Now that I’ve been through all of Dressrosa I have questions on the fandom’s view of Senor Pink and his fight with Franky.

People seem to LOVE their fight and rank Senor Pink’s backstory as one of the most heartbreaking, which is unusual for such a relatively minor character.

I can definitely see the tragedy in the backstory and I 100% teared up when he got his wife to smile.

However he was such an icky character in the present day that I had trouble taking his and Franky’s fight seriously. And although I can see how his backstory led him to be who he is now, I also can see how it could lead to him being a lot of different ways - many of those alternatives would not lead him to be someone who surrounds himself with pretty girls and rips their tops off in public to blow his nose on (I know what kind of anime this is but watching anything like that still makes me uncomfortable and automatically makes me dislike their role and skip their scenes).

A lot of his fight with Franky, outside of maybe the final moments where they each agreed to one final all out hit and we got the backstory, was pretty silly? Franky all of a sudden embracing the “hard boiled” machismo in order to fight man to man with Pink.

I can kinda see that fitting Franky’s character in the way that hard-boiled can mean tough and not someone who will leave a fight to others. But he doesn’t normally fit into the “too cool for emotion” aspect. I honestly thought he was doing it as a bit in order to get everyone else to stay out of the fight, but towards the end he seemed quite serious and like he really valued the hard boiled nature of his opponent.

What do yall think? I feel like I’m missing something for why everyone seems to like their fight and Senor Pink’s backstory so much.

Here’s a list of One Piece characters and how I think they interact with children.

Kid: Scares basically every child.

Killer: He’s okay when he isn’t trying to kill them.

Hawkins: Does not understand children and is frankly a little scared of them. He’s the type to hold them by the collar with the tips of his fingers and tell them to do absolutely nothing but breathe.

X Drake: Wants to get along with them but is just too serious and intimidating.

Katakuri: While his appearance scares kids, he actually really likes them and wants to have a few of his own someday.

King: If he found a female Lunarian, he’d probably at least consider reproducing, if only because they’d be some of the few left. As it is, kids are scared of him and he just doesn’t care.

Señor Pink: While he’s a “dislikes all kids except his own” guy, he’s pretty good with him when he has to be.

Gladius: Hates children. The feeling is very mutual.

Law: Is stiff, awkward and uncomfortable. Usually shoves Bepo at them and lets him handle it.

Koby: Gets along wonderfully with kids, although he can be awkward.

Shirahoshi: Likes kids, but lets them walk all over her. Once she develops more confidence, she’ll be great.

I didn't think One Piece could get more out there. I didn't think much of it when a weird villain showed up dressed like a baby. I thought it was some weird kink of his. But then after he and Franky suplex each other for 35 minutes, neither attempting to dodge the attacks in their "man fight", you learn he used to dress like a proper mafia mobster and then he and his wife lost his baby son and she got put into a vegetative state after running away from him, and he dresses like their own baby because it's the only thing that will make her smile anymore. This show is fucking insane.
