It's Too Cold For You Here (Shane x Reader)
I came across Sweater Weather (shoutout to the Neighborhood I die for the entire Wiped Out album) again recently and I find myself thinking about Shane. I blame @sashiavi I never really thought about him before. But anyways is this anything?
660 words, SFW, GN Reader x Shane. Banner by @waxskies
Tumblr media
It's snowing and dark.
You left the house in a panic looking for your dog, quickly throwing on a random jacket and boots but it's not enough. The wind cuts through your thin pajamas. You're in the center of town freezing your ass off calling your dog's name.
"What are you doing?" a gruff voice cuts you off from behind. It's Shane exiting the saloon.
No no no no anyone but him.
He's always been an ass to you, and seeing you making a fool of yourself like this is no way to help that.
You spin around and tug at your coat sheepishly trying to disappear inside it. "My dog still hasn't come back I'm worried."
"You're going to freeze," he says bluntly, as if you are an idiot, because admittedly you are probably being a little bit of an idiot.
"So is my dog!" you bite back. He's not getting it. "What if he's stuck somewhere!" you cry in increasing distress, pleading with him to understand until you remember this is Shane and an absolute waste of time to try to explain.
You turn to walk away, the beginning of your dog's name on your lips when you are abruptly stopped by a hand on your shoulder.
"What are you-?!"
"You're going to freeze," Shane repeats. He is much closer now. Your clouding breath reaches his chest. "Here." He takes your freezing hand and mumbles something about frostbite, gesturing for your other hand.
His hands are so warm. Despite being totally overwhelmed, panicked, and embarrassed, you give him your other hand. He presses them together between his hands and brings them up to breathe on them.
Your eyes shut in relief and a shiver passes through you at the influx of heat.
He pauses to rub your hands. They are stinging from the heat of his fingers.
"You need to go back home and get dressed," he commands.
"But I-"
He raises an eyebrow at you. "I don't think you're any good to your animals if you wind up frozen too." He goes back to warming your hands.
You sigh in defeat. You know he's right.
"Come on," he nods in the direction of your farm but doesn't entirely let your hands go. Instead, he holds on to one and brings it into his coat pocket with his.
You blink at him in disbelief.
"What?" he hisses and rolls his eyes. It's hard to tell in the dark but he might be blushing. Maybe it's just the cold? "I might be an asshole but I'm not that much of an asshole. And if you aren't okay with this then I have to give you my whole coat and I'd rather not. 'S cold as balls out here."
You can't help but chuckle and squeeze his hand... inadvertently... by accident.. probably
Shane pulls his gaze away and starts walking. Your hand stays in his, warm in his jacket pocket. You start to call your dog's name again every once in a while. You are surprised again when Shane joins you.
The closer you get to the farm the more you remember your dread and panic, until you see a bundle of shadow on the porch and groan.
Shane scoffs as your dog comes towards you sheepishly wagging their tail.
You finally release Shane's hand with a whispered thank you. He nods and clears his throat nervously looking away.
"You had me worried sick!" you hiss to your dog, bending to feel the tips of their ears in concern. "Let's get you inside you goober. Shane, do you..." you start as you turn to him, but he's already out of earshot, leaving your property as quickly as he came.

A Break In Routine - Shane x Reader (Stardew Valley)
Another Shane SDV fic from my drafts with a couple strange gaps in it.
Warnings: mentions of recovering from alcoholism, being imperfect, guilt and self-loathing to a certain extent. Alcohol.
Word Count: 1.4k
Shane wasn't stupid. He knew you knew that. He noticed that, the closer you got, especially after that night on the cliff, you changed. Not so much in the way you dealt with him—you were kind and persevering as ever.
You stopped brewing. He had been out to the farm before, you had like ten kegs and an evergreen crop of hops and wheat to fuel them. And Shane wasn't stupid—he'd almost gone broke from buying the stuff before, so he knew it was lucrative. You'd have to be crazy to give that up. Farmers had it rough, especially ones that worked as hard as you. Having such an easy source of passive income should've been a no-brainer.
Oh, and you stopped bringing him alcohol. You were a social drinker—he'd seen you share Kahlua-and-coffee martinis with the good doctor or bond with Leah over a sweet red. But when it came to Pam and him, you were only ever seen with soda and some filling food in hand. He wondered if you thought he wouldn't notice. If he was too out of it or too naïve.
You visited JojaMart sometimes—normally just to check on him, never to buy anything—and you always had a tense look on your face whenever he was stocking the drinks section. That, that one actually hurt. Yeah, he had bad habits. He was working, only half successfully, on breaking them. But that made him think you really thought he had no self-control. That he was going to wander forward like a zombie and mindlessly rip into the Jack Daniels and Bud Lite. He shouldn't be trusted super far, but he thought he at least deserved the sliver of faith that would be required to believe that wouldn't happen.
That was what he was thinking about as he sat next to the fireplace, cola in a stein in his hand. See, he was doing better. He wasn't used to being fully lucid at this hour of the night, but he was getting there. It was significantly more uncomfortable, sitting there in silence when he wasn't half-catatonic. Everyone else was having a great time. Even Marnie was having a... whoa, beyond friendly conversation with the mayor. Hell, where were you, anyway? You were always trying so hard to make sure he wasn't alone, and now you leave him alone? Maybe he deserved it for all those times he blew you off.
"Hey!" You suddenly appeared in his line of vision. Suddenly, even completely sober, he couldn't sort out his feelings. He was grateful to you for watching out for him; he obviously couldn't do that himself. He was annoyed that you infantilized him. He was confused that you put up with him. Why didn't you just cut loose and stop holding yourself back for someone who has done nothing but screwed over their own life?
"What are you doing here?" Shane said. Crap. That wasn't what he meant to say, not at all. He meant to say 'Why do you stay? Why do you care? I'm not worthy of you.'
Your face fell and Shane needed a drink or six. "Trying to hang out with you," you responded, your voice edged with anger and sadness. "I was—y'know what, I'll leave you be, I just wanted to give this to you."
You held your closed hand out expectantly, and he obliged with an extended palm.
You dropped a pearl into it.
