In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Suzanne Mulrain on her contribution to the book Clerical Sexual Misconduct (August 29, 2023) The abuse, harassment, or devaluation of women, in any form by Catholic priests and bishops, raises concerns about:
whether clerics have a healthy understanding of their own inherent dignity as male persons and spiritual fathers;
whether clerics have a healthy understanding of the inherent dignity of women as female persons and spiritual mothers; and
whether seminary formation is adequately preparing future priests to interact with women in a healthy, mature, and holy manner.
This volume commences a foundational conversation about certain deficiencies in light of God’s plan for men and women, redeemed by His grace. The essays examine the scriptural, theological, anthropological, and psychological dimensions of the Catholic view of men and women and related issues.Understanding that the Church has norms and practices in place to protect girls and women from clerical sexual abuse, this volume offers an opportunity to deepen the conversation about remaining psychological, spiritual, and theological matters.Like the first volume, Clerical Sexual Misconduct: An Interdisciplinary Analysis, this second volume, subtitled A Foundational Conversation, is an answer to the call of Pope Francis for assistance from members of the faithful engaged in higher learning to serve the Church through study of the culture of abuse in its midst. #SexualMisConduct #Giuliani Giuliani’s sordid story just got worse Sexual misconduct is not confined to Republicans or to Trump and his ilk. We’ve seen enough since the start of the #MeToo movement to know that sexual harassment and sexual assault go on in the humblest of workplaces and the grandest corporate suites and are bipartisan in government and politics. Bill Clinton’s presidency was famous for its sex scandal. But the Trump era has been something special. We were warned that it would be, even before the 2016 election. We knew about the “Access Hollywood” “grab ’em by the pussy” tape. More than a dozen women accused Trump of sexual misconduct before or during his campaign. We elected him anyway. https://substack.com/profile/1657469-douglas-m-pierre/note/c-16351515

CO Catherine Dutcher Arrested for Making Teen's Dream Come True
Juvenile correctional officer Catherine Dutcher was arrested recently for making one lucky young man's dream come true. She now faces one count of having unlawful sexual relations with an inmate over the age of 16. Dutcher was working at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) at the time of her arrest but was immediately fired the same day. She was a rookie officer who was hired back in August of this year. At just 24 years old she certainly seems like someone within the desirable age range for males ages 16-22 like the guys locked up at KJCC. This author would not make light of this if 16 were not the legal age of consent in Kansas (https://drzlawfirm.com/blog/age-of-consent-laws-in-kansas/) which makes this relationship a crime solely due to the power dynamic which exists due to the male being an inmate and the female being an officer. If Dutcher were male and the "victim" female this author would likely feel differently but as someone whose been both a young man and much later an inmate I feel that prisons need more officers like this one. It is hard to take someone seriously who tries to label a man lucky enough to get laid by a woman in prison as a victim. Nothing so far suggests that she did anything but make that man's time better. If she were extremely fat, ugly, or otherwise undesirable to the point of needing to use her position to force men to have sex with her that would be one thing but nothing indicates that to be the case so far. Everything at this point indicates that some young man just got lucky. Perhaps she should consider applying for a position with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. According to public records, Catherine Michelle Jean Dutcher is a 24 year old resident of Topeka, Kansas. #catherinedutcher #sexualmisconduct #jailsex https://copblaster.com/blast/49937/co-catherine-dutcher-arrested-for-making-teens-dream-come-true?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Feminist Apparel’s Fired Employees Press Release
-- This statement is posted in screenshots here, but here is the full text version for easier access. --
9 of 10 FEMINIST APPAREL EMPLOYEES FIRED AFTER CONFRONTING CEO ABOUT HIS HISTORY OF SEXUAL ABUSE
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- After discovering that Alan J. Martofel, CEO of Feminist Apparel, had in 2013 publicly confessed to a history of sexual abuse, we, the staff at Feminist Apparel, demanded accountability and in response he fired us all without severance.
