PRIVATE BLOOD N CANDY, REPORTING BACK FROM MOONS FIRST GAMES IN THE 4.5 UPDATE
If you wish to not see spoilers, don't open this! (tw for mention of drugs)
NOEL IS IN THE HQ YESSSSSSSS
New rooms are AWESOME. During my last run I got the new room type where you have corridors both under and over, and I almost died to turrets there DX
Footnote to that, DO NOT deal with turrets on the upper path
Eyefestation got so much harder???? Almost all of my encounters with her left me severely damaged, and I had camera sensitivity turned all down (but I guess it's useless)
THE FERRYMAN NOW HAS A DESIGN???? THEY'RE HUGE???? YOU ARRIVE A COMPLETELY NEW ROOM WITH A PORTAL???? Reviving has never been this crazy
WE MET A CANDLEBEARER!!! I thought it was an Abstract Art instance at first, glad to see they don't move if you don't have light sources on your person
I lowkey found drugs and started running super fast. This is the closest we'll probably ever be to playing as Blitz
I met her. Hanger. And got the Zero achievement (very scary boss battle ngl)
I died to tripwire twice and now I'm officially a Sebastian Solace opp /j. At least I got to see @sebastiansvertebrae and @roxanneslosteyes ragdoll after they set one tripwire off :D
Oh well, this update is pretty good. Definetely harder, since I never reached Sebastian in any of my runs, but Oh. My. God. I will explore it more later

I bought this in 2019 because I love this Shakespearean story in all its alternate forms HAMLET.
I just never got to watch it because my life was difficult. So it sat on the self in a pile of unmatched movies.

The Butler, New Companion
The streets of London is nippy in gloomy in the late spring weather, busy too as many walk to and for in a hurry of sorts like busy bees in a hive all while the sun shine above them pass the grey skies. All Sebastian could think as he walks in London is how happy he is that it's just a little less smog in the air than back then. A little less dead people sprawled in the streets than back them. A little less pain and suffering than back then. He would hate anything if it was the same for his daughter as it was to his young master.
The butler turned is head and looked to the two women in his life, his dear wife and their dear daughter, walking side by side talking and enjoying the weather. It hasn't been a week since Bella's thirteen birthday party and the parents decide to treat the girl to some shopping as what society and Lizzie says "she's now a young lady". Sebastian, though knowing it was coming, truly dislikes the idea. "Young lady" means grown up. "Young lady" means someone is going to try and court her. "Young lady" means she will be married to someone who give or take in the gamble of life will mistreat her and he wouldn't know until last minute. "Young Lady" doesn't sit right with him.
Lizzie looks to her husband and smiles, her voice low and softly sooth, "Is there something wrong?" The man shakes his head some, knowing well he can't lie with words. The lady smiles and turns to the teen and said, "A new year of age and a new beginning, such fun yes?" Bella simply nodded with a smile before she looks ahead some, her mind zoning out on the world.
The sound of hose hooves colliding softly to the dirt echos the forest softly with the wheels of the nice neat carriage as it rides down the path of a green scenery, in the back of said carriage is little thin Bella dressed in a white ruffled lace shirt with a green pinafore, a brown basket of sorts resting on her lap with a simple cute black ribbon wrapped straw boater sitting alone beside her left knee. However her usual happy or pleased face is missing for the late spring early autumn weather but instead a thin line of thought.
"Is there something troubling you dear?" Asked Sebastian, not once glancing back over his shoulder so he'd crash the carriage from being too distracted, not like it'll happen. Bella looked to her father than down to her boots, a soft sign of not wanting to speak pretty clear. Sebastian thought for a moment before speaking, "Could it be you're nervous of not making friends?" Silence was his answer. "My dear Bedales is a lovely school, giving equal education to both girls and boys and a very wonderful looking place. And you, my dear Belladonna, are easy to make friends." Said he, a smile on his lips. Bella huffs, "The friends I made are people I've seen since childhood and babies, and only one of them will be there." "What about those girls in dance classes? Surely they are your friends." "Only Marge will be there and she isn't what I'd call a friend daddy..."
"Ah... Marge Bell I assume?"
Since the birthday party of Bella's 13th, the butler has been keeping an eye on his wife's new so called "friend" Lenora after hearing from his young master what she said about some guests and Lizzie's words of her entitled attitude. It doesn't surprise him sadly her daughter will be equally that way.
Sebastian smiles in the air. "You are an amazing person Bella. I am more than certain you'll make plenty friends by the end of your first week for being your wonderful self. And before you argue, no I am not just saying that as your father or my kind nature, it is the truth and nothing but." He said, feeling his daughter's smile behind him.
Trees moved to the side in his eyesight to show a beautiful building of Bedales School, a place recently opened by 1893 with luscious scenery and high regards of nobles and "average" people of society. The carriage finishes pulling up until a stop at the road's end right in front of the school's steps, the wind crisp and cool sweeping through the two bodies as if a spirit passed through to try and steal their souls like unawaken corpses. The older of the two pauses when hearing footsteps and seeing a shadow walk until a man, tall and thin, walked into view. He had skin of pale ivory with mighty fine bone features like a sculpture and blue eyes molded into his sockets all snug, black hair kept nice and neat in swiped curls, dressed in a formal dress attire. The mystery man bows. "Hello," speaks his deep gentle voice, "Welcome to Bedales School." Sebastian helped Bella out the carriage after she fixed her hat as he speaks, "I will introduce Lady Belladonna Isabella Cordelia Marie-Angelina Midford, starting from today she will be attending your schooling system." With that, the man nods, "Yes. She will be in my class. I am Schoolmaster Adam Faux-Lavande. It is a pleasure to meet you both."
The classroom had a very interesting scent to it. That was Bella's first thoughts on it. The sound of the classroom was very loud. That was Bella's second thoughts on this school.
Bella's green eyes looked around the classroom to look at the children between the ages of 13 and 15 years of boys and girls chatting with each other the second she entered the school's classroom, only recognizing only two faces among the student bodies, her dear friend Xiu who with such lucks of having a good brain in his mind enters the school a day before her. And of course the second face instantly went to her side the second she sat at the empty desk beside. She was a girl the same age, long dark blond hair done in a half up do and a pompadour hair style dressed in a well sewn dark purple dress, her skin a soft peach pale with large blue green eyes and a smug smirk on her pink colored lips. Marge Bell.
"Hello Bella! It's sooooo good to see you again~!" She said, her voice an annoying pitch of sugary sweet high pitched with a tone very obvious to those not blinded by the jewels and fabrics to be "ugh". The girl's dark eyebrow twitched but she smiles. "Marge, it's so good to see you too! I thought I heard my mother say you were attending this school." Said she, her chest filling with dread of speaking with her. As if Sebastian's mind is her own, she knows well Marge is much like her mother. She cold to everyone who isn't up to her standards, she's rude to them even, she's a vain peacock who begs for attention by flaunting her wealth around freely as if believing the world circles around her.