"Wha—" his mouth dropped open in disbelief. "Oh, wow, Farmer, how did you know this is my favorite?"
You were already gone. He checked the clock on the opposite wall. Well, it was already 12. Maybe you just wanted to get a good night's sleep. He hoped that was all.
But Shane wasn't stupid.
When you exited your house at 6:10 AM sharp the next morning, you almost tripped over him before noticing that Shane was sitting on your steps. This was a huge break in his routine, and it worried you. "Shane? What're you—" You stopped yourself, realizing that you were parroting his words from the previous night.
"I didn't mean what I said," Shane said abruptly. His murky brown eyes looked into yours with absolute earnesty, and you noticed something rather special about them. They weren't teary or red-striped. He wasn't hungover, at all.
Your brow furrowed. "About what?"
"About—about... just, how I treat you, y'know. Always blowing you off and acting like you're not worth my time. I know it should be the other way around," his gaze dropped to the ground and he scuffed his foot against the wood of the front steps.
You lowered yourself to sit next to him, knees nearly touching. Time always seemed to stand still when you spoke to him—the sun was stuck in the sky, and you weren't worried about what you were going to get done that day.
"What do you mean, Shane?"
"You know what I mean, Farmer," he said, before exhaling and rubbing his hands on his pants. "I just... I'm not... good enough, for you. I'm a, uh, flash in the pan, I guess. What I'm trying to say... is I'm sorry," he sighed, risking looking up at you again.
Your eyes seemed to look through him. "Shane," you said gently. "You're good enough, for me, for anyone," you emphasized. "And I... do understand why you say the things you do, and they are unfortunate, but I appreciate you recognizing that and apologizing."
Shane looked from your piercing eyes, to your hand that was resting on your knee, centimeters from his, back to your eyes. "I'm trying. Really trying."
You took his hand, and his heart rate spiked. "I know you are, and I know that Marnie and Jas and I really appreciate it."
"Yeah," Shane whispered. Part of him felt guilty—that somehow, Jas wasn't enough to straighten him out. But he was grateful that somehow, you were.
Your thumb rubbed the back of his hand,  comforting him further. He wondered how you could stand touching him. Even after that touching speech, he had a hard time believing you. Even if his personality, his character, was something you seemed to admire, which was beyond him on its own, look at him. He had gained... a number of pounds in the past eight months, he shaved maybe every three days, despite getting a five o'clock shadow by the end of that day. His hair was a genuine disaster, even though Marnie refused to admit it. He was physically clean (most of the time), and that was basically where the pros stopped.
"Thank you so much for coming over here this morning, Shane," you said. Shane had to suppress a shiver at the way you said his name. It didn't sound the way anyone else ever said it. Maybe it was just his imagination.
But he was more than happy to keep imagining it. "I can't tell you... how much it means to me, that you're reaching out and, and trying. In the most non-patronizing way, I'm proud of you."
He could almost feel tears welling in his eyes. "You're—you're proud of me?"
He hadn't heard that since high school.
"Yeah, of course," you nodded genuinely.
He laughed, almost in disbelief. "Thanks."
You let go of his hand, and Shane had the chance to experience a split-second of disappointment before you used your now free arms to wrap him in a hug. "You can tell me if this is okay or not," you said, your words muffled by his Joja jacket.
"It's okay," he responded quickly, trying not to squeeze you too tightly.
You pulled back, wondering for a moment if it would be going too far, before you decided to press a quick kiss to his cheek. You stood, walking off to water your crops. "I should probably let you go, you don't wanna be late for work."
Shane's face was all pink, and he nodded after a moment's delay. "Right, yeah, um...thanks for listening to me," he stood as well. "See you later."
You watched him take the path from your house into town, zipping up his jacket against the wind. He had patched the holes in it.

paper rings | harvey x f!reader
Harvey remembers when he thought you were the love of his life; you don't seem to recall a time like that at all. After inheriting your grandfather's farm, you finally get to move back to Stardew Valley. Little do you know a certain doctor has patiently been waiting for your return.
a/n: the start of a harvey fic i posted on ao3, thought i would share!
ch. 1 | ch. 2
paper rings masterlist
-
chapter one: i bet you think about me -> “the love that you’re lookin’ for is the love that you had.”
Harvey hummed lightly to himself as he walked through Pierre's store, carefully eyeing the ingredients of each snack he put in his basket. Although he hated to admit it, he was finally beginning to feel his age; the walks that used to be so simple to him were starting to drag, and he found he needed a minimum of eight hours of sleep each night to wake up energized. He sighed lightly, longing for his college days when he easily walked across campus and would sometimes stay up all night studying for a final.
Still, as more and more time went on, his health was his top priority. His eyes lit up as he saw his favorite granola bars were back in stock.
"Harvey! I haven't seen you in a minute." Harvey turned to greet Caroline with a small smile. "You must be busy. With spring coming along, I'm sure all the kids will be heading over to your clinic with runny noses." She wasn't wrong. Whenever the weather got a bit warmer after the winter, Harvey was always greeted by the town's kids and teens, all reluctantly sent by their parents for a check-up. Most of the time, he simply sent them home with allergy medication.
"Of course, my favorite time of the year," he joked, shaking his head. "How have you been, Caroline? Have those vitamins I recommended you been doing you well?" He picked up a box of cereal from the shelf, pushing his glasses up and examining its label.
She shook her head in disbelief. "I couldn't believe it — I never knew those things could affect me so much! I've been feeling much more awake and energized thanks to you."
Harvey let out a slightly embarrassed laugh. "Ah, well, it's what I'm here for, isn't it?" He traded the cereal he had in hand with another one on the shelf, in awe at the amount of sugar in all of them. "You hear about anything new going on? I'm afraid I haven't been to the saloon in over a week now, so I haven't been very filled in."
Caroline pursed her lips as she thought. "Nothing too crazy going on in the Valley," she said after a moment. "Pierre's been preparing for the spring, Abigail's been practicing a ton with Sam and Seb, just the usual." Harvey nodded, humming in triumph as he finally found a box of cereal to his liking.
