A Small Question
What happened to Shazamite?!?? Like, weren't we supposed to be getting one??
I recently got the Shazam (2023) Vol.1 book that has issues 1-6 and I remembered that the summary for chapter 6 included:
(from the official DC site)
We're twelve issues in and not once has he appeared. Am I missing something or is it supposed to happen later in the series? Was it because they changed the main writer?
Just asking because why include it in the ch6 synopsis and not show him at all? I googled him and any mentions of him come from articles for the preview of Shazam #6(which came out months ago). Does anyone know?

Newish Comics (1 January 2025)
Apologies for lateness but I started the year visiting people and only got home today.
Absolute Superman #2: oh I see we're going for the generative AI dig.
Otherwise, Earth here remains a crapsack world and I think Lazarus is horribly heavy handed, but I'm definitely hanging in here to see all the historic Krypton stuff (and Lois getting absolutely compelled).
Action Comics #1078: in the Clark story, now Kandor is mad at Clark for his plan!
In the Kara one which I am still enjoying more, Kara's hallucinating Kara Zor-L which I am certain will not cause any issues at all ever. Also she's crashlanded on Dagobah and is about to enter the cave that gives you nightmares. (Look, I am enjoying the fun Tamaki is having here, but the second half of the story was CLEARLY 'time for a Star Wars homage' to my eye)
Batgirl #2: this is good, though part of me during the line "As a mother, I remind you that we are our daughter's first teachers" is wincing because a line like that in a Cass book needs a proper payoff that Shiva was NEVER one of Cass' early teachers and her first teacher was David.
Batman #155: oh looks like we are on the bad decision rota! (Also we are playing Officer Down echoes here among others, which makes Bullock being lead investigator here hmmm just a LITTLE weird)
Birds of Prey #16: and we finally reveal why Thompson tanked out this lineup so hard.
Also Cass' innate kindness and the scene removing the collar with a brick reminded me instantly of Cass running with wolves.
Shazam! #16: MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL OH YEAH!
Love that Campbell's picking back up on the Mary v Georgia plotline fron New Champion, love even more that Billy's still interrogating his connection to the Captain and loss, love that Freddy's fighting against Mr Mind, and I can't believe we're getting this storyline interrupted for a boring looking fill issue [Amendment: apparently the fill is for maternity leave, which, now I’m just mad at America again. ONE MONTH?]
Two-Face #1: oooh this is as good as the preview promised, though I have to say, I NEED someone to put "Fear the Reaper!" into this! You can't use him, Christian Ward, and not use his catchphrase!
The Warlord #79: This week the Warlord comes with a poster of the NTT by George Perez! (it has not been included in the scan)
Also this week's fun addition to the pile of conspiracy theories that revolves around this title is the USS Eldridge turning invisible during WWII (which is apparently a conspiracy known as the 'Philadelphia Experiment' rather than something made up for the title, if like me you are not very up on WWII US conspiracy theories).
Also Jennifer FINALLY reappears. She's on her way to Shamballah and knocks out some slavers on the way.
Travis is busy bouncing around the timestream after activating the UFO, where he comes across himself from another time in his history, the USS Eldridge (the experiments on which apparently caused all the timestream problems), and a secret US military base in a hollowed out mountain in Utah where time is passing far slower than time in the rest of the world.

new(ish) comics time!
Most of these are from last week but I was on vacation so we're doing it now.
Fire and Ice: Welcome to Smallville #4 -- This continues to be light and fun. Well, except for the fact that apparently the cannibalism last issue wasn't a fake-out?? I guess I'll have to see how the last couple issue go, but why does this mini have a cannibalism subplot in the first place? It just feels tonally out of place. Also, appearently Fire and Lobo are/were a thing? Didn't know that. Anyway, I am enjoying the Fire and Ice conflict and I liked the joke about Tora leaving Krypto to guard her cave full of potential reformees.
