yea I want that. She my pet wife now” I'd summon Mahoraga on him fr fr😭 My dreams of watching Wicked live on stage is going to come crashing down like how that building fell on IOFAB reader .

I don't think any of them is luckier 🤔 she's an Angel, so she's like, a conglomerate's daughter who's taken away from the comfort of her home. Hi hello that Yume Nikki Ado post scratched a special itch™️ in my brain so if you don't mind me, I'll ramble a bit.

So most likely no there won't be a specific explication of what's going with Ado as per usual, but I feel like there could be some themes going on there.

Considering she's the only human among whimsical creatures, she probably does feel alienated from everyone else. Maybe they could be vague interpretation of real people on her life, but practically stripping any sort of nuance from them to mostly be these silly creatures who she can just play with all day.

Probably has a possession/dark matter motif going around there for obvious reasons, but since you're making the crystal gun the equivalent to the knife and canonically it repels dark matter, there can be some interesting concept in there. Like possession is sort of the equivalent to whatever happened to her.

Now I've been thinking about the chars, personally I'd make Monoko Gooey cuz my gijinka is inspired of her but there's many other options.

Though the one I'm interested in is Uboa and Poniko. On all accords, Poniko is just a normal human like Madotsuki till you trigger Uboa who then sends you to the shadow realm™️, and I've been thinking who tf could it be, all I know is that the shadow realm™️ reminds me of Miracle Matter/Zero's stages.

I have so many brain worms but I don't wanna bother you about it lolol

(My other thought, at least for the "the Kirby series is all a delusion happening in Adeleine's head" story, was to give her a palette knife, but that triggered my own brain worms - for Ib! XD)

Seeing some of the landscapes take on Dark Matter traits reminds me of...ah, dang. There's no way I'm going to be able to find it again on my own but some savvy fans might remember this gorgeous (yet painful) series of pics a fan drew of various "bad endings" to several of the games game? (The Dream Fountain dried up, the Halberd crashing w/ Kirby in it, etc) and the DL3 one had all the Animal Friends turned into these Dark Matter monstrosities while Ado was huddled up against her sketchbook or something similar.

Basically, like that is what I'm picturing.

If you were looking to "cast" an Ado Nikki, the easiest (and most predictable route) would be to align the girls + Masada-sensei with the 64 gang. Though you're right about Kyukyu-kun and Void. XD

My brain is torn on wanting to place Kirby and Dedede as the mono sisters, because of Kirby's Dream Land being in b/w on the Gameboy, but Meta Knight is more Monoe-like than Dedede...

As for Poniko + Uboa, Poniko would almost have to be the Fairy Queen. She looks similar, with the same hair and eye color and very similar in-game proportions, fulfilling that "Oh, she's a human like me" but then you hit the light switch and...

Ok so I finished Dawntrail a couple of days ago, and I got so many thoughts about it, things about it I loved, things I didn't vibe with, thoughts of what I both hope and fear will happen next, so prepare for a ramble as this will prolly get long xD MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR DAWNTRAIL DOWN BELOW!!!

Where do I even begin? I got so many throughts about literally everything it's hard to decide where to start, but think I will start with what I loved with this expansion overall and then go from there:

The graphic update is so good, everything looks so nice, the new zones and towns are amazing, all the zone music and music overall this expansion is a fucking banger there is no music I dislike which is amazing, the dungeons and trials, except for the last two for me, was so good, fun mechanics and bosses that is harder but not impossible! Most of the characters were so good and interesting and I loved to get to know them all!

But one issue I had with the expansion as a whole and not just the second half of it, where pretty much all my issues are tbh, is that the voices or rather the voice deliveries this expansion was really weird for the english voices, it felt like the voice direction or the mixing was very off and every character was affected. Like there were several moments Graha or any of the other scions spoke and I got all ??? that's not how you usually sound like what is going on?? And then there is Wuk Lamat, love her voice af, but there were many moments where I felt she just needed to push a bit more especially in emotional moments, her crying is fine but when she needed to get loud and yell it just didn't work, but I feel it's more because of the voice direction and mixing than the actual voice actor. And she isn't the only one though and this has been a issue I feel since the patches for Endwalker, something is really off!

