🇮🇱SRI LANKA TRAVEL WARNING, POLICE DRAMA - Real time from Israel
ISRAEL REALTIME - Connecting to Israel in Realtime
( VIDEO - The remains of Kfar Kila, a southern Lebanese near-border Hezbollah village that also acted as a major launch site. )
✡️Tonight is SIMCHAT TORAH starts tonight, where we celebrate with the Torah! Chag Samayach, a joyful holiday!
.. Several rabbis have noted: How can we celebrate when this war started on this holiday last year? When so many fell, so many remain hostages, so many are fighting and so many have given their lives in our defense?
They answer: very much in the name of the fallen, in the name of the hostages, in the name of the Jewish people and those who have sacrificed, WE WILL NOT ALLOW THE ENEMY to destroy our holiday, to destroy our joy and celebration.
AM YISROEL CHAI, the Jewish people live! We will celebrate, we will win, we will honor their sacrifice.
✡️As a Jewish holy-day, we DO NOT POST news from sundown for 26 hours unless there is a LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY.
⚠️ISRAEL NATIONAL SECURITY TRAVEL WARNING.. calls on the Israelis to immediately leave the Arugam Bay area and the coastal area in the south and west of Sri Lanka due to terror threat to Israeli tourists, following a warning about a terrorist squad of the Revolutionary Guards mission in the area.
⚠️ HOME FRONT COMMAND - - if you find rocket or drone debris during holiday outdoor activity, DO NOT TOUCH IT - contact Home Front (dial 104) or the Police (dial 100). The parts may be dangerous or toxic, or be important for security.
♦️LEBANON - TZUR-TYRE.. Civil Defense in Tyre walks the streets of the city and asks citizens through loudspeakers to evacuate immediately. The Civil Defense closed the entrances to the city of Tyre to prevent entry. Heavy IDF attacks.
♦️LEBANON - (enemy reports) Dozens of IDF air force attacks on more than 20 villages and towns in Lebanon.
🔹IRANIAN TERROR PROPAGANDA.. a new mural in the center of Tehran: No (Israeli) hostage will be released.
🔹HOUTHIS CLEAR THEIR PORT? Houthi leader Abdel Malik al Houthi issued an urgent order to the owners of the containers in the port to clear out the Hodediah port, immediately. ???
🔹GERMANY SAYS.. German Foreign Minister: Israel succeeded in weakening Hezbollah to a great extent, and the task now is to reach an effective diplomatic solution.
🔹US INTEL AIRCRAFT.. The US is operating reconnaissance aircraft in the Persian Gulf to monitor the movements of Iranian surface-to-surface missiles.
🔹US SEC STATE GOES TO SAUDI ARABIA.. from Israel. Riyadh: The American Secretary of State in Lincoln met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and talked with them about "the developments in Gaza and Lebanon"
▪️ON ISRAEL APPROVING THE NEW COVID VACCINE.. I received significant STRONG negative feedback about the Israel Min. Of Health approving and bringing into the fall vaxx schedule the new COVID vaccine. It has become ridiculously difficult to determine the facts around COVID vaccines, and I can only advise to consult with a trusted medical professional before taking this vaccine, and there are categories of people who should clearly avoid it such as men under 30.
.. Israel no longer has public COVID testing, COVID (and flu, and both together, and strep - quick test kits are available at pharmacies), so there is no case rate data.
.. The last info I can find on COVID in Israel is 14 cases hospitalized in June, all seniors with other health problems. This is the “from COVID or with COVID” argument, and the article seems to state “with”.

South Korea sees six-fold surge in hospitalised Covid patients in four weeks - Published Aug 9, 2024
The number of patients hospitalised for Covid-19 has grown sharply in South Korea recently amid a virus resurgence in summertime nationwide, health authorities said on Friday.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), the number of people admitted to 220 hospitals nationwide for Covid-19 came to 861 in the first week of August, the highest level since early February, Yonhap news agency reported.
The figure has grown rapidly from 148 in the second week of July to 226 in the third week, and 475 the following week.
The authorities have expected such an uptrend to continue through the end of this month.
The latest wave is sparked by the KP.3 subvariant of the fast-spreading omicron variant, which accounted for 45.5 percent of the total cases as of July.
Of the patients this month, 65.2 per cent were those aged 65 and older, followed by 18.1 per cent aged 50-64.
Despite the surge in the number of patients, more than 90 per cent of them suffer mild symptoms and the country can handle the situation under the current medical system.
However, the government decided to beef up monitoring of senior citizens and other high-risk groups and double up efforts to ensure stable supplies of medicine and test kits.