Feminist Apparel, our former employer, is a for-profit business run by a white-passing, cisgender, heterosexual man, Alan J. Martofel. On Thursday June 21, 2018, the majority of the staff became aware of a Facebook post Alan published on October 14, 2013, where he admits to a history of sexual abuse against women. He later admitted to have intentionally kept this post from his employees. In his own words regarding rape culture, harassment, and sexual assault:
“We’ve all either faced this firsthand, seen it, heard a firsthand account of it, or are guilty of it ourselves. I’m someone who’s guilty of it. I’ve grinded up on women on buses and at concerts without their consent. I’ve made out with ‘the drunk chick’ at a party because it was easier. I’ve put a woman’s hand on my dick while she was sleeping.”
He concludes his post by announcing that he created Feminist Apparel, a for-profit business, in response to his increased awareness of the evils of rape culture. Since then, Alan has continued to lead Feminist Apparel as CEO, with no additional oversight or advisory board. The company offers a collection of clothing, accessories and other products with messaging that combats rape culture, promotes consent, and centers women's empowerment and the feminist movement. The brand is overwhelmingly marketed to young women and non-cishet men who identify as feminists, activists, survivors and advocates for social change.
This means that for nearly five years, Alan J. Martofel, a confessed abuser, has been co-opting and profiting off of the movement to end rape culture, the intersectional feminist movement, and social justice movements more broadly. He exploited the experiences of survivors of sexual assault in his marketing and content strategy -- including a recent marketing campaign called “Beyond the [#MeToo] Hashtag,” specifically created for sexual assault awareness month (April 2018).
According to former staff members, Alan presented himself as a feminist and an ally, describing the social media platforms and offices of Feminist Apparel as “safe spaces” despite his carefully concealed prior admissions of assault. He presented himself as a safe person, his platform and his company as a “safe space” for his personal gain. It is clear to us now that he was presenting a false narrative for the purpose of branding the company and reaching a target consumer. As CEO and founder, he profited more than anyone else in the company, and embraced misogynistic business practices that directly contradict the values of intersectional feminism.
After learning this information, we, FA staff members who could be present with the approval of those who could not be, confronted Alan the day after (June 22, 2018) with our discovery of his history of abuse. In this meeting, we told him that he did not deserve to run this company and was unfit to do so; he was exploiting the very population he admitted to abusing; and he had broken our trust beyond repair by omitting the truth about his history of sexual assault despite numerous opportunities to let us know. We demanded that he cut all ties with Feminist Apparel and release a public statement to our customers and audience in which he would explicitly admit his deception and misconduct.
Like us, he had prepared a statement in which he confessed to writing the post and the specific instances of, in his own words, “non-consensual sexual activity” outlined in it. He admitted to a past instance, “I instigated relations with someone that was in bed with me by putting their hand on my penis as opposed to verbally asking for consent.” At this point in the conversation one of the present staff members interrupted him to iterate that the initial post stated that the person in question was asleep when this happened, to which Alan affirmed, “Yeah.” He went on to say that he too believed that Feminist Apparel had reached a point where his involvement presented itself as more of “liability” than an “asset,” and that he would look into the necessary next steps in order to extricate himself from the company, including stepping down from the position of CEO altogether. Alan then excused himself for the rest of the day, leaving us behind in the office to continue working.
Assuming Alan would keep his word and step down from his position, we decided to temporarily stop taking orders and turned off Facebook ads so that we could regroup and follow through with customers that had already purchased. Our plan was to return to the office on Monday to continue filling all outstanding orders and to discuss our next steps without Alan as our leader. However, on Sunday night, we received a message via Slack from Alan stating that he had suspended operations for the coming week (June 25-29, 2018). He announced that the office would be closed during that time, he would be processing all remaining orders through a dropshipper, and give us a more complete update “by the end of the week.” Despite many of us quickly responding with multiple practical questions about the future of our jobs and this company, Alan was silent. Friday came and went without any further communication from Alan, but we had begun noticing that he had removed our administrative access and privileges from multiple business accounts, including our website and social media.