Everyone quickly seated the second Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende entered the room as he speaks, "I apologize for attending later, I had an important talk. Welcome and welcome back students to Bedales. For the first week I and the other schoolmasters will help educate you and see you grow. Rules you will need to understand, I will not tolerate pickings in this class and the other side of the school is forbidden. That side is for the older kids and they shall not mess with you and you will not mess with them, do I make myself clear?" Everyone nods and class started of the week.
MONDAY
Bella hisses at the prick of her finger as she stares at the needle that did it. Today she is forced to sit with some girls including Marge who was currently bragging the ears off of everyone else in the circle learning how to sew and do needle work. Just outside the window were the boys free to play to their hearts' content which aches her so.
TUESDAY
Bella's hand rose fast in the air. "Yes Miss Midford?" Said the Schoolmaster. Bella stood from her chair with a smile, "I believe the answer is 14." Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende looked at the chalk board of the math problem and smiles. "Correct, as usual Miss Midford."
WEDNESDAY
Bella walked the halls with a sigh. She just got off needlework with a complaint of studying, knowing full well she can't skip forever and not join the boys with the acts of running around in joyous fun. "Dad said school would be fun...but I still only have Xiu as my friend..." She mumbled, now feeling worst as she feels the possible feelings Xiu is feeling now. Xiu, best to describe, isn't like how the boys she met are free and okay to be as wild as a nut animal in a zoo. No no, he's more calm and collected with the personality of what people call "shy", he prefers things such as baking and reading a good book beside his loyal dog Cedric, a corgi he and his mother Mey-Rin saved from the streets one night a year ago.
Suddenly, the sounds of piano keys catches the girl's ear. Like a siren call she walks to a room, poking her head into the room she hasn't yet entered, the instrument room. There seated in the farthest wall by the large windows of the room is a lovely piano and a boy sitting there playing the keys with ease. The boy is pale, strong long face with a sturdy nose to match and from what Bella can see are narrowed yet lovely violet eyes, a mess of thick fluffy dark hair in wisp and curls with the bangs so long they cover slightly the left side of his face, dressed in a soft white dress shirt and brown pants.
Bella stands still as she listens to the boy play, a smile on her lips as she listens to him. She can almost feel his emotions through his fingers on those lovely keys as the sun shines into the room giving him a wonderful glow like a angel in a Norse Celtic folklore. The boy finally noticed her and instantly stood from his spot, causing her to stumble. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to prey." She said as she stepped in carefully and slow. She watched as he brought a hand up and rubbed his neck nervously like a child caught taking a cookie from a jar. "S-Sorry..." He mumbled, luckily loud enough to be asked a repeat, "I usually shouldn't be allowed in here..." The young lady's eyes knit and her head did a tilt. "Why is that?" She asked, more curious of this boy than Alice taking a bite of a cooking while diving in a looking glass chasing a rabbit.
Emerald green and violet hue clash as they meet pass dark lashes curled softly to the skies and to the ground. The boy looked away with a soft 'heh' of his lips before he does a small bow, a gentle wind of his voice as he speaks respectfully, "I'm Noel. Pleasure to meet you." Bella smiles, gripping the skirt of her pinafore softly in a little curtsy in return, "I'm Bella."
THURSDAY
Ah, the time has came at last as the schoolmasters shown the students the music room that they'll also learn instruments and the theory of music and choir but only for the students joining the class sessions of that "There are some rules to be followed in this room; Do not disturb the other students, respect the room as if it was your home, be kind to the instruments you're using." Said Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende as he stands beside the same piano Bella has seen her new friend play yesterday. Said girl looked to Xiu and smiles as his eyes shine at the piano in the room.
"Now then," Said the schoolmaster as he finishes the set up of a music stand and violin, "Those who know how to play this instrument please raise your hand." Bella smiles big and raise her hand fast, looking around to see she rose her hand along side some others including mysterious Mr Noel who stands sheepishly in the back. He seems to have the same class schedule yet no one really talks to him and would be gone on some of Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende's classes. Said schoolmaster smiles and steps aside, "Miss Midford, would you like to play a piece?" Bella, with a humble nod, walks over to the stand and gently takes the violin from the man's hands and got the stands ready as the man got the music sheet ready for her to read and perform.
The girl felt the strings and wood among her fingertips with a soft smile as she gets the bow ready. Ode to Joy, easy enough. With her eyes closed she began to play, listening closely to the strings that flow well to perform the song it keeps secret, her chest feeling light as she plays. Much like her mother teaching her fencing along side her father, she was taught to play music from a young age by her father as well. Oh how he would laugh at the assumption his daughter can play something like Ode to Joy.
After the song ended her arms relaxes and Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende smiles as he turns to the class "Thank you Miss Midford-" But his words were caught when everyone heard the sound of the violin being played again, his head whips around as the cords got fast and stares at Bella playing with fast fingers and beautiful body movement that makes not a secret song but a full speech of wonder. Niccolò Paganini's 24 Caprices.
Everyone stares and listen in awe at her movements, the feeling of what she's performing strong already. Xiu smiles at his friend with beaming eyes and Noel simply smile from the back so wide his cheeks hurts from the amount of the flesh stretching out like fish hooks. However, unknown to all is Marge who stands glaring at the girl playing beautifully with her teeth sunk deep into her bottom lip angrily.
Bella stops playing finally and opens her eyes as the class claps loudly and praise. "Wonderful work Miss Midford!" Said the schoolmaster as Bella did a small bow with a smile, his hands never once stop clapping in applaud.
By the end of Thursday Bella's social bar was high with some new friends in her circle and good impression already made. A perfect first week of school if you ask me.
The girl walks to the school's front to be picked up by the carriage taking her home as it has for a few days now until Monday, her empty food basket in her hands and her straw boating on top of her head. Her feet stop just out the door as she waits patiently for Xiu who will join her on this ride home. She smiles to the sky as takes a deep breath in of the colder air of the season's chance. The door opened and Bella turned to look at who it was, only to feel dread when seeing it was Marge walking out with a sudden smirk. "Ah Bella, had a fun week?" Marge asked as she steps forward into Bella's personal space line which cause the girl with darker hair to step back, in which she nods in response as she mentally plea her father to hurry quick to the school grounds. Marge giggles and looks ahead to the school grounds. "I can tell, you sure did show you were simply very happy being the center of attention all week long, isn't that right?"