And not to mention that the translation and subtitles are very off, they gotten so very bad since the patches, as my older sister plays in japanese but with english subtitles, and she understands japanese well enough to notice when the characters says more than is subtitled which really sucks. And there was allot of that in the patches, an example when Zero says to thank everyone she says their names in japanese but not in english, and there were moments here in Dawntrail that happened too, don't remember them atm tho since it was a bit since me and my sis talked about it, which sucks, feels like we who play in english are missing out on things all because things just isn't translated properly.

Then there is the msq, I absolutely adored everything until lvl 95 after the first story was done where we crowned Wuk Lamat dawnservant etc, mostly everything between 90-95 was perfect to me, great pacing, great characters, fun bosses and dungeons. The small critiques I got is that we barely spent time at the moblins they didn't even get any voice scenes, and that I wish the like rivalry we were meant to have with Thancred and Urianger thanks to them working for and supporting Koana instead of Wuk Lamat could been stronger. I would had loved a instance of us maybe fighting or just something more there.

And then there is the whole trading part with the Pelopelo, forgot their names the small duck faced ppl, where you are meant to trade things up for more expensive stuff, loved it love the UI they had for it and so on but wish they could gone a bit further with it, like they could have let us fail properly and mess up for example, that if we choose wrong here and there we would been forced to start over at a certain point, just something more there and it would been perfect!

But those are the only things I had issue with when it comes to the first part of the expansion, now to the second where most of my grievances lies and also my fears for what will come next:

First of shiiooni the cowboy place, the story there was truly what you call filler, which I get we can't always have something high stakes thing happening, not always needed either and things was brewing in the background, but I wish there had been more to the story there just it was very bland, something more could have happened there and instead it feels a bit like a waste of a zone even though I like the zone itself very much! Just something more happening in that zone could been really good but no we got like nothing. Connected shitall with the characters there except for our reflection versions of the trolley people they made me so darn happy!

Then the attack at the city happened, wonderfully fucked up but why did they have to kill off Guloo Ja Ja?? Think that's how you spell his name, but Papa simply I love him he was and still is one of my fave characters from this whole expansion, and it feels they went with the way too easy route to just let him get killed for drama, it always happens with fathers who are done and give away their position but i am so tired of it he could just gotten really hurt instead it would done pretty much the same give or take, you don't need to kill off someones dad to give them motivation to kill their own brother for doing so! He had already butchered a bunch of the towns people Wuk lamat did not need more motivation to go for it, and if he just needed to be put out of comission so he wouldn't solve shit too quickly then just hurt him a bit and shit would been fine, it just sucks and while the death scene was good it just frustrates me, let the parents live for once!!

But anyway then there is the dome, 30 years passing etc, loved that whole thing wonderfully messed up but here we meet the sole character that ruined the ending for me personally, Spherne or however her name is spelled. The idea of her and her story is great, but the execution of her character did not work for me at all, and it could been easily fixed if at the end of her instead repeating the same old "sorry for killing your ppl" she could had tried to tell something about herself but maybe failing etc, just said something to give her more character than "I love my people above everything else and I will kill anyone who harms them and I will keep them alive even if it means killing others", that was her whole personality there was nothing else there and it could been fixed so easily by her just admitting to it? If that makes sense? She was just so very bland and could been so much more and I get it she is just the memory of a person long dead but just give me something more, and then there is her design it is so bad if they just pulled back a smidge it would been fine!

After meeting her I feel the rest of the msq ends up so rushed, which like technically makes sense since we in a hurry to stop zorol ja think it was spelled mister first promise boy, but it made it so for me at least, that I didn't get a chance to connect with the new characters properly, didn't get to know the new villain at all, which could been on purpose since wuk lamat and sperne is kind of opposites, but it just didn't work which makes me so frustrated because it could worked so well!

And not to mention, a thing I didn't think of until my big sis mentioned it and how frustrated she was about it, is the whole electric sickness happening there! We have a cure for it we can fix that but there was no mention of it or anything where we could go oh hey we have a cure for this since its the whole thing from the first and tempering we could gotten Aisaie summon Angelo and help the sick boy but no, nothing! This better get mentioned/fixed in the future story patches or I will go insane!

