Bradley gets off the ship and misses Jake. (2.1k, explicit, ao3)
The first thing Bradley did when he heard they would be pulling into port in Japan in a few hours was step out on the flight deck to take a huge breath of the fresh air. The sun was warm on his face and Bradley could feel the life coming back to his body. He hadn’t flown since the day before they made a pit stop in Guam and he was feeling antsy. The weather was nasty nearly the whole trip and the seas were rough but it wasn’t anything he wasn’t used to. This wasn’t his first trip across the Pacific. The Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group would only be in the western Pacific for a couple months, but it felt like a lifetime whenever he was away from home.
Now that they were close to civilization again, Bradley turned his cell service back on. Most of his family knew not to text him to blow up his phone once it was back on, but he had a couple messages from both Ice and Mav, just updates on how the new TOPGUN class was going mostly. In addition to those, there were a few from Phoenix and Javy, as well as a whole long string of messages from Jake. He scrolled through those from Ice, Mav, Phoenix, and Javy, but he decided to save Jake’s for his hotel room. Instead he opted to send Jake a selfie with the Tokyo skyline in the background. Immediately, Bradley’s phone buzzed with a message from Jake that simply read FUCK and Bradley smiled to himself. Exactly the reaction he was expecting.
“Yo! Rooster, let’s go!” Fanboy yelled from the door to the living quarters area. Bradley turned on his heel and bid the Tokyo skyline farewell for the moment. They would have to go gather their flight gear and collection of uniforms to be able to stay in their hotel for a few days. Getting to leave the ship and staying in an off base hotel for a few days was one of his favorite perks of being a fighter pilot. He had put his time in as an enlisted kid, staying in barracks on land and in the junior enlisted quarters while on the ship, so he was going to take advantage of all the comfy beds he could.
It was always a thrash to get off the ship, but going from the aircrew quarters to the rental cars was definitely his least favorite part of a deployment. Carrying his bags and his helmet bag along the narrow staircases was a pain in the ass. It would make him think about his first deployment with Jake and how they would arm wrestle the night before they stopped in port for who had to carry personal bags and who had to carry helmet bags. The last time they did it, it ended in a little more than just arm wrestling. Bradley sighed at the memory and couldn’t get to his rental car fast enough.
Bradley, Fanboy, and the other pilots reached their set of cars and tossed keys around until someone finally had enough and got in the driver's seat. Bradley took his place in the backseat of a van among some bags and backpacks while Fanboy, Omaha, and Harvard chatted mindlessly in the front of the vehicle. He pulled out his phone to reply to Jake’s latest text and felt a heat creeping up his cheeks. The time zone difference was going to be a bitch, but if Jake was going to send Bradley messages like that, he could make it work.
Jake was already asleep by the time Bradly finally collapsed in his bed. Now that he was finally laying down, he could feel just how tired his body was from the time spent on the carrier. The first night back on land always made him restless, especially when he never really had to change his sleep schedule. Being on the ship meant he could just go with the flow and be awake or asleep to meet crew rest so they could do take off and landing certifications. Since becoming TOPGUN instructors after their near-death mission, Bradley and Jake didn’t have to go underway as often as when they were with active squadrons, but every once in a while they would have to travel overseas to help out some of the other squadrons not stationed state-side. He enjoyed the work, getting to pass on all his knowledge to so many pilots. He also got to meet a lot of cool people in the Navy, Marines, and even the Air Force, despite them not flying any of the same fighter jets.
Bradley pulled out his laptop to check some emails before deciding to finally scroll through all of Jake’s messages. They were mostly about how much Jake missed him, a few about how annoying some of the current TOPGUN class pilots were being, but a select few were some suggestive messages that let Bradley know he made the right decision in waiting to get to his hotel room to open them.
“I can’t believe I have to get myself off for a whole month while you’re underway.”
“God, I miss your mouth so much. And other things.”
“Fucking myself open on my fingers and pretending it’s you.”
“But it’s nowhere near close to the real thing.”
Bradley kept scrolling through all the messages, telling himself to go to the messages from other people and reply to let them know he was in Tokyo, but he couldn’t get himself to look away from Jake’s texts.
Ever since the two had become serious, more than just quick hookups in the showers after a sortie or drunk makeout sessions in the bar bathroom, they were inseparable. Jake’s lease was up on his apartment, so he had moved in with Bradley and they were going on six months with no issues. They worked together, often teaching the same lessons together, throwing in ample “so-to-speaks” that made the class laugh but made Bradley hot under the collar. Sometimes even just the sound of Jake’s voice over the radios while in the cockpit was enough to get Bradley half hard. Not only was their relationship incredibly physical, Bradley also was at the point where he found himself unable to stop thinking about Jake in the most domestic of ways. Smiling to himself when he saw Jake making eggs in the morning, his heart tightening when he thought about how this was his life now. How much he loved it and how much he loved Jake. They hadn’t said it to each other yet, unspoken understanding being enough for now, but Bradley knew when he got home from this deployment he wouldn’t be able to keep himself from blurting it out.
As he kept scrolling back and forth between all of Jake’s messages, Bradley palmed his half hard erection through his boxers. He glanced at the time on his phone and sighed. If he didn’t shower now it would get to be late and he had to be up early, and he could finish what he’d started while he was in there.
He threw his phone down and rolled himself off the bed, still getting his legs underneath him. Bradley turned the water on and stripped quickly, standing naked in front of the mirror while the water warmed up. He had never thought much about how he looked until Jake. Jake would constantly tell him he was perfect, that he was the hottest person he’d ever seen, and how he couldn’t believe Bradley was his. Bradley would just tell Jake the same, and it was true. Jake was incredibly beautiful and Bradley could never understand how he pulled Jake. As he stared at himself in the mirror, Bradley ran his hands over his chest and stomach, wishing they were Jake’s strong, capable hands. He gave his dick a small tug before finally stepping into the shower.
The water was warm and relaxed his muscles. He let it run over his head and wet his hair but his hands still roamed over his own body. He started something back out on the bed and he wasn’t about to let a pesky thing like washing his hair get in the way of that quite yet. Bradley turned around to let the spray hit his back for a moment while he finally got his hand on his nearly fully hard cock. He let out a soft groan and worked his hand slowly up and down. Because he was facing away from the shower head, his hand was a little dry but he enjoyed the roughness for the moment. It was how Jake would do it, anyway.
