Princess
Stardew Valley- Haley x Farmer
Summary: Haley makes a selfish choice and has to deal with the fallout from her frustrated partner. Some angst but all resolved with fluff <3.
Tumblr media
You hadn’t meant to slam the door, being all too aware of it’s squeaky hinges and questionable stability, but there was nothing that could keep your temper down as you searched for your significant other. It wasn’t like you to be angry but your blood was rushing quick through your veins meanwhile there was a vice grip on your heart, panic spreading the longer you had to think about what you had discovered.
“Haley!” You seethed, teeth grinding together as you rounded every corner in the farmhouse. You knew she wasn’t fond of you tracking mud through the house but you couldn’t find it in you to care as you trekked through your bedroom, the cellar, your living room, in any and all attempts to find her. In town you had stopped by the fountain she so often found herself in front of the first couple of years you had lived in Pelican Town. She was still fond of the spot you knew, but less now that the community center was remodeled and foot traffic increased.
Where was she?
Letting out a frustrated scream, you tripped over your own boots as you exited the way you came in, not even bothering to close the door this time. You had other priorities. Heading towards the stable, you found Haley sitting beside the sunflower field you had grown especially for her. She looked at peace, her full lips quirking up at the edges as she mused over something on her hand. You couldn’t quite make it out but it was shimmering, delicate, expensive.
“Haley”, you uttered again, this time the wind was knocked out of you. Seeing her with that gentle smile on her face offset the boiling of your blood but not enough to derail you from the hurt and anxiety you were currently feeling.
Her blue eyes locked onto yours and the second they did, her full lips pointed downward. “Y/N? What’s wro-”
“I couldn’t buy crops today.”
It was the first day of spring in the fourth year of your residence in Pelican Town. The snow had finally left the valley after a cruel winter. The cold had persisted longer than the last year and you were met with several damages to your fences, barn, and sheds because of the warring weather. Repairs had nearly drained your account dry. Haley had held you all winter, warming your numb fingers in her hands after long days of work. She had listened when you spoke of your fears, of not having the funds to get the animals hay or the bus ticket to Calico Desert where you could find some work in the skull caverns. She knew, and you thought that meant everything would be fine.
Bugs beginning to buzz around the tulip pot you had set up on the porch just yesterday afternoon. You had woken up this morning with a game plan, and excitement in your bones. You knew exactly what crops you’d be getting from Pierre and in what way you would organize them. You knew what needed to be tended to in the greenhouse and what you would plant out front with the sprinklers. Everything had been meticulously calculated to give you a strong start to the beginning of the year.
This was the year you were going to breathe, the year you weren’t going to go to the ocean and fish sun up to sun down just so you could sell some sardines to Willy to get through the week. This was supposed to be it.
“Oh! Darling I’m sorry, was Pierre out?”
Your heart gave a painful tug. Even now, she was in her own world, pretty eyes concerned but fingers still toying with whatever she had bought this time. The frustration was gnawing at you and left you feeling restless as you stood and stared at Haley. How was she so unaware of the situation after you’d spent the entire winter physically and emotionally exhausted?
In a fit of desperation you kicked at the ground, nearly slipping when you hit a softer patch, mud spraying out beneath your boot. You were too busy trying to right your balance that you nearly missed the sharp intake of breath from your beloved.
“Y/N! What the hell?” Was her shocked reaction to the mud that now stained her silken pink skirt. You’d seen that expression a thousand times before you two had even thought about dating. Her eyebrows were knit together and her lips pressed together in a thin line.
“I don’t know what’s got you in such a rotten mood! You woke up just fine. Don’t make it my problem because Pierre isn’t working today.”
You wanted to kiss those lips but you also wanted to scream.
“I should be asking you that! What the hell have you been buying? I got to Pierre’s today and he had the pleasure of watching me open our empty wallet! So, Haley, I think I get to ask you: What. The. Hell?”
Despite your desire, your voice wasn’t much more than a whisper. Her flushed cheeks, now from anger and not the sun that had been bathing her and the flowers earlier, drained of all color.
“I- You see.... Empty?”
Your wife struggled for words, eyes blown wide but confusion marring them. And then, guilt. Her hands unfolded, presenting an aquamarine pendant. Haley gulped heavily.
“On my way back from taking some photos, I stopped at the traveling cart. It was so beautiful I couldn’t resist!”
“Please think of someone but yourself for once!”
The words were ugly but were leaving your mouth before you could soften them. You didn’t regret them, but you hadn’t meant to cut her with the sharpness of your tone. You loved Haley, of course you did, she was your wife and world. However, she was also selfish. You had known this from day one and it was something you had grown to almost find endearing about her. Your princess. And that she was. A total princess.
Her mouth was gaping, eyes growing watery. It was a sight you hated to see more than any other. You’d let a thousand rock crabs cut you before you’d sit and watch her cry. Letting out a deep breath you tried to ground yourself.
“I thought you knew what we were up against this year,” You choked up, eyes also beginning to fill with tears. “I don’t know how many times I confided in you princess, this last season nearly took the farm from us. I almost had to sell the pigs because they were just more mouths to feed and you know they can’t provide for us in the winter...”
Haley chewed on her lips, the pendant forgotten in the grass below her now. You couldn’t help but feel another pang. Something she had to have without a second thought of anything, of you, was now laying in the dirt and forgotten. You understood that wasn’t what she was saying as she offered you all of her undivided attention but you were feeling sore, bitter, scared.
“I’ll go and sell it right now!” She cried out, scrambling to the ground to pick it up. It really was a gorgeous piece of jewelry, delicate silver work encased the gem and it was the exact shade of Haley’s luminous eyes. “Clint will give a fair price! And....and I can help you plant today!”
It was a kind effort with how deeply she disliked the dirt. Even now her eyes scanned over her skirt even if she didn’t realize the micro expressions she had between apologies.
“I didn’t think Y/N... I can’t even find any excuses. I knew how bad it was, but it alway seemed so far away. You’ve just taken such good care of me that I didn’t feel like we were in need. I always have everything, I didn’t think you might be going without, even when times were tough.”
It was so brutally honest that your anger was melting into a sad acceptance. Haley was selfish, but she also had a good heart. And you had tried for years to give everything to that heart, to fill it full and never leave it empty. She loved pretty things, you gave them to her. You could remember that for her birthday your first year in town you had held onto a diamond from the mines. You had known that it would be much better to sell it and set yourself up a bit more comfortably but you’d had no regrets once you’d seen her utter joy at her present. It had been what had gotten her to warm up to you, however minute that warming up was, in the beginning.
“I never want you to feel like you aren’t being cared for but this was huge for me Haley... I don’t want to make you get rid of the pendant because you love it but I need to feel like you are with me for the farm and the lifestyle and the struggles, not just with me for what I can provide you. I want you adorned in jewels and fine clothes and I want only smiles on your face-”
“But what’s the point if we can’t both have those things.” She finished your thought before you’d even had it fully formed. Tears had spilled from her pretty eyes, leaving her cheeks damp and pale. Her hands shook as she reached for you, a new understanding dawning on her.
“Y/N, I am so sorry.” Every word was stressed with so much emotion you had no problem believing her. She hiccuped with distress once, twice, then continued, “When we said our vows I was promising to be in this with you but I see now I’ve been spoiled this whole time. Will you forgive me? I promise I will fix this.”