Fuck we could had brought it up to Spherne and made her situtation more complicated but no!

And then there is Otis, I loved that guy but he was instantly taken away and killed we got no time so spend with him except for in the Living Memory later on but that wasn't truly him and it just sucks, wish he had been around longer and things didn't get so fucking rushed here!

Loved the trial for Zorol ja tho it was great, loved how it subtly explained why he was how he was, and while I would had loved having more of it outside the trial before we killed him etc it still worked out and made sense, love his son so much he is so good and I adore that blue baby! But I want to know who his birth mother is, who the fuck is Zorol ja's birth mother?? How was he born even though it is said two headed maamol ja can't have kids? Or is it just so darn rare he just ended up been the first ever? Game please explain gkejngke!!

But then comes Spherne and fucks shit up, which would work if her whole character wasn't as bland as a wet salty cracker! The whole of Living Memory was amazing i cried so much, the zone is amazing the music the progress of it was great, the whole message of everyone dies and life goes on hitting me way too hard.

But then there is the dungeon and Sphernes trial, the fights etc is fine and the visuals great, but thanks to her constant talking in the dungeon and its her we fight it just it's just so meh, she needed something more and now she will be part of Wuk Lamat's story forever and it sucks! Also I am still irritated that she kept calling Wuk lamat by her family nickname like please that was so rude, but I also get why Wuk lamat didn't protest proepr but still! It would been more interesting if like wuk lamat was like no u can't call me that and spherne been apologetic etc, and then later at the end wuk lamat lets her call her by that, just something!

Ok so rant over there but now we get to what my hopes and fears are for the future story, as now we got a fucking mguffin that can open portals to other reflections! Which we luckily know shit about except Kriles people had it but that's all luckily since they didn't know shit about it either, and I hope it stays that way for at least another expansion as it feels we are rushing the whole "find a way to other reflections" bit way too much, it already felt a bit rushed in the endwalker patches, but now we got a mcguffin and I am worried about it!

As while I want to visit other reflections, be able to visit the first with the scions again etc, I don't want to do that just yet! There been too much of reflection stuff in the story, I want a break from that and focus on other parts of the world we haven't been to, like Mercedia, Graha's home land, the Roegadyn homeland etc, I want to wait and let Y'sthola work more on finding a way, as I fear this mcguffin will make things way too easy and solve this whole thing, I want the story to wait, let us do other shit while this storyline can be like in the background a bit, and not the focus! And then it can blow up and be the focus again! I feel we need a break from it and I fear this will be the focus of the patches that is going to come.

After all the best part of the msq for me was when we just enjoyed ourselves in the new world and places we got to explore, where there was no mention except some smaller references and the reflections was not in the focus. I just want a break from it let it brew and stop rushing it!

But I am hopeful that this is something that will take awhile, since we literally have no clue what or where the mcguffin even came from or what it is, so I hope this will mean that it will take awhile, and that we can focus on other things like the electric sickness in solution 9 and their whole messing with souls there! I want clarification on if Alexandria etc is from the reflection from the second umbral calamity or not, as the hints are there as it would make sense, but I do not want to focus on traveling to any reflections for now. I want to explore other things so badly get to do new things and not reflection stuff please.

The only exception to any reflection focus is if something gets fucked up and the WoL gets sent to a reflection alone, with no one there to help us while the scions etc tries to find and contact us, that is the only reflection story I will be ok with getting at the moment as I want things to go wrong more and not feel as easy as it feels currently when it comes to travelling to the reflections!

Day 16: Riptide

Ok, so, the "normal" definition of that word is different than what I wrote, but I had zero ideas for that normal definition and then I found this one:

I decided to go with this definition of the word. Admittedly, I only found this sort of meaning for riptide on two sites, plus I have never heard of this word myself, so I'm sorry if this definition is wrong or doesn't really fit :') then again I really don't think you care that much about those prompt words, do you xd?