"Oh, and remember that girl who used to come by all the time? I heard her grandfather passed away, poor thing. He was a great man." What?  Harvey froze, smile dropping. "Now that I think about it, weren't the two of you good friends? She's taking over his farm this spring, you know."
Thud.
The box landed between the two as he remained silent, his face beginning to burn.
"Harvey? Everything alright?"
"Sh-she is?" Harvey stuttered. When he realized how concerned Caroline looked, he cleared his throat, hastily grabbing the cereal off the floor and throwing it into his basket. "That's wonderful! I mean, not wonderful about her grandfather, but—" He shook his head. "I actually have something to tend to at the clinic, so I'll go check out now!"
Pierre gave his wife a quizzical look as Harvey rushedly handed his items to him, ears turning a shade of bright red. Caroline shrugged, clueless as to what she had said to make the doctor so flustered. The two watched half-amused as he left the store with a quick "thank you," keeping his gaze on the floor.
"He's always been a bit shy," Caroline reasoned. Pierre nodded, the couple returning to their tasks.
How? How was this happening? Harvey's thoughts raced as he made his way into his apartment, practically slamming the door shut as he sunk to the floor. Memories came rushing back to him as your name rang through his head, realizing it had been too long since the two of you had spoken. No wonder he didn't hear about your decision beforehand. Guilt began to eat at him as he thought of everything he had missed in your life, taking off his glasses to rub his face in stress. Would you even want to speak with him anymore?
Finally, after nearly half an hour of contemplation, Harvey scrambled up the courage to pick up his phone and give you a call. He could feel his heart hammering in his chest as the dial tone rang, half of him hoping you wouldn't pick up. At least then he could avoid the situation a little longer, right?
"Hello? Harvey?"
Crap.
-
"Hello? Are you there?" you repeated, raising a brow. "Harvey, did you butt dial me?"
"No, no! I'm here," your friend replied, a slight panic in his voice. "Uh, well . . . how have you been?"
You let out a huff of laughter. "Some things never change, do they, Harvs?" His old nickname slipped off your tongue with ease. You remember when you were kids together, running around playing tag — back then, you would chase him and call him Harvsy. "You're still just as charming as ever," you tease.
There's a beat of silence before he replies with an awkward laugh. "You know me better than anyone." He pauses. "So, I heard you're moving to Stardew Valley?"
"Ah, right, I am! Sorry, I never got the chance to tell you," you sighed. "It's been a while since we last talked, huh?"
"I suppose it has," he agreed, and you note the twinge of sadness in his tone.
It's not like you wanted to stop talking to him, not at all, but with all the complications going on in your life, it was hard to keep in touch with your old friend. You always saw Harvey as a kid whenever you visited your grandfather's farm, as his grandparents also lived there. The two of you grew even closer throughout your pre-teen and teen years, always sharing music and studying together. You even saw him from time to time during college — although he went to a bigger, more prestigious medical university, you were both in Zuzu City and got food with each other from time to time. After you graduated and ended up working at Joja Cola HQ, though, you began to see Harvey less and less. Both of you tried to call regularly, you really did, but when your life began to look too black and white, you gave up on nearly all your social connections, focusing entirely on your work and making it through each day. It didn't help that he was busy running his clinic, too.
Things didn't get much better when your grandfather died. He passed away towards the end of your college years, leaving you an envelope you promised not to open until you felt, "crushed by the burden of modern life." You had actually spoken to Harvey over the phone about your grandpa's words, though both of you were equally confused at what he meant.
That is, until working for Joja became too unbearable.
Only then did you open the letter, more miserable than you had been in your life. Despite it all, your grandfather had left you the greatest gift he could have in order to reignite your spirit: his farm.
"Well," you started, snapping out of your short daze, "I'll be in town in three days, so why don't we catch up then?"
More silence.
Was he always this quiet? Or have you two just grown apart?
"Harvey," you sang, "you still there?"
"Yes!" he exclaimed. "Yes, of course, just give me a call when you're on your way, I can, uh, help you move in. If you need help, that is!" You laughed lightly; he was still the same dork you knew in the past.
"I would love some help, if you can spare the time," you said, smiling. "I'll see you soon, then?"
"Yes, I'll see you soon." You hung up, a smile lingering on your face.
I wonder if he has a girlfriend, you wondered. He had never been the most outgoing, but surely he had to have met someone. You shrugged to yourself, continuing to pack some of your belongings into boxes.
Suddenly, going back to the Valley had become all the more exciting.
-
Harvey sank into his chair at the saloon, hand covering half his face as he began to question his life choices.
"Oh, come now, my friend," Elliott chided, taking a swig of his drink. "Where is your courage, your hope? You should be ecstatic that your love is returning to the town!"
Shane grunted. "Yeah, right," he grumbled. "Odds are, she's already moved on."
Elliott frowned at him, but ignored him nonetheless. "Tell us what is on your mind, Harvey."
Harvey sighed. He had asked to sit between the two at the bar in hopes of gaining some clarity, but all he seemed to have achieved was embarrassment. While Elliott was overly enthusiastic about his "long lost love's return," Shane couldn't care less about the subject, bluntly stating his pessimistic thoughts. He felt as if there was an angel and a devil, literally, on either of his shoulders — Elliott was to his left, while Shane was to his right.
"Shane may be right," Harvey admitted, rubbing his forehead and closing his eyes. "What's the point of thinking about all this if she's already taken?" With that thought, he finished the remainder of his drink, trying to ignore the stinging in his chest.
The two men beside him were the only ones who knew about his feelings for you. Harvey confided in them from time to time, as they were closest to his age and they had known each other for quite some time. Although their personalities often clashed and seemed impossibly different, it was nice to talk to them. At least he and Elliott enjoyed it, anyway — Shane never outwardly showed his appreciation for them, except for the occasional half-smile at their jokes that they missed the majority of the time.
Elliott shook his head. "You mustn't give up before the battle has even begun," he stated, leaning closer to look Harvey in the eyes. "How long has it been since you first felt this way toward her?"
". . . Ah, you see," Harvey began quietly, his blush adding to the warmth of the alcohol he had drunk, "I've actually liked her for quite some time."