Finally, Bradley turned back toward the spray and sped his hand up. He imagined Jake under him on his knees, eyes looking up at him full of hope and the need to please Bradley. Bradley’s other hand wandered back to his chest and started to play with one of his nipples. He let out a long, quiet moan, still with it enough to remember he was in a hotel and probably had neighbors. With the water mixed with precome that was now coating his hand, the slide got easier and he increased his speed.
“Fuck,” he gasped out between quick breaths. Even though it was only in his head, it was like he could feel the heat of Jake’s mouth around him, the slick glide of his tongue along the underside of his cock, right along the vein that ran there. “Oh, God, Jake, please,” Bradey breathed out.
His hand that was not on his cock was grabbing handfuls of his chest, massaging the muscle and digging his nails in. It was easy to imagine Jake reaching up from his spot on the floor while he kept one hand working Bradley’s cock. He had done it more than once before, it was one of Bradley’s favorite things.
Bradley thought about reaching his free hand back around to open himself up, but as his hand worked, his breaths continued to get quicker and the rest of his body caught up with the fatigue of the trip overseas. He felt himself tipping closer to the edge and started to feel fuzzy around the edges.
Quiet, quick breaths turned to soft, gasping moans of pleasure and Bradley worked his hand quickly over his cock, stripping it like it was his last lifeline. Bradley’s thoughts were of Jake as he painted the floor of the shower. His orgasm hit him hard, two weeks on the ship when all he could think about was his incredibly hot boyfriend but not being able to do anything about it was torture.
Once his bearings returned to him, Bradley finished up his shower by washing his body and splashing water on his face. His breathing had slowed back to a normal tempo and his hands stopped their wandering around his body, finally letting his cock come to rest heavily between his legs, still softening. It didn’t take him long to finish his shower but he didn’t want to leave the warmth of the shower.
After reluctantly shutting off the water, Bradley stepped out into the steamy bathroom and wrapped a towel around himself. He gave a quick thought to the fact that Jake would be waking up soon and the messages he could send when they were awake at the same time. His dick twitched slightly but he elected to ignore it for the time being. The scratch of the towel on his skin made for a welcome distraction from how horny he still was and he finished getting ready for bed.
Bradley was settled in bed, the TV glowing and giving him some soft background noise. It was turned to some late night Japanese sports analysis show, but he wasn’t paying attention. He finally decided to scroll through the rest of his messages from Ice and Mav. There wasn’t anything super important for him to respond to right away, but he shot off a text to the both of them to let him know they made it to Tokyo. It was nearing six in the morning at home, so the replies of “Thanks for letting us know” came through quickly. After texting Nat to let her know the same, Bradley finally opened up his messages with Jake again. He concocted a message to let him know just how his shower had gone, and he waited eagerly for Jake to wake up while he scrolled mindlessly through social media.
About 45 minutes later, Bradley’s phone buzzed where it sat on the bed next to him and he smiled when he saw the message was from Jake. Instead of texting him back, he hit the call button and put the phone to his ear.
“Good morning, baby,” Bradley said when Jake answered the phone in a sleepy voice. “How did you sleep?”
“Mmm, it was fine,” Jake replied. “But by the sounds of your voice, and the texts you sent me, my morning is about to get a lot better.”

Jerid's Sortie Order (1987)
Tumblr media
"Hey, Zaku, surely it doesn't take you two and a half years to read a book." It does when you set it aside for several months to watch a ton of hella mid isekai anime, start the first G-Saviour novel and go even slower because of all the hella mid isekai anime, and then forget about both for several more months because you're too lazy to do language practice after work. But I did it eventually!
As with Char's Return, this is a single-player RPG with choose-your-own-adventure branching and turn-based combat. This time, you're Jerid Messa in the final days of his Titans training. When guerrillas take over a Federation base and threaten to use their own experimental technology against them, Bask Om gives Jerid 24 hours to save the day. Summary under the cut.
Setting
January, UC 0087. Buckland Base in Alaska hosts several experimental technologies away from prying eyes. Research into artificial Newtypes has begun. It also has a perimeter defense system powered by Kerberos, a satellite power station in geostationary orbit above the base. Using "Wave Catchers," microwaves received from Kerberos are converted into electricity that can power high-output beam weaponry, which could enhance the defenses of bases without large nuclear reactors. Kerberos itself could also be used as an orbital weapon...
In the Bering Sea to the west, Jerid Messa, Emma Sheen, and Kacricon Cacooler are five months into their special training program to become Titans officers. They are aboard the Graf Zeppelin, a massive attack carrier initially developed by Zeon but captured and completed by the Federation. The program is nicknamed "Top Gundam," a portmanteau constructed from the old US Navy's flight academy and the ace machine of the One Year War.
Characters
Jerid Messa: You assume the role of 23-year-old Jerid Messa at the end of his training. As the protagonist, Jerid doesn't come across as abrasive or comically evil as his anime counterpart.
Emma Sheen: A fellow student at Top Gundam. Described as a woman of Eastern descent with graceful features and the air of an honors student.
Kacricon Cacooler: A fellow student at Top Gundam. A rough, veteran-looking guy who Jerid has known for longer than Emma.
Bask Om: A high-ranking officer within the Titans who arrives at the Graf Zeppelin with a dangerous, time-sensitive, mission.
Alaska Native old man: Helps Jerid after a guerrilla encounter in a village. He has little intel but leaves an impact on Jerid by explaining his reasons for living traditionally.
Alaska Native young girl: The old man's granddaughter, who helps rally Jerid's fighting spirit and gives him another reason to complete the mission.
Ex-Zeon soldier: Crash-landed in the region during the One Year War, was healed by the Alaska Natives who found him, and decided to live in their village after growing tired of the war.
Enemy commander: A middle-aged man described as having sharp eyes despite an otherwise scrawny, hollow appearance.
Tom Cruising: Senior Crewman with the local guard. He shows up at the end to congratulate Jerid on his success and remind you that this is supposed to be loosely based on Top Gun.
Mechanics
MS-06MH Marine Hizack: One of three MS that Jerid can select for the mission; it confers an advantage in underwater combat but cannot use beam weapons. Its model number suggests that, despite the name, it's more likely to be the MS-06M/MSM-01 Zaku Marine Type that appeared in Zeta.
MS-09 Dom Blizzard Type: Presumably equivalent to the MSV-R Dom Cold Climate Type. It also appears in the game text as the MS-09F2.
MS-14A Gelgoog
MS-17B Galbaldy Alpha
MS-87D Nashorn: "Zeon's Phantom MS" that saw limited deployment during the One Year War, armed with a hyper rifle.