“So, because of this wedding, next week I am flying to India with my parents. Since the occasion arises, we decided that we might as well stay in our homeland for the next seven days too, reconnect with it for a week.” 

Ever since Sunil casually provided that information to their group his friends have known - for a while they would be treading on thin ice, and no one was quite sure whether to be grateful or worried that Vinnie just happened to be too busy that day to hear about his best friend’s departure.

“I think I should call Vinnie; he would like to know, I am sure.” Back then Sunil started reaching for his phone, but Russell grabbed his wrist in a flash.

“N-no, don’t worry yourself with that, you already have enough on your plate with that visit, we will tell him… later.”

It was a good enough solution for a while until the dreaded later came. After seeing Sunil off at the airport, who admittedly was surprised by the absence of his best friend, but Minka managed to rig up some half-believable excuse, the five friends gathered at the pink-haired girl’s house. One delivered message later they all became tense and, on their toes, dreading what might as well be considered as a small-scaled apocalypse.

“Alright, everyone,” Russell started with a shaky breath, sitting on the couch squeezed from both sides by his tightly packed friends, “knowing him, he will be here in a few minutes at most and then we will… tell him all about Sunil’s week-long trip. R-Remember, just be calm and it will all work out, he can’t smell fear if it’s not there…”

“We try that each and every time and it never works!” Pepper accused and shifted on the couch. “I don’t think this is going to work, Ferguson.”

“Maybe just this time it will, it has to one day, I mean, nothing else ever did!" Russell’s voice raised in pitch with every syllable. He tugged on his hair, redirecting his shaky gaze at Minka. “And Minka, please, this time don’t, let’s say, yell the news before it’s supposed to happen, alright?”

“Ahaha.” His interlocutor giggled hurriedly with an askew smile, “I know, I know, I won’t, promise. I just don’t think thisisgoingtowork…!” 

“Well, just don’t do that,” Zoe replied with downcast eyes, her hands playing with the rim of her dress. Her expression was the calmest out of the bunch, or well, has been until that moment. “Maybe we just shouldn't tell him at all? Maybe we can hide Sunil’s departure for an entire week…?” She finished; whatever crumbs of confidence were in her voice dissipated with each word.

“No! This will never work. I’m pretty sure Vinnie can smell Sunil and once he realizes that the scent isn’t there, he’s gonna freak! But… I've been thinking of an idea of sorts.” Before the group could question either of those claims, the creaking of the front door seemed to reverberate throughout the entire house causing the five individuals to either flinch or full-fledged jump on the couch and cling to one another.

“Minka!” Penny whispered through her teeth. “You didn’t lock the door?!”

“Guess not, I was too nervous, probably, and I must have forgotten.” Penny couldn’t even blame the other, all of their minds had been preoccupied with just one matter after all.

“Hi guys, there you are.” The new voice entering the room caused all of them to flinch again and turn slowly towards Vinnie. 

“Hi, darling!” Zoe quickly let out, with a bit too much enthusiasm penetrating her greeting.

“‘Sup,” Vinnie waved haphazardly and blinked at his friends’ peculiar positions. “Uh, okay…” His eyes scanned all of them in sequence. “Hey, where’s Sunil? You said that everyone would be here, and I knocked on Sunil’s door on my way here and he didn’t answer, so how come he is not here either?” His neck made a snapping sound as he quickly tilted his head to the side, his pupils appearing just a bit smaller than before.

Russell gulped, his shoulders rising up. He exchanged a rapid glance with each person on the couch before opening his dry-feeling mouth but in advance of any words coming out of his mouth, there came an impossibly high-pitched screech from the right end of the couch.

“Minka, no, don’t say anything-!” However, that’s not what happened. Instead, the girl got up and in no time made her way to the other room, disappearing quickly from the view. After they stopped gazing in the direction of Minka’s mad rush, everyone slowly turned back to now eye Vinnie. He stood there, seemingly rooted to the spot, staring in the same direction as everyone a second ago.

“Damn, Minka, you traitor, leaving us like this,” Pepper whispered through clenched teeth, her own legs shifting. Vinnie’s head snapped back to now look at the remaining quartet, breathing heavily through his nose.