His friend hummed. "Since college, then?"
"A bit longer . . ."
"Oh, high school sweethearts? How romantic!" Shane rolled his eyes.
The doctor cleared his throat. "Actually, since we were about, let's see . . . ten? A little younger?"
Shane choked on his drink as Elliott's mouth fell open.
"Fucking hell," Shane swore, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. "That's like, what, two decades?"
Harvey wished he could cover his face with a blanket and disappear. "It started off as a crush, of course, we were kids," he feebly defended. "Then it just never really faded." He jumped when he felt Elliott strongly grab his shoulder, a new fire lighting his eyes.
"This, my friend, is fate," he claimed confidently. "I am sure now that you two were meant to be."
"Elliott, please—"
"Not another word!" He rose from his seat, dropping coins on the table and giving Gus a thumbs up. "Gus, I'd like to pay these gentlemen's tabs tonight." The bartender grinned, returning the gesture. "Now, Harvey, I advise you go home and rest for your lover's arrival—"
"Not so loud!" Harvey begged, frantically checking if anyone had heard.
"—as you must look your utmost best for her," Elliott finished.
Shane groaned. "Listen, thanks for paying for the drinks, pal, but I think we're done here. You're killin' him." With a quick nod to Harvey and a scowl at Elliott, Shane shrugged his jacket on and made his way out.
"I expect to hear all about your reunion, Dr. Harvey," Elliott said, putting on his own coat and placing a hand on his shoulder once again. "Best of luck! Let fate guide you." A few people glanced over at his theatrics, and Harvey truly questioned why he had chosen to confide in him in the first place.
As his friend left, Gus wandered over to him, brow raised. "What was that all about?" he asked.
Harvey shook his head. "It's a long story," he sighed, pushing his glass toward the bartender. He ignored the fact that he had gotten five refills above his usual limit; this was a dire situation.
Every time he closed his eyes, all he could see was your smile.
Miss me, Harvs?
He sighed.
"Another glass, please."

part of being a creator means you can create the same thing over and over. Van Gogh painted sunflowers endlessly. Monet would paint the same scenes over in different weather and lighting, making that a theme of the Impressionist movement. I’m about to write a story about a shy semiverbal tiny being caught by a terrifying but ultimately harmless giant for the thousandth time. I’m truly following in the steps on the old masters.

Recently passed a large milestone for A Meteorite Among The Stars by publishing its 20th chapter. Honestly, I didn't think that I would be able to keep it up, let alone stay interested in writing fanfiction. I'm currently juggling several WIPs (HAH-I've gotten to this point), but I'm not stressed. I'm actually quite inspired.
For AMATS, I like to think that the first 10 chapters established characters and connections. Chapters 11 - 19 focused on building those connections. Chapters 20 - 29 should be very interesting, and what better way to welcome them in than with this spicy art by @sunshinecovey (yes again because why not????)
This is technically a spoiler for a future chapter but it's super gorgeous and needs to be seen NOW.
Thank you again @sunshinecovey for putting up with my crazy ideas of bringing these two together. You can feel the tension can't you?

⋆。˚ 🌨 ˚。⋆。🌩˚☽˚。⋆⋆。˚ 🌨 ˚。⋆。🌩˚☽˚。⋆⋆。˚ 🌨 ˚。⋆。🌩˚☽˚。⋆⋆。˚ 🌨 ˚。⋆。🌩
Cold rain. Warmth.
A rhythmic musicality commences, its origin being from the rain pattering against the windowsill to your left. The sooty grey curtain is slightly drawn, shielding your eyes from the brightness of the outside world, allowing you to fully immerse yourself into the comfort and warmth of your duvet; to prevent you from worrying about anything but the moment itself.
A stubbly arm extends from behind you, and snags you by the waist, pulling you closer. He grunts as though there is something stuck in his throat, his hoarse voice vibrating and his warm, beer infused breath warms the nape of your neck. “Morning…” he says with a rough yawn, and you sense that he is on the verge of drifting off into another peaceful slumber.
You turn to face him. It’s too dark to make out anything but his swollen eyes. Last night was a rough night for him; he has nightmares often, so he asked if you could accompany him. As his boyfriend, you felt obliged to agree, not only for his own benefit, but because you secretly love moments like these. Waking up and feeling the presence of the person you love.
The alarm clock resting on the cabinet beside you jolts with such vigour, it shakes the entire bedside table. It beckons you to release it from its duty, and you do so, your arm stretching out from the cosiness of your sheets, to aggressively whack the hell out of its stop button. You sit up, now awoken by your own force. You know you won’t be able to rest anymore, so you rise, but you feel a hand pull your wrist, but not aggressively…sweetly. Gently.
“Please…stay” his entire face is now unveiled from the constraint of the clean white sheets, revealing a tranquil smile. One that took you many months to weaken his guard for. One you would pay any amount of money for. One you would pay the world for.
“Wait…let me make breakfast first, i’ll bring it back here, yeah? Breakfast in bed.”
He responds, but only with a “mm”.
You get up from the bed and make your way to the kitchen.
Opening the fridge, a draft emerges from the chilled interior, making you shiver. You reach for the carton of eggs when you feel something being wrapped around your shoulders. Shane’s hoodie.
“I couldn’t wait. Sorry.” He says, running circles into your back with his palms. He takes a seat on the barstool at the kitchen countertop, and watches you as you make him eggs on toast.
You crack the eggs. These eggs were the ones that you and Shane had collected from the pen. It’s a good memory; you tripped over a hay bail and went flying into Shane’s arms. He laughed. He laughed…You’d never seen him so happy. So free.
You pour the yolk and the white into a frying pan, and fry it until the edges are golden and crispy. Using a spatula to raise the egg onto his plate, you serve him first. His eyes light up, but not because of the food being presented to him, but because of the smile on your face. Joy ricochets off the creases of your lips, and you feel tears form in the ducts of your eyes.
“What’s…wrong?” he asks.
“I’ve just… never been so happy.” You say.