Drawing her closer into your arms, emotions finally settling in your chest, you pressed a kiss to the crown of her head. You loved her and you knew without a doubt she loved you. Your frustrations weren’t gone, and you two would need a serious talk after this, but for now daylight was passing you by and you two had come to an understanding.
“I’ll walk you to Clint’s and then we can work on the farm together,”
Haley gave you a tight squeeze, lips pressing heavily against yours, thankful you had forgiven her. After all, you always would.

tbh idk what this is teehee
confort fic of Sebastian Stardew valley hehehehe.. gn!farmer x Sebastian - mental health/physical health comfort .
Work alcoholic comfort, comfort in general - no angst (unless you count the farmer feeling off but idk)
Tumblr media
Gentle strokes through your hair, the soft pitter patter of the rain on the shingles of the cabin you've lived in for about a year now, and the gentle rhythmic breathing of the man above you. He was reading a book, your head in his lap and his long slender fingers gently going through your hair mindlessly. Your eyes felt heavy — maybe today was just an off day? You felt wrong... Everything felt wrong. Your body ached for once and your mind felt like static, you're grateful Sebastian didn't question you when you flopped onto your shared bed and laid your head in his lap. You're grateful he's being so gentle with you to begin with...
He slowly makes his way below your head, massaging your neck gently with his hand, to rubbing slow circles on your back. You wanted to cry.. but why? Everything is great — but you felt empty. Maybe it was just seasonal depression, winter's approaching and you don't spend as much time outside as you did in the warmer seasons. Your shoulder popped as you adjusted yourself, looking up at the man. You blinked a couple times, trying to focus on something other than your thoughts. He glanced down, giving you a soft smile.
"hey there.." his voice is gentle and smooth, soft dimples into his cheeks when his lips curl into a smile — full of adoration and warmth.
You gave him a weak smile in return, your face slowly falling as he continues his gentle massage. You watch his expression become softer as he puts the bookmark on his page and gently places the book down onto his side of the bed. He tilts his head at you, grinning softly.
"you feelin' alright..?" He asked softly, not prying too much Incase you didn't want to talk about it.
You hesitated before nodding slowly, he gave you a soft frown, noticing the hesitation. "I understand.. do you want tea? Some food?" He pushes your hair behind your ear, rubbing his thumb against your cheek. You shrug, uninterested in doing much of anything let alone eating or drinking.
"..just a.. odd day I guess.." you murmur, your eyes slowly closing..
"yeah..?" He hums, giving your scalp a soft massage. He leans against the pillows of the bed, taking a deep breath before exhaling and opening them to look down at you. "You're doing well.." he murmurs.
You look up at him, confused and caught off guard. "What..?"
"with the farm... With everyone — everything.. you've done so well," he meets your eyes, smiling again. "You've done so much, for the community and for me.." he leans down to press a kiss to your forehead. "You deserve a couple days to yourself." He finishes.
You laid there, staring at him for a moment. You close your eyes, tiredly smiling as you cup his hand on your face. "Thank you."
He hums, scooping you up into his arms, adjusting his position so your head is on his chest and he lays on the pillows. "I love you, and I'm proud of you." He mumbles against your head.
Your eyes slowly closed, succumbing to much needed sleep. He held you, like he always did when you two slept at night — but this time, you knew you were okay, and tomorrow was going to be okay. It was going to be okay, because he's right there to catch you if you fall.
-
A/N: felt really bad today bc of health conditions so here's this. I'm working on a lot other stuff for Stardew valley but this was the first thing I finished. It's quite short — it's also midnight here... might go to bed ;3 hope u liked it <3

my fav Harvey characterization that I love to daydream abt is the stark difference between classic “slipping on banana peels” and “glasses nervously slipping down nose bridge” Harvey and when he’s in total doctor mode. like his ass does NOT play around in that clinic mama. not clumsy whatsoever. if he tosses a used syringe over his shoulder it goes straight into the trash can. very stern, no playing around attitude. and then at the very end of the check up he’ll walk you out of the clinic and immediately trip on his shoelace as he crosses over the threshold. that’s the hottest shit ever I think.

oooh 70 on the prompts list with shane would be so angstyyyyy plz i need to see ur thoughts on this -galaxy
This one's got a little kick to it ough
70) "After everything we've been through, you still don't think that I love you?"
......
"Honey..wh..what is this?"
"Can't you read? God, and I thought Alex was the only illiterate man in town-"
"I know what it says! But..I don't understand. Did I do something wrong?"
"Besides being a leech on my income for the past year and not doing a damn thing to make up for it....no."
"..are you crazy? I HAVE been doing my part! Just..take these back to Lewis and tell him you changed your mind. I'm not signing them."
"I don't need your signature. Just mine is enough to finalize it. I've already gotten everything packed for you..since you're too goddamn lazy to do it yourself."
"....what?" Tears stung Shane's eyes as he shakily set the stack of papers on the table, his vision blurring. He stared at you, seeing not an ounce of remorse on your face..but instead pure hatred. "Why would you do this behind my back? I-I thought...you-"
"What? You thought I loved you? Hah." The brief laugh that left your lips was cold. "Who could love a messed-up lowlife like you, Shane? I have a farm to take care of, a community center to restore..I can't have you slowing me down. It was a fun little fling, but now you bore me. I gotta get serious about my work."
"That's...all I was to you? A "fling"?!" A hurtful scowl formed on his face, hands shaking. "What about everything we've-?!"
"I only pitied you. And y'know, if I didn't care about Jas growing up without a father figure..I would've left you in the forest that night. I only stayed and married you to make them happy. But you blew your chance to get your act together..they're gonna be so disappointed in you."
As much as he wanted to respond with a snarky "I didn't know there was a time limit"...he was frozen on the spot, unable to say anything.
What could he say?
This was all so sudden...and just when he thought you two were doing so well and he was starting to have a genuinely positive outlook on life..
He made the horrid mistake of checking the mailbox and finding the dreaded papers.
"I'll say this was 50,000 gold well-spent." You grabbed the papers off the table, looking at the broken man before holding out your hand. "Give me that necklace. I'm gonna sell it."
"No..." Shane shook his head and clutched the mermaid pendant, tears streaking his face as he backed into the corner. "I...I-I'm so sorry, I'll try to be better! Just tell me what I can fix, a-and I'll-!!"
Suddenly you pulled out a dagger and swiped at him, causing him to flinch and shield himself, eyes squeezing shut in anticipation-
Yet he wasn't injured, but when he saw his pendant in your hands now...he felt as though you actually twisted that dagger deep into his heart.
He collapsed to his knees, devastated as you sheathed your weapon and pocketed the amulet you once tied around his neck at your wedding.
By your hands, you two were bonded in matrimony...
And by your hands, that bond was severed.
"There's nothing to talk about. I'm sick of pretending that I care for some lazy ungrateful fuck. Goodbye, Shane."
And with that, you stormed out of the house..and he was left there on the floor, his sobs filling the silence in the now empty cabin.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
It was already late when you returned from your mining trip, and once you finished putting the spoils of your expedition into the shipping bin, you yawned and stretched.
The time was 1:10 AM...and your energy was super drained.
You figured Shane was already sound asleep. The idea of crawling into that cozy bed and cuddling with the man you loved had you eager to take off your boots and put your tools away.
However upon opening the door..you immediately caught a faint whiff of beer, and it left a sinking pit in your stomach.
He did bring home a six-pack case today, and he promised to have it in moderation.
But the kitchen trash showed clear evidence of recently-opened cans.