It will also resume the vaccination campaign in October, where high-risk groups will be administered vaccines for free.
"The risk of respiratory infections rises in summer as indoor places are not fully ventilated and people-to-people contacts can grow during vacation. It is crucial to abide by basic hygiene rules," KDCA chief Jee Young-mee said.
The US is also seeing a rise in Covid infections, driven by strains of the KP.3 variant, as per the latest updates from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Over the past 2 weeks, the percentage of KP.3.1.1 sequences rose from 14.4 per cent to 27.8 per cent, while KP.3 currently makes up 21.1 per cent of sequences, the CDC said.

Lope:Ah, yeah- our recording devices still seem to be picking up noise from all facilities properly, our temporary one included. So, the prisoners are being recorded as they should be. I heard one facility had sprinkler issues? We're lucky that didn't damage any equipment but- Huh, management really should stop sending cottontails to do a hare’s job. Well at least everything’s still good- Oh, they've been up for a minute now haven't they? I'm late and the profiles weren't up in time. Stop the complaining. I did say I'd be testing things on top of running this Milgram. The transcripts of what has transpired will be up later.

Daniel Prisoner 001
Mirelle Prisoner 002
Zareth Prisoner 003
Afra Prisoner 004
005 - Nell Newell
Place of Birth: Winona, Minnesota
Date of Birth: 11/11/2011
Age: 12
Ethnicity: African American/Caucasian
This one’s a bit of a strange case. He’s very relaxed in these circumstances and walks around as if this place were his own house. I haven’t really figured out what gets to them yet. He mentioned something about some time offline doing him some good. A decent cook for someone that age. His mannerisms make him come off like an old man. Maybe he was raised by older people. That sometimes happens, doesn’t it? Might have picked up the mannerisms from them.
Prisoner Color: #757D42
Permanent Record
Nell has perfect grades with 4.0 GPA. However, his attitude is rather perplexing for a child of his age. He complains about leg pain, the school chairs being uncomfortable on his back and the teacher writing too small on the board. His vision and physical health are good. We don’t understand why he’s behaving this way. We thought he was joking at the beginning of the year, but it’s persisted.
We assumed he had grandparents he was imitating but his mother says his grandparents passed away before he was born. It’s not as though it’s a large issue but it certainly isolates him from his peers. It is recommended that communication counseling continue for the rest of his middle school years until we’re able to help him out of this period he seems set in.
Nell: …
Worker: Hm? Are you- Perhaps interested in volunteering?
Nell: Yes. I would like to if that’s okay.
Worker: Oh, that’s perfect I’m sure they’ll love you! I never thought a kid your age would be interested in things like this.
Nell: …
To the Newells,
Nell has been a great help! He seems to be enjoying his time volunteering greatly. Thank you for giving him your permission to volunteer his time after school.
Sincerely,
XXXXX
Ms.Newell: Where have you been all this time.
Nell: Library. I walk over to it after school closes.
Ms.Newell: You know when you answer so quickly and in depth like that it comes off like a practiced response.
Nell: . . .
Ms.Newell: They still haven’t taught you how to speak in natural way at that school… What point is there in me having you go there then?
Nell: Education is important. You said so.
Ms.Newell: Education can only get you so far being a decent communicator is important to. People need workers that seem personable.
Nell: I’ll work on it more.
Ms.Newell: Well if you’re good looking enough when you’re older you’ll just have to stand around and saying nothing. If you can’t be personable the next best thing to be is attractive! It’s not a full dead end so chin up.
Nell: . . . Thanks for the encouraging words.
Ms.Newell: What do we do when we thank someone?
Nell: Smile…
Ms.Newell: . . .
Nell: Thanks.
Ms.Newell: That’s better! That’s my baby boy, great job!

The Benefits Of Beauty And Health Supplements For Children, Seniors And Adults
Many people believe that supplements can only be beneficial to adults and seniors. But the truth is that supplements benefit anyone of all ages, which includes children as well as seniors. The article will explore the beauty and health benefits for all age groups in this post.
Benefits of Children's Education
When children get older, they need specific nutrition. Supplements are an ideal way to ensure they are receiving all the nutrients they require for thriving. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to the brain's development and functioning. In children who don't consume enough omega-3s can suffer from cognitive impairments as well as behavioral issues.
Probiotics can also benefit children's digestion. Probiotics are beneficial for the development of children's immune systems. They can support healthy microbiome balance in the gut and boost overall immunity.
Vitamin D supplements are beneficial for kids living in regions with only a little sun exposure. Vitamin D is crucial for the health of bones and immune system function. Children who aren't getting sufficient vitamin D may be susceptible to developing rickets and other bone-related ailments.