Her question caught Bella off guard hard as she stares at her. "I wasn't trying to be the center of-" She started before Marge rose her voice to her, "You're just a girl related to a simple Lady title while my family have high regards in society while society easily mock upon your stuck up nose name. You try so hard to win others over it's so pathetic!" She laughed, causing Bella to flinch and look down, her chest feeling a bit tight and her throat burning. "To use your title and money talents to try and be the star is so sad and so typical for a sad ugly girl like you!"
Bella's body felt cold. Not the cold of the weather cold, just cold. A very strong dense cold like a blanket made of frost burying deeply into his skin and it's throbbing veins like hooks along lines of a fishing dock that burns after sinking in tight and deep. Her chest was tight like bandages and had many small pricks and jabs much like bees and wasps stinging her breast to bits, taking away her air. Never once has she felt this way before...this...strong urge of a feeling...Like a pull to a side of a looking glass to a world of madness... A urge telling her to coil this girl up like a snake and squeeze until the very idea of her life gone within a blinking flutter of her eyes...
"You know, I don't believe she was trying to be the center of attention."
Both the two girls looked to the right to see Noel standing there, looking rather annoyed and peeved at the scene in front of him, in one hand is a cardigan and the other a half empty food basket. "In fact," He continued with a sweet smile plastered on his face "You seem the one to fit those words Miss Bell." Marge sputters in shock, her face fuming red. "How dare-" "You are very vain, so vain you make a damn peacock blush in shame of his own feathers. You flaunt around like a rare item when in reality you're just a very large lit up "Pick me I'm very easy to rob" sign painting all across your form. You speak out of turn and try and be control what others say and do to be around you when you know damn well you have no royalty to make such rules. Queen Victoria will laugh and spit upon your name if she sees you."
Bella smiles at his words as Marge growls and stomps off to the sounds of a carriage. "Thanks.." She said in such a such whispered in which Noel nods, "I really dislike people like her. My parents taught me better to let those kinds of people walk around freely as if nothing will happen for their actions." He answered in return. She looked at his basket and rose a brow, "You didn't eat?" He glanced to her eye view and shrugs, "I did. I usually saved some for my dad." Bella smiles at his answer more before reaching in her basket and presenting him a jar of honey that has been opened but not used much. Noel's eyebrow rose for a second as he look at the jar and her, looking at her lovely green eyes much like her mother's. "I assume this can be nice to share. My father helps some bee hives and gets such good honey in the spring so naturally I will share too." She said, smiling at her last words.
With somewhat nervous hands, Noel reached out and took the jar carefully into his palm, their finger tips slightly brushing against each other.
The two back away in a part upon the door opening again and Xiu walks out, perfect timing to the carriage to take them home arrived with the butler dressed in black guiding it. She turns to Noel and smiles, "See you next time Noel." And with that, both Bella and Xiu walk off the steps to Sebastian and his carriage, leaving the new friend to watch them disappear with a smile before he began to walk away from the building.
"Did you have a good day you two?" Asked Sebastian as he smiles to the two in his carriage. Xiu smiles and chirped, "Yes Mister Sebastian sir!" Bella giggles, "Yes. It was a lovely day to finish a lovely week."
As a carriage of black rides down the dense forest of bushes and trees, passing a small stream of water as it does, butterflies and other bugs float around as it goes pass. Inside said carriage is Noel sitting calmly on soft red cushions looking out the window in peace.
"I see you made new friends Noel."
The boy looked across from him to Schoolmaster Adam Faux-Lavende who seats casually with a soft gentle smile. Noel returns the smile, "Yes I have. I have a strong feeling we'll be great friends until the end papa." The schoolmaster smiles and reaches forward, his hand gently petting and rubbing the thick hair of the boy in front of him. "Very good. I'm so proud."
As he leaned back, a shadow covered the carriage thanks to a thick tree branch, and as it disappears and welcomes the noon sun again Schoolmaster Faux-Lavende's dark hair has now formed in a color of white and his blue eyes has now shifted in a dark purple violet like tone that clash with the lighter tint of his son's. A smile came upon his lips. "Your father will be quiet excited for this honey I believe. What a nice friend you made to gift you such sweet things on your first week of school." He said as he rubs the peeling label on the pretty jar full of sticky yummy honey waiting to be open.
Next Up In the Saga. . .
Three friends search a mystery to prove themselves worthy to work along side the adults in their lives. What secrets do they uncover? Do Bella, Xiu, and Noel know what they're getting into?

If I Had A Gun
Sebastian Sallow x MC (Female named Sophia Kane)
Rating: PG Word count: 4,802 Themes: Friends to lovers, romance, fluff Summary: Sebastian Sallow has been in love with his best friend, Sophia Kane, since their fifth year. Now in their seventh year, Sebastian struggles with his feelings while their future seems uncertain.
In other words, just some silly friends to lovers fluff inspired by "If I Had A Gun" by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, which is my favorite love song. Lyrics are italicized.
Read on AO3 or under the cut.
“Are you going to ask her to dance or not?”
Sebastian Sallow nearly jumped out of his own skin. He turned, having been lost in thought, to see Ominis Gaunt lingering beside him.
“What? Who?” Sebastian asked, feigning stupidity.
The only thing more ignorant than his question was the notion that Ominis, of all people, would be fooled by it.
“Sophia,” Ominis answered patiently. “When are you going to ask her to dance?”
“Why would I do that?”
Ominis let out an audible exhale that Sebastian knew masked a sarcastic reply. He did it all the time, whenever Sebastian’s antics were on his nerves, which was quite often.
The party was in full swing. Small clusters of students had gathered around the Slytherin Common Room, their chatter and laughter echoing off the stone walls. The sofas at the center of the room had been levitated to the side to make space for a small dance floor, where Sophia Kane was currently spinning hand in hand with Imelda Reyes. The two friends were laughing wildly as other students looked on in amusement, the music drifting to the corner where Sebastian and Ominis loitered.
Sebastian was also amused. The sight, the sound, the atmosphere created by Sophia’s laughter was his favorite thing in the world. But lately, even her charming presence hadn’t been enough to overcome the cloud of thoughts consuming him.
It was mid-April, Sophia’s eighteenth birthday to be exact. She and her friends were postponing their N.E.W.T.S. preparations for the joyous occasion in the common room, but Sebastian was focused on the uncertainties of his future… of their future.
Their graduation was fast approaching and, though he’d already been chosen for the Ministry of Magic’s Auror training academy, Sebastian feared what was waiting for him, for them, beyond the castle’s walls.
Ever since his uncle Solomon’s death two years prior, Hogwarts had become Sebastian’s true home. Anne left Feldcroft and admitted herself to the Janus Thickey Ward at St. Mungo’s, despite aggressive protests from Sebastian. He even offered to quit school to take care of her, but she threatened to hex him and turn him in if he didn’t back down. She’d made friends there and was at peace as the Healers kept her comfortable.