“...”

“Vinnie, wait, I can, um, explain.” Russell swallowed, his flat hands moving in front of him. It was now or… well, not never, it was now or now. “You see…” He started but as soon as he looked at Vinnie again the words got stuck in his throat, “see… see… um… Sunil… he… he, he, he…”

This wasn’t getting anywhere, was it? With each of his stutters Vinnie’s hands got closer to forming into fists, his pupils becoming smaller, his teeth more bared.

“He’s not here, he’s in India this week,” Zoe finished for him, letting the word flow out quickly yet just slowly enough to be recognizable. Her squeezed-tight eyes throughout the whole sentence now snapped open, just in time to see Vinnie rushing at them. 

“AH!” They all gasped and clung immediately to one another as he jumped, all of their eyes now closed, getting ready for whatever was to come next. But just then-.

“STOOOOP!” Minka’s voice hollered. “Please, take this!” They took in a truly offbeat sight. At some point, Minka had appeared in front of them and was now holding something cardboard up in her hands, seemingly for Vinnie, who momentarily stopped in mid-air, his eyes losing their fire once they stopped on the item.

“Oh.” He allowed himself to fall back to the floor and eyed the object with a now curious stare while Russell, Zoe, Penny, and Pepper still clung to one another, exchanging unnerved glances.

“S-see?” Minka swallowed. “I know it’s not the same, but uh, how about you just take it for this week, or-or however long Sunil’s not here and, um, uh…”

Vinnie was completely silent once Minka failed to try to find her words, still staring at the same point. His expression was a poker face with a tinge of surprise and remaining anger, but just then as if someone flipped a switch a delighted smile grew on his face, and he snatched the cardboard from Minka’s hands.

“Sunil!” He squealed happily and hugged the thing, turning around with it and allowing the rest to finally see it from the front - it was a cardboard-cutout of Sunil…

“Is… is this one of those cardboard-cutouts you made of all of us when you said you miss us when we’re not all together?” Penny whispered as all of their eyes followed Vinnie’s every move cautiously.

“Yeah,” Minka replied in an equally hushed tone. “See, this is the idea I was talking about.”

The grip of the rest of the group loosened gradually from around each other until they were all standing free again, though remaining undeniably close. 

“I can’t believe that worked.” Zoe scratched her nape, all of their eyes on Vinnie who was now firmly squeezing “Sunil.” Next, he dipped the cutout and went for a kiss on the cheek.

“Uhm, Vinnie, maybe you shouldn’t…” Russell’s voice trailed off when Pepper put her arm in front of him.

“Would you really rather he started freaking out and possibly tearing Minka’s entire house to shreds?”

“No… no, I wouldn’t. I just wonder if this will be enough for an entire week.” No one tried to provide any answer. Only time would tell, but for now everyone’s sanity, and material goods, were saved.

Phantom AU: Bluma's reaction to wolf!Lindsey, go.

OK!!

So, I was thinking that Lindsey's mask is magical in some way, letting her roam around without shifting, even on full moon nights. (I still wanna keep the fantasy elements from their world in the AU)

I also refer to them in the context of the story as the original characters' names ("Erika" being a special change hehe) but will use their actual names here to be less confusing haha.

I imagine this Phantom and Christine's relationship is less strict at first and is more like the 1990 series...during the good moments. Lindsey is very gentle around Bluma, as if she was porcelain. But also...Lin often has a bit of a mouth when it comes to criticizing other singers (especially the Carlotta in this AU) + the managers. She's...kind of a primadonna herself xD. Bluma doesn't mind some of it (until later...) When they chat, it's somewhat casual (and sometimes awkward because Lin has zero of her OG social skills but all of her ego in this AU XD though...much more fragile). So, Blu feels comfortable enough to let her curiosity get the best of her when they actually meet face to face. I don't think Bluma would remove her mask right away. She'd have to be led up to it? But, like I said, it would get the best of her in the end ^^;

I'm thinking about the first unmasking resulting in a slow transformation, a little bit before the sun rises. Bluma gets a good look of the pure rage and sorrow this woman has. The side of Lin's face covered by the mask is already somewhat transformed, and removing the mask reveals her sunken in, ghostly wolf eyes. She hides herself in the shadows, but slowly emerges the more she shifts.

