Not a coder, but this reminds me of the Calappa Games Seafood Platter Trilogy, a trio of Japanese-made fighting games in three different flavors, within each of which you play as photorealistic, often-giant, superpowered sealife. You have:
NEO AQUARIUM: The King of Crustaceans, an arena shooter / spectacle fighter where a bunch of superpowered crustaceans, including a Snow Crab that can moult its skin mid-battle, a burrowing Frog Crab, a Hermit Crab that can locate and swap different shells for different perks, and…a colony of stationary barnacles that ‘move’ by reproducing more of themselves, and work together by serving as an interlaced network of laser turrets(!), come together to determine who is the most powerful among them.
ACE OF SEAFOOD, a nautical warfare game where most of humanity has gone extinct and sealife has evolved superpowers and human-level intelligence, banding together in laser-spitting armies to attempt to inherit the earth…oh, and there’s living toys that get in on the wars too.
And…
FIGHT CRAB, an unorthodox wrestling / boxing game where powerful, nigh-immortal crustaceans of varying sizes vie for dominance in death matches where the only way to eliminate your opponent is to bludgeon them into submission using a number of ridiculously-elaborate weapons and then flip them onto their back long enough for them to be disqualified.
Overall, the fact that this trilogy has photorealistic-looking animals performing truly outlandish acts in quests for world domination is probably why I find these games so fun.
scenario: youve been tasked with picking the roster of an arthropod fighting game. theres only 10 slots. what 10 species do you pick
Dragon Mantis: a mantis is obligatory in general and this is one of the flashiest.
Bird Eating Spider: the largest tarantula also feels like a given, for a kind of slower tankish fighter with venom, webbing, and urticating hairs. Could also have moves incorporating a goliath spider's pet frogs :)
Cuckoo Wasp: a wasp is a given too but I pick this for being pretty and being able to roll up into an armored little ball.
Darwin's Beetle: mostly because people would just demand one of the armored big-horned beetles and I think this is the coolest looking one. Even slower than the tarantula with few gimmicks but very durable.
House Centipede: they're infamous for looking weird, there should be at least one myriapod and it could be a good "glass cannon" fighter because they're pretty delicate and drop their legs easily. Could actually shed a led to escape any grapple type attacks until it runs out of them.
Ant Queen: slow and vulnerable but moves are performed by the workers. An alternate skin could be a blue butterfly caterpillar.
Biting Midge: some midges actually suck the blood of other arthropods so this would be a super small evasive fighter that isn't very strong but replenishes its own health.
Velvet Worm: the projectile attack specialist.
Vinegaroon: between a projectile one and slower armored heavy hitter
Mole cricket: I feel like this would be fun and unexpected, able to go underground as well as fly and use a sonic attack.

Colleague invited me and some of my other colleagues to her son’s Wedding Dinner at Goodwood Park Hotel (良木园酒店) last Saturday. The heritage hotel in Singapore is situated in a 6-hectare landscaped garden on Scotts Road. It was first built as the club house for the Teutonic Club serving the expatriate German community in Singapore and later converted into a hotel. The Tower Block of the hotel has been gazetted as a national monument of Singapore.
Have a peek at the Dinner Menu and Wedding Favours which is a heart-shaped condiment bowl or a round bottle opener. My trio of drinks from left - orange crush, Chinese tea and red wine, along with condiments of three types of chilli – pickled green chilli, chilli sauce and red chilli in soya sauce. One of my colleagues was already red-faced and half-drunk even before dinner was officially served.
Let’s start off with the Appetizer Platter comprising of five smaller dishes. From the bottom clockwise, we have the golden brown Suckling Pig Slices with crispy skin. Happy to say that the roasted piglet did not disappoint, after all I expect no less from a 5-star hotel.
Up one dish partition is the Chilled Marinated Baby Abalone with Thai Sweet Chilli. While the spicy and sweet abalones were good, the mountain of raw shallots used to prop up the mollusks were too pungent to eat on its own.
I have never seen unagi as part of the cold dish platter but this Teriyaki Eel was a delight to devour. With hint of charred smokiness, this freshwater eel was sweet and soft. Crispy Sesame Seafood Roll was the next dish I tried and it was still warm and shattering crispy with filling of crunchy prawns and other bits of seafood inside.
Sliced Smoked Duck was served with drizzling of diced mango & spicy plum sauce. The tangy and fruity sweet sauce paired well with the savoury smoked duck breast. Overall to say, this is the best appetizer platter I have ever eaten.