Hogwarts was Sebastian’s comfort place. The thought of leaving for an entirely different world and life was as unsettling as it was thrilling. But more distressing was the idea of life without Sophia and Ominis. Those two were Sebastian’s comfort people. Especially Sophia.
Sebastian watched as Sophia released Imelda’s hands and stumbled backward, still laughing as she collapsed into an armchair. Her cheeks were rosy and her pearly teeth gleamed as she grinned.
Her luster made everyone else in the room that much duller to Sebastian. Perhaps that was a rude sentiment, but it was true. But for all the sunshine that seemed to radiate from her silky skin, Sebastian gazed at her in sadness.
If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun, and love would burn this city down for you.
In a typical bout of instinct, Sophia caught his gaze. Sebastian was used to this. Their eyes always seemed to manage to find each other, even in the most crowded spaces. She shot him a tiny smile, then an inquisitive look, questioning why he was hovering in a corner of the room. It wasn’t like him to shy away from attention.
Sebastian merely shrugged at her as he flashed his best smirk, hoping that would satiate her. The last thing he wanted was to spoil her birthday.
Sebastian wasn’t naive enough to believe they’d always remain this close. They were growing up, both 18 now, with their adult lives awaiting them. How could he be certain the girl who had already survived a hundred different lives would always be in his?
If I had the time, I'd stop the world and make you mine, and every day would stay the same with you.
How much more could he ask of her? She’d saved him countless times on all their adventures. She’d prioritized him, even with the fate of Hogwarts — hell, maybe even the fate of wizardkind — on her shoulders. And even after what Sebastian had done, the terrible crime he committed, she stood by him and even helped him smooth things over with Ominis and Anne.
His life and future were in her hands two years ago when she declined to turn him in for Solomon’s murder, yet after all this time, it still felt like his future depended on her.
Of course, for them to have the future that he wanted, Sebastian would have to actually tell her how he felt. He’d rather fight a thousand Ashwinders or navigate a maze of scriptoriums.
It’s not that he thought she’d be cruel. She wasn’t capable of that. He didn’t even think she’d laugh about it, as mischievous as she could be. He knew she’d smile kindly and do her best to let him down gently, because that was the kind of person she was.
The chokehold that kept Sebastian from ever admitting he was in love with his best friend was the possibility that everything would change. He already had the rare, prestigious privilege of being one of her favorite people, her closest confidant. Shouldn’t that be enough?
But it never felt like enough, because the possibility of more had become far too tempting to Sebastian. There were moments — stolen glances, soft smiles and warm embraces — that sent his mind reeling into delusion every single time.
He knew he didn’t deserve her. She was everything that was good about the world — smart, brave and compassionate. He had a checkered past, marred by dark emotion and ignorance.
But he wanted so badly to try to be good enough for her. It’s not like any of the other boys fighting for her attention were worthy of her time, of her love, either. They didn’t even really know her. He and Sophia had seen each other at their worsts. He knew her.
It certainly wasn’t the first time his blind optimism had steered him down a risky path, but optimism had always been the one thing that deterred Sebastian from darkness.
I'll give you back a dream, and show you now what might have been if all the tears you cry would fade away.
Sebastian’s sixth sense triggered and he looked up to find Sophia’s eyes still reaching for his. They bore into him with a “What are you doing and what is the matter with you?” inquisition.
Sebastian decided he’d pouted in the corner long enough. He sauntered toward her, his hands stuffed into his pockets before he hooked an arm around her waist. It was a common greeting between the two, though Sebastian never took it for granted.
“You rang, darling?” he greeted in her ear.
Sophia rolled her eyes at him. “Are you done brooding in the corner?” she demanded.
“Only if you want me to be,” he replied. “Thought you might be into the whole dark and mysterious thing.”
Sophia shoved him away playfully. “I am into it, but not on my birthday when my best friend is supposed to be showering me with love and affection,” she said.
“So then why isn’t Ominis over here?” Sebastian teased.
Sophia shot him a look before puffing her bottom lip out in a pout. “Fine,” she said. “Ominis is a better dancer anyway.”
Sophia skipped across the common room to grab Ominis by the hands. Sebastian snorted as the sight unfolded — Sophia insisting that they dance, dragging poor Ominis as he politely protested to no avail.
It was a much more palatable sight to Sebastian than when Garreth Weasley had danced with Sophia earlier. He wasn’t even supposed to be there, but Sophia had insisted all her friends from all houses attend the party.
Sebastian knew Weasley had held a torch for Sophia since fifth year, but it seemed even the Gryffindor was too cowardice to ask her out as well. Meanwhile, the even dafter Leander Prewett had the nerve to ask her to Hogsmeade a few months back. She agreed, too kind to say no, which sparked a rage in Sebastian that even startled Ominis.
It was no secret Sebastian and Leander weren’t too fond of one another, but the notion that Prewett the Prat thought he was good enough for Sophia ignited Sebastian’s ire in ways that made him dizzy.
Sebastian took his wrath out on poor Leander during Crossed Wands and ended up sending him to the hospital wing with a Depulso spell so forceful it cracked a rib.
Fortunately, one date was all it took, and Sophia told Leander she just wanted to be friends, much to Sebastian’s delight.
“Don’t gloat,” Sophia had scolded Sebastian. “I don’t know why you care anyway.”
Sebastian brushed it off as a mere annoyance. No chance he’d ever admit the truth.
Sebastian watched as Sophia eventually released poor Ominis, though he could tell from the soft smile on Ominis’ lips that his friend was having a good time. It was hard to have a bad experience while in Sophia’s graces, hence why so many of their classmates were happily celebrating her that evening.
“Now will you give me some attention?” Sophia pleaded as she approached Sebastian with outstretched arms. She made a face so pouty, Sebastian couldn’t help but laugh. It was so unlike her typical demeanor, which was a calm and confident composure.
“How could I say no to that?” he chuckled, snaking an arm around her waist again. He yanked her in close, a gesture that would have incited a smack had he been any other boy. He was the only one Sophia allowed to touch her in such a way, a reflection of the trust the pair had built over the past near-three years.
I'll be by your side when they come to say goodbye. And we will live to fight another day.
“You look really lovely tonight,” Sebastian admitted after he twirled Sophia. Her skirt lifted as she spun and she giggled.
“I let the girls do my makeup,” she said. “It’s a bit much, but Samantha insisted. She said I should look like a lady now that I am one.”
“An old lady,” Sebastian teased, drawing a gasp from Sophia. She punched him on the shoulder gently in protest.
“You’re the same age as me,” she noted.
“I’m six months older… older and wiser,” Sebastian retorted.
Sophia snorted in response, choosing to say nothing as she slipped her arms around his neck. Sebastian silently prayed she wouldn’t notice the beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
“So are you going to tell me why you’ve been so moody?” Sophia asked, her eyes searching Sebastian’s for clues.
