Look, I get where you're coming from, but I think you've swung too far in the other direction here. NSAIDs and acetaminophen are, in most places as far as I'm aware, the only options available for non-prescription pain medications. They're available without prescription because, if used infrequently and within the recommended dosages, they are relatively safe and low in side effects. HOWEVER. it is very difficult to get a prescription for pain medication, and even if you do, those medications also come with dose limits and side effects. So the bottom line is that many, MANY people are relying on NSAIDs and acetaminophen for the primary management of chronic pain. And in that context, it is absolutely possible to severely hurt yourself. Which I think people absolutely deserve more knowledge and awareness of - even if they find it somewhat alarming.

This is especially true where people are brushed off by doctors to "just use advil" for pain that is quite frankly, too severe and ongoing for advil to safely handle. The dismissive way in which doctors treat NSAIDs gives the impression that they are harmless, and many people are desperate for relief. This leads people to use NSAIDs heavily and without precautions, causing lasting harm to themselves which could have been averted, or at least mitigated, by taking steps towards safer use - like those outlined in the original post. NSAIDs work on several biochemical pathways at once - they reduce inflammation, relax muscles, decrease pain signalling of nerves, and slightly inhibit blood clotting, and they also increase the production of stomach acid and decrease the production of protective mucus lining the stomach. This function is pretty much baked in, there's no way around it. So it's not an issue of "some people's stomachs are sensitive to NSAIDs," it's an issue of "NSAIDs cause some damage directly to the stomach lining every time you take them". It's not very much damage from one dose, and if that's the only dose you take for a while, it'll heal right back up. But if you keep taking them, multiple doses back to back, for days or weeks on end.... the damage starts to add up. Or even if you don't use them that much, but take maybe a dose every day to help with muscle soreness after work... or a couple times a month, for migraines or period cramps.... point is, if the damage to the stomach lining is happening faster than it can heal, you start to get problems - but you probably won't notice anything is wrong until it gets pretty bad.

Being careless until you get a proto-ulcer, or an ulcer, or acid reflux, or a bleeding lesion in the duodenum - is not a great tactic. And I will tell you, pretty much everyone I know who is careful about taking their NSAIDs with food or antacids, has become careful after suffering AT LEAST one of the above. And many people end up, as OP said, unable to take NSAIDs at all, because the chronic damage to the stomach is too easily aggravated. Which is not great! So it's good to get in the habit of safer use, before you find yourself in a situation of heavily using pain meds without realizing they could cause lasting damage! Because the underlying issue is stomach acid causing damage to the stomach lining, you can: - take NSAIDs with food, or after eating, so the food dilutes the stomach acid - take NSAIDs with an antacid, like tums (although avoid aluminum-based antacids with ibuprofen) - take NSAIDs with an H2 blocker, a relatively fast-acting medicine that reduces acid produced by the stomach - take a daily PPI medication, which reduces acid produced by the stomach over the long term

Now, H2 blockers and PPIs are other (non-prescription) medications which have their own potential for side effects and interactions - so do your research if you want to add either of them to your medication regimen. But they can be very helpful, especially for healing up if damage has already been caused. Now all that being said. Acetaminophen is a COMPLETELY different story. And what pushed me to reply to this post was the way you were lumping together information on max dosages, which I think is dangerously misleading, even if the numbers are not technically incorrect. See, the risk with NSAIDs is chronic damage from long-term use, but they are relatively safe drugs in the acute sense. For Ibuprofen in particular - the bottle will tell you not to take more than 400mg at once, but if pressed a doctor will say you can take up to 800mg and it's perfectly safe if you don't make too much of a habit of it, and hypothetically you could even take a much higher dose than that and not die, although you wouldn't have a very good time. So, while it is certainly not recommended to take more than 800mg at once or more than 1600mg a day to avoid long-term consequences.... it happens. Which can perhaps teach a person the wrong lessons about dose safety. The risk with acetaminophen is acute toxicity. If you take too much at once, it causes liver toxicity, and then liver failure, and then death. This process can be stopped, but not reversed, so survival depends strongly on early diagnosis and treatment. You might think that the toxic dose in enough higher than the treatment dose that it'd be difficult to overdose accidentally - but that's not necessarily the case. From a National Institute of Health summary on Acetaminophen toxicity: "Acetaminophen toxicity is the second most common cause of liver transplantation worldwide and the most common cause of liver transplantation in the US. It is responsible for 56,000 emergency department visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and 500 deaths per year in the United States. Fifty percent of these are unintentional overdoses." Sure, relative to the total population, overdoses aren't *that* common - but if 50% are accidental, I think people need to be better informed. The major issue with acetaminophen is that it is present as an active ingredient in many, many multi-drug medications, which people often don't realize. So an overdose can occur if, for example, a parent who has already given their child a Tylenol to get their fever down also gives them a dose of cough syrup - each alone at the recommended dose, but it adds up. (Children are at a greater risk of overdose on anything, because toxic dosage is relative to body size, and kids are small.)