Benefits for adults
Adults' nutrition needs vary as they grow older. Supplements are an effective method to improve overall health and wellness. As an example, omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial to heart health and reducing inflammation. In addition, women who are expecting or are trying to get pregnant are able to benefit from folic acid supplements, which can help reduce the risk of birth defects.
Probiotics may also be helpful to adults' digestion health. Probiotics can be a fantastic method to ensure a healthy microbiome in the gut as we get older. Digestion enzymes also aid in improving the absorption of nutrients, and alleviating symptoms of digestive distress.
Supplements like collagen are beneficial for improving the health of hair, skin, and nails. Collagen helps to maintain the structure of skin, and its elasticity. It can also help with signs of ageing.
The Benefits of Senior Citizens
youtube
As seniors get older, their nutritional requirements alter once more. The use of supplements can aid in maintaining overall wellbeing and overall health throughout your life. Vitamin D and calcium can support bone health, reducing the chance of fractures or any other bone-related issues.
Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids can aid in reducing inflammation and supporting cardiovascular health. CoQ10 can be beneficial for improving heart health, as well as to increase endurance to exercise.
Supplements such as glucosamine or chondroitin may also help in reducing the stiffness of joints and reduce joint pain. These supplements work by supporting the health and function of joint cartilage, which may degrade over time.
Summary
Supplements can benefit individuals at all ages all the way from infants to senior citizens. They may help to fill nutrition gaps, support overall health and wellness as well as reduce the likelihood of certain health conditions. It is also crucial to keep in mind that supplements should be used in conjunction with regular exercise and a healthy diet. It's also important to speak with a physician before you include supplements in your daily routine in particular if you're dealing with any medical issues or prescriptions that may affect the regimen.
When it comes to choosing supplements, you must be thorough and pick top-quality supplements from trusted manufacturers. Search for products that have undergone safety and effectiveness testing and are supported by research. In order to ensure that supplements are as potent as is possible, it's essential to follow the dosage recommendations and to store them properly.
In conclusion, health and beauty supplements can benefit individuals of all ages. No matter if you're a young person, adult, or even a senior, there's supplements that will meet your unique requirements for health and well-being. With the right supplements and a healthy way of life, you'll maximise your chances of optimal health and well-being.

Eye of the Needle
We went for blood tests the other day. This is an annual perk of being a senior. I know you all can't wait to qualify. Things went smooth for my wife but she could hear a slapping noise coming from my room and wondered if I was okay. (calm down. Nothing nasty was happening). The phlebotomist (Yes that is the correct term. You are welcome for the quick educational moment) was vigorously slapping my left arm looking for a vein.
Then she got upset with me. 'Why am I not finding a vein?' 'Did you drink water today?' 'Is there something wrong with you?' all came out of her mouth in rapid succession. (For the record the official answers were 'you're stupid', 'yes' and 'go ask my wife. She has an active list that keeps growing'.
I said none of these, but instead suggested she try my other arm. She gave me that look I get a lot these days but switched arms. There was immediate success. I was about to say something sarcastic but I was smart enough to remember that she was the one wielding a sharp object so I did not. When it was over, she put TWO band-aids on the spot of the injection. I have very hairy arms. Removing one brings tears to my eyes. Having this giant X was like the double cross bones they put on poison. I am pretty sure she did this on purpose.
I have been injected many times over the years for a variety of reasons, none of which were pleasurable. I endure the pain. Like Gloria Gaynor I will survive.
Here is the problem I see with getting a lot of needles, especially in hospitals. This seems to be a job that they push down to the newest staff members. These would be the last people I would pick to jab me. It is like having a guy learning to be a barber cut your hair, although that doesn't cause pain unless you count psychological.
There should be rules around who does this job, at least when it comes to tending to me. Here are my suggestions:
They should have affidavits from at least 24 clients stating they offered a painless service. Let them practice on the younger generation.
Should be a non-smoker. The last thing I want is someone who coughs just as they start putting the needle in.
Should be a non-drinker. Do you really want someone hungover or with the shakes trying this?
If they hurt me I get to slap them, but only as hard as they made my arm hurt.
No senior citizens should be doing this. I need them awake and alert, and have good enough eyes to make sure it is my arm they are trying to stick the needle into.
If I am there for a complete blood/urine test please let me pee first. I have been holding it for a while already and having to wait while they fumble around giving me a needle...let's just say they are taking a chance that in order to get my urine sample I might have to wring out my undies to provide it.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: A little pain is a small price to pay for good health.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
August 17, 2023 (Thursday)
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
Philip Stephens of Financial Times today pointed out how much global politics has changed since 2016. That was the year of Brexit and Trump, when those calling for national sovereignty and iron-bound borders seemed to have the upper hand, and it seemed we were entering a new era in which nations would hunker down and international cooperation was a thing of the past.