Four out of the six, in fact.
'Oh man..it happened again..'
You knew that he wasn't gonna be able to quit cold turkey just like that. It wasn't a habit he could flip off like a lightswitch, and that's a fact you've come to accept.
Although he had a few beers from time to time, it was nothing like before. And he would always let you know if he was having some....so to realize he drank over half the case tonight alone was alarming.
Why? You were only gone for a few hours..
You entered the bedroom, finding Shane still awake, hunched over on the bed's edge with his face in his hands. He looked completely torn up, and you've never seen him this bad since..
"Shane, sweetheart?"
Startled, he looked up at you, revealing his eyes to be puffy and red from crying. "O-Oh..hi. You..y-you came back?" He hoarsely asked.
"Of course I did..without having to visit Harvey, thank god." You walked over and sat beside him, frowning. "But more importantly are you okay? What's wrong?"
He tried to respond, but the memories of that nightmare made him physically incapable of doing so...and fresh tears welled in his eyes.
A choked sob came out, and as quickly as he tried covering it up--it failed as similar heartbreaking noises followed.
You didn't waste any time pulling him into a hug.
Leaning against you, he sobbed into your neck, soaking the collar of your shirt in tears. But you just hushed him and rubbed his back. He didn't smell too heavily of beer, although it made you wonder what happened tonight that was bad enough to make him relapse.
Was it...you?
Was you being away stressing him out?
Did he think you wouldn't come back-
"[Y/n]...you sure you..really love me? And all of this isn't...a-a joke?" He hiccupped softly.
Those questions made your heart sink, and you briefly pulled away to gaze at him in sadness. You knew he was still struggling with his self-confidence and self-image, often comparing himself to a "squishy bag of flesh" and feeling "too old", but for him to doubt your love?
Even after talking him off a cliff?
Even after going to the gridball game where you shared that first kiss?
Even after giving him the bouquet and mermaid pendant?
"After everything we've been through, you still don't think that I love you?" You asked softly, not with anger, but with worry.
"Just look at me, and look at every other guy in this town. You could'a had a doctor, someone who can still play gridball, a writer who lives by the sea...even that emo guy seems cool. But you chose me..."
With a sniffle, he clutched the mermaid pendant with trembling fingers. "...this pathetic..l-lowlife who doesn't do shit on this farm. I swear I'd change and get my act together, but I'm letting you down again...j-just like everyone else. And I'm so sorry...I'm such a failure." He sobbed harder.
"Wha..that's nonsense. You do more for me and this farm than you could possibly know." You cupped his face, feeling his cheeks grow wet with fresh tears. "You feed the animals, you water any crops my sprinklers could've missed...and those pepper poppers you give me help keep my energy up in the mines so I can come home safely."
"But..I can't even microwave them right." He whined. "I wanna have the energy to cook like you do-"
"What do you mean?" You frowned. "Last week, you made me a killer omelet when I went to bed angry over a Pepper Rex burning my favorite cardigan."
Shane blinked, searching his foggy brain for that memory, before it dawned on him that he actually DID wake up extra early to surprise you with an omelet he cooked on the stove. Made from Charlie's eggs, of course.
"Ah, that's right..well...I guess I'm good at some things.." He sniffled, slowly calming down.
You chuckled softly, thumbing away the rest of his tears, your fingers brushing over his scruff. He recently shaved it, but it grew back rather quickly--like a crop infused with deluxe growth fertilizer.
"You're good at being my partner, and keeping me company after a long day." You kissed him in the lips. "I love you, Shane. Nothing will change that, even if you have relapses."
"I love you, too..and 'm sorry. I just had this really bad nightmare, and I couldn't fight the urge tonight."
"I understand, I'm not angry." Bringing him back into a hug, you sighed as he squeezed you tightly. "Did you wanna talk about it? I know it's late but..I'm sure it'll help us both."
"...you promise not to laugh?"
"I promise."
"I..had a nightmare you divorced me."
"Huh..really?"
"Yeah, you filed the papers behind my back and said some...pretty hurtful stuff, like how it's "the best 50,000 gold you've ever spent", how what we had was just "a fling", and...how I'm leeching off of you." The longer he went on, the more he struggled to swallow back further tears. "And..you took the pendant back by force. With that dagger you always keep on you."
"....."
"I-It's stupid, but it...just felt so real. And when I woke up and you didn't come back from the mines yet, I thought maybe..it actually happened."
"Shane." You shook your head, leaning back again to bring his face into your hands. "No way would I EVER put that much gold towards something that stupid. This farmwork..it's so much to one person to handle, and I'm forever grateful you're here to help me. You're doing your best, and that's all I could ever ask for."
"Thank you.." He nodded, finally realizing that what he dreamed was nothing more than a ridiculous nightmare.
You smiled and kissed him again, making this one last a bit longer before you pulled away. "I'll get you some water, okay? I don't want my baby to have a hangover in the morning."
Shane sheepishly returned the smile, allowing you to get up and go to the kitchen, while he got comfortable in bed and patiently waited for your return. His hand went to the pendant on his chest, relieved it was still there.
Even though you were probably dead-tired from the mines..you still took the time to care for him when he hit another low. You didn't see him as a chore or a leech on your life.
You saw him as your husband, your soulmate..someone you were willing to love through thick and thin even when some days were harder than others.
Of course, his depression might tell him otherwise, and manifest those insecurities into nightmares.
But you'll still be here for him no matter what.

In the calm of the valley, the night sky stretches out in a breathtaking display: the stars shine proudly, their brilliance undimmed by city lights. Despite moving to Pelican Town four years ago, you're still awestruck by the vastness of the cosmos visible to the naked eye— a sight that would have been obscured by the city smog in Zuzu. Back there, spotting a single star was a rare blessing; seeing one that was not, in fact, just the mistaken dim glow of a passing helicopter was an even greater rarity.
Nestling your head into the sturdy hay bale beneath you, you inhale the earthy scent of dried grass mingling with the crisp night air. Above, the canopy of stars twinkles in a mesmerising dance, each constellation a story waiting to be told. Your gaze flits between the shimmering points of light, tracing the familiar patterns of the night sky.
Beside you, your loyal companion snores softly, a comforting rhythm that grounds you in the present moment. Absentmindedly, you stroke the sleeping dog's fur, feeling the warmth of their body against your fingertips. The bottles of pumpkin juice you had meticulously prepared lay forgotten on the ground, their contents untouched. Your large blanket, meant to shield you from the nocturnal chill, sits idle at your feet.
Despite the breathtaking beauty of the scene before you, a pang of guilt tugs at your heart. It feels almost selfish, you think, to bask in such a gorgeous view alone.
Without hesitation, you rise from your spot beside the barn, stretching your tight shoulders with a huff before swiftly leaping over the hardwood fence. Only one other person in town would be awake at this late hour, and you knew exactly where you would find him. You took a deep breath of the crisp air before making your way down the dirt road towards Cindersap Forest.
“Oh, sure– just let yourself in, I guess,” Shane’s gruff voice murmurs from the kitchen, “I can’t believe Lewis lets you keep that ‘Key to the Town’, fuckin’ bullshit.”
You lean against the door frame, a smirk tugging on your lips as Shane pulls out a steaming bowl of ‘JojaBrand™ Meal for One®: Pepper Poppers’ from the microwave. "Shh, you know you secretly enjoy my surprise visits, Shane," you tease, "Besides, I came over to ask you something."