So yes, acetaminophen is a great drug and relatively safe if you know how much you are taking. Always check the active ingredients on any medicine you take, especially if you're taking multiple things at once. And for acetaminophen especially, don't take more than the recommended dose at once, don't take more than the maximum dose per day, and wait at least 4 hours between doses - even if the effect has worn off. Don't push it!

The Thinkpink Guide To a Pretty Pink Soft Life - Setting the tone for 2024

Hello lovelies, we've entered November and have one more month to go before we officially reach 2024! This time last year I sat down and wrote out the goals I now have fully compleated through manifestation, dedication and persistance. I've been asked before how I did it, so here is how.

1. It is important to have the mindset of a believer. More importantly, you must be a believer in you. Belive that you can and will have everything you desire simply because you desire it. You are the univers expanding, creating and experiencing itsefl. Once you believe, as well as trust in your abilities, vision(s) and start honoring yourself - You will become who you want to be (which is who you already are, just not yet)

Once your mindset is shifted, you need to get down to the specifics.

2. The Four Seasons - Work with nature, never against her. One of the reasons why I felt so sucessfull achieving my goals were the way they were divided. I had 3 major and minor goals for the whole year. These goals were centered around what would further me towards the life I wanted, with the seasons in mind divided into 4 phases. I wanted to factor in changing weather, possible shifting mood's, hollidays and much more to avoid any distraction or change of plans due to seaosn.

Examples

A. Major Goal was to graduate Massage School -> Lead to more financial abundance, freedome due to being more in control of my schedule etc. This had a deadline as school had a start and an end. It required dedication for studying, funds, and also for me to find a job afterwards. Took 8 months and three weeks exactly. B. Minor Goal Finish decorating my bedroom, in the home I had manifested -> Led to a safe, comfortable and tranquil enviorment that was costumized to my liking and need. Boosted my mood, as I had a sanctuary. This had no deadline, so it felt like a fun activity where it required funds, patience and selectivness. Took me 11 months to get 85% of what I wanted for my room. It is considered acomplished even though I may add more in the future, C. Summer is a time we want to let loose, have fun and be outside, so my goal of writing everyday felt easy enough untill the sun was calling my name everyday to go enjoy it. So, I implimented writing 30min daily, where any 30min not spend would be allocated to days were I did not have plans within that same week. Once I had to write for 3 hours (which I did) but never again did I skip my 30min. Most of it occured during late evenings as it was when I was already back home, few distractions and so on. - A habit I created was writing on public transport. The 13min back and forth was no longer spend scrolling but instead editing, writing, brainstorming etc.

3. Be selective and prepare for temporary sacrafices. Being real with yourself to choose what you truly want to dedicate the whole year to is crucial for a great year. Sometimes what we want can be stacked/combined. The more selective you are with your goals, and your words, the less things you put on your Goals list and can potentially transfer those to your Phase overview. put on your overall list of achievments. And be prepared to sacrafice time, habits and other pleasures that need to be paused for you to get to where you need to be.

Example; Major Goal 1 -> to become Financial Stable Phase 1 (January through March) -> Start Education / Courses that will alloow higher earning. -> Get a side husstle or main job earning x amount. -> Stay on budget of x amount weekly/monthly

4. Remind yourself of who tf you are Staying on track is easy while the spark is there, but after a few weeks, months, maybe even a season, sometimes that spark can start to seem like a tiny flame in the dark. Remind yourself of who you are becoming through moodboard, playlists, friends you trust who you can openly talk about your moves without fear of evil-eyes. Staying motivated is important as that is your fuel, so do what you need to keep your eyes on the prize. I personally made a pinterest board for each month, made sure to change my background to the focal of the Phase I was in, listen to the same three playlists whenever I got down. Journaling And I had an amazing tight circle of friends I would talk to about my moves.

5. Faileur is not a word you know - Rejection is redirection I do not recognize faileur, instead, I see it as the universes way to tell you you've chosen the wrong brick path and need to go left or right instead. So get up, dust yourself off and get to it. Sometimes life happens, so remind yourself that you can call it, go to bed and try again tomorrow. And I would like to emphesis on the fact that you do not have to start in January. You can rest then and start during the Astrological New Year (Aries season) and move in allignment with the Astral Plain rather then our sociatal concept of time. Just never give up, regroup and redirect.

Lastly, if you find yourself done before the year is over (like myself), spend that time further enjoying the fruits of your labor and give yourself a round of applause. Never forget that all is possible, you are a creator so create your reality even if it takes a little elbowgreese till you get the hang of it!

watching xmen first class. i've seen a lot of objections to the scene where darwin dies.

alex can't control his rings. darwin's power covers himself only, not other people. even if he could merge like he did in the comics, that does not cover a whole group of people. it could also be that his mutation in the movies is external, like luke cage's is external and doesn't save him from anything internal. you don't need the power of nukes if you can breach even the most perfect defenses. shaw literally had nuclear power, but was taken down by someone getting into his head--getting inside where there are no defenses.