Pairing: Alex X Male Farmer/Player
Rating and warnings: Teen, mentions of past and present alcohol addiction
---
At first Alex thought the thunderstorm had awoken him, or maybe the TV. He’d fallen asleep in bed while watching a movie marathon.
He’d spilled his veggie chips. He was grumbling and brushing the crumbs off his mattress when he heard a loud knocking. It wasn’t the storm or the movie playing on the TV that had woken him up. Someone was at the front door, in the middle of the night.
Alex grabbed his bat from the closet and went out into the hall. The door to his grandparents’ room was still shut, but that didn’t surprise him. Both of them were hard of hearing, his grandad more than his nan. Nothing short of an explosion could wake them.
He flicked on the porch light and glanced out the peephole. Colton was standing there, drenched in the pouring rain. His skin had a greyish cast beneath the glare of the porch light and his eyes were wide and faraway. Something was very wrong. Alex tossed the bat onto the nearby couch and quickly opened the door.
“Sorry—” Colton said immediately, though his voice sounded faint. “You were the closest—”
“Colt! What happened, dude? Are you okay?”
He just stood there vaguely, looking dazed, so Alex gently put one hand on his shoulder and drew him into the house. Colton’s sneakers squelched as he toed them off, leaving them on the mat by the door.
It felt so wrong, seeing Colton, who was usually so cheerful and full of life, somber and glassy-eyed. Alex kept a hand lightly on the farmer’s shoulder, leading him down the hall to his room.
Colton’s clothes were soaked through and the shoulder beneath Alex’s hand was cold as ice. Colton shivered constantly and his teeth chattered, but he didn’t seem to notice either.
“Here,” Alex grabbed a clean pair of sweats and an old Jumino Kart hoodie. “You can dry off and change in there…” He motioned to his small en suite bathroom.
The farmer nodded, but it took a full minute before his feet carried him through the door into the washroom. Sick with worry, Alex waited, teeth biting into his lower lip.
“Alex,” still that vague, faint voice. So unlike Colton. “I’m stuck…”
He cracked the bathroom door and peered in. Colton was indeed tangled in his soaked T-shirt. A towel had also somehow gotten twisted up in everything as well.
Alex grabbed a dry towel and slung it over his shoulder, helping Colton out of his tangled shirt and the extra towel, hanging them both over the shower door. Even after being freed, Colton just stood there looking lost, like he wasn’t really sure where he was. What happened?
“Here…” Alex gently patted Colton’s skin dry.
He nearly jumped from his skin when Colton’s arms abruptly wrapped around him, pulling him into an icy cold embrace. Alex’s face burned bright red, suddenly all too aware that he was only wearing his boxer briefs and a tatty crop top. And that Colton was shirtless. And hugging him.
“Sorry…!” Colton lurched like someone had pinched him and moved away. “Just needed… to feel someone. Sorry, Alex.”
“It’s alright, dude.” Alex replied, even more worried than before. “I’ll… just… wait for you in my room.”
He fled the bathroom, darting around his bedroom until he found a clean pair of joggers and pulled them on. Something was clearly going on with Colton. Really not the time to be thinking about how undressed they were.
Clad in his dry, warm borrowed clothes, Colton was shivering much less than before when he emerged from the washroom and his cheeks even had a little color to them, but his expression was still hollow.
“Colton…” Alex led him to the bed and sat down with him. “What’s going on?”
“I was— Finn and I were out for a hike…”
Alex jolted; Finn, the farmer’s dog, wasn’t with him. “Did something happen to Finn?”
Colton blinked slowly then looked at Alex like he just noticed he was there, “No. I left Finn with… when I—after—” The farmer seemed to lose his train of thought and Alex felt guilty for interrupting.
“Sorry,” he said, hesitating before setting one hand on Colton’s knee. “You and Finn were on a hike…”
Colton nodded, his hand covered Alex’s and squeezed. His fingers were brutally cold. “Finn and I were on an after-supper hike, wanted to get a little exercise in before the storm got worse… and Finn… Finn found Shane…”
Oh, fuck. Shane’s alcohol addiction wasn’t exactly a secret, especially with it spilling out into the public more and more lately. Alex himself had helped Shane, too drunk to walk, home just last week.
A million questions arose, but he didn’t interrupt again. He waited, rubbing the warmth back into Colton’s hand.
“There were so many beer cans… I couldn’t believe he was still alive… his lips were blue…”
Alex released Colton’s hand so he could wrap an arm around his shoulders instead. The other man leaned into him, still shivering slightly. Alex knew how terrifying it must’ve been for Colton to find Shane like that. He’d had a taste of it when he was a kid, before his dad took off for good. He’d also dealt with his own issues with alcohol in high school. It had never developed into a full-blown Problem, but he’d skated close enough to scare the shit out of himself and Haley. He’d never drank another drop since.
“I was afraid to leave him and of course there’s no cell reception out there… I had to carry him back to Marnie’s.” Colton’s voice was slowly gaining its strength back, his thoughts and gaze becoming clearer the more the words flowed. “Leah came to look after Jas and Finn. I drove Marnie and Shane to Harvey’s clinic…”
Alex waited on pins and needles. Was Shane…? Thunder crackled ominously overhead.
Colton blew out a breath, “Doc says Shane will be fine… physically, but it was a near thing. He’s going to talk to him about the emotional and mental matters when he wakes up. Marnie’s with him, told me to go home and sleep, but I… I couldn’t. I couldn’t go home. You were… you were the closest…” He suddenly sat up straight, pulling away from Alex. “Shit, it’s so late. I didn’t realize! I’m sorry—”
Alex shook his head, gently drawing Colton back toward him. “It’s fine, Colt. I just wish you’d called me; I would’ve walked over with my umbrella.”
“Sorry,” Colton said again. “…Thanks.” The color suddenly drained from his face once more, “I feel dizzy…”
“Lie down. I’ll get you some water.”
He helped Colton lie in his bed and tugged the blanket over his legs. He trod down the hall passed his grandparents’ bedroom (the door was still firmly shut) and got a glass of water from the kitchen.
“…Will you lie down with me?” Colton asked when he returned.
“Y-yeah, of course.” Alex replied, setting the water within Colton’s reach on his bedside table.