MSM-10 Zock
MAN-07 Grabro
RMV-05 Guntank Hover: Presumably derived from the RMV-1 as a hovering vehicle, although its in-book art depicts a machine with an upper body that's closer to the original Guntank but with a mono-eye head.
RGC-80 GM Cannon
RGM-79R Gundam Copy Type: Shares the same model number as retrofitted GMs that led to the development of the RMS-179; in the game, though, it's a clone of the original Gundam with Amuro's combat data.
RMS-179 GM II: One of three mobile suits Jerid can select for the mission; it has more HP than the Marine Hizack and is the only unit that can use a beam rifle.
RMS-106 Hizack: One of three mobile suits Jerid can select for the mission. It's used in the training exercises before the mission starts and has stronger armor than either the Marine Hizack or GM II.
RMS-117 Galbaldy Beta
ORX-003 Domingo: Described as the predecessor of the ORX-005 Gaplant, a transformable mobile suit with exceptionally high speed and aerial combat capabilities.
MAX-09 Dura: A behemoth MS nearly 70 meters tall and weighing 685 tons, it was developed from the Big Zam. The Dura has multiple high-output beam cannons, a deflection shield that weakens beam attacks, and, learning from the Big Zam's defeat, sub-arms with close-combat weapons. It is the final boss. Confusingly listed in the book's MS table as the MAX-09, on the back cover as the MAX-07, and in the game text as the MAX-11.
FF-3 Saberfish
M-4A3 Salamander: A hovertank armed with missiles.
Fa-223 Drache: Described as a combat helicopter, but its in-game artwork looks more like the fusion of a Luggun and a Dopp.
Dodai Kai
Story
Aboard the Graf Zeppelin, Jerid, Emma, and Kacricon go through their last big round of combat training. In a simulator, Jerid pilots a Hizack against up to three opponents: a damaged GM II, another Hizack, and the Gundam with Amuro's combat data. After simulator training is completed, the three participate in mock aerial combat aboard Hizacks riding Dodai Kais. (The number of opponents you defeat during the training phase determines how many skill points you start with.)
As aerial training concludes, you're all summoned by Bask Om. He explains that guerrillas have captured nearby Buckland Base -- and by extension, Kerberos, which is controlled remotely -- and are demanding that the Federation government release Zeon war prisoners. Because of the beam turrets powered by the Kerberos satellite, directly attacking the base is not an option. Neither is destroying the satellite itself. What about the Wave Catchers? Their locations are a closely-guarded secret, so they have to be found first.
If their demands aren't met within 30 hours, the guerrillas will use Kerberos to attack colonies. An organization as proud and just as the Titans could never allow a laser to strike a colony; the very idea is preposterous. Due to Minovsky Particle interference, someone has to locate and destroy the Wave Catchers and then call for reinforcements using laser-line communication from the Buckland Base control tower. The mission is assigned to Jerid, the one with the highest marks among the three trainees.
Once Jerid selects a machine and weapons, he departs the Graf Zeppelin in a high-speed capsule to one of two locations on the Alaskan coast. The mission area is a 6x4 grid and moving to an adjacent cell takes two hours, although this is reduced to one if a high-mobility item is equipped. All objectives must be achieved within 24 hours.
Jerid is free to roam the grid, encountering various enemies (defeating them earns more skill points) and procuring items that will help him later. Several, such as infrared goggles, are for the eventual infiltration of Buckland Base. Others are additional ammo or different weapons for his MS, in addition to repair docks that fully restore the unit's HP but require two hours to use. A few areas are also protected by minefields.
With the exception of two Alaska Native villages, the region is sparsely populated. He is more likely to run into a guerrilla than a civilian, although the latter do have items and information if you are able to converse. A young girl in one village gifts him a protective amulet that fits neatly into the breast pocket of his normal suit, which certainly isn't foreshadowing anything.
After destroying all three Wave Catchers and crossing the minefield outside Buckland Base, Jerid breaks into the facility in search of the communications room. There are infrared sensors along the way that must be avoided and gun-toting troops guard most routes. After reaching the room and sending the laser communication, the enemy commander and his men attack, but Jerid survives a gunshot thanks to the protective amulet. He still blacks out.
When Jerid wakes up, he's in a large dome under the base where the enemy commander has graciously provided him with his MS, repaired and rearmed, for a fight to the death against two artificial Newtypes loaded with Char and Amuro's combat data. Seeing the Gundam, Jerid recalls a family trip to Ireland where he met a girl who showed him a commemorative photobook of the machine. Jerid defeats both and the commander angrily prepares to destroy the dome from the inside, but since Jerid successfully called for help, Emma and Kacricon arrive to prevent the dome from collapsing on him.
Upon exiting the dome, the enemy deploys its final card, the Dura. It immediately bathes the area in fire and threatens to destroy the Graf Zeppelin approaching offshore. Jerid, Emma, and Kacricon all fight together and eventually bring the lumbering hulk down. (Although it's not a game over if either Emma or Kacricon die, this does lead to a bad ending where Jerid dies from extreme fatigue at the end of the mission.) With the Dura's defeat, the Buckland Base staff are rescued, as are civilians from the two villages who were captured after you left. You are reunited with the young girl, who reminds you of the one you met in Ireland years ago.
Jerid, Emma, and Kacricon return victorious to the Graf Zeppelin. Jerid does a victory roll on the deck, causing Bask to spill hot coffee on himself in the control room because, remember, this is Top Gun. At the debriefing, Bask promotes them all to Lieutenant Junior Grade and offers them the chance to become Gundam Mk. II test pilots (Two months later, the AEUG infiltrates Green Oasis and any character growth that Jerid experienced while completing this mission is lost when he encounters an autistic teenager.)
So there you have it!
Most of the story is contained the prologue and epilogue, as there's no canonical path to completing the mission. Only the Wave Catcher cells and the young girl's village are hard requirements, but given where they are relative to each other, you need to find a high-mobility item as early as possible. Same deal with items for base infiltration; you need at least two of the infrared goggles, wire rope, and landmover to reach the comms room before getting caught. There's probably also a fine line you have to walk between avoiding battles and fighting them for skill points, because repairs are expensive time-wise.
Dunno what's next; I certainly have no shortage of books to try!

Long-Lost US Submarine From World War II Found off Japan
The long-lost wreckage of a U.S. Navy submarine credited with sinking nearly a dozen enemy ships during World War II before vanishing in late 1944 has been found off the coast of northern Japan, Navy officials announced Thursday.