i think darwin wanted to save his friends. he swallowed it to save them. that's why he didn't allow the rings out. he probably could have survived, but he can't direct the rings, and neither can anyone else. he pretended to jump ship to shaw in order to save everyone else, to try to take shaw down. he even tried to save angel, who betrayed them.

the point of angel joining shaw's team is that treating people badly turns them against you. this includes infighting and othering each other among your own people. it includes claiming that some people aren't "good enough" to count, whether outsiders or within your own group. like the cia continuing to treat angel as a stripper, who by their rules wasn't ever going to deserve respect--be human enough to count. like alex summers treated beast, before he turned blue enough to "count" as cool. like xavier expected raven to hide. like he would later call logan an animal, even though he doesn't say that to literal beast.

it's selectivism: choosing who counts. the point is everyone does it.

the idea that if darwin was white his death would have been "better" is a rather yikes thing to say on its own, but it also completely misses the point of the character: you should not have to be infinitely adaptable--to change who you are--in order to survive. doing so kills you inside....like darwin was literally killed from the inside. i think the point of him being black was to say that he was exactly what the anti-mutants demanded, but even he never would have been accepted. same for mystique and beast who are explicitly racially coded: they could do anything but still couldn't trust anyone to accept them. it's a blatant commentary on racism and "othering" people.

i've talked to professionals about my speech problems and regularly go mute and everyone i've talked to has referred to them as "non-verbal episodes" ever since i was a kid, as someone who is selectivally mute, this is the term i'm comfortable with!!

I want to make a little note of something for my portrayal of Kafka, especially because I see it butting its head around the corner on multiple platforms for Blade, which means that the refreshed assumptions for Kafka aren't far behind.

Kafka is not maternal. Kafka is not parental. Nothing tells me that she'd fill ANY sort of familial 'guiding' role for Firefly in any familial sense. And if she would, we would likely have seen it manifest in even the slightest of ways around Silver Wolf, but we never did, not even a glimpse. Outside of that, characterizing Kafka as parental or, specifically, maternal in any capacity, to me is a fiercely wrong reading of her character. Kafka's empathy and moments of care seem to, quite honestly, be dabbling in something akin to romanticism (note that with this I'm not proclaiming automatic romantic nature across the board), rather than anything inherently familial. It's very specific, and while her tone is often rather saccharine, even that I think is often massively overplayed. Now while I don't play into the 'she has lessened emotion(s)', I do think she is more selective in what catches her interest, which is dictated by very specific things, and 'emotions' aren't one of them. Firefly coming across as relatively insecure/uncertain, shy or whatever terminology people want to use for her, will not find any empathy in Kafka, and it will not soften her for her in any capacity. And actually during a specific exchange with Blade, something was said that I want to build on (putting this under a read more now, even if it's earlier on in 2.2's content) as something that will/would add to her reactions to Firefly that are inherently important:

Blade: In half a system hour, it will lead us to Kafka, and then comes the downfall of the Jepella Brotherhood. Firefly: Is that also part of the script? Blade: It's in your script, too. Firefly: Sorry, I didn't notice. Blade: Their destiny won't change just because of your selective ignorance.

After speaking rather at length about this with my Blade, I agree that he doesn't exactly sound thoroughly... thrilled during this bit of their exchange in particular. And honestly, one can even quite easily go to the extent of saying that he sounds rather snippy towards her, especially at the words 'selective ignorance' (all in all, those chosen words themselves already aren't exactly kind). And quite honestly, it makes perfect sense that he sounds this way, for going off-script or entertaining the possibility thereof, as a Stellaron Hunter, is a big no-no. This isn't just Elio's vision and they're forced puppets on strings without free hill, no no, the beautiful thing about the Stellaron Hunters is that while they may each have their own personal reasoning for accepting to take orders from Elio: they do so devotedly of their own accord. It is, in all ways, their choice. But the script is the script, and deviating from it may not only endanger the future that is chosen, but it can directly endanger one of the other hunters. So going off-script is worthy of no 'warm fatherly correction' (don't get me started on how Blade isn't parental/paternal at all either, but Lauri said it already), it's actually worthy of being chided over, which is exactly what he's doing. In turn Kafka, who is canonically noted to be Elio's right-hand, would be no kinder whatsoever. She has commented on moments that appear to be off-script at the beginning of the game, and you can hear a very clear semblance of annoyance in her voice, and that was simply something a little unexpected (and if memory serves, SW notes that it isn't an off-script moment), imagine if one of the other hunters actively decided to go off-script, I don't think there would be anyone to chide you over it more, than Kafka herself. This entire exchange, if it had been between Firefly and Kafka herself, would have easily been even snippier, along with an active tone of annoyance.

Kafka isn't parental, Kafka is only very selectively one that can fill a 'guiding' role (specifically the TB, but even that I don't like to classify under that kind of behavior), but she most certainly is not a supportive, 'mother-like', 'awww, you poor thing', and forgiving woman. She isn't cruel, but they have a job to do, alongside others. You don't endanger the mission, and you don't endanger the ones who're part of it with you. This is non-negotiable.
