Animated movie of the day: Millenium Actress (Sennen Joyū, 2002)
Why do humans create art? It's probably impossible to point out a single reason, as there's multiple purposes for which the plethora of mediums that compose what we call art are used, but at it's core it's safe to say there's a core component: human expression. And tied to human expression also lies human connection.
Directed by Satoshi Kon and loosely inspired by the story of real actress Setsuko Hara (who retired from acting after a prolific career when she was still 43 years old and disappeared from public life until her death at 95, never having married), the film is about retired actress Chiyoko Fujiwara. Unlike Hara, she does agree to an interview later in her life to a director she knew at some point called Genya Tachibana, as both discuss her own prolific career.
What follows is one of the most striking films about… well, film. We see the life of a woman explored through her acting roles and what they meant to her, mixing the reality of that universe with the films within, which not only covers all sorts of genres including everything from jidaigeki to science fiction (hence spawning a millenium), but also simply allow the narrative to be guided by the motions of those films mirroring the actual events of Chiyoko's life, including an impossible love that pushed her to keep acting in the first place.
Not only is this one a fascinating piece because of it's intertwining of the real and the fictional, but simply because of what the fictional tries to communicate and hide in the first place. It shows an incredible passion for the medium, but more significantly, it is used to express the yearnings and those things left unsaid by the people involved. Visually explosive, it's as poetic as it is heartbreaking in the best way possible, powerfully conveying an entire life journey through the lens of artistic expression.

given the nature of this site that would either make them want to fuck him more or call him an autistic icon and infantilize him to hell
if bleach had come out ten years later this site would've been thirsting over baraggan
we can still do that btw. it's not too late
#bleach#nah i like his voice tho#in both the sub and the dub#but the sub more#fun fact: his voice actor (iizuka shōzō) also voiced nappa from dbz and zorc from ygo#unfortunately he passed away earlier this year#he was 89 but it's still sad

What if Xiaolin Showdown dubbed in Japan?
anonymous:
少林寺対決 (Shōrinji Taiketsu, literally knowing as Shaolin Showdown) is the Japanese dub of Xiaolin Showdown that aired on Nippon TV and TV Asahi.
Omi - Akemi Okamura Kimiko Tohomiko - Miyuki Sawashiro Raimundo Pedrosa - Kappei Yamaguchi Clay Bailey - Tōru Furuya Master Fung/Daddy Bailey - Kazuhiko Inoue Dojo Kanojo Cho - Shinpachi Tsuji Jack Spicer - Yūji Mitsuya Wuya - Naoko Watanabe Chase Young - Mamoru Miyano Hannibal Roy Bean - Shōzō Iizuka Katnappe - Yui Horie Tubbimura - Yuichi Nakamura Pandabubba - Hiroyuki Sanada Vlad/T-Rex/Klofange - Tesshō Genda Gigi - Nobuo Tobita Dyris - Kotono Mitsuishi Grand Master Dashi/Blind Old Swordman - Takehito Koyasu Master Monk Guan - Banjō Ginga Megan Spicer - Rei Sakuma Evil Doll - Mariya Ise Jermaine/Dude-Bot - Takahiro Sakurai Mr. Tohomiko/Raksha the Snowman - Shigeru Nakahara Jessie Bailey - Aoi Yabusaki Betie - Arisa Ogasawara Parrot - Tomoe Hanba Omi’s Dad - Atsushi Kisaichi Omi’s Mom/Singing Old Lady/Evil Granny Lily - Sanae Takagi Blind Old Man - Masaharu Maeda Chucky Choo - Yamadera Koichi
What do you think?
__________
This is a pretty solid fan voicecast!
Akemi Okamura especially would pull off a perfect Omi, I think. Could pull off that childish, high-pitched, almost mascot-y voice, and she does playfulness/cheekiness well! Something like Nami would suit him. That's definitely my favorite pick of the list! Kappei Yamaguchi works well for Rai too, a Ranma-like voice would fit him perfectly.
Mamoru Miyano... I can see where you're coming from there, and he's a solid pick for Chase's general vibe for sure, but I'd personally for with Miyu Irino. Chase's voice isn't quite so deep and dark. There's something of a heroic sort of feel to it, which really works well as for him as a warrior who defected from evil.
Miyuki Sawashiro as Kimiko is a surprising choice, but I think it'd be interesting to hear Kimiko in her voice! Same for Tōru Furuya, not who I would have assumed someone would pick for Clay, but I could see it working. I'd go for Masashi Ebara for Clay?
I dunno though, I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world about seiyuus. The rest of the list checks out pretty passably from my perspective!