I think Blu would sit in disbelief, would be horrified, and would feel betrayed. With how I'm writing them, they're around the same age + have been talking to each other for a while. Then there's the detail of Lin being called the "Angel of Music." Bluma finding out that her angelic friend + guardian was actually a normal person is one thing, but then seeing that she's a werewolf, is another. She's scared, doesn't know what to think of her friend anymore, and fears for her life for a split second (in this AU, werewolves are definitely not common like in their original world. They're very much feared). But, oddly enough, Lindsey's voice seems so human in that moment. For once, she's not trying to sound like an ethereal spirit. She's just...herself. Her eyes plead for someone to have some compassion, and Bluma notices.

That encounter ends with Lindsey changing back and telling Bluma to never mention what she saw. Just that...she visited a "friend."

Now...this is Bluma we're talking about, so she also might have felt a bit excited/been in awe LMAO.

This is so tough cuz Joy is such a wild card 😂 you’d have to out-weird whoever was impersonating her. Ask her to touch an obvious trap or other stupid reckless thing, if she doesn’t /at least/ try for it, that’s not Joy. Alternatively, say sexually suggestive stuff around “her” and if she doesn’t make a single awful sex joke then you gotta kill on sight.

23. What do they feel guilty for that the other person(s) doesn’t / don’t even remember?

Joy so rarely feels guilt, but I think she holds a non-zero amount of guilt for her past ruining a lot of the underground network she and her ex partner (???) Norma built for ferrying refugees to safety. I don’t think she ever was able to explain the complexity of her past lives and twin soul, and so Norma doesn’t know the real reasons why it was broken down

42. If invited to a TED Talk, what topic would they present on? What would the title of their presentation be?

Joy’s TED talk would start as a fun lecture on music and performance, and then she would start bringing up really thinly veiled commentary about class inequality and she’d inexplicably intertwine kickass music with a very charged hidden message of “fuck the man.” She’d title it: “lo-fi beats to revolt to”

56. If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear? (Joy)

Joy doesn’t feel fear towards “average” things, but when she was still facing the huge unknown of her lost memories of past lives, that scared her to an existential degree. She did find comfort in her party members, who for some reason stuck around and refused to be swayed by her bad choices. Without them, she’d probably seek the comfort of a good tavern and a nice lay, tbh. and sometimes she’ll do that anyway xD

For Kara:

48. Who would they say ‘yes’ to if invited to do something they abhorred / strongly didn’t want to do? (Kara)

Kara hates going to most large social gatherings, but would always go and keep Hua company as the setting’s companion of the avatar, and she never lets her little brother suffer alone. Sometimes her friends Sakiko and Shisui will talk her out of the air temple to participate in their weird wrestling events, and she’d always sweep the floor on everyone and leave as quickly as possible 😂

50. What belief / moral / personality trait do they stand by that you (mun) personally don’t agree with? (Kara)

Oh this is tough…well I guess for one, Kara is much more willing to go the “murder” route, even if she’s now a serene monk that does peace talks every day, than I am. I also think she’s a lot more devoted to a fault than myself, which I used to be 😅 but Kara has a single minded devotion that led her to some sad consequences and mistakes…

For Clio:

22. What simple activity that most people do / can do scares your character? (Clio)

This is so embarrassing for her, but being a rich kid growing up never having to do the most basic chores…Clio cannot figure out laundry. She’s terrified of ruining her fanciest clothes and is baffled about the concept of clotheslines. “I mean some random stranger can just snatch my stockings whenever they want!”

37. What’s a secret they haven’t told serious romantic partners and don’t plan to tell? (Clio)

Ohohohoh…I don’t think Clio would ever tell anyone, including romantic partners (even her lifelong crush & eventual partner Po), about the origins of some of the scars she has from childhood. Some are self-inflicted, while others were punishments for misbehaving or failing to meet expectations of her parents. Clio would have a very hard time bringing those memories up, and no amount of therapy would make it easier to talk about.