“No.”
Sophia glared. “Sebastian Sallow. Tell me right now.”
“It’s not important. Not right now. It’s your birthday,” Sebastian tried.
He nearly lost his balance as Sophia gripped him by the bicep and yanked, steering him straight up the steps toward the boys’ dormitories while ignoring Sebastian’s protests until they reached his room.
“In,” she ordered, pointing to the door.
“Yes, mother,” Sebastian mumbled as he nudged the door open, Sophia following close behind.
“Sit,” came her next demand. Sebastian promptly sat on the bed as Sophia loomed over him, staring at him with narrowed eyes and her hands on her hips. Under different circumstances, Sebastian would have found himself extremely turned on.
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
“You’re bossy as a grown-up,” Sebastian said, desperate to make light of the situation.
Sophia glared at him. “And you’re being a prat,” she said. Her expression softened, as it always did when she was being sincere. “Now tell me what’s going on with you.”
Sebastian heaved a sigh. “It’s your birthday, Soph. Do we really need to dampen the mood with my nonsense?”
“It’s my birthday and I’ll do what I want… and you’ll do as I say,” Sophia said sternly. “Besides, if something’s bothering you, it’s also bothering me. That’s how this works. We’re a package deal. Kindred spirits, remember?”
How could Sebastian possibly forget the words he’d said to her when they first met? Of course, he had no idea back then that the new fifth year would eventually become his best friend and the love of his life.
“I’m fine. I’m just feeling a little down is all,” Sebastian mumbled.
Sophia’s gaze softened and she was swift to sit on the bed next to him. He knew she’d do that. He knew she’d forget all about her birthday celebration the moment he said anything was bothering him. That’s the kind of person she was and as much as he loved that about her, he hated to burden her with insecurities that would dim her light.
“Tell me,” Sophia said gently.
Excuse me if I spoke too soon. My eyes have always followed you around the room. ‘Cause you're the only god that I will ever need. I'm holding on. I'm waiting for the moment to find me.
Sebastian clenched his jaw in anguish. If only he’d been better at masking his emotions. If only she couldn’t read him like the oldest book she owned.
“I guess I’m just uneasy about what’s to come after all this,” Sebastian finally admitted. “It’s going to be hard, life outside of this place. All of my comfort is here.”
Sophia nodded in understanding. “I feel the same way,” she said. “This is the only place that’s ever felt like home to me. You and Ominis and all our friends… you’re all my home.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do without you,” Sebastian blurted out. He hadn’t meant to be so forthcoming with his words, but Sophia had a way of stirring up his vulnerabilities.
“What do you mean?” Sophia asked, her tone full of sharp alarm. “Where are you going? Where am I going?”
“We’re going to graduate soon,” Sebastian replied stupidly, blinking in confusion.
“So we’re going to leave Hogwarts and you’re just never going to see me again?”
“I- I mean, I hope not. That’s what has me scared.”
“Sebastian Sallow, you really think you’ll get rid of me that easily?”
“In a perfect world.” Sophia smacked him on the back of the head and Sebastian smirked at her. “Only joking, darling.”
Sophia ignored his attempts at jest. “You really think we’re going to lose touch just because of graduation?” she continued. “Are you going to forget about me?”
“Of course I won’t forget about you,” Sebastian replied. This time, he was the one who sounded alarmed. “Soph, how could I possibly forget you? If we could only choose to remember one person when we walk out of this place for good, I’d choose you.”
“So then why all this talk about missing each other?” Sophia asked. Sebastian froze as he read her eyes. They were full of hurt and confusion he hadn’t expected.
“I’m just afraid we’ll drift apart,” he said quickly, reaching to squeeze Sophia’s hands. His chest tightened with guilt as he realized how upsetting this conversation was for her.
But Sophia narrowed her eyes in determination, a look Sebastian knew all too well. “We won’t,” she said confidently. “Sebastian, I can’t live without you.”
She was gazing at him with such intensity, Sebastian’s stomach flipped.
It’s not that he’d underestimated her. He knew damn well that was the biggest mistake one could make when it came to Sophia Kane. Perhaps he’d merely let his insecurities project onto her in a way that had stripped her of the deeply caring person he loved. Of course, he knew she cared about him. He’d used an Unforgivable Curse on her and she forgave him. He murdered his uncle and she protected him. She helped him repair his strained relationships and reputation, simply because she saw below the surface of a misguided boy who had been desperate to fix things beyond his control.
“I didn’t mean to upset you, Soph,” he said, his thumbs gently rubbing the backs of her soft hands.
“You really think I’m going to let us drift apart?” she asked quietly.
“I don’t know what to think, Soph. I mean, I’ll be in Auror training and you’ll be saving lives at St. Mungo’s and probably saving the world again. You have so much ahead of you. Your future’s full of so much possibility,” Sebastian said.
“And why can’t my future include you?” Sophia demanded, though her voice had become soft, almost meek. Sebastian was taken aback. Frustration bubbled behind Sophia’s eyes, and this time, Sebastian couldn’t quite read her gaze.
“Your future’s always going to include me, as long as you want me there,” Sebastian assured.
“You really think I’d just move on and forget about you? After all we’ve been through?”
“Of course not. But I wouldn’t blame you if you did.”
Both of their hearts seemed to break at the same time — Sophia’s as she realized how Sebastian saw himself, and Sebastian’s as he watched that realization creep into Sophia’s gaze.
Hope I didn't speak too soon. My eyes have always followed you around the room. ‘Cause you're the only god that I will ever need. I'm holding on. I'm waiting for the moment for my heart to be unbroken by the seams.
“Sebastian Sallow, you’re my favorite person on this planet,” Sophia said in a tone that seemed to juxtapose frustration and fondness. “And you know that’s not something I like to readily admit. But you are just as worthy of a brilliant future as anyone else.”
“Except Leander. He deserves misery.”
Sophia groaned at his attempt at humor. “You’re insufferable. Maybe I should ditch you after we graduate.”
Sebastian smirked and twirled a strand of her hair around a finger, another frequent gesture she reserved only for him.
“In all seriousness,” he continued. “I’m sorry for implying that you’re going to ditch me when you become a top-notch Healer and meet a wealthy, handsome man to wed. But you deserve that kind of life and I’m simply not going to allow myself to hold you back from it.”
“And you deserve to be happy. For Anne, for your parents… for yourself,” Sophia said. “You’ve worked hard to make up for your mistakes. You deserve a life you’re proud of with a pretty wife who doesn’t put up with your nonsense. And just know that I’ll always be proud of you.”
“Does this pretty wife know how to make a good treacle tart?”
“Like you’d settle for anything less.” Sophia sighed and sat back, her legs dangling over the edge of the bed. “I know we won’t be living just a corridor away from each other anymore, but I still expect to see you as much as possible.”