“Well, are you gonna spit it out, toots, or do you plan on waking up the whole house for this announcement?” Shane grumbles, searching for a clean fork. Years ago, you found his standoffish demeanour frustrating– unfortunately for him, however, it only fuelled your desire to develop a relationship with him; to break down those walls he built up.
“I was gonna ask if you wanted to stargaze with me,” you smile, a genuine toothy grin. “It’s a nice night for it.”
Shane’s eyebrows shoot up momentarily as he hesitates, glancing towards you, “You seriously came over just to ask me that?”
“You don’t have to join me if you don’t want to,” you reply, chuckling softly as you push off the door frame and turn to leave, “Just figured we hadn’t caught up in a while.”
You hear a groan coming from behind you, followed by the clattering of a bowl being discarded on the kitchen counter. He had always had a soft spot for you.
“Yeah, yeah,” Shane sighs, “Lemme grab my jacket.”
The night air is crisp as you and Shane traverse the farm. The distant sound of crickets chirping provides a soothing backdrop to the quiet countryside, interrupted only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. Shane walks behind you, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his well-worn jacket; his posture stiff and guarded as always.
As you reach your spot by the barn, you unfurl the blanket and settle against the hay, gazing up at the expanse of stars above.
"So, how've you been, buddy?" you offer Shane a bottle of pumpkin juice, noting the tension in his shoulders. "Feels like I haven't seen much of you lately."
Despite Shane's usual standoffish demeanour, there is a subtle shift in his presence as he lowers himself onto the blanket beside you and grabs the juice. His shoulders relax ever so slightly, and for the first time in a long while, there is a hint of vulnerability in his gaze as he turns his attention skyward.
“I’ve been… I don’t know. Good.” Shane's voice trails off as shifts his gaze to the bottle in his hand, his shoulders slouched while his words hang heavy in the air. He drops his head against the rough surface of the hay bale behind him.
Glancing towards him, you note the furrow in his brow and the tension in his shoulders; his strong features illuminated by the moonlight. You resist the urge to press him further, allowing a comfortable silence to settle between you.
Lost in contemplation, you find solace in the vastness above.
After what felt like an eternity, Shane spoke up once more: his voice barely above a whisper.
"Any time I go shopping, like at Pierre’s or when I used to restock the shit they sold at JojaMart, I’d always feel like I’m in the way, y’know?” Shane confesses, his gaze fixed on the black velvet of the night sky. “As if someone is gonna be blocked off by me. And I know it’s not just 'cause I'm a big guy, doll, because then I leave the shop and realise that I still feel like I’m in the way.”
“Do you feel like that now?” you probe, allowing your gaze to drift towards him.
“Kinda, yeah. I always feel like that, I guess,” Shane admits, his voice tinged with resignation. He takes a swig of his juice. “Like I’m some kind of… rock stuck in a stream, with everybody else on planet Earth barging ahead around me—or some other flowery metaphor Elliot’d come up with, I don’t fucking know.”
“Is therapy helping with that feeling? Seems to me like you’re really making progress, if that means anything.” you reply, too enamoured with the contours of his side profile to notice the way his pinky finger locks with yours on the plush blanket. A promise of vulnerability.
“Sorta, but there's a pressure there as well, y’know? Gotta be happy all the time now, otherwise what was it all for? I don't even have a job anymore, I just... I’m just worried that…” Shane pauses, his fingers absentmindedly plucking at the hay behind him, “…Ah, forget it.”
“Worried that what?” You turn to face him, the spectacle of the cosmos long-forgotten.
“It's just that… what if my addiction; shitty personality; tendency to lie about the most basic crap to see people’s reaction; awful sense of humour; impulse to fall in love with someone if they’re nice to me; horrid fashion sense; inability to take a photo of myself smiling: all that crap… are all irrefutable? What if I was doomed to—”
“Shane, don’t—”
“I’ve tried… I’ve tried so hard every day of my life, (Y/n).” Shane's voice cracks, “I just… don’t wanna be a screw-up anymore.”
"Shane, you are not a screw-up," you demur, reaching out a hand to stroke his soft bicep, "You're just… human. You've already taken huge steps by just acknowledging your screw-up-ness and reaching out for help. And yeah, you have been trying, every single day. That's bravery, Shane. That's strength! I'm tired of you being the only one who doesn't see that."
The following silence is only interrupted by the distant chirping of crickets. Shane's eyes wearily scan your face for some kind of tell, as if your response was an inauthentic prank meant to lull him into a false sense of security. The bags under his eyes are shadowed and heavy. Your heart swells. “Repeat after me—”
“(Y/n), please—” pleads Shane.
“Mister Shane Andrew Miller, repeat after me!”
“Yes, Ma'am,” He chuckles, wiping away a stray tear.
“I, Shane, am a strong, brave, and amazing person; and I am going to be okay.”
“I’m a strong, brave, amazing person… and I'm gonna be okay.”
“Louder!”
“I'm gonna be okay!” He shouts— hands cupped around his mouth to bellow into the sleeping farm. After a nervous chuckle, Shane resigns to a slouch as he looks towards you with a blush warming his cheeks.
“Feel a little better?”
“I feel like a jack-ass,” Shane mumbles,“But yeah, a little.”
“Good,” you reach your hand out to caress his cheek, your thumb tracing patterns in his stubble when he leans into the touch, “and you only looked a little like a jack-ass.”
“Fuck off,” Shane laughs, the banter bringing a familiar light to his eyes, as he shoves your hand away playfully.
You both stay like that for a moment after the laughter dies down, embraced by the warmth of each other's silent company— one of you occasionally turning to retell the latest town gossip, or reference an inside joke neither of you can remember the origins of.
“I should, uh, be heading back now,” Shane moves to stand up, groaning as he stretches his legs, “Penny's taking the kiddo to the community centre tomorrow for some arts and crafts, and I gotta be up early to pack her lunch.”
You look up at his looming form, only now realising how long you had both been out here for.
“Of course, no worries,” you clumsily rise to your feet as your lips quiver with a tentative grin, a delicate curve that hovers on the precipice of expression. “Um, tell Jas I say ‘Hi’, okay?”
“Sure thing,” Shane replies, the awkwardness palpable, “Night, (Y/n),”
“Goodnight,” you raise your hand in a half-hearted wave as you watch his slouching figure turn to leave.
He makes it a couple steps, barely out of reach, before a surge of courage propels you forward. Reaching out to grasp the sleeve of Shane’s frayed hoodie before doubt can inhibit your impulsion, you pull him towards you.
Your lips crash on his in a rush of fervent emotion. One of Shane’s calloused hands instinctively rises to the nape of your neck; the other wraps around your waist as he pulls you closer, desperately. Bodies flush against each other as his fingers tangle in your hair.
A tingling sensation runs through your body. You reach up to gently cup his face as he deepened the kiss, his trembling lips continue moving against yours with a gentle urgency. In this moment, nothing else matters - no worries or fears, no past or future, no moon or stars.
Your heart races as you both pull away.
“To be clear, if this is, like, a pity thing or whatever,” Shane mumbles, his lips tickling your own as he attempts to catch his breath. “That’s um– that’s fine by me, I don’t… I wasn’t expecting this.”
“No that wasn’t… um,” You rest your forehead on his, closing your eyes as you attempt to calm your frantically beating heart, “I just… wanted to kiss you.”