47. Who have they forgotten about that remembers them very well? (Clio)

I think there was a bard we met on the road in the campaign I played her in, and she really heckled him and gave him tons of shit. I bet he remembers her 😂 Alternatively, I think she probably bullied another kid at magic school and it really left an impression on them, but Clio eventually goes through her Redemption Arc (tm) and forgets she did that. Maybe they confront her 50 years later and she’s like, “oh, shit. Sorry, um. Here’s 100gp. Does that..make up for it?”

I am probably not the best person to answer you this because funny enough, Raven is my first ever OC XD so my experience with OC creation is kinda just…based on vibes haha but I’ll offer a few of my stories

Its majorly thanks to my friend bressy when it comes to making Raven, although she doesn’t post her OC Ava as much now we do a lot of things behind the scenes!

If im going to be honest, my advice will always be just do it, you have to start somewhere and then roll the snow ball down the hill!

You might not believe this but my Raven initially was just suppose to be a regular military private with zero background and stuff and boi her first sketches were terrible XD but hey! At least I had a name and a purpose— which is im gonna ship her with Price.

Everything else comes afterwards! Slowly but surely, I didn’t start focusing on her until very much later when im more active in the cod active, which speaking of is also great because the community (albeit less) do have some people who are willing to talk about OCs, which can often help build your stories!

In my case I talked about Raven with Bressy a lot :3

Not sure if this count as an advice but in my case, Raven is like…a mash-up of a few characters that I love! So taking inspiration from your fav shows, characters and movies can help out. Hell, my Raven’s blueprint follows Ghost HAHA (quiet, deadly, silent, unhinged you name it)

I guess Raven’s character is based on my own experience as well, like Raven has a few pieces of me inside :3 maybe your oc can be an extension of yourself, something you wish you can have irl but unable to achieve it(god do I wish I know how to use knifes HAHA) or being the opposite

Oh yeah, dramatify everything you can think of HAHA and also trauma helps (not even kidding)

Like if we combine the “opposite” thing and making it dramatic, the prime example from my case would be: hey! Im a huge flower enthusiast, I love them

And then I turn it into the extreme in Raven, giving her anthophonia(fear of flowers) and then make up a traumatic backstory for it(got tortured in an abandoned kindergarten with sunflower wallpapers which manifested as generalised fear towards anything that resembles flowers of sorts)

I think what matters most is to have fun. Your oc doesn’t have to be extremely badass or complicated backstory! There’s absolutely no shame in creating one for the sake of your indulgence (like to ship it with any of the 141, yum)

And OC creation takes time, don’t rush the good stuff yk, heck I didn’t give Raven a full name until months later :)

I hope my answer can hopefully help you out a bit and possibly motivate you to make your own oc albeit its shite advices HAHAHA if you do make one though feel free to share :] I always love seeing other people’s OCs 🫶🏻

🎵~Starpoint Squad AU/ OC Character Themes~🎵

I wanted to compile a list of the themes that represent my Sonic OCs and the Starpoint Squad AU.

I’ll be updating this whenever I find better fitting themes or add any new characters, so this is a good place to come and get a vibe for the AU and all the players involved. :)

Also—yes, a lot of these are RWBY songs. XD Although I don’t watch the show much, they make some banger tracks that just fit really well with moments and scenes. 🤘

The Competition/Starpoint Squad Arc: RWBY - Touch The Sky, RWBY - Indomitable / RWBY - Guide My Way

If the Starpoint Squad Arc had a theme song, it would be Touch the Sky. It encapsulates the quirky and goofy vibes of the whole team. Dynamics and interactions between characters, clashing personalities yet also times of joy and having fun. The good times between the Starpoint Squad.

Indomitable encapsulates the first half of the AU as well, though sung from Rivet’s perspective in a sort of reminiscing kind of way. The soft moments she remembers, the relationships and connections that formed between Starline and the group, the triumphs they face together, and the moments of tragedy and pain.

Guide My Way plays during the final fight of this act. A theme for the battle to save Aethos.