The USS Albacore’s wreckage was confirmed by the Naval History and Heritage Command’s Underwater Archaeology Branch after it was located recently off the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s main islands, the Navy said in a news release. The NHHC used information and imagery provided by Tamaki Ura, a University of Tokyo professor who has specialized in developing autonomous underwater vehicles to confirm the identity of the submarine. The Albacore disappeared while patrolling in the Pacific Ocean and had at least 85 sailors aboard.
“As the final resting place for [U.S.] sailors who gave their life in defense of our nation, we sincerely thank and congratulate Dr. Ura and his team for their efforts in locating the wreck of Albacore,” Samuel Cox, the director of the NHHC, said in a statement. “It is through their hard work and continued collaboration that we could confirm Albacore’s identity after being lost at sea for over 70 years.”
The Albacore was last heard from by the U.S. military on Oct. 28, 1944, when it stopped at Midway for fuel en route for its 11th combat patrol in the waters off northern Japan, according to Naval records. The Gato-class submarine was believed sunk in a Nov. 7, 1944, underwater explosion reported in Japanese military records, likely the result of hitting an underwater mine. The location of the ship’s wreckage appeared to confirm those details, according to the Navy.
Before the sub’s sinking, the Albacore had proved a capable warship. The vessel was built by the Electric Boat Company and commissioned into the Navy on June 1, 1942. The Navy credited the submarine with sinking at least 10 enemy ships during its brief tenure — earning the Albacore nine battle stars for meritorious participation in battle and four Presidential Unit Citations for extraordinary heroism in combat. The Navy said the Albacore might have been responsible for sinking three additional ships during the war, but those have not been confirmed.
Among the sub’s known sinkings were Japanese destroyers, freighters and the 31,000-ton Japanese aircraft carrier Taiho, then the newest and largest carrier in the Japanese fleet. Taiho sunk hours after being struck by a torpedo fired by the Albacore during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, according to the Navy. The Albacore’s crew did not know at the time that they had sunk the flagship after diving deep to escape incoming aerial attacks. Months later, the Albacore’s top officer at that time, Lt. Cmdr. James Blanchard, was awarded the Navy Cross, the service’s second-highest honor for combat heroics, for his role in sinking the Taiho.
The Navy said Ura used unmanned underwater craft to locate the Albacore based on Japanese records documenting the Nov. 7, 1944, explosion off Hokkaido.
“Strong currents, marine growth and poor visibility on site made it challenging to fully document the wreck or obtain comprehensive images,” the Navy statement said. “However, several key features of a late 1944 Gato-class submarine were identified in the video.”
Those features included the presence of a SJ Radar dish and mast, a row of vent holes along the top of the superstructure and the absence of steel plates along the ship’s upper edge consistent with the Albacore’s construction at the time that the submarine was last seen, according to the Navy.
The Albacore’s wreckage now falls under the NHHC’s jurisdiction and is protected from intrusion by U.S. law, the Navy said.
“The wreck represents the final resting place of sailors that gave their life in defense of the nation and should be respected by all parties as a war grave,” the Navy statement reads.

Dear Hvaldimir,
I know this is not your real name: It’s simply the name that kind Norwegians gave you when you first turned up off the northernmost coast of Norway just over four years ago. (Hval is Norwegian for whale.)
Now, you’ve been spotted off the coast of southwestern Sweden. Since you can’t identify yourself, we can’t be certain, but beluga whales comfortable with humans are an absolute rarity in that region. Your arrival there highlights the extraordinary work of military animals. You and your fellow animal warriors are, in fact, indispensable.
Hvaldimir, your many fans still remember how, one day in April 2019, you simply turned up, presenting yourself to Norwegian fishers in the Norwegian Sea. You seemed to be looking for human company, and as soon as the fishers took a closer look, they discovered your harness. “Equipment of St. Petersburg,” it read in English, and it had a mount for a GoPro underwater camera. Had you traveled from Russia? The Russian city of Murmansk is very close to where you made contact with the Norwegians. Marine experts—real and self-appointed—suggested you’d been trained by the Russian armed forces.
Andreas Fahlman, the research director at Sweden’s Kolmarden Zoo, told Swedish National Television that the visiting whale may in fact be you, and that mammals in the employ of the Russian Armed Forces are trained to, for example, “guard a naval base or certain vessels. But it’s also about finding different objects underneath the water’s surface.”
Russia, like the United States and other countries, has a long history of using animals in its military operations. Indeed, animals employed by armed forces everywhere work hard. The Romans infamously thought the Alps would keep them safe from intruders, but they hadn’t reckoned the possibility of Hannibal enlisting elephants. With the aid of nearly 40 elephants and more than 30,000 troops, the Carthaginian general and his men succeeded in crossing the mountain range and advancing on Rome.
Horses, of course, have been central to battles for as long as war has existed. Though they’re still used for mostly ceremonial purposes (such as the fine displays of British military horsemanship during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of King Charles III), most mounted regiments have been turned into mechanized regiments, where soldiers travel in vehicles such as armored personnel carriers. But such is the military’s affection for its most crucial animal colleagues that originally mounted regiments (known as cavalry, from caballus, the Latin word for horse) that they’ve kept their names.
Dogs—“four-legged fighters”—have been similarly central to war efforts, and no technology to date can do what they can. “You’ll find U.S. military working dogs serving wherever American troops do,” the U.S. Defense Department’s four-legged fighter webpage explains. During World War I, for example, dogs joined some 6 million horses and mules and tens of thousands of horses and camels in the war effort. Pigeons carried messages better than the technology of the day was able to, and cats caught the rats proliferating in the trenches. Canaries and mice warned of toxic fumes. Today, animal fighters’ training is every bit as rigorous as that of human soldiers, because they have to be equally good.
“Since they took on the risky tasks of initial entry or first reconnaissance of sensitive places, they were really highly respected team members,” Belgian ex-soldier Bram Couwberghs, who served with German shepherds and Belgian Malinois in Afghanistan and Lebanon (and at home on counterterrorism operations), told me. “And they’re really an excellent search asset for weapons caches, hidden IEDs, luggage at airports, containers in ports, and goods hidden in places like ships and trucks.” So central was the military dog Cairo’s effort in the killing of Osama bin Laden that his handler, a Navy Seal named Will Chesney, went on to write a book about him.
Marine mammals such as you, Hvaldimir, are intelligent and made for life underwater, which makes you as indispensable to naval operations as dogs, horses, and their fellow terrestrial animals are to army operations. Your entry into military service, though, is more recent. For nearly six and a half decades, the U.S. Navy has trained sea lions and bottlenose dolphins to explore the undersea environment, search for targets of interest to the military, and “engage” those targets, which might mean marking the location of a mine, attaching grabber devices to underwater objects so they can be removed, or patrolling ships against undersea saboteur divers. No robot has this skill set either.