But now, just seven years later, international cooperation is evident everywhere. Stephens pointed out that a series of crises have shown that nations cannot work alone. Migrants fleeing the war in Syria in 2015 made it clear that countries must cooperate to manage national borders. Then Covid showed that we must manage health across political boundaries, and then Russia’s invasion of Ukraine proved that European nations—and other countries on other continents—must stand together militarily in their common defense.
That embrace of cooperation is in no small part thanks to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who have focused on bringing together international coalitions.
The new global stance is on display in the U.S. right now as President Biden hosts the first-ever trilateral summit with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan and President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea. This is not an easy meeting—Japan and South Korea have a long history of conflict—but they are working to mend fences* to stand firm against North Korea, including its missile tests, and to present a united front in the face of Chinese power.
Secretary Blinken noted for reporters on Tuesday that the world is currently being tested by geopolitical competition, climate change, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and nuclear aggressions. “Our heightened engagement is part of our broader efforts to revitalize, to strengthen, to knit together our alliances and partnerships—and in this case, to help realize a shared vision of an Indo-Pacific that is free and open, prosperous, secure, resilient, and connected,” he said. “And what we mean by that is a region where countries are free to chart their own path and to find their own partners, where problems are dealt with openly, where rules are reached transparently and applied fairly, and where goods, ideas, and people can flow lawfully and freely.”
Cooperation between Japan and South Korea “helps us promote peace and stability and furthers our commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. It advances our shared values and helps uphold principles of the UN Charter like sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity. It allows us to even more expand opportunity and prosperity.”
Blinken addressed Ukraine’s resistance to the Russian invasion, backed by an international coalition, and reiterated that Ukrainians are upholding “the basic principles—sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence—that are vital to maintaining international peace and security.”
In squeezing Russia, international cooperation has again been vital. The Swiss corporation Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiqes (SITA), which is responsible for booking, flight messaging, baggage tracking, and other airline applications, announced in May that it will leave Russia this autumn. Russian carriers are scrambling.
Blinken also confirmed that the Biden administration last week achieved a deal with Iran over U.S. prisoners. Iran moved four dual citizens from the infamous Evin Prison to house arrest, and the U.S. is working to get them, along with one more who was already under house arrest, home. In exchange, the U.S. will release several Iranian prisoners along with $6 billion of Iranian oil revenue currently held in South Korea.
Several Republicans have opposed that deal. The senior Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, James E. Risch of Idaho, said that the “unfreezing” of funds “incentivizes hostage taking & provides a windfall for regime aggression,” and Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) called the money “ransom” and said it was a “craven act of appeasement.”
But in an op-ed on the national security website Defense One, Ryan Costello, the policy director for the National Iranian American Council, called the deal a win-win. The Iranian money will be released to Qatar, which will release it for purchases of food and medicine, which are not sanctioned. Medicine is desperately needed in Iran, and as Biden said in 2020: “Whatever our profound differences with the Iranian government, we should support the Iranian people.”
In his remarks to reporters on Tuesday, Blinken defended the administration's withdrawal from Afghanistan almost exactly two years ago, saying the decision to withdraw was “incredibly difficult” but correct. “We ended America’s longest war,” he said. “For the first time in 20 years, we don’t have another generation of young Americans going to fight and die in Afghanistan. And in turn, that has enabled us to even more effectively meet the many challenges of our time, from great power competition to the many transnational issues that we’re dealing with that are affecting the lives of our people and people around the world.”
He noted that the U.S. continues to be the leading donor of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, contributing about $1.9 billion since 2021, and that the U.S. continues to work to hold the Taliban accountable for the rights of women and girls.
In Niger, a key U.S. ally in Africa against terrorism, military forces took power from the democratically elected president on July 26, and now the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional union of fifteen countries, has said it will intervene militarily if diplomatic efforts to restore President Mohamed Bazoum to power fail. Army chiefs met today in Ghana to discuss creating a standby force. Nigeria’s chief of defense staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, told the meeting: “The focus of our gathering is not simply to react to events, but to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promote[s] stability."
Blinken said Tuesday that the U.S. strongly supports the efforts of ECOWAS to restore Niger’s constitutional order, but the African Union apparently opposes intervention out of concern that such intervention might trigger a civil war.