Sebastian smirked. “You are so going to regret saying that, you know that, right?”
“Don’t let it go to your head,” Sophia retorted, sitting upright again to gently smack the back of his head.
Sebastian laughed and tossed an arm around her, pulling her close. She rested her head on his shoulder, allowing a familiar silence to settle over them.
“Oh!” Sebastian suddenly realized, rising to his feet to rummage in his trunk. He brandished a package, wrapped messily in brown paper and a twine bow. “I suppose I should give you your birthday gift.”
Sophia snorted. “Did you forget that you can use magic to wrap gifts?” she teased as she eyed the wrinkled, lopsided paper.
“I thought doing it by hand was more special,” Sebastian said indignantly, tossing the package at her while he stood patiently near his trunk.
Sophia grinned at him before she carefully untied the bow and peeled the paper back. Her brow furrowed as she examined the old book in her hands. The maroon cover was blank and the gold lettering on the spine had faded.
“What is it?” she asked, flipping the book open to leaf through its pages.
“Do you remember the first time we snuck into the Restricted Section?” Sebastian asked.
“Of course. Bit hard to forget that.”
“Did I ever tell you how I managed to get out of trouble that night?”
Sophia thought for a moment before she slowly shook her head. “I suppose not,” she mused, still trying to recall. “I mean, I remember watching Madam Scribner scold you, but I didn’t hear what excuse you gave.”
“I nicked that book off one of the shelves before Peeves turned me in,” Sebastian explained. “I told Scribner I was embarrassed to be seen with it during the daytime and that’s why I snuck into the library.”
“It appears to be a book of poems,” Sophia said as she flipped through the worn pages, her eyes swiftly scanning the verses. She let out a laugh before looking up at Sebastian, her eyes glinting. “Love poems.”
Sebastian nodded. “I convinced Scribner that I was smitten with a girl and wanted to impress her, and that’s why I wanted the book. And she actually believed me. Seems she has a soft spot for romantics.”
“Who would’ve thought?” Sophia giggled before her attention returned to the book.
Sophia loved poetry, so much so that Sebastian often joked she was placed in the wrong Hogwarts house. He watched quietly as she turned the pages with care and absorbed the words.
“Oh, I love this one!” she suddenly exclaimed. “It’s called Love and Friendship.” She smiled and cleared her throat before reciting, “Love is like the wild rose-briar; friendship like the holly-tree. The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms, but which will bloom most constantly?”
Sebastian wasn’t much for poetry but he knew that one. He’d spent many late night bouts of insomnia thumbing through that book, its prose leading him to thoughts of Sophia.
“It’s about platonic versus romantic friendship,” he said. “And which one leads to happiness.”
Sophia couldn’t help but raise an amused eyebrow at him. “I’m impressed,” she laughed. “I thought you hated poetry.”
“That doesn’t mean I’m too dense to understand it,” Sebastian pointed out. Sophia shrugged in agreement before snapping the book shut. She peered upward at Sebastian, leaning forward slightly as her lips shifted to a mischievous smirk.
“And what do you think?” she asked. “Which one leads to happiness?”
The room seemed to tilt as Sebastian frantically fumbled for a smart response, his usual self-assuredness vacating his body. Was she implying something? Was she just being silly, caught up in the frivolity of the evening?
“They both lead to happiness,” Sebastian finally said, well aware that he had lost his nerve. “That’s what friendships are — sharing joy with people.”
He scanned Sophia’s eyes for some sort of clue, some inkling of emotion. She appeared to be drinking in his words with curiosity and careful reflection.
“But romantic friendship is special,” Sophia noted, her eyes holding Sebastian’s gaze. “We get dozens of friends throughout our lifetimes but we only get one true love.”
“You believe in true love?”
“I think so.” Sophia shrugged. “I think we can have more than one love in life… but only one of those is the great love of our life.”
“And what do you want from the great love of your life?” Sebastian did his best to speak with curiosity to conceal the panic that was coursing through his veins.
“I want the kind of love where someone’s able to hear me without a spoken word,” Sophia said, still holding his gaze. “And I want the kind of love where the little things mean the most. But most importantly, I want someone who understands the things I’ve experienced and respects how those things have shaped me.”
“You’ve really got it all planned out,” Sebastian said, hoping his voice wouldn’t give him away.
“Hopefully,” Sophia said, her own voice expressing an air of whimsy. “I know how I want it to all play out, but it takes two to make love work.”
She lay back, her legs still hanging over the side of the bed. Sebastian watched as the hem of her skirt inched upward and averted his eyes to her feet, which swayed softly. Not that it mattered — his brain was too occupied by her words.
“And what about you?” Sophia finally asked, propping herself up slightly on her elbows to peer at him. “What does a lucky girl have to do to become your true love?”
Sebastian swallowed. If he broke their gaze, he might give himself away, but if he held it, his eyes might betray him. He had to resort to his best defense mechanism.
“Well, she ought to be a good snogger and she should always tell me how handsome I am,” he declared.
Sophia glared in disgust, provoking a laugh from him. “I’m only joking,” he continued, leaning backward against his desk as he faced her. “I just want someone who brings light to my darkness. Like you said, someone who understands how my past has affected me.”
He wished he had prettier, more intricate words for her. Or, he wished it were easier to lie to her.
Sophia seemed to mull his words over, her eyes never leaving him. Sebastian watched as she gently chewed her bottom lip, a telltale sign that she was struggling with some sort of internal conflict.
“Sometimes it feels like you’re the only one who understands what I’ve been through and why I am the way I am,” she finally said.
It wasn’t that Sebastian wasn’t picking up on what she was suggesting. But the notion that it could be real or that he wasn’t simply misunderstanding her seemed impossible.
“How could anyone else possibly understand what we’ve been through?” Sebastian asked. “I mean, Anne and Ominis know, but they weren’t there for all of it… and only the professors really know everything that happened with Rookwood, or with Ranrok in the repository. I only know what you’ve told me.”
”I told you everything. Because you’re the only one who would really understand. And you’re the only person who needed to know.”
”Why did I need to know?”
”Because you’re the only person whose opinion really matters to me, Seb.”
Sophia’s eyes were pleading with him as she silently willed him to acknowledge her implications. She was terrified of having to say it out loud.
“Your opinion’s all that matters to me too, Soph,” Sebastian said.
Sophia sighed and sat up, extending a hand to him. Sebastian closed the space between them and took it, holding it carefully as he stood over her. The air felt still, the only noise in the room drifting from the party that continued in the common room below.
”If we’re the only ones who really understand each other, why should we bother looking for anyone else?” Sophia finally asked.
Let me fly you to the moon. My eyes have always followed you around the room. ‘Cause you're the only god that I will ever need. I'm holding on. I'm waiting for the moment to find me.