The Soviet Union launched a similar program in the late 1970s, nearly two decades after the U.S. Navy did. “Within the next year, the Soviets could train marine mammals to be used in military operational systems such as diver assistance and equipment recovery in the Black Sea. The next steps, possible within 2 years, might be training of the animals for more sophisticated tasks such as placement of packages on ships, as well as for use in areas outside the Black Sea,” the CIA wrote in a top-secret 1976 memo, which has since been declassified.
“Recent evidence indicates that a Soviet capability to train the animals for use in the open-ocean [sic], at least in limited military and intelligence-gathering roles, may now be available,” the memo added. It had been a rocky road for the Soviets, who were so short on marine mammal expertise that they enlisted the services of some of their country’s outstanding circus artists, who wereused to performing with seals. In the end, the Soviet Navy did manage to (forgive the pun) get an undersea mammal program off the ground at its Sevastopol base. Around this time, the U.S. Navy had also begun training beluga whales, which can swim deeper and live in colder waters than dolphins or sea lions, and later the Soviets added beluga whales, too.
The rest is well-known: the Soviet Union collapsed, and Ukraine (including Crimea, with its port of Sevastopol) gained independence. Even though the Soviet Navy could keep operating at the port of Sevastopol, the aquarium there was taken over by Ukraine, which repurposed the animals for service among children with disabilities. After Russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014, the Russian Navy relaunched the mammal program. Just before the February 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Navy is reported to have put two dolphin pens at the entrance to Sevastopol. Before that, it had put its dolphins to work at its Syrian base in Tartus. Submarine analyst H. I. Sutton surmises that the intelligent mammals’ role consisted of counter-diver operations. As Sutton discovered shortly after you—Hvaldimir—turned up in Norway, Russia’s Northern Fleet had also established whale pens at its Olenya Bay base, not far from the Russian-Norwegian border.
Yet, despite being essential to military operations, military animals get shockingly little recognition. To be sure, both the U.S. and the Soviet marine mammal programs were classified for a long time, but military dogs and horses are well-known. Yes, military animals have starred in documentaries and films, including Dog (released last year), which features a U.S. Army Ranger, played by Channing Tatum, and Lulu the Belgian Malinois as they travel to the dog’s handler’s funeral. And yes, more than 70 extraordinarily brave dogs, and pigeons (and one cat, but no sea mammals) have been awarded the prestigious PDSA Dickin Medal for Gallantry. This January, Bass—a U.S. Marine Corps four-legged special operations warrior who has served in Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan—became the award’ 75th recipient. The Belgian Malinois was recognized for his bravery in carrying out “350 explosive sweeps and 46 missions to capture high-value targets,” especially his clearance of a mined building while under attack by Taliban fighters.
But apart from a touching memorial to military animals in London’s Hyde Park, the U.S. War Dogs Memorial in New Jersey, and a few small memorial sites around Europe, there’s little permanent tribute to animals’ extraordinary contributions to our defense efforts and the many lives they’ve saved.
The animals, of course, have no way of knowing whether they serve a democratic government that merely needs to defend its territory or a dictator keen on invading its neighbors.
That’s why, Hvaldimir, you’ve done a good deed by unwittingly achieving worldwide celebrity. Thanks to Hvaldimir, a global audience is now aware of the presence of working animals in armed forces, whether on behalf of allies or adversaries.
We’re all hoping you’ll be able to make your way back to the Norwegian Whale Reserve, the fjord turned into your home by generous Norwegian institutions and citizens, but your apparent excursion to Sweden has served as a useful reminder of the hundreds of animals who toil in obscurity in armed forces around the world without getting so much as a news mention.

Chinese Air Force Xian H-6N bomber launching a CH-AS-X-13 anti-ship ballistic missile over the South China Sea
China’s New Aircraft Carrier Killer Is World’s Largest Air-Launched Missile
H I Sutton sheds some light on China's latest aircraft carrier killer: The CH-AS-X-13 air-launched anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM).
H I Sutton 01 Nov 2020
Navies are racing to develop hypersonic missiles which may change the pace of naval warfare. Russia will deploy the Zircon hypersonic missile aboard warships and submarines. The US Navy has started down the path of the common hypersonic glide body (c-HGB) for its destroyers. Meanwhile China’s latest hypersonic weapon is something completely different; it is air launched.
The massive new missile, labelled CH-AS-X-13, is probably the largest air-launched missile in the world.
The missile was first reported by Ankit Panda, the Stanton Senior Fellow at the Nuclear Policy Program, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, in April 2018. More recently candid images have appeared on Chinese social media. These provide a clearer view of the novel weapon.
Analysts believe that it may be intended to target high-value warships, particularly aircraft carriers. This makes it an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM). And it appears to be carrying a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV). This may give it extended range and increase survivability against air defenses.
Tumblr media
The CH-AS-X-13 may be closely related to the ground based DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile. Image analysis suggests that it has different dimensions however, so may use a different rocket motor. The most likely reason for this would be the physical restrictions imposed by carrying it under an H-6 bomber. Additionally it appears to be equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) similar to the one seen on the DF-17 ballistic missile. Clearer images in the future may clarify this.
The DF-21D is believed to have a range in excess of 1,500 km. The CH-AS-X-13 may have a similar range, or possibly further due to the aerial launch and a hypersonic glide vehicle. Either way, being carried by a bomber will massively increase its overall reach. The H-6N version which carries it has aerial refueling to further increase their range. The CH-AS-X-13 is therefore a threat beyond the first island chain and South China Sea. It could potentially hit targets in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, or Indian Ocean.
Even if the missile has this incredible range it will face challenges reaching its full potential. Finding and tracking an aircraft carrier at extreme ranges may be the Achilles’ heel. And a lot may depend on the survivability of the bomber itself, and the number of aircraft available for the mission. Context, of course is everything.
The H-6 bomber is not limited to the CH-AS-X-15 however. It can also carry a range of anti-ship missiles. Foremost among these is the YJ-12 supersonic missile. This is similar to the Russian Kh-31 (AS-17 Krypton) missile, but significantly larger. At least four YJ-12s can be carried, meaning that a squadron of bombers could launch a saturation attack on a Carrier Battle Group. The subsonic KD-63 (also commonly referred to as the YJ-63) can also be carried.