Titans: Beast World Tour: Gotham #1 -- dang that's a mouthful of a comic name. I read this for Helena scraps and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed most of the stories! Sadly her story was one of the weaker ones (I do think Cass would be a cat person) but I think I'll at least rate it above the Harley one. The Dick and Bruce story was fun (though why we had to have Barbara in the Batgirl costume when she was doing Oracle stuff anyway beats me.) I really liked the Jason one--that felt very strong. I liked eating/hunger imagery and also the Ratcatcher as a naked mole rat. (I have simple pleasures sometimes.) For the Steph story, I thought it was interesting having her go up against killer moth and having her call back to his 90s moth creature form. It got me remembering that really weird killer moth story in Jon Lewis' Robin run where he was like reproducing or something? Anyway, I really like what Kelly Jones is doing with his art these days.
Birds of Prey #10 - No Zealot this issue :( I will be honest, I think this arc is loosing me a little. There were some nice Cass and Barda moments, but it felt like there was a lot of infodumping this issue where the birds are and what they're up against and I just wasn't that invested in it. Maybe that'll change but I guess I'll just have to see. The other thing about this issue that felt weaker was the art. While I've been a fan of how Bellaire's been coloring this series in the past, this issue really felt messy, blurry, and hard on the eyes in a way that the past issues hadn't. I think it's because there were just too many kirby dots. I get why she's doing it as the homage to kirby and his creation of Barda but the whole effect doesn't work. It's too much. I'm going to keep following this arc, but I hope the art and story have picked up next issue.
Shazam #12 -- The Shaz-van returns! My new favorite character <3 In other news, Billy's going through it this issue :'( I enjoyed the interplay between Billy and the Captain here and seeing the payoff of the introduction of his mom last issue. Since picking up Campbell's run on Shazam, I've been reading this in two directions--the current arc, and then six months previously on dcu infinite and reading issue 6 made me realize what plot threads this was picking up on on which helped me to better understand what was going on and help me to enjoy it more. I've really been enjoying the ride.
As a final side note, I also read the Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age preview in the back of the issue, and while I'm probably not going to read this in full, I think it was interesting to see more of Fernandez' art. I can definetly see some of his touches, but it also feels more scaled back in the pages here than the caricature-like features his faces could have in The Old Guard and Queen and Country. It's always interesting seeing how the work of artists with distinct styles can change.

Master the Basics: How to Play DJ and Start Your Music Journey
In the world of music, DJing has emerged as both an art form and a skill that captivates millions of enthusiasts worldwide. Whether you want to entertain a party crowd, produce your own beats, or even climb the ranks of professional music creators, learning how to play DJ is an exciting journey. This guide will help you navigate the essentials of becoming a DJ, touching on key terms and tools you’ll encounter along the way, including insights into Shazam music, what is stereo sound, the importance of an extended play, and the relevance of an EP full form in music.
1. Understanding DJ Basics
DJing, short for disc jockeying, involves mixing music tracks to create seamless transitions and deliver a unique listening experience. To master DJing, you’ll need to understand key concepts:
Track Selection: Choosing songs that resonate with your audience and match the mood of your set.
Beatmatching: Aligning the tempo and rhythm of two tracks to ensure a smooth blend.
EQing: Adjusting the bass, mids, and treble frequencies to balance sound levels.
Pro DJs rely heavily on tools like Shazam music to identify trending tracks, discover new sounds, and understand listener preferences. Shazam acts as a music recognition app, but for DJs, it’s a powerful resource to stay updated with popular and underground tracks that can elevate their sets.
2. Essential Equipment for Aspiring DJs
To get started, you’ll need the right equipment. Here’s what you’ll typically need:
DJ Controller: A hardware device that mimics the functionality of turntables and mixers in one unit.
Headphones: Essential for previewing tracks before mixing them live.
Speakers: Invest in high-quality speakers to ensure clear audio delivery. Understanding what is stereo sound here is critical, as stereo audio ensures your music is distributed across two channels (left and right), creating a more immersive experience for your audience.
3. The Role of Stereo Sound in DJing
A deep understanding of what is stereo sound is essential for DJs. Stereo sound plays a pivotal role in creating the right atmosphere for your set. With stereo, you can manipulate audio to pan sounds between speakers, giving your mix depth and dimension. This dynamic sound quality keeps your audience engaged, ensuring they feel the beats in a way that mono sound cannot replicate.
