Scottish Fiction / Edwin Morgan It isn't in the mirror It isn't on the page It's a red hearted vibration Pushing through the walls of dark imagination Finding no equation There's a red road rage But it's not road rage It's asylum seekers engulfed by a grudge Scottish friction, Scottish fiction It isn't in the castle It isn't in the mist It's a calling of the waters as they break to show The new black death with reactors aglow You think your security Can keep you in purity You will not shake us off Above or below Scottish friction, Scottish fiction

Seriously tempted to write something like Outlander which is less romance, time travel and drama but more a Sharpe/Aubrey-Maturin/Cadfael/Shardlake of the Jacobean era.
Does anyone know of any modern books that already exist so I don't have to write it? 🤣

MacKenna has no choice but to employ the services of rogue Matheson Underwood and his small army of outlaws to defend him and his castle. It promises to be bloody standoff between the warrior tribe and the savage might of the outlaws. Matheson is a powerful adversary, but Toran has decades of keen battle prowess behind him. Who will win the throne of the Kingdom of Fife?"

The Collapsing Wave by Doug Johnstone
Today I am delighted to share my review of The Collapsing Wave by Doug Johnstone, the second book in the Enceladon series @writerdougj @OrendaBooks @randomthingstours #books #bookreview #thecollapsingwave #bookstagram #booksofinstagram
Oh happy days. This is the book I have really been looking forward to! Today I’m sharing my thoughts on The Collapsing Wave by Doug Johnstone, the second book in his Enceladons series. I loved The Space Between Us and it was one of my very top reads of 2023. My thanks to publisher, Orenda Books, for the advance copy of this book and to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours for the tour invite. Here’s…

Rationale
I chose the poem Scottish Fiction by Edwin Morgan as the focus of my video montage assignment because the album on which it features (The Remote Part by Idlewild) is one of my favourite records of all time.

(Above) Cover artwork for the album The Remote Part by Idlewild. The image is from the film My Way Home (1978), which was provided by the British Film Institute.
The album was released in the summer of 2002, a couple of months prior to the start of my second year of college. It quickly became something of a soundtrack to that gleeful year studying graphic design at Cork Institute of Technology, scoring raucous nights out, panicked deadline marathons, and CD Walkman-fuelled creative explorations.

The closing track of the album, In Remote Part / Scottish Fiction, features Morgan's poem. It is recited by the poet himself, over a backing track of fiery guitars and ferocious drums which compound the simmering anger of the poem's lyrics and Morgan's delivery.
It is a combination that has always resonated with me; a cacophonous yet hauntingly poetic call-to-arms.

Book Week Scotland TBR
Book Week is this month and I thought I’d throw together a TBR to mark the occasion. These are all Scottish books – by Scottish authors, or relating to Scotland. I’ve chosen to make a list of seven books but I don’t expect to get through them all. Though it sure is tempting to try. You can read about Book Week here. And you can find the events here. A Gift of the Sea (Tales of Seann Àite #3) by…

soap who runs a podcast wherein he’ll explain and discuss complex science processes in a way that doesn’t make learners feel dumb or left out, but also is engaging for more advanced and knowledgeable listeners who are familiar with concepts.
he’ll often have guests, usually fellow science people who maybe have more expertise than him on certain topics, but sometimes he’ll just bring in others to have a better perspective on questions and details someone less science-y might want to know.
one day, a guest has to pull out last minute, so soap asks his boyfriend ghost if he’d like to try out an episode—if he doesn’t like it, soap can just re-record and post something else no problem. but ghost agrees—by osmosis of just being around soap for so long he’s pretty knowledgeable in the realm of science himself, and, really, it’d be a wasted opportunity to hear his boyfriend rant about something he loves for an hour.
everything goes well—episode goes up, and… people are already demanding ghost to return. his deep, rough voice combined with being relatively evenly matched with soap in terms of that day’s concept made for a great listen—though, perhaps the fact that they have great chemistry as a cause of their relationship also plays a part in the episode’s positive reception.
so ghost becomes a semi-regular. he’d hate to impede on soap’s thing entirely, but he doesn’t mind returning every once in a while whenever soap plans on talking about something ghost is familiar enough with. there just seems to be an extra ounce of passion from soap whenever it’s ghost as a guest, though no one’s aware it’s because they’re dating.