Shane laughs as he brings both hands to your face, cupping your cheeks as he kisses you once more. This was different, however: gentle, soft, yet just as vulnerable. You look up at him, eye’s shining with the light from the stars, as you admire the softness of his usually stern features.
“You were right, this was a nice night to stargaze.”

Funny thing about Shane being my comfort character is that I tell normal people about him and I say
" he's my adorable little bean, I love to see him happy and he's so skrunkly little blorbo! My beautiful handsome husband, he's like a spicy little kitten! Soo cute!"
And he looks like this

craving sam marriage fluff 😌
Alright! Hope you enjoy!
Sam Marriage Fluff
Definitely writes songs for you
He still plays his music almost every day and hangs out with Abigail and Sebastian to write more songs
Teases you by calling you his "fangirl"
Tries to help out on the farm but he's not great at it
If you ask him to water any crops he will inevitably step on one and either cripple it or ruin it completely
He isn't particularly confident around the animals either
He's trying his best though!
Just be patient and help him and he'll start to improve
Loves your dog/cat
Will call them cute nicknames and baby talk them when he doesn't think you're watching
His love language is physical touch
He's always hugging and kissing you
Nighttime cuddles are a must
He sleeps on the right side of the bed
He starts off spooning you or letting you lay your head on his chest
At some point in the night, he'll roll over and start hogging the bed
You're used to it though so you just work around it
You definitely wake up before him on most mornings
He's not a great cook but will do his best to make you breakfast on the days that he wakes up before you
If his band gets big enough, he'll offer to have you come on tour with him
If you decide to stay home he'll call you everyday, even falling asleep on the phone with you sometimes
He misses you desperately but music is his calling
Besides, he knows how much he'll be able to support you money-wise when he gets home
He wants kids for sure
Will want to name your kids after things like bands and music references
Doesn't want a boy or girl more
He'll be happy with whatever the gender is

when you've moved on | elliott x gn!reader | part two
summary -> he slowly lost interest in you after you got married. now he watches you fall back in love with someone else. warnings -> very slight mention of nsfw, implied age gap, mainly just angst! wc -> 1106
a/n: i swear i keep trying to write for the bachelorettes but then get inspired with an idea for the bachelors :') anyways have this, decided to do elliott since he's "so much older and wiser" iykyk.
this was inspired by the dialogue you get when your hearts with your sdv spouse gets low, except i flipped the tables :) lmk if you guys want to see this as a series!!
part one -> the way i loved you (sebastian)
tolerate it -> "what would you do if i break free and leave us in ruins?"
elliott's pen hovers over the page in front of him, unmoving for the past ten minutes now. his grip tightens, knuckles white in frustration as he finally releases it, falling back in his chair with his eyes closed as it clatters onto his table.
his writer's block has never been worse, and it's because all he can think of is you.
more so, his loss of you.
no matter how many times he replays the scenario in his head, he can't make sense of how he lost you. he still remembers his wedding day, how he couldn't help but tear up at the sight of you approaching him down the aisle.
"you said you wouldn't cry," you'd teased him.
"i said i would try, my dear," he responded, touching your cheek gently, "but how can i not? your beauty is otherworldly today."
he remembers his vows, his promise to always be by your side. he remembers kissing you like his life depended on it. he remembers going home with you that night, in disbelief that he could finally call you his as he pulled his hair into a bun, mermaid's pendant hitting his bare chest as he dragged you to the bedroom.
"i love you, y/n," he'd said after, both of you panting in exhaustion and satisfaction beside each other. "more than anything else in this universe. i wouldn't trade you for a hundred iridium bars."
you'd laughed, turning your head to look at him with shining eyes and pink cheeks. "really? how about a thousand?"
"nor a thousand."
"ten thousand?"
"not even ten thousand bars, no."
". . . how about a hundred thousand?"
"no, not even a hundred thousand bars!" he'd turned to you then, wide-eyed and holding back a grin at the sight of your scheming gaze. "my love, let's be reasonable—"
"what about a million bars?"
"wha . . . a million bars of pure iridium . . . ? dear, don't make me do this . . ."
"a-ha!" you'd said, sitting up in bed suddenly. "so you would!"
"i never said such a thing!"
at the sight of his pout, you had sprawled yourself on top of him, planting a kiss on his nose as he looked down at you with a smile.
"i love you, too, el."
elliott sighs, his head falling forward into his hand. one part of him wishes to hear you utter those words again; the other prays he'll one day forget you ever said them.
the first few seasons after the wedding had been dreamlike — elliott had never felt so full of life before. it was like being with you had opened his eyes to how colorful and bright the world could be. sometimes he would wake up before you and admire your sleeping figure, a soft smile appearing on his lips every time he caught a glimpse of your necklace.
he doesn't remember when the spark began to fade, though.
no, he only recalls the days he began to leave the farm early in the morning to spend time alone in his old cabin on the beach, coming back only for dinner. the two of you would eat quietly, sitting at opposite ends of the table. he would ask and answer questions shortly, mainly focusing on the dull, uninspiring feeling he seemed to get every time he was in your shared house.
he never noticed the sad look filling your eyes, begging him to pay attention to you, to show you the love he once had for you. he paid no mind to how your face lit up every time he came home, only to deflate as he walked past you. he never even thought about how your conversations with him had turned one-sided, as he would spill his troubles to you without even giving you a chance to share yours.
not until it was too late, that is.
". . . do you still love me?"
it was a question he never thought he would hear from you, and yet he'd unknowingly driven you to that point. elliott had never heard silence so loud until then, realizing that, for some reason, he couldn't answer your question.
"answer me, elliott," you'd said, voice wavering as he uneasily met your eyes. "i need to know this. i feel like you've been treating me like a kid lately — when i talk to you, i can barely get a word out without you lecturing me. you're barely home to even do that anymore."
he scoffed. "please, y/n, be reasonable," he had replied, the same words he had said that night after professing his love to you. "i've simply been a bit caught up lately, that's all. i need my own time to write."
"seriously? that's what you're going to say?" you shook your head, crossing your arms as you looked at him pleadingly. "why are you acting like this? do you seriously think being a bit older than me justifies how you've been treating me?"
"that has nothing to do with our situation," he snapped sharply, then sighed. "please, can we go to bed? i'm tired of this." he started towards the bedroom door, leaving you behind him.
"you never answered my question."
he stopped.
"it's okay, el," you'd whispered. "i had a feeling i already knew. i was just hoping you would at least be able to tell me."
so now, here he is. unable to finish the sequel to his novel because he'd dedicated the first one to you, and what's the point of writing a second one if you're no longer by his side?
what's the point if you have sebastian now, who spends every second with you? who is much younger than him and rides a motorcycle? who gives you a mermaid's pendant — a year after the two of you separated, by the way — and makes sure the entire town can make it to your wedding?
he doesn't know what you see in him. sure, his passion for music is a bit admirable, but can he really treat you properly? there's no way seb can make you smile, make you laugh, make you cry out of pure joy or pleasure like he did.
elliott had attended the wedding, of course, so he could make sure you were happy.
he most certainly wasn't hoping to see a twinge of hesitation, maybe even regret in your eyes as you walked down the aisle again.
as elliott abandons his writing and heads out the doorway of his cabin, the image of you happier than he'd ever seen you while passionately kissing sebastian is burned into his mind.
you are no longer his, and it's entirely his fault.

Safe (Sebastian x GN!Reader)
Rating: Teen+
Summary: You run into Sebastian on your way into town from the bathhouse, and he invites you to go for a ride with him. The thing is, you’re terrified of motorcycles.