Tumblr media
Having anti-ship ballistic missiles may also be used to message China’s potential adversaries. On August 26 China test fired a DF-21D ASBM into the South China Sea. This was just weeks after the US Navy aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan had been exercising in the area. The CH-AS-X-13 adds another dimension to the threat to carrier battle groups, so its development alone can be seen as sending a clear message of China’s increasing military confidence.

First Flight
Tumblr media
Ok so, if you haven't heard of it before, KSP is this fun little game where you run a space program and try and launch spacecraft to other moons and planets in a scaled-down solar system. Despite being the first game I ever bought, I never really spent a significant amount of time playing it.
I figure it'd be fun to share my experience trying to play it, and talk a bit about rockets. I decided a good starting point for my game would be building a general-purpose, medium-sized launch vehicle for putting cargo and crew into orbit.
Tumblr media
I decided to base it on the Zenit-2. The Zenit is a very interesting launch vehicle with quite a history, which I'd like to explore in a future post. Skipping past that, we get to the last variant: the 3SL. It was operated by a multinational (American, Russian, Norwegian, and Ukrainian) Company. The main body of the spacecraft was manufactured in Ukraine, while the engines and the upper stages came from Russia. Boeing provided the fairing and integrated the pieces. Finally, the Norwegians provided the launch infrastructure, which was by far the most unique part of the rocket. See, the company, named Sea Launch, unsurprisingly provided one of the only sea-based launch services while it was in operation.
Tumblr media
The rocket was launched from a "self-propelled semi-submersible mobile spacecraft launch platform converted from a mobile drilling rig" called LP Odyssey. The whole thing looks like something out of a spy film, and it's honestly hard to believe this was a real thing. Because no one could be on the platform while it launched a rocket, it was paired with a combo rocket carrier/mission control center ship called Sea Launch Commander. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the ship in the beginning that is hijacked (Lemurian Star) is the same ship.
Tumblr media
In the movie, it's launching the satellites that provide the targeting data for the hellicarriers which I think is pretty neat.
Tumblr media
Here's my approximation of the rocket in KSP, during its first ascent. The bottom looks like four rockets but is actually a single large one called the RD-170. It's probably the most interesting part of the rocket as it represents the high water mark of soviet rocket engines.
If you're familiar with KSP, you might not remember there being an RD-170 equivalent, we have one because I'm running a heavily modded version of KSP. (Restock + Near Future + Utility Mods)
Tumblr media
Here's the engine IRL. Pretty neat. The RD-170 has an even more interesting history than the Zenit booster it mounted on (it inherits many design elements from the soviet N1 moon rocket)
Tumblr media
To get into orbit, you need to be traveling horizontally at about 2 kilometers per second. However, if you tried to achieve these speeds near the surface, all of your energy would quickly be lost through drag, so you first must ascend through the atmosphere before your upper stage turns horizontally and circularizes your orbit. If you need some more info I have attached an article from NASA explaining the whole thing in depth.
Tumblr media
The rocket's payload, in this case, a satellite, is often not aerodynamically sound (and even if it was figuring safe flight profiles for each payload would become quite complex) so it's enclosed in an aerodynamic fairing. Popping it off to save weight once the rocket is out of the atmosphere is always the highlight of a launch. Real rocket fairings are typically two halves, to save weight and complexity, but I find having multi-part fairings more fun. If you look at the end of the rocket carefully, you'll notice the engine bells are moving around. This is because during ascent, one of the primary ways that the rocket controls itself is by making adjustments to the direction of its exhaust.
Tumblr media
Here we see that the upper stage trying to circularize its orbit. Unlike the lower-stage engines, which are optimized for pure lifting capacity, the upper-stage has a much larger nozzle to propel the rocket more efficiently. You can see how the lack of atmosphere means that the plume can expand much more easily than in the lower stages where it was squeezed into a narrow jet. (ksp doesn't fully simulate this, but it ends up being right a lot of the time)
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the lowered thrust came back to bite me. Although the rocket had more than enough energy to reach the needed orbital velocity, it simply did not have the necessary thrust to reach those speeds before it began to reenter the atmosphere and burned up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My second attempt used an engine with roughly twice the power output and was a lot more successful. The blue line represents the current trajectory of the rocket, while the orange line represents the rocket after the planned burn. I'd like to say I planned such a perfect circularization burn, but I actually used an external tool to do so.
Tumblr media
Here we can see our rocket doing that injection burn, with the higher thrust engines. On real rockets, these burns can take a pretty significant amount of time
Tumblr media
Here you can see the satellite getting deployed by the upper stage.
Tumblr media
Typically after a satellite is put into orbit, each functional element is slowly deployed, then verified one by one. But since this is KSP, we can have fun with a one-button deployment sequence.
I'm going to take a moment here to say that Tumblr's 10mb limit on gifs is driving me nuts. I can't even use an external host cause the GIFs don't autoplay.
The main advantage of sea launch was you could launch anywhere on earth. This typically was used for an equatorial launch because the equator provides a minor speed boost and makes achieving any inclination easy. For pretty much every sea launch, these strengths were used to put a cable or telecom satellite in a geostationary orbit. This one isn't based on anything in particular, I just slapped it together based on the first satellite I found on google. The main advantage of sea launch was you could launch anywhere on earth. How Does a Logistic Company Handle International Shipping?
In today’s globalised world, international shipping is a crucial component of global trade and commerce. Logistic companies play a key role in facilitating the smooth flow of goods across borders. Understanding how these companies handle international shipping can provide insights into the complexities and efficiency of global logistics operations.
Let’s explore the Logistic Company Melbourne process, key components, challenges associated with international shipping, and how logistic companies manage these aspects to ensure timely and safe delivery of goods.
Explore logistics companies, process, challenges, and ensuring timely deliveries.
Understanding International Shipping
International shipping involves the transportation of goods between countries, which can include various modes of transport such as sea, air, and land. The process is more complex than domestic shipping due to the additional layers of regulations, documentation, and coordination required.
The Role of a Logistics Company
A logistics company specialises in managing the movement of goods from one location to another. When it comes to international shipping, their role extends beyond just transportation. Here’s how they manage the entire process:
Route Planning and Optimisation
Logistic companies start by determining the most efficient route for transporting goods. This involves selecting the best mode of transport—whether it's air, sea, or land-based on factors like cost, delivery time, and type of cargo. They use sophisticated logistics company Melbourne software and algorithms to optimise routes and reduce transit times.