Sebastian wondered if his lungs had disintegrated, given how his breath seemed to have vacated his body. His brain was incapable of computing any words so he simply managed, “I don’t want anyone else.”
Sophia’s eyes widened at the revelation. “Really?”
”Of course, Soph,” Sebastian answered, his mind still reeling. “I don’t even really see anyone else.”
“Really?”
“Will you stop saying really?”
A quiet laugh escaped Sophia’s lips. The hand that held Sebastian’s drew him nearer, pulling him closer. Her gaze was soft, but she seemed to be searching his for more, for some kind of quiet confirmation that everything between them was about to change.
“I don’t want to step into the next stage of my life without you, Sebastian,” she said. “But I also don’t want to start my future as only your friend.”
Sebastian’s breath hitched as she squeezed his hand, the enormity of her confession coming to rest in his head and chest.
All this time, they had shared the same fear; that the other would move forward in life without them, or worse, with someone else; that time would become the silent killer of their closeness, driving them toward separate paths too distant, too late; that one would finally learn to exist without the other.
“I don’t want that either,” Sebastian finally said. His conscience screamed at him to say something clever and romantic, something so stirring that Sophia would remember it forever, but the best he could manage was, “I just want to be with you.”
But in Sophia’s eyes, like everything else about Sebastian Sallow, that was more than enough.
If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun. And love will burn this city down for you.

Mission Light - Lawyer Path Part 1 - Out Now!
Hello, everyone :)
Here’s the long-awaited update for the lawyer path, part one. I’ve had some unexpected events recently—my flatmates had to call an ambulance for me last Sunday, and I’ve been dealing with some issues with my university credits. These things have delayed my progress.
There are still some additional notes and changes I wanted to include, but for now, I’m just going to publish what I have and save further changes for the next update. I just need to get what I have out there.
I’ll also work on answering the remaining messages in my inbox from June (sorry for the delay!). I aim to have the full chapter, including part two and my remaining notes, finished by the end of September or mid-October.
The chapter has undergone numerous rewrites, as did the prologue. I’ve had friends proofread it and make small changes, so while I’ve tried to ensure everything fits together, there might still be some inconsistencies, also because sometimes I write when I am really tired in the middle of the night. Please bear with me and enjoy it as it is.
This is my first time writing my own story, especially one with multiple routes and in English. I’m both excited and nervous to share it, even after the prologue. I faced challenges, particularly with making sure that all the choices and the general text fit together no matter what you pick. I didn’t always succeed, but it’s a work in progress. I plan to rewrite everything once the first draft of the novel is complete.
I hope you enjoy it and understand the story I’m trying to tell. There’s a lot of exposition and dialogue to set things up, but there will be more action in part two.
As with all my writing, this reflects my feelings and experiences. Many of the main character’s emotions and thoughts are inspired by my own—overthinking, daydreaming, delusion (rip).
This update includes:
Updated Prologue
Getting lunch with Marcos/Maria and Hongyu
Dealing with Noel’s tasks and your workday
Meeting your boss, Sebastian
Revelations and confrontations
Flirting
A CG (computer graphic)
Choosing your name and voice tone
A romance tutorial
The main character going through something
Everything is roughly 90,000 words long now, including code.
I initially wanted to include more specialized roles, like different types of lawyers or doctors, but that was too much work for now. I may add it after finishing the first draft. For now, I’ve kept things open so you can decide on specializations yourself.
That’s it for now!
Take care, Cassian

The idea for this chapter was to show the main character’s development from a grey and boring life to suddenly feeling something new. They take a quick solution without fully considering the consequences, becoming obsessed and losing themselves in fiction. This obsession leads to mistakes and dealing with the fallout. The later theme explores the main character feeling like a puppet or side character.

Face It (18+)
Chapter 4
warnings: alcohol
word count: 2.2k
chapter 4
*3 months later*
It’s been three months and I haven’t heard from Noah. I know it’s for the best but I can’t help but wonder if he’s been fucking around while I sit at home wondering if he ever really cared about me.
“Noel, babe, staring at your phone isn’t going to make him text you,” KB tells me.
I sigh and place my phone face down on my counter.
“Why don’t you just text him?”
I look at her and grab the bottle of wine off the top of the refrigerator. “Fuck that. You know I’m not about to text first,” I say taking a sip.
I offer her the bottle and she takes it, pouring a glass for herself.
“Thank you for taking off today to be with me. I needed a girls day,” I smile and give her a hug.
Noah’s POV
“Dude, why don’t you call her?” Nicholas asks me. I haven’t talked to Noel in months now but it almost feels better this way. With our tour ending soon and working on our new album, I’ve barely had time to think but when I get any kind of free time, she’s all I think about.
“And say what?” I scoff. “Hey Noel I know I haven’t talked to you in months but I miss you and just want you to know I’m kind of in love with you?”
Nicholas’ eyes go wide at the last part and he smirks at me.
“Well you do talk about her every time we do anything. Have you heard the lyrics you’ve written lately? Maybe you should get over yourself and tell her how you feel.”
“I second that!” I hear Jolly yell from the back of the tour bus.
“Ughh is everyone against me right now?” I sit down on the couch.
I know they’re right but it would be pointless if I couldn’t actually do anything about it.
“You know what they say man. If you love someone you’ll make it work regardless,” Folio says as if reading my mind.
“Oh my god okay I’ll call her. Can everyone shut up now,” I put my face in my hands. “But after tonight because I need to be a hundred percent at the show.”
Nicholas throws his hands up like he just won a bet.
“I told you he’d do it!” He gives Folio a high five.
The show in California tonight went exactly the way we wanted. High energy crowds are always easy to entertain, especially during Dethrone. I tried to push Noel to the back of my mind so I could give my all but it’s almost like I saw her in every face.
“Easily one of the best shows this tour,” Matt tells us as we walk into the green room, high fiving us each.
I grab a white claw out of the mini fridge and sit back on the couch, watching the guys talk about the show tonight.
“Are you alright?” Matt asks, sitting down next to me.
“Yeah man I’m just exhausted. As much as I love doing all these shows, sometimes I think I need a break. But we can’t slow down now,” I smile at him.
He gives me a look, questioning me. “Since when does Noah Sebastian want to take a break?”
“Since he wants to fix things with Noel but refuses,” Jolly jumps into our conversation.
“I told you I’m going to call her,” I roll my eyes. And I thought I was the one so adamant about getting things done.
Finishing my drink, it’s time for us to get to the hotel we booked for a few days while we have a short break between shows.
I take some time in the shower to think about what I really want to say to Noel. The hot water feels amazing against my tense muscles and I feel like I can stay here for hours.
By the time I get out of the shower, it’s already 11 pm. I don’t even know if Noel is still awake right now.