Stereo sound also allows DJs to experiment with techniques like spatial audio, where elements of a track can move across the sound field. Whether you’re blending vocals or adding drum loops, stereo sound makes your transitions smoother and your performance more professional.
4. Learning the Art of Extended Play
As you progress in DJing, you’ll encounter the term extended play or EP. In music, an EP is a collection of tracks that is longer than a single but shorter than a full album. Aspiring DJs often create and mix EPs to showcase their talent, offering listeners a curated selection of tracks.
The EP full form in music, “Extended Play,” is important for DJs who also want to produce music. EPs are a great way to experiment with sounds, test audience reactions, and establish your unique style without the commitment of creating a full-length album.
5. How Shazam Music Can Boost Your DJ Skills
For DJs, knowing what tracks resonate with audiences is crucial. This is where Shazam music comes into play. By using Shazam, you can identify songs that are trending in different genres, helping you curate a diverse setlist. Whether you're spinning at a party or creating a personal mixtape, having access to a wide array of music ensures your sets stay fresh and exciting.
Moreover, Shazam’s library can inspire you to explore tracks you might not have considered otherwise, expanding your repertoire and helping you stand out in a competitive field.
6. Starting Your First Set
Now that you have the basics, let’s focus on planning your first DJ set:
Choose Your Genre: Decide what style of music you want to play, whether it's electronic, hip-hop, pop, or a mix of genres.
Practice Beatmatching: Use your DJ controller to practice syncing the tempo of two tracks.
Record Your Practice: Listen back to identify areas for improvement, such as transitions and EQ adjustments.
Create an EP: Compile a short playlist of 4-6 tracks to practice mixing. This exercise not only enhances your skills but also gives you a tangible example of your progress. Think of this as your own extended play demo.
7. Experimenting with EPs
Producing your own EP is an excellent way to combine DJing and music production. DJs often release EPs to showcase their ability to mix, produce, and curate tracks. The process of creating an EP allows you to experiment with different sounds, test audience feedback, and refine your skills. Remember, the EP full form in music emphasizes quality over quantity—a principle that applies to DJing as well.
8. Final Thoughts
Learning how to play DJ is a rewarding journey that blends creativity with technical skill. By understanding essential concepts like what is stereo sound, utilizing tools like Shazam music, and experimenting with formats like the extended play, you’ll be well on your way to creating unforgettable music experiences.
Whether you’re mixing tracks at a local gig or crafting an EP in your home studio, the key is to practice consistently and stay curious. DJing is more than just playing songs—it’s about connecting with your audience, experimenting with sound, and showcasing your unique artistic voice.

Pull List (01/04/2024)
Birds of Prey #5 Blue Beetle #5 Fall of the House of X #1 Fantastic Four #15 Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville #5 The Hunger and the Dusk #5 Poison Ivy #18 Shazam! #7 Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1
Birds of Prey - I don't know how else to put it but I need to say it: the art for this issue looks awful. I am never a good judge of character when it comes to artwork, but going from Romero and Bellaire to this has given me such whiplash. I saw a preview earlier in the week and out loud said "that can't be the interior for this issue!" Grin and bear it for now I guess.
Blue Beetle - This book has been allowed to have its own style since even the graduation day mini, and I think it really works here. The art style for a run or title should be noted. Blue Beetle is like World's Finest in the way I believe it to be a collaborative effort. Even if I am behind here, it's still nice to see this book on my pull every time with this creative team.
Fall of the House of X - I got the Artgerm Magik variant cover because I am that kind of guy.
Fantastic Four - Giant brain on the cover? Sold!
Fire & Ice - Imagine getting really mad at this book! Ha!
The Hunger and the Dusk - Like I said with Blue Beetle, I think this books looks good, too. That villain looks cool, too.
Poison Ivy - That cover is terrifying.
Shazam! - I can dig it!
Vengeance of the Moon Knight - I have an idea about new Moon Knight (Moon Knight Plus!) and it seems I didn't get to that idea first. Glad the regular Moon Knight team is doing the book. I like that form of familiarity.
Next week's pull is so much less than the last few weeks it's going to be refreshing.
Happy readings!