Meanwhile, in Sudan, where the Biden administration hoped working with two rival generals would pressure them to restore civilian democracy, the country has been torn apart as those two generals now vie for power. Days ago, the U.S. government warned of corruption and human rights violations in South Sudan, with one of the rival military forces, the Rapid Support Forces, apparently engaging in widespread targeted killing and sexual violence in the western Sudan region of Darfur.
Yesterday, the State Department called for the two factions to stop fighting. “Every day this senseless conflict continues, more innocent civilians are killed, wounded, and left without homes, food, or livelihoods. The parties must end the bloodshed. There is no acceptable military solution to this conflict,” it said.
—
*The expression “mending fences” appears to come from U.S. Senator John Sherman (R-OH), who in 1879 told reporters he had to go home to take care of his farm (including mending his fences) when everyone had a pretty shrewd idea he was trying to repair political relationships to shore up support, hoping for a presidential nomination. (It didn’t work: his chief manager was Representative James A. Garfield (R-OH), who ended up getting the nomination himself.)

US Folks, it’s starting to be tax time again
And as your friendly (retired other than special cases) tax preparer, I’m gonna trash-talk pretty much ALL the big-boxes.
TurboTax: that whole “bring your paperwork, DON’T do your taxes” doesn’t mention that’s NOT a free service. (Also, when I was actively working, I’d generally get about 5 people towards the end of the season who were so jammed up by the self-file version that they were willing to pay my prep fees to get filed on time. I’ve never tried to do the “self-file with a LITTLE help from a pro” version so I can’t speak for whether that’s for-real free.)
H&R Block: they seem to be less awful LATELY, but I’m never forgetting that they literally got to rewrite the Earned Income Tax Credit code to a point that I couldn’t understand after 3 years pro and 2 years as a VITA volunteer. (The “you pass this test you don’t have to do training” that had a whole bunch of questions that had essentially no relevance to the neighborhood I’d have been working in that I flunked with about 3 years pro didn’t make me any more likely to refer folks to them as a company either.)
Got no clue on Liberty Tax as a company, but I can for-sure tell you that the franchise I “worked” for one season was shady and stuck me in a non-compete when they already knew “you know your tax stuff but you’re going to be neurodivergent every day ALLLL day” so I couldn’t even switch back to my prior crew who didn’t really care about the disability stuff and did schedule me.. (If you’re South Texan and want to know which one, ask me.)
I put all my professional time in at Jackson Hewitt, and while some of the folks I worked with were extremely good at their job, I definitely worked with some folks whose mistakes came back to haunt me because I was the one in the office when they needed to get their paperwork straightened out. (Also, last I heard they were settling a “we’re in cahoots with a semi-competitor to keep wages depressed” suit, which I would totally believe because I had one year when management straight-up told me I was wage-frozen at $11/hour. That’s about $4/hour under the living wage, and by April pretty much everybody in the biz qualifies for at least one mental health diagnosis even if they were relatively neurotypical in January, so it’s also a high-stress job even by retail standards imo.)
In my professional opinion, if you’re comfortable doing your own, Tax Act, Tax Slayer, and OLT (through irs.gov Free File) are all relatively straightforward and will allow you to enter a fairly large range of common tax documents (a couple will even let you file your state return for free if you need to.
(If you qualify for VITA or senior citizen-type tax assistance, that’s also a reasonable option, although it’s almost always a pain getting a slot.)
#if anybody has specific questions fake up your ID info#and send me an ask (i accept anon)#i'm a texan so i don't do state/city/locality#i also don't do for-real self-employed (as opposed to the kind where you SHOULD be a W-2 employee)#if you want more detail from a pro source ProPublica did a big set of articles on the tax industry a couple years back

Acupuncture Therapy in Mumbai: A Natural Path to Pain Relief!!
In today’s fast-paced world, where stress, pain, and physical ailments are becoming increasingly common, people are turning to natural therapies for relief. One such ancient practice that has stood the test of time is acupuncture therapy. Originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is renowned for its ability to promote natural healing, restore balance, and provide pain relief without invasive procedures or medications. In the bustling city of Mumbai, acupuncture is gaining popularity as an effective alternative therapy for pain management and overall wellness.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body known as acupoints. These points lie along the body's meridians, which, according to TCM, are pathways through which life energy, or Qi (pronounced "chee"), flows. Blockages or imbalances in the flow of Qi can result in pain or illness. By stimulating these acupoints, acupuncture helps to restore the balance of Qi, promoting natural healing and reducing pain.
In modern medical terms, acupuncture is believed to stimulate the nervous system, release natural painkillers like endorphins, and improve blood circulation. This makes it an effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, particularly chronic pain.