Colton folded the blanket back.
It was a tight squeeze. Both he and Colton were tall and his bed wasn’t really meant for two, but with their legs tangled together and Colton’s head tucked under his chin they just fit.
The farmer’s hands, finally warm, slid up his back. “…Thank-you, Alex.”
At another time, in another moment, that simple motion would’ve had him shivering. Alex hugged Colton close, just wanting the other man to know he’d always be there when he needed him.
“Don’t mention it.”

"They say I'm too young to love you.
That I don't know what I need"
‘’I love you, "she said, staring into his dark eyes as he looked down at her.
“Don’t fucking say that” He grunted taking her chin between his fingers and pinching hard “You’re too young to be with a loser like me.” Shane smirked leaning down placing a light kiss against her pouting mouth, the smell of beer trailing after him as he pulled away.
“Now shut up and let me fuck you”
A/N-This is a smidge of a fic I'd love to write, but I don't know if I will ever follow through. If you like it, I'd like to know that. And if you'd like more, I would also like that.
Not proofread because I let google docs do that for me.

Sea Blooms - Stardew Valley (Shane/Gender neutral Farmer)
His heart isn’t beating rapidly. Instead, it beats in tandem with the rise and sigh of the ocean. It’s a peaceful night, and the Pelican Town residents marvel at the sight of the Moonlight Jellies.
Here, the ocean spray scatters across Shane’s face and his heart sings in tune to the merfolk’s melody.
Beside him, Shane feels the Farmer’s warmth. Their clothed arms touch, and he wonders if they could feel the static coursing through his veins as his fingers drum along the rails. Shane watches them, seeing their expression grow soft with childlike wonder at the glassy water.
“Beautiful,” Shane breathes out. “Absolutely stunning.”
“Yeah,” the Farmer murmurs, eyes darting back and forth in excitement. “Nature is stunning, isn’t she?”
“I actually meant—”
Shane speaks again, but Lewis’ voice rings through the night air.
“Everyone, it’s time to launch the boat!”
The first candle boat sails into the water and parts the darkness with a soft glow. More candle boats follow behind and soon they unfurl like golden sea blooms bobbing across the ocean in quiet grandeur.
The Farmer grabs Shane’s arm and shakes him. “Look, I think I see—”
They both hold their breaths as the water illuminates. Moonlight Jellies emerge from the distance like underwater lanterns. Their beauty and luminescence hush the chatter into a quiet awe.
Moonlight Jellies tuck themselves under the glassy waves and observe the villagers from a distance. One bobs slowly to the surface, approaching the deck where Shane and the Farmer stand, as if intelligently assessing the land dwellers. The Moonlight Jelly bubbles in the water, swirling around in a figure eight circuit.
The Farmer lifts an eyebrow and smiles in Shane’s direction.

paper rings | harvey x f!reader
You think back to when Harvey was your best friend; Harvey reminisces on how he fell for you.
ch. 1 | ch. 2 | ch. 3
paper rings masterlist
chapter two: so high school -> "tell me 'bout the first time you saw me."
Harvey woke up with a groan, rolling over to turn off his blaring alarm. He rose from his incredibly comfortable bed while keeping his eyes shut, not ready to face the day just yet. The birds outside his window sang loudly, as if they were reminding him of something.
His eyes shot open, scrambling for his glasses and checking the date on his phone.
Spring 1.
He couldn’t believe it. How had time passed so quickly? He swore he felt like he’d just spoken to you on the phone. He began to pace around his apartment, hands running through his hair as the realization began to sink in.
He was going to see you.
He was going to see you, in front of him, for the first time in years.
Harvey wanted to scream. No, he wanted to crawl back into bed and pretend nothing about his life was any different.
In reality, he knew he didn’t want to do any of that. If anything, he wished he had the confidence or the courage Elliott had spoken so passionately about so he could spill his heart out to you.
He sighed. If only he had the capability of doing any of the three options he’d presented to himself. Instead, he took a few deep breaths to center himself, trying his best to stay collected. What was he so anxious about, anyway? It’s not like he was talking to any other person, it was you , the person he once considered his closest friend.
More specifically, the person he once thought he could spend the rest of his life with.
Just then, Harvey’s phone rang, your name lighting up the screen. He cleared his throat and chugged the glass of water on his nightstand before answering, reminding himself to sound calm.
“Y/N, good morning!”
“Good morning, Harvey.” God , he swore he could listen to you say his name all day. He shook his head; what in the world was wrong with him? “I know it’s a bit early, I hope I didn’t wake you.”
“No, not at all. I’ve been up for a bit now,” he said, ignoring the fact that he was still in his pajamas. “You’re moving in today, aren’t you? What time will you be here? I’ll make sure to clear my schedule as much as I can.”
“Oh, right! I forgot to tell you, I actually got here last night,” you replied, voice bright as ever. "It was late, though, so I figured I would get some rest before unpacking.”
Harvey blinked, slowly processing your words. Maybe he should have downed a cup of coffee, too. “So, you’re here?”
You laughed. “Don’t sound too excited. Come over whenever, okay? I’m going to start unpacking in a few minutes.”
“Right, I’ll be over soon!”
Harvey got dressed into his usual outfit, even remembering to spritz on some cologne before leaving his home. He figured if he was panicking internally, he might as well try to look put together on the outside. After making sure he didn’t have any appointments throughout the day, he locked up the clinic and put up the ‘Closed’ sign, making sure to leave his phone number on the door in case of emergencies.
“Harvey! You’re up early.” Pierre waved, making his way over to the front of the clinic. He glanced at the sign. “Closed for the day, huh? I’m guessing you have errands to run?”
“Well, uh, I promised the new farmer I would help her move in,” he explained, trying not to cringe at the thought of how he reacted in the store the other day. “You remember Y/N, don’t you?”
“Why, of course! You two were running around the town before Pierre’s even existed.” Pierre sighed, a wistful look taking over his face. “I was in my early twenties then. Caroline and I had just started dating, but I was already thinking about what kind of ring I was going to get her. We were so in love.” He paused, frowning. “I wonder when that changed.”