Luckily, he helps you feel safe while you prepare to accompany him.
Author's Note: This was 100% wholeheartedly inspired by these images by sinsydia.. when I say I have been rotating that last one in particular in my brain for DAYS I'm not exaggerating!! ;;w;; Hope y'all like this x
Check it out on ao3!
It was a rough day.
A new season had just started so you spent more time than usual tending to your crops, and then had to delve into the mines for a good few hours to fulfill a bulletin board request.
Got your ass kicked by some bugs and bats all for a stupid topaz… Elliot better need it for something good.
After dinner, you felt awful, but didn’t want to go to bed just yet; you figured you at least deserved a nice dip at the bathhouse first to relax. So after cleaning the dishes, you trudged through the backwoods, up the mountain, and then across the broken, dirty tiles of the worn-down building feeling half-dead; wondering, Is this really worth the hike?
About 20 minutes into your soak, you realized that it totally was worth it. You found yourself shoving your swimsuit back into your locker with a second wind that only a nap could usually supply, ready to enjoy the rest of your night.
Rather than turning right into the backwoods, you made your way further down the hill with an extra pep in your step, deciding to take the long way home. A round headlight stopped you in your tracks, though.
You squinted through the beam and smiled, noticing a tall, hooded figure resting against the bike that beam came from, with a cigarette hanging between his lips. Had to try your best not to ogle at how good he looked. As much as motorcycles freaked you out, you couldn’t deny the appeal of seeing Sebastian leaning so coolly against his own.
As you approached, he turned to you, nodding his head once in greeting. “Hey,” he offered before turning for a moment to breathe out some smoke.
“What’s up?”
“I was just about to head out.” He runs a hand through his hair, pushing back his hood in the process.
“Oh, cool,” you nodded, sparing a glance south towards the town. He probably wants me to leave, then. “I won’t keep y—“ you stopped yourself at the sight of a goofy and mischievous — albeit very handsome — grin staring down at you when you faced him again.
A nervous laugh slipped its way past your lips while you looked around at the scenery once more to distract yourself. Hopefully your cheeks didn’t look as warm as they felt…
Through some residual giggles, you asked, “What’s with the face?”
He flashed you a toothier smile. “Wanna come with?”
You took a deep breath in. On one hand, a night out with your crush sounded amazing. On the other…
You puffed your cheeks, still holding your breath while you stared down Sebastian’s vehicle.
Finally letting that air escape your lungs, you hesitantly responded with a question of your own. “You… you mentioned a while back that you'd keep me safe if I ever rode with you, right?”
“Yeah,” he nodded, “of course.”
“You promise you will?”
“I’ll do ya one better.” He held out a pinky, his face softening as he wiggled it at you.
You could’ve sworn your heart melted a little when you linked your little finger through his. The two of you remained comfortably intertwined for a few beats while you decided what to do.
You knew you’d be wondering about what you were missing out on all night if you didn’t go with him… well, wherever he was going.
Fuck it.
With a sigh, you nodded. “Alright, yeah.” The words came out airy, your nerves putting themselves on full display.
Sebastian’s grin grew wide and genuine while he snuffed out his cigarette in the ashtray he kept near the garage door.
“Sick.” He nodded towards the bike, “You get on first. I’ve gotta grab a few things.”
Nodding at the instructions he gave you, you padded over to the motorcycle, inspecting it a little before straddling the seat.
Your heart raced thinking of what was to come. You trusted Sebastian, of course, but you didn’t trust other drivers on the road. Weren’t sure how you felt about being a passenger without a roof or doors to shield you, either.
Your friend came back with two helmets in hand — one very clearly old and worn, and the other sleek and new, as if recently polished. He handed you the fancier one.
There was a noticeable shake to your hands while you took the protective gear from him.
“Hm…” he hummed at that observation, his mouth crooked. “Scoot forward. I wanna try something.”
With the helmet in your lap and your view plastered to the instrument panel, you did just that. Then, you stiffened as you felt Sebastian climb on behind you, reaching around your frame to hold the handlebars.
He hummed pensively again, his baritone reverberating through your back and sending a shiver down your spine, before nodding. “I can work with this.”
“Is this even legal?” you asked, looking behind yourself and up at him.
Yoba above you’ve never been this close to him. As if your anxiety regarding the motorcycle wasn’t enough stress on your poor heart…
He shrugged and looked down at you, grinning. “Probably not.” His breath was minty and smokey as it brushed your face. He winked as he tacked on, “That’s what the backroads are for.” The small gesture had your stomach doing flips.
You nodded, still unsure, but again trusting his judgment; and after putting his own helmet on, he put a large hand on your shoulder and leaned down, getting close to your ear.
“Hey, it’s gonna be okay. We’ll take it slow, yeah?”
Too nervous to look at his eyes this closely through the polycarbonate between you, you kept your view on his knee, nodding.
After a pat where his hand was, he reached around you and grabbed the other helmet, plopping it down over your head. The action made you laugh. Definitely helped to lighten the mood.
“Alright, a few things,” he went on while you adjusted the headgear, pointing towards some metal bars near the front wheels of the vehicle. “You see those crash bars there?”
“Yup.”
“Keep your feet on ‘em. Any dangling when we’re in motion could get dangerous.” Next, while you heeded his words, Sebastian brought both hands around you and grasped the handlebars near where they met. “If you need to grab anything, which you should if you want to really feel secure, hold onto this. Any higher,” he slid his hands towards the grips, “and you could mess with my steering.” You could hear a sly smile in his voice as he suggested, “Unless you wanna steer—“
You cut him off, your own tone amused. “No way in hell.”
He barked out a quick laugh. “Whatever you say. Now, one more thing.”
“Hm?”
“Let me know if you feel too spooked at any point and I’ll pull over, or we can just turn back, or whatever.”
Your anxiety had already been washing away, but that suggestion solidified how safe he really made you feel.
You breathed deeply.
He really would keep you safe.
“Yeah, sounds good,” you nodded. “I trust you, though. I think I’ll be okay.”
Braving the closeness, you turned your head towards his again. He was looking down at you already, so your helmets bumped in the middle, leaving both of you chuckling as a result.
“Thanks, Seb.”
“What for?”
You shrugged. “For looking out for me, I guess, I dunno.” You could see his eyes grin through the lens of his helmet before he headbutted your own with it. You stifled a giggle.
“No problem, ya sap.” He started up the bike before looking down at you again. “Ready?”
“Yeah,” you breathed. “Let’s do this.”

Hi there!
If you still take stardew valley requests please write hurt/comfort with Shane and (gn) reader about Shane getting progressively more worried about the farmer each time they go mining because of all the injuries they get there to the point where one day he snaps and breaks down in front of the farmer. It would be nice if you could show shane slowly loosing his mind each day but that would probably make the fic longer so no pressure. just pls make sure theres comfort after the hurt, bad endings make me sad :(
Thank you in advance, and even if you choose not to write this i hope you still have a lovely day.
I'm always down for Shane angst <3
In my main file I fear he's like this bc I'm constantly coming back from the dangerous mines/skull caverns on like 1 hp at 1:50 am
......
(Spring, Year 1)
"Hi, Shane!"
"God, what do you want now?"
"Nothing. I'm off to the mines." You grinned at the rugged man in front of you, holding up your pickaxe. "I'm shooting for level 120 this time, and hopefully I can pick up more gems along the way."
