Of course Catherine Morland falls in love with the charming, kind Henry Tilney who's unlike any man she's ever met and who's the kind of person who she didn't think existed outside of books. But the great thing is that Henry's equally enchanted by the completely ordinary Catherine, because she's something that's totally unfamiliar to his world. They're equally mythical to each other, and in finding each other they upend their ideas of what they thought the world was, and they build a new world together, and that is peak romance.

As a zoology nerd I can't help but find it funny when people get confused about furries and feral animals existing in the same setting as if it's weird that humans and other primates exist at the same time irl.

One night I doodled a bunch of design ideas for one of my dragon kinds (folks? I desided on the language use in Russian but still not so sure about the English version, sorry). Now I have a reason to tell you some ideas I have about them :D
Meet Norths, dragons from the, well, north. Here you can also see a half-blood North (the orange one), they're based off an old sketch of wandering musicians from Newt's backstory. Norths are sturdy and strong dragons, and their culture places great importance on the concepts of time/history and memory - this is reflected in the tradition of growing hair, "keeping one's own history with oneself". Norths aren't the most peaceful folk, they have a long and persistent feud with their neighbors from the mountains (Parhelion is a very interesting half-blood at that…).
I'm not quite sure yet what their fur colors would be (and I want some diversity), but most likely at least those who live further south have different colored summer and winter coats - the winter ones are paler. In short, dergs on this image have summer colors, that's why they are so bright 👍
And some more facts:
They don't have family names/surnames, young Norths will introduce themselves and be introdused as "[personal name], daughter/son/child of [name of one of the parents]". For example, "Irbis, daughter of Yagel" But any North can later on receive a title for some significant merits. The title is most often more or less flattering, describing the dragon's special skills or referring to a certain feat.
Norths are most likely resistant to the influence of the Abyss. Perhaps because of the horn. And the horn on their forehead is made of a very strong material, much stronger than normal horns, and its loss is a big blow to the North's honor.

7 Questions to Ask Yourself About Your Urban Fantasy Story
I came up with a list of 7 questions you should ask yourself when writing an urban fantasy story. Check them out!
When you’re writing an urban fantasy story, there are some things to consider, most of which have to do with taking a location that exists in real life and giving it a nice supernatural twist. How much do you know about the setting you’ve chosen? Is it a setting that already exists? And if it is, what are some questions to ask yourself about your urban fantasy story to take this setting that…

A Goblin Tea Party
Tumblr media
Scene: A Dimly Lit Glade in a Dense, Overgrown Forest
(Four goblins are seated around a rickety table adorned with mismatched tea cups and a teapot that's seen better days. The air is filled with the scent of over-steeped tea and mild trepidation.)
Gobnob: (Pouring tea, which looks suspiciously like mud) Now, remember, pinky out. That's how the fancy folk do it.
Snizzle: (Eyeing her cup suspiciously) I heard the fancy folk also drink tea that doesn't look like swamp water.
Grubwort: (Sniffing the air) Is it supposed to smell like a troll's laundry basket?
Muddles: Peace, friends! It's about ambiance, not aroma. Imagine, we are sophisticated beings partaking in high society's rituals!
Gobnob: (Grinning) Right, sophisticated! That's why I wore my best hat. (Points to a hat that appears to be made from an old boot.)
Snizzle: Sophisticated? I still have mud under my nails from yesterday's grub-digging fiesta.
Grubwort: (Takes a sip and grimaces) This tea tastes like it's been steeped in the tears of a disgruntled pixie.
Muddles: A touch of imagination, Grubwort. Imagine it's... an exotic blend from the far-off lands of... um, somewhere far-off.
Gobnob: Speaking of far-off, did anyone remember to invite the hobgoblin from the eastern marshes?
Snizzle: I thought you were going to do that!
Muddles: (Sighs) It appears our grand tea party is just us... again.
Grubwort: (Smiling) Well, at least we've got the best company. Who needs hobgoblins when you've got tea that could double as potion ingredients?
Gobnob: To us, the finest goblins in these woods!
(They all raise their cups, clinking them together, a chorus of laughter mingling with the clatter of teacups in the dim forest glade.)

Tim & Jason have both read the entire Dragon Riders of Pern series.
They regularly have very loud arguments over what genre it falls into.

io feels their magic mainly in two places - their chest, right below their heart (a proximity that makes them call it cor secundum - second heart), and in their arms. if io is actively using it they can feel the warmth and energy of it burning in their chest and along their arms, especially their inner arms and down into the palms. this feeling is shared by most magic-users in their canon. an energy in the chest, always present even if it's duller when passive, and an energy that trickles along the nerves of the arms and hands. the exact feeling of it (for io it's warm-hot, for latona it's cool, if not chilling) changes from person-to-person, but there is certainly a commonality among all of them.

rubber ducking my way through these revisions... i'm at the point where the thing is complete but not polished and the polishing phase never stops driving me nuts
#(sits my thistle charm down for a talk) pasensya na kuya i have to put you in a situation#falin thistle gothic fic is pretty much a done deal na but. the revisions... cries#there's a subplot i'm not sure i should add re: the winged lion but i feel that would be tangential#every thistle fic i write is like 'what the Fuck do i do with the demon'#in gothic au there's a scene where it speaks to falin from behind bed curtains but for the most part#thistle is the 'antagonist' in that one. shame bc the setting is ripe for demon nonsense it's just not the point ://#at best there could be a scene where falin gets a hold of the book but relinquishes it to her fucked up little friend#also got a yaad thistle au draft inspired by children's books where i'm not sure how strongly to push the abuser metaphor#before it creates tonal dissonance and detracts from the story... it feels important to include#and i don't want to shy away from that but it's a balancing act for sure. don't think the demon is actually going to show up in person tho#the only draft where the demon is the central focus is the laios thistle mythic fantasy one but that's on the backburner#didn't mean for this word vomit to be Demon Feature but alright#falin&thistle gothic horror: a little chatty. appears in maybe 2-3 scenes to be a manipulative creep#yaad&thistle quiet fantasy: ominous background presence. personification of the world. appears in visions/symbols but never speaks#laios&thistle mythic fantasy: the only reason i haven't written this yet is because the fucker is going to be talking So Goddamn Much in it#roomba writes

One of my favorite characters ever was a one-off character in For the Queen. Everyone else was like the childhood best friend or the competing socialite or the proud knight. And I played the high priest and alms-collector. I'm her loyal advisor who advises her on matters of religion and tax law. She trusts me completely but literally everyone else fucking hates me. Just absolutely despises the Tax Man.
Favorite interaction:
Question on Card: (not exactly but something like 'What do you do to assist the queen that no one else can')
Me: oh I collect the taxes. I'm very diligent and as high priest it's my job to make sure everyone is paying taxes and that the taxation is fair and not favoring any social class too strongly, lest it breed revolution. I have a keen mind for math and for people.
@aleshakills : ...Ariya i fucking hate your guy. I hate him. Why did you choose this? I don't understand you. I hate him.

His piercing blue eyes twinkled with excitement as he unfolded an ancient map, worn and torn at the edges. A treasure hunt, hidden for centuries, was about to unfold, and Shank was determined to solve its secrets.