Harvey cleared his throat loudly, desperately wanting to escape the awkward topic. “I should get going, I don’t want to keep her waiting.”
“Of course. I’ll see you around, Harvey!”
“See you! And remind Abigail to set up her check-up appointment with me!” Pierre nodded knowingly and waved goodbye, turning back to start opening up his own shop.
Harvey let out a breath of relief as he turned away, suddenly racing to get to your farm. Once he got to the entrance, though, he stopped in his tracks, waves of memories beginning to flood his thoughts. Sure, the farm was more beat up than he remembered, but for the most part, everything was where it had been all those years ago. He especially recalled the times when he had slowly fallen for you more and more, his sentiments only growing stronger as the two of you got to know each other better over the years.
As he slowly made his way to your front door, he reminisced on the first time he realized he cared for you in a much stronger way than he initially thought.
-
“Y/N, wait up!” Harvey couldn’t make out what you yelled back as he ran to catch up to you, the farm animals unamusedly watching him through their fences. You had been so excited to show him all the “secret spots” on your grandfather’s farm.
He’d only caught up to you after you tripped over a rock jutting up from the ground, scraping your knee. You looked up at him with big, watery eyes, lip trembling.
“Grandpa’s gonna yell at me,” you mumbled, wiping your eyes on your sleeve. “He always says I’m too clumsy.”
Not entirely sure what the right thing to do was, Harvey opted to squat beside you, shrugging off the small backpack full of “emergency supplies” his mother always made him carry around. He took out the mini first aid kit, grabbing the ointment and a bandaid before delicately treating your knee.
“You know,” he started, trying to distract you from the stinging of the medicine, “I’m going to be a doctor when I grow up.”
Your eyes widened, suddenly inspired. “Really?” He nodded. “Wow. How’d you think of that?”
He gave a small smile as he stuck the bandaid on. “Then, I can always help you whenever you get hurt. You’ll always have someone to take care of you!”
You grinned before tackling him with a hug, wrapping your arms tightly around his shoulders. Harvey’s face was burning, though he blamed the heat of the sun.
“You’re my hero, Harvs,” you stated confidently, your hold on him unrelenting.
-
Your hero.
He huffed a laugh to himself at those words, shaking his head. Well, at least he kept his word — after that summer, he’d gone home and begged his parents for books on how to become a doctor. His medical career had begun before he’d even reached middle school, much to his mother’s delight.
Just as Harvey was about to make his way up to your porch, a glimpse of blue caught his eye. Squinting to make sure he wasn’t mistaken, he peeked below the stairs, wondering if an animal had gotten stuck.
Instead, he was met with the face of a small, blue . . . blob?
No, that was impossible. They couldn’t be real, could they? Harvey had only ever read myths about them.
As he leaned closer to double-check his hypothesis, the blob jumped toward his face, letting out a small squeak as it disappeared right in front of his nose.
He let out a shout and jumped backward, tripping on a thick clump of weeds and landing on his back with a thump. He groaned, readjusting his glasses as he sat up and rubbing the back of his head.
He didn’t even notice you were standing in your doorway until you let out a laugh.
-
You continued to laugh as Harvey stood up quickly, dusting off his clothes as he rambled on about some blue spirit he saw under your porch. You raised a brow — his excuses were becoming more and more creative. You spared him the embarrassment of calling out his ridiculous comment, deciding to walk over to him instead and fix the collar of his shirt.
“It’s good to see you,” you said, smiling up at him. Harvey stared at you for a moment before nodding and looking away.
“It’s good to see you, too,” he replied shyly. “It’s been about four years, hasn’t it?”
“Try five,” you corrected. “You left the city after med school, remember?”
His eyes widened. “That’s right. You were working while I was finishing up, weren’t you?”
You pursed your lips and nodded, thinking back to the period of your life when you had just begun working for Joja.
“Thinking back on it now, I should have just done more school, too,” you confessed. “Working for that damn company sucked the life out of me.”
Harvey laughed. “You think? You know, most people are overjoyed when they receive a promotion — you were miserable.”
“You remember that?”
“How could I not? You were in tears in the middle of the restaurant we were eating at.”
You slumped in your chair, eyes burning with threatening tears as you looked at your childhood friend.
“I’m doomed, Harvs,” you sighed, leaning forward to pick at your uneaten meal. “Is this what my life has come to? Working for some company that’s probably killing the earth as we speak?” You laughed, dropping your fork miserably. “At least one of us is doing something right for the world. Maybe you can share some of your good karma so I won’t be doomed in my next life, too.”
Harvey looked at you with an almost distraught look on his face. He hadn’t fully grown out his mustache back then, stubble trailing from his chin to his cheeks. You vaguely remember thinking facial hair would suit him.
“Y/N, please, we’re still young,” he pleaded. “It’s too early to be talking like that. Besides, everyone has different paths in life, and you never know where yours will take you.”
Sniffling, you’d shrugged, unable to get over the fact you were profiting from a company like Joja. Hell, you’d done such a good job that they’d given you a promotion, not that it was something you felt any pride over.
“Maybe we can run away,” you’d suggested idly, not noticing how Harvey choked on the soup he was eating.
“Wh-what was that?”
“Let’s move to a different country,” you suggested, smiling at the absurd thought. “Then, I can open a cafe, and you can open your own clinic right next to me. I’ll trade you coffee and cookies for free monthly check-ups.”
He’d laughed, though he wouldn’t meet your eyes for some reason. “That sounds like a plan. Now, you have to eat. I can only imagine the amount of sodium your usual diet of cup ramen consists of.”
“Hey!”
-
You coughed, a bit embarrassed at your dramatism in the past.
“That wasn’t a great moment in my life, was it?” you admitted, shaking your head. “Well, now that I’m on the farm, I’m sure I can earn back all the good karma I lost working for that evil place!”
Harvey smiled, nodding. “I’m sure you’ll more than makeup for it.” He glanced at the singular box left on your porch. “Is this . . . all you brought?”
You laughed, turning and gesturing for him to follow. You opened your front door to reveal the cozy cabin your grandfather used to stay in, several boxes already piled up in the living room.