Shane raised a brow. "...and I care because?"
"You don't have to. Just thought I'd let you know."
'What? Like you think I'll go looking for you if you pass out? Forget it. Whatever happens is your own damn fault."
"I know the risks, but thank you." You politely answered, ignoring his blunt rudeness before checking the monster slayer guide. "The Adventurer's Guild wants me to slay a ton of bats...only 200 more to go."
""Adventurer's Guild?" Sounds stupid and childish." He grumbled, taking a swig of joja cola in his grasp. He was already running late to work, and he didn't want to get yelled at by Morris.
And he certainly didn't want you, the new farmer who made it their mission to annoy the shit out of him everyday, being the reason.
"Well it's neither of those things. It's actually thrilling." You chuckled, before digging an emerald out of your pocket. "I meant to sell this yesterday, but you can have it."
"...the hell? What am I supposed to do with this?" His brows furrowed at the green mineral you shoved into his hand.
"Keep it..for good luck, I guess?" You shrugged. "You can put it in your pocket and forget about it if you want. I just wanted to give you something nice. Plus, not to be weird, but...it kinda reminded me of your eye color."
Normally, any other villager would've been thrilled that you wanted to befriend them with gifts that reminded you of them.....
Yet Shane just stared at you as though you've confessed to stalking him.
"If you wanna give me something that's actually "nice", buy me a beer at the saloon next time." He sneered, brushing past you and continuing towards JojaMart, while you headed north of town, already knowing what you're gonna do tonight.
When you looked over your shoulder, you could see him pocket the emerald rather than throw it away despite him passing by several trash cans.
And you smiled.
.
.
.
.
.
.
(Present Day)
"Awh, you still held onto that emerald even after all this time?"
"Yeah, so what? It was the first gift anyone's really given me.." Shane confessed, heat rising to his cheeks as he held the mineral between his fingers. "I never believed in all that crap about crystals and "energy" that Emily talks about. But..I just like keeping this one around. It's like...erm..."
"A testament to the start of our friendship and eventual marriage?" You cheekily grinned as you polished your weapon, before looking to your husband.
He nodded. "Exactly what I was gonna say."
"I know you so well." Chuckling, you walked over to kiss him on the cheek. "I'm gonna head to the mines, okay? Welwick says the spirits will shower everyone in good luck. I wanna see if the fabled prismatic shards really do exist."
Almost immediately, Shane froze..and he found himself wanting to desperately say "no" and convince you to stay on the farmhouse.
But he didn't know why.
From the moment he met you, he knew you sought adventure and profits in the mines, fighting all sorts of monsters for the Adventurer's Guild. He's seen skeletons, mummies, and golems caged up at Spirits' Eve festivals, but never the wild ones below the surface who attacked you relentlessly.
Yet you never let the constant dangers deter you from exploring.
Mining was exhausting work, yet rewarding every time you cracked a stone open to find a diamond or discovered a treasure chest. With the materials you've gathered, you were able to craft some rings to wear, enchanted with powers to help make your excursions easier and safer.
Despite being well-prepared, though, Shane did have his concerns...especially as once you came home after clashing with skeletons, a scar on your head from a flying femur bone that still hasn't fully healed.
You only went to Harvey to get it checked out after your husband--who was your boyfriend at the time--insisted on it.
Even before that, he'd see you around town, bearing a new bug bite, scratch, burn, bruise, or bandaid on your body.
It never worried him before, but after that skeleton incident, he finally understood that those monsters were real and you were seriously getting yourself hurt.
He'd go to the mines with you if not for his fears that he'll only make things worse. There's a good chance he'll slow you down and find himself getting swarmed by slimes, bats, bugs, and whatever the hell else was there....and he wasn't exactly the most fit to swing a sword or pickaxe.
Simple walks made him tired.
What good would he do?
"Shane? What's wrong?"
Blinking, he snapped out his thoughts and saw your concerned face. "Nothing, sweetheart." He dismissed, giving you a little smile. "Just be careful out there, alright? I'll take care of things here."
"Thank you, baby." Smiling back, you gave him a kiss before heading out the door with your backpack and tools. "Off to the bottom of the mines I go!"
Shane tensed.
"Wait-"
As quickly as the door opened, it slammed shut, and he was left by himself in the cabin.
It was an uncomfortable silence.
'Maybe I should've tagged along.....buh, what am I saying? They'll be fine. They do this all the time. Stop getting so worked up, idiot..' Clearing his mind yet again, he went off to check things around the farm for you, deciding to watch TV later on.
There was gonna be another Tunneler's game tonight, so at least he had that to look forward to.
Nothing like that, some good food in the fridge, and this cozy cabin he got to call home...
And it was all because of you.
If you could build everything here and still having the energy to go mining and fight monsters, why should he worry?
.
.
.
.
.
1:20 AM
After a productive day, Shane managed to fall asleep early for once.
Only be woken up by the creak of the bedroom door.
Light almost immediately flooded his vision, stirring him from his slumber as he grumbled and tried to shield his eyes, wondering what time it was.
"Fuck..morning already-?"
"No, honey..it's...just me. Sorry.."
He blinked, sitting up to see that it was only you coming into the room, removing your rings. One of them served as your light source, yet it didn't hide the numerous scratched and bruises that littered your skin.
And they were all fresh.
"Babe, wha...are you okay?" Shane was now fully awake, watching as you peeled off your jacket and trousers, tossing them into the corner of the room before dragging yourself into bed.
Only then could he see your injuries up close and personal, and his heart began racing. "What happened? You look like hell."
"I'm fine, Shane. I just..need to sleep it off.."
"B-But...there's blood everywhere.." He mumbled, his eyes going to the clothes in the corner. "I can call Harvey-"
"No..don't. I already patched myself up. I'll be fine in the morning..I just wanna be here with you." Smiling weakly, you kissed him, before putting the prismatic shard into his hand. "Look. It exists...haha...it's so pretty, right? It's yours."
He didn't know what to say, staring dumbfounded at the mineral.
What hell did you go through to get this?
And as much as he loved it..why get it for him?
Why risk your life?
But when he looked back to question you further, you were already passed out beside him, looking peaceful despite the wounds on your body.
Eventually, he slid the prismatic shard under his pillow and laid back down, only to hesitate in wrapping his arm around you.
All he could do was gaze at your exhausted face..and the dried blood under your nose.
Least to say, he had trouble falling back to sleep.
..........
Ever since that night, Shane's grown increasingly worried over your safety during your mining trips. And it began to affect his usual routine around the farm.
In fact, calling it "worry" at this point would be a heavy understatement..
It became straight-up paranoia.
Whether you headed off to the mines or Skull Caverns early because of an "extra lucky day" or simply because you needed a specific resource, you'd always come back home the same way:
At later hours, with more injuries and bandages than last time, constantly on the verge of passing out and barely able to hold a conversation with him.
Of course, you'd have breakfast with him, and you'd never leave the farmhouse without giving him a kiss...but it did nothing to ease his mind, as he'd constantly see your wounds and dread whatever horror stories you were about to tell him.
Even though you're perfectly nonchalant as you talk about a serpent who tried wrapping itself around you and squeeze every last breath out of your body, it made Shane feel utterly sick to his stomach.
How could you be so calm after so many brushes with death?
He didn't understand.
On the surface, he seemed fine with you leaving. But when you did, he'd find himself turning to beer to calm his nerves..although most days he was able to resist the urge and occupy himself with farming tasks or video games.
