Day in Fandom History: June 12…

Hoping to make ends meet and feeling guilty about Eda losing her powers, Luz sets sail in search of a lucrative bounty to benefit everyone as Lilith struggles to fit herself right in at the Owl House. The first episode of Season 2, “Separate Tides” premiered on this day, 3 Years Ago.

Here to set aside the biggest and most common misconception in the fandom: witches can actually swim.

Most people think that, since the sea is boiling enough to be a fatal threat, witches just can’t swim. This is canonically incorrect. In Understanding Willow, we learn that Willow and Amity took swimming lessons together as kids. And on top of that, the fact that Willow was participating suggests the practice isn’t just for higher-echelon families, and the fact that Willow and Amity were taking lessons together suggests classes are in multitude and large, otherwise Amity wouldn’t have been permitted to learn with Willow.

Take note of something Hunter said in his debut; “’round these parts, the steam alone is enough to leave third-degree burns”. Round these parts. My theory is that particular place, being an island, is more prone to boiling rainstorms than other places, such as alcoves or lakes. Therefore, the sea boils there. I reckon freshwater and secluded sections of sea are cool enough to swim in. Or maybe they have pools in the Boiling Isles, but the scene with young Willow and Amity escaping their swimming teacher takes place at "Lake Lacuna” as Amity puts it, so there are canonically safe bodies of water in the BI.

So, we have a Zuko-esque character in the Golden Guard. At least, those are the vibes I'm getting. I'm not sure if he has prince vibes tho. It kind of feels like it, a little bit, but also not? If you know what I mean?

Lily and Hooty being friends. I actually want to see more of this. It's weird and just kind of fits. I want to see them fighting side by side together at some point in the future.

Luz is going thru some guilt for feeling responsible for Eda and Lily losing their powers. Understandable. This guilt is probably going to follow her around for a few episodes or so.

Or maybe, they'll just pile on more guilt for things that Luz was involved in, and it'll just be this mantle she has to carry around for a whole season. And she'll crack under the pressure of it, like an egg.

Yeah, it's probably going to be that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Separate Tides kicked off by the Emperor's Coven posting a bounty for slaying a Selkidomus?

If so... do you think Hunter was the one to post that bounty? Do you think he would do that, always intending to strong-arming whoever took the bait into "giving" him the kill?

That’s a really interesting idea, and it makes a lot of sense that he’d do something like that. Not only is it likely that someone else would kill the Selkidomus, but it’s highly plausible that Eda would attempt to steal the reward, allowing him to blackmail her into doing it without fear of retaliation.

When Luz said “Maybe it would be better if I never came here. I can’t change the past, but I can still change the future.” And then everything with Belos happened and she couldn’t save anyone, and so to her all she did was change the future for the worse.

When Luz said that it would have been better if she never existed and then when she said that she should stay in the Human Realm. And then her sticking with it even after getting back to the Demon Realm 😭😭