NOELS POV
“There’s no way you actually told him that!!” I yell, feeling the effects of the wine we’ve been drinking all day.
KB laughs and continues her story about how she found out Brendan, her baby daddy, was cheating on her.
“He really thought he would get the last laugh,” she winks at me.
After a minute of drunk laughter, my phone vibrates next to me. I look to see Noah on my screen. What the fuck?
“Kaleigh he’s calling me. What do I do?” I ask in a panic.
“ANSWER IT BITCH!”
“Oh god okay.”
“Hello?”
“Noel hey. You weren’t asleep were you?”
“No, not at all. I’m with KB. Everything okay?”
KB gives me a look and continues drinking her wine.
“Oh sorry. I can call another ti-“
“No no it’s alright. Shes just about to leave actually.” I shake my head, no at KB, telling her not to actually leave. I need my best friend for this in case it goes like last time.
“Oh okay. I wanted to talk to you. I didn’t like the way we left things the last time we talked. I’ve been thinking a lot about what you said and I want to try.”
My heart stops for a minute as his words register.
“What’s he saying??” Kaleigh mouths to me.
I wave her away as I try to find my words.
“You want to try? Try what Noah?”
“Us.”
My mouth drops open for a second. I definitely wouldn’t have started day drinking if I knew this is how it would go.
“What does that mean? What about you not having time?”
“I can’t stop thinking about you. I’m going to try to make us work along with the band and everything else. I can’t stand another day of wondering ‘what if’”
The lump in my throat doesn’t seem to dissipate, finally hearing the words I wanted to hear all along.
“What changed your mind?”
“You did, Noel.”
Kaleigh still trying to hear everything, has her ear pressed against mine. I stand up and walk to the kitchen to try to get some kind of alone time.
“Where are you right now?”
“California. But in a week we’ll be done with touring. I want to come see you again. I miss you.”
Is this really happening right now?
“I miss you too. Come. I mean I’ll be here and you know where the key is.”
Noah laughs, a sound that I’ve desperately missed.
“Okay. I’ll um call you tomorrow?”
“Yeah that’s great. I’ll talk to you tomorrow Noah.”
After hanging up, KB immediately asks what was said. My cheeks are painfully hot as I take in everything that was just said.
“He said he wants to try us being together I think,” I know I look a hot mess smiling so big but I never thought he would actually come around to it. I know how important the band is to him so I’m a little worried about how this will all go.
KB shrieks and jumps up and down giving me a huge hug.
“I knew he wanted to be with you! I’ve seen the way yall are around each other. I’m happy for you, babe!” She hands me the almost empty bottle of wine and brings her cup up in the air. “A toast. To you and Noahhh.”
I clink my bottle against her glass and say, “Cheers!”
Maybe it’s the alcohol in my system but now that I’ve finally talked to Noah again, I want to call him back and tell him all about how the past few months have been. I want to ask him how tour is going and just hear him talk.
“Okay I am so so happy for you but it is 11:30 and we both work tomorrow. I need to head home and make sure my baby is in the bed,” KB gives me another hug.
“I love you so much! Thank you for spending today with me, Ill see you in the morning,” I tell her as she leaves.
I took a quick shower and did my skin care routine fairly quickly. It’s already 12:42 in the morning so I can still get a decent amount of sleep if I go to sleep soon, but laying in the bed, all I think about is that phone call with Noah. Still feeling the effects of the wine has me excited about the way he sounded so confident in wanting us to be together. That tiny bit of worry in my mind tells me not to get too excited just yet.
I tell myself that this is what I’ve wanted for a long time and silence the worry, eventually falling asleep with Noah heavy on my mind.
“Fuuuuck,” I wake up in a panic for the second time this week, grabbing my phone out from under my pillow. I have to stop drinking the night before work, I think to myself as I jump out of bed to quickly get ready for work at 9:50.
I brush my teeth and throw my hair up in a claw clip, usually taking the time to do something cute with it when i'm not thirty minutes late waking up. No time to do my makeup at home so I grab the essentials and grab a Celsius energy drink from my fridge, leaving right at 10. At least I won’t be late this time.
“Jesus, Noel, rough night?” My manager, John, looks me up and down as I walk in and get straight to opening up the bar.
“Yeah, something like that,” I chug my Celsius hoping to get a little more energy.
Work goes by so slowly, I think about taking a nap in the server room. Monday mornings are always the slowest, especially when its 20 degrees (farenheit) outside. You’re telling me no one wants a vodka cran at 11 am on a Monday? Crazy. That honestly doesn’t sound too bad to me right now.
“One more thing before you leave Noel,” John tells me as I’m about to head out the door to go home. “Me and KB were talking a few days ago about maybe seeing how you feel about being a key holder.”
Oh god I knew this would come eventually. Being a key holder is basically a step down from being a manager, and I’ve seen so many servers and bartenders work their way up and end up absolutely hating it. It’s like as soon as you get a polo shirt, everyone treats you like shit. I think I’ll pass up on that wonderful opportunity.
“Before you give me an answer, I want to explain to you why I think you’d be a good fit,” he goes on about how I’ve been here for a while and how I take work seriously and yadda yadda, the usual spill. “Just take a few days to think on it and let me know.”
“Yeah sure I’ll let you know. Did KB recommend me or something? I mean why talk to her and not another manager?” I question.
“Well we asked her first and she declined us and told me you might be interested,” he smiles.
As if right on cue, my phone starts ringing. Thank you Noah.
“I have to take this. See you tomorrow,” I tell John, walking out of Shiners for the day.
“Thank god you have no idea how you just saved me from a thirty minute conversation with John”
Noah chuckles over the line.
“Well you know me, always right on time.”
“So tell me about touring! How are the guys?”
“So good. This is definitely an unforgettable one for sure. Matt thinks with the new album we could really move up in the charts. The guys are all good.”
He pauses for a second and clears his throat before continuing.
“It was actually the guys that kept pushing me to call you. Folio wasn’t lying when he told you I really don’t shut up about you.”
I don’t think my smile can get any bigger than it is right now.
“Well I’m glad you listened to them. Things have been kind of a mess since you left the way you did. I want to apologize to you about making you leave like that, I just didn’t want to say something I know I would regret.”
“Noel, you have nothing to apologize for. I guess I just needed to open my eyes and realize that I really don’t want to be without you.”
I sigh, unlocking to door to my house and seeing the huge mess me and KB left last night.
“I think we both needed to. I just can’t wait for you to come stay with me again. I found a movie I really think you’d like.”
We talked on the phone for almost two hours before Noah had to get ready for sound check. I got a quick shower and threw on the first oversized shirt I could find, which just so happened to be a shirt Noah left at my house forever ago. Scrolling mindlessly through TikTok, I ended up falling asleep, phone still in hand. Today was a good day.