On the evening of Saturday, June 30th, we discovered that our access to our company emails had been removed, and that someone (presumably Alan) reactivated most of the products on the website, enabling purchasing again. The Feminist Apparel Facebook account posted the following statement on July 1st  at 2:58 am EST:
“After much deliberation, we have decided to make some necessary changes behind the scenes of Feminist Apparel and, in doing so, are now actively seeking new management to help guide FA into the next chapter of its life, which we are extremely excited about. As always, thank you for your support!”
Between 5:00 and 6:00 am on the morning of July 1, nine out of ten staff members of Feminist Apparel were let go from the company without severance via individual emails from Alan Martofel. “Due to transitions the company is currently undertaking” was the only reasoning he gave for these terminations. The only remaining staff member was a remote part-time advisor who was not present for any of the above or made aware until a later date. On Monday July 2, three employees drove to Feminist Apparel headquarters in Somerdale, NJ to collect their personal items left in the office, but discovered that the locks had been changed.
Alan J. Martofel, a man with a history of sexual misconduct against women, remains the owner of Feminist Apparel. Until recently, he profited more than any employee there, at a rate of at least $60,000 per year (although it's difficult to confirm because all of the company's finances were linked to accounts in Alan’s name and he compensated himself instead of using the payroll system like all other employees). He has continually and repeatedly manipulated and exploited his employees for their experience, their stories, and their expertise, while paying many of them less than half of what he pays himself. His continued ownership of Feminist Apparel comes despite his declaration that, having become a liability to the company, he would step down and part ways with the company. Rather than keep his word and work with the existing staff to leave the company to be managed by someone more capable, he terminated employment for nine of ten known individuals -- all of whom identify as women, people of color, and/or queer people -- who disapproved of him remaining as a part of Feminist Apparel so he could continue to profit from its dedicated community, which includes sexual assault survivors.
We are currently seeking press opportunities to get the truth about Alan J. Martofel and Feminist Apparel out to our past customers, the brand’s supporters, and the greater public.
####
SYNOPSIS:  9 out of 10 staff members at privately held e-commerce brand Feminist Apparel, were fired without notice or severance after confronting the CEO and founder, Alan J. Martofel, about newly discovered information that he had confessed to a history of sexual abuse in 2013 when he first incorporated the company.

“No great woman has ever become great by being a good girl.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/30/theater/israel-horovitz-sexual-misconduct.html
“The nine women who spoke with The Times described Mr. Horovitz as a complicated man who was, at times, a charismatic mentor and empathic friend. He taught at several universities and nurtured young writers, was generous with his wisdom and dazzled with tales of his famous friends. “He was very dynamic and a real creative force,” said Ms. Corman, the actress.”
“But he also preyed on them, the women said, striking in moments of vulnerability and manipulating his role as director — as auteur — to take advantage of young women who were professionally dependent on him and often working far from home.”
“He was a good mentor, until he was the worst, probably most nightmarish mentor you could have,” Ms. Meinhardt said.”
I found this Podcast this morning and when I listened to it I couldn’t help but feel this was so much like my own experience.
“I heard a word used recently about people like this — they’re dream crushers,” Ms. Dann said. “He took this thing that was such a beautiful thing, this young hope, this sense of promise, and he just ruined it.”
The feelings I’m left with:  His actions were never appropriate and proceeded to violate a deep bond where a women should feel safe with a man whom is a mentor.  Yet he violates that position of power, the position of trust and shows her no man can be trusted.  She is objectified and every ounce of her femininity is magnified and treated as its only purpose it to serve the desires of a man.  She feels alone, dirty and begins to lose faith and confidence in her ability to do anything other then fuck her way to the top.