Handling Documentation and Customs
International shipping requires a significant amount of paperwork and compliance with customs regulations. Logistic companies handle all necessary documentation, including:
Bill of Lading: A receipt for goods and a contract between the shipper and carrier.
Commercial Invoice: A detailed list of the goods being shipped, including their value.
Packing List: Information about the contents of each package.
Certificates of Origin: Documents that verify the origin of the goods.
Import/Export Licenses: Permits required for certain types of goods.
They also manage customs clearance, ensuring that all goods comply with the importing and exporting countries' regulations. This involves calculating and paying duties and taxes, and ensuring that all paperwork is accurate and complete.
Tumblr media
Cargo Handling and Security
Cargo handling involves the physical management of goods during transit. Logistic companies are responsible for:
Security: Implementing measures to prevent theft, damage, or loss. This includes using tracking systems and security protocols.
Packaging: Using appropriate packaging to protect goods during transit and comply with international shipping standards.
Loading and Unloading: Ensuring that cargo is properly loaded and secured in containers or transport vehicles.
Tracking and Communication
Modern logistic 3pl Warehousing Melbourne uses advanced tracking systems to provide real-time updates on the location and status of shipments. This transparency helps in managing customer expectations and addressing any issues that may arise during transit.
Effective communication between the logistic company, the shipper, and the recipient is crucial to ensure smooth operations and resolve any potential problems.
Challenges in International Shipping
International shipping comes with its own set of challenges, including:
Regulatory Compliance
Different countries have different regulations regarding imports and exports. Logistic companies must stay updated on these regulations and ensure that shipments comply with all legal requirements. This includes handling any changes in trade policies or customs procedures.
Geopolitical Issues
Political instability, trade wars, and other geopolitical factors can impact shipping routes and logistics. Companies need to be adaptable and have contingency plans to deal with such situations.
Language Barriers and Cultural Differences
Language differences and cultural nuances can affect communication and operations. Logistic 3pl warehousing Melbourne often works with local partners and agents who understand the regional specifics and can help bridge these gaps.
Environmental and Sustainability Concerns
There is increasing pressure on logistic companies to adopt sustainable practices. This includes reducing carbon emissions, optimising routes to minimise fuel consumption, and using eco-friendly packaging materials.
Technological Advancements
The logistics industry is continuously evolving with technological advancements. Some of the technologies enhancing international shipping include:
Blockchain: For secure and transparent transaction records.
IoT: For real-time tracking and monitoring of cargo.
AI and Machine Learning: For optimising routes and predicting demand.
Automation: In warehouses and for cargo handling.
Choosing the Right Logistics Company
When selecting a logistic company for international shipping, consider the following factors:
Experience and Reputation: A company with a proven track record in handling international shipments.
Services Offered: Comprehensive services including customs clearance, warehousing, and tracking.
Technology: Advanced tracking systems and digital solutions.
Customer Support: Responsive and effective communication channels.
Conclusion
International shipping is a complex process that requires meticulous planning and coordination. Logistic companies play a pivotal role in managing the entire shipping process, from route planning and documentation to cargo handling and tracking.

Technology at the Helm - How Digitalization is Reshaping Multimodal Logistics in India
In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, the logistics industry plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless movement of goods across borders. In India, where a multitude of diverse industries coexist, the adoption of technology is revolutionizing the traditional methods of logistics, giving rise to a new era of efficiency and reliability. The integration of digitalization is particularly evident in the realm of multimodal logistics, where multiple transportation modes are seamlessly combined to optimize the supply chain. Let's explore how technology is reshaping multimodal logistics in India and propelling the industry into the future.
Real-Time Tracking and Visibility
One of the most significant advancements in multimodal logistics in India is the implementation of real-time tracking and visibility solutions. Traditional logistics often faced challenges in providing accurate and timely information about the location and status of shipments. However, with the advent of GPS technology, RFID tags, and advanced tracking systems, logistics companies can now offer real-time updates to their clients. This not only enhances the overall transparency of the supply chain but also allows for proactive decision-making and problem-solving in case of any disruptions.
Optimization through Data Analytics
The influx of big data and analytics has enabled logistics companies to analyze vast amounts of information to optimize routes, reduce transit times, and enhance resource utilization. Machine learning algorithms can predict demand patterns, helping logistics providers to plan their operations more efficiently. This optimization not only reduces costs but also minimizes the environmental impact by optimizing fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions.
Automation and Robotics
Automation is another key aspect of the digital transformation in multimodal logistics. Automated warehouses, robotic sorting systems, and autonomous vehicles are becoming integral components of the supply chain. In India, where manual labor has traditionally played a significant role, the integration of automation is enhancing speed, accuracy, and safety in logistics operations. Automated systems also contribute to minimizing human errors and increasing the overall efficiency of the supply chain.
E-Documentation and Paperless Processes
The transition from traditional paperwork to electronic documentation is streamlining logistics operations and reducing bureaucratic hurdles. E-way bills, electronic invoicing, and digital documentation are replacing manual processes, resulting in faster clearance at checkpoints and borders. This not only accelerates the movement of goods but also reduces the chances of errors and delays associated with paper-based processes.
Collaborative Platforms and Integration
Digital platforms are fostering collaboration among different stakeholders in the logistics ecosystem. From manufacturers and suppliers to carriers and end consumers, collaborative platforms enable seamless communication and information exchange. Integration of various transportation modes, such as road, rail, air, and sea, on a single platform facilitates a more holistic and efficient approach to multimodal logistics.

It entails transporting items by sea via cargo containers or bulk carriers. This mode of transportation is appropriate for firms with low-cost and flexible shipping requirements, particularly for international goods when time is not a major factor.
Ocean freight forwarders are crucial to managing the complexity of sea-based shipping. They manage everything from arranging cargo space on ships to overseeing container loading and unloading at ports. These personnel also handle customs documentation, which ensures that shipments follow import/export regulations. Ocean freight forwarders may also provide door-to-door services, which involve managing the full voyage from origin to destination.

Understanding Car Transportation Services
Tumblr media
Definition and Scope
Car transportation service refers to the professional relocation of vehicles from one location to another using specialized equipment and methods. This service is utilized for a variety of reasons, including personal relocations, dealership transfers, auction purchases, and classic car shows. For more information visit Red Rocks Transportation.
Types of Car Transportation
Car transportation services can be broadly categorized into several types based on the method and equipment used:
Open Carrier Transport
Open carrier transport is the most common and cost-effective method. Vehicles are loaded onto an open trailer, similar to those seen transporting multiple cars on highways. While this method is economical, it leaves vehicles exposed to weather elements and road debris.