“So, I’ve already moved in some of the simple stuff,” you started, moving some of them aside, “but for the life of me, I can’t get a good grip on that last one, it’s a bit too heavy. One of the ladies in town helped me carry it to the porch — Robin, I think it was?” The redhead and Mayor Lewis had greeted you the evening before, going over some basics and helping you carry some of your belongings from the moving truck.
“Yes, Robin! I’m glad you met her, I’m sure the two of you will get along.” Before you could reply, Harvey easily lifted the box off the porch, carrying it inside and placing it in your living room.
You blinked.
Had he always been that strong?
“What’s in this one, anyway?” he wondered, looking at you curiously.
You put a pin in your thought and walked over to him, opening the box with a smile. After taking out the fragile items you had placed at the top, you revealed what you’d shoved to the bottom as cushioning. Harvey’s jaw dropped, amusement lighting his eyes as he laughed.
“I can’t believe you still have this,” he said, picking up the giant stuffed animal. “I thought you would’ve given it away by now.”
You gasped, feigning shock as you grabbed the weighted bear away from him. “You thought I would betray Mr. Biscuit? How could you!” You looked at the toy affectionately, placing him next to your bed. “We won him together, after all.”
Harvey cocked his head. “We did?”
“Is that not how you remember it, big guy?” you joked.
“Well, not exactly,” he said, laughing nervously. “You won him after beating one of those carnival games, didn’t you?”
You hesitated, looking at the ceiling as you thought. “I guess I did,” you stated, “but I like to think of it as a team effort.”
-
You smacked your forehead as you pitifully watched Harvey struggle to win the game once again, the younger kids around him giving him smug looks.
You felt a bit guilty; this was your idea, after all. Harvey had been adamantly against going to the Stardew Valley Fair that year, claiming he had to regain his focus since school was starting the following week.
“Junior year is critical when it comes to getting into colleges,” he’d explained. “I can’t mess up my applications because of some festival.”
“Harvey, come on,” you had begged, clasping your hands together. He frowned and looked away, trying not to give in. “Please, let’s just go! Think about it, when is the next time we’re going to go to the fair together?”
“Next year! After we pass our classes!” You rolled your eyes, knowing that “passing” for him meant acing every course he took.
“Fine then,” you huffed, crossing your arms and looking away. “I’ll go by myself and tell everyone about how you left me there, alone.”
“Y/N, don’t be ridiculous.” You ignored him, opting to look at the shape of your nails instead. “Stop this act, you know I’ve been planning on going home today for weeks. My parents are expecting me.” You hummed, wondering if you should clip them or let them grow out. “Fine, fine! I’ll go, just . . . let me call my mother,” Harvey sighed. You grinned, bubbling with excitement next to him as he reluctantly took out his phone.
After watching him play the games, though, part of you wished he had given up. Sighing, you stormed up to him, pushing him away and snatching the slingshot from his hands.
“What are you—”
Without hesitation, you began shooting at the targets in front of you, easily hitting them and just barely winning against your opponents. The kids groaned in disappointment, sulking away as you excitedly picked out your reward.
Harvey simply looked at you in amazement, unable to speak.
You showed off your new prize, barely managing to hold it properly. “Look at what we got! Wasn’t this worth it?” He nodded slowly, still in awe of both your performance and the size of the stuffed toy. You shoved it into his arms, laughing at how he nearly toppled over. Before he got the chance to steady himself, you were racing off to see the booths nearby.
“Come on, let’s try the other games!”
“Y/N, slow down!”
-
“We can go again this year,” Harvey blurted. You looked at him in surprise. “I mean, we could, if you want to,” he corrected, composing himself.
You smiled. “We should,” you agreed. “We can win some more prizes. For now, though, want to help me unbox my things?”
“Of course. I guess we got a bit sidetracked.”
It didn’t take long for the two of you to have everything in place. After an hour passed, your house was finally starting to feel a little more homey — plants lined the corners, and your old rug was spread in front of the TV. Harvey helped you dust and mop the floors, opening all the windows so it could air out. The sun reached its peak in the sky when you finally decided you were done, leaning your back against the wall for support as you took a breather.
Harvey wiped the sweat off his forehead with his sleeve, setting the mop in his hand to the side. He had abandoned his jacket a bit ago, left in his white collared shirt and loosened red tie. You realized how grown up he looked. You darted your gaze away when he turned to you, looking accomplished.
“Looks like we’re just about done,” he said, looking around the room. “What do you think? Feel like home?”
“Just about,” you replied, taking in the amount of progress you’d been able to make with him. “Thanks a bunch, Harvs, I really owe you one.”
He shook his head, waving his hand. “It was my pleasure. Besides, take this as me making up for not keeping in touch all this time.”
“It was a two-way effort.” You grabbed his jacket and handed it to him, smiling. “We should sit down sometime and seriously catch up,” you suggested. “Are you free for dinner tomorrow?”
He looked at you for a moment — as if he didn’t realize you were talking to him — before nodding eagerly.
“Yes, I’d love to,” he said, pulling on his jacket. “There’s a place in the center of the plaza, the Stardrop Saloon. Does that work?”
“Works for me. I’ll buy you a drink,” you promised. You walked with him out the door, noticing how he glanced under your porch as he walked down the steps. “I’ll see you tomorrow, then?”
He nodded, smiling. “I’ll see you, Y/N.” You sighed as you watched him leave the farm, brow raised and arms crossed.
“Yeah,” you decided, walking into your new home, “he totally doesn’t have a girlfriend.”

"You're mine tonight, and that isn't ever gonna change."
His heart jumped as she ripped off her shirt, tossing it aside in the room. He agreed to go with Y/N into her home. She had come with him to the gridball game, he had kissed her, and now he was under her as she grinded down and kissed him as though she loved him.
How could that be though? He had been recovering but how could he be wanted by her?
Her chest pressed against his as she helped him out of the shirt. His hands clamored to latch onto her hips, wanting to touch everywhere. Her fingers threaded with his as she pinned them gently by his head, looking at him with a small smile.
"I'm in charge," Y/N said simply.
"Fuck yes."