Despite this, he hasn't outright told you anything. He knew mining was your passion and thought you'd chastise him for "worrying over nothing".
So he kept it to himself, thinking his anxiety was being stupid.
Then the final straw came the evening when he got a call from Harvey's clinic around 5PM.
One that he hoped to never hear:
You passed out, and were currently being treated for serious injuries.
He bolted out the cabin, all the way to the town square and damn near broke the door down. There, Harvey, Linus, and Marlon were at your bedside, the latter two having brought you in after seeing you fall unconscious in from of the elevator, covered in blood and shrapnel.
Fortunately, you were expected to make a full recovery with just stitches and some IV fluids to rehydrate your body...but you still owed Shane one hell of an explanation.
This time around, you landed in an "infested" area of the 100s, trying to use a bomb to kill off most of the monsters.
Only to trip over a stupid lava crab and drop the bomb after you just ignited it, damn near losing your leg trying to kick it away from you in time.
And by the grace of Yoba, you were able to limp your way back to the ladder, return to floor zero, where Linus so-happened to be passing by the mine entrance.
You gave the poor old man quite a fright, as he didn't know how much blood on you was from the monsters...or you.
In the end, the bomb left shrapnel in your flesh, searing your clothing and requiring stitches to ensure you didn't bleed out. You appreciated Harvey for his quick work and for Linus and Marlon for taking you to him.
However nobody in that clinic was more terrified over your condition than Shane, who was in disbelief that you were able to stand and walk back home with him after getting discharged.
He wouldn't talk to you, although his hands shook as he helped you into bed, still sleeping beside you like he did every night before this.
But this time...he had the worst nightmare possible.
He was down in the mines with you, except he felt stuck and couldn't do anything to warn you or save you from the impending danger.
It was like he was spectating a game, instead forced to watch as the bats and monsters made of shadows descended upon you with their teeth bared and claws out, tearing into your body. You had yelled for him to save you, to stop being useless, damning him for not stopping you from leaving...yet their horrible noises drowned out any further shouts.
Then you were gone.
You were gone and he failed you.
And it was all his fault.
It made him joltbwide awake at 3 AM, and he felt like his heart was about to burst from his chest. His mind kept going to you, constantly checking to make sure you're still breathing, unable to fall back to sleep for a while.
When he did, he was in tears.
..........
"No."
"Shane, I know last night was bad. But I'm not-"
"You're not going to the mines today. I mean it."
Dumbfounded, you gazed at Shane, who was physically blocking you from leaving the cabin. A scowl was written all over his face.
You sighed and rubbed the side of your head. "It's only the first few levels, honey. Willy needed bug meat for-"
"Right. The "first few" you say, and then I'll get a call from Harvey at 2 AM about you needing emergency surgery again." He gritted his teeth, tears coming to his eyes. "Whatever he or anyone in this damn town needs in those mines can wait. Why can't you just stay?!"
"I don't understand.." Your eyebrows furrowed. "You never cared before if I went there. What changed?"
"What changed....? What changed is that I've been having a lot more of sleepless nights lately! I can barely eat or do anything except worry and worry about you. And it's because...because..." He trailed off.
"Because what?"
"......."
You sighed. "Shane, if you're not gonna tell me what's wrong, then I don't see why-"
"Because you've been scaring me to death okay?!" His hands now gripping your shoulders as he stared at you. "You think you're invincible, but you aren't. What don't you get?! How badly are you gonna let those things hurt you?! Or be the reason YOU DROP DEAD AND DON'T COME HOME?!!" He screamed.
Your own eyes widened, stunned by his words..and eventually you saw the realization flash across his face as he blurted out his true feelings.
The ones he tried to hide from you, yet consumed him for hours upon hours whenever you left for the mines.
It made your heart plummet.
His breath hitched, and you then saw the tears beginning to fall from his greenish eyes.
"Shane..."
"[Y/n], you saved me from throwing my life away. And...i-it's like you're throwing away yours for no reason!" He sobbed. "Night after night, I have nightmares of seeing your limp body..a-and....and I can't save you. I can't do anything except scream and beg them to stop hurting you! But they never listen! A-And...I just...I-I don't wanna lose you. I can't lose you..."
He looked totally shattered, making you finally realize how serious this was.
Your guilt right now was immensurable, watching the man you loved fall apart right in front of you.
And it was your fault.
"Sweetheart, I'm so sorry..." You pulled him into a tight hug, and he completely broke down in your arms. His quiet crying became muffled by your shoulder. "I..I had no idea you were feeling that way. Why didn't you tell me about the nightmares sooner?"
"You would've thought..th-they were stupid. Or that I sound "needy" or controlling.." He sniffled. "I-I know I can't stop you from going, but...I just..a-after what happened to you last night, I...I.."
"Oh, honey..that was my dumb mistake. The monsters had nothing to do with my injuries." Rubbing his back, you gently kissed his head. "I was tired and got clumsy with a stupid bomb..but I promise it won't happen again. You're right. I'm not invincible. I need that reality check sometimes."
He didn't say anything, instead holding onto you tighter.
You never realized how badly your mining trips and injuries were affecting him...affecting this very relationship.
The Shane you met back in Year 1 could care less if you dropped dead. He outright said he'd never go looking for you and that whatever happened was your own fault.
But the Shane you knew now was crying in your arms over the mere thought that one day you'll go into the mines and never come out, holding it all in until he couldn't anymore.
You've really helped him open up to you, but now you were tearing him apart inside and never really knew it until this point.
"W-Will you just..stay here today, please?" He finally spoke, not caring about how needy or pathetic that sounded.
"...I will." You answered. "I'll take a break from mining for a good while."
"....you would do that for me?"
"Of course. I'd do anything for you, Shane. Hell..I'd give that up altogether if you wanted me to."
You felt him shake his head, and you chuckled, squeezing him tightly. "I'm only kidding, but I promise. No more mining this week."
Shane raised his head up, looking to make sure you were serious. And he saw nothing but sincerity in your expression.
You sighed softly and cupped the sides of his wet face, seeing the torrent of anxiety and frustration raging like an ocean current in his eyes. "You must've felt so lonely and terrified, baby..I'm sorry. I won't make you feel that way ever again."
He sniffled again as you brushed away his tears, before taking ahold of your wrist to kiss your palm...where your first scar from a rock crab came from.
How badly did he wanna kiss away every scar those bastards left on you until none remained.
Some faded with time and care, but others were more permanent--testaments to your survival down in the mines..as well as your several brushes with death.
Heat rose to your cheeks, watching him become so affectionate and gentle with you, even though he knows you're not made of glass whatsoever.
Eventually, his tears ceased as you both decided to go lay down on the bed together, with Shane cuddling up to you and resting his head on your chest. All he could hear was your strong heartbeat drowning out the noise in his mind.
It was still kicking, like you.
"Thank you..god, that was exhausting.." He mumbled. "I'm sor-"
"You don't have to be sorry for being honest with me." You reassured, petting his hair. "I just..wish I picked up the signs sooner."
"INah, I should've been clearer...and maybe that would spare myself this headache I got now.."
"Hmm..how about we sleep in until you feel better? Then we can check on the chickens."
Feeling him nod and wrap his arms around you, you took that as a "yes" and chuckled softly, knowing you weren't gonna leave this spot anytime soon.
But that's okay.
There's no other place you'd rather be. Not even the mines.