Enclosed Carrier Transport
Enclosed carrier transport offers enhanced protection by housing vehicles within a covered trailer. This method is preferred for high-value, classic, or luxury cars that require protection from weather and potential damage.
Door-to-Door Service
Door-to-door service involves picking up the vehicle from a specified location and delivering it directly to the destination address. This method provides convenience but may come at a higher cost compared to terminal-to-terminal services.
Terminal-to-Terminal Service
In terminal-to-terminal service, vehicles are dropped off and picked up at designated terminals. This method is often less expensive but may require additional logistics on the part of the customer to get the vehicle to and from the terminals.
International Car Transport
International car transport involves shipping vehicles across countries or continents, utilizing sea, air, or rail transport. This type requires meticulous planning and adherence to international shipping regulations and customs procedures.
Benefits of Car Transportation Services
Convenience
Car transportation services offer unmatched convenience, allowing individuals to relocate their vehicles without the need for long-distance driving. This is particularly beneficial for cross-country moves or when transporting multiple vehicles.
Safety and Security
Professional car transport companies use specialized equipment and trained personnel to handle vehicles, ensuring they are transported safely and securely. Enclosed transport options provide additional protection against theft, vandalism, and weather damage.
Cost Efficiency
While the initial cost of car transport services might seem high, they often prove to be cost-efficient when considering the expenses of fuel, lodging, meals, and potential vehicle wear and tear during a long drive.
Time Savings
Using a car transport service saves significant time, which can be better spent on other aspects of moving or on business activities. This is especially valuable for professionals and busy families.
Environmental Benefits
Car transport services can be more environmentally friendly than individual long-distance driving. By consolidating multiple vehicles into a single transport, the overall carbon footprint is reduced.
Choosing the Right Car Transportation Service
Research and Reviews
Start by researching various car transportation companies. Look for customer reviews and ratings on trusted platforms to gauge the reliability and quality of service provided by each company.
Verify Credentials
Ensure that the car transport company is properly licensed and insured. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) provides licensing information for carriers operating within the United States.
Compare Quotes
Obtain quotes from multiple car transport companies to compare prices and services. Be wary of significantly lower quotes, as they might indicate subpar service or hidden fees.
Check for Specialty Services
If you have specific needs, such as transporting a classic or luxury car, ensure the company offers specialized services. Enclosed transport and white-glove service options are essential for high-value vehicles.
Understand the Contract
Carefully read the contract terms, including insurance coverage, delivery timelines, and cancellation policies. Clarify any doubts with the company before signing.
The Process of Car Transportation
Booking the Service
Once you have selected a car transport company, the first step is to book the service. This involves providing details about the vehicle, pickup, and delivery locations, and preferred dates.
Preparing Your Vehicle
Before transportation, prepare your vehicle by:
Cleaning the car to facilitate a thorough inspection
Removing personal belongings and valuables
Checking for any existing damage and documenting it with photos
Ensuring the fuel tank is about a quarter full
Disabling alarms and securing loose parts
Pickup and Inspection
On the scheduled pickup date, a driver will arrive to inspect the vehicle and document its condition. Both you and the driver should sign a Bill of Lading, which serves as a receipt and a condition report.
Transportation
During transportation, the car is loaded onto the carrier and securely fastened. The transport company may provide tracking options to monitor the progress of your vehicle.
Delivery and Final Inspection
Upon delivery, inspect the vehicle for any potential damage that might have occurred during transit. Compare the current condition with the initial inspection report before signing off on the delivery.
Cost Factors and Pricing
Distance and Route
The primary factor influencing the cost of car transportation is the distance between the pickup and delivery locations. Longer distances generally incur higher costs. Additionally, routes with limited accessibility or challenging terrains may affect pricing.
Vehicle Type and Condition
The type, size, and condition of the vehicle also impact the cost. Larger vehicles, such as SUVs and trucks, typically cost more to transport than sedans. Non-operational vehicles require special handling, increasing the cost.
Transport Type
As previously discussed, open carrier transport is usually less expensive than enclosed carrier transport. Choosing terminal-to-terminal service over door-to-door service can also reduce costs.
Seasonal Demand
Car transportation services experience seasonal fluctuations in demand. Peak moving seasons, such as summer months and holidays, often result in higher prices. Booking during off-peak times can lead to cost savings.
Additional Services
Additional services, such as expedited shipping, guaranteed delivery dates, and white-glove service, contribute to higher costs. It's essential to assess your needs and budget accordingly.
Challenges and Considerations
Weather and Road Conditions
Weather conditions and road closures can affect transportation timelines. Winter weather, in particular, poses challenges for timely delivery. It's important to consider potential delays when planning your vehicle transport.
Regulatory Compliance
For international car transport, compliance with customs regulations and import/export laws is critical. Ensure that the transport company is knowledgeable about these regulations and handles all necessary paperwork.
Insurance Coverage
Verify the insurance coverage provided by the car transport company. Most companies offer limited liability coverage, but you may need additional coverage for high-value vehicles. Check your auto insurance policy to see if it covers vehicle transport.
Communication and Tracking
Effective communication with the transport company is vital. Ensure that the company provides regular updates and has a reliable tracking system in place. Knowing the status of your vehicle can alleviate anxiety during the transportation process.
The Future of Car Transportation Services
Technological Advancements
The car transportation industry is continually evolving with technological advancements. GPS tracking, automated scheduling, and digital documentation are improving efficiency and transparency. The future may see the integration of autonomous vehicles in the transportation process.
Sustainability Initiatives
As environmental concerns grow, the car transport industry is exploring sustainable practices. Electric transport trucks and carbon offset programs are becoming more prevalent. Customers are increasingly seeking eco-friendly options for vehicle transportation.
Customer-Centric Approaches
The focus on customer satisfaction is driving innovation in the industry. Enhanced communication tools, personalized services, and improved damage prevention measures are becoming standard. Companies that prioritize customer needs are likely to lead the market.
Conclusion
Car transportation services play a crucial role in today's interconnected world, offering convenience, safety, and efficiency for moving vehicles. By understanding the various types of services, benefits, and considerations, you can make informed decisions to ensure a smooth and stress-free transportation experience. As the industry evolves with technological and sustainable advancements, the future of car transportation promises even greater improvements in service quality and customer satisfaction.
Whether you're relocating across the country, showcasing a classic car, or purchasing a vehicle from abroad, the right car transport service can make all the difference. Embrace the possibilities and drive forward with confidence, knowing that your vehicle is in good hands.
