Sergei Prokofiev
Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) was a Russian composer (born in Ukraine) who was at the forefront of the Modernist music movement. His symphonies, orchestral suites, and ballets display endless variety and complexity. His most famous works today, perhaps, are the Classical Symphony, the Romeo and Juliet ballet score, and the symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf.

I designed Topher and Sergei in their late 20's! There is not a time-skip in my fanfic yet, but I just couldn't take the idea out of my head.
I hope they look old enough, tho, 'cause I intend to explore their sexualities in the time-skip sequel (please don't break my neck).

Jomo Kenyatta, Sergei Prokofiev and William Shakespeare step out of the time machine into the fabled city of Angkor, Cambodia (9th-15th century CE)
Jomo Kenyatta, the African statesman, was the first to speak. “What a fascinating place!” he exclaimed. “Look at these magnificent temples and the intricate carvings on the walls.” Sergei Prokofiev, the Russian composer, nodded in agreement. “And listen to the music! It’s so different from what I’m used to.” William Shakespeare, the English playwright, had a mischievous glint in his eye. “I…

Prokofiev: Piano Concerto no. 1 in D-flat major, op. 10 Prokofiev was not only a great composer, but a well-know piano prodigy since an early age. He wrote his first piano concerto while still studying at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Composed in 1911, and premiered in 1912 in Moscow, it is an essential piece of the modern piano repertoire. Despite its short length (it takes around 15 minutes to perform), it is full of humour and virtuoso runs, and it switches between 11 different tempo markings. He dedicated the work to the ’’dreadful Tcherepnin’’, who taught conducting at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory from 1905 to 1917.
The piece starts in D-flat major, which is usally associated with emotional and dreamlike music-well, Prokofiev has an interesting take on it. The first theme could be an opening theme of a Tchaikowsy concerto, but it does not last too long, and the next themes, full of sarcasm and playfulness, start to dominate. We can hear a slow section in the middle of the concerto which reminds me the way Franz Liszt composed his single movement piano concertos, welding together the three movements of the traditional concerto from.
In 1914, Prokofiev applied for the Anton Rubinstein Prize for pianists, and he won first prize with performing his own concerto. The head of the jury was Alexander Glazunow.
I chose a recording form 2005, with Martha Argerich being the soloist and Alexandre Rabinovitch conducting. I think that Argerich’s impeccable technique and fiery expressiveness fits the spirit of the young Prokofiev very well.

“Just then, Grandfather came out. He was angry, because Peter had gone into the meadow. It’s a dangerous place; if a wolf should come out of the forest, then what would you do? But, Peter paid no attention to his grandfather’s words. Boys like Peter aren't afraid of wolves.” —Sergei Prokofiev, Peter and The Wolf (1936) #peterandthewolf #meadow #sunset #plettitsafeeling #childrensstory #storytime #thecrags #brackenburn #gardenroute #southafrica #TravelChatSA #orchestra #arrangement #instrumental #classical #SergeiProkofiev (at Brackenburn Private Nature Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTsZkugiXj/?igshid=qr5h8s2d1803

Prokofiev: Piano concerto no. 2 in g minor op. 16 Prokofiev’s second piano concerto, despite its first version being written just one year after the first concerto, a feels like the opposite of it. This concerto lasts more than 30 minutes, and, besides being technically demanding for the soloist, it explores the darker side of human emotions. The composer wrote this piece in the memory of his friend, Maximilian Schmidthoff, who committed suicide.
The first version was written in 1912, and the first performance happened in 1913. As the consequence of the Russian Revolution, the manuscript was destroyed by fire, and Prokofiev reconstructed it in 1923, experimenting with different types of polyphony. The reconstructed version was premiered in 1924, Paris, with Serge Koussevitzky.
It has four movements, with recurring themes and motives creating the synthesis between them.
I. Andantino-Allegretto II. Scherzo: Vivace III. Intermezzo: Allegro moderato IV. Finale-Allegro tempestoso
The recording I chose for this concerto is one I hold very close to my heart. Pianist Evgeny Kissin and Vladimir Ashkenazy, who is both a pianist and a conductor, but here he conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra, make a great team and let the listener drown into the emotional depths of the piece.