The Downfall Arc: RWBY - Fear , RWBY - For Every Life

Fear encapsulates Rivet and Charge’s story in of the Downfall Arc, where tragedy strikes and loss is heavy.

For Every Life is the theme for the arc as a whole, looking at things as Starline’s dreams are reached and battles are fought between former friends. Betrayal, regret, pain, and despair run through all of it. Can any of it be fixed or salvaged?

The Restoration Arc: Porter Robinson - Look At The Sky / Porter Robinson - Wind Tempos / Arcane - Isha’s Song

Look At The Sky and Wind Tempos encapsulate the Restoration Arc as a whole, focused mostly on Starline’s journey of redemption as he recovers, learns to accept forgiveness, and works to fix the things and relationships that were strained. The soft moments with him and Rivet, and the confrontations and reconciliations he has with the Starpoint Squad, Sonic and Co, and the Restoration. Pushing forwards to a new start and a better future.

Isha’s Song is the song of the final battle. A theme of family, power, comeuppance, and triumph. Surge and Kits’ moment of rising to heroism and destroying a massive threat.

~OC Specific Songs~

Rivet: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Un-gravitify / Across the Spiderverse - Self Love / Arcane - Goodbye / Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

Rivet is and always has been a Rider from the start of her creation as a character. Even though it’s just a hobby, Un-gravitify encapsulates her love of the ride, the technology involved, and is also a nod to her roots, since this was the song I originally created her to. ✨

Self Love would be Rivet’s self-narrating piece where she tells her story through all the arcs, much like Gwen does in the movie. It fits her general vibes while working with the team, her moments of warmth and softness with those she loves, as well as her somberness of being lost and having to reflect on and accept the weight of events that have transpired.

Goodbye is her regarding... everything she’s lost. A song of regret and sorrow.

Chasing Cars is her and Starline’s theme. Their soft moments, their battles, and their eventual reunion at the end of it all. The highs and lows, the good and the bad. All wrapped in one lovely song.

Charge: NF - The Search / RWBY - Quiet / Rooster Teeth - Death Battle: All-Consuming

The Search reflects the side Charge doesn’t talk about as often to anyone. It signifies his inner thoughts and captures the epitome of his stress and fear over his nightmares.

The other two enter major spoiler territory that I’m not ready to share about yet. So for now, I’ll let you imagine what they represent. ;3

Hex: Shadrow - This Hell / Shadrow - Shapes / Sonic Frontiers Remix - The Finding of Your Flame

The first two represent Hex’s neverending struggle with being ignored. Of being teased and pushed down by people who don’t take him seriously because of how young he is, and those who refuse to even give him a chance because they’re jealous of his skills. (Also, he’s a big video game kid, so the chiptune fits well.)

The Finding of Your Flame is both one of the final battle themes for the AU, as well as Hex’s victory theme. Where he finally does break through all of that and proves himself to the world that just because he’s young, doesn’t mean he’s not as capable as the rest. 🔥

Cello: Hatsune Miku - LeftBehindCity (Torinoko City)

Torinoko City reflects Cello’s isolation and strained relationship with her father. The contention she feels that he doesn’t support her dreams, and her wish that he would just be proud of her.

Lug: Ghost Trick - The Imprisoned

While I’m still struggling to find a true song that fits him, I feel this one captures his overzealousness to help, to encourage, and to support Hex. It also has the vibes of him being a big dumb brute. (We love him for it 💖)

Professor Yew: I Expect You to Die 3 - Cog in the Machine

Yew is an nature lover and environmentalistwho dreams of a better world for everyone. Although it starts out as an innocent dream, by the time of the AU, it’s morphed into an insane one. This song is a love letter to the people who brushed her off, and highlights her determination to do what needs to be done for the greater good. Viewing everyone around her is a ‘cog in her machine’ to success, if you will. ;p

Zeroth: Yuki Hyashi - Let’s Dance with Me, Here in Hell / The Promised Neverland - Existence of an Insider / Dawko - Behind the Mask

These songs perfectly fit this ancient creature born of darkness; the puppetmaster of many events. He may seem like no threat when he first opens his mouth, but whatever he utters will bring about nothing but destruction.
